You're a man of action. You live life to the fullest. Embrace your fears and boldly chart
00:00:05.000
your own path. When life knocks you down, you get back up one more time. Every time.
00:00:10.480
You are not easily deterred or defeated. Rugged. Resilient. Strong. This is your life. This is who
00:00:17.240
you are. This is who you will become. At the end of the day, and after all is said and done,
00:00:22.800
you can call yourself a man. Gentlemen, what is going on today? My name is Ryan Michler,
00:00:27.980
and I am the host and the founder of this podcast and the movement, The Order of Man.
00:00:31.860
And guys, it is a movement. We are spanning the entire planet. We're reaching millions and millions
00:00:37.280
of men now all across the planet in reclaiming and restoring what it means to be a man and what
00:00:42.800
masculinity is all about in a society that seems to be increasingly forgetting or confusing what
00:00:50.060
it means to be a man. So it's my job to share with you conversations and thoughts and ideas
00:00:55.440
about masculinity and manliness and how you can step up more fully as a father, husband,
00:01:00.000
business owner, community leader, coach, mentor, whatever facet of life you're showing up as.
00:01:06.000
I want to give you the tools and the conversations and the resources and everything that you need to,
00:01:09.780
again, step up more fully. So we do this podcast, the Friday Field Notes,
00:01:13.620
which is me just sharing some of my thoughts and ideas and things that have been bouncing around in
00:01:18.060
my brain. We do this every Friday, of course. And then we've got our interview show where I'm
00:01:21.780
interviewing guys like Jocko Willink and Grant Cardone and Andy Frisilla and Tim Kennedy and
00:01:28.040
David Goggins and TJ Dillashaw and any, any successful man that I can find that's got an
00:01:33.040
interesting story or insight or perspective to share with you. And then we do our, our Wednesday
00:01:37.880
show, which is an ask me anything show where I field questions from you guys along with my co-host
00:01:42.540
Kip Sorensen. And again, that comes out every Wednesday. So as you can see, if you're coming for
00:01:46.680
the first time, we've got a lot going on here with the order of man podcast, but we've also got our
00:01:50.700
Facebook groups and our exclusive brotherhood and everything else that we're doing. So I do want
00:01:55.640
to share with you just a few quick announcements that I want to get through really quickly before
00:01:59.880
we get into the meat of the discussion today, which is on the topic of bread and circuses,
00:02:03.580
which I'll explain here in a minute. And the announcements that I wanted to share with you
00:02:07.360
are two things that we have coming up over the next several months that you're going to want to
00:02:11.320
get on quickly because we're almost sold out and fully, fully loaded on these things.
00:02:15.540
The first one is our podcast course called podcast pro. I cannot even begin to tell you
00:02:21.220
how much podcasting has transformed my life from the way that I articulate myself to the
00:02:28.420
conversations that I'm having with incredible human beings to my levels of confidence, my
00:02:32.940
ability to rally other people around a cause that's important to me and them. It's just been
00:02:37.320
amazing. And what I want to do in the podcast course is peel back the layers, show you how I
00:02:41.600
connect with incredible guests. Like I mentioned earlier, uh, how to get into podcasting itself,
00:02:47.680
the right equipment that you'll need to use without breaking the bank, uh, how to have
00:02:51.360
conversations, what type of podcast you should start. So if you want to podcast professionally,
00:02:55.660
like I have been doing over the past four years, then podcast pro is the course and the information
00:03:02.100
that you want. Head to order of man.com slash podcast pro. You can learn more about it. We're
00:03:06.760
starting March 1st, March 1st, 2019. So just here in the next what week or so. So if you're
00:03:13.240
interested in that, get on that very, very quickly again, order of man.com slash podcast
00:03:17.020
pro. And the last announcement is our legacy event guys. This is a father son event. So
00:03:23.020
if you have a son or a neighborhood kid or a nephew or somebody that you're mentoring as
00:03:29.480
a father like figure, then I want you to join us April 11th through the 14th. Now I only
00:03:34.920
have three spots left for this April 11th through the 14th, you get to Las Vegas. We'll handle
00:03:40.040
the rest. Uh, we're going to do three and a half days of intensive exercises, physically,
00:03:46.420
mentally, emotionally that are all designed to test you guys in a way that maybe you haven't
00:03:50.800
been tested before and then help you with the tools and resources that you'll need to
00:03:55.080
usher your son into manhood. If you want to watch the video that we did last event, uh,
00:04:01.100
and get registered, learn more about what we're doing. Order of man.com slash legacy
00:04:05.100
order of man.com slash legacy. So that's it. We've got the podcast course, March 1st order
00:04:09.940
of man.com slash podcast pro. And then we've got our father son experience order of man.com
00:04:14.440
slash legacy. All right, guys wanted to share that with you real quick, but today I want
00:04:19.120
to talk with you about the idea of bread and circuses. Now, a lot of us have heard this
00:04:23.580
term. A lot of us have understood to some degree what this means. I think a lot of us have
00:04:28.480
probably experienced this, but at the end of the day, what I mean when I'm talking about
00:04:31.760
bread and circuses is I'm talking about the media. I'm talking about politicians. I'm talking
00:04:36.860
about any sort of outside figure and their ability to buy us off with bread and circuses.
