00:00:42.760
We have got you covered, and most of you know by now that we have a full interview show that's
00:00:48.120
released each and every Tuesday. This today is our short show. It's released each Friday. I'm
00:00:52.500
going to share a lesson, a thought, or an idea with you that I've had over the past week,
00:00:56.180
and we usually go for about five to eight minutes on these. But, you want to make sure that you
00:00:59.780
subscribe in iTunes or wherever you get your Fixed Podcasts so you never miss this show or our Tuesday
00:01:05.680
show. Now, I want to get into the show today. I want to talk with you about investing in yourself.
00:01:10.540
If you've been listening to me for any amount of time, you know that I'm a financial advisor by
00:01:14.400
trade. I have been for about eight years, and I cannot even count how many ideas that people have
00:01:20.080
wanted to invest in. It ranges from stocks and bonds to gold and silver, rental properties,
00:01:25.520
exotic art, private islands, private jets, and of course, everywhere in between. I've heard it all.
00:01:31.140
But you know what I rarely hear that people want to invest in? It's themselves. Everyone seems to
00:01:35.660
want to invest in other people. They want to invest in other ideas, but no one wants to invest in
00:01:40.480
themselves. I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I get it. It might be maybe too hard or
00:01:45.760
too expensive for people or they don't see the value in it or even that it's something that's
00:01:50.600
been overlooked. Look, I'm here to tell you that if you want to have any measure of success in your
00:01:55.180
life, you better find a way to invest in yourself. I know it gets expensive, but the question really
00:01:59.720
shouldn't revolve around cost. The question is, can you really afford not to invest in yourself?
00:02:05.420
Now, while we're on this topic, I really want to address what this word invest even means. Now,
00:02:10.940
the idea behind an investment is that you give some sort of capital. It doesn't always have to
00:02:15.540
be money. It could be, but it could also be time, energy, resources. And you take that and you put
00:02:22.020
that into an idea or a project or a venture with the hopes of that capital returning back to you with
00:02:28.880
more capital. Again, time, energy, money, resources, et cetera. But what's interesting is that when you
00:02:35.040
make an investment into a traditional vehicle, say stocks, for example, it might, it might
00:02:40.260
return back to you, but there is no guarantee on that. But when you invest in yourself,
00:02:45.960
it always yields a return, a guaranteed return. Yet for some reason, we don't do it or we don't
00:02:54.680
do it to the degree that we should. When's the last time guys that you went to a conference?
00:02:59.400
When's the last time that you spent money on a course? When's the last time that you bought a book?
00:03:03.420
Now, I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here because you gentlemen are obviously willing to
00:03:07.780
invest time, energy, resources, money, all of that stuff into approving yourselves, or you wouldn't
00:03:11.620
be listening to me on this podcast. But let me ask you this. Can you name a time where you invested
00:03:16.920
in yourself and you didn't get a return five, 10, 20, a hundred times over? And if you can't think of
00:03:25.240
a time when that actually happened in your life, then I'm challenging you right now to double down
00:03:30.780
on that investment in yourself, double down on that investment. If you knew that you couldn't
00:03:36.220
fail, would you do it? Of course you would. And that's exactly what's happening when you invest
00:03:42.220
in yourself. You cannot fail. I was looking at my book library the other night with my wife and we
00:03:47.820
calculated that I have close to $6,000 in books in my library. And I know it's been more than that
00:03:54.440
over the course of the years that I've been reading and studying. I'm probably going to spend
00:03:59.340
in the ballpark of 20 to $25,000 this year on coaching and events. And I tell you this because
00:04:05.500
I want you to know that I'm serious about what I'm telling you to do right now. This is critical
00:04:09.960
guys to your life and your success. So what does it look like? How do you invest in yourself?
00:04:14.780
I think probably the lowest barrier to entry is books, physical books, audio books. I don't care
00:04:19.960
what it is. As long as you start building up your library, you can even use the library if you need
00:04:24.140
to. It's free. I prefer to own a book. I prefer to physically and tangibly flip
00:04:29.220
through a book. But as long as you're reading, I think that's the first investment that you can
00:04:33.840
make in yourself. Turn off the TV, get in front of a book. Second, I would suggest that you start
00:04:39.560
attending events. There are events happening guys all over the world and they're focused on the
00:04:44.380
topics that you care about. You need to go rub shoulders with the people that care about the
00:04:48.800
same things that you do. You'll learn a ton of information and you'll start building another type
00:04:54.120
of capital. And I can talk about this in another podcast, but it's relationship capital. So get your
00:04:58.120
butt to events. Next, I want you to consider a mastermind of sorts, whether it's done locally
00:05:02.860
or it's done virtually. A mastermind is going to connect you with other like-minded guys.
