00:00:32.560 towards the end of the year 2021. It's been a crazy year. It's been a crazy year for probably a lot of
00:00:38.720 you guys. A lot of good things happening. Maybe some bad things happening in the wake of the reaction
00:00:43.540 to COVID and lockdowns and all this other nonsense that's going on in the world right now. But I've
00:00:49.740 been thinking a lot about, not about, but a lot about what 2022 is going to hold for me and my
00:00:58.420 family and my business and what we're trying to do here. And if I'm thinking about it, I imagine that
00:01:03.440 you guys are probably thinking about it as well. About this time, everybody starts to think about
00:01:07.280 New Year's resolutions and how to make their next year the greatest year ever. You hear a lot about
00:01:12.360 how 2021 was a warmup and 2022 is going to be my year. And I want that to be true. I'm not making
00:01:20.540 light of that. I really want that to be true. But damn, it seems like some of you guys need
00:01:24.400 10 warmup years before you actually do anything. And I don't want that to be the case. I want 2022
00:01:30.860 to be the best year ever for you. So today I thought I'd share with you five very simple strategies and
00:01:37.860 tips in order for you to crush 2022, because I don't want it to be another warmup year. I don't
00:01:43.960 want you to say 2021 with my warmup year. And then 12 months from now say, nope, nope. 2022 is my warmup
00:01:49.760 year. Enough warming up. Let's get to it. So number one, guys, you have to know exactly what you want.
00:01:56.820 All right. I don't know what day this podcast will be released. I think it's the 17th. So really you have
00:02:02.620 about 13, 14 days, two weeks at this point to think about what you want for 2022. And please
00:02:09.560 don't say that you want to make more money. Don't say you want a better relationship. Don't say you
00:02:14.420 want to be more spiritual or you want to be healthier. I'm not saying those things aren't
00:02:18.160 good objectives to have. I'm saying they're not specific enough. So it's going to be hard for you
00:02:23.060 to yield any sort of measurable result. One of my early mentors and now friend, Sean Whalen,
00:02:28.320 uh, made me, uh, come up with a very specific number that I wanted to reach. This was several
00:02:36.260 years ago. Cause I said, I want to make more money. And he really got after me and he said,
00:02:40.200 no, get specific. And so I did, I told him the amount that I wanted to make on a monthly basis.
00:02:45.060 And within a 90 day window, I was making that much money on a monthly basis. That's largely in part to
00:02:50.840 the fact that I got very specific about what I wanted. And it isn't any surprise to me now.
00:02:56.500 It was then now that as I am more specific about what I want, that I inevitably achieve those goals
00:03:03.680 and objectives. So if you want to make more money, how much money exactly down to the dollar. Uh,
00:03:10.480 if you want to have a better relationship with your wife, great. What does that mean? What does it
00:03:15.060 look like? What specifically are you doing? What vacations are you taking? What dates do you have?
00:03:19.920 Uh, if you want to lose weight, how much exactly? And why, why do you want to lose that weight?
00:03:24.320 What's that going to look like when you walk by the mirror? How are you going to feel about yourself
00:03:27.980 when you're being intimate with your wife? How's that going to go when you have this, this, uh,
00:03:33.440 objective accomplished. So guys get very, very specific, know exactly what you want.
00:03:38.740 And I can assure you that if you know what you want, you are more likely to achieve that thing.
00:03:44.960 I would also suggest to you that as you're thinking about these things, you don't have to crush
00:03:49.120 the entire year. Okay. I like to work in 90 day segments, 12 weeks at a time. So I've planned out
00:03:56.280 what the first quarter of 2022 is going to look like. And what that allows me to do is not get so
00:04:01.320 broad and overwhelmed with everything I want to get done next year, but just something that I can
00:04:07.040 accomplish in 90 days and 90 days keeps me interested. It's short enough. It keeps me interested.
