00:00:59.660 friend who was sitting in a wheelchair that is exactly what happened on february 28th 0.95
00:01:05.420 2025 in carbondale when officers were called to walmart for an active shoplifting incident
00:01:11.660 and what started as a simple retail theft case quickly became one of the most dramatic arrests
00:01:16.620 you will ever see complete with medical emergencies seizures broken thumbs and a
00:01:21.420 a mystery man named jim stay with me because this one has everything
00:01:30.300 officers arrived to find a woman named kelsey already detained by walmart loss prevention
00:01:35.900 she seemed calm at first almost too calm the officer introduced himself professionally and
00:01:41.580 asked kelsey to take a seat but loss prevention had already been watching her for a while
00:01:46.460 and what they saw was shocking they had observed kelsey in the electronic section appearing to
00:01:52.820 conceal items then again in the pet section each time they watched carefully but couldn't 1.00
00:01:59.160 i'm sorry black women my racism got the best of me today a white woman did it okay a fat white 1.00
00:02:05.660 woman which is kind of in the same category right not all there's some classy black women too don't 0.98
00:02:10.620 don't get me wrong i mean there's church black women those can be classy uh but a lot of you 0.94
00:02:15.680 do some ghetto stuff but purple hair fat white women i kind of put in the same like do you know 0.97
00:02:20.880 what i mean someone was asking me the other day they're like pearl are you racist and i'm like 0.96
00:02:25.520 yes but i don't have a hatred for black people there's a difference do you know what i mean
00:02:30.800 anyways white women um i guess we're catching up ladies what was going into her bag
00:02:37.280 that was until she reached the self-checkout at the self-checkout kelsey scanned a few
00:02:42.160 But what we're going to notice as we do these body cam, it's going to be all white women and black people, white women, women, black people, Latinas, but not the white men.
00:02:52.280 Items.
00:02:53.740 But everything else?
00:02:55.640 She simply placed directly into her bags without scanning, without paying.
00:03:00.920 Loss prevention made their move the moment she tried to walk out.
00:03:04.220 And now the real story was about to be.
00:03:07.760 What did you guys see?
00:03:08.740 So I was on the wash.
00:03:12.160 So we thought to be concealment and electronics, but we didn't have confirmation on it.
00:03:17.520 We saw concealment again in pets, didn't have confirmation, couldn't see the product actually entering the bag.
00:03:22.560 So we followed her up to the SCO's, we watched her scan a few items and put everything else into bags without cleaning it up.
00:03:34.560 Well, she exited our last point of sale, so we made a stop, and then we just took the receipts that she did have for the stuff that we watched her just put directly in the bag, pulled it off the shelf, put it directly in the bag, and they're getting the training receipt right now from it.
00:03:48.480 Okay, there wasn't anything taken directly.
00:03:51.220 You've estimated them out?
00:03:52.800 So I just talked to Coach Kipper, and he told me that it's at least over $300.
00:03:58.840 Okay.
00:03:59.020 So they should have that soon, I would imagine.
00:04:01.380 They should be in the last portion of it.
00:04:03.360 Okay.
00:04:04.100 All right, cool.
00:04:04.560 Thank you. 0.89
00:04:07.120 Kelsey had an explanation ready.
00:04:09.440 She claimed the self-checkout machine
00:04:11.020 wasn't working properly.
00:04:12.740 That it only accepted card, not cash.
00:04:15.940 That by the time she figured this out,
00:04:17.400 she didn't have time to ring everything up properly,
00:04:21.260 but the officer wasn't buying it.
00:04:23.260 Because here's the problem with that story.
00:04:25.280 Kelsey had a receipt for eight items,
00:04:27.480 but she walked out with way more than eight items.
00:04:30.740 The officer pointed this out directly.
00:04:33.160 You had eight items on your receipt, and you had way more than eight items.
00:04:36.940 And then she's just going to gaslight.
