00:01:16.800 We are currently top five in all podcasts, ahead of some of the biggest names in the world.
00:01:23.660 And the reason for that is this.
00:01:26.340 You guys are doing a damn good job helping get the message out.
00:01:32.120 And guys, I appreciate that.
00:01:35.160 That's how business works, right?
00:01:37.060 Business works by providing a great product and people will talk about it.
00:01:40.580 And I just want to say thank you to you guys who believe in the message and believe in the movement
00:01:45.140 that we've created here, which is designed to help people become the motherfucking CEOs of themselves.
00:01:54.080 And today, we're going to talk about a very, very important part of becoming a motherfucking CEO.
00:02:03.240 And that is this.
00:02:05.660 It's something called swagger.
00:02:08.480 All right?
00:02:09.080 I haven't talked about this before.
00:02:11.780 But I am going to talk about it today.
00:02:15.660 If you guys have been listening for a while, you've heard me say how much I like to read.
00:02:21.100 And if you've literally listened to every single episode, at some point, you've heard me talk about how much I love American history.
00:02:27.920 I, contrary to the popular tone of our society, am really fucking proud to be American.
00:02:39.140 Okay?
00:02:39.760 And even with some of the stuff that we've done and the mistakes we've made as a country,
00:02:43.900 we are still the greatest nation on the face of this earth.
00:02:49.240 And if you don't think so, if you don't feel that way, feel free to go the fuck away.
00:02:54.620 All right?
00:02:55.840 I live here.
00:02:56.500 I'm proud to be here.
00:02:57.920 And I am proud to be American.
00:03:00.540 Now, most of you guys probably don't know this, but I recently bought a new house.
00:03:07.080 And the cool thing about this house, house, house, house, house, the cool thing about this house is this.
00:03:16.080 It's very historic.
00:03:17.840 It's actually connected to the history of Ulysses S. Grant.
00:03:22.580 Now, he was a general, for those of you guys that don't know, for the Union side in the Civil War who became the 18th president about four or five years after the Civil War ended.
00:03:33.600 I thought, I think that's pretty cool.
00:03:36.580 I'm excited about this move.
00:03:38.660 But as we've been setting up for the move, I've been going through a lot of my old stuff.
00:03:43.880 And I came across a research paper that I had written in high school, and it was a super long paper.
00:03:49.560 It was like 70 pages long.
00:03:51.200 But I loved writing it because it was about something that I loved, which is this.
00:03:56.780 World War II fighter planes.
00:03:59.260 And I know that sounds extremely weird to be interested in, but I've always been interested in those kind of things.
00:04:05.980 Anybody who knows anything about World War II aircraft knows that the undisputed champion of fighter planes in the World War II era was the American P-51 Mustang.
00:04:18.320 All right?
00:04:18.620 And so I read over my research paper, and I started getting on YouTube and watching some of the videos and listening to the documentaries about the P-51.
00:04:29.480 And it actually led me to coming up with a really cool idea for this project that I've got going on next year, which I'll talk more about that later.
00:04:37.340 But the reason I bring this up is I was watching this documentary about the men who flew the P-51.
00:04:43.560 And I thought, man, you know, there is a huge lesson here for entrepreneurship and success.
00:04:49.360 And that's what I'm going to talk about for the next couple minutes.
00:04:52.160 And before I do, I don't want to assume that anybody knows anything about World War II because more and more it seems like the only thing that a lot of you young bucks are taught in schools these days is that you're fucking special.
00:05:03.660 And that everybody should get some sort of participation trophy and that you're blessed, you know, with riches and gold coins for being fucking born.
00:05:12.580 And so here is my quick history lesson for you.
00:05:18.100 Nazi Germany started World War II by invading Poland.
00:05:21.460 And from there, the Nazis pretty much steamrolled every single country that got in their way.
00:05:27.100 The one exception was Great Britain, who somehow managed to survive brutal bombings and attacks to fight off the Nazis.
00:05:34.320 And if you're English and you listen to this podcast, which I know a lot of you are, major props to your ancestors, your grandparents, because they were fucking awesome.
00:05:43.580 All right.
00:05:43.940 Total badasses.
00:05:45.040 But for the most part, the German war machine was unstoppable.
00:05:49.020 And the Nazi Air Force, called the Luftwaffe, dominated every single air battle they were in.
00:05:56.100 All right.
00:05:57.180 So you have to understand they were dominant.
00:06:01.300 All right.
00:06:01.640 The Nazis had conquered pretty much every single country that they tried to invade.