00:04:12.540 I have a little bit of ADD going on. Uh, but it's also long enough where I can actually
00:04:16.440 achieve a measurable result, something that's significant, not just a slight improvement over
00:04:22.260 last week. So know exactly what you want. Think about your fitness. Think about your money.
00:04:27.660 Think about the relationships. Think about how you're going to build wealth in your business.
00:04:32.420 Think about how you feel about yourself and get specific, get a journal out, get a notepad out,
00:04:36.840 whatever. Uh, use our battle planner, 12 week battle planner, which is in the store at

00:04:46.040 and minds of men, and it will help you walk through that plan. So that's number one, know
00:04:49.540 what you want. Number two, you got to know your deficiencies. All right. There's some areas in
00:04:53.780 your life that you are falling short, whether or not you acknowledge that and realize that
00:04:59.000 is another question. And it's not always comfortable to think about the fact that maybe
00:05:05.000 you're inadequate in some areas that maybe you're struggling, that maybe you aren't as good as you
00:05:09.320 think you are. Uh, but you need to acknowledge that. And if you don't acknowledge that and you put
00:05:14.280 the blinders on and you pretend like it doesn't exist, then I promise you a year from now, you're
00:05:19.300 going to be saying 2023 is my year because 2022 wasn't. Again, I don't want that to be the case.
00:05:25.380 So pull the blinders off, open yourself up to the idea that maybe you aren't as good as you think you
00:05:31.300 are. The buzzword is vulnerable, right? I'm not going to use the buzzword. I'm going to use another
00:05:34.940 word. I was talking with my friend, uh, Jack Donovan about this. The word is humility,
00:05:40.420 exercise, some humility, not vulnerability, humility, right? You aren't perfect. You don't
00:05:47.180 have everything figured out. Neither do I, neither does anybody. So what exactly are those deficiencies?
00:05:52.780 What do you need to shore up? What skillset do you need to develop?
00:05:57.040 What, what, what characteristic trait of yours is a flaw? What are your vices? What do you need to let go
00:06:04.260 of? You need to identify what you want, but you also need to identify what you have that's in the
00:06:10.060 way. And that's what maybe some of these deficiencies are or some things that maybe you need. I need to
00:06:15.140 develop this skillset or this relationship or this network. And that's the next point. Number three is
00:06:20.340 you have to start building out your team right now. If you're a business owner, you've got to have an
00:06:26.840 accountant. You've got to have maybe a product manager or an office manager. You've got to have a
00:06:31.140 scheduler. You've got to have an attorney, like business owners build out teams as appropriate,
00:06:37.220 but we don't do that in other facets of our lives. Who is on your team? If it's your neighbor,
00:06:43.160 Bob, who you don't really like, and you guys don't really get along, but it's a relationship based on
00:06:47.040 default because he happens to be your neighbor. Okay. That probably isn't the best way for you to
00:06:51.660 build your team. Building a team is deliberate and intentional. You think about a professional sports
00:06:56.900 team, the Patriots, for example, building out their roster. Is it just kind of willy-nilly,
00:07:02.680 like whoever we think, like maybe that guy, okay. He seems like he's pretty good. Yeah. Let's
00:07:06.280 whatever. Oh, somebody made a recommendation. One of our players said his buddy or his cousin plays.
00:07:11.120 So let's recruit him. No, that's not what they do. They go out and they recruit. They watch film.
00:07:16.800 They interview. They have conversations. They look at their track record. They watch video.
00:07:21.080 Um, they see what the other people's stats are. If they were on another team or in college before
00:07:25.700 that, like they're meticulous about bringing in the right people onto their team. That's going to
00:07:33.260 help them a shore up some of the deficiencies they may have as a team. Okay. And that's one
00:07:39.060 thing they acknowledge. So that was point number two, but then also to build a winning program,
00:07:43.440 guys, you have to do the same thing in your life. Who is on your side? Who is your spiritual
00:07:49.700 advisor? Who is your financial advisor? Do you have an accountant? Who is it that you train with?
