RadixJournal - Hormone Suppressants

00:00:00.000 And I know I'm very late on this, A, and B, this sounds like I'm just discussing slop.

00:00:09.360 But on Labor Day, I actually went to see Spider-Man Brand New Day.

00:00:19.800 I went alone in the afternoon.

00:00:22.560 No, just I took my two of my kids to go see Spider-Man brand new day.

00:00:31.760 And I have to say, I thought that that was a very good movie and it's a very interesting movie.

00:00:41.740 And Mark had seen it earlier than I had.

00:00:47.780 And he made some comments and I didn't quite know what he was talking about

00:00:51.860 because I hadn't seen it yet but after I saw what I got what he was talking about and I was like oh

00:00:59.800 yeah there is something going on so first off let me just talk about my initial impressions

00:01:06.460 I had so my two of my kids are in the Spider-Man binge and so I've watched one of the earlier

00:01:17.980 toby mcguire spider-man movies and i think it was number it was the second one with dr octopus and

00:01:26.780 yes i thought that was a pretty good movie i liked it definitely not my favorite and then

00:01:35.200 we watched one of the tom holland ones i think it might be the first one where i i remember the big

00:01:42.860 scene comes when they're in washington dc and he has to like climb up the washington monument

00:01:47.700 and even from the very beginning of that movie there is all this like woke ironic woke stuff

00:01:59.260 um i can't even remember the joke but it's just happening right from the start and then with mj

00:02:07.540 played played by zendaya who's of course in every movie she's just there to frown um she does

00:02:14.580 something with her history or debate teacher and and and she's like no i would uh rather not go to

00:02:22.020 the washington monument i would not like to celebrate something that was built by slaves

00:02:28.420 well first off maybe a rejoinder would be wouldn't you want to celebrate something

00:02:33.540 created by slaves i mean isn't that woke in fact but no she doesn't want to have anything to do

00:02:39.940 with it kind of you know anyway i won't tease out arguments against woke but uh the whole movie

00:02:49.620 struck me as annoying and i think that tom holland is a good actor and i liked him uh i linked a lot

00:03:01.200 of what he was doing um and they had an interesting villain who was like michael keaton who was a

00:03:08.780 vulture am i conflating two movies here i might be but just no you're right um the what i disliked

00:03:18.200 about that era of the marvel universe and i believe that came out in 2016 or 2017 so it's

00:03:25.060 been a little while but it feels like it was just released the tobey maguire's feel a little bit

00:03:30.840 older 2000s era hollywood but is this everyone's smart everyone's snappy everyone's brilliant

00:03:39.180 everyone's professional they had this um awful chief of staff to tony stark who's you know

00:03:48.280 constantly on the phone talking to people played by um uh someone who's actually a director he

00:03:54.340 directed the lion king don fabbro he actually directed the first iron man as well interesting

00:04:01.160 um which i have not seen that movie many years but i think that might be one of the better

00:04:06.660 uh marvel movies just because it kept it simple um but he was there playing this sort of just

00:04:14.480 you know professional chief of staff everyone quips constantly everyone's good hearted it just

00:04:24.240 it drove i just found it i found it to be slop i found it annoying and i i just didn't i couldn't

00:04:34.800 get it took me out of the movie very often the fact that all of these people were like

00:04:41.540 idealized versions of the woke libtard like how the woke libtard sees himself or herself

00:04:50.380 and I just found it I just didn't like it and so I was expecting more of that going into brand new

00:04:58.380 day but I have to say it was a more mature movie now there's some of that stuff of course but it

00:05:06.540 was a more mature movie and some of that had to do with the fact that Tom Holland is is older now

00:05:13.940 and we're kind of looking back at the spider-man past and he do in the third or fourth spider-man

00:05:21.060 he he like wiped everyone's memory so they didn't remember anything and so he's like you know

00:05:27.840 reaching out to try to reconnect with mj and his pal ned but he can't so there's a little bit of

00:05:35.400 tragedy going on but it just struck me as a much more mature movie and i think hollywood

00:05:42.740 recognize that all of that ironic quip stuff just has to be thrown out the window at some point

00:05:51.880 it just doesn't work anymore it's cringe it's you have to have a little bit of darkness and

00:05:59.580 i mean you can compare the treatment of the hulk i haven't seen all the marvel movies but

00:06:05.880 i i did see you know infinity war in game i probably saw both of them and the hulk like he

00:06:12.920 controls his powers and the hulk just sort of becomes a joke basically he's like a nice hulk

00:06:19.220 and here the hulk actually was a terrifying figure it it was an out of control rage monster

00:06:27.780 that you would have to release when all other options were out and he can create unintended

00:06:36.520 consequences and he'll damage everything and damage you if you release him and i i thought it

