You're a man of action. You live life to the fullest. Embrace your fears and boldly chart
00:00:04.980
your own path. When life knocks you down, you get back up one more time. Every time.
00:00:10.460
You are not easily deterred or defeated. Rugged. Resilient. Strong. This is your life. This is who
00:00:17.220
you are. This is who you will become. At the end of the day, and after all is said and done,
00:00:22.820
you can call yourself a man. What's up guys? This is Ryan Michler. I am the host and the
00:00:27.900
founder of this podcast and the order of man movement. I want to welcome you here and back
00:00:32.220
and maybe even to the podcast for the first time. If you're just tuning in and if that's
00:00:36.180
the case, I'm glad you're here. This is a podcast dedicated to giving men the tools and the
00:00:41.720
conversations, the resources and everything else they may need to step more fully into
00:00:45.880
who they have a desire to be as a man, whether that's fatherhood, being a more capable husband,
00:00:51.700
community leader, business owner, whatever facet of life you're showing up. It's my job
00:00:56.060
again, to give you those tools and resources to help you do exactly what you want to be
00:00:59.980
doing. And, uh, obviously we're at a critical crossroads for a lot of us with, uh, some
00:01:06.180
uncertainty and doubt and confusion, uh, and a lot of unknowns and variables about what's
00:01:11.700
happening in life right now. Uh, this is a perfect test and an opportunity to put everything
00:01:16.500
that we've been talking about over the past five years, uh, into practice and really set
00:01:20.860
ourselves and our families and loved ones up for, uh, success for opportunities that
00:01:25.940
will arise as this whole Corona virus thing, uh, begins to dwindle and die out, uh, like
00:01:31.800
it will, uh, eventually. And I know a lot of you are in the midst of things right now,
00:01:35.520
but, uh, there, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Uh, and if we can do the right
00:01:40.660
things now, and even leading up to this, if we can do those things now, uh, we're going
00:01:45.440
to be in that better, uh, of a position when things come. So today you get to hear from
00:01:49.660
me. I've got some thoughts on what it means to be a man. I've got some thoughts on what
00:01:53.760
one of our responsibilities is as men. Uh, and that is standing, uh, in front of, or
00:01:59.620
between, uh, our family and destruction. So I'm going to talk about what that is based
00:02:05.140
on a quote from a very good book that I highly suggest that you read. It's called manhood in
00:02:11.440
the making by David Gilmore. I'm going to talk a little bit more about that here in a
00:02:14.840
second. Uh, before I do just want to make a quick mention of two of our show sponsors.
00:02:20.320
So I'm going to go through these quick, since I'm introducing two to you today. Number one
00:02:23.940
is origin. Uh, these guys make rash guards, Brazilian jujitsu, geese, lifestyle apparel,
00:02:29.840
denim boots, all the things that I've been talking about, but they've shut down several
00:02:33.080
of their lines and they're making face masks. Uh, specifically, they just came out with a
00:02:37.920
new one, which is a denim mask, uh, very fitted to your face stretches and contorts as you
00:02:42.780
need it to, but seals nicely. Uh, and I know they've got some very large orders for these
00:02:47.360
things, but they're, they've made them available to the public as well. So if you go to origin,
00:02:52.180
main.com origin, main.com, you can check out the Delta mask. Uh, the other company I wanted
00:02:58.100
to introduce you to again, friends of mine, I only let friends be sponsors, people I know
00:03:02.660
like trust and that I actually use their products. Otherwise I'm just talking things that I have
00:03:07.360
no interest in. And therefore you might not have any interest in either. Uh, the, the second
00:03:11.900
company I want to introduce you to is Sorenix. Uh, these guys make world-class top-notch exercise
00:03:17.400
equipment, all 100% made in America. Uh, they just came out with a new rack. It's called the
00:03:23.400
off-grid rack. It's a very inexpensive, affordable solution for training at home, which I know a lot
00:03:30.120
of you guys are doing right now. And, uh, a hundred percent of the profits from the off-grid
00:03:34.800
rack are being donated to an organization called coaches versus COVID-19. Uh, the rack is, I want
00:03:41.560
to say right around $350, uh, connects directly to your wall. So if you have limited space,
00:03:46.980
it'll fit in there nicely, uh, and, uh, get the job done, which is ultimately what we needed
00:03:51.720
to do. So check it out. You can go to Sorenix.com S O R I N E X again, S O R I N E X.com. All right,
00:03:59.760
guys, let's get into the conversation. I want to start with a quote by David Gilmore. Again,
00:04:05.760
it comes from this book right here, uh, manhood in the making by David Gilmore. And it says,
00:04:10.960
here's the quote, the real man gains renown by standing between his family and destruction,
00:04:16.180
absorbing the blows of fate with equanimity. That's one of my favorite quotes. And it's really
00:04:22.040
stood out to me, uh, as, as a pretty good encapsulation of what it is that we're supposed
00:04:28.360
to be doing as family men, literally standing between our family and the destruction that they
00:04:34.560
may otherwise experience. So what is this destruction? It could be any number of things.
