00:08:16.020 picture and if the ocean picture in our lives is metaphorically like our lives then by changing the
00:08:25.620 frame you change the experience of it so reframing is simply different uh different frames around events to
00:08:33.300 go from less productive to more productive thinking less useful to more useful experiences and of course

00:12:07.780 on it in my opinion it was kind of kind of annoying um that's one of the reasons why scott is considered
00:12:14.100 the most influential personal development writer of all time and space it's because so many people
00:12:18.500 have just stolen his ideas i changed a few words and then put their name on it uh so it goes now about
00:12:25.460 reframing when it's just who you are you don't have to think about it and this is why hypnosis works so

00:12:59.380 right now reframing 101 as i said so what the original reframing book teaches and it's called
00:13:09.140 the structure of magic by bandler and grinder they developed and sort of applied talk hypnosis model
00:13:16.020 called neurolinguistic programming or nlp back in the mid to late 70s and how that got started how
00:13:22.900 reframing was figured out was richard bandler who i had the opportunity to meet and train with him
00:13:27.620 personally that was wild experience like one of the most successful masters of human history
00:13:33.620 just casually chatting about how to deprogram liberals that was a fun time
00:13:38.740 of their terminal tds it couldn't can it be done yes it can
00:13:44.340 he richard bandler in college he had these talk therapy group sessions that were on tapes
00:13:51.620 as in it was actually tape remember those days when taping was a thing and his job as a student
00:13:58.180 student worker was to transcribe all of these talk therapy sessions so and that was back when you would
00:14:05.460 listen to it and you would like you know type out the transcript for right and that was his job i think
00:14:09.620 it was one of the professors at the time and over the course of all of these hours upon hours upon hours
00:14:14.660 of talk therapy sessions he noticed that there were patterns in the words he was typing the patterns were
00:14:21.620 some people had more productive ways of thinking about their issue and other people had less productive
00:14:29.060 ways and he noticed that the people who got better from the therapy used different words to describe it
00:14:34.820 or they were led to use different words while they were in sort of like that in the zone they were
00:14:41.140 in in train with the therapist they were in a hypnotic-like state in conversation
00:14:47.540 and by using different words to describe experience experiences their experiences changed
00:14:54.020 scott would talk about the user interface for reality he would talk about creating your reality
00:15:00.580 programming your reality reprogramming reprogramming your own reality and there is a fascinating
00:15:08.100 realization that bandler and grinder had which they wrote about in the book called the structure of
00:15:11.940 magic which was that there are certain native american tribes and this is to this day the case for various
00:15:18.500 locals original locals og locals uh in the developing world this one particular tribe that they studied
00:15:27.460 they had three words for all colors so all colors there's something like 30 000 different colors that can be
00:15:34.820 experienced by the human eye they described them only as one of three words and as a result the people
00:15:43.380 could only see three colors do we know those three words uh uh they're in the beginning of the structure of
00:15:52.580 magic and in in native american language it wouldn't necessarily mean us to if we're if we're not okay
00:15:57.860 and i'm not in my office at the moment this is home office experience hi everybody um yes but but one was
00:16:04.340 something i think one was like blue green and the other was like red all reds browns and oranges and
00:16:10.820 the other was something else right it's like collapsing reality just to three things and that you might say
00:16:17.140 is the word that they like to use was an impoverished reality if you're if you're using words that keep you from
00:16:25.460 unlocking freedom and having better experiences then you are experiencing an impoverished reality and so
00:16:33.060 that's kind of a stark example but that really is how words work if you're using words to describe
00:16:38.740 your experience then everything changes if you use different words right it's all downstream
00:16:45.300 and what the hypnosis session does in clinical hypnosis is when the person is induced and then
00:16:51.700 deepened into that trance-like state where they're highly suggestible it's kind of like a waking sleep
00:16:57.380 type of intentional zoning out we've all had it reading a great book or watching a riveting movie
00:17:03.860 or having a conversation with with a loved one we kind of just like zone out and we have we sort of lose
00:17:09.140 the sense of time passing that's a hypnotic state and so we go into and out of those at all times
00:17:14.900 and kids under five actually in hypnotic and highly suggestible state i just wanted to interject i actually
00:17:20.980 have the structure of magic in front of me and the three words are lock tit and to lock and lock
