00:01:40.440 you're just going to hear from me some of my thoughts that I have on the subject of becoming
00:01:44.520 a better man. Now, today, I want to talk with you about the notion that every man is a marketer,
00:01:50.600 whether you're trying to win the girl or get a job promotion or get new clients, it is
00:01:56.600 critical that you wrap your head around the idea that you are a marketer. Today, I'm going
00:02:02.900 to share with you why this mindset is so important. I'm going to share with you some of the pitfalls
00:02:07.460 that we should avoid and some very simple strategies, very simple strategies that you can implement
00:02:11.580 today right now to help you get more out of your life. And that's the point. We want to maximize
00:02:16.280 our time here on this earth. Now, I know there's a lot of guys who think that they're not marketers
00:02:21.460 or that somehow this is a shady way of looking at things, but I can assure you it's not.
00:02:27.440 If you have a product, whether that product is some service or offering you have, or even yourself,
00:02:33.680 you have an obligation to bring that product, service, or yourself to market and share it with
00:02:38.980 the world. If you think that by selling yourself, you're doing it wrong, I really believe that
00:02:43.880 you're limiting your potential. And of course, the ultimate results that you can produce for
00:02:49.460 yourself and other people. Why wouldn't you share yourself and your product with the world?
00:02:53.380 Is it just because somebody told you not to sell? I mean, the reality is that salesmen,
00:02:58.760 they make the world go around. Now there's right ways to do it and there's the wrong ways to do it.
00:03:04.460 And if you do it incorrectly, you're going to end up shooting yourself in the foot. Like I've seen
00:03:07.700 thousands and thousands of men do, but if you do it the right way, you're going to enrich your life
00:03:12.880 and the lives of your clients, your employers, or maybe even a potential spouse. And maybe even
00:03:18.900 your children together down the road. I know that the slimy, uh, used car salesmen and the insurance
00:03:24.520 guys, I know because I used to be one, uh, have really ruined the notion of sales for a lot of
00:03:29.020 people. But again, if you do this right, you're not really selling at all. You're simply giving
00:03:33.980 people exactly what they want and exactly what they're asking for. That's a good thing. That's the
00:03:39.340 right thing to do. Sales and promotion and marketing. That's all a noble calling. So today
00:03:45.040 let's talk about some of these strategies and the mindsets that you can use to promote yourself
00:03:49.640 and your products more effectively in your life. So the first point is thinking about what's in it
00:03:55.780 for them. Most of the guys that give sales a bad rap do so because they're so focused on what's in it
00:04:01.860 for themselves that they completely overlook what's in it for the other party. I get questions
00:04:08.020 all the time, for example, about how I've been able to secure such great podcast guests,
00:04:12.820 especially right out of the gate. I mean, when we started, we got some high, high caliber men on
00:04:17.380 the podcast right away. And this is a very simple strategy. It's a very simple process. I keep the
00:04:23.660 other party's interest in mind. If I can find a great guest that is releasing a book or a course or
00:04:30.260 a product or a service or an offering, and I can help promote that to my audience, that's a win for
00:04:35.720 them. My needs are important too, but keeping other people's interest in mind creates a win-win
00:04:41.800 situation always as opposed to a win-lose situation where I might win and that person loses or that
00:04:48.040 person might win and I lose. I want win-win situations. Now, another question I get asked
00:04:52.380 all the time is how do I get a job promotion? How do I ask for this type of promotion? Like if you go
00:04:58.280 into your boss's office with the expectation of demanding or that somehow you deserve a raise,
00:05:05.720 you're not going to get a raise. But if on the other hand, you go into your boss's office and
00:05:11.320 share with your boss all the wonderful things that you've done and how giving you a raise will actually
00:05:17.680 improve their bottom line, an employer would be dumb not to. Again, keep their interest in mind
00:05:25.020 and you will win. You're going to win for yourself. You're going to win for them every
00:05:29.140 single time. Point number two, building your network. It is not what you know. It's who you know.
00:05:36.380 Now, that's such a cliche statement, but like any cliche statement, it's that way because it's true.
00:05:41.840 If you aren't taking the time to network now, you are killing your chances of producing results
00:05:47.660 when you need them. There's that Chinese proverb and everybody's heard this. The best time to plant a
00:05:53.700 tree was 20 years ago. And the second best time is now, but most people aren't going to network.
