00:00:00.000 What is up guys, you're listening to the MFCEO Project. I'm Andy, I'm your host and I am
00:00:13.100 the motherfucking CEO. Guys, today we are going to cover something that is very, very
00:00:18.980 crucial and important to the growth of small companies that are seeing a little bit of
00:00:26.320 success. You've started the company, you've got something going, you have something, you
00:00:30.940 have some momentum, you might have some employees, maybe you're making some money, okay? There
00:00:37.900 are three huge mistakes that we see companies make over and over and over again and I want
00:00:45.800 to review those with you guys. And a lot of these have to do with personal views and actions
00:00:51.720 on what you take, how you act, what you do when you come to work. So it can not only
00:00:57.380 apply just to the company, but ultimately how the company performs is how the person
00:01:01.720 thinks, acts and performs on a daily basis. So even if you're not the guy who owns the
00:01:06.700 company and you're just a regular guy who's in a job trying to work his way up, this is
00:01:12.000 important to understand. So don't tune out just because you think that because you don't
00:01:16.040 own a company, it's not relevant. It is. Usually, I'm here with Vaughn. Vaughn's not
00:01:20.900 here today. So I'm going to give you guys something that's short, sweet, and very, very,
00:01:26.980 very important. All right? Guys, when everybody starts a company, they get excited. They want
00:01:32.980 to start a company, they want to make money, they want to be successful, and I get that.
00:01:38.240 And a lot of companies don't even get that far. They don't get as far as it takes to have
00:01:43.360 some sales, have some money coming in, have some profitability. Most people fail before
00:01:48.060 that ever even happens. But let's just say that you get to that point. You're selling
00:01:52.360 some product, you're doing some good shit, you may be taking home a paycheck, a decent
00:01:58.340 paycheck, and you're starting to feel like things are going your way. These three points
00:02:03.060 are huge factors that you're going to want to avoid. Okay? So the first point is this.
00:02:08.300 A lot of companies that have success, as they become more and more successful, they get
00:02:16.300 away from the little details that got them where they are. Okay? And this can be in customer
00:02:20.840 service. This can be in attention to detail on the product quality. This can be in how they
00:02:25.840 handle the transactions. It's little bitty things, guys. Things that the normal person
00:02:32.280 wouldn't even notice. All right? We're talking about, hey, you used to keep the floors perfectly
00:02:37.140 clean. Well, now the floors aren't perfectly clean every day because you're a little bit
00:02:40.920 busier. Okay? And you can't do the little things. Those little things, guys, you writing
00:02:48.360 a handwritten thank you card to your customers, you calling your customers to check up on them,
00:02:53.380 you emailing your customers to check up on them, you taking the time to go shake hands,
00:02:58.280 you taking the time to put detail into your product, you taking the time to do all those little
00:03:02.740 bitty things that have gotten you where you are, that you get so busy and you say, well,
00:03:07.900 those are the little things that we can let go. No. Those are not the little things that
00:03:12.360 you can let go. Those are the things that got you where the fuck you are. And the minute
00:03:17.180 you start to cut those little details out is the minute you start to create your demise.
00:03:23.240 Okay? So always look at the little details as the big things. All right? Don't sweep them under
00:03:29.940 a rug because you're getting busy. You think you're a fucking celebrity because you own a
00:03:33.360 business. You're making some money. You're doing something. No. And usually, guys, when you start
00:03:38.480 to see an issue, you can go back to the little bitty details that you used to do that got you
00:03:43.000 where you are and you'll find out that you aren't executing on those details. So guys, always execute
00:03:49.300 on the small details. Always make sure that you're executing on those details and putting the proper
00:03:55.040 attention on those details. Big companies get away from it and it creates a huge gap for other
00:04:00.940 companies to come in and fucking take them out. All right? So the details matter. All right? Point
00:04:06.120 number two, we see this is a big culture issue. Okay? A lot of companies, small businesses start out
00:04:12.580 and they think that because they're growing and they're becoming bigger and they're becoming more
00:04:17.660 quote unquote corporate that they have to start pretending to be this corporate environment. They start
00:04:24.680 having pointless meetings. They have a boring work environment. They create a situation where
00:04:29.900 their employees are unhappy and have to go through useless motions just to get shit done. A bureaucracy,
00:04:35.640 so to speak. Guys, that ruins company culture. That will keep people from producing the best work.
