00:02:02.440 and most people have no idea and then the solution of course is just you know you can use a sauna there's

00:02:23.040 should we begin so let's start with the notion of all these environmental estrogens that we're putting
00:02:29.360 on and in our bodies and how that affects um i mean 95 95 of my audience is men so let's deal with men
00:02:37.540 you know for the sake of the argument here but and how that affects men and their well-being as they age
00:02:43.220 right because um when you start to pay attention to blood labs and i still have the stack over here
00:02:48.540 as i'm looking at on my table because i've got about 18 of them now but i do them every three
00:02:53.020 to four months because i'm on trt uh talked to jay about this a couple years ago and um it's really
00:02:59.000 interesting to see how little pivots and change happen you know with small tweaks and changing your
00:03:03.840 diet with exercise and all that but there's things that you know i've been putting on my body for years
00:03:08.060 and i have some stuff on my table because i was looking at the ingredients as i was looking on your
00:03:10.940 website so i've got these sunscreens here these are advertised from costco uh and you've got one
00:03:17.480 actually that one there the yellow one the 30 spf right that's not a zinc based one that one is a
00:03:23.860 zinc based one the 50 of course the babies get the better stuff um and then i bought this off your
00:03:29.800 website after we talked and i took a look through your website which is basically a more natural zinc
00:03:35.380 spray but let's start with what we put on our bodies and how that affects the endocrine system
00:03:41.060 in males and why it's bad so let's talk about sunscreens first awesome yeah sunscreen is a good
00:03:46.160 place to start because most sunscreen in america has endocrine disrupting chemicals it has chemicals
00:03:53.360 that act like estrogen and in fact after i published my book so this isn't even in my book this little bit
00:03:59.380 but there was a study they did after i published my book and they showed and this was in like cnn and
00:04:06.080 everything you can just google sunscreen study estrogen chemicals usually you might have to add
00:04:10.560 the word uh benzophenone or oxybenzone you have to add one of these technical chemical terms
00:04:15.220 unfortunately because those are the chemicals and that's what i want you to look at on that label
00:04:18.920 look and see if there's oxybenzone on either of those you know they make it so small i can't even
00:04:24.200 read it with the damn glasses but they got yeah oxy oxybenzone five percent exactly uh pardon me
00:04:32.120 yeah is it in both of them or is it just in that one it's in the 30 the 50 is more zinc based it says
00:04:37.960 the medical ingredient is zinc oxide 20.6 good so that one's probably good but then it's got a bunch
00:04:45.880 of other stuff you can't really pronounce like dimethyl copotonin and c12-15 alkali benzate benzate
00:04:52.840 sure does it have uh four methyl benzaline camphor hang on give me a second i'll dive through all
00:04:58.960 these four methyl benzaline camphor probably not if it's zinc based i'm sure you're good with that
00:05:04.020 one not on this one no yeah i mean there's some questionable chemicals but they're not acting like
00:05:08.820 estrogen probably but that first one certainly with the oxybenzone okay that's what i was saying
00:05:13.260 because they did a study with oxybenzone now again this is just after i published my book but
00:05:17.980 they put sunscreen on people and they tested their blood seven days later and their blood levels
00:05:24.660 of oxybenzone which again acts like estrogen in your body it was above the government's own
00:05:29.640 recommended limits seven days after one application of sunscreen a crazy crazy finding and even the
00:05:36.740 former fda uh chairman came out and said this is unbelievable we got to do more studies you know how
00:05:42.300 can this be and then we've had this chemical legal for 30 years and you know of course you can't get
00:05:48.040 the the current administration the current fda the current epa you can't get them to say anything
00:05:53.420 because you know there's legal stuff and you know they have a lot of ego involved with this stuff but
00:05:58.680 there was um some mention in the book about how um sunscreen causes estrogen and i'm probably
00:06:06.640 butchering this so maybe you can correct me but uh sunscreen will will will cause a binding effect
00:06:12.940 to estrogen receptors or to testosterone receptors so it actually makes it even harder for you to
00:06:19.180 produce your own testosterone exactly uh it blocks binding to the receptor for testosterone so because
00:06:25.680 of the uv light on your skin it like it actually locks it out right there's two things yeah so i talked
00:06:30.080 to an organic chemist about this chemical and it so with the estrogen receptor which is the receptor