00:06:08.140 They had destroyed every single city in their path.
00:06:12.220 They were effective.
00:06:13.280 They were intimidating.
00:06:14.240 And they were fucking scary.
00:06:16.100 And if anybody would have said back then that they weren't afraid of the Nazis, they would have been fucking lying.
00:06:23.180 Okay.
00:06:23.540 Everybody was afraid of them.
00:06:24.980 Even the Americans.
00:06:27.100 But here's the reality.
00:06:29.380 The pilots who flew the P-51 fucking dominated every epic air battle they ever had with the Nazis.
00:06:38.580 They played a huge, huge pivotal role in defeating one of the most impressive military powers that there has ever existed on the face of this earth.
00:06:49.020 And I want you to think about how they did that.
00:06:51.460 And to give you some idea of how they did that, I actually have a couple quotes I want to read to you.
00:07:00.120 Okay.
00:07:00.740 These are quotes from guys who actually flew P-51 Mustangs in battle.
00:07:06.680 Okay.
00:07:07.120 And I wrote down their quotes word for word so I didn't screw it up.
00:07:10.040 These guys, keep in mind, these guys were in their 20s and early 30s.
00:07:15.360 Okay.
00:07:15.820 During World War II.
00:07:17.780 P-51 pilot Larry Powell said this, a fighter pilot is basically an individualist.
00:07:23.800 Nobody in his extended family has any ego because he's got it all.
00:07:29.540 All right.
00:07:30.020 I love that quote.
00:07:32.360 Don Blakensley said this, I was young and pretty cocky.
00:07:36.680 Actually, I was a conceited son of a bitch.
00:07:39.240 I thought I was pretty good.
00:07:40.540 But the truth is, you've never heard of a pilot who didn't think he was the number one fighter pilot in the world.
00:07:48.520 And then a third one, Frank Girard said this, when you come into combat with someone else, you know you're going to beat them.
00:07:55.720 If you think you're going to be a defensive fighter pilot, you've lost.
00:08:00.600 If you don't think that you're a winner, you're in the wrong fucking business.
00:08:04.700 Okay.
00:08:05.740 There was one word that comes to mind when I hear these quotes about these guys.
00:08:11.380 And that's this, swagger.
00:08:13.100 These pilots had it.
00:08:14.500 They had to have it.
00:08:15.920 And when the U.S. entered World War II, our military wasn't in the best fighting shape.
00:08:20.760 But it didn't matter to these guys.
00:08:22.640 Okay.
00:08:22.900 In their minds, they were fucking Americans.
00:08:26.280 They were the defenders of the free world.
00:08:29.240 They were the bravest.
00:08:30.200 They were the baddest.
00:08:31.100 They were ready to kick ass.
00:08:32.740 And it didn't matter what anybody else thought.
00:08:36.600 Okay.
00:08:37.420 They were winners.
00:08:38.840 So guess what?
00:08:39.780 They fucking won.
00:08:41.180 And that's how it works.
00:08:42.540 There are critical situations in life where being nice and meek and quote unquote humble is not what's called for.
00:08:50.840 All right.
00:08:51.200 And that's not a popular thing to say right now because everybody out there is telling you to keep your mouth shut, stay humble, be modest, be meek, be quiet.
00:09:01.940 And you know what?
00:09:02.660 There's value to that because you can learn by being humble.
00:09:06.480 But when it comes to executing, you've got to have swagger.
00:09:12.420 Okay.
00:09:12.860 And modesty in that situation isn't going to help you or anybody else because the stakes in this life are way too high for that.
00:09:22.200 All right.
00:09:22.480 You have to understand that it's okay when you're in the middle of battle, when you're in the middle of business, when you're in the middle of a sport to have obnoxious levels of swagger.
00:09:33.600 You have to be conceited sometimes, okay?
00:09:37.340 And the reality is this.
00:09:38.780 You may not have a lot of resources to justify your confidence.
00:09:43.860 You may not have the talents or abilities that you can brag about.
00:09:47.680 So, in order for you to win, you're going to have to do the only thing that you can do.
00:09:53.840 You're going to have to believe that you are there and you are going to fucking win.
00:10:00.640 You have to understand that in order to be a winner, you've got to act like one first.
00:10:08.560 Okay.
00:10:08.840 Just like I tell you, you have to have huge goals because you're probably going to fall a little short of those goals.
00:10:14.580 It's the same with confidence.