00:17:27.700 translates to red tit translates to green blue and to lock translates to yellow orange brown that's all
00:17:34.340 thank you owen yeah that's fine so so those are the three colors everything that you now see is one of
00:17:39.860 those three colors only and i think later in the book they talk about uh there's a different tribe that
00:17:45.220 they speak of i believe it's um a west african tribe where they they did not have words to describe

00:18:34.260 halfway uh almost all the way these sorts of specific descriptions of distance they did not have
00:18:42.100 words for and they did not therefore have experiences of them i could not live in this time frame yeah but
00:18:48.180 this is literally like the present day in certain parts of the world and i can't do it the og locals as
00:18:53.540 i as i described and and and then when you realize we're so smart well we have only three colors
00:19:01.460 colors for other parts of our experience and therefore we experience only those three colors
00:19:08.180 so we're analogous we're analogizing here which which does in fact work so let's say in a hypnosis
00:19:14.660 session you have been a smoker for 30 years and let's say you have been smoking a number of packs a
00:19:20.820 day and you just you want to stop you haven't only found the thing you've tried you tried the patches
00:19:24.660 you tried the gum you tried all these different things you tried cold turkey you tried this you tried
00:19:27.780 that you just keep going back well what happens in the in the hypnosis session is you are uh let's
00:19:34.260 say you go through the induction start to feel relaxed and kind of chill your conscious mind's
00:19:39.540 guard goes down a little bit okay this is great kind of like a guided visualization meditation type session
00:19:44.340 and almost like a a massage of some of some way it sort of feels like that the sort of bonding
00:19:50.100 experience with the skilled hypnotist and then don't worry we come into this you can create your own
00:19:55.940 reframed i have to set i have to set the stage for how this actually works and the hypnosis experience
00:20:00.500 because you can do it to yourself the inductions are followed by deepeners and funny enough if you
00:20:09.780 actually had a hypnosis session the practitioner will often use metaphors related to depth so they
00:20:16.980 will for example talk about how you're going deeper and deeper into the experience you're sinking
00:20:22.020 deeper and deeper into the chair so your body is physically telling you where it is that you're
00:20:26.100 going and they will also use visual metaphors of like going walking down flights of stairs walking
00:20:33.060 down your favorite path going down an elevator and watch the numbers you go deeper so the words that are
00:20:38.500 being used are creating an experience for your body and for your mind so right there we already have
00:20:44.660 words creating a new experience just from the words alone that the hypnotist is saying and once you're in
00:20:50.420 that state they will often begin to tell a a metaphorical story or use a number of analogies that
00:20:58.820 a five-year-old's mind can understand because the inner child we all have the experience of is our
00:21:05.220 subconscious mind our subconscious mind across all of us is approximately five years old in its
00:21:10.420 understanding of things so if you've ever talked to a five-year-old they need absolute precision
00:21:16.420 multi-sensory descriptions of things to know how it works they don't really do well with abstract or
00:21:22.500 theoretical or hypothetical or word salad as scott would always like to say has to be specific and
00:21:28.740 precise and tagged something real how does it look how does it feel these sorts of things that's why the
00:21:34.180 great best way to teach kids math is using like little magnets or numbers or physical items and the
00:21:40.820 same thing with like fractions or even algebra you can teach if you're using to young child if you're
00:21:46.020 using physical items to demonstrate differences and numbers and the numbering of things versus just
00:21:52.340 this is a one and one plus this sign is one because then that would be memorizing is not the math it's the
00:21:57.380 visual pattern we want the kids to take ownership of it and figure it out so that they can be an
00:22:02.820 independent learner sooner and so when we return to the hypnosis session that sort of multi-sensory
00:22:09.860 simulation will occur inside of the hypnosis session so inside the hypnosis session let's say
00:22:16.980 this person who has been a chain smoker for all these years while they're in that five-year-old inner
00:22:23.700 child suggestible uh state in the trance and which the subconscious mind becomes suggestible the
00:22:30.260 hypnotist will tell a story in which the person listening has a new identity has a new identity
00:22:37.780 just from the words alone and it's because they're thinking new things they have different feelings
00:22:42.820 about them they suggest different actions being taken and therefore different outcome and the identity
00:22:48.420 that is then given to the person in this trance is something like i am a non-smoker not i want to quit
