In this episode, Nicholas Bailey joins me to talk about the role testosterone plays in men, why we re experiencing a decline in testosterone levels, the effect of low testosterone, and how to safely and naturally boost your testosterone levels.
00:00:00.000I get a lot of requests and a lot of questions about the importance of healthy levels of testosterone in men.
00:00:05.580Unfortunately, we are beginning to see the studies that show testosterone levels among men are at an all-time low and show no signs of improving anytime soon.
00:00:15.140My guest today, Nicholas Bayerly, joins me to talk about the role testosterone plays in men, why we're experiencing a decline in testosterone levels,
00:00:22.920the effect of low testosterone, and how to safely and naturally boost your testosterone levels.
00:00:27.740You're a man of action. You live life to the fullest. Embrace your fears and boldly chart your own path.
00:00:33.820When life knocks you down, you get back up one more time, every time.
00:00:38.280You are not easily deterred or defeated, rugged, resilient, strong.
00:00:43.320This is your life. This is who you are. This is who you will become.
00:00:47.560At the end of the day, and after all is said and done, you can call yourself a man.
00:00:52.500Guys, what is going on today? My name is Ryan Michler, and I am the host and the founder of the Order of Man podcast.
00:00:59.400This is the go-to show for men looking to and working on becoming better men.
00:01:04.280So each and every week, we interview the world's most successful men, guys like Tim Kennedy, Grant Cardone, Jocko Willink, Andy Priscilla, so many more.
00:01:12.060What we do is we talk with them, we extract their hard-learned lessons, and then we bring them straight to you.
00:01:17.680So you are in the right place if you're looking at becoming a better man.
00:01:20.560Three steps that I want you to know about and you need to take if you like what you hear today or any other show that you may have listened to in the past.
00:01:27.960First, if you would, I don't ask for this a whole lot, but it does help us.
00:01:34.180This, again, helps us get the word out to more men, and you and I both know that the world needs more men to step fully into their roles as men.
00:01:42.440Second, guys, make sure you join 25,000 other men.
00:01:47.980We're having some serious, some seriously incredible conversations about masculinity, including this discussion today, and you can do that inside of our Facebook group at facebook.com slash groups slash order of men.
00:01:59.500And third, before we get to the show today, if you are looking for something more than what we offer in just this show, some more conversations, if you're looking to immerse yourself even in a program that's going to help you build the life that you want as a man, I want you to consider joining our mastermind, The Iron Council.
00:02:17.580This is such an incredible group, such an incredible brotherhood of men with great accountability to help you get to where you want to be.
00:02:25.300I'm going to talk with you more about that during the break, but for now, if you're interested, you can find out more about that at orderofmen.com slash ironcouncil.
00:02:32.960Guys, I have got a great one lined up for you today on a topic that, again, I get a lot of questions about, and that is testosterone and testosterone levels.
00:02:41.240Guys, I'm not an expert on the subject, so I connected with Nicholas Bailey about the subject, and I knew right away that this would be the guy to share some insights with you.
00:02:49.280I am naturally a bit skeptical, like some of you, and especially when it comes to hormones and the body and some of these levels that we're going to be talking about today, but the thing that I really liked about Nicholas was his natural, his no-nonsense approach to increasing testosterone levels and living a healthy life.
00:03:07.780He is the founder of The Billion Dollar Body, but he's focused on more than just building a better body.
00:03:13.540He's focused on utilizing the right mindset, and mindset is something we talk about all the time on the show.
00:03:19.360He uses this as the foundation for growth in your life, including the subject, again, that we're going to talk about today, boosting your testosterone levels.
00:03:28.860Nicholas, what's up, brother? Thanks for joining me on the show today.
00:03:31.220Hey, Ryan. Thanks so much for having me on, man. I'm so glad to be able to connect.
00:03:34.500Finally, we're on the microphone together.
00:03:36.540I know. I know. We've talked multiple times, and like you said, finally being able to connect, it's a good thing.
00:03:42.020Tell me what the role of testosterone is in the lives of men.
00:03:47.200This is the conversation I want to have with you today, and I figured this would be the best place to start.
00:03:51.140Yeah, so it's the dominant male hormone.
00:03:53.300So women have estrogen as a dominant woman hormone.
00:03:56.460Men have testosterone, and I've noticed over the last 100 years that men's testosterone has gone from a significant high 100 years ago to now the high of today is the low of 100 years ago.
00:04:08.220I've seen how that's affected society and how the foods that we eat, the things that we put on our skin, all these things really affects how men think, the action that they take, the body fat that they have, the muscle that they have.
00:04:21.520And overall, just being a man is a lot easier with higher testosterone that we've seen from the hundreds of clients that we've worked with.
