00:00:00.000 police already set up just outside of the U.S. consulate. They've been here for several months
00:00:04.740 since March. That's when there was the last shooting that happened here at the U.S. consulate.
00:00:09.120 We heard from officials it was considered a national security investigation at the time,
00:00:13.560 a very, very big concern for so many people given what happened and the implications of all of this.
00:00:18.800 We arrived just a few minutes ago and the entire university stretched southbound from Dundas,
00:00:23.380 right up till about Queen, is blocked off as part of this investigation. But through our cameras,
00:00:28.220 As we can see, David, that there are bullet holes in the glass door, the front door of the building.
00:00:34.680 This is insane.
00:00:36.580 Completely insane.
00:00:38.560 The American consulate was just attacked in Toronto today on Canadian soil.
00:00:43.860 For the first time ever, our closest ally is being attacked and threatened with violence right inside our borders.
00:00:49.840 Seriously, Canada, what the hell is going on in this country?
00:00:52.980 The RCMP, local police and the FBI are all collaborating in trying to find who did this.
00:00:58.760 And they had a press conference earlier today where they offered more details.
00:01:02.440 Police in Toronto are investigating a shooting outside the U.S. consulate.
00:01:06.520 This is the second one to take place at the consulate this year.
00:01:10.200 So, Victoria, what is the latest? What are we hearing from authorities?
00:01:13.420 What are they saying about this shooting?
00:01:16.340 Good morning, Miranda.
00:01:17.900 Yeah, so we heard from police.
00:01:19.020 They did provide an update this morning that it was actually a police officer who had heard the gunfire just before 5 o'clock this morning.
00:01:26.180 And it didn't take long for evidence of gunfire to be located in the area of the U.S. consulate.
00:01:31.340 That was obviously located by police.
00:01:33.360 Now, have a look at the scene here behind me.
00:01:34.920 Police are still very much on scene in a very large presence.
00:01:38.140 Just a moment ago, I saw forensics taking photos of the scene outside of the consulate.
00:01:43.140 Now, right now, there is no suspect information, but there is a suspect vehicle.
00:01:48.000 Police confirm a white sedan was seen fleeing the scene.
00:01:51.720 Now, no injuries were reported, but it's unclear if anyone was inside the building at the time.
00:01:57.180 Now, police, like I said, have a large presence outside of the consulate.
00:02:00.780 At least a dozen or more than a dozen police vehicles are here,
00:02:04.520 closing off the southbound lane of Queen Street all the way to Dundas Street West.
00:02:09.280 Now, Miranda, it is expected that police will be on scene for quite some time,
00:02:13.460 and the southbound lane will be closed for most of the day
00:02:16.440 as police continue to investigate this shooting outside of the consulate here this morning, Miranda.
00:02:22.140 Victoria, as we mentioned off the top, the U.S. consulate building
00:02:24.580 was actually the subject of another attack earlier this year.
00:02:27.840 So what more can you tell us about that one and who was behind that shooting?
00:02:32.100 Yeah, it was back in March that that shooting had happened at the consulate
00:02:35.980 and we know that police have made arrests with regards to that shooting.
00:02:39.660 I can tell you the name here.
00:02:42.240 In the aftermath of that shooting, police revealed that while they had made arrests and seized firearms,
00:02:47.040 the person that was arrested in connection to this was 19-year-old Zara Jabi.
00:02:51.220 Again, he was arrested and does face multiple charges.
00:02:54.880 And police have linked it to a criminals for hire network.
00:02:58.080 So obviously some concern there.
00:03:00.320 And Miranda, you may remember that with regards to that shooting, police did execute a raid in June.
00:03:06.300 And during that raid, a Toronto police constable, Mark Pinizzotto, he was shot and killed while executing that raid.
00:03:13.340 Again, that was in connection to the U.S. consulate.
00:03:16.300 And the raids were also connected to synagogues and businesses, shootings in those areas as well.
00:03:22.180 So lots of concern, especially now following what happened here this morning.
00:03:25.880 I mean, it won't be lost on anyone that the U.S. consulate is the site of many protests and demonstrations,
00:03:30.560 as well as because of geopolitical events.
00:03:32.000 the israeli consulate has seen a lot of gatherings people assembling expressing themselves so uh
00:03:37.920 so this is basically the first time ever that the u.s embassy u.s consulate has ever been shot at
00:03:44.800 in canadian history the officer is saying that there might have been a firebomb many years ago
00:03:50.360 but it's never ever been shot at up until this point which goes to show the level of craziness
00:03:56.440 that is happening in canada nowadays and a lot of people are having concerns about sleeper cells
00:04:01.320 right? Iranian sleeper cells that are currently in Canada that conservative people have been
00:04:07.200 sounding the alarm on for many years, but the liberals have ignored over and over again.
