00:00:00.000 If you follow the UFC at all, you know exactly who my guest is today. His name is TJ Dillashaw,
00:00:05.660 and he is the current UFC bantamweight champion and is fighting this weekend for the UFC flyweight
00:00:11.780 championship. Today, we talk about what it means to fight for a living, where loyalties should lie,
00:00:17.380 how to optimize all factors of your health, and how to develop the fighter's mindset.
00:00:23.340 You're a man of action. You live life to the fullest. Embrace your fears and boldly
00:00:27.780 charts your own path. When life knocks you down, you get back up one more time, every time. You
00:00:33.640 are not easily deterred or defeated, rugged, resilient, strong. This is your life. This is
00:00:40.120 who you are. This is who you will become. At the end of the day, and after all is said and done,
00:00:45.840 you can call yourself a man. Gentlemen, what is going on today? My name is Ryan Mickler,
00:00:51.540 and I am the host and the founder of this podcast, The Order of Man, and frankly, the movement. And
00:00:56.420 it is a movement, guys. We are expanding the entire planet. We continue to see growth in the
00:01:00.940 podcast. We continue to see growth on our social media accounts and website and all the places
00:01:06.580 that we are. And obviously, that couldn't be done without you. I'm glad that this movement is growing
00:01:10.800 and we are doing what we're doing. It's much needed. The APA, American Psychology Association,
00:01:16.640 just came out with a quasi-study. I say quasi, I should say pseudo-study because it's not really
00:01:23.080 backed in science. And what it had said is that, frankly, traditional masculinity is a problem. It
00:01:30.360 is what's wrong with the world today. And obviously, we know that's not the case. It's my job to debunk
00:01:35.680 some of that and to talk about what really is the problem, which is a lack of masculinity. And to that
00:01:41.320 end, my goal is to bring these conversations to you, have conversations with powerful, powerful men,
00:01:47.320 guys like Chris Hogan, Andy Frisilla, Grant Cardone, Tim Kennedy, Jocko Willink. The list goes on and on,
00:01:53.120 including my guest today, the one and only TJ Dillashaw, which I'm really excited, needless to
00:01:57.820 say, to introduce to you. And I know a lot of you guys are familiar with him already. Now, before I
00:02:02.640 get to that conversation, I do want to make a quick mention of my friends and show sponsors.
00:02:07.600 The first is Origin. These guys are making some incredible products, lifestyle apparel,
00:02:12.960 Brazilian jiu-jitsu geese and rash guards. And then they've got their supplemental lineup
00:02:16.540 partnered up with Jocko. It's the Joint Warfare. It's the Super Krill. It's the Mulk. And they've
00:02:22.240 got a bunch of new flavors. It's their Discipline Go, which is something that I've been using quite
00:02:26.800 a bit lately, but they've got some amazing, amazing products and the best part, 100% made
00:02:31.080 in America. These are friends of mine. I've been to not only their current factory, but their new
00:02:35.480 facility. They just opened up a couple of weeks ago. So they're running an incredible organization.
00:02:39.780 I want to give you guys a discount on any of their products. That's their lifestyle apparel,
00:02:43.620 hoodies, jeans, rash guards, geese, and then of course the supplemental lineup. If you go to
00:02:48.480 originmain.com, originmain.com and you use the code ORDER, O-R-D-E-R at checkout, order at
00:02:55.260 originmain.com, you'll get a discount over there. So go ahead and take care of that. In addition to
00:03:00.160 that, Soren X equipment, again, 100% made in America. They're making all sorts of exercise and
00:03:06.220 workout equipment. In fact, they are the premier equipment manufacturer for bars and squat and weight
00:03:13.500 racks and the center mass bells, which I've talked with you guys quite a bit about. I actually had
00:03:18.000 the privilege of hunting with Bert Soren, the president and CEO of Soren X just this last week.
00:03:24.280 And I can tell you, he's an incredible guy. We've been friends for a little while now. It's good to
00:03:27.280 connect with him on a hunt. He told me a little bit more about their story and how they originally
00:03:32.000 started and what they're up to and the innovations they've made in the industry. So if you are looking
00:03:35.960 for exercise and workout equipment, go see what these guys are doing. It's absolutely amazing. And some of the
00:03:41.140 teams that they work with on the college and professional level is, it's amazing what they
00:03:46.000 create. So head to Soren X S O R I N E X S O R I N E X.com and check it out there. All right, guys,
00:03:53.600 with that said, I want to introduce you to my guests. So excited about this. You guys will have to forgive
00:03:59.120 the sound a little bit. I was on a hunt. Like I had mentioned before, TJ reached out to me and said,
00:04:03.420 he's got this very, very small window to be able to meet before he left for fight week leading up to
00:04:08.740 his flyweight championship bout. So I moved some things around. I made some quick changes and
00:04:14.920 made sure that we got this done. So I had to head into a little small diner where we were hunting and
00:04:20.120 just did that right there in the diner. So you may hear some background noise, but either way,
00:04:23.900 this is a powerful, powerful conversation. And if you don't know who TJ is, he's, like I said before,
00:04:29.120 the UFC bantamweight champion. I've been following TJ for years. He's one of my favorite fighters because
00:04:34.400 of the passion and the level of discipline that this guy possesses. It's absolutely inspiring and
00:04:40.280 unbelievable, which is probably why he's been so successful as a fighter. In fact, I think he's
00:04:44.580 arguably one of the best pound for pound fighters in the UFC today. So guys, I hope you enjoy this
00:04:49.300 one. Let it inspire you the way that TJ has certainly inspired me. TJ, what's up, man? Thanks for joining
00:04:56.220 me. Oh, absolutely, man. Thanks for having me on. Yeah, you bet. I know it's kind of crunch time.
00:05:00.020 You've got fight week next week. You've got a big fight coming up. What, the 19th, right?
00:05:05.180 Yeah. Yeah. 19th. Yeah. It's going to be awesome. How are you feeling about it?
00:05:08.080 So I'm over here. It's off my face as I'm losing weight at the same time. It's quite amazing.
00:05:12.400 Yeah. That's amazing how you can do that. The diet, right? I'm sure it's pretty intense.
00:05:17.340 There's a lot that goes into it, man. It's been a 12-week process of me bringing my weight down,
00:05:21.960 you know, and doing it very smart. I'm actually closer to weight now, this far out to 125s than I would
00:05:28.460 be at 135s just because I've taken it so serious and that, you know, this will be the first time
00:05:33.360 me fighting 125s. So I just want to make sure I'm crossing all my T's and all my I's and doing it the
00:05:38.220 right way, man. Yeah. Because the way I understand it is even if you don't hit 125, you still fight,
00:05:43.880 but then it's no longer a championship fight. Is that right? Yeah. The fight only makes sense for
00:05:48.040 me if we're fighting for the belt, man. I'm coming for that belt. I'm making the weight. He better make
00:05:52.380 the weight. I'll be pissed. I'll let him be 10 pounds over and I'll still fight for the belt. I don't even care.
00:05:56.740 Yeah. So what made you want to go down? Because you're going down, what, 10 pounds? Is it 10
00:06:00.540 pounds? Yeah, I'm dropping down 10 pounds. It was first being talked about when Demetrius Johnson
00:06:04.940 didn't have a fight lined up and he had a record-breaking title set, 10 consecutive title
00:06:10.140 defenses. He was going to break history, this and that. Yeah. Well, Cody, the guy I was supposed to
00:06:14.460 fight, dropped out of his fight. So I told Dana, like, look, I want to fight for the belt. I'll drop to
00:06:18.500 25s. I'll stop Demetrius from breaking the record. He loved it. Tried setting it up, but Demetrius was scared.