00:04:43.400
The fact that I think a lot of us just want to be entertained so much so that we consume
00:04:48.760
the most trivial and ridiculousness of nonsense out there that we possibly can. And we jump to
00:04:56.380
conclusions and we make rash decisions and we get heated in conversations and debates
00:05:01.340
and arguments with people that we don't know on social media and we are being entertained
00:05:05.440
to death. We are being enslaved in a way and we don't even know what's happening because
00:05:11.220
we're being so distracted by the nonsense that's out there. And this nonsense could be some dude
00:05:17.820
who decides to stage an attack that he said was racially motivated. It could be about some washed
00:05:25.760
up football player and his decision to make a stand and the NFL deciding to pay him millions
00:05:32.760
and millions of dollars over this ridiculous thing, whatever that was all about. It could
00:05:36.900
be just being distracted by famous people who are famous for being famous, which is a really
00:05:43.080
weird thing to say. What man likes what man and what man likes what woman and what woman
00:05:48.620
likes what man and what man wants to be a woman and what woman wants to be a man. And we've
00:05:52.500
got all of this crazy nonsense out there and it's sad. And frankly, it's pathetic. It's
00:06:00.520
pathetic that we have become so consumed by this nonsense that has no relevancy in our
00:06:06.800
lives. That doesn't help us be better fathers. It doesn't help us be better husbands or business
00:06:11.940
owners or community leaders. It doesn't help us usher our kids into manhood. It doesn't or
00:06:16.820
or to help them learn what it means to be a woman. It doesn't help us improve our health.
00:06:22.160
It doesn't help us improve our career aspirations. It helps in no possible way. And yet we spend
00:06:28.520
hours upon hours upon hours every single day consuming ourselves with bullshit. And it's devastating.
00:06:37.960
It's devastating to our own well-being. It's devastating to our families and our communities
00:06:42.960
and the people that we as men are supposed to be serving. So today's message is a call
00:06:49.460
not to be distracted and fooled by the bread and circuses that those who would distract us
00:06:55.440
are trying to buy us off or bribe us with. It's a call to think about life a little bit more
00:07:02.180
critically, to dive a little deeper, to have more relevant conversations and engage with people in a
00:07:09.480
meaningful and significant way for ourselves and for the people that we are called to serve
00:07:13.780
in whatever capacity that looks like for you. Now, most of you have heard this term bread and
00:07:19.380
circuses to some degree. You've heard it been tossed around before, but I was doing a little bit of
00:07:24.380
research for this podcast and I came across some writings that I wanted to share with you because I
00:07:29.340
think even though most of us know the term bread and circuses, we don't know the context in which it
00:07:33.420
comes. It's actually from a man by the name of Juvenal. He wrote a series of lectures or articles,
00:07:41.580
whatever you want to call them, called satires. This one is satires 10 and in it he describes what he
00:07:48.140
means by bread and circuses or bread and games. I've heard it translated both ways, but he talks about
00:07:54.600
how politicians are buying votes using bread, food, bribes, and games, expensive, lavish games to
00:08:05.280
distract us from what's really going on. And then of course, to buy our votes. And that's what's
00:08:10.020
happening in modern times. Politicians, news outlets, media conglomerates, social media is using
00:08:17.380
these cheap entertainment tactics to buy our attention, to buy our votes, to buy our attention,
00:08:26.700
to buy our time. And then what are they doing with it? They're selling it. They're selling it to the
00:08:31.200
highest bidder so that they can then capitalize off our time and attention and energy. And what's sad
00:08:37.540
about this is that the better these organizations get at this, the more profitable they become,
00:08:43.440
the stronger, the more powerful they become at our expense, because we can't see through the cheap
00:08:49.200
circus tactics that they're employing against us. So I'm going to pull just a quick excerpt out of
00:08:53.940
these writings, satires 10 by Juvenal. And here's that excerpt. And what does the mob of Remus say?