00:06:36.220 that obviously picks up estrogen when you've got this oxybenzone this estrogen chemical in your
00:06:41.000 body if it interacts with the uv light it can link to the estrogen receptor it's like turning on a
00:06:47.220 light switch and just leaving it on normally when estrogen comes into the receptor it binds and then
00:06:50.980 it goes off you know so you flip on the light you flip it back off so you don't constantly have
00:06:55.020 estrogen effects but if you have this oxybenzone and then you fuse it on there with uv light
00:06:59.780 you can permanently flip on the light switch in other words permanently activate the estrogen
00:07:03.740 receptor if that makes sense and then in terms of the testosterone receptor it actually blocks
00:07:09.500 binding to the testosterone receptor so even if your levels look good on testosterone if you're
00:07:15.080 loading up on this oxybenzone this artificial estrogen chemical and any other artificial estrogen
00:07:19.900 chemicals that we're going to talk about because it blocks binding the receptor the testosterone can't
00:07:23.800 even do anything does that make sense it's like basically putting a piece of plywood in front of a hockey
00:07:27.760 goal and then shooting pucks at it you can't score you know what i mean it doesn't matter how many
00:07:31.700 pucks you have out on the ice and how many players you have you're not going to put any points on the
00:07:35.600 on the board because you got a piece of plywood in front of the goal you're blocking the testosterone
00:07:39.240 receptor so they call it testosterone uh sensitivity you know it's like insulin sensitivity everybody in
00:07:45.840 america they're eating too many carbs and we're all you know we're all basically desensitized to
00:07:50.240 insulin we have insulin sensitivity issues and we have the same problem with testosterone so this stuff
00:07:56.240 is really bad yeah like i should throw this in the garbage yeah correct you don't put this on your
00:08:01.500 kids you don't put it on yourself in fact it's illegal now in like a bunch of different places
00:08:06.460 like hawaii it's illegal to use that okay because it's killing off the coral reef which is ironic
00:08:11.240 because they wait until the coral reef starts dying and then they start doing the legal stuff
00:08:15.100 as opposed to waiting until people yeah it doesn't matter that men are growing breasts it's when
00:08:21.240 you know the coral reef starts to die that they're going to do something about it um kind of as a
00:08:27.360 side note because i'm always fascinated by the way society behaves and i almost want to say lately but
00:08:34.820 it's not lately it's it's it's almost been like this for a while now but it just seems more obvious
00:08:39.560 to me now that i'm an older guy that we're kind of pussified right like it and i wonder how much
00:08:46.260 you know because of sunscreen because of toiletries because of our diet like i go to the gym it's not
00:08:53.640 open right now here in toronto but when i go to the gym i mean there's guys in the change room with
00:08:57.720 breasts like literally with female breast tissue um there's a big change in society in general like
00:09:04.860 do you think that these um i mean not just the endocrine disruptors like the standard stuff that i was
00:09:10.660 familiar with before like um you know bluetooth wi-fi and stuff like that you know having your cell phone
00:09:14.940 your pants you know closer johnson all that but um is is a combination of all this in your estimation
00:09:22.220 what's what's creating a lot of this weakness in society like the general pacification of the west
00:09:27.860 i think so because if you do animal studies with these chemicals like if you give them if you give
00:09:32.660 rats bpa or phthalates you know which again are those are in personal care phthalates are particularly
00:09:38.700 common in personal care products or parabens you give those to rats and the male rats just are
00:09:43.860 completely apathetic they're not interested in females uh they call it male feminization you even
00:09:49.480 see gonad changes you know like for example they have reduced anal genital distance if you want to
00:09:55.220 get super technical they literally does that mean in layman's terms it is feminized like women have a
00:10:00.500 an anal genital distance like the between their vagina and their genital their anus it's a lot shorter
00:10:06.060 than males okay so that's like a it's a hormone initiated you know process so that changes in males too
00:10:13.280 if you give them a bunch of estrogens yes really you see a bunch of biological i mean you mentioned
00:10:19.360 one of them man boobs right obviously that's an estrogenic feminization most scientists don't like
00:10:25.180 to call it feminization because it's kind of a politically brave term to say these days but i
00:10:30.480 call it feminization i mean there's definitely scientific research papers that literally use the