00:04:27.980So it's a great male hormone, and you definitely want it as a man.
00:04:31.680So what makes it the hormone that makes it easier to be a quote-unquote man like you talk about?
00:05:01.360So a lot of the reasons like let's say self-consciousness, me, for example, I was 60 pounds overweight, had low testosterone because of my diet, the way that I was sleeping, the way that I was breathing.
00:05:11.560My mindset was raising my cortisol levels, which is just another cool word for your stress hormone.
00:05:17.640So the times that you're stressed, there's good stress, and then there's bad stress, and those all affect testosterone.
00:05:22.700So ultimately, if you do have significant either average levels or high levels of testosterone, what that's going to result in in your body is a lower body fat percentage, especially in the face.
00:05:33.380So fat in the face a lot of times is hormonal for men.
00:05:37.160Fat on the hips, fat on the stomach is also hormonal.
00:05:40.380Along with those feelings of depression, those days when you feel like, man, I just don't feel like I can go out there and take action.
00:05:46.800I don't feel as resilient as I normally am.
00:05:49.480And people think they have to fight through that.
00:05:52.140But then there's also ways that you can tweak that with the food that you're eating, the sleep that you're getting, the exercises that you're doing, all affect this hormone that we call testosterone.
00:06:00.760Yeah, I mean this is something I really haven't researched much or even studied much.
00:06:03.960I know from experience, like you, you said 60 pounds.
00:06:08.380And everything that you just described was exactly the way that I felt and the way that I looked.
00:06:14.180So through losing that weight, I imagined that I was able to get some of those testosterone levels in check relative to when I was 50 pounds heavier.
00:06:23.320And the way that you get your testosterone checked is to go to like a naturopathic doctor, you go to a regular doctor, and you can get your blood work done.
00:06:30.020You can check your micronutrient deficiencies, which will be your vitamins and minerals.
00:06:34.540And those are the building blocks for hormonal health.
00:06:38.000So that will be your testosterone, your cortisol, estrogen, things like that.
00:06:41.420So you'll be able to get those tests actually back instead of guessing and figure out, hey, where am I at?
00:06:46.840And then you just consult someone who knows what they're doing to figure out how to read those levels.
00:06:50.920Because to be honest, in this day and age, doctors will tell you you're good as long as you're one step away from dying.
00:07:17.760You know, I'm always a little bit of skeptic when it comes to some of this stuff, especially the way that I think testosterone information is presented.
00:07:24.900I guess the question I have, is it something that even needs to necessarily be regulated?
00:07:30.040Or is it just a matter of guys doing what they already know they should be doing, like eating healthy, exercising?
00:07:35.780And if they just do those things, 99% of the problems with low testosterone would be resolved.
00:07:41.520There's the things that they're doing and the way that they're thinking.
00:07:44.700But I love what you said there that should guys just be doing what they already know they should be doing?
00:07:50.540We've noticed that over the last five years of owning our company, that information is the cheapest thing.
00:07:56.460Everyone has two cents, but guess what?
00:08:00.020And they want to give you their two cents all the time, and that's why learning how to apply the information that you know in a way that gets you a result is where the magic happens.
00:08:10.760So, yeah, the men should just be doing what they already know they should be doing.
00:08:13.520As me and you know, we know something right now we could be doing to be healthier.
00:08:18.140It's just how do we actually do it all the time, have the accountability, have the surrounding, which is what you've created with the Order of Man.
00:08:24.040You have these men that are really keeping each other accountable.
00:08:26.400They know what to do, but they're having trouble doing it.
00:08:28.940So, it should be regulated to a point because just like if you're 200 pounds overweight, you need to be regulated and be more strict because you have more life on the line.
00:08:40.840But once you get to a place where you're in a healthy range, you're less worried about, oh, man, where's my body fat at today?
00:08:47.960Because you're not in that critical condition.
00:08:49.740So, it just depends on where you're at.
00:08:51.300But if you're feeling some of those symptoms of gaining weight even though you're feeling like you're doing everything you should be doing, and then on top of that, wanting freedom in the way because making a decision on what you eat, what supplements you're taking, the exercise you're doing, and knowing what results they're going to give you is where the power's at.
00:09:08.100It's not necessarily getting to the result that matters.
00:09:11.060It's that constant improvement every single day.
00:09:28.660But before we get into maybe that gap between what we know to be doing and what we're actually doing, tell me why we're seeing these all-time lows.
00:09:37.940Have things really changed that much, and what specifically has changed to produce these type of results in men?
00:09:44.540One story that comes to mind is there was this lake, and I don't know all the details.
00:09:52.880They started dumping all these chemicals into this lake where there was tons of fish.
00:09:57.200And they noticed over time with all the estrogenic properties in the chemicals or in the products that they were unleashing into this lake, it turned all the fish into women fish.