00:09:02.100
It follows fortune as it always does and rails against the condemned. That same rabble, if Norsha had
00:09:08.720
smiled upon the Etruscan, if the aged emperor had been struck down unawares, would in that very hour
00:09:14.520
have conferred upon Sejanus, the title of Augustus. Now that no one buys our votes, the public has long
00:09:21.400
since cast off its cares and the people that once bestowed commands, consulships, legions, and all else
00:09:29.860
now medals no more and longs eagerly for just two things, bread and games. And again, I've heard it
00:09:38.600
translated as bread and circuses as well. I think that last sentence is so powerful and very, very
00:09:45.820
indicative of what we see in society today. Now I'm going to read it again. Now that no one buys our
00:09:51.700
votes, the public has long since cast off its cares. The people, us, the people that once bestowed
00:09:58.840
commands, consulships, legions, and all else now medals no more and longs eagerly for just two
00:10:06.580
things, bread and games. If that, which was written in, I believe 120 AD, if that does not perfectly
00:10:16.220
describe the environment in which we find ourselves with governments, with social media, with the media
00:10:22.140
outlets, I don't know what does. It's scary. It's a little freaky, quite honestly, that has been
00:10:31.000
described so well, roughly 2000 years ago. So as I rant and get on my soapbox and talk with you about
00:10:39.160
how damaging and discouraging it is to see how many good, honorable, well-intentioned, intelligent
00:10:46.260
men get sucked down this hole of bread and circuses. I want to talk with you about 10 strategies that we
00:10:54.280
can utilize in our lives, not to be sucked down this hole, to focus more deeply on the things that
00:10:58.940
matter, to actually be relevant, to, to focus on the relevant things in our lives and not be bought
00:11:04.080
off, not be bribed, not be sold and not focus on things that don't actually matter. So let's break
00:11:09.760
this down, jumping right into them. Number one, learn to curate your content, whether that's on social
00:11:14.920
media, whether that's the books you read or the videos you consume, or the music that you listen
00:11:18.680
to, the more that you curate your content, the better off you're going to be. If you're putting
00:11:23.660
nonsense and trivial garbage and filth into your mind, it's inevitable that what's going to be
00:11:30.300
produced, the outcome of the filth that's going into your brain is, is going to be the thing that's
00:11:35.420
manifest. It's going to be the thing that yields is because you're putting in garbage. You're going to
00:11:39.920
yield garbage. So guys, we have social media. I'm not suggesting that you do away with it.
00:11:44.440
I'm not suggesting that you even be ignorant or that you ignore what's actually going on.
00:11:48.440
I'm just saying, curate your content. All right. If it's negative or if it's damaging or if it's
00:11:54.740
not real, or if it's quote unquote fake news, or if it's outlandish or outrageous, scrap it from your
00:12:01.200
life. All right. You don't, you don't need that stuff in your life. What you need is positivity.