00:05:06.500
And it allows you to see things in your life that are difficult or even impossible to see for
00:05:11.840
yourself. The power of masterminds is in the accountability that it brings to the table for
00:05:17.200
you. Now, if you really want to take this thing to the next level, when it comes to education and
00:05:22.060
investing yourself, and this may not be where you start, but it is something to consider
00:05:25.540
is that you hire a coach in whatever field that you're trying to improve. If you need to get in
00:05:30.180
better shape, hire a fitness coach. If you want to grow your business, hire a business coach.
00:05:33.880
This is a question I get a lot. Who do I hire as a coach? I want you to look for somebody who is
00:05:38.160
experiencing the same results that you want to see in your life and do exactly what they say.
00:05:43.320
Do not recreate the wheel. Hire them and do what they say. It's simple. And bottom line here,
00:05:49.700
guys, I want you to invest in yourself. I don't care where, I don't care how, but if you really want to
00:05:54.780
take your life to the next level, if you really want to become the man that you're meant to be,
00:05:58.240
it's what you're going to have to do. And you're going to have to learn how to put up some capital
00:06:02.080
with the idea and the goal of it returning back. And again, every time you invest in yourself,
00:06:06.420
that's how it's going to work. Now, Albert Einstein said,
00:06:09.320
we cannot solve problems at the same level of thinking we use to create them. In other words,
00:06:14.260
you and I, we both live in a box. It's our box. We created it. We live in it. And the only way for
00:06:19.680
us to get outside of that closed box is to actually get outside of the box that we created.
00:06:23.800
But the problem is we don't really know how to do that. We can't see outside of our own box.
00:06:29.100
You can't see what's on the outside, but other people can. And that's why it's critical
00:06:32.580
that you read, you go to conferences, join masterminds, go to events, hire coaches.
00:06:38.660
They're going to help you see a world you didn't even know existed. I know this has been true for me
00:06:44.440
in my life. Every time I participate in one of the things that I'm telling you guys to do today.
00:06:49.100
Now, I want to give a disclaimer real quick with what I'm about to say,
00:06:52.420
because I've got two resources for you where you can start tapping into some of what I'm talking
00:06:55.980
about here. And as much as I want to have you tap into these resources, I don't care again,
00:07:00.220
if you join me and the order of man, or you invest somewhere else, just make sure that you're doing
00:07:05.100
something. Now, the first resource I want to share with you is our elite mastermind,
00:07:08.940
the iron council. You've heard me talk about it before we meet together each and every week
00:07:12.960
online. We've got a closed Facebook group. I share exclusive videos. You get, you're given
00:07:16.660
assignments, you complete daily challenges, and you're going to be accountable to other men in the group
00:07:21.000
and taking your life to the next level. Next month, we're actually going to be start implementing
00:07:25.160
12 week goals and some platforms and ways to be accountable to each other. Guys, it's 67 bucks a
00:07:31.640
month, 67 bucks a month. You and I spend more on that each month on stuff that just doesn't matter.
00:07:37.000
And I suggest that you start spending it on the things that do. So if you're interested in that
00:07:42.860
resource and that investment, check out order of man.com slash iron council. Now, the second
00:07:48.180
investment that I want to share with you is our inaugural order of man uprising experience in
00:07:52.220
the mountains of Southern Utah. This event is going to be held September 15th through the 18th,
00:07:56.200
2016. It's in the mountains of Southern Utah. We're going to take three days in a cabin that I've
00:08:00.920
leased, and we're going to work together and helping you become a better protector, a better provider,
00:08:06.340
a better presider, a leader over yourself and your family and your business. We've got some tactical
00:08:09.860
scenarios. We've got survival situations. We're going to be hiking in probably the most beautiful
00:08:15.220
parks this country has to offer. We're going to be doing fireside masterminds each and every morning,
00:08:19.800
each and every evening. And then we're going to have instruction, expert instruction to help you
00:08:23.460
gain confidence and discipline and mastery again, to take your life to the next level. So if you're
00:08:27.940
interested in that resource, you can get more of the details at order of man.com slash uprising.
00:08:32.720
I hope to see you guys in the iron council and at the uprising, go out there, invest in one
00:08:39.640
thing this week, just one. If it's one of these resources I gave you, excellent. If it's a book,
00:08:46.760
excellent. If it's hiring a coach, great. If it's going to an event, I don't care, but get out there,
00:08:52.660
go invest in yourself and you're guaranteed to see the returns. Guys, I look forward to talking to you
00:08:58.300
next week, but until then take action and become the man we're meant to be. Those are your Friday
00:09:03.240
field notes. Now it's time to crush your excuses, own your choices, accept responsibility and live
00:09:10.100
manfully. Learn how at order of man.com forward slash field notes.