00:06:23.400 Demetrius was number one pound-for-pound fighter at the time. Yeah. And I've always known that I
00:06:28.100 can make the weight, especially after meeting my new strength conditioning slash nutritionist
00:06:32.220 coach, Sam Calvita, out of the training lab. I knew the 25s was possible. I'm not like a big 130. I
00:06:38.120 mean, I can be a big 135er if I want to be, but I'm not. I was walking around at low 50s naturally
00:06:44.100 before I even started to even think about weight when I was fighting 35s. Right.
00:06:48.280 It wasn't even that bad at all. And so I knew it was possible. And so I don't know, man, just something
00:06:53.080 intriguing. Obviously, getting that second belt, continuing to grow my name to be the best, greatest
00:06:57.860 fighter of all time, and just to show everyone how professional I am. You know, this isn't an easy
00:07:02.640 thing to do, but I'm doing it the right way. I'm going to come out and be in my strength to weight
00:07:07.060 ratio right now is insane, even just my strength in general. But yesterday was one of my last hard
00:07:11.640 strength conditioning days, and I lifted heavier than I was at 135s, and I'm lighter. So really?
00:07:17.780 Not only is my weight going down, but my strength is going up. So my strength to weight ratio is
00:07:21.260 amazing. And I owe it all to Sam Calvita at the training lab, man. He's a straight up scientist.
00:07:27.220 What's changed? Like on a tactical level, what's changed to help you get stronger than you've been
00:07:30.980 in the past? You mean stronger than just my last couple of camps?
00:07:33.940 Right, right. Because you're talking about strength to weight ratio. So for your weight,
00:07:37.260 you're stronger than you've been in the past. So like, what is it that's changed in your training
00:07:41.360 that's helped you get to that point? Yeah, I always talk about Sam, but he's got it all mapped out,
00:07:44.900 you know, and I think it's the work that I've had to put in to get my weight down.
00:07:47.780 Yeah. And how consistent I've had to stay. And my diet has been insane. I'm grain free. I'm in
00:07:53.420 and out of ketosis. I don't stay in ketosis, and I don't stay on a perfect ketosis diet because
00:07:58.360 I don't feel it's healthy, and I don't think it's great for an athlete. But I do come in and out of
00:08:02.920 it. And just being on that strict diet, being on that strict supplementation, and sticking to the
00:08:08.140 program. And now I've been with the guy for two and a half years now, and I've just continued to get
00:08:13.200 stronger. We really don't take down times. The first Cody fight, I felt great and strong. The second
00:08:17.560 one, I was even stronger. Yeah, I mean, you look solid in both fights, for sure.
00:08:20.980 Yeah, man. And so now I'm, I don't know, man, just sticking to the plan and not ever veering off of
00:08:25.320 it. That's actually a really good point, because I think a lot of people, they bounce from program
00:08:28.760 to program, nutrition, you know, diet to diet. And they think that if they can bounce around to the
00:08:33.120 next greatest thing, that somehow that's going to be better for them, rather than just consistently
00:08:36.640 maintaining one course of action. Yeah, as long as it is something that seems smart, I mean,
00:08:41.360 you can follow the dumbest plan ever, and it's not going to help you out. True,
00:08:44.000 yeah. It's got to produce results, right? Exactly. It's got to produce results and stay
00:08:47.340 consistent, you know? But I say that, but then my diet plan, like I said, like I'm bouncing in and
00:08:52.520 out of ketosis. I'm doing different kinds of workouts. So I guess I am bouncing from plan to
00:08:57.980 plan, but it's all underneath one plan. Sure. If that makes sense. Yeah. It's just a tactic of the
00:09:03.240 overall strategy. Yeah. Like if you want to lose a bunch of body fat and be lean, man, being keto is
00:09:08.620 awesome. Sure. Yeah. But that's not going to help you to fight. Yeah. I need, I need the simple carbs.
00:09:13.300 I need carbs for energy. I don't need any complex carbs. I don't need grains. I don't need complex
00:09:18.400 sugars, you know, but I eat sugar from fruit. I eat carbs from simple carbs, things like that,
00:09:24.100 that are going to continue to help boost my testosterone and not hinder my performance.
00:09:28.760 Yeah. Yeah. Are you feeling good about the fight? I mean, this is going to be an interesting one
00:09:31.780 because you guys are both wrestlers. I mean, you're going up against somebody who's an Olympic athlete
00:09:36.280 and you've got that wrestling background too. So it should be really interesting.
00:09:39.440 I'm interested to show what MMA wrestling is because I don't think he has MMA wrestling.
00:09:44.040 I'm sure he's an Olympic champion, but that's also in freestyle. You know, it's completely different.
00:09:49.600 Not only is it a, not MMA wrestling, but it's also a different sort of wrestling that, you know,
00:09:54.840 you're not as good on the ground. You're, it's mainly like you're on your feet. And look,
00:09:57.980 I'm coming to show that I'm going to outwrestle him as well too, because the sport of MMA has its own
00:10:02.440 form of wrestling and that's MMA wrestling.
00:10:04.320 How do you think it varies? I mean, you're talking about being on your feet. How else does it vary
00:10:07.780 from MMA to your traditional wrestling?
00:10:11.240 It's how well you can mix things together. You used to be able to get into this sport of MMA and UFC
00:10:15.920 and be able to be a boxer or be a wrestler or be a judo guy. Not anymore. You have to know
00:10:22.840 everything and blending it together is its own sport. And so keeping your opponent guessing what
00:10:29.380 you're going to do, he doesn't have that. He's either one or the other. And that's how it makes
00:10:34.300 a big difference.
00:10:35.260 It is interesting because I was talking to my wife about this just the other day,
00:10:38.300 and we were talking about UFC in general and, and how quick everything evolves. And it seems to me
00:10:43.700 that the guys who are consistently good are the ones who can evolve the quickest. Otherwise,
00:10:48.780 I think just the sport just out evolves certain athletes is what I've seen.
00:10:53.480 Oh, a hundred percent, man. I mean, you've seen day in and day out,
00:10:56.140 or if you come into the fight and you're the same fighter every time,
00:10:59.220 people are going to take advantage of that. You know, you have to make gains.
00:11:01.960 And that's one thing that I've made sure to do is I've traveled the world
00:11:05.100 and I've trained with the who's who. I've trained with the best coaches. I've trained
00:11:08.180 with the best training partners. I found what works for me. I got a coach, Dwayne Ludwig,
00:11:12.640 that is growing with me. You know, he travels the world with me and learns from other coaches
00:11:17.580 and wants me to get with other people. And, you know, it's hard to find that in a coach.
00:11:22.400 Yeah, for sure. How did you come across him? Is this like a recommendation or did you meet him
00:11:26.420 at the gym? Like, how do you develop that relationship? I knew a little bit about Dwayne
00:11:30.220 because he was fighting in the UC back in the day and being a kickboxer. But I was training up a team
00:11:35.320 off a male and we never had a coach. It was just fighters beating the shit out of each other. Excuse
00:11:40.460 my language, but beating the crap out of each other every day, day in and day out. We didn't have a
00:11:44.360 coach. It was just show up, practice, go hard. Right. Not the healthiest way of going about it.
00:11:49.360 Not the most sustainable either.
00:11:50.760 No, man. I mean, it's not healthy. We weren't winning world titles. Right.
