In this episode of the highlight of human civilization, Scott Adams talks about a new hypnosis technique called Decrypt, and the new VP pick, J.D. Vance. He also talks about Elon Musk's new carbon fiber battery that could make planes and cars 50% lighter, and why you shouldn't believe climate change models.
00:03:33.980We'll talk about all the things about him.
00:03:35.980Apparently, he's scaring the Democrats, at least the pundits on CNN, because he's young and he's a populist.
00:03:44.940But more importantly, he could take the Trump-like message into another generation and might be popular to young people because he is young.
00:04:01.340Here's some of the things we know about him.
00:04:03.780Apparently, he has a number of changed opinions.
00:04:06.320So he was pro-war when he joined the military, was a Marine, but then he was, you know, decided that war was maybe wasting a lot of people and resources.
00:04:20.160And I think he was at one point more pro-vaccine than you might be comfortable with.
00:04:28.120So he's been anti-Trump and pro-Trump.
00:04:32.320So he has been back and forth on a number of things.
00:04:36.380And I don't know exactly how to think about that.
00:04:40.200Because on one hand, I like mental flexibility.
00:04:45.760I like people who go into a situation with an opinion and then learn more and come out with a different opinion.
00:04:54.980And if it happened more than once, even better.
00:04:59.080However, it does sort of highlight his youth and inexperience, meaning that that's a lot of things that are really important to change your mind about fairly recently.
00:05:14.160So I guess my biggest issue with him is I don't know what I'm getting.
00:05:19.260You're definitely getting the smartest guy in the game.
00:05:21.600One of the things I posted about, Elon Musk agreed with this on X, that Trump had won the IQ contest.
00:05:32.660So his team, you know, Trump plus J.D. Vance, their combined IQ is way above Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
00:05:43.740I think most people would generally agree with that.
00:05:46.280So if you're looking for smart, that contest is over.
00:07:23.860And somebody pointed out to me that the Bitcoin subculture is like its own little culture.
00:07:32.300And if you get somebody who's known to be pro-Bitcoin, you automatically get a whole bunch of Bitcoin tech bros that maybe don't care about much else.
00:08:35.520I'm not positive that Trump had him picked before the assassination attempt.
00:08:40.800As others have pointed out, once the assassination attempt happened, he had complete freedom to pick whatever vice president he wanted.
00:08:48.540For example, if he really, really needed to win the election, a lot of people were saying, you know, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he had a good Republican running mate who was also black.
00:09:04.660Oh, Tim Scott, you know, solid Republican.
00:09:09.620Yeah, maybe he'd be a good, solid backup.
00:09:13.180And you thought, well, what about Dr. Ben Carson?
00:09:16.760Yeah, he feels like a good, solid Republican, you know, wouldn't be too exciting.
00:11:55.420And I think that the DEI argument has largely been slaughtered by the Secret Service campaign, Secret Service detail that was protecting him.
00:12:07.420I mean, that's the strongest anti-DEI argument is that it nearly got Trump killed.
00:12:13.160Now, am I saying something that's beyond the facts?
00:12:46.180We're pretty far from knowing what the reality is.
00:12:49.000But the impression of it really looks like it was a DEI problem.
00:12:54.180Did you know, as Christopher Rufo pointed out today on X, that there are wildly different fitness requirements for male and female Secret Service agents?
00:13:06.920Like how many pull-ups you can do and what you can do fitness-wise?
00:13:15.840Because you wouldn't have any women who qualified.
00:13:18.720Well, you'd have very few if the fitness standards were designed for men.
00:13:22.260So, we do have documented proof that these standards are substantially lower for women and that they have a target to get 30% women into the Secret Service and that there's what looks like a DEI hires the boss of the whole operation.
00:13:43.820Now, I say that because she didn't seem to have the right qualifications for the job.
00:13:49.620So, it looks like a DEI hire because it's a woman.
00:13:53.240And how do you not think that that's part of the problem?
00:13:56.700Again, there's no verification, no proof that any kind of DEI thing caused any of the problems with the assassination attempt.
00:19:15.600Why is it that this person, who's a lot like me, or at least I have some feeling or affection for her, and looks smart, because she comes across as smart, by the way.
00:19:26.140And she comes across as somebody who actually did the work and, you know, looked into it and changed her mind, which shows, you know, intellectual flexibility.
00:19:38.000And the fact that she has 23 million followers, you don't get that without skill and talent, right?
00:20:02.880So I'm going to disagree with Matt Walsh, who I think he felt was, you know, time to talk to the base and the, I guess, the lifestyle modeling that Republicans would do, something like that.
00:20:17.600But I think this was a brilliant choice.

00:21:46.060David Sachs from the All In Pod gave a speech.
00:21:50.160I felt sorry for him, because if you've ever given a speech where the people aren't basically paying attention, which is, that was the situation, because the people were milling around and talking in the convention.
00:22:13.260The only thing that makes speaking to a crowd easy is when you connect.
00:22:20.100All right, I've done a lot of, a lot of in-person public speaking.
00:22:23.800And I can tell you that if you do a speech where the tables are arranged in circles, you know, not circles, but rounds, they call them, round tables, and everybody's eating, they're going to be talking to each other while you're giving your oh-so entertaining speech.
00:22:43.200So when I would give speeches, the first question I'd ask is, what's the table arrangement?
00:22:47.880If it were audience arrangement, and they were going to be sitting there doing nothing but listening to me, great, that's going to work perfectly.
00:22:55.520If it's tables, and I'm going to be talking while they're eating dessert, while dessert is being served at the tables, you don't have a chance.
00:23:08.260And the convention is one of those situations.
00:23:11.500So unless you're one of the superstars, if you're one of the just interesting people, you're not going to get much attention, and it definitely affects your ability to speak.
00:23:22.220I did not think that David Sachs was comfortable.
00:23:24.600He didn't look like he was, you know, in his element.
00:23:32.340He's amazing on podcasts and in person, but it looked like he was a little bit out of his comfort zone there.
00:23:42.400And I give extra special appreciation to anybody who can do something uncomfortable, do it in front of everybody, and do it because you think it matters.
00:23:56.080So if that sounded like a criticism, do you see how I turned that into a compliment?
00:24:01.520The criticism is I don't think that was his game.
00:24:03.760You know, standing in front of the big crowd of Republicans and giving a political speech, it's probably unfamiliar territory.
00:24:11.620But boy, you go into unfamiliar territory like that, and you know it's not your thing, and you know millions will be watching, and you do it anyway?
00:24:55.420Did he say at one point, we are effectively run in this country by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices they've made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too?
00:26:29.340All right, well, apparently Morning Joe is back on the air.
00:26:32.180I haven't seen it, but somebody said Morning Joe is back.
00:26:34.640Like, I'm not so sure that the real reason Morning Joe was canceled, or at least left off the air for a day, I'm not so sure it's because they were afraid of him.
00:26:45.620You know, we don't know what conversation happened.
01:24:57.660And then I thought, well, I'm going to have to like find a ping pong player.
01:25:03.400And then I thought, oh, I might have to make a friend.
01:25:07.840Because, yeah, I checked with the people I knew and, you know, people are either out of town or they live far away or, you know, it's really hard.
