In this episode, Ryan talks about the importance of a battle plan, and why you should incorporate one into your life every single day. He also talks about what a man is and why it's important to have one.
00:00:45.740At the end of the day, and after all the hats we wear, all the things that we do, a man is a protector, a provider, and a presider, a leader.
00:00:53.520So knowing that, and knowing our mission of helping you show up more fully in your life and the lives of those you care about and have responsibility for,
00:01:01.120our goal is to bring on the world's most successful men, we extract their valuable lessons, their insights, and then we deliver them straight to you.
00:01:08.920But with that said, each week you also get to listen to me ramble, which is what you're doing now.
00:01:13.400This is our Friday Field Notes show, but make sure you catch our interview show each Tuesday as well.
00:01:18.580A couple of things before I talk with you about building your battle plan.
00:01:22.960And we've got a Facebook group, which you can join at facebook.com slash groups slash Order of Man.
00:01:28.700And we've also got a mastermind, which you can find out more about and join at orderofman.com slash Iron Council.
00:01:35.520In the Facebook group, we talk about some of the concepts that I share here in the podcast.
00:01:39.600And in the mastermind, we talk about, and most importantly, we apply those concepts that I and my guests talk about in this show.
00:01:47.420So go check them out, and hopefully we'll see you in both.
00:02:16.860The enemy does not want you to succeed.
00:02:19.140Yes, there are external enemies that we will have to face.
00:02:22.100But unless you're in a life or death struggle with a criminal or in war, the enemy that you and I are more likely to face can also be our greatest ally.
00:02:31.840And that's the man that we look at in the mirror every single day.
00:02:35.500And that man in the mirror wants everything right now.
00:02:39.480He doesn't want to work for it, but he wants it.
00:02:55.580So with that said, and knowing that you and I are working against ourselves, it is critical.
00:03:00.260It's imperative that we consider coming up with a simple plan, a simple strategy that's going to allow us to combat that immediate gratification and the laziness that all of us fall prey to.
00:03:12.400This is the plan I call a battle plan, and it consists of three very simple sections.
00:03:18.440I don't care if you take notes about this podcast.
00:03:21.060I don't care if you draft your own battle plan.
00:03:23.220I don't care if you download a free digital copy of the battle plan I use, which if you are interested, you can get at orderofman.com slash battle plan.
00:03:30.740You could also buy our physical annual battle planner.
00:03:34.180That's at orderofman.com slash battle planner.
00:03:37.660But what I do care about is that you incorporate this type of planning that I'm going to share with you today into your life.
00:03:43.760And this isn't something that you do once a year or once a quarter at the end of every year.
00:03:48.880This is something that you do every single day without fail because that is what it takes.
00:03:54.780It's going to take relentless discipline in scheduling out some time every day to complete this battle plan.
00:04:04.160It's especially difficult if you're not used to coordinating this time in your day for planning.
00:04:09.300But I know that as I've incorporated even just 15 to 20 to 30 minutes in the morning to come up with a plan of attack that I have so much more effective results throughout the day and throughout my week and throughout my life.
00:04:23.020So I want to get real tactical with you here as I walk through what needs to be included in this type of planning.
00:04:28.540Again, there's three major components.
00:04:33.580These are the activities that you do day in and day out without fail.
00:04:37.900Things that you've identified as helping you get your mind right and your body right and your soul for conquering the remainder of your day.
00:04:47.580So as for me and my non-negotiables, to give you an example, I actually use Hal Elrod's Miracle Morning.
00:04:52.820I know a lot of you guys are familiar with that.
00:04:54.840I actually did an interview with Hal, which is at orderofman.com slash 070.
00:05:01.720And those six things that I do every single morning.
00:05:04.460First, exercise, meditation, reading, journaling, planning, and visualization.
00:05:12.480So you can incorporate those into your daily life or something completely different or a mixture or a combination.
00:05:17.620You're going to have to experiment to see what's going to work for you.
00:05:20.380But I would recommend that you make a chart so that you can literally check these things off as you get them completed.
00:05:25.880There's just something about checking these things off a list.
00:05:28.700The next component is your daily task section.
00:05:32.920These are the items that you need to get done today.
00:05:35.920You may have a list of five or six things.
00:05:41.200Either way, you need to write down the things that you need to get done.
00:05:44.380If you don't, and I know this has been true for me, you're just going to lose track of what you need to get done.
00:05:49.120So I like to keep a running list of calls I need to make or blog posts or podcasts that I need to complete, emails that I might need to send, those type of things.
00:05:59.120But writing this stuff down makes it significantly more likely that I will get it done.
00:06:04.420And it also helps me to prioritize what items I need to get done first.
00:06:08.180If you can't see all of this stuff in one location, I promise you, I guarantee you, you are going to run a very inefficient lifestyle.
00:06:18.560A lot of people will ask me about prioritization and what they should get done first.
00:06:22.820My prioritization strategy is very simple.
00:06:25.180I pick the task from that list that I can get done with the least amount of effort that will yield the highest results.
00:06:32.800What can I get done right now that will require the least amount of effort and yield the highest results?
00:07:28.800So when it comes to my daily objectives, I focus on four key areas.
00:07:33.240So the first is condition, which is health.
00:07:36.100The second is what I call calibration.
00:07:38.020This is focusing on yourself, your mind, and your soul.
00:07:41.200The third is connection, which is relationships.
00:07:44.000And the fourth is contribution, which is wealth building and providing value to this world.
00:07:47.960So I come up with one, just one, very specific objective in each of these categories
00:07:54.440for every single day that will help me move closer to what I would consider success.
00:07:59.660So for example, if we're talking about condition, which again is health, I might choose to go for a run with my 20 pound weighted vest.
00:08:08.040When it comes to calibration, which is getting the mind and the soul right, I might choose to go shooting for 30 minutes or so by myself to get my head cleared.
00:08:18.040When it comes to connection, I might play catch with my son for 30 minutes.
00:08:22.360And when it comes to contribution, maybe I choose to balance my checkbook.
