00:00:00.000 It's remarkable to me the lack of understanding.
00:00:03.100 Like Nova Scotia has, and I'm not sure on the exact numbers,
00:00:07.120 but I believe it's around $12 billion is their budget.
00:00:11.020 Almost $4 billion of that comes from Alberta.
00:00:13.820 What's going to happen to Nova Scotia when we leave?
00:00:22.260 All right, let's talk about the money, shall we?
00:00:25.020 Because that's really what this is all about.
00:00:26.660 Alberta, in this communist dream of a program called equalization,
00:00:31.900 sends billions of dollars every year to prop up other provinces.
00:00:35.940 Nova Scotia, for example,
00:00:38.080 gets about 25 to 30% of its entire provincial budget from equalization payments.
00:00:43.840 Translation?
00:00:45.100 Alberta's oil money is literally paying for their roads, hospitals,
00:00:49.200 and yes, their anti-oil activism too.
00:00:51.900 The same provinces that scream net zero and dirty oil
00:00:56.920 have no problem cashing those Alberta-funded checks.
00:01:00.760 The reality is, if Alberta does end up walking away from this lopsided arrangement,
00:01:07.200 it wouldn't be Albertans who would suffer economically.
00:01:10.280 It would be the provinces who can't balance a budget without Alberta's wallet.
00:01:14.060 Independence isn't just a political movement.
00:01:17.720 For Alberta, it would actually be a financial upgrade, to say the least.
00:01:22.120 If you support these videos, please like and subscribe.
00:01:26.260 I appreciate it.
00:01:27.220 Why tie the issue of getting a commitment for an oil pipeline to national unity?
00:01:36.460 Well, you have to understand just how damaged Alberta is
00:01:40.140 by the fact that we didn't get pipelines built.
00:01:42.020 If we had built Northern Gateway, if we'd built Keystone,
00:01:44.680 and we'd built Energy East,
00:01:45.640 we'd have 2.5 million barrels more per day of production,
00:01:49.300 which is $55 billion a year worth of GDP value,
00:01:52.920 which is worth $17 billion to my government alone,
00:01:55.400 and about an equal amount to the federal government.
00:01:57.780 So this is not just an ideological argument.
00:02:01.260 It's not just a minor disagreement.
00:02:03.140 Oil is by far the most valuable export for Canada.
00:02:07.200 Any of the projects that you will see on the ultimate list,
00:02:10.260 I will tell you that a bitumen pipeline
00:02:12.180 will be by far the greatest benefit to all of Canada.
00:02:16.300 That's why we're going to continue to push for it,
00:02:18.040 because it's just a good project.
00:02:19.460 It's good for our country.
00:02:20.740 There's $9 trillion worth of value in discoverable
00:02:23.860 and achievable reserves right now.
00:02:26.080 And so why would you leave that in the ground?
00:02:27.600 No other country in the world would,
00:02:28.820 and we shouldn't either.
00:02:30.240 Many Albertans are done with diplomacy.
00:02:33.140 They're tired of the premier asking them
00:02:34.800 to give the new government a chance,
00:02:36.940 when it's literally the same liberals of the last 10 years.
00:02:40.460 Tired of almost having to beg
00:02:42.020 for the approval of a pipeline project.
00:02:44.720 Pipelines that the entire country would benefit from,
00:02:47.560 by the way.
00:02:48.060 And that's the irony in all of this.
00:02:51.060 Why stay part of a country where you have no leverage
00:02:53.680 and your voice ain't heard?
00:02:56.120 What do you even have to lose
00:02:57.240 when you already are losing billions
00:02:59.120 to a system designated to keep it that way?
00:03:02.220 That's why more Albertans are shifting
00:03:04.040 from negotiations to action.
00:03:06.800 They want concrete steps.
00:03:09.140 Alberta's own pension plan,
00:03:11.020 its own police force,
00:03:12.680 control over its own immigration.
00:03:14.300 Just like Quebec enjoys.
00:03:16.840 No questions asked.
00:03:18.780 And let's not forget Quebec,
00:03:20.320 the loudest hater of Alberta's energy.
00:03:23.360 They call it dirty oil.
00:03:25.880 But guess what?
00:03:27.140 They're happy to take the equalization payments
00:03:29.240 that that dirty oil funds.
00:03:32.060 Funny how that works.
00:03:33.680 There's only one way to truly fix the situation for Alberta,
00:03:37.380 and that's independence.
00:03:39.460 Nothing else.
00:03:40.580 Watch this Quebec politician
00:03:42.100 run his entitled mouth about Alberta's oil
00:03:44.880 in the House of Commons the other day.
00:03:46.560 While the priories are burning,
00:03:48.780 the premiers are in Saskatoon
00:03:50.500 talking about dirty oil pipelines
00:03:52.760 and abandoning environmental assessments.
00:03:56.380 That's Canadian identity today, Mr. Speaker.
00:03:59.060 A Liberal Prime Minister who talks to oil companies
00:04:01.440 before talking to his provincial counterparts.
00:04:05.280 Provinces that isolate Quebec
00:04:06.540 to force it to accept a pipeline.
00:04:08.760 All these people keep telling us
00:04:10.040 that it's a matter of Canadian unity
00:04:11.940 and of national interest.
00:04:14.060 Does the Minister of Canadian Identity
00:04:16.800 also believe that Canadian unity
00:04:18.620 and the national interest
00:04:20.180 mean building pipelines
00:04:22.060 while the prairies burn?
00:04:25.320 Let's all have a laugh, shall we?
