Summary

Could Alberta leave Canada after 120 years of being a part of Canada? Is this a real possibility? Is it time to separate from the rest of Canada, and what would it look like to have Alberta secede from Canada.

00:00:00.000 But then there's the question of even being Canadian.
00:00:03.440 I'm personally hoping that these topics discussed tonight here are preparing us for separation down the road.
00:00:08.840 If you speak to Donald Trump, please ask him for asylum for people like myself who are hard-working Albertans.
00:00:17.180 I have though said that if either of the petition campaigns get enough signatures, that we absolutely will put it on the ballot.
00:00:24.440 One group wants to ask, do you agree that the province of Alberta shall become a sovereign country and cease to be a province in Canada?
00:00:32.920 Alberta's court system will test the constitutionality of that question this fall before it can gather signatures.
00:00:39.260 Could it actually happen? Alberta calling it quits with Canada after a 120-year-long marriage?
00:00:46.580 Most Albertans apparently think so, even if they don't want it.
00:00:50.160 We're looking at a majority of people who are right now looking at Alberta's separation as an issue that is real.
00:00:57.620 It's certainly different from what we see in other parts of the country where the numbers are lower.
00:01:02.220 We don't see any other part of Canada where we reach such a high number of people who say this is a real possibility.
00:01:09.380 Mario Canseco asked 1,200 Canadians who had just voted to think about the effect a liberal win could have in provinces where most people vote conservative,
00:01:18.100 Alberta in particular.
00:01:20.600 The pollster found 65% of Canadians don't want Alberta to leave.
00:01:25.560 However, he also found that 58% of Albertans think separation is a real possibility.
00:01:34.660 The conversation is changing all across Alberta.
00:01:38.020 It's not if we can leave Canada, it's when.
00:01:44.020 Polls are showing an increase in support, and the Alberta Prosperity Project is hitting town after town,
00:01:50.780 hammering home the benefits of independence, like controlling our own borders, keeping our tax dollars here at home,
00:01:58.340 building our own trade deals with allies who actually want our oil and gas, like the United States.
00:02:04.240 Imagine Alberta standing tall as a sovereign powerhouse instead of Ottawa's punching bag.
00:02:12.300 Let's be honest.
00:02:14.360 Canada is on a crash course.
00:02:16.400 Sky-high debt, collapsing healthcare,
00:02:19.920 and a federal government that thinks Alberta's wealth belongs to everyone but Albertans.
00:02:26.260 Ottawa has proven over and over again that it won't change.
00:02:30.320 That's why independence isn't just about pride anymore.
00:02:34.460 It's about protecting our future.
00:02:37.500 Every day more Albertans see it.
00:02:40.120 Canada's falling apart,
00:02:41.980 and Alberta needs to save itself before it's too late.
00:02:46.280 Let's get into it.
00:02:47.800 Very quickly though, if you enjoy these videos,
00:02:50.340 please do me a solid and subscribe.
00:02:52.260 It's free, and you can always unsubscribe later if you change your mind.
00:02:55.900 Thank you, and back to the video.
00:02:57.600 What do you guys think about Alberta leaving Canada?
00:03:02.700 Got any thoughts on that?
00:03:03.920 I'll be okay, and I'd move to Alberta.
00:03:06.180 All right, that's what we want to hear, buddy.
00:03:08.540 Right on.
00:03:09.120 Thank you very much.
00:03:10.140 Well, thank you.
00:03:11.200 We're going to pave the way to freedom.
00:03:15.620 That's fair.
00:03:16.020 And if I could add to that too,
00:03:17.740 I think that the notion of independence and sovereignty is scary to us
00:03:22.000 because we've never done this.
00:03:23.740 This is something new.
00:03:24.660 But I was listening to a friend speak recently,
00:03:27.320 and he said, you know,
00:03:28.260 like this has been done thousands of times in history.
00:03:31.360 Nations have formed new nations,
00:03:33.040 and new nations have been born.
00:03:34.540 And as far back as when they used to do it with parchment and pen.
00:03:38.880 So right now, and this is what he said too,
00:03:41.280 right now at this time in history,
00:03:43.020 when we have the entire knowledge of the world at our fingertips,
00:03:46.720 this is something that actually is achievable and completely doable.
00:03:50.740 And we actually are in the driver's seat as Albertans deciding
00:03:54.340 what this new sovereign nation could look like
00:03:56.660 and what it is that we value.
00:03:58.160 If it's faith, family, and freedom,
00:03:59.360 that becomes the focus point.
00:04:01.840 I think it's a good idea.
00:04:13.460 I'm a redneck.
00:04:15.380 So, yeah, I think it's a good idea.
00:04:17.900 I think it's economically good.