00:12:06.100
What you need is relevance. What you need is things that are uplifting. What you need is things that are
00:12:10.300
real, things that actually matter, things that have relevancy in your direct life, things that
00:12:16.520
will impact you and your community and your family, things that are important. And we have an ability
00:12:21.380
to use social media to curate this stuff. Most of us just use social media and magazines and articles
00:12:27.400
and books and podcasts and everything else that you happen to consume by default. Just however,
00:12:32.300
the founders wanted us to use their product. I'm telling you to be more intentional,
00:12:37.780
more deliberate about it and curate what's coming into your feed and what isn't coming into your
00:12:41.740
feed. That's number one. Number two, maybe even consider unplugging altogether, not indefinitely,
00:12:47.360
not forever, not with everything. But if you notice yourself getting sucked down the rabbit hole in
00:12:53.060
some particular platform or some particular conversation or some YouTube channel or some
00:12:58.020
news station, just unplug, just unplug, get yourself out of that environment, get yourself out of that
00:13:04.780
situation and get yourself into a situation that you can control, that you can manage,
00:13:10.800
that you actually care about. And that is relevant again in your life. Number two, unplug. Number three,
00:13:16.440
prioritize and execute. Prioritize and execute. Not everything that comes into your life is worth
00:13:24.140
your attention. So if you're getting some sort of update about some thing that we're supposed to be
00:13:33.300
outraged, that some organization tells us that we're supposed to be outraged about today, and that
00:13:38.460
isn't relevant in your life, don't pay it more attention than it deserves. The more that you talk
00:13:42.780
about this nonsense, the more that you lend credibility to the nonsense. Just prioritize and
00:13:48.880
execute. This is important. Bump it up the list, spend more time and attention on it. This isn't important.
00:13:54.460
Bump it down the list and spend less time and attention. Don't talk about it. Don't dwell on it.
00:13:59.480
Don't debate it. Don't argue. Don't have conversations about nonsense. Just put it towards
00:14:05.240
the bottom of the priority. Don't even get to it because you've got so many other things that are
00:14:10.140
worth your time and attention, your family, your wife, your kids, your career, your health, your
00:14:14.560
fitness, so many other things that are more relevant, more important than all of the craziness that other
00:14:22.220
people would have us listen to. And make no mistake, these organizations are capitalizing on that.
00:14:28.320
I said that before. They are capitalizing on your finite resources, time and attention. Those are
00:14:34.160
the most valuable assets you have. And yet we subconsciously and involuntarily give away these
00:14:41.060
things so willingly to some other organization. It's absurd. So number three, prioritize and execute.
00:14:46.820
Number four, wait 48 hours on news. All right. If we get some news and it seems crazy and it seems
00:14:53.420
outlandish and it seems too good to be true. And it's too wild. It's likely that it is.
00:14:59.160
It's likely that it is. If it's news in 48 hours, then maybe it's a little bit more relevant.
00:15:06.120
Maybe it's something that you should pay attention to. And of course, there's going to be things that
00:15:09.560
come up. Maybe it's a natural disaster or some sort of warning that we need to be aware of that.
00:15:14.520
Yes, we should be aware of that now, but if it's outrageous and outlandish guys,
00:15:19.260
don't get sucked into it. Don't rush to conclusions. We saw this with this staged attack
00:15:26.320
that I was talking about earlier. Uh, we saw this with a bunch of high school kids and a native
00:15:33.000
American Indian who were arguing, but they weren't arguing and they were being racist, but they weren't
00:15:38.260
being racist. And nobody actually knew what was going on because people jumped to conclusions and
00:15:43.520
they're trying to buy your attention with outlandish claims that may or may not be true.
00:15:47.720
This is the crazy stuff I'm talking about. Just wait, just wait. If it's relevant,
00:15:53.040
it will still be relevant in 24 to 48 hours. So just wait a couple of days and then address it.
00:15:58.640
Then number five is here, both sides of an argument. We get stuck in these echo chambers. I do too.
00:16:06.420
And you might even consider order a man at times an echo chamber, because we attract very similar
00:16:11.500
people, very similar men who think the same way we do and have the same ideas and thoughts that
00:16:16.120
makes sense. But what I do suggest that you do is look for both sides of the story. We don't need to
00:16:21.320
be conservative Republican or liberal and Democrat. Uh, we could be somewhere in the middle. We could
00:16:27.440
sit on both sides at times or one side or the other, depending on the issue. These are the things
00:16:31.560
that are, are meant to polarize us. The more that we are odds with each other, the more that we can be
00:16:37.640
manipulated and coerced and distracted from real issues because we're always down each other's
00:16:42.520
necks. We're at each other's throats over nothing. So try to hear both sides, be open and understanding.