00:04:43.820 It will keep you from attracting the best people and it will cause your best people to look elsewhere
00:04:49.920 because they're unhappy. Don't create an environment because you think you're supposed to create
00:04:56.380 environment because you're growing. If you grew, if you, if you're a business, you know, this is
00:05:01.900 something that I see young business owners struggle with the most. They think they've got to do things
00:05:06.900 a certain way because everybody else does them. No, that's not it. Your job as a business owner should
00:05:11.480 be to take the pulse of your culture, figure out exactly who the fuck you are and roll with that.
00:05:17.820 All right. If you're not a big corporate formal environment, don't fucking be one. Okay.
00:05:24.580 When you start to try to be something that's inauthentic, you lose the respect of your customers.
00:05:28.820 You lose the respect of your employees and you lose the identity of the business was creates a
00:05:32.660 situation where you don't know where you went wrong. So all of a sudden sales will start going down.
00:05:38.060 Production starts going down. People start leaving. You start having turnover and you don't
00:05:42.200 understand what's going on. Well, what's going on is, is you're presenting a false reality of what you
00:05:46.620 really are. So being who you are and, and operating in an authentic culture environment is a super,
00:05:52.980 super, super crucial detail that a lot of companies, you know, they get out of because
00:05:58.780 they feel like they're getting so big. They've got to create this corporate structure. Guys,
00:06:02.920 if you're a mom and top mom and pop type business and you treat your employees like family, it doesn't
00:06:07.320 matter if you have a thousand fucking employees, keep that culture. Okay. Don't let that culture go to
00:06:12.280 the wayside because you think that you're too important or you've got to present a corporate
00:06:15.880 image. It's bullshit. All right. You want a great culture, be who the fuck you are and don't forget
00:06:21.600 it. All right. Point number three guys. And this is the biggest one. All right. And I think a lot of
00:06:29.680 you guys can identify this as individuals. Uh, they don't finish the job. And what I mean by that is
00:06:35.600 this. Okay. Companies will see a little bit of success. They'll get a, the, the people will get
00:06:41.700 a little bit of a paycheck. People start making some money. We'll start creating some momentum.
00:06:47.720 Things are starting to go pretty good. And what do they do? They start going on vacations. They
00:06:53.280 start kicking their feet up. They take their foot off the fucking gas. They take their eye off the
00:06:58.460 fucking ball. And guys, this is what keeps companies small. This is what keeps you where the fuck you
00:07:05.100 are. And you have to realize something that if you are staying exactly where the fuck you are,
00:07:10.900 you're getting passed by people who are working to improve. There is no maintenance in business.
00:07:15.660 There is no maintenance in success. You're either getting better or you're getting passed by people
00:07:20.760 who are getting better. That's the options. So you have to understand you cannot for one fucking
00:07:27.520 second, take your success for granted. You cannot think that just because you got to this point
00:07:33.460 that things are going to continue to go the way they've gone. And you're going to be able to put
00:07:38.160 it on autopilot and get there. We see this with small business owners all the time. How many people
00:07:42.640 in your town roll around their town? Like they're a big shot business owner, but outside of your town,
00:07:47.580 nobody knows who the fuck they are. Well, the reason nobody knows who the fuck they are and knows their
00:07:51.500 company is because likely there's, they're so busy being a local fucking celebrity and thinking they're hot
00:07:56.860 shit and your little bitty area. You know, they roll around fucking Biloxi, Mississippi,
00:08:02.420 like fucking Rick Ross. And they don't understand that, you know, they could actually be very
00:08:08.140 successful, but they've got enough coming in to look like some sort of fucking success locally,
00:08:13.060 but nobody knows, you know, what the fuck's going on in the rest of the world. And guys,
00:08:18.180 you're setting yourselves up to get blasted because all it takes is one shift in momentum,
00:08:23.040 one new competitor, one new way of doing business, one shift in technology to take you from being the
00:08:30.440 guy who's a local baller with your feet on the fucking desk to being the guy in the welfare
00:08:34.740 line because you can't pay your fucking bills. It doesn't take much. All right. You cannot take
00:08:40.760 your foot off the gas. You cannot take your eye off the ball. You can't look elsewhere. You can't
00:08:45.900 look anywhere else but ahead. And you have to work at that every single day. If you don't do that,
00:08:50.560 you will eventually lose. There is no fucking question. All right. So guys in review. All
00:08:58.200 right. Point number one, people get away from the little details. All right. Don't fucking do it.