00:04:39.460
It could be financial catastrophe. It could be health related. It could be a crime or others,
00:04:45.420
uh, violent encounters. There's all sorts of things that it could be manifested as and represent
00:04:51.180
itself as it's our job to ensure that that doesn't happen. It's our job to ensure that we
00:04:56.580
have made ourselves skilled and strong and competent and capable in all ways. So that as these external
00:05:03.360
threats, uh, fall upon us and our families, we have the capability of dealing with the threat.
00:05:09.040
And then of course, neutralizing it. So I want to talk with you about, uh, talk with you about that
00:05:14.620
today. Um, we're going to talk about a couple of notes that I had taken down here, but really four
00:05:20.340
main strategies that you need to consider. And then we'll break down each one, uh, and talk about
00:05:25.000
what specifically you can be doing within each one of those categories. Uh, I had made a post, uh,
00:05:30.040
several days ago on Instagram and you know, Instagram, isn't the best place for in-depth
00:05:34.580
dissertations on certain subjects, obviously, because you're limited on the amount of information
00:05:39.700
that you can share on, on a post. That's why I like podcasting so much. Cause you can get
00:05:43.360
deeper into the subject. And every once in a while, I have somebody who says, you know, that's,
00:05:48.240
that's a pretty vague statement or that's real general, or, you know, why didn't you explain what
00:05:52.980
else we should be doing again? It's not the platform for it. So if you're feeling like that on
00:05:57.360
Instagram or Twitter or Facebook, then join us here on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts,
00:06:02.560
because we're going to drill down deeper into it. And that's exactly what I'm going to do
00:06:05.980
with you today. So it's not about pointing out problems. It's about coming up with the solutions
00:06:10.660
to the problems. And by the way, if you have additional comments, thoughts, ideas on what it
00:06:14.720
is I'm going to be addressing today, then drop those below. If you're watching on YouTube or hit me up
00:06:21.000
on Instagram or Twitter or Facebook, all at Ryan Michler. And let's continue the conversation
00:06:27.440
there. All right. So let's break this down into, I'm trying to think about how we want to do this
00:06:33.620
the best way. Let's break it down into four main categories. We'll call them four main categories
00:06:41.880
that you need to be concerned with when it comes to being the individual, the man who stands between
00:06:46.680
his family and potential destruction. It's going to be rough, you know, financially, physically,
00:06:53.060
maybe there's some health issues. There's, there's a lot of things that may come up that would keep us
00:06:57.740
from protecting our families and doing what we need to be doing. But in rough times really is where you
00:07:04.100
get to prove your worth as a man. And by the way, I know that ruffles a lot of feathers, prove your
00:07:08.680
worth as a man. Some people think you're just worthy because you showed up. Yeah. I would say you have
00:07:13.740
some human worth because you showed up because you're breathing, but ultimately what you do and
00:07:18.620
how you perform and how you show up is your measurement of being a man. It isn't something
00:07:24.020
that is just gifted to you. It's something that's earned and it's earned every day through your
00:07:28.200
ability to build up skillsets and resolve and training and provisions to be this kind of protector
00:07:35.060
that we've been talking about for the past five years. And frankly speaking, an individual, a man who
00:07:40.120
I should say a male who is not on the path to improving himself in these areas is less manly
00:07:45.920
than one who is. And again, that's not, that's not a, that's not a popular thought in, in, in popular
00:07:53.720
doctrine. But it's the truth. When shit hits the fan and things go wrong and there's a natural disaster
00:08:01.220
or an emergency or a global pandemic, people look to the men and they look to manly men. They don't
00:08:08.840
look to the weaklings, the cowards, the, uh, the men who are incapable. They look to the ones who
00:08:13.920
are capable, strong, resolute. Therefore we know that people are looking to manly men. So how do you
00:08:21.260
become more manly in this? Right? Here's how you do it. Four steps. Number one, some element of
00:08:25.980
prediction, right? You need to be able to anticipate what could potentially arise because if you're not
00:08:31.980
thinking about these things and what could potentially come up, you're just kind of walking around,
00:08:35.940
wandering around through life and whatever happens happens, and you will be less capable
00:08:40.640
of dealing with a situation when it arises. This is why we talk about a situational awareness.