00:16:48.320
And even if you hear both sides, I'm not suggesting that you pick another side. I'm suggesting that you
00:16:52.800
hear another side, and then you can make more realistic, relevant decisions based on how you
00:16:58.060
should live your life with more perspective, with new information at hand that you haven't
00:17:03.120
previously considered. So here are both sides, try to understand both sides, and then you can
00:17:08.660
make a decision moving forward. Uh, number six, don't argue with idiots. Now I've been doing this
00:17:15.740
podcast and order of man for four years, and I'll admit that even now I still fall prey to this at
00:17:22.620
times. For the most part, I'm pretty good about this at this point, cause I've set up some rules
00:17:26.440
and I'll talk about that here in a minute, but I don't argue with idiots. Will I argue and debate
00:17:33.100
with somebody who doesn't agree with me? As long as there's a clear motive and intention,
00:17:36.040
and we're coming from the same place that we want to have a civil discussion about this.
00:17:39.680
Yeah, I will engage in a debate, but I won't argue with idiots. There's a great Proverbs. It's a
00:17:44.540
Proverbs 26, four. It says, answer, not a fool, according to his folly, lest thou also be like
00:17:51.680
unto him. Let me read that again. Cause that one hit me deep. Answer, not a fool, according to his
00:17:58.520
folly, lest thou also be like unto him. In other words, if you argue with an idiot, you too are an
00:18:07.300
idiot. So just disengage. Not everything needs to be debated. You don't need to get into arguments.
00:18:12.680
You're not going to convince some people. And even if you do convince somebody, so what,
00:18:17.460
what is the point? Focus on what you can control, which is the people in your circle. And don't worry
00:18:23.280
about the rest. There's going to be idiots out there. You don't need to debate and engage with these
00:18:26.720
people, which leads me to my next point. Number seven, pick your battles. Not everything has to
00:18:32.980
be your battle. There's going to be certain things that aren't relevant to you. You don't want to go
00:18:37.460
out as my friend Rourke Denver says, and die on a hill that you're not interested in dying on.
00:18:43.520
And yet when you engage in these debates and you get sucked down the rabbit hole of outlandish,
00:18:49.240
outrageous claims and conversations and headlines, that's exactly what you're doing. You're saying that
00:18:55.100
this is a cause worth fighting for. And yet, if you took back a step back and objectively looked
00:19:01.260
at it, you would realize very quickly that this is not, in fact, an argument worth fighting for,
00:19:06.500
worth dying for, a battle worth engaging in, that it's just something stupid and you momentarily got
00:19:12.300
caught up in it. So if you're spending time, for example, as I am on this podcast, talking about
00:19:18.980
bread and circuses, then you've said that this is a battle worth fighting. And for me, it is.
00:19:22.820
If you're debating whether people should love each other or sexual orientation or who you should be
00:19:32.140
outraged by or race claims or anything else, and you're debating and arguing about that, you have
00:19:38.020
said either consciously or subconsciously that this matters to you, that it's a battle worth fighting
00:19:43.420
for. And if it is good, fine. As long as you're deliberate and intentional about it, but don't get
00:19:48.380
sucked into battles that you aren't interested in fighting or engaging in number eight, try to
00:19:54.780
understand others motives. If you can understand people's motives, understand other organizations,
00:20:02.180
motives, then you give yourself the, the framework or the perspective to understand what it is they're
00:20:08.880
trying to do. Are they trying to have a real conversation with you or are they trying to rally,
00:20:13.420
rile you up? And if they're trying to rile you up, why is it that they're trying to rile you up?
00:20:16.880
Let's take the media. For example, is it in the media's interest to give you unbiased,
00:20:22.600
real information? The answer is certainly no, that's not necessarily in their best interest.
