The New York City Board of Elections was trying to elect a new mayor, and one of the candidates noticed that there seemed to be more than 100,000 votes that seemed to come out of nowhere. And once he noticed, other people noticed. And when he pointed it out, sometime later they looked into it, they found that 135,000 pre-election votes were being counted because they were not properly purged from the system.
