00:00:00.000 we gonna let the band deal with this
00:00:01.960 all right hey guys what's up you're listening to the mf ceo project i'm andy i'm your host
00:00:23.400 and i am the motherfucking ceo guys today we have an awesome show for you and i'm gonna let 0.84
00:00:29.840 vaughn tell you all about it yeah guys andy gets questions all the time about andy should i go to 0.91
00:00:35.780 school should i go to college is it worth it to get an education well in many cases it's not in
00:00:41.120 some cases it is but there is one education that everybody wants and that is an education in the
00:00:46.920 school of greatness and today we have insanely successful entrepreneur podcaster and the author
00:00:54.180 of the new york times best-selling book school of greatness lewis house lewis welcome being here
00:01:01.180 thanks for having me guys this is an awesome setup yeah i i feel like you're a visiting professor
00:01:05.780 yeah right we're visiting professor i'm the dean i'm the dean of the school that's true you would
00:01:10.300 be the dean yeah or the founder of the school and i facilitate yeah the great professors who come to
00:01:14.920 me yes yeah that's great so we uh you should you should develop one of those you know trump has
00:01:19.380 trump university well that thing's bombed and it's like a scam so yeah so maybe that wasn't maybe not
00:01:24.480 that yeah yeah so but maybe something like that that's real that's legitimate so i'm excited because
00:01:30.160 of the conversation i mean just you know the conversation we've been having for the last 30
00:01:33.960 minutes has been exciting yeah i'm excited to get we should have put that up on the podcast i know man i
00:01:37.920 know well i was recording it i'm actually i'll get blamed for that yeah yeah you lost the audio for
00:01:42.480 that one too i was actually recording it on my on my iphone and i'm going to actually make it
00:01:46.360 available to everybody for $19.95 but that's too low i need to price it higher post it on some
00:01:50.760 instagram pages it's a guaranteed bestseller yeah that's true the uncensored mfceo yeah how would
00:01:58.360 that work that's such a thing yeah i don't think so but so guys today we're gonna make it all about
00:02:04.000 lewis man you just wrote this awesome book um the school of greatness number two on new york times
00:02:10.540 bestseller huge accomplishment thanks congrats man that is a big deal i mean that's something that
00:02:15.460 i aspire to and i know a lot of people listening you know it's just one of those things that you
00:02:22.380 dream about you know what i mean how's that feel it feels amazing man but again like we were talking
00:02:26.900 about before for eight years every week i would walk into the barnes and noble and i would visualize
00:02:31.480 and have the experience of seeing my book on the front shelf right there in the front of barnes
00:02:37.340 and noble and see new york times on the cover so i experienced it over and over and visualize it
00:02:43.180 you know in sports i used to watch game film all the time i don't know if you play football ever
00:02:47.600 yeah we used to watch game film especially in college football we'd watch it all the time
00:02:51.920 and i would visualize i would also watch game film of like jerry rice and the best receivers right and
00:02:57.500 experience myself as them and try to be like them when i go out to practice the next day so i just felt
00:03:03.680 like i was running game film in my you know my mind every single week when i'd go and experience this
00:03:08.780 and i said what do i need to do this week to set myself up to make this happen and then i'd go out
00:03:14.620 and execute um it's been an incredible experience i mean it feels really cool to say i'm a new york
00:03:20.240 time bestseller i would have never thought you know i almost flunked out of uh high school english
00:03:24.480 there was a time you would have never thought that there was a time i never thought that where i was
00:03:28.100 like you know i could barely read and write when i came here to st louis in eighth grade to go to
00:03:32.740 principia middle school they gave me like a standardized test to get in right and i had a second
00:03:38.640 grade reading level so i couldn't really read i was in a tutor the whole time through middle school
00:03:44.200 and high school and um you know i almost didn't graduate because senior year i was just getting
00:03:49.300 f's in english i couldn't even do the simplest things in english and um so i never had the security
00:03:57.380 or the confidence in reading and writing and didn't think i was ever going to be able to do that
00:04:02.380 then in college we just wrote a lot more five page page papers that i had to like figure out how to
00:04:07.840 knock out and i started to get pretty good at like these shorter like little blog posts type of
00:04:12.560 content right and um just trained and trained and trained and eventually you know 15 years later i
00:04:19.000 guess you can create something so so so what you're saying is a lot of hard work eventually pays off
00:04:24.840 exactly yeah yeah you do it consistently for 15 years yeah but getting serious man like the one thing
00:04:29.940 i hear when i and we talked a little bit about this off off the air and i am a huge believer in it
00:04:36.540 uh and i think most people don't understand this concept but what you said that i found really
00:04:42.640 interesting was that you experience it over and over and over again and at some point during that time
00:04:48.860 you came to expect that result yeah and so you know let's talk a little bit about like
00:04:56.000 hoping for a result versus expecting a result yeah i think hoping for a result is never going to happen
00:05:03.260 right but again for me i was uh you know it's interesting we were talking about this before
00:05:07.520 again how kind of like the world opens up to you when you're very intentional about what you want and
00:05:13.000 you you put the work in to make it happen and i again i would go to barnes and noble every week
00:05:18.460 and i would see my book on the front shelf right there and it was funny about a year before my book
00:05:23.900 came out i just signed the deal um and my brother goes oh you know by the way one of my good friends
00:05:31.900 wife is a buyer for barnes and noble i was like really can you make an intro so we ended up having
00:05:37.980 a lunch meeting and i told her my dream i was like my dream is to be in the first week my book comes out
00:05:42.640 to be on the front shelf of barnes and noble and she's like we're gonna make that dream come true
00:05:46.720 and i was just like wow just putting it out there and talking about it and talking about my vision and
00:05:51.220 how like powerful my vision is and the work i'd done to get to this place i enrolled her in my
00:05:57.720 dream and she was like i'm gonna help you make it happen right you know and the stars kind of aligned
00:06:01.980 so again i had to put in the work it had to be a great product a lot of people will look at that
00:06:06.100 from the outside and say oh that's luck or that's coincidence but but when you have it happen enough
00:06:10.600 yeah you learn to know that it's not yeah you know and we talk a lot on this show and have uh i've
00:06:16.180 talked a lot about it on periscope about the power of visualization absolutely and how important it is
00:06:21.140 you know to train because a lot of people can't visualize like when you first it's a skill you have
00:06:26.920 to develop you know a lot of people you tell them hey go visualize this or like andy i close my eyes
00:06:31.280 and i see fucking black right i don't see anything yeah yeah and and i'm like look it you're not going 0.99
00:06:36.420 to be this excellent visualizer from the first day yes it's almost like it it is a skill for me at least 0.96
00:06:44.700 maybe some people are it's definitely a skill yeah i mean look at this way you're you were telling me
00:06:48.360 when i walked in here i was like this is an amazing place your facility and you go yeah
00:06:51.880 but we're opening up a bigger place and we're consolidating we're bringing everyone together
00:06:55.820 and you were describing like in detail what the space was going to be how big it is what it's
00:07:00.860 going to have it's going to have an astroturf it's going to have this you're telling me already what
00:07:04.960 it's going to look like but it's not even created yet right but you're designing it in your mind and
00:07:09.780 then making it a reality and if you're not able to design something in your mind first then what are you
00:07:14.500 able to you're not going to create anything you're going to create like a box yeah nothing you're not
00:07:17.700 literally nothing you're going to end up being the fish that swims with the stream that's your
00:07:21.860 entire life yeah and you end up where you're going to end up when you swim swim down the river you end
00:07:25.780 up in the bear's mouth right you know what i mean it's true like what you just said reminded me of a
00:07:29.660 great story i heard about walt disney where you know he you know started construction on the first
00:07:34.680 disneyland but he died before the first day that it opened and somebody said to his brother you
00:07:39.720 know it's really a shame the first day it opened it died i'm sorry before he died before it
00:07:45.800 actually opened and somebody said to his brother you know it's just just tragic it's such a shame
00:07:50.820 that he didn't live to see this and his brother responded back walt saw it before anybody else
00:07:56.040 did right that's just a great that's a great story yeah it's a great story but it's to your two guys
00:08:01.660 that's it man i think it's you know people always ask me and i know you get asked this all the time
00:08:07.240 i mean we haven't even talked about this but i guarantee you you get the elevator talk right
00:08:11.400 dude what's the one thing what's the one thing and i really think i really honestly truly believe
00:08:17.920 that developing that power to visualize and the power to believe those visions as truth
00:08:23.460 is got to be the number one skill that someone can have this is it this is the i mean not to
00:08:27.880 talk about my book right off the bat no let's fucking talk about this is the first principle you 0.91
00:08:32.080 know there's there's eight principles of greatness from the school of greatness podcast i've interviewed 0.94
00:08:35.560 all these people from all walks of life from olympic gold medalists to you know spiritual leaders to