00:11:54.720 Chad Mendes tried for two times and lost. Joseph Benavides tried three times or four times and
00:11:59.820 lost. Uriah Faber, who knows, endless amounts of tries and he couldn't win. So we all came together
00:12:05.460 and was like, look, man, we need something to push the next step. And we all put our heads together
00:12:09.460 and it just naturally worked out perfect. It was just meant to be that Dwayne Ludwig blew his knee out,
00:12:15.200 couldn't fight anymore, retired, and was looking for a coaching position. And we heard that he was
00:12:19.660 going to go to Vegas and start coaching out there. We swooped up on him instead. We picked him up,
00:12:26.000 brought him out to California, started coaching at Alpha Male. And we went on a crazy killing streak
00:12:30.880 for two years. I won a world title. Everyone else started winning. And we went from wrestlers to
00:12:35.260 kickboxers within a year. And so then Dwayne decided to move back home after a couple of years. Him
00:12:39.980 and Uriah didn't see eye to eye. Uriah kind of shady with business and wasn't paying what he said he was
00:12:44.420 going to. And so I decided to move back home and open his own gym. And when he did that,
00:12:48.700 I followed him. So ever since then, we've been family. I followed him out to Colorado and now
00:12:54.400 I'm back down in Southern California. He flies out every week, four days a week to train me for
00:12:59.900 my training camp. I think that's pretty interesting because I know there was, well, from my perspective,
00:13:04.040 quite a bit of a falling out, right? And so of course, there's a lot of speculation and talk about
00:13:08.480 why that is and loyalty and everything else. But at the end of the day, it sounds like you want to be a
00:13:12.620 fighter. You want to be the best. Yeah. It's funny. People want to talk about this loyalty crap and talk
00:13:17.100 about everything, but they want to be the best in the world. But I was loyal. I was loyal to the
00:13:21.800 coach that put the most effort into me. I'm still loyal to him. I'm following him. Like if you want
00:13:26.060 to talk about loyalty, like you guys are bouncing around, not knowing what you're doing, just
00:13:29.380 training. I'm the one that's loyal to someone that now I call family. Dwayne Ludwig's now family.
00:13:34.560 That's how loyal we are, you know? So yeah. Talk about loyalty is one thing. Then also
00:13:38.780 finding someone that's going to help you grow. Dwayne Ludwig cares about my career just as much,
00:13:43.760 if not more than I do myself. How do you get to that point? I mean, is that
00:13:48.220 because I'm sure he's training or he has trained other people. Like how is it different for you
00:13:52.780 guys? You know, it's, that's the best point about traveling the world and seeing what works. You
00:13:57.780 know, you might be at the right spot and you don't even know it, but the only way you're going to know
00:14:01.980 that is by traveling and seeing what other great camps do, other great coaches do, other great fighters
00:14:07.660 do and seeing like what kind of hits home with you, what resonates with you, what gives you the most
00:14:11.840 confidence that night you walk into the octagon and know you could be your best. You know, if that's
00:14:17.300 somewhere else, then go for it. Cause this is a selfish sport, man. It's a one man show out there.
00:14:21.700 You don't play with the team. You know, a team helps you get there, but ultimately it's about
00:14:26.120 what's going to make you best. So figure out where that spot is. Yeah. And I, and you know, the other
00:14:30.120 side of it too, is like, you think about it. And again, I'm, I'm speaking from, I wrestled for a year
00:14:34.120 in high school. Like that's the extent of my competitive sports as regards to like combat
00:14:39.100 sports. But it's really interesting to talk with an individual who's literally the highest level
00:14:46.040 they could possibly be at right now. And of course I know you would say there's room for growth,
00:14:50.120 but they've taken upon themselves to like live this lifestyle that I want to fight other men for
00:14:56.480 living. Like that's a really fascinating thought to me. Yeah. It's pretty crazy. Where does that come
00:15:01.780 from? The way I was raised. I, uh, well, I don't come from like a normal fighting background. I guess
00:15:07.300 you would say, you know, I didn't come from like a dysfunctional family. I was, you know, I was raised
00:15:12.360 by a great family. I was very fortunate. And I would say that every day, every interview, I was a very
00:15:17.500 fortunate kid to get to grow up with a family like I did, but we were very competitive and we are very
00:15:23.740 aggressive. And I think I was just seriously, not only meant for it, but raised to fight. Like I'm just a
00:15:31.580 very aggressive person. I was just meant to do this, man. I mean, I wrestled my whole life. I did
00:15:36.120 good. Yeah. I didn't do what I should have, you know? Sure. As soon as I started training fighting,
00:15:41.220 like it just clicked, man. As soon as MMA came to me, it just clicked. I knew exactly what to do. And
00:15:46.260 things were kind of in slow motion for me. And now it's just, I don't know, man. It's just something
00:15:50.960 that is so primal. Hmm. You feel that way even more so than your wrestling career? Yeah. Way more.
00:15:56.880 Fighting comes way easier than me. That's interesting. Yeah. I mean, and it's cool to see,
00:16:00.220 it's interesting to see everybody's style, but to see your style and then to see your level of
00:16:04.380 heart and passion that goes into as well, which I imagine a lot of people mistake for
00:16:08.660 cockiness or arrogance. And I think there's probably a fine line between that and being
00:16:13.780 passionate and also being confident in what you can do. Yeah. I mean, you hit the nail on the head.
00:16:18.020 It's funny. Like you want me to be the best in the world. You want me to go out there and
00:16:20.740 have these awesome performances, but then I'm not allowed to believe in myself. You know, like,
00:16:24.960 you know, I have to be cockiness. That's what I need to do. That's why I'm here. I get to go out
00:16:30.200 and put a smile on my face. Cause I know that not only have I worked harder, but I've worked smarter
00:16:35.540 than you and I'm there to enjoy it. Like why be nervous? Why be so, so scared to fight? You don't
00:16:42.040 even remember the fight. Like I want to be able to look back on my career when I'm done and be able to
00:16:46.660 say like, damn, that was crazy. That was fun. Cause I remember it rather than being so nervous and
00:16:51.400 scared that you don't remember the walkout. You don't remember Bruce Buffer announcing your name.
00:16:55.180 You don't remember all that stuff because you're so scared. Yeah. Instead, be confident, have fun.
00:17:00.140 I don't know if this is the right term, but do you have to condition that fear out of you? Because
00:17:04.500 I think about it in other contexts, even out here, I'm on a hunt right now, which is we're both like
00:17:09.040 super, super busy right now. But I think about, you know, you get in front of a deer and you pull
00:17:13.200 your bow back and you want to take a shot and everything else kind of like you get so hyper focused on
00:17:18.400 that shot that everything else goes by the wayside. And some of those details are hard to remember
00:17:22.180 because you are so hyper focused on that one thing. Like how do you condition yourself to be
00:17:26.320 so fully present in the moment? Well, experience is one, you know, doing it over and over again and
00:17:32.440 getting rid of that adrenaline rush, but you never get rid of it. That's why we do this stuff. That's
00:17:36.260 why we hunt, you know, I'm an avid bow hunter in the world too. And when you get to do that, pull that
00:17:40.360 drawback on a big buck or an elk, your heart's pounded through your chest and there's so much that can go
00:17:45.720 wrong. But if you worry about those things that can go wrong, you're going to mess it up. So I think
00:17:50.740 just learning to be in the moment is something that comes with experience and really visualizing,
00:17:56.980 you know? So when I train for my fights, I train certain techniques, I train certain game plans.