00:08:46.420
For example, when you go into a restaurant, which not many of us are right now, but when you do go
00:08:51.780
into a restaurant, you should be sitting with your back against the wall. You should be looking at
00:08:56.360
escape routes. You should be looking at anything that's out of the ordinary. Uh, there's a great book
00:09:01.260
called left of bang that I would highly suggest that you guys read. Uh, the author's name escapes
00:09:07.080
me right now, but the book is called left of bang. So definitely check that out. But this is about
00:09:11.180
being situational, uh, situationally aware. And it's not about being paranoid. It's just about being
00:09:16.540
prepared. And there's little things that you can do, uh, when you go into public or when you go into
00:09:21.420
a restaurant, like sitting with your back against the wall. So you can see everything. There's little
00:09:25.100
things that you can do that aren't going to rule your life. In fact, they're not going to take
00:09:29.820
any more time to do to implement. It's just going to put you in a potentially better situation.
00:09:35.260
Now, as your backs against the wall and you're in a restaurant, we're just using this as an example.
00:09:39.740
What are you doing? You're scanning. You're looking for potential threats. You're looking
00:09:42.860
for things that are out of the ordinary that, that go against what the baseline of the mood is.
00:09:47.420
They talk about that in the book, left of bang. You're doing that because you don't want to be
00:09:51.980
caught off guard. And I can't tell you how often I hear from men who say things like, oh,
00:09:56.860
I didn't even see it coming or I was caught off guard. Well, that means that you weren't
00:10:01.180
anticipating it. You weren't thinking about it. You weren't scanning your environment
00:10:05.500
to consider what could potentially go wrong. And again, if you're not doing that,
00:10:09.580
if you're not anticipating, okay, what could potentially come up that would be a threat to me,
00:10:14.220
my family and my loved ones, then you will get caught off guard. You will find yourself wanting
00:10:19.340
when there's a violent encounter or a financial catastrophe or a global pandemic or some sort of health
00:10:25.900
situation that you or a family member is dealing with. I don't want you to be caught off guard.
00:10:30.300
And the best way to avoid that happening is to learn, to predict and anticipate what could
00:10:36.060
potentially go wrong. Now we're problem solvers by design. Human beings in general are looking for
00:10:42.460
problems because those problems represent a threat, but you can hone this skill. And that's what you
00:10:48.860
should be doing. It's a skillset. You should be able to develop and articulate and get better and
00:10:55.500
more efficient at predicting what could potentially go wrong. So look for those scenarios. I would also
00:11:01.660
suggest that you surround yourself with individuals who, who know about these things and they can point
00:11:08.060
out what you should be looking for, whether that's law enforcement, military, first responders,
00:11:13.900
in a lot of ways, other first responders. There's courses and programs and things that you can take online
00:11:20.380
and live when that starts opening up once again, where you can actually participate in some of these
00:11:24.700
things. Uh, Tim Kennedy's organization, sheepdog response has some great programs that are centered
00:11:31.260
around situational awareness and how to deal with crisis and how to handle these things. And so you can
00:11:36.540
train your ability to scan for threats and look at what's going wrong. So what I want you to do,
00:11:41.900
and we'll just break this into steps, I guess you'd say is whenever you're in an environment, whether it's
00:11:49.100
your office or a new environment, like a restaurant or a movie theater, or just out in public at the grocery
00:11:54.780
store, or even in your car. I mean, I've seen videos where, uh, people get carjacked because they weren't
00:12:01.180
scanning their surroundings. When they were at a bank teller, for example, you need to anticipate, Hey, if I was a
00:12:06.860
criminal and I wanted to take advantage of individuals, what would I do? Put yourself in their
00:12:11.180
shoes and you'll be able to react accordingly. All right. So, so that's number one. Number two is
00:12:17.980
training. All right. You started to work on the prediction, the anticipation of what could potentially
00:12:22.220
go wrong. Now we get into training and there's a lot of different training that you can get involved
00:12:27.420
in. There's boxing and there's wrestling and there's jujitsu and there's crab and there's Muay Thai.
00:12:31.740
And there's all these other, uh, these other arts that you could get into. Okay. And yeah,
00:12:37.500
there's probably some that are better than others. I would say that wrestling and jujitsu are strong
00:12:42.700
skills to have some sort of striking. If you end up having to get into an altercation, obviously the
00:12:48.380
goal is not to get into that position. That's why we talk about prediction is being step number one,
00:12:53.100
but you, you ought to be training your body as a weapon. Yes. Physicality. Yes. Strength. Yes.