00:08:41.260 tony robbins to all these different people media moguls and they all have these eight things in
00:08:46.380 common that make them great this is kind of what i discovered the first chapter the first principle
00:08:51.380 is they have a such a clear powerful vision and they're able to see what they want yeah you know
00:08:57.920 uh sean johnson olympic gold medalist wasn't just didn't just become a gold medalist right for 10 years
00:09:03.520 she saw that she wanted it and saw herself on the podium and doing the performance in the olympics
00:09:09.720 and that's the same thing with you and your company you know 20 years ago when you started you saw
00:09:14.840 the vision for what you eventually wanted to create uh you know bill gates all these guys steve jobs
00:09:19.880 they have a clear powerful vision they're not just like let's go tinker around and do something
00:09:23.560 and hope something happens yeah they're like no here's what i want here's what i want it to happen
00:09:28.120 by right and here's how we're going to make it happen right and it sounds so basic right
00:09:32.040 because that's what like our teachers told us but it's the truth yes and and i know for sure
00:09:38.120 you're on a different level and i could sense it just i could feel it and there's not many people
00:09:44.940 on that level because i i meet i meet a lot of people and and i'm not trying to sound condescending
00:09:49.520 or anything but i could tell what level they're on in regards to their understanding and belief
00:09:55.160 in let's say let's call it the law of attraction or the universe or god or whatever people call it
00:10:01.160 right energy right whatever i mean there's a million names for it yeah you know i'm to the
00:10:07.280 point in my life where i'm so finely tuned at that i have to be really really conscious about what i
00:10:15.200 think about and focus on because it manifests instantly negative and positive exactly yes it's
00:10:20.200 like instant because i bet you're just like me where i can be as negative with the best of them
00:10:24.440 yeah i can go into this negative cycle and be mean and nasty and that's why i practice these positive
00:10:28.960 habits constantly and i surround myself with people who are loving and positive so i don't
00:10:32.820 get into this like i want to kill people like mentality or whatever like right get back at
00:10:37.520 people you know it's like that's why habits are so important it's staying healthy it's like we can
00:10:42.140 get off track so easily if we don't have a trainer a support group something to keep us grounded it
00:10:47.060 becomes a negative spiral we just talked about how it's gone exactly yeah yeah yeah so lewis i was
00:10:51.640 telling you a little bit about it so last night i got about an hour and a half asleep because my wife
00:10:55.420 delivered our second child but you look awfully last night for an hour thank you i appreciate it
00:11:00.460 well i'm here dude he's out here because i'm pretty excited why is your baby his wife had a
00:11:04.660 baby on monday he was here on tuesday wow he's a soldier man so it didn't happen last night the
00:11:09.600 baby wasn't born no no no i was like you should be the baby got really fussy last night but what
00:11:14.200 but as i was reading you know your book and i did the vision part just grabbed me a lot and as i
00:11:19.560 was reading it a quote that popped into my mind that i had heard elsewhere was um guy named c.s
00:11:25.500 lewis said that the mind is the organ of truth but the imagination is the organ of meaning and it and
00:11:31.180 i i just one of the things i did to pass pass the time as i was we were waiting for my wife to go
00:11:35.800 into labor was i took an iq test and i scored pretty well and i was pretty happy with myself well
00:11:40.720 then i googled it and found out that there is literally no correlation between someone's iq and
00:11:45.800 their level of success because people always think about the smarter you are the more successful
00:11:50.720 you'll be but but what i what i really resonate with was you were saying that really the people that
00:11:56.040 are successful in a way they have really amazing imaginations yes they can connect with their
00:12:00.640 meaning and their significance in life and so i i love that like that was my favorite chapter
00:12:05.060 easily thank you yeah you know it's interesting you know high school and college was a challenge
00:12:09.000 for me because i base my worth on my uh you know great gpa results what we're taught to base it on
00:12:15.720 exactly right and so like i was always in the bottom four in high school and i was like i would
00:12:20.320 just love to be like in the you know the 50 range just give me like in the middle but i was always in
00:12:25.100 the bottom four it's funny dude i struggle hard too yeah so every time i got my grade card back i was
00:12:29.680 just like i didn't want to look at it because it was just i knew it was going to be bad and that's why
00:12:34.360 i was so driven in sports because i was like here's one thing i can attach my identity to and become
00:12:38.780 great at and get some worth from you know and get some acceptance and acknowledgement from because i
00:12:43.720 wasn't getting it anywhere else in my life so i put all my focus into that but i remember hearing
00:12:48.400 the quote i think it's by uh roosevelt people don't care how much you know until they know how
00:12:53.560 much you care and i remember hearing that in high school and thinking wow i have a chance then because
00:12:58.300 i don't think i'm going to be smart book wise like you know class wise in school but i i think i can
00:13:05.480 understand people well and i can learn that skill and have emotional wisdom and people wisdom yeah
00:13:11.840 and that i think is going to make me you know much more abundant and and wealthy of a person
00:13:17.460 human being uh and successful when i'm emotionally smart yeah which by the way if you were listening
00:13:24.940 close is a skill yes it's something you develop oh man you know every they don't teach you no they
00:13:30.720 don't and some people have it naturally some people are naturally charismatic naturally loving and
00:13:36.440 caring and about anybody like my wife's like that you know what i mean she is like
00:13:40.640 so selfless so caring so over the top you know to the point where like i i feel like a piece of 0.98
00:13:47.720 shit because i'm like dude like how do you do this yeah but you know you can learn how to be more of 0.97
00:13:57.200 those things and it doesn't really take a lot man it takes like you know your ability to listen 0.98
00:14:02.900 really i think it takes ability to listen but also the awareness of like figuring out what's
00:14:07.180 important to you and most people put their importance on making money only or like their
00:14:12.140 level of success and what's in it for them as opposed to contribution and being generous
00:14:17.260 and i think you could appreciate this specifically from like your experience and your past as a pastor
00:14:22.560 is like you're all about giving and generosity and contribution that's like the come from from a lot
00:14:28.040 of pastors is like how can i serve the highest right and i know you are doing that as well in your
00:14:32.340 your business and your mission is to serve but uh i think a lot of people in their early 20s
00:14:37.400 specifically men are like driven by money and success right and fame or acknowledgement as opposed
00:14:43.480 to how can i continue to give and contribute i think when we come from that space like everything
00:14:49.100 shifts fulfillment wise internally and people notice us differently and like really want to be around
00:14:56.400 us when we come from that space like you want to be around your wife because she's giving and
00:15:00.280 everyone wants to be around her because she's so supportive and giving right now well it's a
00:15:04.060 paradox right so like we just tyler and i we just recorded our thursday thunder which airs today which
00:15:10.440 was the last thursday so this is tuesday now you guys listen thursday thunder a few days ago and we
00:15:16.420 just talked about what you just said about how mo and what we're gonna relate this to i'm gonna relate
00:15:20.920 this to business because we talk about business a lot um you know why so many people struggle in
00:15:28.220 business is because they're so focused on what's in it for them exactly and if you can understand
00:15:33.500 that business is about what you can give and what problems you can solve and who you can help
00:15:39.680 now you're talking about real business you'll make more money than anyone if you can solve the biggest
00:15:45.140 problem and they love you yeah exactly right and you feel fulfilled and you feel good about driving a
00:15:50.120 nice car or living in a nice house or whatever it is you want to do with your money because you did it
00:15:54.900 by helping people which in today's day and age of social media instant reviews craigslist angie's list
00:16:03.040 you know uh trip advisor all this shit that people can instantly feedback it's really become the only 0.82
00:16:10.540 way to become successful you know what i mean yeah because if you're going to go out there and try to 0.80
00:16:15.240 just make it about you the word's going to get out pretty quick that hey this dude's in it for himself
00:16:20.400 and i don't really want to contribute to whatever it is he's doing now more than ever there's so much
00:16:24.100 transparency in the world that you have to be a good human yeah otherwise you're going to suffer
00:16:28.040 right you can't just fake it and like no put power over people there's too many people yeah that's
00:16:32.660 right there's too many eyeballs all the time you can't and we were talking about this beforehand
00:16:36.840 we're like you know we won't say names we're like there's people in the social media world and
00:16:41.260 instagram who are doing things we're like they're going to fade out quickly right not be making a
00:16:44.800 quick buck and making some good money now but with the level of integrity that they're doing it
00:16:49.720 it's not going to pay off long term that's right what pops into my head from reading your book that
00:16:53.800 i think is really relevant to this is your statement it's not just having this personal
00:16:58.440 vision statement about what you want to do it's this personal vision statement of who you want to be
00:17:04.000 and i think that's the people that get it understand that goals flow out of character yeah it does
00:17:09.460 yeah i mean it's all about our way of being and it's something i've learned over the years as well i