00:10:34.300 term feminization and that's what it is so yeah it's brain it changes the brain it changes the body
00:10:41.000 it can happen more to a greater degree to a lesser degree like for example lavender makes
00:10:46.680 makes the list in my book lavender essential oil which is one that a lot of people don't think about
00:10:52.340 because a lot of health people are using lavender and you know it's promoted as a healthy thing i mean
00:10:57.400 it is anti-inflammatory but they discovered that lavender essential oil acts like estrogen in the new
00:11:02.900 england journal of medicine they published a study where they had a bunch of children like nine month
00:11:06.840 old babies that started developing breasts and going into puberty and they removed all the lavender
00:11:12.740 from their personal care stuff because that was the common theme they found and all of them basically
00:11:18.240 you know they reversed all of those issues and then they did an additional study on lavender essential oil
00:11:25.080 and they measured the estrogen receptor activation so does it flip on the light switch right and it does
00:11:30.320 so that's an even more powerful example of you know yeah you see it but if you actually look at the
00:11:36.680 estrogen receptor again i'm a biochemist so that's the what i that's the study i want to see to prove
00:11:42.160 that it acts like estrogen and sure enough it does and they've tested multiple brands a lot of people
00:11:45.840 say well that's your lavender essential oil i get stuff from this brand or that brand and mine is co2
00:11:51.820 extracted and all this kind of fancy thing but right it's it's not it's not necessarily brand dependent
00:11:58.900 because they tested multiple brands yeah there's a lot of guys that um have ego investments in
00:12:04.180 certain brands or even you know types of food like soy is a big one you know in the space that i work
00:12:10.780 in a lot of guys will make fun of weaker men and call them soy like you know you know soy boyers
00:12:17.080 or something like that and then they'll always have their vegan counterparts come in and try to defend soy
00:12:22.380 um you know with all kinds of narratives and stories about how it's not bad for you but throughout
00:12:28.600 your entire book you talk about soy in quite great lengths right so what is the what is the sum of
00:12:36.660 all these uh parts when it comes to soy like is soy good or bad for men well that's a good question i i
00:12:43.000 mean what's funny about soy every scientist agrees it acts like estrogen so you at least have to start
00:12:49.120 the conversation there because even the vegans that say it's good for you they admit it acts like estrogen
00:12:54.480 so you know that alone for most men is enough to say okay i don't want to have more soy in my food
00:13:00.940 and by the way arguments that they tend to push a lot of is like you'd have to eat like buckets of soy
00:13:06.080 to convert that much estrogen in your body for it to be harmful is it is it really that much or is it
00:13:11.400 like no sushi if i put soy like if i dip my macchi rolls into soy sauce is that bad enough to disrupt
00:13:18.100 my endocrine system to you know for that day good question yeah so in canada ironically they did a
00:13:23.600 food study with over 100 food items plant foods and all of the plants were under 1000 units of estrogen
00:13:29.920 except soy and flax soy and flax were over 100 000 units of estrogen so it was like a night and day
00:13:36.720 difference between soy and flax and everything else and what was cool about that study they tested soy
00:13:42.440 sauce so they tested natto and all these different you know naturally fermented soy products all of those
00:13:49.360 were under 100 units of estrogen so the actual soy 100 000 even soy protein was in the thousands right
00:13:56.560 like a lot of the soy products but as soon as you include natural fermentation those microorganisms chew
00:14:02.920 up all those estrogens and it depends a lot on your gut health so if you've got a crappy gut
00:14:06.880 you know your those soy estrogens are going to go into your bloodstream a lot more have a lot bigger
00:14:11.360 impact if your gut's super healthy your gut bacteria are probably going to break a lot of them down
00:14:15.760 it's pretty risky and the other thing is there's a more complicated argument a lot of vegans will
00:14:20.260 propose at a scientific level where there's there's actually when you have testosterone in your body
00:14:24.700 there's only one receptor it's called the testosterone the androgen receptor but with estrogens there's
00:14:29.240 actually two receptors that stick to it and one's called estrogen receptor alpha and the other one's
00:14:33.940 called estrogen receptor beta so alpha and beta and everybody recognizes in the scientific community
00:14:38.920 alpha is pretty problematic alpha receptor increases breast cancer risk in women it increases
00:14:44.120 prostate cancer in men it's problematic you don't want to be activating the alpha receptor beta receptor
