00:00:00.000 Hello, my Rebels. Justin Trudeau, he said he's all in favor of independent journalism and he's
00:00:06.820 against foreign billionaires. Yeah, no, I think that's him gaslining us again. I'll have the
00:00:12.540 latest. And first, though, I want to invite you to become a subscriber to Rebel News Plus. I want
00:00:16.940 to show you this video clip of Justin Trudeau saying those things. So I want you to see the
00:00:20.260 video, not just hear the audio of it. We put together these podcasts as videos first. So
00:00:25.560 there's a lot of stuff to see. Just go to rebelnewsplus.com, click subscribe. It's eight

00:00:34.460 which is an even bigger bargain. And we rely on that money because we don't take any government
00:00:39.400 money, not that any is offered. So go to rebelnewsplus.com, get the good stuff and support your
00:00:45.140 favorite rebels. All right, here's today's podcast.
00:00:55.560 Tonight, Justin Trudeau says he supports independent journalism. Do you believe him? It's April 17th
00:01:09.340 and this is the Ezra LeVant Show. A funny thing happened over the weekend. Twitter, which has long
00:01:29.340 indicated government affiliations on certain accounts, they were marked that way. Well,
00:01:35.040 they applied that to the CBC and other state broadcasters around the world. Here's an example.
00:01:41.420 I mean, this is the Twitter account of China's foreign affairs spokesman. So you can see it says
00:01:46.540 China government official on it. So it's a government official. Here's a state broadcaster.
00:01:53.320 For example, this is Putin's state broadcaster called RT or Russia Today. You see it says Russia
00:01:59.460 state affiliated media right there on it. Those are not so much warnings as they are
00:02:04.860 disclosures. I mean, just to let you know what you're getting. But for years, Trudeau's CBC
00:02:10.540 state broadcasters did not have a warning label. The CBC would pump out their content and people
00:02:16.680 weren't warned or advised that they were consuming government propaganda like they'd be warned if they
00:02:22.620 were watching RT or Al Jazeera until this weekend. Take a look there. Government funded media.
00:02:31.000 Of course it is. Of course it's government funded media. There is no doubt about that. It is not a
00:02:36.540 matter of opinion. It is a matter of fact. They get a small amount of money from selling ads, but each
00:02:42.480 year they get most of their money, way more than a billion dollars, wrung out of each Canadian by the
00:02:47.580 force of the state through your taxes. You cannot opt out. It's a tax. It's a government broadcaster and
00:02:53.680 they don't really deny it, do they? I mean, here it is literally that same CBC Twitter account
00:02:59.540 saying so themselves a few years ago. Here's a tweet. They were talking to some guy named Mike.
00:03:06.220 Hi, Michael. We are government funded, but that only covers a portion of our expenses.
00:03:10.720 Advertising helps us cover costs across all platforms. So, of course, of course they're
00:03:15.480 government funded. But boy, did having someone else say that make the CBC mad on the weekend when
00:03:21.500 Twitter itself posted it on their platform. They went on a bit of a pout. Here's three tweets in a
00:03:27.580 row they did. Twitter's own policy defines government funded media as cases where the government may have
00:03:33.760 varying degrees of government involvement over editorial content, which is clearly not the case
00:03:38.760 with CBC Radio Canada. Oh, really? Are you sure? First of all, it is a factual fact that they get
00:03:46.380 government money and that's all that's said there. They are a creature of a government statute called the
00:03:51.440 Broadcasting Act and their board is appointed by the government. Where is the dispute here?
00:03:58.120 But to claim that they are not partisan or not partial, what a joke that is. I mean, I just kept
00:04:05.840 laughing when I saw this over the weekend. It was classic. This is the CBC's at issue panel. That's
00:04:12.740 what they call it. They were having a discussion about the Trudeau Foundation. So hosting this,
00:04:17.700 she threw out Rosemary Barton, the CBC fangirl of Trudeau, who literally asked Trudeau for a selfie.
00:04:24.020 And then later she went on a weird platonic date with him, asking him all sorts of odd personal
00:04:31.900 questions. It really was weird.
00:04:34.220 Why do birds suddenly appear? Every time you are near, just like me, they long to be.
00:05:01.580 close to you, close to you, close to you. Why do stars fall down from the sky? Every time you walk by, just like me, they long to be.
00:05:23.580 Close to you, close to you.