00:17:14.160 didn't really know this and i wasn't really practicing this because i wanted to achieve certain things i
00:17:18.480 wanted to have certain things but really it's about being it's about be do have it's not about
00:17:23.240 once i have this then i'll be this person once i have the car or the house then i'll be happy it's
00:17:29.420 like no be happy do the things that make you even happier that serve people and you'll have everything
00:17:34.720 you want that's so true right there's so much i call it being on the other side of the mountain
00:17:39.820 yeah like when i was on the front side of the mountain and i'm looking up at the mountain of success
00:17:43.560 and not that i'm at the top by any means i got a long way to go sure but i just used the analogy
00:17:49.140 right you know when i was starting i thought differently and now that i've had a little bit
00:17:57.080 of success in my life i look back and how true that is like i struggled and struggled and struggled
00:18:02.740 and struggled until i figured out what you just said right you know what i mean and then took me years
00:18:07.440 too man it was like but then once i figured it out it like it was like instant yeah it was like
00:18:12.660 the challenge is you know i was achieving all my dreams in sports and business you know i'm i'd sold
00:18:18.060 a company for seven figures i was everything i wanted to achieve athletically i pretty much achieved 0.96
00:18:22.740 but i was always unfulfilled when i did it right 10 minutes after i was like man fuck this i was like 0.86
00:18:27.300 i was mad i was like angry that i achieved it and i was like i didn't understand why and i also 0.63
00:18:31.940 remember that i just used to be driven to prove people wrong as opposed to to inspire or serve i
00:18:38.300 still have that yeah i mean you can have it a little bit but i think you still need to be like
00:18:42.040 okay i'm i have a mission to create the best company to create the best product that's going
00:18:47.120 to make people healthier and happier you're competitive direct those emotions you can still
00:18:51.440 be competitive in ways but i think uh when you're doing it in spite of people or to make people wrong
00:18:57.680 or to prove them wrong yeah it's going to feel good for a little bit right and yeah it's going to
00:19:03.500 give you incredible energy and drive right it gave me like the most incredible drive right but then it
00:19:08.900 was like the flame burned out and i was just empty inside you know the problem with that and i know
00:19:14.920 from i mean many many times experience of i i i the problem with it is that once you accomplish that 0.74
00:19:23.460 like let's say like dude i used to make it my goal to just hammer the shit out of our 0.82
00:19:27.360 competitors and like put them out of business right and we've done that plenty of times and 0.62
00:19:32.140 and you know the minute they closed it was like my fire went away yeah so right exactly okay so and
00:19:40.980 i know like people probably i gotta go beat someone else up right people probably hear that and they're 0.68
00:19:44.360 like god that's that's we're talking about real fucking life here right yeah right like that's 0.91
00:19:48.140 business something you said before something you've said before andy too is that that whole 0.93
00:19:53.140 wanting to prove somebody wrong that works on a micro level but it doesn't work on a
00:19:57.200 macro no it's the same thing what lewis said it's temporary yeah you know let me give you a real
00:20:02.360 world example because i know people are listening here and and we're talking about concepts let me
00:20:08.040 tell you how i how this clicked for me our first eight or nine years in business we owned a we owned
00:20:15.380 retail supplements so we worked at the counter people will come in my goal was always to sell them
00:20:21.820 right during that time we always struggled we always struggled i got so i would get so angry
00:20:29.140 because we never really got any growth we never really grew business was kind of flatlined and that 0.96
00:20:36.240 was it and i got so tired of it that i just stopped caring i'm like fuck i don't care if i sell 0.96
00:20:41.440 anything and so so what happened was when i flipped that switch people will come in and i started telling 0.96
00:20:47.580 them the honest to god's truth hey you don't need this this is what you should do hey you don't need
00:20:52.740 to do that this is what you should do even if it meant me selling less product okay and what happened
00:20:58.380 people went out and they got fucking better results and guess what happened buying more from you our 0.90
00:21:03.560 business group telling people about it yeah yeah and so what and i figured it out on accident out of 0.90
00:21:08.900 frustration but but now that i've experienced it and then that you know that was 10 years ago and i've
00:21:14.860 seen the growth we've had since then i'm sold 100 you know that this dude this life is all about
00:21:21.620 caring about other people it's all about what you can give and the more you give the more you're going
00:21:26.140 to get and there's not one person on earth that could convince me otherwise that i believe that i
00:21:30.740 think it goes back to what you're saying which is most people aren't clear on who they want to be
00:21:35.460 on what they want to stand on principles and listen i'm not perfect and i have you know my vision and
00:21:41.120 my principles that i uh you know stand upon but i slip up or you know i'm out of integrity i think
00:21:46.860 as long as we're human beings we're going to be out of integrity at some point in our lives and so
00:21:50.940 we can't say to be like i'm going to be perfect every single day that's just too much pressure on
00:21:54.900 ourselves but i think it's being aware you know you had gary v in here recently and he's all about
00:21:59.540 awareness right now and talking about that but it's true it's like being aware of like you know what i'm
00:22:03.800 not being my best today so what am i grateful for today what can i work on and how can i be better
00:22:09.700 tomorrow based on the principles that i said i want to live by and so i think it's important for
00:22:14.920 us to have a vision and have principles and again these are basic things that everyone should know
00:22:20.200 and should learn but if we don't have a vision if we don't have a statement or write down of what we
00:22:25.380 want whether it be three months six months a year anything then we have no clue where we're heading
00:22:30.920 so it's really important for us to constantly evaluate what do i want to create in my life my
00:22:36.460 business my relationships my health and how am i going to get there and be very clear about it
00:22:41.460 otherwise we're just going to be a mess and unfulfilled yeah absolutely i so so for those
00:22:47.900 who haven't read the book and if you haven't you should you actually listed four or five of your of
00:22:53.600 your vision principles yes i don't even know what they are right now to be honest but uh i know they're
00:22:58.820 in the book um but for me it's it's really about coming from love i think one of them was coming
00:23:03.460 from love uh as often as i can because i can be a guy that can get quickly angry or frustrated if i
00:23:10.940 want to be my you know trigger is defensiveness because as a kid i grew up being bullied you know
00:23:17.540 i was sexually abused by a man that i didn't know i was always i was like six four when i was like 10 0.96
00:23:22.980 years old so i was just this ugly gangly goofy looking kid that just was dumb that couldn't speak 0.96
00:23:28.260 in class i couldn't read and write so i would always get defensive and try to like fight back 0.92
00:23:33.360 anytime someone tried to like give me a jab whether it be in sports or in life i had to like puff my
00:23:38.440 chest up and defend myself to be like no you're not gonna abuse me right and so for me it's always
00:23:44.200 like come from a place of love in every situation even when someone's listen if someone's trying to
00:23:50.120 kill me i'm not gonna come from a place of love i'm gonna defend myself but that's just never
00:23:54.240 gonna happen rarely right there's always situations that i feel like someone's attacking me that i can 0.94
00:23:58.560 come from a loving neutral place as opposed to getting nasty in their face and coming back to
00:24:04.400 them i never feel good when i respond the way someone acts towards me in a negative way so come
00:24:10.240 from love for me is something i'm working on again i'm never perfect um and i think uh another one for
00:24:16.880 me is like always give my best always give my best i don't want to go through life regretting
00:24:21.800 not trying something not going after something because i'm afraid of it so i'm always going to
00:24:26.900 give my best and i think at the end of the day if i give my best i know that like hey that's all i
00:24:31.680 could do is just show up and give my best so those are a couple for me yeah and and when he says give
00:24:37.220 your best we're not talking about the whiny i gave my best i tried really hard no i'm talking about
00:24:44.440 leaving it on the field that's right we're talking about really giving your best heart and soul like
00:24:48.220 there's a difference because in society there's it's become i tried i tried my hardest has become
00:24:54.400 like this whiny proclamation of like mediocrity and i know exactly what you're saying and you
00:25:02.900 guys need to understand who are listening when he says and this is a very successful man who has
00:25:07.680 accomplished a lot at a very how old are you just turned 33 33 years old okay he means leave it all
00:25:14.820 on the field when when you're your best is your best and you've got to train that voice in the
00:25:20.500 back of your head that you know it is come down i don't like to use self-awareness because i feel
00:25:26.840 like it's getting so fucking worn out you know what i mean it is so many people are using that term now
00:25:31.240 yeah because gary beats it out there yeah and i love gary yeah but it's so you know so many people
00:25:36.500 just want to like be like oh yeah self-awareness and i'm like dude explain that to me and they're like 0.88
00:25:41.840 well you know my shirt's not wrinkled i'm like no motherfucker that's not what we're talking about 0.59
00:25:47.240 you know what i mean yeah yeah of course but it is self-awareness i'll give an example and again 0.83
00:25:52.280 not to like brag or something but you know when i was 20 was like 25 i think it was 2008 the 2000 uh