00:12:59.180
Stamina, losing weight, getting strong, building up your cardio. All of that is very, very important.
00:13:03.820
And that's an element of training. So if you aren't doing that every single day, then you probably
00:13:08.780
ought to consider what you can do to start moving your body and gaining some flexibility and building
00:13:14.940
your muscle strength. Those are important things. And then on top of that, you should be training your
00:13:20.060
body as a weapon. How do you throw a punch? How do you, how do you take a punch? Uh, if, if something
00:13:26.060
goes to the ground, how do you engage and then disengage, these things are very, very important.
00:13:31.820
And by the way, they're not wasted efforts. So if you end up never getting in a fight,
00:13:36.060
congratulations, that's, that's a good thing, but you're going to learn so much more about yourself
00:13:41.900
and frankly, life because jujitsu, wrestling, boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, all of these things
00:13:48.460
are metaphors for life, strength, grit, fortitude, doing things when you don't want to learning how to
00:13:54.140
win, learning how to lose, uh, learning to be creative. These things apply in other facets of
00:13:58.940
your life. So it isn't wasted effort if you happen to never use it, which I would say, congratulations,
00:14:04.460
but again, it's not wasted. So look at martial arts strength training, uh, is, is very powerful,
00:14:11.100
obviously, uh, cause that's going to help you get strong and be capable and be able to lift a car hood
00:14:15.660
off your wife. If that's the case, you get into an accident or something like that. Uh, I would
00:14:19.100
recommend starting strength as a, as a good resource, uh, for, for building strength.
00:14:24.220
Um, but there's many other programs. I'm using one right now called mountain tough fitness,
00:14:28.620
uh, which is not a strength training program, but it's specifically, uh, designed for, uh,
00:14:35.420
outdoorsmen, specifically hunters. Now it's called mountain tough fitness, uh, which is what I'm going
00:14:40.140
through right now. So you can check that out as well, but there's a lot out there. Uh, the other thing
00:14:44.620
I would say, I'm just checking a couple of things off here. So I stay on, on top of this
00:14:48.780
is resourcefulness. All right. Resourcefulness is such an important skill to have. And it's some,
00:14:53.980
something that you really need to be training. It's amazing to me how often I will see a man who
00:14:58.780
doesn't have a certain provision or something's not perfect. And it's like a roadblock. It's a barrier.
00:15:04.060
It keeps him from doing what he wants to do because he sees this one little obstacle that frankly
00:15:09.260
shouldn't derail him or keep him from driving on. You need to be resourceful. You need to look for
00:15:14.380
opportunities. You need to look for ways to be creative in, in overcoming some of these obstacles
00:15:21.420
that you may deal with. Uh, I, I, for example, like woodworking, that's one of my hobbies and one
00:15:27.580
of my activities. And what I really enjoy doing with woodworking is salvaging and reclaiming old
00:15:35.740
wood, uh, old projects, and then repurposing them for what it is that I need. So for example,
00:15:41.740
uh, right now I've got my computer here, my mic and everything, it's set up and hooked up and sitting
00:15:46.860
on my podcast desk, which happens to be a, uh, barn stall door that I was, that I found in the basement
00:15:55.500
of our barn when we moved into this property. So I grabbed it out, cleaned it up, took all the hardware
00:16:00.620
off, cleaned all that up, shined it up, got it looking good. I've got a great right here, which you can't see,
00:16:06.140
but it's just sitting right here. And that's the, the stall door. It's the, the great, uh,
00:16:11.260
and I'm going to get a piece of glass and I'm going to put it over that. I built a steel pipe
00:16:16.460
frame for it. So again, repurposing this to make it functional for what I need. These shelves behind
00:16:22.460
me, that was an old piece of wood that I was found again in the, uh, the barn basement that I cut,
00:16:28.860
I cleaned, I finished and brought them in here and you can see, I got them hooked up. Uh, there's
00:16:35.340
other things as well. You know, I'm, I'm, I'm constantly looking for, like, I have a couple of
00:16:39.420
desks that I made for my boys there. Uh, they were old shop desks. They were here again. I broke
00:16:44.220
them apart, cut them down, changed them, tweaked them, adapt them. And I made it, made one for, uh,
00:16:50.060
my sons, each of my two oldest sons, Lego tables. So like I'm repurposing that stuff that helps me be
00:16:56.460
resourceful guys. Resourcefulness is a very, very powerful skill that you can develop. And if you
00:17:02.220
feel yourself getting hung up and snagged up on projects and tasks and things that you need to do,
00:17:07.020
then maybe you're not as resourceful as you could be. Another great example is in the fitness world.