00:18:03.240 I see myself winning. I see myself walking out. I've gone through this fight thousands of times in my
00:18:09.800 head already. Every time I pull my bow back when I'm shooting at Bela Hay, I always envision that
00:18:15.360 it's a big four by four right there that, you know, I'm, I'm nervous to shoot. What's what,
00:18:20.120 you know, is he facing downwind? Is he, you know, uphill, downhill? Like what's my range? Do I need
00:18:25.740 to crouch under a tree? Like just envision those things to what any kind of possibility can happen.
00:18:30.540 And then when the time comes, it should just be able to shut the brain off and enjoy the moment,
00:18:35.620 you know? Yeah. Don't be like one of those people you see walking around with their phone out,
00:18:39.080 trying to film everything. Just absorb that shit. Yeah. Yeah. No, it makes sense. And it's hard,
00:18:43.780 right? I mean, of course, having the phone out and being distracted and everything else is a
00:18:48.000 challenge, especially in this day and age when there's, especially for you, like I think about
00:18:51.440 next week, you're going into, you know, fight week and all the press conference and all the
00:18:56.420 media and the attention. And even this podcast could potentially be looked at as a distraction
00:19:01.720 from your ultimate job, right? How do you tune that stuff out? You got to remember this is part of
00:19:06.900 my job though, too. Sure. That makes sense. Yeah. Self-promotion. This isn't bad. You seem like a very,
00:19:12.000 a very wise person, easy to talk to. So, I mean, this is things that I don't, I don't mind doing
00:19:17.040 to an extent, you know, I'll pick and choose what seems the best for my career and you got to run
00:19:21.720 with it. You know, this is part of my job, letting you guys know who I am, you know, because I feel
00:19:26.880 like the more someone gets to understand me, the more they're going to, they're going to actually
00:19:31.120 like me and understand that my cockiness or my confidence comes from my hard work. Yeah. I put in,
00:19:37.640 I put in an insane amount of work, man. I don't think there's any other professional athlete that
00:19:41.940 puts in the work like I do my, my strength, conditioning, my nutrition, my, I'm doing three
00:19:46.860 training practices a day. I'm killing it, man, but I'm also doing it very smart. And so that's where
00:19:51.780 that confidence comes from. And I want people to be able to see that hard work or hear it coming from
00:19:55.800 my voice. And it makes it better when I do these podcasts or interviews or media, you know, sure.
00:20:01.080 There's the media where you got to get out in front and talk crap, right? Right. Do that kind of stuff.
00:20:06.380 But this is actually a little bit more meaningful to me because I actually get to really tell you
00:20:10.700 who I am, you know, that look, man, we just found out we both like to hunt. You know, I grew up
00:20:15.660 hunting since I was 12 years old. My dad got me into it. You know, I just found out you wrestled
00:20:19.660 things like that. Same thing for everyone else listening to me talk. It's, I'm just a normal
00:20:23.880 human being trying to live my dream out and enjoy it at the same time. Yeah. That's interesting
00:20:28.700 because just in, in being in this world, doing the podcast for the past four years or so, we see these
00:20:33.340 people that we place on pedestals, right? Whether they belong there or not, we do. And we see somebody
00:20:38.360 like you who's at this highest level they can achieve at this point and think, you know, this
00:20:42.900 guy's got something figured out or he's, or they dismiss what it actually took to get there, which
00:20:46.820 is even worse. But then you start having conversations like this and I've been following you for a couple
00:20:51.200 of years now. And it's like, oh, there's a reason that he's at the top. It's not just that it happened
00:20:55.980 to work out or he got lucky a few times. Like there is a legitimate reason. And I think that humanity,
00:21:01.300 I guess, if you will, like learning more about your story and your struggles and the things that
00:21:04.860 have gone well and not so well, it makes you a lot more relatable and understandable when you go out
00:21:10.300 into the cage and do your thing. Absolutely, man. I couldn't agree anymore. You know, it kind of
00:21:15.680 resonates with everyone at home. I have a normal life at home. My son is napping. This is why it was a
00:21:21.320 good time to do a podcast because he's taking a nap. Yeah. I love that, man. That's awesome.
00:21:26.200 I got a one-year-old just had a birthday party for him, made it to the holidays. Like everyone does.
00:21:30.860 It's crazy. You know, just living that normal life with a crazy storyline, you know, but it's,
00:21:36.600 it's, it's normal. It really is. I think that's the best thing to do is it kind of resonates at
00:21:40.060 home. Like when you watch the countdown shows, it makes people more fans when they can see like
00:21:43.600 what you're going on and like, oh, damn, I do that same thing. You know, like,
00:21:47.700 oh, Dillashaw's a hunter, man. That's awesome. I love hunting and things like that.
00:21:51.600 Yeah. Yeah. I know you're, you're already thinking about, I don't want to say the future necessarily,
00:21:56.180 but you're doing this right from my perspective because you are building a personal brand. You
00:22:00.840 are putting other services and offerings out into the world that are going to help other
00:22:05.760 individuals, which is the one you have right now, fit to fight. Right. And so how does this tie into
00:22:11.220 your long-term play? Because relatively speaking, fighting is not a long career compared to something
00:22:17.540 more average or ordinary might be. Yeah. I mean, this is definitely a long career. It's very short.
00:22:23.160 I've already lived a longer career than most in this sport and I've been fighting 10 years now,
00:22:29.500 you know, so that's pretty long already, but it doesn't, that's not the reason why I'm starting
00:22:33.260 all these things either. These, all these other things that have happened, have happened so naturally
00:22:37.200 and organic that it's been awesome, you know, and like there's so much I could do outside of my
00:22:40.800 career. I'm done fighting. The things that I've started have happened so naturally because it's part
00:22:45.260 of my life. I love coaching. I used to coach off and off. I've been a great coach. That's something I've
00:22:50.580 always really done. I've really been into my technique and I feel like there's so many people
00:22:55.200 as well as fighters out there that ask so many questions about my MMA training, my diet, my nutrition,
00:23:02.260 my strength conditioning. So I said, you know what, like let's put this all together. And so I finally
00:23:06.820 started my website, TJDillashaw.com. I have a fit to fight program. So it's one of its kind for sure.
00:23:13.700 I mean, no one ever does like a full MMA breakdown. Like I'm teaching boxing, kickboxing,
00:23:18.780 wrestling, jujitsu, my strength and conditioning. So that's why it's fit to fight. Like you're going
00:23:25.140 to learn MMA techniques everywhere from someone learning to throw a jab. I teach the exact
00:23:29.560 fundamental basics all the way up to some like ninja stuff to where the people just start now,
00:23:34.500 it might take them a while to get to that spot, but at least they have that opportunity. And once you
00:23:37.840 buy it, you have it for life, you know, it's an a la carte kind of buy it. And it's anywhere from
00:23:42.560 learning MMA techniques to learning how to get in shape using MMA as well as you using strength
00:23:48.060 conditioning. And the cool thing about it is that these are things I do in my camp. Like when you
00:23:52.880 see the countdown shows or the videos of me working out, you'll be doing the same things as me. And I
00:23:57.360 would tell you why I do them together. So if I'm showing you a striking technique, I also pair it up
00:24:03.260 with a certain sort of strength conditioning technique that will make you better at that
00:24:07.300 striking, have better endurance for that striking, as well as maybe get you a six pack, you know,
00:24:12.240 the fun stuff. Well, it's layers, right? I mean, so often from the outside looking in like a lay
00:24:17.060 person, and I would consider myself in that camp, you know, we look at it and think, oh, that's easy.
