00:03:44.240One of my reflections is I understand the anger that's out there against the federal
00:03:49.720government, against institutions like the Catholic Church.
00:03:52.720It is real and it is fully understandable, given the shameful history that we're all
00:03:58.840becoming more and more aware of and engaging ourselves to do better as Canadians.
00:04:06.040This is part of the manifesto of the left is that the church was involved in residential schools
00:04:14.260and those residential schools committed atrocities.
00:04:18.360If you believe those things, then as Gerald Butt says,0.80
00:04:21.500you find it understandable that they burn churches to the ground.
00:04:25.500in canada now there's well over 100 churches that have been vandalized burnt or completely burnt
00:04:34.860all the way down to the foundation as this one is i put it to you that if it were any other
00:04:40.960religious community if it were muslim mosques or maybe even jewish synagogues because there's been
00:04:46.720a bit of a slow motion crystal knocked against those in canada too but if there were literally
00:04:52.600100 mosques in Canada that had been vandalized, burnt or torched like Christian churches. It
00:04:59.480would be top of the news. It wouldn't be memory hold like the CBC is doing. It would be the
00:05:06.040subject of a national combined task force of RCMP, CSIS, local police. They would have many
00:05:14.220resources and the prime minister would have press conferences about it. But I can assure you that
00:05:22.060just as the cbc is totally silent on this so too is the political class i find that extremely
00:05:28.780heartbreaking these churches are the bedrock of so many of these small communities and by the way
00:05:34.780as i've just been standing out here four different people have come by to almost pay their respects
00:05:41.340to the church they're shocked to come by it and see the state of it and all four of them were
00:05:46.060indigenous themselves i asked a couple if they had ever attended the church and they said they
00:05:51.340hadn't but i know many of the churches that have been burned over the last few years have been
00:05:55.900churches that have been used by indigenous people themselves the indigenous couple i spoke to said
00:06:02.860they were in their own lay opinion thought that this was definitely the work of arson
00:06:08.300i'll let you know if the police or fire chiefs get back to me
00:06:14.220what can i say this is a slow motion pogrom against christians what do you call it when
00:06:20.860a hundred churches are burnt it's not just a stab at christianity itself but it's unraveling
00:06:27.420of community churches especially in smaller centers like meadow lake or san simon are not
00:06:34.140just a place where people pray it's a community center it's a daycare it's a school it's where
00:06:39.660concerts are held it's where cycle of life events are a coming of age a funeral a a wedding
00:06:48.780and that is gone now and i don't know if this church will be rebuilt i noticed there are a
00:06:55.820couple other churches nearby that were unscathed who knows uh why this church was targeted i should
00:07:02.940tell you something that i found a little bit eerie when i heard about this fire a couple of nights
00:07:07.500ago and i googled the name of the church you can see it's called the all saints uh ukrainian
00:07:12.700orthodox church the first all saints orthodox church that turned up in google was one in northern
00:07:21.100alberta with almost identical name they're not related i don't think and it too was torched and
00:07:31.180actually three men were charged there including from the local indian reserve near the alberta
00:07:37.580church of the same name isn't that crazy you you google the name of one church that was burnt
00:07:45.980and the first hit is another church with the same name in another province that was burnt
00:07:50.620because there's so many churches that have been burned i uh i believe in truth and
00:07:56.380reconciliation by the way i believe in telling the truth and finding out what happened and i do know
00:08:00.780that there were some I'll use the word atrocities committed at these Indian0.90
00:08:06.840residential schools as frankly there are at boarding schools for non-indigenous
00:08:12.420people too I mean it's something that has plagued both religious and secular
00:08:18.300boarding schools and of course there was the ideological component of these
00:08:23.040schools which was designed to acculturate them to the European Canadian culture
00:08:28.140And this is, I think, one of the reasons why people on the woke left hate it so much.
00:08:33.460They are opposed to that, what they would call the ethnic cleansing or the deracination of Indian children who went to these schools.
00:08:42.560I know a couple of Indians who went to these Indian schools.
00:08:45.380And by the way, they call themselves Indians.
00:08:47.720I know that's not the politically correct nomenclature.
00:08:51.040I know one senior lawyer in Alberta who said if he had not gone to the Indian residential school, he would not at all have had a chance to become a lawyer.
00:09:00.680He simply would not have that path in life of being a highly educated, highly successful lawyer.
00:09:10.620I know for a fact that the Cold Lake Indian Band petitioned the government asking for a residential school.
00:09:18.060They wanted their children to learn how to, the skills of the modern world.
00:09:23.980And many of these schools taught the boys how to farm and ranch and the girls how to sew and do other things.
00:09:30.060I'm not here to defend those schools, but I am here to say they are being defamed as instruments of a genocide.
00:09:39.760In fact, I've seen in the past couple of weeks, activists compare what happened at these Canadian residential schools to the Holocaust, where six million Jews were murdered.
00:09:51.580It's an outrageous comparison, but it's so dominant in the media culture, it seems to be the official line.
