good friends I've known for years and years. And, uh, it's always good to be surrounded by
00:01:03.640
the brotherhood and the camaraderie and the accountability and the Jack and John, everything
00:01:07.680
else that goes on at hunt camp. So I got back late last night, but I wanted to make sure that I got you
00:01:13.100

00:01:20.200
six and a half years. So I'm not going to miss one just because I got back late and I'm tired, but I do
00:01:26.140
have a quick message for you today. Some of the things that I've been thinking about as I got back
00:01:30.200
home and I was driving into Portland, Maine, and then driving up, uh, about an hour and a half, two
00:01:36.020
hours North from Portland where I live, uh, how incredible it is to live here in the state. So I wanted
00:01:41.720
to talk with you about why we made this transition in this move here, uh, and then help you shift maybe
00:01:47.000
your mindset from the concept of, uh, what if I think a lot of guys have this, what if mindset,
00:01:54.160
like, Oh, what if I did this? What if I did that? Wouldn't it be nice? Dot, dot, dot, uh, to let's
00:02:00.180
find out the let's find out mentality. So I'm going to explain that in a minute. Uh, before I do, let me
00:02:05.800

00:03:12.600
All right, guys, let's talk about this mentality shift. So in June, June, July, somewhere right in
00:03:22.400
there of 2019, uh, my wife and I had made the decision over thinking about it for months and
00:03:30.020
months and months about moving from Southern Utah to Maine. And in June, July of 2019, we decided to
00:03:37.080
pull the trigger and we moved our family out here. And when I say our family, I'm talking about my
00:03:40.940
wife, myself, and then our four children and our, our two dogs. Uh, we moved ourselves out here and
00:03:46.720
guys, I fully at the time anticipated and expected that we would live out here for two or three or four
00:03:53.280
years tops. Uh, and then moved back to Utah with some cool experiences with, uh, an opportunity to get
00:04:01.980
closer to each other. Uh, but I am amazed at how quickly Maine became home for us. Uh, I love it. You
00:04:11.160
know, my wife loves it here. My children love it here. And we've had an incredible time. We've gotten
00:04:15.860
closer together. Uh, we've taken some risks and gone on some adventures and we've done some amazing
00:04:21.640
things. And it got me thinking as I drove home last night from being out of state for about a week,
00:04:27.040
what other opportunities I've missed, what other chances that, you know, I could have taken,
00:04:34.720
but I let fear dictate that. Or, um, I let my, my rationality, maybe even being overly rational at
00:04:43.220
times, uh, keep myself from doing these big things. You know, I've talked with so many people who have
00:04:48.280
said to me, Ryan, you know, I w I wish I could move. I wish I could do that. I wish I could,
00:04:52.220
uh, leave and go to this other place. And, but usually what they say when they, when they say
00:04:58.440
that is, well, you know, but I've got responsibilities, I've got obligations, I've got
00:05:02.040
friends, I've got this, I've got that. Well, dude, I had that same stuff. You know, I had a job
00:05:07.060
at obligations. I had responsibilities. I had to pull my kids from school. Uh, we had to find
00:05:13.240
renters for our home. Uh, we had to leave friends. Like we had to do all that stuff too.
00:05:18.280
You aren't the only one who has those things. And if you think you are, then, uh, that's just a
00:05:22.800
little bit of a little bit of arrogance, believing that, you know, your situation is different guys.
00:05:27.720
Your situation is no different than mine. There might be nuances to our situation, but generally
00:05:31.760
speaking, we're all the same. You know, we all have obligations and responsibilities, but you know
00:05:36.840
what? I decided to make this shift years ago from this, what if mentality and how many of you
00:05:41.700
have said, what if, you know, what if I chased that job? What if I went on that adventure? What
00:05:47.280
if I went on that hunt? What if I tried this new hobby or this interest or activity? And then it's
00:05:52.820
immediately met with, well, I have this and I have that, and I have a job and I have responsibilities
00:05:58.660
and I have bills. And what about my kids? And what if this, and what if that I'm telling you right
00:06:05.340
now, just based on my last couple of years of experience and shifting from that, what if
00:06:09.380
mentality to the let's find out mentality, guys, life is short. I was walking around the field
00:06:16.220
with my son. Uh, this was last year. And I vividly remember this as walking with him. And it was so,
00:06:22.360
it was so real at the time. And I just thought, you know, at 39 years old last year, 40 years old
00:06:28.200
this year, uh, I'm getting older and time is going faster. And I, I'm, if I lived a life expectancy,
00:06:37.300
I'm halfway through my life, maybe, maybe even a little bit more than halfway through my life at
00:06:41.880
this point. And I'll be damned. If I'm going to spend my life, the rest of my life thinking about
00:06:48.020
what had could have been, what opportunities could have presented themselves, what, what,
00:06:52.860
what incredible things could have taken place. Had I only taken a shot. And I got thinking about this
00:06:59.140
a little bit too, on our hunt, you know, we, we hunt with a bunch of guys and I've been hunting
00:07:02.820
there at this place in Minnesota for the past four years. And there's shots that I've taken that I've
00:07:08.920
missed. Uh, there's shots that I think I should have looking back taken that I didn't. And this,
00:07:16.540
what if scenario plays in my mind and it's, it's horrible. I hate it. I despise it. I don't want to
00:07:25.240
know. What if I don't want to think about what if, what I want to know is let's find out,
00:07:32.820
let's throw all the chips on the table. Let's take a rip and let's actually find out if moving
00:07:39.560
across the country or taking that new job or asking that woman on a date or doing any number
00:07:45.180
of things that you guys think about on a daily basis, let's find out if it's going to play out
00:07:49.680
guys, you aren't performing brain surgery. You know, if you decide to move across the country,
00:07:54.740
because you have the inclination to do so and your wife's on board and, and you can make it work.