00:04:20.080 We'll have control of our own pipelines
00:04:21.900 and make our own decisions instead of being puppets to Ottawa.
00:04:26.320 Like most Albertans,
00:04:27.360 I feel like we've just supported the rest of the country long enough.
00:04:29.880 Now it's time to look after ourselves.
00:04:31.800 Patience is running thin.
00:04:34.260 Jason Wilson, a 28-year-old rancher, hears it from all sides.
00:04:38.700 My neighbours are done.
00:04:40.140 They don't think it's worth it.
00:04:42.260 I think there's a lot of emotion right now too.
00:04:45.360 Do you think we will see a referendum on independence
00:04:47.740 in the next 12 to 18 months?
00:04:49.540 I wouldn't be surprised.
00:04:52.040 Wilson's family came here in 1887.
00:04:55.220 He's sixth generation on this land in our east of Calgary,
00:04:58.520 raising cattle and farming.
00:05:00.980 That's why I'm so pro-Alberta
00:05:03.840 and an Albertan first, I would say,
00:05:06.640 is because of the legacy that was passed on to me.
00:05:09.220 Look, let's face it.
00:05:11.100 Canada's been milking Alberta drive for decades.
00:05:14.660 Billions taken in equalization payments,
00:05:17.780 pipelines blocked,
00:05:19.280 our farmers and oil patch kicked to the curb.
00:05:21.820 Meanwhile, Ontario and Quebec get the red carpet.
00:05:26.500 Albertans were told to sit down and pay up.
00:05:30.000 But here's the thing.
00:05:31.680 People aren't sitting quiet anymore.
00:05:34.660 Town halls and rallies across the province are filling up,
00:05:38.280 led by the Alberta Prosperity Project.
00:05:41.080 The message is clear as day.
00:05:43.200 Independence isn't crazy or fringe.
00:05:46.340 It's common sense.
00:05:47.400 Imagine Alberta keeping our own tax dollars,
00:05:51.220 making our own trade deals
00:05:52.700 and running energy the way we know it should be run.
00:05:56.360 Canada's sinking fast,
00:05:59.360 massive debt,
00:06:01.040 broken health care,
00:06:02.660 out of control immigration
00:06:03.960 and policies designed to strangle the West.
00:06:07.820 So the question isn't why independence, really.
00:06:11.680 The actual question is,
00:06:13.560 why would we stay?
00:06:15.560 You and I both know that Alberta
00:06:17.420 is an economic juggernaut.
00:06:20.200 Here we are in this province
00:06:21.540 with an annual GDP of about $353 billion,
00:06:27.560 with a B, dollars.
00:06:29.260 That is what we produce economically every year.
00:06:32.580 Tonight, the Alberta Prosperity Project
00:06:34.740 is hosting an event to talk about
00:06:37.420 the benefits of Alberta independence.
00:06:40.060 We've been having these discussions
00:06:42.240 all over the province.
00:06:43.000 They've been wonderful
00:06:43.880 and tonight we're in Redcliffe.
00:06:45.860 For me, Alberta sovereignty is
00:06:47.220 Alberta being its own nation.
00:06:49.520 It's separating from Canada
00:06:50.880 and becoming its own independent country.
00:06:53.340 It means an entirely new way of life.
00:06:55.660 It means an entirely new system of government.
00:06:58.200 It means an entirely new economic structure.
00:07:00.500 It basically means reframing
00:07:02.500 or restructuring Alberta
00:07:04.280 so as to guarantee rights,
00:07:06.580 freedoms, economic flourishing
00:07:08.140 and all of those other virtues that we desire.
00:07:11.160 With regards to independence,
00:07:12.240 I think the most common issues
00:07:13.700 that the APP hears is,
00:07:15.900 or at least concerns,
00:07:16.880 is besides landlocking,
00:07:18.780 taxation, new federal structure,
00:07:21.200 how would we fund social programs
00:07:23.060 and social activities,
00:07:24.600 along with what would we do with our neighbours?
00:07:26.700 Would we still enjoy
00:07:27.540 a friendly relationship with Canada?
00:07:29.340 Might it even be friendlier?
00:07:30.620 What about America?
00:07:31.680 What would their influence be?
00:07:33.140 And so on.
00:07:33.660 Again, all of them are justified concerns.
00:07:36.040 Put simply, the question is,
00:07:37.320 what would Alberta as a new nation look like?
00:07:41.500 Tonight I'm talking about landlocking
00:07:43.260 and the prospect of landlocking
00:07:45.660 with an independent Alberta.
00:07:47.240 And the reason I'm talking about it
00:07:48.540 is because it's one of the most common questions,
00:07:51.360 I think, that not just the APP,
00:07:53.320 but independence activists in general
00:07:55.860 receive both in person and online.
00:07:58.120 There's always the question of,
00:07:59.900 if Alberta were independent,
00:08:01.460 what would it look like
00:08:02.480 with regards to its landlocking?
00:08:04.040 Because we wouldn't have
00:08:04.940 an immediate access to port.
00:08:06.720 And so we'll be going through a discussion
00:08:08.320 on what that might look like.
00:08:09.520 For more information on Alberta sovereignty,

00:08:24.680 and our entire prosperity to come.