00:09:59.680And if you don't take it, well, I saw just the other day someone who wore a fairly benign t-shirt asking for evidence of the mass graves claim in front of the Kamloops Residential School.
00:10:12.120He was fired and humiliated because he did not bend the knee to the official explanation.
00:10:18.720I'm not for arson and neither am I for violence against indigenous people.
00:10:24.640I am for reconciliation, but perpetuating a race war by dividing people, I think it's a form of cultural Marxism that's heavily influenced by the George Floyd movement in the United States.
00:10:38.860Canada, of course, was part of the British Empire, which abolished the slave trade back in 1807.0.86
00:10:45.500And so if Canada became the destination for so many U.S. Blacks under what they called the Underground Railway.0.79
00:10:54.900So Canada cannot be undermined, attacked and demoralized by calling it an anti-Black racist country.0.81
00:11:01.080It just doesn't make sense with our history. We were always free.
00:11:05.380So I think that this indigenous movement has been grafted on the cultural Marxism of the hard left,
00:11:12.220whose purpose is not actually truth or reconciliation,
00:11:16.360but the perpetuation of division along racial lines.
00:11:20.300That's my opinion. I'm curious to hear what you think,
00:11:22.660but I certainly hope that you'll join with me in condemning the arson,
00:11:27.860which I think it's pretty clear that this is arson.
00:14:57.540Institutions increasingly defend this under the banner of academic freedom.
00:15:03.540But is it really academic freedom when students are being taught
00:15:08.540what to think instead of how to think?
00:15:12.540Schools are supposed to educate students, challenge them and expose them to different ideas,
00:15:19.540not indoctrinate them into extremist political views.
00:15:24.540Montreal universities and colleges have increasingly become battlegrounds over anti-Semitism, radical activism and far-left politics.
00:15:35.540And what we are exposing today shows one of the ways these ideas can make their way directly into student life.
00:15:45.540One of those tools, the student handbook.
00:15:49.540Students help fund these agendas through mandatory student fees.
00:15:56.540And these handbooks can end up in the hands of thousands of students.
00:16:02.540And this is not new. A few years ago, student agendas at Collège de Maisonneuve and Collège du Vieux Montréal made headlines for promoting political messages, such as Defund the Police, Trans Lives Matters, and other activist causes.
00:16:18.480Now, Canadian Students for Free Speech is pushing back.
00:16:23.480They have created their own patriotic student handbook,
00:16:31.240And for now, they plan to distribute 120 copies to the students
00:16:36.980as an alternative to these ideological agendas.
00:16:41.860If you want to help cover the cost, visit studentforfreespeech.ca.
00:16:46.820Today, I'm joined by Anastasia and Drew here outside McGill, a campus that has repeatedly controversies over anti-Semitism, radical activism and political polarization, leaving some students saying they no longer feel comfortable on their own campus.
00:18:15.720And that is why it's so amazing that Canadian Students for Free Speech have created this handbook that we're helping distribute today.
00:18:21.520The handbook that the Concordia Student Union produced that promotes revolutionary communism and Islamic terrorism cost the student union $30,000.
00:18:30.560So there's an exact number to this of how much they're spending to promote their radicalism.
00:18:34.060So do I feel safe? Well, no, because they're actively promoting the violation of Concordia's own policy, which is wild because they are supposed to represent Concordia students, yet they're actively violating Concordia's own policy.
00:18:46.120So you spoke with the representative of the student union who did create the other handbook. Can you explain a little bit what they say to you? Was it a good interaction? Was it an aggressive interaction?
00:19:00.920Like, you know, you calling Canada, so-called Canada, like feeling like it's a bit disrespectful to the people who do consider themselves Canadians.
00:19:07.580I would say that that's disrespectful to indigenous people who were, you know, effectively victims of genocide due to the people who then took over their land, right?
00:19:16.960So the interaction was very interesting.
00:19:19.940We have spoken with the individual that actually approved this handbook.
00:19:22.720And when I asked her about the contents in the handbook, she was referring to the anonymous individuals that they're keeping anonymous to keep their safety.
00:19:29.880I asked them, why do you have to keep them safe?
00:23:11.560I personally haven't experienced it yet, but also, like, because I know it's around, I try to avoid, like, Roddick Gates when I can, because I understand.
00:23:18.880What are your thoughts on those kinds of activities on campus?
00:23:21.540I mean, I'm definitely not for it. I believe campus should be a kind of neutral place.
00:23:25.520I think everyone's allowed to have their own opinion, but to sort of, like, force it on everyone else isn't really okay.
00:23:30.520I mean, as long as I'm paying for it, not great.
00:23:33.780So, yeah, not great, honestly, because I'm, first of all, paying fees to have a book.
00:23:41.560And, I mean, if most of the students agree that what's in the book isn't, like, right to Montreal or respecting Montreal in general, then why would I want to pay for something that's already not respecting the general consensus of the students, you know?