00:04:38.500 You should have known. 0.99
00:04:40.100 And that is when Kelsey's composure started cracking. 0.99
00:04:43.900 She began talking over the officer, interrupting, getting agitated.
00:04:48.140 The officer had to firmly remind her.
00:04:51.080 This was not a conversation.
00:04:52.140 You know what? 0.70
00:04:52.700 The more I used to think that like liars and thieves and all this stuff were these criminal masterminds, blah, blah, blah.
00:05:00.560 But the more I observe, I really just think that it's usually pretty obvious when people are lying.
00:05:13.120 This was an investigation, and the video evidence from Walmart's cameras was about to make everything very clear.
00:05:19.960 Sorry, they just got tied up on something, so it's going to be just a second before I get their information.
00:05:25.420 Do you live here in Carbondale, Kelsey?
00:05:26.740 Because the machine that I rang most of my stuff up with, they said that it wasn't cash, that it was card.
00:05:35.380 So by the time I went back over there, whenever she did that, I didn't have time to ring up anything else in my card.
00:05:42.640 But you had eight items on your receipt, and you had way over more eight items, so you should have known.
00:05:47.060 And I could have.
00:05:48.900 But you didn't.
00:05:49.740 If I could have, then it was.
00:05:51.200 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, ma'am. 0.75
00:05:53.180 Let me talk.
00:05:54.320 Audacity.
00:05:54.760 no you're gonna stand up yeah imagine like living with this is your mother
00:06:00.520 this is what they do all the time
00:06:02.100 am i going we need to talk and figure some stuff out but you're not going to talk over us right now
00:06:14.140 okay okay well they have video of everything so that'll make it easy
00:06:20.540 Okay, they have the itemized receipt looks like it was over $500. All right. So that is a felony
00:06:40.020 amount. So you will be going back to the police station with me. Okay. And then after the police
00:06:44.640 station where probably the jail for the weekend most likely yeah this is a felony arrest i know
00:06:51.660 but i don't have any of my medication or anything okay i'll notify the jail do you have an epi pen
00:06:57.840 no it's not epi pen i take like 30 minutes okay well whoever you live with or someone you can
00:07:04.760 call to go to your house they can always bring the medication up to the jail okay i've got to
00:07:08.460 talk to my i've got to talk to my friend who is paralyzed he's going about to be the one
00:07:14.820 they go to my house okay we'll get in contact with them right yeah so what made this all 1.00
00:07:20.420 of a sudden me be in jail all weekend because this is a felony are you stupid 1.00
00:07:25.060 women have to have a lower iq okay 1.00
00:07:31.480 and then came the twist nobody saw coming jim throughout the entire encounter kelsey kept
00:07:50.800 mentioning a man named jim her friend a disabled older man in a wheelchair who had been waiting
00:07:57.120 for her at the service desk at first she wanted jim to bring her medication from home but as the
00:08:03.460 investigation continued a very different story started to emerge kelsey began suggesting that
00:08:09.620 jim was actually the one responsible oh no i told her the items were already paid for that jim had
00:08:15.560 set the whole thing up but here is where it gets interesting officers discovered that jim the
00:08:21.480 disabled man in the wheelchair also had prior incidents at walmart jim was also trespassed
00:08:27.140 from the store the man kelsey was trying to blame had his own history with this exact walmart
00:08:31.960 was jim really behind it all or was kelsey desperately trying to shift the blame onto
00:08:37.260 someone who couldn't defend herself the investigation was far from over he was going
00:08:43.160 out the last is jim he's in a wheelchair he's an older man i've got to tell him what's going on
00:08:48.220 We told him what was going on.
00:08:55.420 Nope.
00:08:56.140 Sit down for me.
00:08:57.260 Can I pull my paper? 1.00
00:08:58.820 Oh, my mother f***er. 1.00
00:09:01.540 You just broke my thumb. 1.00
00:09:03.840 Oh, no.
