00:01:06.740 I want to jump right into this topic of today, which is why fitness matters. Now, if you've been
00:01:11.660 following me for any amount of time, you know that I've been on a fitness journey over the past
00:01:15.720 three years come September. And I want to tell you a little bit about that journey, where I have
00:01:20.900 succeeded, where I have failed, why it's critical. Fitness is critical to helping you become a better
00:01:26.540 man and how you can get started or even break through that plateau that you might find yourself
00:01:30.300 on right now. Three years ago, guys, I was in a bad way. I was depressed. I was tired. I didn't have
00:01:36.140 any energy. I hated the way that I looked. It was bad. And then I remember one time in particular,
00:01:40.460 when I came home from work and my sons asked if I could play with them and I had to literally look
00:01:45.240 them in the eye and tell them that I could not, I literally could not go play. I just didn't have
00:01:49.580 the energy. And that was the moment, guys, that had all changed for me. I knew something had to
00:01:54.080 change and that's when it flipped in my mind. And I also remember not too long after that, sitting in
00:01:59.420 a parade around this time, three years ago. And one of the entries in the parade was a local CrossFit
00:02:05.360 gym that was actually just getting started. They handed me a flyer for a free week and that was it.
00:02:10.520 I was off to the races. Now, a lot has transpired since then, but I'm in the best shape of my life.
00:02:15.200 My businesses are exploding. My marriage is doing awesome. We're making more money than we ever have.
00:02:19.380 And we have the time flexibility to do what we want when we want to do it. Now,
00:02:23.740 a lot of guys about this time will say, well, that might be nice for you, but,
00:02:28.120 but I have to get a job, but I have to pay the bills, but I have the obligations to take care of.
00:02:32.080 And if that's you, if you're telling yourself that here's the lie that you're actually telling
00:02:35.720 yourself, you're saying that it's an either or scenario. I have to take care of my obligations
00:02:41.540 or I can take care of myself. And what I want to tell you is that you can have both.
00:02:46.760 If this is a big, if, if you consciously decide what it is that you actually want and then start
00:02:53.820 crafting a plan to get there. But the first step, it's always a decision. Now I've told you the
00:02:59.260 benefits for me getting back into shape, deep relationships, business success, connection with
00:03:04.080 my kids, making more money. And if that's not enough motivation for you, I don't know what will
00:03:09.700 motivate you. Something has got to change. If that doesn't motivate you. Now you might be thinking
00:03:13.940 to yourself, how is it possible that working out regularly will help with every other aspect of
00:03:20.200 my life? And the quick and easy answer to that is that when you are working out, when you're
00:03:24.040 exercising, when you're eating right, you will regain the energy that you need in order to handle
00:03:29.840 your other business, your family, your work, your spiritual leadership, community service,
00:03:33.700 and so on. And while it's true that you will have more energy, the answer actually goes way
00:03:40.000 deeper. It's way more deep. It's way more powerful. And here's the big secret to why if
00:03:44.420 you aren't happy with where you are in life, you probably should start with fitness. When
00:03:48.500 you spend time getting back into shape, you develop all, all of the tools, the skills,
00:03:54.800 all of the abilities, the habits that will help you succeed in other areas of your life.
00:04:00.200 It's that simple. It's discipline. It's hard work. It's dedication. It's commitment. It's doing
00:04:04.920 things when they're hard. It's doing things when you don't want to. It's sacrifice. And those
00:04:08.120 are all the things that it's going to take you to succeed, whether you're trying to hit
00:04:11.660 a personal record on your deadlift or trying to re-engage with your wife, or even if you're
00:04:16.700 trying to get that job promotion. And that's why fitness matters, guys. It applies to every
00:04:21.020 other aspect of life. Now, when I start talking about what I do from a fitness routine, which
00:04:26.560 is CrossFit, I inevitably hear somebody say, CrossFit is bad for you, or you'll get seriously
00:04:31.760 injured doing CrossFit. I don't care if you like CrossFit. It does not matter to me. What
00:04:35.780 you do and believe has no outcome in my life. So if you don't like CrossFit because your
00:04:40.100 uncle's son's sister's boyfriend's friend hurt himself, cool. But you better do something.
00:04:46.360 Now, I'm not a fitness expert, so I'm not going to suggest what you do or a certain routine
00:04:51.000 or a workout you should get involved with. But I will tell you the best workout that you
00:04:55.140 can do is the one that's actually going to work for you. So I want to give you a couple
00:04:58.620 of things to consider as you're starting your fitness or you're trying to overcome the plateau
00:05:02.600 that you might find yourself on. Number one, do something that engages you. If you like
00:05:07.680 running, run. If you like to play sports, play basketball. If you like lifting heavy
00:05:11.080 things, lift. If you like martial arts, do Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Don't listen to anybody
00:05:15.540 who says you have to do blank. Because if you have to and it doesn't appeal to you, you probably
00:05:22.300 won't. And therefore, it wasn't that great of a workout because you didn't do it. Also,
00:05:26.240 you need to find accountability. This could be going on a jog with a friend, keeping score
00:05:30.820 and allowing other people to see it. Or even competing with someone that's close to your
00:05:35.100 same level. Maybe they're slightly ahead of you. But competition is huge. Accountability
00:05:39.240 is huge. You have to do it. And then on another level of accountability, get a coach. I was
00:05:43.820 at the gym this morning and I started a slack on my pull-ups and my coach came over to me
00:05:47.660 and he said, let's go. That's all he said and that's all it took and I was back into it.
00:05:51.520 A coach is going to keep you motivated, but he's also going to help you see things that you
00:05:55.680 cannot. He'll say the things that you need to hear. So if you're ready for a big commitment,
00:05:59.660 even if you really want to get committed to your fitness, I would suggest that you hire
00:06:03.380 a coach. Next, you want to sign up for events. And even more importantly, sign up for events

00:06:29.860 But the point is, is having your eye on some future event will in a way force you to continue
00:06:36.160 to get prepared for it. And my last tip for today is be in this thing for the long haul.
00:06:41.540 If you've been slacking for any amount of time with your fitness and nutrition goals,
00:06:45.120 when you start back up, that weight is going to fall right off. But as you get back into shape,
00:06:51.060 you're going to see fewer and fewer pounds drop. You're going to see less and less gains in your
00:06:54.880 workouts. And that's why it's critical that you don't exercise as a quick way to get ready
00:06:59.800 for that cruise next month. You've got to commit to the habit, the habit of getting in shape,
00:07:05.400 not the results that you want to see. So there you have it, men. You have your marching orders,
00:07:11.520 get moving, eat right and watch. I promise watch your life change. And above all, when you feel like