00:14:49.200 is actually protective in in terms of estrogen so estrogen has a lot of protective benefits to it
00:14:54.340 if you're activating the beta receptor it's protective against prostate cancer it's protective against breast
00:14:58.780 cancer and a lot of other things so the argument most vegans like to propose is that the soy activates
00:15:05.540 the beta receptor and they you know michael greger dr michael greger big you know youtube star within the vegan
00:15:12.220 community he's the big proponent of this argument and he cites a study that i've looked at and he
00:15:16.540 said look look at figure one in this paper it shows beta activation and only a little bit of alpha with
00:15:22.160 soy what's what's ironic about that paper is figure two shows the exact opposite in a different person
00:15:27.880 so it's very person dependent again way too risky and you know i didn't get into that much we i didn't get
00:15:34.400 into the weeds that much in my book i tried to make it really easy for anybody to read but yeah if you
00:15:38.760 really if you're really honest with yourself and you really dig into the science i mean soy is
00:15:42.300 estrogenic it's something people should avoid yeah and so is uh flaxseed oil which is something i used
00:15:48.040 to like routinely blend into my protein shakes for a long time um i learned flaxseed was estrogenic about
00:15:54.400 two years ago so i took that out on my diet um you know soy has obviously been out of my diet for a long
00:15:59.960 time because i knew that was garbage but um i mean there's still a lot of soy products out there and
00:16:04.420 it's infused in a lot of foods i mean it's a filler in a lot of foods i mean even mentioned
00:16:07.920 um in the book if you buy something that's labeled vegetable oil 30 of it could be soy right you know
00:16:14.640 because soy is a vegetable so um soy is something like soy is something that all men should should
00:16:21.160 skip like is that what you're saying or correct unless it's fermented soy sauce fine put a ton of
00:16:25.740 it on your food okay so fermented is fine so sushi is good you're good with your sushi you can
00:16:30.420 yeah awesome okay all right i don't have to move away from my uh sushi place man because i got this
00:16:37.000 great boutique joint that does some good awesome does some good work um okay so let's talk about
00:16:42.580 some uh stuff that we're putting in our body was when it comes to food beyond soy and flax um you also
00:16:49.780 mentioned a lot with packaging plastic packaging um there's been a big movement lately and a lot of
00:16:55.760 people will still buy plastic bottles and drink things out of plastic bottles because it says bpa
00:17:00.320 free um but there's still like estrogenics in these plastics yeah oh yeah can you talk about that for
00:17:07.660 a little bit yeah for sure so uh when the when so 17 states at least in america outlawed bpa for
00:17:14.480 children's products what the companies did instead of using bisphenol a which is this bpa they made
00:17:19.960 bisphenol s which is literally if they've done studies it's just as estrogenic as bpa it acts like
00:17:26.080 estrogen in your body just as much as bpa but now they can say bpa free and now they're using bps
00:17:31.260 and so it sounds good and if they don't want to use bps they can use bpf and they can use bpaf and
00:17:37.620 they can literally use like a whole alphabet of different chemicals that are just as estrogenic
00:17:41.960 as bpa but sometimes they don't use any of the bisphenols and they just use phthalates so it's plastic
00:17:47.340 number one in the little recycling symbol on the bottom of the plastic that's full of phthalates
00:17:51.740 and phthalates are also estrogenic so generally you just want to be really cautious of plastic
00:17:56.460 there are plastics out there that don't have estrogen but it's it's pretty hard to find them
00:18:01.780 it's not super common some companies are really careful about it most companies you can't find it
00:18:06.280 in glass or stainless steel right like it's exactly glass is great stainless is great exactly it's not
00:18:11.640 and silicone packaging i think you said was also good for storing food yep silicone is good
00:18:17.080 um so as far as any other foods to avoid beyond soy and flax what else should men keep their eyes
00:18:24.900 out for well smoking cannabis actually acts like estrogen as well um not the edibles for some
00:18:30.900 reason just the smoke oh that's interesting and not the thc so vaping is vaping is fine okay there's
00:18:37.520 something about smoking because it's the combustion of the the plant versus the cooking of it exactly
00:18:42.860 yeah that's interesting so there's something about that so it doesn't mean you can never have it
00:18:46.880 it just means you know if you're adding that on top of all the plastics and all the sunscreens and
00:18:52.100 all the other shit well then you've got potential issues and that and you see it like in teenagers you