00:05:58.920 They won't network now because they're satisfied. They're complacent. They're comfortable. It's only
00:06:04.540 when people fall upon hard times, whether that's a job loss or a divorce or a layoff separation,
00:06:10.120 something like that, that they actually begin to think, maybe I should network. And if that's you,
00:06:15.380 it's too late at that point. Every great opportunity in my life has come because I'm connected with
00:06:22.000 people who have great opportunities and I don't wait until I need something before I nurture my
00:06:27.480 network. If I was ever out of work, I could tap into the network that I've built and get a job
00:06:32.100 probably with the snap of my finger. I don't say that in arrogance. I say that in confidence,
00:06:35.880 knowing that I've done the work to build a solid network. If I was ever divorced or if I was single
00:06:42.080 and wanted to get into the dating world, I could reach out to my network and line up a few dates
00:06:46.260 immediately. It's not really all that hard to build a network either. You just find people who are
00:06:51.840 thriving in their lives, whether that's business, relationships, health, you name it, figure out
00:06:57.680 a way to add value to them, which was the first point that I made to you a minute ago and connect
00:07:02.840 and keep connecting. When you can help them, help them. When you can make an introduction,
00:07:07.960 make an introduction. This is not about keeping score, but people are naturally inclined to help
00:07:13.000 those who have been helpful in the past. I get so many messages from people asking how they can get
00:07:18.720 something from me. Very rare and memorable is the person who reaches out to lead with value.
00:07:25.440 I have a friend, for example, who got me into the SHOT Show. If you don't know what that is,
00:07:30.180 it's a big gun show every year. You can look it up. He got me into the SHOT Show earlier this year.
00:07:35.020 I didn't know this guy from Adam, but at the time he went out of his way to help me get something that
00:07:40.760 I wanted. And as of the release of this podcast today, if you're listening to the day that it's being
00:07:46.080 released, him and I are actually hunting in Texas right now because we both fostered a relationship
00:07:51.140 by leading with value. Not what's in it for me, what's in it for the other party. And when you both
00:07:57.400 do that, you create again that win-win. It's really simple in theory. Now you've just got to go
00:08:01.640 implement it and you've got to practice it. And the third point that I want to make today,
00:08:05.400 and this is the most important point about sales and marketing and promotion, that you actually
00:08:11.500 have to be valuable. The only way to connect with other people and put yourself in the position to
00:08:17.020 give others what they're after is to actually be a man of value. We spend so much time focusing on
00:08:23.900 the external and spend so little time focusing on the internal. So where's your mind? Where's your
00:08:30.780 health? How's your bank account? How's your relationships? The more that you can get everything
00:08:36.040 with you, with you figured out, the more valuable you become to other people. The more that I learn,
00:08:42.640 for example, the more that I actually get to share now, the more experiences that I take part in,
00:08:47.600 the more interesting I become, the healthier I am, the more energy I have to now in turn help other
00:08:54.120 people. And the beauty is that this is like a snowball effect. The more valuable I am to others,
00:08:59.860 the more people I attract to myself. And the more people I attract in my life,
00:09:04.840 the more other people are attracted to that. Working on yourself is a compounding effort.
00:09:11.440 You will never lose by working on yourself. I made this the last bullet point today, because
00:09:16.340 if there's one underlying theme to the work that we're doing here, it's to focus on what you can do
00:09:22.220 and become the best possible version of yourself guys. Sure. There's some strategies that you can learn
00:09:29.000 about marketing and sales. And I've talked about a few of them today, but for the most part,
00:09:33.380 if you take care of you, a lot of this other stuff just falls into place. That's been my
00:09:38.140 experience anyways. So meditate, exercise, read, have conversations with interesting people,
00:09:44.740 make connections, do interesting stuff. These are all ways to lift yourself up and in turn,
00:09:50.540 lift others up. At the end of the day, we'd all do well as men to remember that we are marketers,
00:09:55.680 that we are in sales, whether it's a product, a service, an offering, or even if it's just us,
00:10:01.280 remember, always frame your interactions with a mindset towards what is in it for other people.
00:10:07.340 Number two, build your network now, right now, before you need it. And number three,
00:10:11.820 and you should always be working on this, be more valuable yourself. Gents, I've got to throw in a