00:20:29.940
What is in their best interest? Because if you think about how they're paid through advertisers
00:20:34.740
is to get as many eyeballs for as long as possible onto their platform. And if they can be outrageous
00:20:42.780
and they can be wild and they can be crazy and they can pit people against each other,
00:20:47.500
they're going to get your attention and energy and eyeballs on their stories, on their websites,
00:20:52.980
on their podcasts, on this, on that, on their platforms longer, which means that their ads
00:20:58.740
can be sold for more. That's it guys. They're selling your outrage. Understand that when you're
00:21:05.800
outraged about something, they're selling it, literally selling your outrage for a dollar amount
00:21:13.740
for a profit. And they're benefiting because you aren't in control of yourself enough to realize
00:21:19.920
what's going on and then actually acting accordingly. So try to understand what is it, the motive
00:21:26.800
or what is the motive I should say of those organizations or people or politicians or media outlets
00:21:34.380
or social media channels? What is their motive? Uh, number nine, keep your eye on the prize guys.
00:21:39.800
We, we have this weird thing in society and look, I'm, I'm saying these things, these 10 items to
00:21:45.540
myself, just as much as I'm saying to you, but we have this weird thing where we are distracted by
00:21:50.680
the bright and shiny object, right? The newest social media profile, the newest story, the newest
00:21:56.420
headline, the newest tabloid. It comes out and we are just enthralled by it. We want to know about it.
00:22:03.480
We want to know everything about it. You, you go to the grocery store, for example, and you look on
00:22:07.320
the rack as you're checking out and you see all these crazy magazines with these outrageous
00:22:11.460
headlines. You're like, I got to know about, uh, John Travolta. And I got to know about the Royal
00:22:16.720
family. And I have to know about how this person was offended and what this other person was upset
00:22:21.560
about. I got to know, I got to go to know, you don't need to know because none of that has any
00:22:26.000
relevancy towards you losing weight or you salvaging your marriage or you reconnecting with your
00:22:31.100
children or you advancing in your career or all of the other things that I hear from you guys
00:22:35.260
on a daily basis. When you tell me what it is you want to accomplish. And yet you say those things
00:22:40.420
and then the very next breath or the very next minute, you're giving your attention to some trivial
00:22:45.000
nonsense that doesn't matter or move you towards the prize that you're after. Ask yourself is what
00:22:51.260
I'm consuming right now, including this podcast is what I'm consuming right now, moving me in the
00:22:57.940
direction of the things that I want. Is this podcast giving me what I want? Is that magazine
00:23:04.680
giving me what I want? Is me tuning into CNN or Fox or MSN or whatever, giving me what I want?
00:23:13.720
Is it helping me be a better man, a better father, a better husband, a better business owner,
00:23:17.480
community leader, coach, mentor, whatever facet of life you're showing up as is that information
00:23:22.680
helping you get there? If the answer is yes, by all means, read that book, watch that show,
00:23:28.560
listen to that magazine, consume that podcast. If the answer is no, tune it out. It's not moving
00:23:34.200
in the right direction. And number 10, educate yourselves, educate yourselves. I think that these
00:23:41.160
social media outlets, these big media conglomerates, they pray off the ignorant. They pray off of
00:23:47.400
people who don't know any better. They're too dumb or ignorant to actually consider that what
00:23:54.340
they're learning is not real. It's not accurate. It's not truthful. It's not relevant in their life.
00:24:00.680
So the more that you can educate yourself by tuning into information that is relevant,
00:24:04.540
hopefully this podcast falls in line. Hopefully some of the books that I recommended fall online.
00:24:09.360
Maybe there's other podcasts that you're listening to and books and social media channels and people
00:24:14.020
that you're following or engaged with. Maybe, maybe you're in some sort of formal education,
00:24:18.200
but you're learning things that apply to you that are going to help you achieve what you want to
00:24:23.320
achieve in your life. The less educated you are, the more, and I'm not talking necessarily about
00:24:29.720
formal education, but the less educated you are, the more likely I believe it is that you're going to
00:24:34.600
fall into these traps. If you're poor and ignorant and broke and not intelligent about these things and
00:24:40.320
don't really understand the ramifications of what you're learning, you're more likely to consume that
00:24:44.020
and potentially even maybe you like consuming it because it's distracting you from your own
00:24:48.340
inadequacy. And when I say that, I know that people are going to hear that and think,
00:24:52.440
Oh, Ryan's being too mean or he's being too harsh and this and that. Maybe, maybe I am,
00:24:57.320
but it's also the truth. It's the truth that these people and organizations are preying upon you.