00:17:11.340
So many guys talk to me about, I don't have a gym. It's like, well, who said you need a gym? I mean,
00:17:15.900
a gym is nice, but you don't need a gym to get strong. You can have a tire. Uh, and people say,
00:17:21.500
well, you need, you know, you need a box to step on. Well, I have a tire. So like, I mean,
00:17:25.580
a box would be great, but I have a tire, so I can hit that with a sledgehammer. I can lift it up,
00:17:31.580
set it down. I can roll it up Hills. Uh, I can jump on it. Like I would a box. It's about being
00:17:37.420
resourceful. Use what you have to create solutions for you and your family's problems. That's a skill
00:17:44.780
that can be developed. Uh, another thing, firearms, are you training firearms? Look, you don't have to
00:17:50.700
like firearms. You don't have to own a firearm. I would actually suggest that you do.
00:17:55.100
That's a good thing. It's a healthy thing. Hopefully you'll never have to use it, but
00:17:58.940
it would be nice to have it in case you, you, you had to use it. Uh, but are you doing firearms
00:18:04.060
training? Are you shooting your guns? Uh, are you taking instruction? Are you learning what you need
00:18:07.820
to learn about that? And even now there's online courses that you can take, and then you can go out
00:18:11.740
to a shooting range or go out to a field or go out in your yard. If you have space and you can,
00:18:17.980
you can train. It's very, very important. Uh, I think it was Archie Locus who said,
00:18:22.540
we don't rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training. So we, as men
00:18:29.180
have these egos at times, and they serve us in some ways, in a lot of ways, they actually serve us.
00:18:35.180
Uh, but at the same time, they keep us, keep us back and keep us from training and doing the
00:18:39.100
things that we should be doing. Uh, we believe that in a crisis will by default step into that
00:18:44.700
crisis because we saw Jason Bourne or James Bond do it on a movie somewhere. Guys, it doesn't work
00:18:49.340
like that unless you're training and getting the repetition and being exposed as closely as you can
00:18:55.260
to real world scenarios. Uh, Tony Blower, a friend of mine with, uh, with no fear, uh,
00:19:01.420
he, he does no fear podcast. Uh, but he, he's talked a lot about this and he's got courses and
00:19:06.460
programs and offerings available for you to deal with these types of threats. When those situations
00:19:11.820
arise, if you aren't training this stuff, you aren't going to step up to the plate.
00:19:15.980
You just aren't. And you're going to put yourself and your loved ones in compromising situations.
00:19:20.700
I don't want that to happen. So make sure you're training firearms. You're training martial arts,
00:19:24.860
your strength training. You're looking at becoming more resourceful. And the last one I wrote here,
00:19:29.180
and of course this isn't an exhaustive list, but the last thing I wrote down on here is wilderness
00:19:34.380
survival. Can you survive in the wilderness? What's your skillset in the wilderness? Can you start a fire?
00:19:39.900
Can you find water? Can you do some land navigation to find out where you are? Can you read a map?
00:19:45.340
Can you use a compass? Uh, can you set up a shelter? Can you start a fire? I think I already said that
00:19:50.780
one. These are all skills that would be very, very important to know, to understand, and to be able
00:19:56.940
to utilize. And by the way, this, this part can be fun, especially if you have kids, because you can go
00:20:01.820
out in the yard and you go camping with the kids and not even bring a tent and see if you can set up a
00:20:06.300
shelter. Uh, you can build a fire or have a fire building competition with them. Uh, you can learn to
00:20:12.860
hunt. That's another skillset that I would say is worthy of developing. Uh, you can teach them how
00:20:17.900
to cook that food, even on an open fire at a camp out. These are all valuable, valuable skills to have,
00:20:23.340
and you can make it fun for you and your wife and your kids. It's a good thing. And it trains you and
00:20:28.380
it trains them. So if you aren't having some sort of wilderness survival, uh, in, in your regiment,
00:20:33.580
uh, of training and being prepared, then you're selling yourself short. I'm trying to give you as
00:20:38.060
many resources as I can. Uh, I would say Creek Stewart, uh, is a great resource on wilderness
00:20:43.260
survival. And of course there's plenty more, but that's where I would start. All right. That's the
00:20:48.060
training component. Again, that wasn't an exhaustive list, but I went through martial arts, firearms,
00:20:52.700
resourcefulness, uh, wilderness, survival, and strength training, physical training of some sort.