00:10:16.040 You have to talk yourself into a huge level of confidence when it comes to executing because there's going to be little things that happen that chip away at your confidence and chip away at your self-reliance and chip away at your belief.
00:10:30.380 So, you have to do everything you can to keep that swagger in the fucking stratosphere so that you can win.
00:10:39.500 Even if you come across a little bit like an asshole, so what?
00:10:43.520 I tell you this much.
00:10:44.980 If I were an American citizen back in World War II, I sure as hell would want to know that the men who were out there fighting for my freedom weren't timid, humble, meek, little bitty nice guys.
00:10:56.840 I'd want them to be cocky.
00:10:58.620 I'd want them to be confident.
00:11:00.100 I'd want them to be supremely self-assured.
00:11:03.840 I would want to know that they had what it takes on the inside to kick the fuck out of anybody that comes in their way.
00:11:12.780 That's how you win a war and that's how you win in business and in life.
00:11:18.140 You become a winner by believing that you're a winner and acting like one.
00:11:23.840 But there is another factor to consider.
00:11:26.120 Those pilots were flying one hell of an amazing piece of machinery.
00:11:32.800 The P-51 was superior to every other aircraft in the sky.
00:11:39.080 They had issues with it at first, but when they replaced the engine with a Rolls-Royce engine, it became one of the best, most historic, most successful aircraft in the history of the world.
00:11:51.440 The P-51 became the fastest plane on the planet, the most fuel efficient.
00:11:57.180 It had the longest range.
00:11:58.940 It was the most versatile.
00:12:00.800 And the most important thing for the pilots was it was extremely maneuverable.
00:12:06.180 A good pilot could make this plane do things that no other plane could do, and that's the key.
00:12:13.540 Because sure, you have to believe you're a winner.
00:12:16.500 And yes, you have to act like you're a winner, but it's absolutely essential to have a superior product.
00:12:25.620 These pilots, they were already confident in themselves.
00:12:29.120 They became twice as confident when they knew that they were flying the best.
00:12:34.220 They had the right attitude.
00:12:36.660 They had the right attitude.
00:12:39.680 They had excellent equipment.
00:12:42.240 They had the right mindset.
00:12:44.180 And guess what?
00:12:45.060 They had the best machinery.
00:12:47.260 And when you put all of that together, you're going to have massive amounts of confidence that are going to take you beyond what you ever thought you could be.
00:12:57.580 Okay?
00:12:57.800 So if you're in business and you think you've got the swag down because a lot of you motherfuckers think you do, and you really don't, but the truth is, let's say you think you do, but then from time and time again, you still battle these huge doubts and lacks of confidence, and you find yourself second-guessing yourself.
00:13:16.220 You need to ask yourself some questions.
00:13:19.040 What about my machinery?
00:13:21.480 What about my product or service?
00:13:23.480 Is it of the highest quality?
00:13:25.340 Does it solve a problem?
00:13:26.820 How well does it solve the problem?
00:13:29.460 Does it provide value?
00:13:30.900 How much value does it provide?
00:13:33.120 How could it be better?
00:13:34.660 How could it be off the charts?
00:13:37.240 Excellent.
00:13:37.680 Because here's the deal, guys.
00:13:39.700 At the end of the day, you're not going to be able to sustain swagger without being able to offer the world something of actual, objective excellence.
00:13:49.420 All right?
00:13:49.640 And that's where a lot of you guys miss.
00:13:51.400 A lot of you guys, you want to make the cheapest product.
00:13:54.280 You want to make the fastest thing that you can do.
00:13:56.620 And you don't put the time into making something excellent.
00:13:59.300 And that's why you're fucking failing.
00:14:00.900 Because no amount of swagger is going to make up for an inferior product.
00:14:05.540 It's just not going to happen.
00:14:06.680 You're going to have to be able to maintain the mindset by supporting the mindset with actual, real excellence.
00:14:18.320 Okay?
00:14:19.060 Guys, we defeated the Nazis with self-confidence and superior equipment.
00:14:25.100 That was and is the way we do shit here in America.
00:14:30.080 It's the way you're going to fly circles around your competition.
00:14:33.560 It's the way your achievements and accomplishments are going to soar far beyond what you ever imagined.
00:14:42.120 It's the way you're going to win the war of business.
00:14:44.780 And it's the way you're going to win the war of life.
00:14:48.180 You have to think like a winner.
00:14:50.180 And you have to build something that wins.
00:14:54.300 It's the way you're going to win the war.
00:15:10.220 It's the way you're gonna win the war.