00:06:43.640 was a very it it sort of made the hulk kind of scary in a way that he wasn't before when the

00:06:51.580 hulk was just your friend and so i i thought there were a lot of interesting things that were well

00:06:56.840 done they also had jean gray so i guess marvel now owns the x-men universe and jean gray is there

00:07:04.040 and she's sort of a tortured genius you feel sorry for her but then she that makes her all the more

00:07:10.480 dangerous and she's able to like jump into people's heads and take on their consciousness 0.92

00:07:16.580 and possession basically is what they call it and i thought that was cool i thought the depiction

00:07:21.800 was really interesting and uh it was you know it was a villain you just feel sorry for her enough

00:07:29.380 but she is definitely dangerous and and she's kind of damaged but then becomes this you know 0.96

00:07:35.340 egomaniac due to her powers it's very interesting so overall i thought that you know you could say 0.88

00:07:42.840 that marvel movies are over gen z doesn't even like them and it's all cringe and that is the

00:07:50.880 impression i get like whenever a marvel movie will play on my autoplay on twitter i'm just like oh my

00:07:56.160 god please this is the most annoying thing i've ever seen in my life but this one i found good

00:08:03.160 and i think maybe there was a bit of a course correction now the other thing about it and i

00:08:08.120 haven't researched this but has anyone been discussing the possibility that the film is a

00:08:19.140 kind of metaphor for gender transition surgery and hormone suppressants. Because Mark mentioned

00:08:28.300 this, but I'm sort of shocked that the right hasn't picked up on this. Maybe they are just so

00:08:37.240 hard-headed that they can't. Because the moral of the story, the movie is about the fact that

00:08:46.380 might not want to suppress your hormones so i'll i'll go back to it so hulk has been able to suppress

00:08:53.100 his hormones his his like rage hormones through some device and this gives peter parker the idea

00:09:02.060 that he might need to do the same thing himself because due to loneliness the fact that he can't

00:09:09.340 be with mj just a sort of inner rage his uh arachnid spider hormones because when he got

00:09:17.340 bit by the irradiated spider their dna combined you know all this comic book stuff but

00:09:23.020 that basically that spider hormone is sort of taking over and when it does his his eyes go

00:09:30.180 black and he becomes this you know psychopathic killer almost would have been cool if they had

00:09:37.000 him kill someone uh but that would be a little too much for marvel but at one point when he's 0.92

00:09:45.360 speaking with mj he mj says something like well you know and mj doesn't know him at this point

00:09:50.660 because her memory has been wiped and all this and and she says you know well i think you're a good

00:09:55.560 guy but you're going through changes that maybe you can't control right now or something you know

00:10:01.240 something like this and the the whole the moral of the parable was basically that it doesn't you

00:10:10.340 can suppress this hormone or that one but you're still the same person and spider-man is able to

00:10:17.040 be the spider and is able to defeat all of his enemies but he's still peter parker so he can

00:10:22.740 still not kill people at the end of the day and do what's right but he might need some of that

00:10:30.260 evil dark energy and so if anything it was a more a message about not doing hormone therapy

00:10:42.180 i mean i don't i can't has anyone else picked up on this or has anyone else written about this

00:10:48.360 i'm not you know in touch with the marvel universe i can go do a basic search

00:10:53.080 but i just feel like this is clearly the way that the message resonates so it's it's sort of you

00:11:01.280 know with gem there's overt things and then there's deeper things and then there's really

00:11:07.740 the deepest thing which is gem so for instance uh darren aronofsky's film the wrestler which is a

00:11:14.420 very so it's a good movie and it's a very easy movie as a parable so on the ostensibly overtly

00:11:24.760 the wrestler is a sort of image of the 1980s or america at its peak he is hulk holgan and he

00:11:35.120 is now past his prime he's older living in a van down by the river and he's estranged from his

00:11:42.160 daughter and so that's sort of the overt message there's a deeper like one layer down there's a

00:11:49.720 little bit of a geopolitical message going on here and i think the um the wrestler came out in either

00:11:55.960 2008 or 2010 so the wrestler does represent america and it's interesting that he is going

00:12:06.480 to war with his arch nemesis who is the ayatollah so you have this let's just say

00:12:14.160 enemy of israel that the wrestler is fuming about and ultimately has to confront

00:12:22.940 and at the end of the film uh the ram robinson does his iconic dive onto the mat from the top

00:12:34.900 of the ropes is that excuse me and although it's not depicted on screen the assumption is that he

00:12:43.800 dies he dies fighting the ayatollah and so on that Austin you know on that upper layer it's kind of

00:12:51.900 like well you know yeah sure you could be responsible and you could be a good dad but

00:12:58.640 maybe at the end of the day you're just a wrestler and you should just go for it and die doing