00:24:20.940 You just throw a punch or that's easy. You just, you know, you go for a shoot, right? And so we look
00:24:25.540 at it and think it's easy, but there's so many different layers on top of that one move that actually
00:24:30.160 make it an effective thing to do. Oh, it's insane, man. I have to drill certain techniques
00:24:34.620 just thousands of times every camp, even if it's me doing the basics. Like for instance,
00:24:39.560 there's a hands and footwork drill that I do in my fit to fight course that I do for every warmup
00:24:45.060 before practice. I'm not showing just crap to show it and hoping to make some money. I want people to
00:24:50.720 let me know how they like the class, if I help them out. I'm getting like money back guarantees. It
00:24:55.480 doesn't feel like you like it. I've gotten nothing but insanely good reviews. It's only been
00:25:00.140 out a week. It's been doing great. Again, like you're going to get in shape or you're going to
00:25:04.260 learn a healthy lifestyle. I'm going to do injury prevention, strength, conditioning, nutrition,
00:25:08.820 MMA. It's, it's, I'm telling you now, if you're interested in just getting in shape or if you're
00:25:12.660 interested in learning martial arts, you got to check it out, man. TJDillashaw.com. I'm kind of
00:25:17.320 sounding like a salesman now, but it's just so true. You know what I mean? I stand behind it 100%.
00:25:23.300 I'll be a bit of a salesman too, because I see the videos and I've seen how it breaks down and I see how
00:25:28.000 interactive it is, which is actually pretty cool. That's kind of a cool thing about it.
00:25:31.320 And I'm excited. That's why I reached out to you is because I wanted to get you on the show to talk
00:25:35.200 about not only your life, because I think it's important when we look at somebody who's at such
00:25:38.820 a high level and realize, oh, this is, this is an ordinary guy who's done some extraordinary
00:25:44.120 things through his own efforts and work and challenges and hardship. And again, I go back to
00:25:49.260 that thing where a lot of people listening think that some of these guys I have on the show are just
00:25:53.580 somehow gifted or miraculous or lucky. And it's just, it just has not been the case.
00:25:59.160 And I need people to understand that that's how they're going to thrive for expand and grow in
00:26:02.880 their lives. Yeah, man. It's the belief, you know, it's the belief in fighting that right path.
00:26:07.760 And that's why I put that 10 to 15 years worth of experience I've learned through MMA
00:26:11.440 on the website. I wish I would have had this when I was coming up. I would have got to where I'm at a
00:26:16.060 lot faster. I'm not saying that would have been the right path, but if I could point just a couple
00:26:20.660 of people in the right direction and doing something differently in their MMA career or
00:26:24.100 even just getting in shape to prevent any disease or whatever it may be, like, I feel like that goes
00:26:29.460 a long ways. And that's the kind of way I think about it, you know, because if I could look back
00:26:34.420 and realize like how to train my body when I first got into fighting, there's so many injuries I would
00:26:39.440 have prevented. Yeah. The shoulder surgeries I've had, the knee surgeries or overtraining my body or
00:26:44.700 certain techniques that I had no idea what was going on that are so accessible now because the
00:26:49.820 internet, you know, because of YouTube or programs like mine. So it's quite awesome, man.
00:26:56.060 Yeah. No, you're doing great things. And it is cool too, because it's so translatable,
00:26:59.700 like the course and just the tactics and everything that you're teaching as well,
00:27:02.860 isn't because you're going to go fight in the UFC. It's because you want to be a better father,
00:27:07.760 right? You want to have more energy to be able to bounce around with your one-year-old. You want to
00:27:12.020 do all these great things. That's why it's so powerful is because it's translatable to everyday
00:27:16.080 ordinary life. Yes. Yeah, absolutely. I didn't only make this for someone that wanted to be a
00:27:20.740 professional fighter. I made it for someone that could work out at home. You can do all this stuff
00:27:24.660 that it's on my website for the most part at home. Yeah, sure. There's some more advanced stuff
00:27:28.900 that you might have to go to a gym or have a partner to do it with, but I would say 90% of the
00:27:33.580 course you can do in the comfort of your home. Yeah. Which is wonderful because not everyone's got time
00:27:38.040 to go to the gym or, or the confidence to go into the gym until they get better, you know,
00:27:42.260 this will help you get to that point so much faster. Gentlemen, let me hit the pause button
00:27:48.080 just really, really quick. And then we'll get back to it. I want to talk with you about our
00:27:50.820 exclusive brotherhood. It's called the iron council. Now, if you've been with us for any
00:27:54.420 amount of time, you'll likely know what we're all about, but what you might not know is that
00:27:58.880 December and January have been the biggest growth months that we've ever had in four years of doing
00:28:04.120 this. And I think that's likely to the timing with so many men thinking about how they can optimize
00:28:09.360 themselves and frankly, the results that they're producing in their lives. And that's the real
00:28:13.540 value of the iron council. We've developed the tools and the systems and the framework
00:28:18.020 for producing maximum results with your fitness, your relationships, money, business, just every
00:28:25.020 facet of your life in the shortest window possible. That's what we want. Maximum results
00:28:28.940 in the shortest window possible. So if you're looking to hit the next level, whatever that looks like
00:28:33.840 for you, and I'm sure you've articulated some of that planning a little bit and those objectives,
00:28:36.720 then I invite you to join the iron council. You're going to band with us 500 plus other men
00:28:41.960 all working together to maximize 2019 and the rest of their lives. So if that sounds like something
00:28:48.300 you want to do, and you're interested in seeing what we're all about and joining head to order
00:28:52.100 of man.com slash iron council. Again, that's order of man.com slash iron council. Take care of
00:28:57.660 that after the show. Right now, I want to get back to my conversation with TJ.
00:29:00.800 What do you feel like are some of your greatest strengths, whether that's fighting or just
00:29:07.760 personality strengths that you feel like are some of your greatest and maybe even some of those
00:29:11.160 things that you feel like you need to shore up some of those weaknesses you need to work on as well.
00:29:14.580 That's always tough, man. It's always been tough for me to look back and kind of
00:29:17.700 pump yourself up. It's always easier to pick yourself apart.
00:29:20.360 Yeah, of course.
00:29:21.180 Say what you're good at, you know, but I feel like it's something that was something I have. I've noticed
00:29:26.000 people tell me that I am throughout my career now and something I've had to learn from experience
00:29:31.180 because I was not this way growing up. I was not this way within wrestling. It was just
00:29:34.820 my mindset and my belief. I don't know, man. It was something that I learned throughout my career
00:29:39.960 that, and it really comes with, I kind of let it all go and decided to have fun, you know,
00:29:45.180 and be able to really go for it. You know, like who cares? I think the mental strength is a big power
00:29:51.220 of mine, my willpower that, you know, what I do is a crap ton of work. I mean, if you guys follow me
00:29:57.300 on Instagram at TJ Dillashaw, you'll see, you know, the photos or the videos I'm posting, and that's
00:30:02.380 just a quick glimpse of what I do in a day, you know. You don't even get to see the home life,
00:30:07.860 which I need to start a YouTube channel and start showing people my day in and day out because it's
00:30:12.460 a full-time job. I don't get to sit down and watch TV, you know. I don't. Yeah. It would be nice if
00:30:17.520 today's my day off, but, you know, I'm going to be doing something that's going to be helping me
00:30:21.780 out for my career or spending time with my family. Right. Do you think that attitude about just
00:30:27.080 having fun and letting it all go helps you deal with a loss? You know, I've always thought, I'm
00:30:32.500 like, how would it feel to lose in front of those people? You got to be able to rise above that. And
00:30:38.440 I've seen UFC fighters who can't, you know, they have one loss and then they're completely
00:30:43.760 destroyed mentally. I mean, they just can't ever get back and come back from it. Yeah, man. I mean,
00:30:47.980 I never had the loss where you go out there and you get dominated and you don't understand, like,
00:30:52.660 how someone was so much better than you. You know, I've never had that situation. The losses I feel
00:30:56.820 are even harder to handle are the, like, a loss against Dominic Cruz that I had or a loss against
00:31:01.880 Rafael Sinsa that I had or split decisions that I should have won. Those ones are hard to get past.