00:18:57.120 see more infertility and that sort of thing and in teenagers that are regular smokers of cannabis
00:19:01.160 um but other than that you know yeah there's also estrogenics in the drinking water too because
00:19:07.480 every woman that's on birth control pills that's peeing out the ee2 into the septic system they can't
00:19:15.460 clean that out with the water treatment plant so it ends up back in the water system and a lot of
00:19:20.040 people are drinking untreated water that has estrogen in it exactly i think you mentioned in
00:19:26.280 your book that it that you have to have a charcoal water filter so i've got a i think it's a five stage
00:19:31.820 reverse osmosis water filtration system am i good yep yeah reverse osmosis gets them out okay so would
00:19:39.180 like a brita filter do for people because that's a charcoal system too isn't it yep yep they have
00:19:44.140 charcoal in those and just make sure every once in a while i find a filter that doesn't have
00:19:48.060 activated charcoal and it's crazy but it does they do exist so you do want to double check but most of
00:19:53.740 them are good like that okay um so we dealt with water we dealt with foods we dealt with what about
00:19:59.940 toiletries um i did a video a couple weeks ago talking about fragrances and some guys lost their
00:20:06.300 like they lost their shit because it's like oh you say so you know you said something bad bad about my
00:20:11.740 man fragrance and it works on women and i get the girls and you don't know what you're talking
00:20:16.120 about it's like dude i i knew 20 years ago this stuff was crap can you talk about uh toiletries and
00:20:23.200 fragrances in general when it comes to putting that stuff on your body too oh yeah well i mean they
00:20:28.280 intentionally put phthalates in most of them unless it specifically says phthalate free paraben free
00:20:33.360 they're usually putting phthalates and parabens and both of those are acting like estrogen
00:20:37.560 and i've talked to chemists about this like why do you guys put it in there i mean number one it's
00:20:42.540 a lot cheaper right these are petroleum products they can cheat they can use them as cheap fillers
00:20:46.180 put like 80 to 90 percent of this cheap stuff in there and put a little bit of fragrance but the
00:20:50.460 argument they make is that it carries the fragrance further through the air problem with that is you're
00:20:55.660 putting on your skin it's acting like estrogen it's just another source of estrogen so and it's in
00:20:59.720 the shampoos too you know so yeah that stuff you got to be cautious with and get decent quality
00:21:05.020 personal care products across the board soaps you know so when somebody argues that they spend
00:21:09.340 200 on their cologne and it's got that strong fragrance it's it's got phthalates and parabens in
00:21:15.500 it a lot of the time most of the time yeah i mean unless it says pal paraben free phthalate free
00:21:21.000 it it will no they'll spend more money on the packaging with uh stainless steel and and crystallized
00:21:27.640 bottles to you know catch the eye with marketing than they will putting a quality product in the bottle

00:22:54.020 take to dive into the dna thing it takes a while it depends how deep you want to go um well i don't
00:23:00.960 know how many pages it was it seemed like it was like 15 it's like 15 pages but you know there's a
00:23:06.120 lot of pages where you have good genes and there's not it's not necessary to cover a lot of those good

00:23:38.680 they did a study with radioactive collagen because there's a lot of scientific debate about whether it
00:23:43.180 actually goes to your joints and your discs and your back and you think you know your stomach acid
00:23:48.860 breaks all this collagen down into individual building blocks and that just disperses into
00:23:52.840 your body right well they gave rats radioactive collagen and then they measured the radioactivity
00:23:57.720 and almost all of it was in their joints so it's phenomenal for your joints if you want to take
00:24:02.320 collagen it your body can reconstruct it but it does break down into the building blocks but then
00:24:06.640 it reconstructs into the joints so i'm a huge fan of collagen and is that from animal based uh protein
00:24:11.600 powders yeah correct um your book talked a lot about dairy products and milk specifically
00:24:17.700 can we spend some time on that because a lot of people still eat eat a lot of dairy especially
00:24:23.020 kids too right yeah and that's definitely another source of estrogen depending on where you're getting
00:24:27.820 the dairy um and in fact for you you've got some genes speaking of your genetics if you don't mind
00:24:34.440 right i mean you have some genes where you're probably sensitive to dairy it's going to cause more
00:24:38.280 inflammation in you than most people have you have you experienced that um as in like uh bloating and