00:13:04.220 something your love maybe that's one message that could be taken back of taken from it or maybe a

00:13:08.980 more tragic message he's trapped in as the wrestler he can't move on it's a tragedy on a on a second

00:13:17.120 layer deep it's geopolitics and yeah he represents an aging decadent america but he represents an

00:13:25.740 aging decadent america that might have to go to war with iran it's a sort of neoconservative

00:13:32.580 message and that might strike people as counterintuitive at the very least shocking to come

00:13:40.820 from hollywood but uh i don't think we're making too much of a stretch here to say that american

00:13:49.020 icon hulk holgan or the ram robinson is uh attacking uh the ayatollah is this that much

00:13:58.780 of a stretch that there are some geopolitical resonances going on here. And so the notion is

00:14:04.380 that the ram is going to die while attacking the enemy of Israel, Iran. Interesting. But you can 0.82

00:14:14.260 actually go even deeper, and that's where you get to real Jim. So he's the ram Robinson, a 0.79

00:14:21.580 sacrificial ram. At one point, when he leaves his job at the grocery store, he's actually slicing

00:14:28.240 ham or luncheon meats and he starts slicing his own hand he starts making himself the sacrificial

00:14:35.720 victim so he is the ram that will be destroyed and in leviticus he is the sacrifice he is the

00:14:49.180 scapegoat and he has uh and i think these are actually the um the tattoos of mickey rourke and

00:14:56.960 not just the character, but there are these big Jesus tattoos.

00:15:01.040 Jesus is two things.

00:15:02.660 Jesus is a scapegoat sacrifice, but Jesus is also the Messiah. 0.57

00:15:08.240 There are two Jesuses.

00:15:10.640 There's two layers to his soul. 0.99

00:15:13.260 And the Ram Robinson can only fulfill that first layer. 0.78

00:15:18.700 So right there, you have three layers,

00:15:21.700 and one of them is the ostensible thing,

00:15:23.840 the thing you might talk about after you see the movie.

00:15:26.960 you know, what a great character, but, you know, maybe he lived his best life. What? He was trapped

00:15:32.680 in a dream of his youth, and he couldn't be a father to his daughter. Oh, you can have a

00:15:37.020 conversation. There's a kind of deeper level of, you know, this makes me think about geopolitics

00:15:42.600 and attacking Iran. Then there's a deeper level, which is genuinely esoteric. It's not seen. I 0.85

00:15:49.860 mean, it's seen, it's gestured to, but only symbolically, you could only look at it askance.

00:15:56.960 And that is the root gem that he himself is the sacrificial animal.

00:16:03.400 And all of these reinforce one another.

00:16:06.480 That's what makes a good movie.

00:16:08.240 The parable reinforces one another. 0.67

00:16:10.920 So he's the sacrificial lamb that's going to be thrown at the geopolitical enemies of Israel. 0.72

00:16:17.980 And he's America. 0.69

00:16:20.720 Or an American, but sort of America itself.

00:16:23.360 past its prime, trying to relive its glory days, maybe good-hearted at the end of the day,

00:16:31.220 and lovable, but also drug-addled and selfish. So all three layers of the story work together.

00:16:42.080 I use that just as an example here. I think the hormone suppressant story seems to be on that

00:16:50.160 second level in the sense that you know if you ask a marvel fan oh do you think that uh spider-man

00:16:59.300 brand new day is about uh the fact that this hormone suppressant business is just a disaster

00:17:05.080 we shouldn't do it um they would be like oh what are you talking about no in in issue 75

00:17:12.740 uh spider-man uh actually suppresses the spider hormone with a uh irradiated flower

00:17:19.440 just it's just all that nonsense that comic book people are into but it clearly is and i actually

00:17:27.820 think on that second level of the esoteric it's something that i think many people will

00:17:35.280 perceive consciously and many people won't perceive it consciously but it will be

00:17:41.200 bubbling in their unconscious, and they will get the message, you know, one way or another.

00:17:48.320 Now, Mark is suggesting, and I think this is true, if there is like a deeper gem level, 0.84

00:17:54.160 then this notion of the power suppressant, hormone suppressant, is suppressing Judaism. 0.95

00:18:01.520 Are you going to be a good Gentile, or are you going to be the spider? 0.75

00:18:07.640 and in some ways you shouldn't suppress that so i i think spider-man brand new day 0.95

00:18:13.540 probably does have those three levels to it and the first one is overt this is a mature sad

00:18:21.820 spider-man everyone gets that the second one is semi-conscious you could say and the third one

00:18:29.700 is deeply unconscious and maybe only known to a few but what's interesting is that all three

00:18:37.120 levels in a good story or parable reinforce one another so anyway just uh some thoughts uh i if

00:18:45.940 you don't have to go see this movie um it's not exactly citizen kane but it is good
