00:00:00.000 It's remarkable to me the lack of understanding.
00:00:03.100 Like Nova Scotia has, and I'm not sure on the exact numbers,
00:00:07.120 but I believe it's around $12 billion is their budget.
00:00:11.020 Almost $4 billion of that comes from Alberta.
00:00:13.820 What's going to happen to Nova Scotia when we leave?
00:00:22.280 All right, let's talk about the money, shall we?
00:00:25.020 Because that's really what this is all about.
00:00:26.660 Alberta, in this communist dream of a program called equalization,
00:00:31.920 sends billions of dollars every year to prop up other provinces.
00:00:35.960 Nova Scotia, for example, gets about 25 to 30% of its entire provincial budget
00:00:41.780 from equalization payments.
00:00:43.840 Translation?
00:00:45.100 Alberta's oil money is literally paying for their roads, hospitals,
00:00:49.200 and yes, their anti-oil activism too.
00:00:51.900 The same provinces that scream net zero and dirty oil
00:00:56.900 have no problem cashing those Alberta-funded checks.
00:01:00.540 The reality is, if Alberta does end up walking away from this lopsided arrangement,
00:01:07.140 it wouldn't be Albertans who would suffer economically.
00:01:10.160 It would be the provinces who can't balance a budget without Alberta's wallet.
00:01:14.900 Independence isn't just a political movement.
00:01:17.640 For Alberta, it would actually be a financial upgrade, to say the least.
00:01:22.120 Why tie the issue of getting a commitment for an oil pipeline to national unity?
00:01:30.660 Well, you have to understand just how damaged Alberta is
00:01:34.080 by the fact that we didn't get pipelines built.
00:01:35.960 If we had built Northern Gateway, if we'd built Keystone,
00:01:38.620 and we'd built Energy East, we'd have 2.5 million barrels more per day of production,
00:01:43.240 which is $55 billion a year worth of GDP value,
00:01:46.860 which is worth $17 billion to my government alone
00:01:49.320 and about an equal amount to the federal government.
00:01:51.720 So this is not just an ideological argument.
00:01:55.200 It's not just a minor disagreement.
00:01:57.060 Oil is by far the most valuable export for Canada.
00:02:01.240 Any of the projects that you will see on the ultimate list,
00:02:04.200 I will tell you that a bitumen pipeline
00:02:06.120 will be by far the greatest benefit to all of Canada.
00:02:10.300 That's why we're going to continue to push for it,
00:02:11.960 because it's just a good project.
00:02:13.380 It's good for our country.
00:02:14.160 There's $9 trillion worth of value in discoverable and achievable reserves right now.
00:02:19.980 And so why would you leave that in the ground?
00:02:21.560 No other country in the world would, and we shouldn't either.
00:02:24.160 Many Albertans are done with diplomacy.
00:02:27.080 They're tired of the premier asking them to give the new government a chance,
00:02:30.880 when it's literally the same liberals of the last 10 years.
00:02:34.440 Tired of almost having to beg for the approval of a pipeline project.
00:02:38.760 Pipelines that the entire country would benefit from, by the way.
00:02:42.000 And that's the irony in all of this.
00:02:45.020 Why stay part of a country where you have no leverage and your voice ain't heard?
00:02:50.060 What do you even have to lose when you already are losing billions
00:02:53.060 to a system designated to keep it that way?
00:02:56.140 That's why more Albertans are shifting from negotiations to action.
00:03:00.740 They want concrete steps.
00:03:03.060 Alberta's own pension plan, its own police force,
00:03:06.620 control over its own immigration.
00:03:08.740 Just like Quebec enjoys.
00:03:10.780 No questions asked.
00:03:12.660 And let's not forget Quebec, the loudest hater of Alberta's energy.
00:03:17.300 They call it dirty oil.
00:03:19.740 But guess what?
00:03:21.100 They're happy to take the equalization payments that that dirty oil funds.
00:03:25.980 Funny how that works.
00:03:27.640 There's only one way to truly fix the situation for Alberta,
00:03:31.300 and that's independence.
00:03:33.380 Nothing else.
00:03:34.240 Watch this Quebec politician run his entitled mouth about Alberta's oil
00:03:38.820 in the House of Commons the other day.
00:03:40.500 While the priories are burning, the premiers are in Saskatoon talking about dirty oil pipelines
00:03:46.680 and abandoning environmental assessments.
00:03:50.180 That's Canadian identity today, Mr. Speaker.
00:03:52.740 A Liberal Prime Minister who talks to oil companies before talking to his provincial counterparts.
00:03:59.200 Provinces that isolate Quebec to force it to accept a pipeline.
00:04:02.280 All these people keep telling us that it's a matter of Canadian unity and of national interest.