00:26:02.460 2008 olympics in beijing there was a sport on i was just got on my cast off i was done playing arena
00:26:07.860 football i had to retire from an injury so i was kind of depressed i was sleeping on my sister's
00:26:11.960 couch i didn't know what i was going to do next in my life and i was trying to figure out how to
00:26:16.380 make money i had no clue what i was doing and i was watching olympics to get inspired this is in
00:26:21.280 summer of 2008 and i remember seeing this sport called team handball on late at night one time
00:26:26.820 and i was just so fascinated by this sport and my dream was always to be in the olympics as a kid
00:26:32.000 and i didn't know how i was going to make it but i saw this sport and it was like okay that's a
00:26:36.580 that's a possibility like i could potentially make the usa national team in there and then we
00:26:41.640 could potentially make the olympics so in my mind i was like this is a dream of mine i've always had
00:26:46.680 if i don't at least go for it and see what's possible i'm going to regret this for the rest
00:26:51.160 of my life and i need to make sure i live it all in the field to see what was possible so i don't
00:26:56.580 regret this right and um i didn't have any money and i moved to new york city a couple years later i was
00:27:02.480 like i'm gonna have to make money and i'm gonna move to new york city to learn the sport because that's
00:27:06.280 where the team was to practice and i moved to a new city i was the only american on the team it was
00:27:13.000 like 16 different countries representing the team was people that were professional handball players
00:27:17.460 from around the world and in nine months they like took me under their wing i trained with them every
00:27:22.460 week i made the usa national team we didn't qualify for the 2012 olympics and i continued training for the
00:27:28.660 last four years we didn't qualify for this olympics 2016 and so now i'm evaluating do i want to spend
00:27:34.580 another four years of my life training for something where the chances of us are making it are
00:27:38.940 basically none it's like maybe one percent chance if we were if the olympics were in the united states
00:27:44.980 i'd be an olympian because we'd have an automatic qualifier but they only take one country from north
00:27:49.740 and south america and just the way our federation is set up we don't have the funds or the training and
00:27:55.200 these other countries have 10 years on us of training so it's be really hard to qualify
00:28:01.120 and uh but i'm at the point where i'm like you know what i've given my best i put the last six
00:28:06.680 years of my life into like building a business and playing on a usa national team at the same time
00:28:13.220 and sacrificing having fun going to parties like being with friends months at a time to be in spain
00:28:20.060 to be in argentina to train in subpar you know training standards in dorm rooms essentially living in
00:28:28.480 the gym because that's the type of money that usa national team has but i'm at the point where i'm
00:28:33.500 like you know what i've given my best and i gave it everything because that was a dream of mine
00:28:38.280 and most people would try for like a week and be like that's too hard you're just you made the point
00:28:42.600 i was just getting ready to say like i was going to say like that's too much that is such a huge
00:28:46.540 difference between people who are very successful and people who end up just kind of going with the flow
00:28:52.000 um is how long they're willing to invest before they say yeah i gave my best six years on that
00:28:59.320 six seven years six years so it took me 10 years to make over 40 grand our business right you know
00:29:04.880 i'm saying and people are always like i and i get these emails a lot man andy i've been doing this 0.95
00:29:10.760 for a year and i just don't i'm like dude yeah you're in shit bro yeah stick it out yeah that's right 0.92
00:29:16.600 and i think that's such a defining characteristic amongst people who are successful is how long 0.94
00:29:21.640 they're willing to uh endure uh till they say dude i gave it my best it's interesting you know um
00:29:27.400 do you watch uh the new girl it's a tv show called the new girl i don't think i've seen it it's my
00:29:31.460 wife and i watched the first is it's a really popular it's a hilarious popper the show on tv i don't
00:29:36.220 really watch tv but i'll watch it every now and then because the guy schmidt who's one of the main
00:29:40.540 it's like the funniest guy on tv he works he works out the crossfit gym that i used to work out at
00:29:45.580 and um so i would train with him every now and then and because i'm in the hollywood so all the
00:29:52.060 actors are there whatever and i remember having you look hollywood right that's what i'm saying
00:29:56.480 lewis has got that hollywood look i'll take it i guess yeah um and i would uh i would train with
00:30:03.380 him and then one day we were like having a smoothie i'm still trying to get him on the podcast but he's
00:30:07.220 been pretty busy um his name is max and one day we were having a smoothie afterwards together and i just
00:30:12.980 like he came and sat next to me for like 30 minutes and we're chatting and i go dude how long
00:30:16.380 you've been in this game in hollywood like trying to make it because i never heard about you before
00:30:20.600 the new girl the show right he goes i've been out here busting my butt for 10 years before i got this 0.74
00:30:27.920 gig and he's like i was i was like did you ever think you wanted to quit he goes every freaking year
00:30:33.140 because but then i would get like a little gig that would pay me just enough to get by the next couple
00:30:38.540 months and like i'd get a little win and a little win and it just kept me in the game for 10 years
00:30:43.460 and now he's like the biggest you know star on tv one of the biggest guys on tv right now making bank
00:30:51.040 definitely one of the most unique characters one of the most unique characters and he's like everything
00:30:54.940 prepared me for this moment it was all uh i call it like you know reps you're just getting like
00:31:01.500 practice reps for the real thing and that's what i look at my life right now everything is a practice
00:31:06.480 rep for like when oprah calls when whatever the president calls when whatever it's like a
00:31:11.420 practice rep for all the news all the interviews for when like the big dogs show up or whatever
00:31:17.640 it's like well you're doing a big now bro well yeah but i mean it's like you know it's a whole
00:31:21.320 nother level when you're on tv all the time all these other things it's like this is practice reps
00:31:25.720 the way i look at it i see you hustle man yeah i appreciate it this man's got this man's got grade a
00:31:30.060 plus hustle i appreciate it yeah for real lewis let me take you back just for a second because i know you
00:31:34.360 talked about you're struggling school early on you talked about the the the abuse and different
00:31:41.080 things and this is a this is a a topic that's not only addressed in your book it's something that
00:31:45.100 andy hits a lot and this is the whole issue of adversity uh-huh and uh i'm actually not exactly
00:31:50.940 sure how i'm going to phrase my question but basically it's it's you look at this connection
00:31:55.120 between adversity and success and like adversity is absolutely 100 necessary i heard a great quote the
00:32:03.180 other day that said that the the the world war ii was actually won during the great depression
00:32:07.840 because it forged all of the character that would end up leading those men and women to basically fight
00:32:13.480 off hitler yeah but so any and i talked about this the other day is that whether it's entrepreneurs or
00:32:21.160 everyday joes or even like christians in america we we don't know what adversity really is i mean the
00:32:27.100 average person um i guess my question to you is what talk a little bit about what why you think
00:32:33.940 that's so necessary for the forging of greatness which it appears that that that's what you think
00:32:38.580 yeah and then the second thing is like because we do have a lot of prosperity in america i mean
00:32:42.740 there are obviously a lot of people who are struggling but because we do have a prosperity are we almost
00:32:47.900 at a disadvantage from people in third world countries who who are just forced to forge that character
00:32:53.840 it's a great question i'll try to answer in many different ways but the first way is like a lot
00:32:59.360 of entrepreneurs um i feel like the reason they don't have what it takes is because they haven't
00:33:04.000 been through adversity in their early childhood or they haven't been through it like as an athlete
00:33:07.920 that's why i feel like athletics and sports gave me the best advantage to be an entrepreneur
00:33:11.880 because every day in football you're wearing pads especially in st louis man it was miserable
00:33:16.940 like in the summers here people surprise how hot again oh my gosh man the three days in the summer
00:33:21.540 just that alone it's like the closest thing to boot camp you can think of for a civilian probably
00:33:25.820 um and just every day the the mental challenges you have to come overcome from the coaches your
00:33:31.360 teammates the game time situations the pressures you know i was facing that every day every week
00:33:37.000 for my whole life so for me i felt like i had the advantage because i've already trained my mind to
00:33:42.900 overcome adversity and all the people that i interview the people that make it to the top and sports and
00:33:48.860 business they all have to overcome adversity i think when you have a big dream if if you're just
00:33:55.080 living like an average life and you're just walking through doing the average you're not going to face
00:33:59.240 much adversity but if you have a big dream the challenges are going to come your way you don't
00:34:03.600 you don't have to look for challenges you don't have to say i need to find adversity so i can overcome
00:34:08.500 it or something it's going to happen when you went from a superstore you know nutrition tour to saying
00:34:13.660 i'm going to open a warehouse and then become like one of the biggest supplement companies in the
00:34:17.460 world it's going to happen because you don't know the things you need to know yet to get that big
00:34:21.840 yeah i never really thought about it that way it's the bigger the way to think the bigger the dream the