00:20:57.980
All right. So now we're predicting, right? We're anticipating and looking for threats and what could
00:21:03.500
potentially go wrong. Uh, we've trained ourselves or we are in the process of training ourselves to
00:21:09.100
deal with those threats that we may have to deal with. The next component of this is provisions,
00:21:15.340
right? We've got prediction, we've got training, and now we've got provisions. You have to have
00:21:20.380
provisions. Okay. These are financial provisions. This is food storage. This is firearms. These are
00:21:26.460
ammunition. This is a bug out bag, a bug in bag. If you don't have these provisions taken care of,
00:21:33.180
man, you're going to find yourself in a bad, bad situation. So when it comes to food storage,
00:21:38.460
if you didn't have any food, all right, the grocery stores are closed, which we're kind
00:21:42.140
of experiencing, they may not be closed, but access to grocery stores is limited and access to food is
00:21:46.780
increasingly limited as well. So how much do you have in your house? Can you survive for a month,
00:21:51.820
six months, a year? That's something to consider, right? We try to get to a year, 12 months of food
00:21:58.780
storage. Now I'm not saying we're going to eat like Kings for 12 months. Of course not.
00:22:02.940
But we would, it would, we'd be able to survive for 12 months. And you should have that level of
00:22:07.580
provisions. And it's not difficult. I'm not telling you that you need to go spend $5,000
00:22:12.220
or $10,000 or whatever you'd need to spend. But each time you go to the grocery store,
00:22:17.100
or you buy food of some sort, just spend an extra 10, 15, $20 and buy three or four cans of tuna or
00:22:24.300
other non-perishable items. Maybe it's fruit in a can, like buy these things and spend an extra $20
00:22:30.700
each time you go to the store. And you'll notice yourself over the course of several months,
00:22:34.620
really building up something that not only can you be proud of, but that you can rely on. And then you
00:22:40.540
can take comfort in knowing that you are doing your job as a man. So when it comes to provisions,
00:22:45.980
I would highly suggest that you go in right now and you start to inventory your, your provisions.
00:22:53.020
What do you currently have? What do you need? And then how do you build that up? Also financially,
00:22:58.060
I mean, how many people have dealt with some real financial hardships right now? I mean, so much so
00:23:03.980
that this $1,200 is, is quite literally saving them the $1,200 we're getting back of our own money
00:23:10.860
or other people's money from, from the government. It's like, look, if it's going to help you, then
00:23:17.260
by all means, I mean, good. I hope it does. I hope you can make your mortgage payment or put some,
00:23:21.420
some groceries on the table and some food in your, your kids and wife's belly. But look,
00:23:25.500
if you aren't getting your financial house in order, like shame on you, shame on you. I know
00:23:30.460
that sounds harsh. I know that's going to rub people the wrong way, but really like if you,
00:23:35.340
if your financial house isn't in order, please use this moment in time as a wake-up call to get your
00:23:42.460
shit together. I spent almost 10 years as a financial advisor, and I can't tell you how many people I met
00:23:48.300
with who were living paycheck to paycheck. They were literally a week or less away from being broke.
00:23:56.540
Come on, we can do better than that. Most of us have, have got into debt that we shouldn't get into.