00:05:25.580 Close to you.
00:05:27.580 On the day that you were born, the angels got together and decided to create a dream come true.
00:05:38.580 Oh, and I forgot to mention that Rosie Barton, in the final weeks of the 2019 election campaign,
00:05:53.700 she personally, as in her own name, joined the CBC as a corporation in suing the Conservative Party of Canada
00:06:00.580 right before Election Day.
00:06:02.580 So you've got her hosting this neutral and impartial discussion.
00:06:06.580 And then you've got Chantal Ebert, who literally worked for the Trudeau Foundation.
00:06:10.580 And then you've got Andrew Coyne, whose cousin literally sits on the board of the Trudeau Foundation.
00:06:18.580 Now, or maybe she resigned last week, I'm not quite sure.
00:06:22.580 And then, of course, rounding it out, you have Trudeau's authorized biographer and all-around fangirl, Althea Raj,
00:06:30.580 who literally wrote a love story about him and published it as a book.
00:06:34.580 That's the CBC panel.
00:06:36.580 The entire political spectrum from A to B.
00:06:40.580 The entire geographical representation of this country from Toronto to Montreal.
00:06:44.580 The same crew that's been mumbling their establishment talking points for 15 years.
00:06:50.580 All the hair dye in the world will not make that crew seem young or fresh.
00:06:54.580 My God.
00:06:55.580 But imagine calling them independent.
00:06:58.580 Yeah.
00:06:59.580 Who put together that panel?
00:07:02.580 I mean, seriously, was that Gerald Butts who produced it?
00:07:04.580 Anyways, let me keep reading from the CBC rebuttal.
00:07:08.580 They said, CBC Radio Canada is publicly funded through a parliamentary appropriation that is voted upon by all members of parliament.
00:07:15.580 Why don't you just call it tax money?
00:07:17.580 Its editorial independence is protected in law in the Broadcasting Act, as we said in our statement from last week.
00:07:23.580 But that's the opposite of true, isn't it?
00:07:26.580 I mean, the Broadcasting Act explicitly tells the CBC what they have to do and say, what to argue and what to promote.
00:07:34.580 It's right there in the act.
00:07:35.580 The very fact that the editorial decisions are laid out in a parliamentary law proves they're not independent.
00:07:41.580 It's not proof that they are independent.
00:07:44.580 That's such weird gaslighting.
00:07:46.580 And here's the last part of their rant.
00:07:48.580 In addition, our journalism is independent and subject to our journalistic standards and practices, as well as an independent complaints process through CBC ombudsman.
00:07:58.580 Yeah, really?
00:07:59.580 That's the same ombudsman, for example, who took months and months and months to weigh in on this bizarre CBC propaganda.
00:08:06.580 Remember this?
00:08:07.580 I do ask that because, you know, given Canada's support of Ukraine in this current crisis with Russia, I don't know if it's far fetched to ask,
00:08:17.580 but there is concern that Russian actors could be continuing to fuel things as this protest grows, but perhaps even instigating it from the outset.
00:08:28.580 And then he gently criticized it.
00:08:30.580 But that reporter got a raise in a promotion.
00:08:34.580 The CBC has a policy of following Trudeau's policies to the letter.
00:08:38.580 Tell me one issue about which the CBC and Trudeau disagree, from the carbon tax to firearms to open borders immigration to Donald Trump to transgenderism to global warming.
00:08:48.580 There is no difference between the Liberal Party platform and the CBC platform.
00:08:52.580 In fact, the CBC has a bit of party discipline on these matters.
00:08:56.580 For example, as a rule, they never have anyone on their talk shows who is a climate change skeptic.
00:09:01.580 Never. They just don't allow them.
00:09:03.580 They call people like that deniers, which is the exact same language that Trudeau uses.
00:09:07.580 And then there's some good reasons, as Trudeau himself reminds us, why they're so obedient.
00:09:14.580 Here is his joke at a press gallery dinner at which plenty of journalists laughed along with him.
00:09:19.580 Do you remember this?
00:09:20.580 You sometimes hear about liberal bias in the media these days, how they're constantly letting off our government,
00:09:26.580 letting our government off the hook for no good reason.
00:09:29.580 Frankly, I think that's insulting.
00:09:32.580 It's clear that they let us off the hook for a very good reason, because we paid them $600 million.
