Happy 4th of July! In this episode of the show, we talk about a bunch of things, some of which have to do with the Fourth of July, and some that don't. We also talk about how AI can do some amazing things, and how it can be even better than we can imagine.
00:14:13.420All right, well, Trump, true to his word, New York Post is reporting that he's already started to put together the letters that he's sending out to the other countries,
00:14:28.280telling them what kind of reciprocal tariffs they're going to pay.
00:14:35.840And I'm wondering, did Trump find a brilliant workaround for the fact that there were too many deals to actually negotiate that quickly?
00:14:50.440You know, in a perfect world, there would have been a whole bunch of done deals where, you know, dozens, if not hundreds of countries would have negotiated terms,
00:15:02.320and we would agree to them, and we'd have signed deals, but nothing happens as quickly as you wanted to in the real world.
00:15:10.080So did Trump find a workaround for that, where he's just going to negotiate with a few big countries like China and Vietnam,
00:15:21.280but for the rest of them, he's just going to send them a letter and tell them what their payment will be to have access to our markets,
00:15:30.260and that if they want to negotiate, he can say, nah, you can make me an offer, I'll listen to it, but we don't need anything.
00:15:41.140You're going to pay these, well, the importing company, the American company, will be absorbing some percentage of it,
00:15:49.860but we don't know in the real world what percent.
00:15:52.820Do you think he found a way to make this work?
00:21:30.300Well, Elon, I'm sorry, Joe Rogan was talking to the CEO of a big company, I forget which company, some big company, doesn't matter which one.
00:21:47.680And he asked the CEO, or the CEO had an opinion about why wokeness died.
00:22:42.460Do you think the reason that wokeness died was directly related to Elon Musk buying Twitter, which allowed, for the first time, something close to free speech?
00:23:09.700Not basically illegal, but illegal at the federal level.
00:23:16.540As much as I think that Elon Musk rescued free speech, which I believe he did,
00:23:24.680I don't know if that rescue of free speech is what ended wokeness.
00:23:28.420I feel like what might have ended it is finding out that most of the country was against it, and Trump made it illegal, at least in the DEI part.
00:23:40.480He made it illegal also the trans athletes on women's teams.
00:23:46.900So I feel like Trump is the one who did it by simply making it illegal to be woke at a point where it's destructive to society.
00:23:56.940I mean, you could be woke in your brain, but if you're going to implement it in society in a way that destroys the fabric of sports and the economy, well, you don't get to do that.
00:24:11.440So I'm going to say, I don't know, maybe 50% Elon buying Twitter and 50% Trump making wokeness illegal.
00:24:22.900According to CNN's Harry Enten, and maybe this is more on the same thing,
00:24:32.060according to four different big respective polls, a clear majority of Americans back-deporting all illegal immigrants.
00:24:42.900So depending on the poll, between 55% and 64% of poll respondents, these would be American citizens, want to send back all illegal immigrants.
00:25:00.340Now, did you know that in 2016, only 36% of the respondents said, send everybody back?
00:25:09.600So when Trump first was saying, hey, close these borders and deport everybody, he didn't really have majority support, a little over a third.
00:25:22.100Now, he has solidly over half of the country says, send them all back.
00:25:28.320Now, mostly, I would say, that's because there was so much of it between 2016 and now.
00:25:34.560So people just said, yeah, you know, a little bit of immigration was good, but this is totally out of control, and now you have to send them all back.
00:25:45.640So some of it is Trump being very persuasive, and some of it is the situation worsened.
00:25:53.360And so the news showed a different situation to people.
00:25:59.660I did not know that a majority of Americans, so that's got to include a bunch of independents at least, if not Democrats,
00:26:11.920that a majority want to send back all illegal immigrants?
00:26:17.540That's way more than even Trump recently promised, because ICE and Trump were both saying, we're going to start with the worst first.
00:26:31.240So they never dropped the idea that they were going to deport everybody who was illegal.
00:26:36.200But there was a practical limitation to that, meaning that they could, you know, work for years just trying to get the worst ones, the ones that had broken laws after they got here.
00:26:48.440So I thought, well, yeah, you can say you want to deport every single one, but if you start with the worst first, it's going to get harder and harder to find the worst, because once you get all the low-hanging fruit, you'd be like, all right, well, I know there's more criminal, undocumented people.
00:27:30.260The Wall Street Journal seems to be a little bit pro-Trump in terms of the big, beautiful bill.
00:27:39.060So the editorial board is complaining that the Democrats are lying about the big, beautiful bill.
00:27:49.780So that's sort of a pro-Trump message, that they're saying the Democrats are lying to you.
00:27:55.740So the things they're lying about is saying that the Republicans are going to take away all your health care, or that people who are eligible and should be getting Medicare are going to be dropped from it.
00:28:15.480Yeah, so the CBO had said that 4.8 million people would rather lose their Medicare that they have now than get a job or apply to school to learn something.
00:28:34.960Because if you're in school or you have a job, and you don't even have to work many hours, it's like 20 hours a week,
00:28:41.160you can even volunteer just to maintain your health care.
00:28:47.160But the CBO estimated that 4.8 million people wouldn't do that.
00:28:52.920Could you imagine being so lazy that you wouldn't take any kind of job at all to maintain your own health care coverage?
00:29:02.600No job, nothing for 20 hours a week, or even just sign up for a community college.
00:29:20.780So are we supposed to have empathy for people who want us to pay for them while they don't work, even though they're able-bodied?
00:29:29.720So I think Democrats have convinced themselves that their relative who's in a wheelchair and can't walk, can't speak, that they're going to lose their Medicare.
00:30:16.900If all Democrats, probably maybe two-thirds of them, would agree with the statement that everything's going to hell under Trump, do they have an example of something that affected them?
00:30:32.880Because I wake up every morning, and nothing seems to be affecting me.
00:30:38.620There's nothing that Trump has done except maybe decreasing the number of dangerous, undocumented people.
00:34:41.240So when I ask the question about the hellscape, I'm kind of fascinated by the troll activity.
00:34:52.480Because if I say anything about policy that is sort of anti-Democrat, I'll get at least one, and usually just one, comment from somebody who looks like an AI troll or maybe just a paid troll.
00:35:10.040But they have some stuff in common that doesn't make them look like regular commenters.
00:35:15.000So to my question about where exactly is this hellscape people are living, Richard Engwin, who I don't know if is a real person or not, replied,
00:35:27.000Scott Adams' smug dismissal of legitimate fears about Trump's authoritarian tendencies is a dangerous oversimplification that ignores the real trauma inflicted on marginalized communities by his policies.
00:35:42.820To which I say, that is a perfect Democrat response.
00:35:49.600It did the two things that Democrats do.
00:35:52.020So the first thing is they don't address the point.