00:24:03.180
Most people don't track their income and expenses. Most people aren't making as much as they should be
00:24:08.460
making because they aren't developing new skills or, or making themselves more equipped and more
00:24:14.380
capable to earn a higher income. And it's sad. It's sad. I get it. I've been there,
00:24:19.180
but I worked myself out of that position and you need to be working yourself out of that position as
00:24:23.740
well. Learn to provide value, offer a skillset, uh, learn to charge and ask people to pay for your
00:24:30.380
goods and your services and products. Learn how to sell, learn how to market. All of these things are
00:24:34.940
very important when it comes to a career, but also are you setting money aside? Are you spending every
00:24:39.820
dollar that you earn? If you don't have six months of expenses, I'm not talking about income. I'm
00:24:45.820
talking about expenses. If your monthly expenses are three or four or $5,000 a month, then you need
00:24:50.940
six times that set aside some in cash, some in the bank, uh, to be able to handle being out of work for
00:24:58.220
six months. Like the people who have done this aren't as concerned as those who haven't during this
00:25:04.300
situation. And if you're frantic and you're running around like a chicken with his head cut off,
00:25:08.540
uh, and you're nervous and you're scared and you're upset about the financial situation, like how in
00:25:13.020
the world are you going to be able to protect and provide and preside for your family? You're not. So
00:25:19.420
fix it, fix it. Now, granted, now might not be the time because you may not have any income coming
00:25:25.180
in, but you can certainly track your income. You can certainly track your expenses. You can start
00:25:29.820
certainly start listening to podcasts that are specifically financially related. Maybe there's a
00:25:33.900
course that you can look on online programs that are even free in many cases where you can start
00:25:38.300
to get some financial literacy. So you can get yourself out of the hole that you dug yourself
00:25:42.380
into is critical that we do this very, very important. Uh, I talked about resourcefulness,
00:25:48.540
also firearms and ammunition. Like if you don't have a firearm in your house, maybe you ought to
00:25:52.940
consider having a firearm in your house. I would have it secured and locked up and have training for
00:25:57.100
you and your wife and your children, if they're old enough. Uh, and then of course the accompanying
00:26:01.420
accompanying ammunition. I mean, if you've got, you've got your Glock, your nine millimeters sitting on the
00:26:05.900
shelf and you have, you know, 20 rounds of nine millimeter and that's it. Well, okay, great.
00:26:11.260
What are you going to do? And that's all gone. Right. Also having a rifle, you got to have a rifle.
00:26:16.300
I think every man should have a rifle so that if he has to go out into the wilderness and hunt,
00:26:20.780
and by the way, I'm not saying anybody should break any sort of hunting laws or, or wilderness
00:26:25.900
laws, anything like that. But look, if, if we're in a bad situation, like if things get really,
00:26:31.180
really bad and you can't kill an animal to, to, uh, to feed your family, like shame, what a shame.
00:26:40.060
That's a bad deal. Now, some people say, oh, it's never going to get that bad. Well,
00:26:43.980
how do you know? You don't know, right? All these people that talk about anti-hunting are like, well,
00:26:49.260
why don't you just go to the grocery store like a normal human being? Well, now we're learning that
00:26:53.340
some grocery stores are closed. Provisions aren't available as they once were. And all of a sudden,
00:26:58.060
these people who know how to hunt and have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of pounds
00:27:02.620
of meat in the freezer from animals they harvested are actually not looking so insane to these people
00:27:09.420
who otherwise wouldn't, uh, you're, you're putting yourself in compromising situation situations.
00:27:15.420
Excuse me. You need to make sure that you have these provisions taken care of. And part of that is
00:27:19.500
firearms, ammunition, learning how to hunt that would fall under the training component, food storage,
00:27:24.540
financial resources. And if you're prepared, you don't need to fear, right? You don't need to be
00:27:30.620
so concerned. You don't need to make rash decisions. You're prepared. You're ready. This is what men need
00:27:35.340
to be so they can stand again between themselves and destruction of their family. This is your job.
00:27:40.140
And this is the outline and the framework and the roadmap to be able to do it. All right. And the last
00:27:45.420
component, this is the fourth component. So we've got prediction, anticipation, step number two,
00:27:49.980
training, and these aren't in order. All right. These all go together simultaneously. The third
00:27:54.060
one is building up your provisions. And the fourth one is your strategies, right? Do you have strategies
00:27:59.740
in place? If there's a natural disaster, how are you going to handle that? If the road, if this road
00:28:04.940
that you're used to traveling on, your family's used to traveling on is closed or shut down or
00:28:09.900
unaccessible, then how do you get home or wherever you need to go? If somebody, an intruder breaks into your
00:28:14.860
house, what is your protocol? What is your system for being able to deal with that? If there's
00:28:19.900
a fire in the home, do you have rallying points for your family, both inside and outside? And by
00:28:24.380
the way, do they know these things? If they don't, if you know them and they don't know them, it's
00:28:28.140
useless. Like you have to clue them in on what's going on. You're running drilling scenarios. You have
00:28:34.060
rallying points. If you guys become separated, let's say you're at work or somewhere out in public
00:28:39.500
and your family's at home, and there's, there's some sort of catastrophic event. How do you get home
00:28:45.180
and where are you going to meet? If cell phone towers are down and you can't call them on the phone,
00:28:49.500
what are you going to do? How do you contact them? How do you get ahold of them? And where do you go?