00:31:07.260 When you say you should have won, are you saying that you should have performed better or you feel
00:31:10.980 like it was miscalled? It was miscalled. If it was a fight where I should have performed better and I
00:31:14.600 know that I got beat, that's one thing. I feel like that doesn't bother me. Like, I just got to go back
00:31:18.560 to the gym and get better. Right. You can do something about that. Yeah, but when it's something
00:31:22.520 you can't control and they steal it out of your hands, that's something that really makes you mad
00:31:27.680 and you focus on. It makes you bitter about the sport and pisses you off. And that's something that
00:31:32.020 was a big growing experience for me. I got mad against this since I won when I lost, but even
00:31:36.860 obviously more mad when I lost to Dominic Cruz and lost my belt when I shouldn't have due to a
00:31:42.000 decision that wasn't right, you know, because I should be on a 14 fight win streak right now,
00:31:46.260 a 13 fight win streak right now. And, you know, it's something that really bugs you, but you still
00:31:51.260 have to let it go. You still have to learn to, and that's why I'm getting back to is how hard it is
00:31:56.280 to do it because I have experienced the losses and how hard it is to come back from them, especially
00:32:01.060 those kinds where I feel like they dig deep where you don't actually feel like you lost is
00:32:05.060 overpowering that with, again, enjoying the process. Cause I was mad at fighting when I
00:32:10.380 lost to Dominic Cruz. They wouldn't give me a rematch. Like I swear, I had like a year and a
00:32:14.260 half of like thinking back on it, like where I wasn't happy, you know, like I wasn't doing things
00:32:18.820 to make myself happy. I was pissed off every training practice. I was probably hard on my
00:32:23.200 training partners. It was a tougher relationship with me and my wife and my coach. I wasn't happy
00:32:28.580 and everything was altered because of it. So when I decided to kind of let loose again and start
00:32:34.960 revamping my mental mindset, I came back and everything started falling into place. For
00:32:40.780 instance, I'm back down in Southern California. We started a gym training lab. I have my own spice
00:32:46.840 company that's doing awesome right now called Flavor Republic. My fit to fight course is killing
00:32:52.560 it. It's only been a week and people love it. I'm back down closer to family, back to friends that I
00:32:57.320 grew up with and went to college with. And so finally, when I decided to like, kind of just like let go
00:33:01.880 and let life guide me in the direction it was supposed to and just enjoy the process and only
00:33:06.240 control what you can and worry about what you can control, everything kind of fell into place.
00:33:10.860 You know, it guided me in the right direction rather than me trying to get pissed off and
00:33:14.280 control the situation. It would just get worse and worse. And I wasn't a happy person. So I think,
00:33:18.780 yes, being happy will help you deal with so much. I mean, it's tough. It's tough to say,
00:33:24.040 be happy, right? Yeah, yeah. Just do it, right? Just be happy. Yeah, that's it. You know, but just
00:33:29.560 I think if you start focusing on how negative maybe you're being, you'd be like, okay, you know,
00:33:34.320 just positively. Like, for instance, I say this metaphor all the time when I go into a fight,
00:33:38.720 everyone has negative thoughts. That's why you get nervous. Yeah. Like, oh, what if this guy does that?
00:33:43.080 What if this guy does what if I lose this and that? But like, you end up hearing yourself say that
00:33:46.940 and you like instantly catch yourself and you use positive affirmations that talk that out of your
00:33:52.260 mind. And that really does work. You know, like catch yourself being negative, catch yourself being
00:33:57.160 in a bad mood. And just, even if you just realize like, damn, I'm in a bad mood. It's something
00:34:01.080 you kind of start like just acknowledging it, right? Yeah. Yeah. Just acknowledging that situation.
00:34:06.300 What are some of the things that you tell yourself? Cause when, you know, when those negative
00:34:09.500 emotions or thoughts come into your mind, like I'm sure they do, what is it that you tell yourself?
00:34:14.200 I look back on my day-to-day training and how hard I go and just know that I'm giving myself a hundred
00:34:21.900 percent chance and what's meant to be is meant to be, I guess. It's so generic, but it really,
00:34:27.900 I mean, everyone says it for a reason, you know, but because I don't cut corners, it's easy to do that
00:34:32.360 because I'm putting in those hard days at the gym. I'm putting in the diet. I'm taking the right
00:34:38.120 supplements. I'm doing my hair analysis, everything. What is, what is that? Tell me about that.
00:34:42.720 Yeah. Okay. So, oh, there's another, there's another thing I've started. So I have so much
00:34:46.080 stuff going on in my life now. How do you decide what to do? What fits my life the best? What is
00:34:50.900 the least intrusive? So I'll give you a list real quick. So the gym, that's easy. That's the
00:34:55.900 more I train. Sure. The spice company, you know, I'd say all natural, all great products, non-irradiated,
00:35:02.680 non-GMO, healthy products. I'm into my diet. So when I first, I first got on this ketogenic-esque
00:35:07.900 diet with my coach. Every time I wanted to like meal prep, I'd want to season my food
00:35:12.440 and I couldn't because it had so much sugar in it. You know, I had a bunch of table salt. So I was
00:35:17.320 like, you know what? I found an avenue here. Everyone's wanting to be healthy right now.
00:35:20.960 Everyone likes his keto, these paleo diets, which are huge. They're awesome for you. I was like,
00:35:25.880 I'm going to create my own company. So me and my two friends, which are in different parts of their
00:35:30.260 life, you know, Steve Martin, he's a, he's a normal average guy that likes to work out,
00:35:34.700 just come to the gym. Kenny's a black belt in jujitsu and myself, professional fighter.
00:35:38.600 We all came together and created this company and it's been awesome. So yeah, I mean,
00:35:43.140 that's been a blessing, right? Yeah. So I have, I have the gym, I play for Republic. I have my fit
00:35:47.600 to fight, which has been so natural because all I'm doing is filming what I do on a daily basis and
00:35:53.060 teaching it to the public. Sure. You're already doing it anyways. You might as well film it, put it out
00:35:56.440 there. Yeah. Not only for me to, to benefit off it, but also the public, you know, like that people can
00:36:02.000 learn so much from it. And then also you talk about this hair analysis. I have an app that came
00:36:06.660 out with my strength and conditioning coach. The one I talk about helped me make the weight,
00:36:10.400 push me in the right direction. It's called train champ. It's off of training lab.com,
00:36:15.580 which training is spelled weird. It's T R E I G N I N G lab.com. Yeah. Like rain, right? Train rain,
00:36:24.640 right? Yeah. Yeah. And so the app is on there. You just go to the app store and look up train champ,
00:36:29.440 but we have our own program on there that I've started where you can follow me. The workouts I
00:36:33.940 do in his garage, which are insane. You can do the exact same workouts with me at the same times,
00:36:39.040 the same reps. We have it all done on this app, as well as we have my recipes for nutrition that I do
00:36:44.820 as well as supplementation you can take. And then last but not least, I talked about the hair analysis.