00:04:07.460 Does the Minister of Canadian Identity also believe that Canadian unity and the national interest
00:04:14.120 mean building pipelines while the prairies burn?
00:04:18.420 Let's all have a laugh, shall we?
00:04:22.140 Because nothing is funnier than an entitled Quebec politician wagging their fingers at Alberta,
00:04:27.860 calling our energy dirty oil, while their socialist programs run on the money that that oil generates.
00:04:34.760 Dental care, child care, transit subsidies, you name it.
00:04:38.900 All squeaky clean, apparently.
00:04:41.140 So long as it's Alberta footing the bill.
00:04:43.880 But that's typical.
00:04:44.740 The oil is dirty, but the money seems to be clean enough for them, I guess.
00:04:50.240 Meanwhile, Alberta is quietly but firmly laying the groundwork for an upcoming independence referendum.
00:04:56.580 And some supporters are saying not to rush it.
00:04:59.500 To take a year to educate the public, explain the pension plan shift,
00:05:04.200 replacing federal programs, controlling borders, drafting a real constitution for Alberta.
00:05:10.040 The goal is not to win it.
00:05:12.120 The goal is to win it.
00:05:13.500 Because if Alberta does go, it won't be because of a tantrum.
00:05:17.700 It'll be because we finally chose logic, sovereignty, and self-respect over Canada's dysfunctional situation.
00:05:24.600 So I'm happy about the timeline that the premier announced today, because those are all proper questions.
00:05:31.380 And I don't know the answers to some of them.
00:05:33.560 And we need to bring the people together to have good discussions about what form of government a new independent Alberta would have,
00:05:41.480 what form of laws we would apply, how we would deal with borders and immigration,
00:05:45.360 all of these seven or eight things that the federal government does, because it's only that many,
00:05:50.320 and canvas the options, and then build a model as to what it would look like,
00:05:55.440 so that Albertans can make an informed choice that they know what they're leaving and know what they're going into.
00:06:02.640 And that's going to take a year, and we have a year now.
00:06:06.020 So I think that's good.
00:06:09.020 Hey, everybody.
00:06:10.360 Very quickly.
00:06:11.480 If you're new to this channel, please do me a solid and hit the like and subscribe buttons.
00:06:15.580 It helps me a lot to continue making videos and bringing you the updates you care about.
00:06:19.600 If you've been to this channel before, welcome back.
00:06:22.900 Thanks for watching, and God bless you.
00:06:24.700 But one of the things, even in the more moderate folks that I've encountered from Central and Eastern Canada,
00:06:32.440 their lack of understanding of the basic roles and responsibilities of governments and who does and pays for what is remarkable.
00:06:39.080 People come after me on Twitter and say, well, how are you going to pay for your health care then?
00:06:43.340 Well, we already pay for our health care, and we net pay at least $20 billion a year to Ottawa that we don't get back.
00:06:49.440 So we'll actually have $20 billion laying around in our pocket to maybe spend a little more on health care.
00:06:55.880 Thank you very much.
00:06:57.060 People think that the crown land in Alberta means federal crown.
00:07:00.800 It doesn't.
00:07:01.820 The only federal land in Alberta is four national parks, four military bases, and a number of First Nations reserves under the treaties.
00:07:11.740 And when you combine that all together, the First Nations reserves, only 1.31% of the land base,
00:07:17.760 and then the federal component is 20%.
00:07:20.360 Some people think that the federal government owns the oil and gas here, all owned by the province, the water.
00:07:25.640 The only thing the federal government really has a responsibility for in Alberta is like running a passport office,
00:07:31.400 and they can't even do that.
00:07:33.380 So it's remarkable to me the lack of understanding.
00:07:37.060 Like Nova Scotia has, and I'm not sure on the exact numbers, but I believe it's around $12 billion is their budget.
00:07:44.980 Almost $4 billion of that comes from Alberta.
00:07:47.760 What's going to happen to Nova Scotia when we leave, right, and if we leave?
00:07:51.500 Where Ontario is now going to have to pay that money?
00:07:54.400 And the fellow from the Toronto Star won't be so smug at that point.
00:07:57.940 The reality is that Alberta is a tremendous asset to Canada.
00:08:02.060 We fund so much of Canada's activities.
00:08:05.020 We ask so little.
00:08:06.160 And instead, we've just been harassed.
00:08:08.980 All right.
00:08:09.900 Thanks for watching.
00:08:11.040 Thank you for subscribing.
00:08:12.520 Special thanks to those of you who have donated to this project.
00:08:15.420 It is much appreciated, and it helps me continue making videos.
00:08:19.160 See you on the next one.
00:08:20.600 Peace.