00:34:27.060 bigger the adversity is coming your way that's why there's always going to be new adversity the more
00:34:31.800 we grow right um and so when the the great leaders embrace it you know steve jobs when he decided
00:34:38.500 to take back apple and and create the iphone it was like a new product that he had never done there
00:34:44.300 was adversity and it's just constantly evolving um every athlete once you reach the top it's like
00:34:49.940 i gotta stay at the top there's new adversity coming your way constantly new pressures so the
00:34:55.600 greatest individuals know that adversity is coming and they know how to embrace it as opposed to shy
00:35:00.460 away from it i think i think too they i think they look at it as just like you know you you and i both
00:35:08.100 come from an athlete background and i think you know because of that i personally and you could
00:35:15.920 tell me if you agree or disagree but i personally look at that as i welcome it you know i look at it
00:35:21.420 like hey no different than hey i'm in the weight room and i gotta train exactly you know what i mean
00:35:25.880 yeah and and i know that the more adversity that i deal with and overcome that makes me better than the
00:35:31.900 next guy you know yeah and and i so the only way you're gonna get better is through pain right the
00:35:38.960 only way arnold got bigger was through tearing the muscle and dealing with adversity and life is the
00:35:44.020 same way it's the same way but so many people will take that adversity and go cry and pout and they think 0.98
00:35:49.540 it's only them or the like i said on on a thursday thunder the world hates me the world doesn't fucking 0.99
00:35:55.320 hate you it doesn't love you either the world just is yeah you know what i mean and it's you 0.90
00:36:00.460 and uh i mean dude well here's the thing you can i think you can choose for the world to hate you
00:36:06.520 if that's your belief and the world does hate you exactly or you can say you know what the world loves
00:36:10.500 me and every day come from the world loves me the world loves me and the world will show up with love
00:36:14.880 right so it's neutral and you choose what it is what to see right yeah exactly yeah yeah man i i dig that
00:36:22.900 i think that the the the whole the whole adversity concept is uh we i think we skip it yeah i think
00:36:32.780 we need to start welcoming it more and more and say listen like i'm going through challenges right
00:36:36.900 now in my business i'm growing i've never i've got 10 people on my team right now i've always been
00:36:42.080 like a guy with one or two assistants or people on my team kind of like a smaller solo entrepreneur
00:36:47.140 but now i'm like wow things are building and i want to grow and i have a bigger vision
00:36:50.600 and i've never handled that many people so for me it's like i've got to learn a whole new skill about
00:36:57.000 how to handle 10 people and logistics and with me traveling four days a week it doesn't sound hard
00:37:02.080 but it's hard it's challenging people it's very and when you're paying money every you know premium
00:37:06.500 price for employees every single day what how do you know what they're doing if they're producing
00:37:11.380 and you're like oh the money's coming out but where's it going it's like you've got to learn a whole
00:37:14.720 new skill of adversity that comes your way and still be on top of your game when you do interviews
00:37:19.260 or when you're creating the product or whatever you're doing i still got to be on my game and ready
00:37:23.480 for what i'm doing in life so it's just a you know you got to welcome the challenge and for me i'm like
00:37:28.840 more reinvesting in so many things and i'm like i've never done this huge conference that i'm going to
00:37:33.680 put on at the end of the year but i have a vision to make an annual event to bring the podcast to life
00:37:38.520 and it's like okay i got to learn new things and there's going to be adversity and challenges but
00:37:42.280 it's going to make me a better human in the process hell yeah man so would you guys go so
00:37:46.440 far as to say i mean like if i literally said it like this it's it's not just that pain and struggle
00:37:53.320 are a normal part of the pursuit of greatness it's that pain and struggle actually produce
00:37:59.920 the greatness i think so i think pain you don't have to suffer but i think you need to experience
00:38:04.980 pain and that's why in my book i talk about the power of experiencing pain every day to build the
00:38:10.300 threshold and what i mean by that is like you can simply just do a workout every day and you'll
00:38:15.380 experience pain if you push yourself hard enough i think the more you train your body and your mind
00:38:21.960 to experience that amount of pain it's not going to be painful when you face the adversity but i think
00:38:26.720 that's something that's a necessary thing you need to produce great results i mean think about it
00:38:32.900 any great athlete do you think they all just walked on and had athleticism and they were there's 22 year
00:38:38.720 old phenoms or they trained for years and years of pain to get there well that's the problem with
00:38:45.020 with society in general is what we get presented to us the glorified story is the story of oh
00:38:52.920 kobe bryan signs right out of high school because he's a freak but what they don't tell you is that
00:38:57.420 kobe bryan's been hustling since he's five years old yeah and you know he's the hardest worker on earth
00:39:01.360 hardest worker you know i mean i was at the gym today with sean stevenson your mutual friend yeah
00:39:04.940 and we got there i don't know what uh eight o'clock and right when we get in there there's
00:39:09.280 a basketball court so me and him decided to like warm up and play basketball there was a guy there
00:39:13.040 the tank top and just his headphones literally shooting like a five foot shot set shot just
00:39:18.540 practicing over and over and going around the rim shooting the shot like five feet away he looked
00:39:23.060 like a jacked like stud like some st louis like slew college player that was like that guy is like a 0.55
00:39:29.660 stud looking but he was just doing the most boring shot over and over right when we were there just
00:39:34.780 playing basketball then we went up to the gym and he was still doing the shot the same shot over and
00:39:39.840 over then i went to the shower he's still doing it then i left i'm dressed and showered and we're
00:39:44.400 coming here he's still doing the same shot for an hour and a half and i'm like this guy is dedicated
00:39:49.640 he's doing stuff that maybe it's not painful but it's like it's not fun it's you know what's you know
00:39:55.400 here's the the greatest parallel to that though is that and this is i use this all the time and my guys 0.97
00:40:04.360 are gonna be listening to this podcast because i know they do but that's what wins fucking games 0.96
00:40:07.880 that's it man you know i was like at the end of the game the championship he's gonna score life 0.96
00:40:11.780 yes it's doing the fundamentals perfectly over and over consistently ever like dude and i teach my 0.69
00:40:18.440 guys that all the time i'm like look this is not about fucking three throws it's not about 0.99
00:40:22.960 360 reverse dunks three pointers yeah fucking layups yeah yeah you know over and over that's right 0.98
00:40:28.920 if you never miss a layup in life you'll win you'll win big and that's dude you don't need 0.98
00:40:33.780 grand slams no and that's that's right you know that's the thing and and you know it just doesn't
00:40:40.600 get any simpler than that and you know getting the fundamentals down and getting them and what it
00:40:46.800 doesn't matter whatever you're doing whether it be uh working at a fortune 500 company a ceo of that
00:40:52.880 company or you're making french fries at mcdonald's it doesn't matter you could practice this habit
00:40:58.020 that we're talking about and whatever you're at it's a habit of perfection of the little things
00:41:02.700 and if you're at mcdonald's and you're cooking french fries right now you know it's not the 0.97
00:41:06.780 glorious the most glorious thing in the world but dude everybody in this room has done shit jobs that 0.86
00:41:11.580 they didn't want to do and developing a habit of making those french fries perfect every single time 0.60
00:41:18.060 is going to be carried with you to the next thing and then the next thing and then the next thing
00:41:23.680 and eventually you'll be teaching that habit you know what i mean and that's it's that simple
00:41:28.760 yeah you started off these 20 years you've been doing this right andy and you started off just
00:41:33.160 with a store for 10 years making 40 grand a year or whatever right doing the same things over and
00:41:37.560 over you didn't start off with the warehouse and however much money you're making now and just like
00:41:41.820 oh let's start a warehouse and do this thing it's like you built the foundation and the habits over
00:41:46.480 and really the truth of it is a lot of people here you know we've been doing it for 17 years 0.96
00:41:50.440 like fuck that's a long time but remember the first 10 i totally fucked off right so until i got my 0.99
00:41:56.800 head out of my ass that was really in the last seven years yeah you know what i mean it's pretty 1.00
00:42:00.760 fast in seven years exactly so like let's take the first 10 years where all i cared about was making 0.99
00:42:05.680 enough money to get drunk and go out and chase chicks exactly you know what i'm saying and then
00:42:09.620 let's say when i got serious and when i got serious shit happened you know what i mean but i got 0.70
00:42:15.100 serious about making sure that every single person i interacted with 0.97
00:42:20.440 not in my store everywhere walked away saying damn dude i like that guy i want to be friends 0.94
00:42:27.780 with that guy i want to shop with that guy i want to do business with that guy yeah i've got a 0.97
00:42:31.240 it's a 24-7 thing i did a speech uh a while ago and i have the the whole thing on my uh my screen
00:42:37.720 server right now because i haven't taken it off it's called the seven daily lessons for having it
00:42:41.620 all and i did it i'd give it for a bunch of entrepreneurs who are making eight you know seven
00:42:46.560 eight figures a year in their business and they're having it all in their business but they don't have
00:42:50.620 it all in the rest of their life right and i took the lessons from the school of greatness book and i