00:22:57.700 i want to stop i want to those are negations okay those are negations those are all the things you
00:23:02.180 don't want to do like one of the worst one of the hardest ways to ever lose a single pound of unnecessary
00:23:07.300 fat is i don't want to be fat what did i just say i just said because five-year-olds have a hard time
00:23:13.860 with don't do that and it's like well you're just talking about what i shouldn't be doing but what
00:23:19.060 should i be doing instead you give me this is every parents have young children's experience
00:23:25.300 tell the kid not to do something you're just telling them to do it and then you think they're
00:23:29.220 trying to aggravate you but they may not actually get well what ought i be doing instead specific
00:23:34.660 precise instructions they make a mess they spill the piece and they spill the piece you know don't do
00:23:39.300 that rather that something like let's now pick up the peas and put them in this little container where
00:23:45.940 they go it's it's precise these peas over here for those who've come in a little bit late i'm joshua
00:23:51.460 at bicek and we're almost about to teach reframing 101 specifically with the steps and how you can do
00:23:56.740 it yourself but what i'm doing is explaining the hypnosis experience and why it works so well so
00:24:01.620 quick what affirmations do is it's effectively a micro hypnosis session a micro self-hypnosis section
00:24:09.300 session that you run it again and again we what scott would always do is say the things that you want
00:24:14.580 to be real like 15 times that was his method taught and reframe your brain and elsewhere in his work
00:24:18.900 but really it's the repetition that's key and so in the sets of suggestions that you'll be given by
00:24:25.860 your hypnotist that you're working with in the clinical environment they will tell you the same
00:24:31.060 thing in a bunch of different ways they will they will speak to you'll use visuals and metaphors for
00:24:36.100 the mind's eye to talk about how things sound in the mind's ear how it smells to you so to speak
00:24:42.100 metaphorically speaking for the mind's nose right the mind's eyes is not just the only thing that you have
00:24:48.100 you have the other senses for your subconscious runs a simulation of it the subconscious can't tell
00:24:55.300 the real from the imagined that's why when you're watching a movie and it's intense you feel it in
00:25:01.300 your body your subconscious mind because you're in a trance doesn't know the difference you think it's
00:25:05.540 happening to you this is why romance novels have been so attractive for so many generations of women
00:25:11.780 the writing is so multi-sensory that they feel like it's actually happening and they're actually
00:25:16.900 experiencing this affair in real life physiologically in that trance life state and many become addicted
00:25:22.980 to that experience much in the same way that for men uh adult content of course and i mean adult wink
00:25:28.980 wink uh family show uh the body thinks it's actually happening to them the subconscious mind thinks it's
00:25:36.980 real and that's how all strange let's call them tastes may develop with prolonged consumption of
00:25:44.820 adult entertainment because you are telling your subconscious this is what i like okay so then you
00:25:50.580 begin to change that you begin to move you begin to evolve yourself and change you're uh impoverishing
00:25:56.980 yourself over and over and over stop impoverishing yourself kids wink wink now because of that experience the
00:26:06.180 subconscious mind with this hypothetical person goes oh i am uh i'm a non-smoker now it's just
00:26:12.500 who i am they come out of the session new identity they forget that there's a lighter in the car and
00:26:17.940 that there's a pack of half half filled pack of cigarettes in there and they just forget because
00:26:22.740 i'm a non-smoker now what do i care that it's the identity change and reframing to create them for
00:26:28.820 yourself this goes it goes like this we'll hold it right up here for you so you can see it okay we're
00:26:33.460 going to be working down this list here so when you use new words to describe your experiences you
00:26:39.860 have new thoughts about them because what are thoughts but words frankly if you have new words
00:26:45.060 to describe your experiences for example i just want to lose weight i want to stop being fat for example
00:26:50.900 the words you're using inside of your brain are fat fat fat i feel like a fat person and therefore i do
00:26:59.460 things that result in me overeating as much as i want to use my willpower to stop and then my outcome
00:27:03.620 is i gain five pounds by on this diet okay if we use different words an affirmation might be i first
00:27:12.100 name last name and and then you use the body method next you're actually going for as your affirmation
00:27:18.180 use different words well if you if you use affirmations like that what's going to happen
00:27:23.140 is you're going to think over time and it can be a very short order that you're the type of person
00:27:28.980 who is this body mass index and what does that person feel like what do those thoughts feel like
00:27:33.860 thoughts drive feelings i love myself versus i hate myself just those words alone very different
