00:04:13.280 employees and what did you look for necessarily in the beginning of your
00:04:17.260 business, um, versus to how your hiring system looks and works now? Uh, this
00:04:22.100 person, I'm a really small business owner and right now no one wants to work. So what
00:04:26.220 are the ways that you attract workers in an industry that requires people? Well,
00:04:30.120 look, man, first of all, how I did it in the beginning is how everybody does it in
00:04:37.000 the beginning. You, you, you talk to your friends, you ask your friends, people that
00:04:40.840 you know and say, Hey man, would you want to pick up some time? And you know, you
00:04:44.940 kind of work this human patchwork of people to help you get it going. You pay
00:04:50.540 them, um, well, and you know, you start to build the structure of your business.
00:04:56.280 And then as you scale, you become, you know, more and more experienced and
00:05:02.420 understand the systems, uh, that need to be created to produce the kind of person
00:05:08.580 that you want. Um, and, and I said, produce the kind of person you want, not, not hire the
00:05:15.940 kind of person you want. And you need to make a note of that because there is no way
00:05:20.520 to hire people that are guaranteed winners. It's always a roll of the dice. Um, but the
00:05:27.140 best thing that you can do is to create a framework for them that rewards them based
00:05:31.860 upon their progression. Um, and ultimately, you know, success in, in the company. But I
00:05:39.820 think the real, the real answer to this question is, is not the question that was
00:05:43.660 asked. Um, the real answer to this question is how do I get people to believe
00:05:50.320 in my company vision? How do I get people to see the future I see for my company and
00:05:56.520 how do I inspire them to want to be a part of that so that they come to work and
00:06:03.060 yes, they get paid, but they don't come to work to get paid. They come to work to
00:06:06.820 build. And that's really what you're asking for. Okay. You're not asking for, well, you
00:06:15.400 maybe, maybe don't know you're asking this, but I'm just giving you the fucking the icing
00:06:19.060 on the cupcake. All right, bro. So the reality is, is your job is to paint such a great vision
00:06:25.540 that you fully intend on fulfilling and you take action on fulfilling. That is so big that
00:06:33.760 the people who want to join your network or your company or your, your, whatever it is
00:06:39.940 you're building, your organization, because their dreams fit inside of that vision. Okay.

00:06:55.940 why it's important. I think to look at people who you trust people who believe in you as a,

00:07:14.000 be focused on, man, is, you know, building out the vision of what you want to do, because dude,
00:07:19.620 if you're building a company that is just designed to get you paid at a certain level, it's going to be
00:07:26.100 very hard for you to continuously attract people that want to contribute to that because that's
00:07:32.720 not what people exist to do. People don't exist to show up to work, to work hard. So you can get
00:07:38.420 fucking paid, right? They show up to work hard, to contribute to something amazing that they can
00:07:44.300 also make a great living doing and fulfill their financial goals and dreams. And your part in that
00:07:51.580 is to not only paint the vision, but provide the path to follow through on the big vision.

00:10:32.640 that vision are the key to attracting people that want to help you build. Yeah. You have to take care

00:12:41.300 for their employees so that they get the same feeling? Well, I think ice cream is even easier
00:12:46.140 than we do because ice cream is fucking something people want, not something people need. I get
00:12:51.120 your point. So how you're asking how I would do it to your employees so that they're not coming in
00:12:56.520 and just selling ice cream. What kind of vision would you provide for you? Well, if I were building
00:13:00.680 an ice cream, let's just say I, how I would do it. Okay. Andy's custard. Well, no, Andy's custard

00:14:51.680 around was bringing back the family experience. And then I would backwork the culture around that
00:14:58.640 internally in the office. Like, Hey, we're doing good things. We're bringing families together.

00:15:07.540 further to facilitate that. Right. Um, and then there's all kinds of other reasons that you would,
00:15:13.300 you would do that, you know, in terms of like what the mission would be, but ultimately, man,
00:15:18.200 the mission of that company is to bring happiness and conversation and connection. So how would we
00:15:23.800 connect that to our culture system? You know, I would come up with core values that reflect that,
00:15:29.580 um, which would be very similar to ours, what we already do. And you know, uh, maybe try to make
00:15:36.100 healthier ice creams, things like that. Maybe, but that's not really why people go there.

00:18:40.800 have been 2005. Okay. Okay. We're riding on the road 2006. Cause it was right when I moved back
00:18:47.240 to St. Louis from Springfield. And, um, as you guys know, I had to move back in with my dad after
00:18:52.880 fucking seven years of running my business. Um, I was driving down the road in the pickup truck
00:18:59.300 and you know, my dad came from the, the electrical contracting business. So like when I was a kid,
00:19:06.540 you know, we would go to these little barbecues and they'd have a barbecue set up and all the,
00:19:13.320 all the, uh, electricians and contractors and workers would stop by and they'd get a fucking
00:19:18.780 bratwurst or salsa or fucking, uh, you know, hot dog or whatever, hamburger and a beer and some chips.

00:19:46.680 cab and Oscar was in the middle of me and my dad. I remember this perfectly because this is an idea.

00:19:57.360 thing that you guys were able to do that we can't do is you were able to do like barbecues and connect

00:21:50.920 standard for what most of these companies trying to be at this point in time. And I'm, I say that
00:21:54.720 humbly. Okay. Um, there's lots of, lots of younger companies that are coming up that I respect
00:21:59.780 that are doing great things, uh, that I appreciate. And, and, you know, we work with most of those
00:22:04.240 companies, uh, in some capacity through our retail system or whatever. Um, so I'm not saying that
00:22:10.320 with disrespect, but even when you're doing the, even when you're the very best, you know,
00:22:16.960 sometimes people just want to try something different and that gives you an opportunity
00:22:21.460 that just because people's propensity of choice of wanting a choice or something different,