00:10:16.560But if you're also introducing it to toxins all the time that aren't helping it, we put deodorant under our arms right next to our lymph nodes that absorb right into our system.
00:10:34.820We're just increasing our estrogen production, decreasing our testosterone production, and that's giving us a different result.
00:10:41.500We can see it in the way that femininity is coming into men's lives with the way that they're thinking.
00:10:46.800And then that thinking partners with the way that they're doing life.
00:10:50.180So, ultimately, things have changed with the way that people are lifting, how we're not doing hard labor anymore.
00:10:55.060I don't know if you've read the book, No More Mr. Nice Guy, but he talks a lot about how when men started going away from the home and going to work, we got raised by our moms.
00:11:05.700And then we went to school, and we had a woman teacher.
00:11:08.220So, we learned how to become a man based on what women want men to be.
00:11:11.400And, ultimately, mindset is the third biggest piece to boosting testosterone, actually.
00:11:16.300If people don't know that, it goes for micronutrients, which is just your vitamins and minerals, macronutrients, which is just what your food's made of, protein, carbs, and fat.
00:11:24.200And then it's mindset before lifting, before supplementation because that's a big part.
00:11:28.900If you're around a male role model, you can boost your testosterone just from assuming a leadership role.
00:11:34.240So, if there's a problem that needs to be solved, boom, you solve it, it boosts your testosterone.
00:11:39.480If you watch your favorite sports team on TV, the reason men get so excited is because if they win, you boost your testosterone.
00:11:45.920That adrenaline goes up, your testosterone goes up.
00:11:48.380But if they lose, a lot of times it will actually drop your testosterone.
00:11:51.620So, testosterone is regulated every single day.
00:12:00.040So, even just the lack there of sleep and the high levels of stress in this day and age is what's really inhibiting that testosterone from being reproduced.
00:12:09.300And then also, they don't have enough in the day to actually go through it and use it, free testosterone.
00:12:15.880I imagine it's a pretty big piece because I think a lot comes from that mindset.
00:12:19.180But before that, before we get into that, I want to talk about the micronutrients that you talk about because barring not wearing any deodorant or rubbing beard oil in your beard, what's the alternative?
00:12:30.020I mean, are these things that we can even escape?
00:12:31.960And if so, how do you do that and what's the alternative to that?
00:12:35.240So, one's getting more natural products going back to the basics like beard oil.
00:12:39.720A lot of them are very natural, really good.
00:12:41.980Some of them might even help with your skin.
00:12:43.760So, instead of buying this frou-frou product that a lot of these guys don't even want to use, instead of using Old Spice, there's other products out there that you can use that, boom, are 100% natural and aren't giving you estrogenic properties.
00:12:55.960But from the micronutrient scale, which is vitamins and minerals, in America, we have the most mineral-deficient soil ever in the history of America.
00:13:05.760Minerals are found in the dirt, right?
00:13:07.660And then we farm and they go up into the food.
00:13:10.040Now, if we have no minerals in the dirt, then there's no minerals in the food and that tomato that you're looking at doesn't have nearly as much nutrients in it as it used to.
00:13:18.880So, a lot of times you have to supplement with ionic minerals, which is electrolytes is a good word for it, is a grouping of minerals.
00:13:26.580So, a lot of guys have been – have drank Gatorade in their past, but that's just a bad version of it.
00:13:31.840If you can get ionic minerals, that will be the building blocks.
00:13:34.800And just think of magnesium for a second.
00:13:43.400If you're deficient in magnesium that your body's not doing optimally, it might be doing them to survive.
00:13:49.100But again, all these men want to work optimally.
00:13:51.640They want to work at their highest potential.
00:13:53.080Their family needs them at 100%, not 60.
00:13:55.520Their business, their work doesn't need them at 60%, needs them at 100%.
00:13:59.400One way to get there is to supplement the minerals and then also making sure that you're getting a grouping of vitamins.
00:14:05.320And this is what we do for all of our men is we actually take them to our naturopathic doctor that's on our team and we get their blood work done just to see.
00:14:12.800That's if they're really not getting the results they want.
00:14:15.900But obviously, if they start eating a nutrient-rich diet and take away a lot of the chemicals that are in the house from the Febrezes and those little plug-in candles and all these stupid things that we have just introduced in our atmosphere without thinking about the repercussions, then all of a sudden, all those little things compounded over time end up giving them a big result.
00:23:33.660Yeah, I know when it comes to – you talk about beef, for example.
00:23:37.940We go in on a cow each year with my in-laws, and I know there's a huge difference in the quality, the taste, and even the way that I feel after eating a steak from a grass-fed cow versus something you'd buy at the store.