00:42:55.480 put it into kind of these these other lessons and one of the things that all these great people do is
00:43:00.200 they make sure to make someone else's day every single day and that's just what you talked about
00:43:05.340 it's like don't just make your customers days but make everyone's day right every single day right
00:43:10.940 and that can that's free it doesn't cost you money you can smile you can hug someone you can say hi
00:43:16.060 you can give them a high five you know be kind yeah and exactly and i would tell people this okay
00:43:20.480 because people here's here's the rebuttal of that people will say because people have rebuttal to
00:43:25.060 everything we're all on the internet we know this of course right right especially online they'll say
00:43:29.640 andy but aren't you you're telling you're telling me to manipulate people for your own good no i'm not
00:43:34.740 because when you first start doing this it'll feel that way because it's not natural for you to do
00:43:39.240 and what'll happen is you'll get so much pleasure out of doing it yes that it becomes a habit of who
00:43:44.640 you are i get so much stuff for free so many upgrades just for walking up and smiling dude and
00:43:50.700 be like how was your day right and like just being joyful saying thank you yes you know it's courteous
00:43:56.720 dude how simple yeah i you you guys would not believe and i i've experienced the same thing
00:44:02.300 especially at hotels oh my gosh saying thank you to people get you yeah you know what i mean
00:44:07.100 louis i have to tell you that one of the things i noticed about your book was it's funny how some
00:44:13.240 people when they write a book they'll name drop you know oh i happen to know this famous person
00:44:18.800 your your book was exactly the opposite the way that i felt like you talked about other people
00:44:23.660 you were like look how awesome this person is not that i know them that but that look at the lesson
00:44:29.500 of their life and what they what they have to share and i was really impacted by not just what you
00:44:35.460 said but how you said it and the way that you illustrated it in other people's lives but i
00:44:39.580 want to put because i know we're you know this isn't just a motivation podcast is a this is a
00:44:44.660 entrepreneur podcast and i i'm curious andy this this i want to say something about what you just said
00:44:49.600 oh sure go ahead so and keep what you're thinking about yeah yeah because i'll answer that but that's
00:44:54.680 where you really tell the cream of the crop from the fakers to me right because so many people out
00:45:01.400 there right now value their social quote-unquote social leverage so much that they want to take
00:45:06.820 other people's information and not steal it but they want to like use it to leverage themselves to
00:45:12.260 prop themselves up as opposed to saying wow look at this person and look what they've done and this
00:45:18.440 is a great story and a great example because they don't want to like lend that credibility a hundred
00:45:22.840 percent because they're afraid if they do then their people are going to go follow that person or
00:45:27.260 you know what i mean right and doing it the way that he's that he's done it is the selfless real
00:45:34.380 way of doing it so i hope when you guys read the book you pick up on that yeah you know what i mean
00:45:38.840 because a lot of people won't fucking do that yeah they won't put their name behind somebody in that 0.87
00:45:44.380 sort of way that you're describing because they're like living in a scarcity mindset like they want all 0.98
00:45:48.600 the attention here's the thing that i've learned over the years you know i wasn't always this way but i
00:45:53.220 started to learn that there's so much abundance for all of us like i can have someone on my podcast
00:45:58.020 and promote who does the exact same business same course it's only going to help you it's not going
00:46:03.120 to take away from like me and there's other people i see in the space that are like they're scared
00:46:08.220 they're scared to like how promote people or whatever it may be or talk about them because they
00:46:12.240 don't want their audience to leave them or something right i'm like i've done over 300 yeah i've done
00:46:16.840 over 300 something episodes with people and my audience grows right it's not like and yeah people tell me
00:46:22.520 thank you for introducing me to this person i bought their book and i love their stuff now
00:46:26.080 awesome you should like i want you to find the right information because i don't know it all right
00:46:31.260 these are experts that's why i'm bringing them on right um but hopefully you'll keep trusting me to
00:46:35.780 come back for more right you know what i mean so tremendous value in that yeah and it's genuine value
00:46:41.200 yeah and you're the same thing do you know you don't sell just your product yeah right you sell other
00:46:45.700 people's products you have other stores right i don't know if you talk about yeah no we sell we a lot of
00:46:50.020 people don't realize that but we actually distribute third-party products all over the country
00:46:53.360 all the place all your stores we're vertically integrated so anything that we do and i asked
00:46:57.380 you i was like oh that's great you own the retail store so you just put all your products in the front
00:47:01.380 of the store and you're like no actually we do the opposite yeah we want people to choose the best
00:47:05.060 product and i was like wow that's amazing yeah you have that as opposed to let's just make this all
00:47:09.840 about our product and sell sell sell who can make more um you know off the top from our product
00:47:15.200 than other products right obviously you're going to make more of a cut right but you're like no that's
00:47:18.700 like the opposite we want to make people choose well we'll play a long game we want people to come
00:47:22.480 yeah and you're like we want to create we want to make sure that our product continues to get better
00:47:26.280 so people just have to buy it right we don't need a front store placement it that's right and like
00:47:31.320 trick people or just shove it down their throats and again you're living in a world only product out
00:47:35.620 there i mean there were the only there were the only supplement product out there that fully
00:47:41.900 guarantees everything that we sell 110 so you if you were like a scammer you could actually like make
00:47:46.700 money buying our products you know what i mean we have less than one percent return that's great
00:47:51.220 you do a lot of sales which is less which is less than national average of four percent on retail
00:47:56.240 so well while we're on the subject of promoting things that we believe in uh we do want to tell
00:48:00.920 people uh talk about me again i guess i know i was actually no uh we're going to talk uh guys if
00:48:06.360 you haven't checked out lewis's website it's lewishow.com l-e-w-i-s-h-o-w-e.com and the the book is
00:48:14.640 school of greatness and then of course you've got a couple other ones uh linkedin networking
00:48:18.840 yeah i've got a linkedin book and a webinar book those are more smaller books yeah yeah yeah but
00:48:23.240 definitely check them out check out the podcast which is also called the school of greatness right
00:48:27.100 yeah so here's here's what i was gonna the question i was gonna direct to andy
00:48:30.820 a lot of times because i handle this aspect of the mfco we'll get emails and we'll get somebody
00:48:36.660 trying to be on the podcast and they'll say something like they almost invariably lead with
00:48:40.660 um we have this huge social media following or whatever and what they i don't think what people
00:48:45.440 have kind of learned about andy yet is that you really when it when all said and done you really
00:48:52.720 don't care about someone's social media following you have them oh you have you have people on the
00:48:57.700 show because they have a good story i don't give a fuck yes exactly that's true does vaughn ever 0.96
00:49:03.860 swear or no i try to get him to that's the whole joke you do he has i mean when i met i let's put it 0.96
00:49:09.160 he has before but he gets god be okay with that uh well there is a cuss word in the bible oh really
00:49:14.600 what is that it's in philippians chapter four it's what verse uh 4 12 i believe where philippians
00:49:20.620 says or saint paul says i consider everything scubala compared to the surpassing value of knowing
00:49:26.500 christ jesus my lord for whose sake i've counted everything a loss and what does scubala means it's
00:49:32.080 basically the slang term for uh bull caca he won't even say it he will stay in integrity dude i got
00:49:39.000 him on snapchat one day rapping easy e and and i caught him saying a cuss word and he's like get
00:49:43.860 post that you can't post that yeah it's all good but no it's a good he's setting the example for his
00:49:48.900 kids it's great exactly you know i try to swear less to be honest like i find myself doing it too
00:49:53.220 much and i'm just like yeah i could say a word without i'll be honest with you man like
00:49:56.620 this is gonna sound this is almost gonna sound egotistical but i don't it is what it is like
00:50:03.500 since we started the podcast i see people overusing the f word now yeah it's starting to get on my
00:50:07.840 nerves yeah like now i'm like yeah is it really necessary like i mean your ratio in one and four 0.96
00:50:13.820 is very reasonable well here's the thing all of your 15 second videos at instagram have fucking you 0.97
00:50:19.400 better step up i know that's like the two times in the whole hour here's the difference but see it's 0.92
00:50:24.780 an art form though but like it's like that and it's who you are look look look cursing the proper
00:50:30.660 way is an art form it really is using it in a sentence that's right use it people that put it
00:50:35.480 in the wrong place or say it the wrong way or use use it in the wrong order it annoys me right so like
00:50:42.340 if you're gonna curse at least do it right right perfect your art but here's gotta perfect it here's
00:50:47.700 something else all right this is totally off on a tangent of curse words but i i was told the other
00:50:51.640 one of the guys that like dude here's one thing that i really can't stand yeah i'm sorry dude if 0.98
00:50:56.680 you put it if you like p like i would never wear a shirt that said the word fuck on it right you 0.93
00:51:01.680 know what i'm saying right well right and so here's my point so i i i was working with another client and 0.98