00:09:04.520 All right. 1.00
00:09:07.240 I love the women cops. 1.00
00:09:09.820 They're so done. 1.00
00:09:11.760 It's going to be awful being a woman cop because it seems like that's their job is just to arrest women. 1.00
00:09:16.660 and so now because now they don't have their husband to beat them so we got to beat them 1.00
00:09:20.680 with the system so now the women they're like they're so done with women's shit my receipt 1.00
00:09:27.100 you just broke my thumb 0.99
00:09:33.360 back is gonna break at this rate by the weight of all of that you know do you not understand how
00:09:41.340 Just when officers thought they had seen everything, the situation took another
00:09:55.180 dramatic turn. Kelsey began complaining of chest pains. I'm going to have a heart attack.
00:10:01.340 I need my nitro out of my purse. My heart is hurting really, really bad.
00:10:05.300 officers immediately called for ems can you get ems and root processing for a possible seizure
00:10:12.420 medical personnel arrived and checked kelsey out right there in the process she was fine
00:10:17.460 she was fine through it all the officers remained completely professional patient calm even as kelsey
00:10:24.880 continued insisting the machine was broken that jim was responsible that she was being set up
00:10:31.120 officers read her miranda rights carefully making sure she understood every word and when asked
00:10:38.680 directly to explain her version of events the story changed again now jim had specifically
00:10:44.580 told her everything in the cart was already paid for that she just needed to scan the dresses
00:10:49.380 but why hadn't she mentioned jim's role from the very beginning the officer asked that question
00:10:55.220 directly. Kelsey had no answer. You're arresting him too? He's not in trouble, correct?
00:11:05.220 That's right. He's not in trouble, correct?
00:11:11.220 Can somebody answer me? 1.00
00:11:16.020 Oh my God, what's a woman do? Oh, it's his fault. Okay, we'll arrest him too. Well, 1.00
00:11:20.340 you can't let him be in trouble. Women, man, women. All right, Kelsey. 1.00
00:11:25.220 We're going to go out to my car. My partner just showed up and so he'll come in and take this.
00:11:29.660 Can we wheel out to the door?
00:11:31.480 Can't do that.
00:11:34.620 I need to talk to him.
00:11:36.020 I'm just going to take her back and talk to him.
00:11:37.400 I need to talk to him about my medicine.
00:11:41.900 The only medicine you need is some fasting for the weekend. That would be very helpful to you, ma'am.
00:11:47.460 We'll get your medicine.
00:11:50.020 No, you guys don't in Murfreesboro. Then you don't ever give it to me.
00:11:53.860 and then I'd seize for nothing but an hour.
00:11:57.160 These are like adult, these are mentally children.
00:11:59.580 A week straight.
00:12:00.640 Can you tell me that guy's name again?
00:12:02.460 What guy?
00:12:03.360 The guy that you, that was waiting on you?
00:12:06.160 Jim.
00:12:06.900 Jim?
00:12:07.740 Yes.
00:12:08.340 What's Jim wearing today?
00:12:10.440 He's in a wheelchair.
00:12:12.100 Okay, what's Jim?
00:12:12.740 An older man with a man.
00:12:14.140 A tan jacket. 0.69
00:12:15.660 Okay.
00:12:15.880 And he has access to your house to get the medication?
00:12:19.060 Yes.
00:12:19.740 Okay, then I'll go talk to him.
00:12:21.400 Okay, I didn't talk to him myself.
00:12:23.860 no you can call him when we get back to the PD that's fine I can't call him he

00:13:46.900 attorney to have that attorney present during question by police a future
00:13:50.860 question does that still count is a conviction on that usually forgery is
00:14:03.320 some type of no forgery is working with our register or what was it explain the
00:14:15.080 17 charges you got for forgery? The 17 charges is because Manny Mazzell was behind three months and he gave me paperwork to do on his charges, which was mental handicap. And he had me filled me, had me filled me, filled them all out. And they all were forgery documents because of that reason. Why? Because they were really switched over the computer. Yeah, I didn't know if that was like one of them, you know. There are certain things. Yeah, like burglary or whatever. Sit back.
