In this episode, I talk about why I believe Alberta's premier, Danielle Smith, is playing 3D chess with the federal government, and why I think she knows exactly what she's doing. I also talk about the consequences of a "No" vote in a referendum on Alberta's independence from Canada.
00:00:00.000Northern Gateway Pipeline. Cancelled. Energy East Pipeline. Cancelled. New oil sands expansions. Cancelled. Hundreds of billions in investment capital for new ports, pipelines, and projects. All gone.
00:00:16.040I think what she's doing is she recognizes that most Albertans right now would not support independence and that she needs to do absolutely everything in her power possible to try and reset the relationship with Ottawa structurally, policy-wise, to allow Albertans to achieve their potential and prosperity and so on in the next generation.
00:00:39.500And she needs to go through every one of those steps because if it's the case that Ottawa is not prepared to change and want to keep putting its knee on our neck, more and more Albertans need to see that.
00:00:49.780They need to know that every avenue was exhausted before they're going to be prepared to vote in favor of a referendum. So I think it's an important process that we're on.
00:00:57.720Maybe Danielle Smith knows exactly what she's doing. Maybe we're all getting ahead of ourselves and she's playing 3D chess here. She's showing all those who are sitting in the middle, who are not all the way on board with Alberta independence, showing them, look, I'm trying.
00:01:14.480I'm trying here. I'm trying here. And they don't care. They're blocking every single attempt I'm making, even if it benefits the country, not just Alberta. Other provinces get their projects approved, but not Alberta.
00:01:31.340But when it comes to taking wealth from us and transferring it to those provinces that block our progress, they're more than happy. They come, you know, they come with their hands out. Maybe she's playing 3D chess.

00:01:54.320So here's a clip from an interview Premier Smith did with the CBC where she said she doesn't know what the consequences of a no will be, referring to the pipeline being denied by the federal liberal government. Let's take a listen.
00:02:13.420It's a quick question because I know you got a jet. The plan is to submit something to the major projects office by the spring of next year.
00:02:20.220This is beyond when you were hoping to have movement on the laws, which was this was last month.
00:02:25.300Now it was by the middle of September. You're hoping to see some change.
00:02:27.960So how quickly from the spring of 2026 do you expect to have an answer from the federal government and a sense of whether it's yea or nay?
00:02:35.300Well, I would hope that I'd have a preliminary answer very soon. I mean, I want this to be on this on the project list by November.
00:02:42.100We have some work that we need to do to make sure that we scope it out and understand what the route would be, what the end point would be.
00:02:49.400And that is going to just take a little bit of technical work. But we should have a pretty good indication about whether there's a yes or a no.
00:02:56.180And I have to say, I don't know what the consequences of no might be.
00:02:59.580If everyone else is allowed to build projects except Alberta, then that's a real problem.
00:03:04.020But then we're not acting like a country. I have supported every premier in every one of their aspirations and their desire to continue to expand their economy on all fronts.
00:03:12.860I think Alberta just wants a little bit of support from our fellow premiers, because I think we already have it from Canadians in our in our polling that we've seen.
00:03:21.160Seventy five percent of Canadians believe that we need to build more pipelines, get our product to market.
00:03:25.280So I feel like we've got the people on our side and we just have to maybe do a little bit more work to get some of the politicians on our side.
00:03:31.220But this is the right decision. This would be the right pathway. This is what Canada needs and it's what our province needs.
00:03:36.240I'm telling you guys, this lady might be playing 3D chess. Do you hear the wording she used?
00:03:42.620I don't know what the consequences of a no will be.
00:03:46.740Alberta, Alberta, Alberta has been supporting other provinces and in their projects that they have, in their infrastructure projects, energy projects.
00:03:57.680And we only expect other provinces to support us back.
00:04:01.880It's basically making the case for independence, people.
00:04:05.520This is what she's doing. I believe this lady is playing 3D chess here.
00:04:08.960I think she's playing a very intelligent game, but I also might be wrong.
00:04:15.400I may be wrong. Maybe she's just pandering.
00:04:18.120Maybe she's begging for a pipeline to save her political career because Albertans are running out of patience fast.
00:04:25.940But maybe, just maybe, she's just making the case for Alberta independence.
00:06:55.980I received a briefing from that delegation yesterday.
00:06:58.840You know, I think the Trump administration is very concerned about what's happening in Canada.
00:07:03.340My understanding from the meetings that have occurred, that the Trump administration officials have indicated that the U.S. would recognize a vote by the people of Alberta to become independent.
00:07:17.060We expect the vote to occur in 2026 sometime around this time next year.
00:07:22.580And I think the Trump administration also recognizes you guys have, right above your border in Montana, the third largest reserve of oil and gas in the world.
00:07:36.320Look at the power of that, the energy independence.
00:07:39.920It takes you from an energy superpower to a mega superpower.
00:07:44.820And then we're completely culturally aligned.
00:07:58.340But we, I want to make sure America understands, you know, the world that we are right on the brink of losing or changing and how dangerous these times are if we don't all keep our level heads.
00:08:11.100And I've been watching you with great, great interest on what's happening.