00:51:06.160 they were telling me about this person that i mentioned she's fairly well known in st louis
00:51:11.540 and uh he went out with her and a couple of other people who are who are like really upstanding
00:51:17.440 members of society and they were at the restaurant and this woman was just like dropping f-bombs left 1.00
00:51:22.340 and right and so this guy said to me and this is in front of a guy and his kids and so this guy said
00:51:29.200 to me uh so is andy like that i said not even remotely he has social acuity what do you call
00:51:36.000 social acuity like you know awareness right social awareness you know when you're supposed to do
00:51:40.900 i give clean speeches right like i don't go to high school but but that kind of thing that that's
00:51:47.020 what annoys me is when people don't understand their environment etiquette and they don't understand
00:51:51.480 etiquette yes um so but anyway what i saw being me on the show and and that's that is how i speak
00:51:58.000 right it is it's your house you can do what you want and well the thing is is like that's how we
00:52:01.960 are around here so that's just how i am but but when you when you're overdoing it like or you don't
00:52:07.680 know how to do it just don't do it right right you know what i'm saying or if you're doing it
00:52:11.220 to try to prove something yeah or you know like yeah we're just changing name to like
00:52:15.820 the mother fudging ceo i think that'd be great so anyway here here was the point you would think
00:52:20.900 that's great what was the question we were asking so here's the point that i was your favorite curse
00:52:24.680 word yeah so i um i have like i said i've always told people andy does not pick our guests based on
00:52:33.260 their social media he picks them based on the value that they provide in fact we've got
00:52:37.300 a couple people on who literally have no social media following in the past so what i wanted to
00:52:42.380 ask you andy is obviously this is this is also for entrepreneurs what do you think if you had to
00:52:47.660 isolate it down to one thing what do you think is lewis's greatest value what does he provide for
00:52:52.740 our entrepreneurial audience let me let me videotape this to see let me get this on my blog now
00:52:58.060 well i mean let's be real lewis is a pretty handsome guy he is so he is i gotta be honest with you i
00:53:05.200 don't know if anybody has ever told you this i don't know why but when i first saw you i was
00:53:08.460 like that dude kind of looks like tim tebow really yeah interesting did you think i've never gone i
00:53:13.420 mean tim's a lot bigger you know he's jacked i get i get uh michael phelps a lot oh yeah i see that
00:53:18.680 i get eli manning every now and then but i'm like those guys are both kind of like i'd have to see you
00:53:23.820 in a speedo for you're better looking than both those guys thank you i always like i feel like it's
00:53:27.800 kind of uh i don't know it's just because you're tall dude yeah yeah yeah yeah but you know first
00:53:33.140 of all i what i like about lewis is that he brings a balance to an even keel and this is what we talked
00:53:43.740 about before we got on the air even keel presentation of the message you know what i mean and normally i
00:53:48.000 would normally i would argue and you guys have heard me say this that you need to be on an edge or
00:53:52.600 you need to be um there needs to be something about you that makes that's different you know
00:53:59.640 what i mean and and at first glance when you look at lewis you know you're clean cut dude you're all
00:54:05.240 american looking dude and you're like man what's this dude about when you hear him start talking
00:54:09.340 the the principles that he talks about and and especially on the mentality aspect of it
00:54:14.980 i think that's where you could teach and bring and touch people on the on on the biggest aspect you
00:54:22.220 know what i mean you don't see lewis posted pictures of his lambo or this or that um in fact
00:54:28.060 what is that thing you drive man 91 cadillac that's pimp yeah yeah yeah so i got it for four grand dude
00:54:34.760 it's awesome but but the mentality that he believes in that he talks about that he's written about and
00:54:40.300 that he talks about consistently in his speeches i believe is utmost crucial to being successful
00:54:48.620 you know i think success starts in your brain a hundred percent with your ability to visualize
00:54:54.320 and it's it's ironic that you started your book that way because i haven't actually got to read
00:54:57.860 your whole book yet right so it was that was people probably think that was planned but it wasn't
00:55:02.180 right right you know and uh i i just think the way that he helps people see the process of becoming
00:55:10.520 successful without just like i mean dude i i get carried away sometimes i just pick on myself 0.97
00:55:16.140 you know i get carried away with assuming that people know shit and so i'm like oh just fucking 0.96
00:55:21.500 get to work and they're like what does that mean i'm willing to work but how do i start you know and 0.98
00:55:25.860 i get angry and i yell and this and that i just like the the even keel simplicity simplistic way that
00:55:33.400 he brings his message to people and i think that if you're looking for something that you know you don't
00:55:40.320 know where to go or you don't know how to think or you don't know where to start if you want to learn
00:55:44.020 how the process works you need to buy the book yeah you know what i mean it's a you need to
00:55:48.780 follow them on all on all platforms yeah i appreciate it yeah i mean i love following you
00:55:52.540 man it's one of my favorite follows yeah so the two the two adjectives i would i i would say the book
00:55:58.160 so far strikes me as it's thought-provoking but accessible and that's a that's a difficult thing
00:56:03.180 to to achieve but so we have gotten a lot of uh requests for this it's not just that i want to like
00:56:09.340 pimp our social media but lewis what is your what instagram account is it just lewis house on
00:56:14.480 instagram twitter facebook uh only thing on snapchat it's lewis underscore house okay because i
00:56:20.540 opened up an account like three years ago and then deleted it and i couldn't figure out my password
00:56:24.220 so okay and it's at andy for seller for did you ever get your snapchat changed no it's still mfceo
00:56:30.260 dash one okay and i'm gary i'm i'm not i'm not that uh egotistical that i really want everybody
00:56:37.200 to know mine but i've had requests for me to spell my name so at vaughn kohler v-a-u-g-h-n-k-o-h-l-e-r
00:56:44.920 there's nothing egotistical people want to know who you are man i know if you don't promote you
00:56:49.240 nobody else gonna promote you that's true i need to start you gotta be your biggest fan you know what
00:56:53.260 i need to start doing i need to start like i don't know pimping up my my my my public persona
00:56:59.340 so i need to start with you like a look like yeah i need to i need to some some gold or bling or
00:57:04.020 i actually want to i don't know if you're segwaying for us to wrap up right now if that's what you were
00:57:07.740 doing with the whole social media but uh i wanted to say something before we we do wrap up if that's
00:57:12.740 what we're doing but i'm happy to talk longer i don't know what what are we at tyler we got like
00:57:17.040 an hour hour yeah uh one thing i was gonna say is that uh you know you have this persona online for
00:57:23.680 people that maybe follow you or that are listening and that think one way but like you really do care
00:57:30.060 deeply about people i mean you didn't even know me but you reached out to me we were like
00:57:33.740 texting and you're like hey how can i help with your book and this is the first time we're meeting
00:57:37.800 in person right i tell people that all the time and you were just like i want to help however i can
00:57:42.760 i'm going to buy you know 500 copies whatever it was yeah it's 500 yeah and i was like holy cap you
00:57:48.060 know crap there's friends of mine that i've had for years who wouldn't even like get me on their 0.68
00:57:53.020 podcast and when they were just like they were too busy or they want to promote me or whatever
00:57:57.580 and here's a guy that's just like cares deeply he sees what people are doing good work he wants to
00:58:02.940 support people and you showed up in a huge way and you did that for gary you did it for me
00:58:07.500 i do have people i believe in exactly what i mean like it's but it speaks volumes you know it's like
00:58:13.100 says a lot about who you are and like your your level of caring where some people may just be like
00:58:18.200 oh he's just uh you know swearing you know loud mouth ceo like just aggressive bearded tattooed dude
00:58:25.080 who doesn't give a shit about anyone but you really care and i can like feel that when i look in your 0.72
00:58:29.720 eyes you know i really know you you care a lot i appreciate that so i just want people to know 0.67
00:58:34.440 that are listening i'm sure everyone already does know that but if you don't he's a guy that cares
00:58:38.760 about his team you know the energy around here the level of care is really powerful and i think
00:58:43.760 people wouldn't want to stay around in a company if you're a ceo or building anything you got to make
00:58:49.020 sure you care about the people around you and lift them up otherwise they're going to leave you or
00:58:53.420 it's going to be a negative environment so i really put that i think a lot of people that follow me
00:58:57.760 to get get the impression like they imagine what i like like that run around screaming my employees
00:59:04.120 and sometimes i fucking do but let me tell you something there isn't a person that works in this 0.94
00:59:08.500 organization that i don't care deeply about and if they are getting yelled at it's because i want them 0.95
00:59:13.660 to be better right and they know that you know what i mean and it's not just yelling because i'm mad
00:59:19.240 or yelling it's most of my like let's let's just be real i don't have to work another day in my life
00:59:24.220 right now i could close these doors and never ever work again and not have not even have to sell
00:59:29.720 the company just close the company now okay i'm fortunate enough to be in that position my motivation
00:59:35.440 in my company now is to get our company to a point where those guys who have bled and sacrificed and
00:59:42.360 helped me get to my position can also get to a similar position and so when i yell at them and i say 0.91