00:09:03.420 Point number two, just because you're growing doesn't mean you need to be something that you're
00:09:08.520 not. You have to maintain your authentic self. You have to maintain your authentic culture. You have
00:09:14.080 to be who the fuck you are and be that better than anybody. And point number three, don't take your
00:09:18.860 eye off the fucking ball. Just like they told you in T-ball. All right. Every single person that
00:09:24.540 takes their eye off the ball, that takes their foot off the gas will fucking lose. Life is a long
00:09:29.360 journey. Money runs out. Success runs out. Markets change. Technology changes. Options change.
00:09:37.260 Opportunities change. And if you're not there and present to take advantage of every single one of
00:09:41.940 them, don't be surprised when you get your fucking balls kicked in by the young, hungry buck who's
00:09:47.640 trying to kick your ass and they've been paying attention. It does not take much. All right. So
00:09:54.140 guys, if you're the company who's growing right now, if you're the company who's doing well, take those
00:09:59.540 three steps to heart and be preventative about it. If you're an employee in this company, take these
00:10:05.880 three steps to heart and how you manage your day. Okay. Are you taking your eye off the tasks? Are
00:10:11.420 you taking your eye off of doing the great things? All right. Are you, uh, you know, being something
00:10:17.360 you're not? All right. Are you getting away from the things that make you great at what you do?
00:10:22.540 These are all things that are relevant to the human as well as relevant to the business. And guys,
00:10:27.660 I'm going to give you one tip. I said I was going to give you three. I'm going to give you fucking
00:10:30.220 four. Here's the other thing. All right. With the internet exploding and we see people online,
00:10:35.200 myself included driving, nice cars, traveling on private jets, wearing a nice watch and shit
00:10:41.340 realize that like what I spend is less than 10% of my fucking income. All right. It's tempting when
00:10:49.120 you first start making some money to go out and spend it on cool shit. All right. It's tempting to
00:10:55.020 go out and reward yourself. It's tempting to go out and buy shit that really doesn't fucking mean
00:10:59.540 anything. All right. Winners don't do that. Winners take the money and they reinvest it in their
00:11:05.340 company. They reinvest it in their employees. They reinvest it in their, in their systems.
00:11:09.620 They reinvest it in the product. They reinvest it in their service. Don't fall victim to the
00:11:16.420 temptation of spending the first few dollars you get. And when I mean few dollars, I mean few
00:11:22.320 fucking million dollars. All right. So many people have great businesses that could be fucking
00:11:27.360 tremendous successes. And I'm talking nine, 10 figure businesses, but they never get there
00:11:33.400 because they spend all their money trying to keep up with some fuck face from junior high who drives a
00:11:38.640 nice car and lives in a fucking mediocre house. Do you want the fucking ice cream cone today? Or do you
00:11:43.760 want the ice cream store tomorrow? That's what it comes down to. So don't get caught up in the
00:11:48.580 instant gratification of going out and buying shit. All right. Take that money, roll it back in
00:11:54.640 and become a real fucking boss. All right. So guys, that's the podcast for today. If you liked it,
00:12:01.200 share it, please leave me a review. Please hit subscribe. That's how we get ranked. We don't
00:12:06.240 ask for anything in return. I appreciate you guys. Thank you so much. And we'll see you next time.
00:12:18.580 Bye.