00:36:50.400 So the hair analysis has changed a lot in my life. You can test what's in your body, the toxins. You can
00:36:56.660 test what supplements are in your body, what minerals you have too much of or too little of.
00:37:01.440 And really what the biggest thing to do is to get your body back to homeostasis. You've already
00:37:05.740 worked the best at homeostasis. So if I have way too much potassium in my body, other parts of my
00:37:11.640 body are hindering because of it. Maybe my kidneys are taking too much work because I have too much
00:37:16.340 potassium. Or for instance, I have very high levels of arsenic in my body. And so do a lot of people
00:37:21.740 today from the things we eat out of, the preservatives in our foods or the tattoos that
00:37:26.840 I've gotten. So I found out that I have an insane amount of arsenic. So what I've been doing is
00:37:31.560 I juice a certain recipe. There's the cold press juice that I do. There's certain supplements I
00:37:36.960 take like methionine and chlorella and spirulina and also the juice and the pectoclear. There's all
00:37:44.300 these supplements to help get the arsenic out of my body. As well as I needed more magnesium. So I
00:37:49.640 started taking magnesium. I realized I needed more vitamin D just to get my body back to firing at
00:37:54.660 all cylinders. It makes your brain fire better. It makes everything back to homeostasis, which is
00:37:59.960 what you want. A perfect balanced lifestyle, you know? And so that's on that. Everyone can do that
00:38:04.620 hair analysis on that app. Like you can order it. We send you to package your house. You cut off some
00:38:09.200 of the hair off the back of your head where your brainstem's at. You send it back in. We send it to
00:38:13.380 the lab. We burn it. We find out what toxins and what supplements are in your body, what you need
00:38:19.120 more of. And then we can put you on a specific supplement plan. Like I don't take the same
00:38:24.920 supplements as my training partners do because I need different things. My body works differently,
00:38:29.320 you know? So that's a really cool thing we've started. I haven't even promoted this app yet
00:38:33.200 because it just came out the same time as my online academy came out. So I will be promoting it,
00:38:40.460 but it's amazing. What's the turnaround time on that from the time that you send in a sample to
00:38:45.320 the time that you get the results back? Results are pretty quick, probably within a week. And then
00:38:50.800 you can call them for a consultation. You actually talk to my coach, which is pretty crazy.
00:38:55.400 Interesting.
00:38:56.140 You know, either if it's through email or through phone, and then they'll talk about what supplements
00:39:00.400 you can order. And we order them all from our lab. Everything's third-party tested because
00:39:05.620 I can't buy normal stuff at GNC. I can't go in and buy a normal creatine because I don't know what's in it.
00:39:12.180 Right. And there's so many fillers and different stuff in there that's actually going to probably
00:39:16.280 do more harm than good.
00:39:17.340 Yeah. Or as well as me fail a drug test.
00:39:19.520 Oh, that's true. Yeah.
00:39:20.700 There's even more on the line for me. But yeah, the fillers, like the things like that. So when I
00:39:25.440 first started working with my coach, I had like all these supplements I was taking. And we stopped
00:39:28.340 taking all of them because they don't have to go through the FDA, all the regulations and the food
00:39:33.720 administration stuff that everything else does. So you can be taking a bunch of nothing or a bunch of
00:39:38.620 crap that's actually hindering you. So all the supplements we sell to are from our lab,
00:39:42.800 third-party tested, like cutting no corners. Yeah. We make less profit, but we know we're
00:39:48.060 doing the right thing, you know?
00:39:49.600 Well, and I mean, that's just, that's evident just in your life. You know, I was thinking about
00:39:53.080 your training schedule and I was following you on Instagram and social media and just seeing like
00:39:56.700 your actual regimen. It's evidence that you don't cut corners. Like you're, you know, you're doing it
00:40:01.580 right. You're doing it the right way. And then naturally the results that you've been able to produce
00:40:05.200 in your life are because you do it the right way. Exactly, man. Yeah. I mean, there's so many guys
00:40:10.040 out there who are looking for the shortcut, right? They're looking for the get rich quick scheme or
00:40:15.040 the six pack abs overnight. And yeah, some of that stuff may work, but it's not long-term success.
00:40:20.580 Definitely. I would say 99% of people try to look for that when it's not the way the world works.
00:40:26.700 You know, like you have to work for what you want. You got to put in the time. You got to find the
00:40:30.640 right things like do your homework. Things don't come easy. Everyone wants it to, because look,
00:40:35.180 you can be on your phone looking at whatever you want. You know, entertainment's easy. Like
00:40:39.140 sure. We're trying to make life as convenient, as easy as possible. And that's just the way things
00:40:44.740 work. What drives you when you are tempted to shortcut or you are tempted to, I'm assuming that
00:40:50.320 you have those temptations, but what is it that drives you to keep charging forward and do it the
00:40:55.580 right way when everything's telling you not to? I don't know, man. Cause I feel like it's not a
00:40:59.860 shortcut. It might look like a shortcut. Like I could take practice off today. I'm just gonna go
00:41:03.980 hang out at the beach. I'll get a tan. But really that's not a shortcut. You know, I mean, I guess
00:41:09.220 if your shortcut is to being tan and fat, then yeah, you know, but my objective is to be in the
00:41:15.080 best in the world. You know, I want to retire from the sport of being the greatest of all time
00:41:18.560 and doing that. I have to have the greatest of all time training. So if you want to be a successful
00:41:23.220 person, you want to accomplish certain things, at least just give it your all, you know, give it your
00:41:28.420 best effort. If that's not what you want, then don't do it. Don't lie to yourself either.
00:41:32.440 Yeah. How do you define the greatest of all time? That's subjective, right? And there's a lot of
00:41:36.240 different metrics that you can look at. So how do you personally see that or envision that looking
00:41:40.400 like? Just my performances and coming out and for instance, like me dropping that extra 10 pounds to
00:41:46.260 go down and get this belt. Yeah. It's a big deal. And doing it in impressive fashion. Me dominating my
00:41:51.680 weight class. I mean, I can go up to 145s. I'd be the only one ever to go three belts.
00:41:55.420 Is that your goal? Yeah. Hell yeah, man. That's the thing, man. As my coach and my training and
00:42:00.840 how professional I am, I can go either direction. I could have packed the weight on, right? And gone
00:42:05.060 that direction first. This opportunity came up first, as well as it's easier for me to get my
00:42:10.220 body to lose the weight first before I go up to 45s and then go back down to 25s, you know? So
00:42:15.920 again, it's all a plan. Everything I have going on, that's another good thing for success is
00:42:20.580 right now, short-term and long-term goals. You know, it's always a generic thing you hear people say,
00:42:24.720 but it works. Keep your life on path and keep your life organized. It helps out so much.
00:42:29.940 Yeah, for sure. Well, that's cool, man. Hey, I don't want to take a ton of your time. I know this
00:42:33.820 is an insane time and schedule for you right now. So I want to stick to that committed time, but
00:42:38.400 I do want to ask you a couple of questions and one I didn't prepare you for. I apologize. I didn't,
00:42:42.560 but I think you got this. But that question is, what does it mean to be a man?
00:42:46.040 To be a man? Well, it depends which way you look at it. For me, it's providing for my family.
00:42:50.060 You know, I'm a family man. I've been wanting to have a son for a long time now. And it's funny.
00:42:55.600 It wouldn't have, we tried for like three years and we couldn't have a kid until I met my coach
00:43:00.780 and I changed my diet up. I did my hair analysis and got my body back to homeostasis. And within
00:43:05.820 three months we got pregnant. Really?