00:59:48.520 hey you're not you're not making the fucking layups you're you're taking plays off you're doing this 0.99
00:59:54.260 you're doing that it's not out of a place of anger it's out of love like what you said yeah right you 0.99
00:59:58.840 know what i mean and that's just how i express it and you know what i'm a big believer in and you know 0.97
01:00:02.560 this vaughn and and lewis i'm sure you know this too but i'm a big believer in fucking winning okay 0.76
01:00:07.960 and when you lose and you're losing i'm not going to congratulate you for losing and i'm not going to 0.93
01:00:12.800 put my arm around you and say when i know you can do better right now if you don't know
01:00:17.180 that's different somebody doesn't know i'll put my arm around you say all right look
01:00:20.740 things aren't going your way here's what we're going to do to fix it yeah and i think that's
01:00:24.600 good that you can shift because some people you know when coaches would scream at me in this
01:00:29.340 aggressive nature i would just like shut down shut down and they would keep doing it and they
01:00:33.180 weren't able to shift right it's like i needed them to be like take me to the side and just be
01:00:36.620 like hey listen we need you to step up like right we'll do whatever it takes right i'm here for you
01:00:41.260 right you know and that's that's a management like you're getting into management now you gotta
01:00:45.660 understand people right and what works you can't just have them understand only you and the way
01:00:50.620 you act you've got to be able to understand all types of personalities 100 and that's like that's
01:00:55.240 a skill you've got to learn it's a skill and it takes consistent oh man it's tough upkeep it's like a
01:01:00.000 garden and i you know you have all 90 men working for you it looks like a couple a couple female
01:01:05.960 people employees in here i've got 90 women working on my team yeah and i'll just let you know it's a 1.00
01:01:11.640 whole different like level of understanding and patience and like love i can't like yell or be 0.99
01:01:17.480 like step your shit up bitch you know i can't say that yeah it's like the funny thing is the girls 1.00
01:01:22.340 that work here are the hardest core ones oh yeah they walk around talking shit to all the guys that's 1.00
01:01:27.100 awesome that's good yeah but yeah man you know uh you know i liked what you said about coming from a 0.91
01:01:34.480 place of love i think that's reality and even though i even though you know my message might
01:01:40.520 come across edgy or harsh to some people it's always coming from that place i think that's
01:01:45.460 i think if people don't understand i mean my my guys listen you guys listen right now understand me 0.99
01:01:50.120 and you know that uh and i appreciate you guys so much for for understanding a crazy fucking dude like 0.93
01:01:55.720 me but right you know some people they'll look at a video or they look at something and they're like 0.93
01:02:00.240 dude what the fuck you know and they don't understand where i'm coming from i don't monetize 0.91
01:02:05.360 anything that i do by the way you know i i do this because i love seeing people successful and i believe 0.99
01:02:11.580 that my purpose in life i feel like i've been given a gift i feel like i've been given a gift to help
01:02:17.980 people find something in themselves or show them something that they have in themselves that they
01:02:25.520 can maybe see in me that can help them change and you know i i express that in a little bit
01:02:30.860 different way than the key with the key with you lewis and andy is that when you say you come from a
01:02:35.440 place of love it's a proper understanding of love we've talked about this all the time love is not
01:02:39.160 unconditional coddling of people no that's not what love is right that's it is holding people to
01:02:44.040 account is speaking the truth it's not enabling to them yeah it's not enabling it's empowering 0.99
01:02:48.900 who you love more do you do you do you love the guy who uh you you know is is fucking up and wasting 0.98
01:02:54.980 his life as your friend right and he's becoming an alcoholic and you say nothing to him or do you 0.94
01:02:59.360 love more of this the other guy doing the same thing and you pull him aside you say hey dude 0.68
01:03:02.900 you're fucking up right right you may not like it in the moment that's right you may be that's 0.96
01:03:07.720 maybe uncomfortable that's right yeah yeah you know yeah quick funny story i gotta tell you about 0.97
01:03:12.260 this this is a really quick story so this speaks speaks a little bit of who andy is but
01:03:18.040 early on in working with him we had gotten to be friends but we weren't i mean i didn't know him
01:03:22.080 that well once caught a lot of flack for working with you yeah well that's not what i was going to
01:03:25.900 share but the point is is that so so two years ago my dad died of cancer but my dad was i'm not a big
01:03:31.460 car guy okay my dream car is a 60 uh 68 ford mustang that's what i get when i get some days because
01:03:38.000 that's that's what my grandfather drove anyway but my dad was a huge car guy and and i knew that as he was
01:03:44.520 on his way down i thought he'd really be blessed by by being able to ride andy's lambo so i said
01:03:50.360 to him i go uh hey dude and i was really like sheepish about asking this because i was like hey
01:03:55.000 uh do you do you think there's any chance that maybe my dad could could could take a ride in your
01:04:00.040 lambo he's like oh yeah and so i said to him i said well i'd be happy to like maybe give you some
01:04:06.380 money for that or you know he gets this blank look on his face give you some money to take a
01:04:13.100 i'm not gonna cuss but he looks and he goes what the f kind of person do you think i am
01:04:19.320 he's like i'm not gonna f and charge you you must have an f and low low view of my character
01:04:24.920 so but so that was the funny part about but the and i and i gotta brag on it but but but but but
01:04:31.040 the awesome part about it and and i tell people this i said you if you only see him as as just a
01:04:36.400 guy that cusses you don't get this so when my dad went a lot quicker than we thought he was gonna go 0.73
01:04:40.640 dude he went it happened like two weeks after yeah and like we didn't get this yeah and i get this this
01:04:46.340 it was very heartfelt text from him i still regret that he's saying dude i i i'm just feel terrible
01:04:52.100 that it ever happened i still feel terrible i go well no you shouldn't because when i told my dad
01:04:56.200 just even the thought of it he was so jack excited he was like he told because because he asked me
01:05:00.760 and literally like i was thinking like all right you know in the next month or two we'll get this
01:05:05.940 done dude he died two weeks later right and like i didn't yeah like i mean we didn't we nobody knew
01:05:10.520 he was gonna go that fast yeah and like dude i i i still feel like legitimately no no no no no you
01:05:16.400 don't have to but as a segue i mean kind of to keep it heavy okay yeah you you're doing a lot of
01:05:24.400 awesome stuff thank you all right so when you're you know on your deathbed what really do you want
01:05:31.020 to say this is what i did you know it's a great question i ask you that too heavy is that oh man
01:05:37.120 okay all right you know i want to i want because i want you to what i want people to say about me
01:05:41.340 yeah i want them to say that lewis was a symbol of what's possible for my life and he always
01:05:48.860 went after all of his dreams and and showed me that it was okay for me to chase any dream that i
01:05:56.020 had and i want them to just say wow like he really showed up and he gave it all he left it all in the
01:06:02.680 field and he loved everyone like his heart grew bigger and bigger every year and he made people feel
01:06:10.280 like they're the most important person in the world when he was with them and i think that for me is
01:06:15.700 the legacy that i'd love to live behind it's not how much money you know i want to make a lot of
01:06:20.240 money and achieve a lot of things as well like i think that's just going to happen but i don't care
01:06:24.320 people say like oh it was great that he was an all-american athlete like that means nothing to me
01:06:28.100 i want them to know i want them to have a feeling about me and to be a symbol for many many years to
01:06:35.560 come for people to talk about what's possible in life that's that's the thing what i want people to
01:06:41.820 talk about nice i think it's awesome yeah yeah man so you answer that look man i'm not going to
01:06:49.560 compete with lewis look i look guys we can talk about that another day here's what i want to hear
01:06:56.340 here's what i want to wrap it up because we're getting long here um and it would be easy to sit
01:07:01.120 here and talk all day yeah and dude i'd love to have you back someday i'd love to yeah back through
01:07:04.660 st louis or whatever yeah it'd be great um but guys uh please check this man out um he's one of
01:07:12.360 my favorite people to follow check out his book support him uh buy the book and this isn't about
01:07:18.700 hawking books either this is a book that i guarantee you you're going to read and you're going to feel
01:07:23.500 you're going to feel better about reading it and you're going to get something out of it and
01:07:27.780 you guys know that i'm a big reader i read a book a week um and i feel like even if you only get
01:07:33.560 one thing out of a book like one idea it was worth the time absolutely you know and i guarantee
01:07:37.900 you this is going to be one of those books that you're going to get multiple multiple points out
01:07:41.260 of so just to and just to emphasize the difference between this book and most books is at the end of
01:07:45.980 every chapter there's a number of exercises to help you get clear on what you want and how to get
01:07:49.760 there yeah so i think even if you just go to the end of the chapters and go through the exercises
01:07:53.600 it's going to be really helpful in getting clarity that's right yeah right well dude thank you so
01:07:58.440 much for being on the show it means a lot man appreciate it thanks for having me guys 0.92
01:08:01.940 definitely all right guys until next time don't be a bitch we're gonna let the band deal with this 1.00
01:08:07.980 in my 80s style old school uh-huh 0.99
01:08:16.580 okay
01:08:18.920 what's up
01:08:26.300 okay
01:08:26.380 you
01:08:26.840 you