00:07:59.680
Like, why wouldn't you find out what's the worst that can happen? You're miserable for a couple
00:08:05.060
of years. You decide you don't like it. And so you move back. Damn. That's worst case scenario.
00:08:12.880
And some of you guys are playing so small in life and you're playing not to lose that you
00:08:18.400
aren't willing to throw it all on the table and let it ride. And you know, what is the upside of doing
00:08:23.120
that? That you create meaning and significance in your life, that you develop deeper and closer
00:08:29.260
relationships with your family, that you gain new friends, that you have new experiences that you
00:08:35.740
learn more than you ever could have in your stagnant, stale state. That's the upside. And the downside is
00:08:41.400
you don't like it. And so you move home guys. Look, this is look, I'm not going to say it this way,
00:08:47.700
but well, I will say it this way. And so it's a cost benefit analysis.
00:08:55.120
And I'm actually talking kind of about emotion right now, but if you want to just take the
00:08:59.120
emotional side of things and say, let's look at the cost benefit analysis, you know, the cost,
00:09:03.680
the downside risk of uprooting your family and moving across the country is relatively low in the
00:09:10.340
grand scheme of things. It is, you're going to be out, you know, some money, some time,
00:09:16.280
some, some headaches, some heartache, maybe, but what's the upside potential, man, unlimited.
00:09:27.100
What new experiences are you going to have? What new friendships are you going to develop?
00:09:31.000
What new hobbies and skillsets are you going to learn? It's incalculable. And all you guys are
00:09:38.240
playing it safe thinking, well, you know, I have an obligation and I have a family and I have
00:09:42.900
responsibilities and I have this and I have that. Dude, do you know how many people are hiring across
00:09:47.500
this country? You know, some of you are really worried about a job. You could go get a job this
00:09:52.980
afternoon if you needed to. There's what, eight to 10 million jobs open right now. And you're like,
00:09:59.160
well, what if I can't find a job? Instead of that, what, think about this. What if you live your life
00:10:06.140
in mediocrity? And then you're sitting there on your deathbed and you're about to die.
00:10:10.160
And what are you thinking about? Not all the things that you did, but all the things that you
00:10:13.760
wish you could have done. And all you guys are scared and afraid, just like everybody, just like
00:10:20.500
me, man, I had reservations. I remember the first week we moved here. I was like, I remember vividly
00:10:25.860
my wife and I were walking in that main field of ours and we were talking and I said, hon,
00:10:32.400
did we make the right decision? And she said, I don't know. She was just as nervous, just as scared,
00:10:38.200
but we didn't retreat. We didn't withdraw. We didn't hide and cower in fear. We doubled down
00:10:45.480
and we decided to embed ourselves in the community. And we decided to meet people. We decided to go to
00:10:54.540
church. We decided to get involved in activities. We decided to go to the gym. We decided to get our
00:11:00.020
kids involved in sports. We decided to learn new hobbies and skills and things that weren't
00:11:04.760
available to us before. And you know how quickly that doubt and hesitation and fear dissipated
00:11:12.520
almost instantaneously because we didn't let that bullshit get in the way of us going out and doing
00:11:19.840
something great with our lives. And some of you guys are playing in mediocrity. You're complacent.
00:11:24.980
You're conforming. You're mediocre. You're average. You know, you're destined for more.
00:11:31.080
How many of you feel that way? Honestly, answer that question because I've had countless conversations
00:11:36.920
with family members and friends about being destined for more. Well, destiny only comes to
00:11:42.880
those who are willing to act upon it. Nothing's going to happen to you. You have to go act upon the world.
00:11:49.540
You have to assert yourself. You have to stake your claim. I mean, imagine that for a second.
00:11:56.240
Your pioneer ancestors literally traveled from the East Coast to the West Coast. And they said,
00:12:01.980
I'm going to stake my claim right here. And they put a stake or a rock in the ground.
00:12:06.720
And then they went and chopped down trees. And then they built a cabin. And then they brought in
00:12:11.820
livestock. And then they planted a seed that turned into a garden to feed their family.