00:04:28.220 Because nothing is funnier
00:04:29.420 than an entitled Quebec politician
00:04:31.320 wagging their fingers at Alberta,
00:04:33.960 calling our energy dirty oil,
00:04:35.880 while their socialist programs
00:04:37.960 run on the money that that oil generates.
00:04:40.840 Dental care, child care,
00:04:42.640 transit subsidies, you name it.
00:04:44.960 All squeaky clean, apparently.
00:04:47.280 So long as it's Alberta footing the bill.
00:04:49.880 But that's typical.
00:04:51.380 The oil is dirty,
00:04:53.000 but the money seems to be clean enough
00:04:54.620 for them, I guess.
00:04:56.320 Meanwhile, Alberta is quietly,
00:04:58.520 but firmly laying the groundwork
00:05:00.240 for an upcoming independence referendum.
00:05:02.020 And some supporters are saying
00:05:04.120 not to rush it,
00:05:05.500 to take a year to educate the public,
00:05:08.000 explain the pension plan shift,
00:05:10.280 replacing federal programs,
00:05:11.940 controlling borders,
00:05:13.540 drafting a real constitution for Alberta.
00:05:16.160 The goal is not to win it.
00:05:18.360 The goal is to win it.
00:05:19.680 Because if Alberta does go,
00:05:21.700 it won't be because of a tantrum.
00:05:23.740 It'll be because we finally chose logic,
00:05:26.520 sovereignty, and self-respect
00:05:28.180 over Canada's dysfunctional situation.
00:05:30.020 So I'm happy about the timeline
00:05:33.380 that the Premier announced today,
00:05:35.120 because those are all proper questions.
00:05:37.440 And I don't know the answers to some of them.
00:05:39.640 And we need to bring the people together
00:05:41.760 to have good discussions
00:05:43.520 about what form of government
00:05:45.280 a new independent Alberta would have,
00:05:47.560 what form of laws we would apply,
00:05:49.540 how we would deal with borders and immigration,
00:05:51.780 all of these seven or eight things
00:05:53.880 that the federal government does,
00:05:55.240 because it's only that many,
00:05:56.400 and canvas the options,
00:05:58.240 and then build a model
00:05:59.960 as to what it would look like
00:06:01.500 so that Albertans can make an informed choice
00:06:04.780 that they know what they're leaving
00:06:06.920 and know what they're going into.
00:06:08.880 And that's going to take a year.
00:06:10.960 And we have a year now.
00:06:12.260 So I think that's good.
00:06:16.600 Ottawa doesn't speak for guys like me.
00:06:20.040 Alberta does.
00:06:21.280 I used to fly a Canadian flag,
00:06:23.180 but now I fly the Alberta flag.
00:06:25.140 It actually stands for something.
00:06:29.100 I'm proud to fly the flag
00:06:31.040 of a place that still promises a future for my kids.
00:06:35.240 That's right.
00:06:36.120 We got to dance to our own tune.
00:06:38.520 And we got to fight for our independence.
00:06:41.080 Because you and I know
00:06:42.360 Alberta would be much better off
00:06:45.320 being its own country.
00:06:47.140 But one of the thing,
00:06:48.400 even in the more moderate folks
00:06:51.120 that I've encountered
00:06:52.100 from Central and Eastern Canada,
00:06:53.680 their lack of understanding
00:06:55.540 of the basic roles
00:06:57.260 and responsibilities of governments
00:06:58.700 and who does and pays
00:06:59.740 for what is remarkable.
00:07:00.760 People come after me on Twitter and say,
00:07:02.740 well, how are you going to pay
00:07:03.660 for your health care then?
00:07:05.000 Well, we already pay for our health care
00:07:06.560 and we net pay at least $20 billion
00:07:08.800 a year to Ottawa
00:07:10.040 that we don't get back.
00:07:11.200 So we'll actually have $20 billion
00:07:12.780 laying around in our pocket
00:07:14.960 to maybe spend a little more on health care.
00:07:17.540 Thank you very much.
00:07:18.740 People think that the crown land in Alberta
00:07:21.220 means federal crown.
00:07:22.360 It doesn't.
00:07:23.340 The only federal land in Alberta
00:07:25.580 is four national parks,
00:07:28.020 four military bases,
00:07:29.780 and a number of First Nations reserves
00:07:31.540 under the treaties.
00:07:33.400 And when you combine that all together,
00:07:35.640 the First Nations reserves,
00:07:37.060 only 1.31% of the land base.
00:07:39.560 And then the federal component is 20.
00:07:42.140 Some people think that the federal government
00:07:43.920 owns the oil and gas here,
00:07:45.380 all owned by the province,
00:07:46.760 the water.
00:07:47.500 The only thing the federal government
00:07:48.920 really has a responsibility for in Alberta
00:07:51.340 is like running a passport office
00:07:52.960 and they can't even do that.
00:07:55.020 So it's remarkable to me
00:07:57.220 the lack of understanding.
00:07:58.720 Like Nova Scotia has,
00:08:00.840 and I'm not sure on the exact numbers,
00:08:02.740 but I believe it's around $12 billion
00:08:05.460 is their budget.
00:08:06.640 Almost $4 billion of that comes from Alberta.
00:08:09.460 What's going to happen to Nova Scotia
00:08:10.920 when we leave, right?
00:08:12.200 And if we leave,
00:08:13.160 where Ontario is now going to have
00:08:14.980 to pay that money.
00:08:15.840 And the fellow from the Toronto Star
00:08:17.780 won't be so smug at that point.
00:08:19.620 The reality is,
00:08:20.720 is that Alberta is a tremendous asset to Canada.
00:08:23.620 We fund so much of Canada's activities.
00:08:26.700 We ask so little.
00:08:28.060 And instead,
00:08:29.060 we've just been harassed.