00:09:39.580 So Trudeau was mad about all this today because he and the CBC are in sync with this.
00:09:46.580 He said that Twitter labeling the CBC government funded was outrageous.
00:09:49.580 And he said that by calling for that label on them, Pierre Pauliev showed that he is hostile to an independent media and reliant on foreign billionaires.
00:09:58.580 Let's take a look.
00:09:59.580 I think it says a lot about the Conservative Party of Canada, that they're choosing to constantly attack independent media organizations,
00:10:09.580 journalists who are working hard to keep Canadians informed and support our democracies.
00:10:15.580 CBC Radio-Canada serves right across the country, delivers local news and local content in many regions of the country.
00:10:30.580 That yes, has been challenged over the past years.
00:10:34.580 But the idea of adding to that challenges and laying on by attacking this Canadian institution,
00:10:43.580 attacking the culture and local content that is so important to so many Canadians,
00:10:49.580 really indicates the values and the approach that Mr. Pauliev is putting forward.
00:10:56.580 And I think it is telling that in order to attack this institution that is important for many, many Canadians,
00:11:05.580 he runs to American billionaires, the tech giants that they continue to defend in committee
00:11:14.580 and in their approach on our legislation to make tech giants pay their fair share.
00:11:21.580 Conservatives are always there to defend them.
00:11:23.580 So when they're trying to attack a foundational Canadian institution,
00:11:27.580 the fact that he has to run to American billionaires for support to attack Canadians,
00:11:34.580 says a lot about Mr. Pauliev and his values.
00:11:38.580 Yeah, the guy who now has four bills in or approaching Parliament, or pending, to censor the internet,
00:11:44.580 is now calling other people violators of journalistic independence.
00:11:47.580 The guy who has twice banned Rebel News from even attending elections debates,
00:11:52.580 who has his bodyguards beat up by reporters, he's the independent journalism guy now?
00:11:57.580 Yeah, no.
00:11:58.580 I mean, the guy who accepted a $200,000 check from a Chinese billionaire
00:12:01.580 and had his own brother, Alexandra, pick up the money.
00:12:03.580 That's the guy accusing others of being in league with foreign billionaires.
00:12:07.580 By the way, about foreign billionaires, the guy who flies to New York
00:12:10.580 to sit submissively at the feet of George Soros.
00:12:13.580 Trudeau, who hired George Soros' official biographer, Chrystia Freeland, as a deputy.
00:12:18.580 That guy is lecturing us about foreign billionaires? Yeah.
00:12:22.580 And of course, who is the media party cheering for today?
00:12:26.580 Elon Musk, the man who says he'll make the internet free again,
00:12:31.580 and who says he'll pay independent journalists? No.
00:12:34.580 They're cheering for Justin Trudeau, the man who says he'll regulate the internet
00:12:38.580 and put the journalists on subsidies.
00:12:40.580 Freedom of speech in this country will get worse if Elon Musk doesn't beat Justin Trudeau.
00:12:48.580 Stay with us for more.
00:12:50.580 Well, if you were to tell me the Canada Revenue Agency was going on strike, I bet most people would cheer that.
00:13:08.580 Of course, tax collectors are a bane on our existence, but I don't think it's a good thing because one of the things they do is give tax refunds as well.
00:13:16.580 And of course, they supposedly answer questions about how to fill out our tax forms every year.
00:13:23.580 But the CRA is just one part of the public service that has decided this is the time to make massive wage demands
00:13:31.580 and threaten the withdrawal of their services if they don't get it.
00:13:34.580 You know, every sign points to a recession, a recession that may last for years.
00:13:39.580 And in fact, the strategy by the Bank of Canada to jack up interest rates is a strategy that will increase unemployment and lead to inflation and unemployment.
00:13:50.580 It's a terrible mix. What a time to demand more money from taxpayers.
00:13:55.580 And Justin Trudeau, I can tell you right now, will say yes.
00:13:58.580 What will the pain be? And are these demands reasonable?
00:14:01.580 Here with the facts is the only guy I trust on this because he's not part of a political party.
00:14:09.580 He takes no money from the government. And his job is to serve taxpayers.
00:14:13.580 It will not surprise you that I'm talking about our friends Franco Teresano of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, who joins me now.
00:14:20.580 Why is Skype? Franco, great to see you again.
