In this episode of the Mf ceo Project, I talk about how to stand the ground against the goliath of your industry and why it s important to be a leader in your industry. I answer a question from a guy on insta, who asked me a question about how do you stand up against the industry leaders? Should you be flattered that industry leaders are following our steps in social media and online marketing or should you be weary that they are going to crush us?

00:00:48.420 out and that we are so organized and have these awesome plans all the time but the reality of how
00:00:54.280 this really works is we sit here tyler comes and gets me and he says hey it's time to record thursday
00:01:00.200 thunder and i say okay and we walk in the room and we look at each other and we say what are we going
00:01:04.840 to talk about and that's how it goes there's no script there's no planning it's just let's find a
00:01:09.600 topic let's let's unravel it let's try to provide some real value and some real insight on the situation
00:01:14.780 today i did something a little bit different today i thought i would go ahead and ask um
00:01:20.800 some of the followers on my instagram to go ahead and ask me some questions that they wanted answered
00:01:27.380 uh in one of the posts i made on instagram and the response was pretty good so that's what i'm
00:01:33.800 going to do today i'm actually going to pick uh i pick one person i'm going to answer their question
00:01:38.680 and dive into the topic and why it's important and and the guy that asked this question um his name
00:01:45.140 on instagram is m i uh mad madri ceo it's m-a-d-r-i-c-e-o uh he asked me three different
00:01:53.640 questions he's definitely very very uh enthusiastic about getting an answer and i'm going to read them
00:01:58.820 all to you first because they're all going to have similar answers so his first question was how do you
00:02:03.620 stand the ground against the goliath of your industry all right and then his second question um
00:02:09.780 literally one minute later was should we be flattered that industry leaders are following
00:02:15.620 our steps in social media and online marketing or should we be weary that they're going to crush us
00:02:22.500 third it says should we wait and get business open with a bang and sort of pull a trojan horse
00:02:29.160 on the industry leaders slash competitors or should we tease our clientele into what's coming
00:02:35.060 to create a buzz and risk industry leaders reacting to our coming all right i'm gonna answer 0.99
00:02:41.200 this in depth here all right fuck your competitors why are you worried so much about your competitors 1.00
00:02:48.160 my bet is the quality of your product fucking sucks because you're worried all about what the other 1.00

00:03:15.380 okay and far too many of you and this doesn't go just for the guy that asked the question 1.00
00:03:20.440 far too many of you worry way too much about other people and not enough about your fucking selves 0.98
00:03:26.320 all right if you're gonna run a business do you think i sit in the fucking back room of our business 1.00
00:03:31.980 and talk to my key guys about what everybody else is doing no i don't fucking care i don't care what 0.99
00:03:38.660 anybody else is doing i care what we're doing i care if we're making the calls i care if we're 0.77
00:03:44.180 providing value i care if we're making the best products i care if we're taking care of our customers
00:03:48.980 the best way possible i care if we're making people become loyal to our brand i care if we're making the
00:03:54.640 proper connections in our industry i don't give a fuck if anybody else is doing that i care if we're 0.86
00:04:00.320 doing that and you know what that's how you become a leader that's how you become the industry leader
00:04:06.600 because you're not following anybody else's lead you're innovating a unique path of your own
00:04:14.120 is it good to look at somebody else what they're doing and say oh you know what i acknowledge that guy
00:04:19.980 because he's doing a good job and i'm gonna do i'm gonna take what he's doing and do better
00:04:24.140 hell yeah but to sit here and and try to create your whole strategy of business around what somebody 0.66
00:04:31.200 else is doing is a way you fucking fail and so many of you guys do that you come home you gotta you 0.99
00:04:38.360 you've got a job you work with fucking bob and you come home and he bitched to your wife and you said 0.99
00:04:43.740 oh fucking bob bob fucking did this and this and this and you know do you think he's like out to get 1.00
00:04:49.080 me for you why do you think he's working so hard why do you think he's doing chances are bob 1.00
00:04:53.200 doesn't give a fuck about you the reason bob's getting paid more than you and doing a better job 0.97

00:05:10.120 on what other people are doing instead of executing on your own opportunities you are setting yourself up 0.99
00:05:17.240 to fucking fail time and time and time again and this goes against what society is right society is 0.96
00:05:24.380 all about gossip it's all about talk it's all about who's doing what and it's never about worrying about 0.99