00:04:12.660 And of course, the only two embassies that will need increased security are the Israel embassy
00:04:17.340 and the American embassy. This to me stood out when they were asking that leadership from police
00:04:23.480 in Toronto, do you believe that there are cells in your country, terror cells? He said,
00:04:28.480 There may or may not be existing in Canada at this point, but they are now tightening security, stepping it up in both U.S. and Israeli consulates in Toronto and the U.S. embassy and Israeli embassy in Ottawa, which, of course, is the capital city of Canada.
00:04:43.320 A lot of people are thinking that this might be an incident involving sleeper cells from Iran here in Canada. 0.99
00:04:48.560 I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's happening.
00:04:50.560 Here's Doug Ford talking about exactly that.
00:04:52.420 Any indication of the police that these shootings and synagogues and this shooting and the consulate are related in any way to see people's call?
00:04:59.360 Yeah, no, we haven't had any information on that.
00:05:04.740 But again, this is just me speaking.
00:05:07.640 I believe there's sleeper cells all over the world, as we know, or in the U.S., they're in Canada here.
00:05:13.340 Especially in Canada.
00:05:14.280 And we have to weed these people out and hold them accountable.
00:05:19.800 because again folks we all grew up here uh very peaceful loving uh communities all across the
00:05:27.520 province and and for these people to be doing this uh they need to be caught and they need
00:05:32.980 to be thrown in jail and deported after after you put them in jail deport them actually send
00:05:38.760 them back to where they came from you know folks this is ontario canada we've never seen this in
00:05:43.580 our entire our entire lives well that has changed no matter if it's the consulate or if it's places
00:05:52.020 worship and this goes for for every single religion what he fails to understand or pretends
00:05:59.680 not to understand is that today's Canada is not the Canada he grew up in and he is a part of the 0.76
00:06:05.200 problem people like himself with the crazy Trump derangement syndrome he's not condemning an attack
00:06:10.940 on the u.s embassy but i would dare say he is partially responsible for what's happening today 0.95
00:06:16.300 because canadian politicians have been pushing this anti-american agenda since donald trump took
00:06:22.460 office here's an example of exactly what i'm talking about dog ford showing the world the
00:06:28.220 high levels of trump derangement syndrome that he has so it's uh it's very challenging right now i
00:06:35.420 I just sit back some days, I'm not the only one, everyone in the world sits back and how can one person, one man, create so much turmoil around the world?
00:06:47.520 Not just here in Canada, around the world, it's pretty, pretty staggering.
00:06:51.600 So I can't wait for the midterms.
00:06:55.000 Politicians in Canada have been talking this way about the president of the United States for the better part of a year now.
00:07:00.600 And then they wonder why Donald Trump can't stand a lot of them.
00:07:03.880 You're literally talking about how you can't wait for the midterms so that Donald Trump loses the House and the Senate and all of that.
00:07:10.980 And again, then you wonder why President Trump can't stand you. 0.97
00:07:14.160 And honestly, Doug Ford isn't even the only politician in Canada showing crazy levels of hypocrisy and Trump derangement syndrome. 0.83
00:07:21.480 Here's Mark Carney a few months back talking about how our relationship with the United States is now over.
00:07:26.820 The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over.
00:07:38.180 We will need to dramatically reduce our reliance on the United States.
00:07:42.640 We will need to pivot our trade relationships elsewhere.
00:07:46.240 And we will need to do things previously thought impossible at speeds we haven't seen in generations.
00:07:51.640 and that's why i chose to go to france and the united kingdom two long-standing and reliable
00:07:57.620 partners friends and allies of canada they're also 6 000 kilometers away and it's why the time
00:08:03.220 will come for a broad renegotiation of our security and trade relationship with the united
00:08:09.960 states and their economy is nowhere near as big as the u.s here's the thing an american embassy
00:08:15.420 just came under gunfire in Canada.
00:08:18.560 That's not a normal story.
00:08:20.280 That's a serious incident.
00:08:22.200 So the real questions are, who was behind this?
00:08:25.320 Was this a random act or something far more coordinated?
00:08:28.960 And what happens next if authorities decide
00:08:31.120 that this is a national security incident?
00:08:33.860 One thing is certain.
00:08:35.220 This story is far from over.