00:25:03.860
If you're weak and unintelligent or uneducated or ignorant, don't be that you have a choice.
00:25:12.660
You don't have to remain in that state. You have an opportunity to learn, to educate yourself
00:25:17.380
and to gain some understanding about the topics and the things that have been being thrown around.
00:25:23.660
So that's it guys. I was a pretty quick one, but man, bread and circuses, this needed to be talked
00:25:29.260
about. It's just, it's absolutely ridiculous. What I see in society and what we're supposed to quote,
00:25:33.820
I should say, quote unquote, supposed to be outraged about. I don't need to be outraged about
00:25:37.620
anything. I don't feel like being outraged about. And I'm not going to have some organization
00:25:41.020
or media or social media company. Tell me that this is the thing to be upset about this week.
00:25:45.940
This is the thing that all of us are going to pick on today. Let me read this last quote again from
00:25:50.580
a satires 10. Now that no one buys our votes, the public has long since cast off its cares.
00:25:56.860
The people that once bestowed commands, consulships, legions, and all else now medals,
00:26:03.720
no more and longs eagerly for just two things, bread and games. So that's what I've got for you
00:26:11.100
today, guys. I hope that helps. Let me go through these really quickly again. Write these down. If
00:26:15.020
you need to share this podcast too, if you notice somebody who just gets consumed and sucked into
00:26:20.440
this nonsense, then share this podcast with them. Number one, curate your content. You can,
00:26:25.820
all right. You don't have to, your feed doesn't have to be by default. You actually get to be active
00:26:30.260
and how you manage your feed on some of these things. Uh, number two, unplug altogether. Just
00:26:34.480
unplug, just unplug. You don't need to be plugged in that thing. You're not going to miss out on much
00:26:38.320
unplug. Uh, number three, prioritize and execute because not everything is worth your time and
00:26:43.140
attention. Number four, wait 40 hours on news. Number five, hear both sides of an argument before
00:26:49.640
you decide to stick your nose or neck in the argument. Uh, number six, don't argue with idiots.
00:26:55.180
I gave you the proverbs, which is a answer. Not a fool. According to his folly,
00:26:59.160
lest thou also be like unto him. Number seven, pick your battles. Number eight,
00:27:04.160
understand the motives and intentions of others. Number nine, keep your eye on the prize. And number
00:27:08.600
10, educate yourselves guys. We can do better. We've got to do better. If we want to be meaningful,
00:27:14.960
if we want to be significant, whether that's doing a podcast like this or meaningful in the walls of our
00:27:20.280
home or within the walls of, of the businesses that we're running or a part of, then we've got to
00:27:24.860
stop getting caught in this nonsense, this shallow discussion, the things that those who would pray
00:27:31.560
upon us would love us to be outraged about the things that they want us to fight and bicker about
00:27:36.380
and bitch and moan and complain about. We've got to do better. We've got to go deeper. We've got to
00:27:41.280
educate ourselves. We've got to be smart. We've got to be rational. We've got to be stoic, even though
00:27:46.520
we're told not to be stoic either. These are the things that are important. These are the things that
00:27:50.840
are going to help you thrive as a man. They're the things that are going to help you connect with
00:27:54.720
kids, re-engage your wife, lose weight, grow the business, start the business, ask for the
00:28:00.060
promotion and do all of the things that I know you want to accomplish in your lives. Because I hear
00:28:04.020
from you guys every day telling me what you want to accomplish. Don't be the one who says, I want to
00:28:08.700
accomplish X, Y, and Z. But all the while you're being distracted and manipulated and tricked and
00:28:14.660
fueled into giving more of your time and attention to things that don't matter. Don't be bought off
00:28:21.700
by the bread and the circuses. Focus on what matters. Go deep on issues that are important to
00:28:28.700
you. Pick the right battles. Focus on the right things. Get out there, take action, and be the man
00:28:35.280
you are meant to be. Thank you for listening to the Order of Man podcast. If you're ready to take charge
00:28:41.320
of your life and be more of the man you were meant to be, we invite you to join the Order at