00:43:08.200 Yeah. That's amazing. I was going to ask,
00:43:09.760 I meant to ask earlier when you were talking about is like, have you noticed a physical change
00:43:14.040 from those micro adjustments? But it sounds like you obviously have.
00:43:17.820 Yeah, man. It's cool because one thing about what I have going on out here too,
00:43:21.540 is it's not what I like to call bro science. And I'm like, yeah, I think I feel better.
00:43:25.460 Right. Yeah. Cause it's easy to trick yourself, right?
00:43:27.840 Yeah. I think I'd look better. No, but like everything I do is put down to numbers.
00:43:31.840 You know, if it's my hormone test that I'm doing, I, you know, I've tripled my hormones
00:43:36.340 naturally, which is insane. Like that doesn't happen. By the way, I've changed my diet,
00:43:41.580 which has been a huge one. The way I work out my supplementation, I've gotten the arsenic out of
00:43:47.740 my body. You know, I've been able to get pregnant after trying for three years and I'm able to do
00:43:51.880 it after changing my diet up, seeing the numbers of my strength and my times on my running.
00:43:57.460 Everything I do is very calculated and has number proof behind it. We have exact science
00:44:01.780 behind it rather than just guessing. Well, and it has to be for you because you're
00:44:05.360 playing at such a high level, right? I mean, it's important for anybody, but to play and be
00:44:10.260 competitive at the level that you are, it's critical that it's not just guesswork. And hopefully
00:44:16.300 some of this stuff works out. Yeah. Otherwise you're wasting your time, right? Well, and you're
00:44:21.300 just not going to perform the way that you want to perform. And that's why I put my fit to fight
00:44:25.180 course together too, because I feel like there's a lot of wasteful plans out there. There's a lot
00:44:28.800 of wasted time out there and I'm not here to waste anybody's time. I gave real deal stuff that I've
00:44:34.700 been using. I still use it to this day on that website. Cause I know that I don't want to feel happy
00:44:38.880 by doing that. You know, that's why I asked everyone that asked me about it. Like, Hey,
00:44:42.340 where can I get it? I'd say, Hey, get it at tgloshaw.com, but make sure to let me know what
00:44:45.780 you think, you know, like tell me what you think of it. I'd love to hear your opinion because if
00:44:49.740 it's not good, I don't want to put something out like this. It's great. It's not that it's not good.
00:44:54.340 I just want like, it's just me of like showing my confidence behind it. I know it is.
00:44:58.080 Sure. Yeah. What do you feel like you've sacrificed to get to where you are? Not only with
00:45:02.860 your career, your fighting career, but with your family and everything else that you have going on
00:45:06.740 at what expense has that come? If that makes sense. Um, I guess time, you know, effort,
00:45:11.600 but those are all things that have made my life better. So I wouldn't call it a sacrifice. I'd
00:45:16.520 call it a gain. You know, I've become a better man because of it. I've been able to provide for
00:45:21.340 my family because of it. But I say the only thing is, like I said, if you're not cutting any corners,
00:45:25.580 you're going to put a lot of time and you're going to put in a lot of work, but ultimately it won't be
00:45:29.740 giving something up because in return, you'll get so much more out of it.
00:45:33.500 Right on. I like that, man. I like that. Well, cool. Well,
00:45:36.180 let me know again, how do we connect with you? Where do you want us to go? I'm going to make
00:45:39.480 sure I link everything up for the guys so they know exactly where to go and figure out more about
00:45:43.340 what you're up to and what you're doing. Yeah, man. Anytime. Check on in. Let's make this a
00:45:47.360 regular thing. You sound like a pretty interesting guy. So, uh, appreciate you reaching out. And it's
00:45:52.180 funny. We just got connected through Instagram, you know? Yeah. Isn't that amazing? I mean,
00:45:55.960 we're so well connected. If we utilize it right, we're so well connected with incredible,
00:46:00.740 incredible people. Yeah, absolutely, man. And that's another thing too,
00:46:04.520 is it, I pay attention to my fans, you know, I comment back to them. I'm looking at my direct
00:46:09.380 messages and that's how we met, you know? So yeah, feel free. Cool. Ask some questions about my,
00:46:14.720 my nutrition, about my spices, about my fit to fight course. Um, ask about it all and I'll get
00:46:20.160 back to you guys on it. And that's a hundred percent true. I'm glad you said that because
00:46:23.340 that is one of the things I noticed is naturally I reached out to a lot of people and I'm following,
00:46:28.580 you know, big quote unquote influential people. And it's very rare to find somebody at your level
00:46:35.240 who's responsive to the people that he's wanting to inspire and motivate. And so I got to tell you
00:46:41.860 the fact that like, I look in your comments, not just me, but I look in, in your comments and you're
00:46:46.200 responding back to people and you're hitting direct messages back. That says a lot about you
00:46:50.320 and your desire to connect with the people who are, who are helping you.
00:46:53.220 Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's why I get to do this job. You know, I, that's why I get to go out there.
00:46:58.240 That's why I get to, in my mind, say show off is because of everyone that is following me.
00:47:04.780 Right on, man. Well, I wanted to tell you that my boys made sure that I, you know,
00:47:09.720 that I said hello to you from them specifically, cause they wanted to make sure that I did that.
00:47:13.980 Next. What's the name?
00:47:14.920 Eli and Brecken, my two oldest. I've got four kids, but Eli and Brecken specifically wanted to make sure I,
00:47:19.720 I said that to you.
00:47:21.040 Oh, that's awesome. Well, make sure to tell them hello for me.
00:47:23.220 I will. Yeah. And we'll be watching the fights. I was going to say good luck. I don't like that
00:47:26.720 term. I just say best wishes.
00:47:28.800 Yeah. Good skill.
00:47:29.620 Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Good skill. There you go. So we'll be rooting for you, man. I appreciate you
00:47:33.380 taking the time TJ.
00:47:34.480 Of course, man. You have a good day and good luck on your hunt.
00:47:37.420 Thanks brother.
00:47:38.080 All right. Later.
00:47:40.320 All right, gentlemen, there it is. What did I tell you? Amazing, amazing conversation with an amazing man.
00:47:44.800 I'm really excited for me and my boys to watch the fights this weekend. We're rooting for TJ. Of course,
00:47:50.600 he's been somebody that I've admired and respected for a very long time. And to be able to have a
00:47:55.600 conversation with him was really an honor. I hadn't had a conversation with him before, but to
00:48:00.780 see the, like I had mentioned in the conversation, the humanity, the other side of TJ that we don't
00:48:06.300 see a whole lot was pretty cool. It's a great experience. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope it
00:48:10.140 inspired you to go out and follow TJ, to root for TJ, and then also to see what he's doing with his
00:48:16.700 fit to fight program and some of the other products and services and things that he's doing because
00:48:21.480 man, it's, it's inspirational to say the least. So go check that out. TJ Dillashaw.com. You can see
00:48:27.040 what he's up to and what he's all about, or you can head to order of man.com slash two zero zero as
00:48:32.960 an episode 200 and get all the links and social media channels and whatnot. So anyways, guys,
00:48:38.200 that's all I've got for you today. I hope again, that you enjoyed that one. I appreciate you being in
00:48:41.800 this fight and on this journey with me. Couldn't do it without you. I love seeing the growth. I mean,
00:48:46.420 the growth that we've experienced over the past two to three months has been absolutely,
00:48:50.400 absolutely mind blowing. And it's a testament to what it is we're doing here and the importance