00:05:46.620 successful people hanging out with people like that because they worry about their own shit they worry 0.99
00:05:51.580 about their own actions they worry about what they execute on and they worry about how they can get 0.98
00:05:56.540 better at it and that is how you build a company you don't strategically worry about every little chess 0.99
00:06:04.360 move you're gonna make your fucking competitors probably don't even fucking know you exist yet 0.99
00:06:09.340 if they're following you on social cool they're probably just trying to be aware of what you're 0.99

00:07:26.400 industry leader is because it ain't going to be the motherfucker that you're worried about right now 0.99
00:07:30.700 you guys you guys have got to get this through your head i cannot communicate this clear enough 0.97
00:07:38.480 i cannot i cannot explain this clear enough the people who worry about other people in business
00:07:44.000 always lose the best they can ever be is second place and in in our economy these days where there
00:07:51.380 has typically been an abc choice it's becoming more and more and more and more and more where 0.85
00:07:56.260 there's dominant players look at amazon amazon's fucking destroyed big retail taking companies from 0.88
00:08:03.580 multiple billions of dollars down to barely making a billion dollars okay let's look at some of the 0.82
00:08:09.160 numbers here 2006 sears 27.8 billion dollars 2016 1.1 billion dollars jc pennies 18.1 billion
00:08:21.360 dollars 2016 2.6 billion nordstrom 12.4 billion in 2006 8.3 billion in 2016 coles 24.2 billion 8.8 billion
00:08:36.320 in 2016 macy's 24.2 billion in 2006 11 billion in 2016 best buy 28.4 billion in 2006 13.2 billion in
00:08:50.840 2016 target 51.3 billion in 2006 40.6 billion in 2016 amazon 17.5 billion in 2006 in 2016 355.9 billion 0.66
00:09:10.100 and you know what and all those motherfuckers that same exact time if they had not worried about 0.97
00:09:17.120 everything amazon was doing and said hey let's look at what they're doing and do it fucking better 0.99
00:09:22.140 wouldn't be in that shape they're sitting there worried about their competitors oh retails dying 0.98
00:09:27.280 retails dead retails this retails that what what if they would have taken the fucking things amazon was 0.98
00:09:33.300 doing right that whole time and start doing them themselves now we're seeing it but it's too late 0.97
00:09:37.500 right we see companies who are doing grocery stores who are doing now same day delivery and companies are 0.94
00:09:43.000 trying to do same day trying to do same day delivery to combat the shit that amazon has put in place 0.96
00:09:46.400 but dude by now amazon has fucking gained so much ground that people are accustomed to going to amazon 1.00
00:09:53.300 out and just click and buy it's they've trained their customers all because these motherfuckers who were 1.00
00:10:00.560 fucking you know big players back then were so worried about what amazon was doing instead of actually 0.99
00:10:08.520 focusing on themselves and how they could get better and improving their fucking model they sat back and 0.99
00:10:13.680 watched it happen they sat back and let it happen and that's what you do when you focus somewhere else 0.99
00:10:19.820 that's what you do when you look at someone else that's what you do when you're focusing on how the
00:10:24.120 other company's doing and why they're doing so good and you do nothing about it 0.95
00:10:27.920 worry about making your own shit good worry about improving your own model worry about improving your 0.98
00:10:35.080 your own shit take a take it and you know be aware i'm not saying ignore people be aware of the good 1.00
00:10:43.680 shit other people do be aware of the good shit other companies do be aware but take that shit and do it 1.00
00:10:50.580 fucking better take that shit and add a step and then you don't have to worry about your competitors 1.00
00:10:55.780 stealing your idea because if they're stealing your idea they're stealing what you're doing now and 1.00
00:11:00.360 you're still you're evolving but see i guarantee you most of you motherfuckers don't even understand 0.99
00:11:05.000 what i'm saying because you guys are so accustomed to following somebody and and fucking ripping off 0.99
00:11:09.460 ideas and stealing ideas and that's how you survive but i'm going to tell you right now surviving and 0.95
00:11:16.000 thriving is two different things and if you want to fucking thrive you're going to have to become an 1.00
00:11:20.100 innovator by thinking on your own by focusing on your own by taking ideas that other people do well 0.93
00:11:26.220 and adding to them plus one plus one plus one till you're three fucking steps ahead and you don't do 0.97
00:11:33.160 that shit by worrying about what the competitor is doing when you haven't even launched your 1.00
00:11:37.180 motherfucking business 1.00
00:11:38.460 you 1.00