00:12:17.040
And they enlisted other people, community members to come in. And they built cities.
00:12:23.300
They built communities first, which turned into towns, which turned into cities,
00:12:27.260
which turned into what you see in this country. And those people have balls. Do you?
00:12:34.100
Do you have the balls to do it? Or is it, I'm nervous. I'm afraid. I'm scared.
00:12:43.120
What if things happen? Yeah, things will happen. Good things and some negative things that you learn
00:12:51.080
from and grow from and become better. I'm so tired of the mediocrity and the conformity and the
00:12:59.940
complacency and the loser bullshit that so many men who are following quote unquote order of man
00:13:06.500
are ascribing to. Are you a man? What did your ancestors do? They left the safety and the warmth
00:13:16.840
of the cave and they went out to kill the woolly mammoth, the saber tooth tiger, because that was
00:13:22.480
their job and the responsibility. And every day they went out, they risked death, literal death.
00:13:28.500
All I'm asking you to do is to go to the gym tonight, to pursue jujitsu, to make a move across
00:13:38.200
the country, to drive your nice brand new vehicle that has climate control in it. We'll get you
00:13:45.760
somewhere in four hours, what it took maybe 40 days to do 150 years ago. And you're telling me it's
00:13:53.960
hard. It's not hard guys. Hard is relative. You've made it too easy on yourself. And now you're playing
00:14:02.100
not to lose, right? You're ahead on the scoreboard, seven points, 14 points. And you think, man,
00:14:09.120
I just got to maintain this lead. And so what do you do? You do the dumb shit that isn't going to help
00:14:15.820
you win that didn't get you to that point. It will actually create a loss for you.
00:14:23.960
So I want you to shift your mindset. And I hope this podcast fires you up enough to do it
00:14:29.940
from, well, what if all this bad stuff happens? Some of it will, and you'll learn and you'll grow
00:14:38.440
and you'll adapt and you'll get better. Shift from the what if mindset to the let's find out.
00:14:45.840
Let's put it to the test. Let's really see how far I can take this. Let's put it all on the table and
00:14:54.560
let it ride. That's the mentality of winners. What if is the mentality of losers?
00:15:04.460
So if you're thinking to yourself, well, Ryan, I haven't ever been successful in life and I don't
00:15:10.220
know what I'm... Yes, that's a loser mentality. And some of you are going to be upset about that.
00:15:14.800
And some of you are going to be offended by that. And some of you, that's going to sting to your core
00:15:18.600
and it's going to hurt your heart. And it should. Because you don't want to be a loser.
00:15:25.400
You want to be a winner. So what do winners do? They put it all on the line.
00:15:31.260
They develop the skillset. They don't make stupid decisions, of course, but they pull it all on the
00:15:36.400
line. They develop that skillset. They hone their craft. They get better. They look for inefficiencies
00:15:42.980
and deficiencies in their life. And they shore those areas up and they acquire the assets and
00:15:46.940
they acquire this skillset. And then they go out and they act and they do big things.
00:15:53.960
How many of you guys are wishing that you were like Joe Rogan or Elon Musk or Jordan Peterson,
00:16:02.180
or maybe even me. Oh man, I wish I had that. You can have it. But you got to shift from the
00:16:11.840
what if mentality to the let's find out. Men are designed to take calculated risks,
00:16:21.520
even more so than women. We are uniquely hardwired to go out and risk in order to provide for ourselves
00:16:32.060
and the people that we care about. And I want you to take more risks. I want you to put it all on the
00:16:38.980
line. I want you to put your nuts on the chopping block. And I want you to get after it. Because
00:16:44.880
what I think you'll find is that there's a world of opportunity and availability and growth and
00:16:54.000
learning and prosperity and fulfillment. And all of that is hiding on the other side of the hill
00:16:59.380
that you're not willing to look at because you're afraid and you're scared. And I get it. I
00:17:05.320
understand. But get over yourself and make some moves. All right, guys. That's all I've got. I'm
00:17:11.680
going to go spend some time with my family today. I've been gone for a week. I can hear my kids playing
00:17:15.280
in the background. Maybe you can too. I'm going to go do Legos and my son's out on the trail camera
00:17:20.100
putting cards in the trail cams. He does that stuff way more than I do. But these are the experiences
00:17:27.820
and the memories that we've been able to create over the past two and a half years because I
00:17:30.940
decided to move from, well, what if this goes wrong? And what if that goes wrong too? Let's find out.
00:17:37.760
And I've been pleasantly surprised with the outcome. All right, guys. We'll be back next week. Until
00:17:43.760
then, go out there, take action, move to that. Let's find out mentality and become the man you are meant
00:17:50.740
to be. Thank you for listening to the order of man podcast. You're ready to take charge of your life
00:17:55.620
and be more of the man you were meant to be. We invite you to join the order at orderofman.com.