00:07:55.380 Who is it that holds you accountable? Who is it that, uh, keeps you on the right track? Who can
00:08:00.580 you call if you're in a bind? Who can call you if they're in a bind? Build out your team. So know what
00:08:05.980 you want, look for your deficiencies. And as you figure out what those are, build the team around
00:08:10.900 that. Be very deliberate and intentional in the next two weeks. And as we move into 2022,
00:08:15.620 number four, you have to have a plan for execution and communication, a plan for execution and
00:08:24.480 communication. So now you know what you want. You've got it written down. You've got it documented.
00:08:30.580 You know what your deficiencies are. You know what you need to shore up. You're actively working
00:08:34.460 on building out your team to have the right people in the right places to do the right things for you
00:08:40.020 to help you. Now you need to have a plan in place for that execution. What am I going to do on a daily
00:08:46.080 basis? What, how am I going to track it? Where in my calendar is this going to go? Like for example,
00:08:53.540 right now I'm in the process of writing my second book that comes out next year. I know what I want.
00:08:58.760 I want to write the book. I know what my deficiencies are. I'm not a great writer, but I have a team who's
00:09:03.220 helping me edit. He's doing the design work. He's doing the distribution. That's my team. And then I have
00:09:08.660 a plan in place for execution. I write every single day. I write no less than 1000 words per day. I
00:09:14.080 don't miss that at all for anything. Sometimes I'm up late. Sometimes I'm up early because I got to get
00:09:20.260 that thousand words done, but I've got a very systematized process. It's all right here in my
00:09:24.920 hand for ensuring that I get this work done. I know my deadlines. I know my goals. I know my
00:09:30.760 checkpoints. I got to have this many words written by here. I know exactly where everything is. And also,
00:09:36.120 so that's my plan for execution. I also have a plan for communication. So I have all these moving parts
00:09:41.580 and there's people who are impacted by the things I'm doing. Let's take the book writing process.
00:09:46.500 I've got my editor. We've got our designer. We've got our distribution team. We've got our marketing
00:09:52.460 team. And we talk, we communicate. We all know we're going to rally together. We're going to talk
00:09:56.860 about these things on a weekly, if not more frequently basis. But also my family is going to be
00:10:02.740 impacted by these decisions because I've got my head down on this thing. And so I won't be as
00:10:07.060 available for other things that I might normally be. And so I need to communicate that with my wife.
00:10:13.040 I need to communicate that with my children. And we do that every single day. And it's not just a
00:10:16.980 passing. It's not just when it happens. Cause if I did that, it wouldn't ever happen. It's clear.
00:10:23.040 It's deliberate. It's intentional. It's every morning. We talk about what's going on for the day and
00:10:27.660 the week, every morning. And then we also, I would say 95% of the time have dinner together
00:10:33.040 as a family. And we're having these types of conversations, a plan in place for execution
00:10:38.120 and a plan in place for communication with those who are going to be impacted by the work that you're
00:10:44.240 going to be doing moving into the new year. And guys, the last point. So this is a five-step formula
00:10:49.200 for you. The last point, a system in place for review. Very few people do this. Everybody plans
00:10:59.180 at the end of the year. They all start writing down what they, like everybody does that. They
00:11:03.620 don't always do it effectively or efficiently, but everybody does it. The other, he does these other
00:11:09.180 ones hit or miss, but this one, nobody does. They don't ever review. Guys is what you're doing
00:11:14.760 working. Okay. Because what you're, you might be thinking right now is that I've done all this work
00:11:21.880 in 2021 and 2022 is the year it's going to be paying off for me. Is it though? Because what if
00:11:29.160 you're doing the wrong things? You know, you feel productive. You feel like you're getting a lot of
00:11:33.240 work done. You feel like you're moving the needle, but if you aren't going back and analyzing your
00:11:37.220 performance and reviewing it and looking at where those deficiencies are and looking at how you can
00:11:41.620 improve in those areas, 2022 is going to yield much of what 2021 did for you. So you have to have a
00:11:48.460 process. I review daily. It's all, as I said earlier, right here in my hand, I go in and I ask myself
00:11:55.560 five questions. Here they are. Number one, what did I get done today? Well, I got my thousand words
00:12:01.780 written. I made these emails. I recorded this podcast, whatever, whatever you did. What did I get done?