00:28:53.740
Where do they go? These are the kinds of conversations and strategies that you need to
00:28:57.500
be planning for. These are the scenarios that you need to think out when it comes to prediction
00:29:01.180
and anticipation, because if you start predicting what could potentially go wrong, then you build in
00:29:06.220
the strategy that needs to be built in according so that you can accomplish what it is that you're
00:29:12.700
meant to accomplish. So look at these things, emergency escapes, rallying points. If there's natural
00:29:17.980
disasters, do you have a bug in bag? Do you have a bug out bag? If you have to go somewhere,
00:29:22.380
where are you going? Where have you stored stuff? Is there, is there certain places that you can go
00:29:27.020
where you can get provisions? Should you need them down the road? A lot of people tend to look at this
00:29:32.140
and think, well, this is like alarmist thinking. Maybe, maybe I'm thinking of, of catastrophe. Maybe
00:29:38.540
I'm thinking of worst case scenario. Maybe nothing like this ever happens, but isn't it good to be
00:29:44.140
prepared just in case it does? I mean, I think this is a real wake up call to realize for many
00:29:50.380
Americans and frankly, people across the planet that they aren't adequately prepared for these
00:29:56.300
things. They don't have the financial resources. They don't have the skill sets. They don't have
00:30:00.140
the training. Uh, and there are a lot of people who are very, very concerned about their ability to
00:30:06.380
stay alive. And frankly, there's a lot of people who should be concerned about it because we're finding
00:30:10.700
out that these people are not as capable as they could be. And it could be you by the way. And it
00:30:15.020
could be me. There's things that I need to shore up on my end too, because I wanted to share this
00:30:19.340
with you because I don't want to just show problems. I don't want to talk about all the things that are
00:30:24.860
wrong. I want you to actively work towards solving the problems, addressing the problems and doing
00:30:30.620
something in a meaningful and significant way so that you can be that type of protector who stands
00:30:35.260
between his family and destruction. Again, the quote, I'll pull it up here. The real man gains
00:30:40.300
renown by standing between his family and destruction, absorbing the blows of fate with
00:30:46.300
equanimity guys. That is your role. That is your responsibility. If you're looking for a great book,
00:30:52.380
this is a good one right here. Manhood in the making. I will suggest that it's not, uh,
00:30:56.940
it's not an easy read. Uh, but basically, uh, this, this gentleman, uh, studied and researched,
00:31:05.420
different cultures throughout much of time in history to, uh, get an idea of what they believed
00:31:11.660
masculinity was. And there's striking similarities between most coach cultures throughout all of
00:31:16.460
history. Some cultures not even being introduced to each other, which suggests that maybe masculinity
00:31:21.500
isn't a social construct like popular doctrine would have you believe, but that it's a biological
00:31:27.980
construct and it's supported societally supported by the people because it works. So as you can see,
00:31:35.740
I don't, well, maybe you can't see, but I've got this thing tabbed up highlighted. Um, it's, uh,
00:31:41.660
there's just, there's just so much great information in here. So again, the books, manhood turned out a
00:31:45.980
little bit because the lighting manhood in the making by David Gilmore. Uh, again, your job is
00:31:51.100
to stand between your family and destruction with equanimity, which by the way, means mental calmness.
00:31:57.500
How do you maintain mental calmness? You get better at predicting and anticipating what,
00:32:02.780
what could potentially arise. You train for these scenarios that you've identified.
00:32:07.340
You have the provisions on hand necessary to deal with them. And then you develop the strategies that you
00:32:12.540
and your family will utilize to keep yourself safe, protected and thriving. All right, guys,
00:32:17.580
that's all I've got for you today. I'm going to be back with, uh, Jack Carr, I believe is our
00:32:22.460
interview next week on Tuesday. Uh, he just finished up and released or will be releasing on April 14th,
00:32:28.140
his newest book, which is called Savage son, the third installment of the James Reese series.
00:32:32.460
So that's Mr. Jack Carr, former Navy seal and, uh, incredible author. And I believe that the
00:32:38.060
James Reese series is now being made into either a TV show or a TV series. So be on the lookout for
00:32:43.500
that as well, but that'll be with Jack Carr. And then of course we've got our other podcasts
00:32:47.100
throughout the week, gentlemen, I'm glad that you're here. Um, I would also suggest that you
00:32:51.340
look into our exclusive brotherhood, the iron council, which is a digital band of brothers,
00:32:56.140
500 plus men, all working towards objectives. And, uh, these types of things, even that we talked about
00:33:02.460
today and we're holding each other accountable to ensure that we're doing what we said is important.
00:33:08.060
So guys, I'll let you get going. Uh, and we'll be back on Tuesday, but until then go out there,
00:33:12.140
take action and become the man you are meant to be. Thank you for listening to the order of man
00:33:16.860