00:12:09.280 Number two, what did I not get done? Because there's things on my list every day. I don't
00:12:13.500 think there's been more than a handful of days that I've completed everything on my to-do list,
00:12:17.920 maybe twice in my life. Most of the time, it's that I have something that needs to roll over to
00:12:26.440 tomorrow. Well, I identify what it is now so that tomorrow I don't have to spend a bunch of time
00:12:32.800 thinking about it. I'm ready to hit the ground running. So number two, what did I not get done?
00:12:37.040 Number three, what did I do well? This is different than what did I get done? What did I do well?
00:12:44.320 Where did I thrive? Hey, I was writing my words today for the book. Felt very efficient. Everything
00:12:48.840 flowed really well. Why was that the case? I'll give you an example. If I think about topics and
00:12:55.140 make a bullet point list of what I want to write about the next day, that next day's writing always
00:13:00.480 goes better. Always. And so I did that well today. That means I need to double down on that.
00:13:07.200 That system works. That little tactic or strategy works. So I need to keep doing that. But if I'm
00:13:12.820 not thinking about what's working, it's hit or miss. And I'm not really knowing what's producing the
00:13:17.000 results or what's keeping me from producing the results. Number four, what did I not do well?
00:13:23.260 Well, what did I not do well? Maybe when it comes to writing, maybe it just felt very clunky today.
00:13:29.420 I didn't get any done. I had some writer's block. I got my words because I said I was going to do a
00:13:34.380 thousand, but it was grinding and it was miserable. Okay. Well, why? Why is that the case? Well,
00:13:40.100 because my kids were coming in and out of the office and I had a bunch of meetings and I couldn't
00:13:44.440 sit down for two hours. I had to sit down for 15 minutes there and 15 minutes here. Okay. You can see
00:13:49.060 how that would be a problem. But again, if I don't spend any time thinking about why that was the
00:13:54.160 case, I won't do anything differently next time. So let's recap those four questions. Number one,
00:14:01.220 what did I get done? Number two, what did I not get done? Number three, what did I do well? Number four,
00:14:07.980 what did I do not so well? And then the fifth question is what am I going to do about it tomorrow?
00:14:14.640 Tomorrow. Now we're no longer living in the present. We're projecting ourselves into the future
00:14:19.840 so that tomorrow in 12 hours or 15 hours or whenever it is for you, maybe it's five hours.
00:14:26.360 Tomorrow is going to be efficient and effective because of the work that you did today. So guys,
00:14:32.400 you have to have that system in place, that five-step system or those questions, line of questioning.
00:14:37.920 It doesn't even have to be those questions. It could just be that line of questioning,
00:14:40.620 but a system in place for review. So with that said, let me recap. And then I'm going to give you

00:14:53.680 one, what do you want out of your life in 2022? Number two, what deficiencies do you have?
00:15:01.300 What practices or habits or vices are in the way and what skill sets and strategies do you need to
00:15:08.520 develop in order to have what you want? Number three, build your team out. Be deliberate and
00:15:13.900 intentional. Recruit as needed based on what you want and the deficiencies you have. Number four,
00:15:19.680 have a plan for execution. This is not a thinking exercise. This is a doing exercise. The thinking
00:15:26.500 leads to the doing. It doesn't stop at the thinking. So have a plan for execution and a plan for
00:15:31.820 communication with those who will be affected by the decisions you're making. And number five,