00:14:22.580 I have in front of me your latest press release.
00:14:24.580 Taxpayers can't afford PSAC's demands.
00:14:27.580 That stands for the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
00:14:30.580 They want a raise of nine point three billion bucks.
00:14:35.580 Is that right?
00:14:37.580 Over three years, they're pushing for up to forty seven percent compensation increase.
00:14:42.580 And you're right over those three years, that would cost taxpayers nine point three billion dollars.
00:14:47.580 So you ask if it's reasonable. No, it's not reasonable.
00:14:50.580 It's unreasonable. It's unaffordable and it's unsustainable.
00:14:54.580 Folks, just let that sink in for a second.
00:14:56.580 Nine point three billion dollar hit to the taxpayer over three years.
00:14:59.580 Now, I don't know about you, Ezra, but I don't know too many people out there who are could afford this type of hit. Right.
00:15:05.580 How many Canadians right now are at the grocery store wondering if they can afford the package of ground beef or the jug of milk?
00:15:11.580 How many Canadians are out there right now who are worried whether they can afford to fuel up their car with gasoline or how many Canadians out there are worried about losing their homes as mortgage payments go up?
00:15:22.580 And now you have some government union negotiators in Ottawa demanding up to forty seven percent compensation increase over three years for a total cost of nine point three billion dollars.
00:15:33.580 Nine point three billion. It sounds like an enormous amount, but we're used to billions and even the occasional use of the word trillion.
00:15:41.580 But when you break it down to the individual level, that's when it gets shocking.
00:15:44.580 Let me quote from your press release. Compensation for each full time federal employee.
00:15:49.580 Is one hundred and twenty five thousand three hundred dollars on average.
00:15:56.580 When paid pension and other benefits are added up, according to the parliamentary budget officer.
00:16:01.580 A hundred and twenty five grand. And that's before they get their raise.
00:16:08.580 They get their raise. This is the new ruling class. This is the one percentage.
00:16:12.580 I mean, doctors, lawyers, professionals. No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:16:17.580 You're a government bureaucrat. You're making one twenty five a year on average.
00:16:23.580 That's sure. And they want to raise on top of that.
00:16:27.580 The makers versus takers, isn't it? The makers versus takers.
00:16:31.580 And let's not forget what happened over the last couple of years.
00:16:34.580 Right. If you were a private sector taxpayer, you may have lost your job.
00:16:38.580 You may have taken a pay cut. You may have even lost your small business.
00:16:42.580 As we look forward, we talked about how people are really struggling to afford the necessities.
00:16:47.580 How many small businesses are worried about a possible recession that's right around the corner?
00:16:52.580 Well, what happened behind those golden government gates?
00:16:55.580 It's federal government employees. More than three hundred thousand federal bureaucrats received at least one raise during the pandemic.
00:17:02.580 Ezra, that's anywhere from ninety three to ninety eight percent of all federal bureaucrats received at least one raise during the pandemic.
00:17:09.580 Not to mention the feds have dished out more than five hundred million dollars in bonuses during the pandemic years.
00:17:17.580 So you have bureaucrats who are not even worried about missing a raise or a bonus demanding huge compensation increase increases from taxpayers who are worried about missing meals.
00:17:29.580 Yeah. You know, so many people in the private sector where there was restaurant owners or gym owners or retail shops were crushed.
00:17:36.580 And I always said and people were skeptical. I said there are some people who love this pandemic.
00:17:41.580 They're the government class, the lockdown class. Not one of them lost a dime.
00:17:46.580 A lot of them didn't go to work, but they got paid nonetheless.
00:17:49.580 The craziest thing, though, Frank, about your press release, it's this section.
00:17:52.580 Let me just read the top of it. I'd love you to tell our viewers the non wage benefits PSAC has demanded include.
00:18:01.580 And then you've got a list. So the money is, of course, what most people immediately gravitate to.
00:18:06.580 These guys are making one hundred and twenty five grand on average and they want a huge raise.
00:18:11.580 All right. But why don't you take us through some of these cuckoo crazy like nutty as a Snickers bar demands and you know they're going to get them.
00:18:21.580 Take us through some of these crazy non wage benefits.
00:18:25.580 And I think a lot of people in real life don't even have non wage.
00:18:29.580 OK, you got health and dental, maybe. But why don't you list some of these crazy things here they're demanding?
00:18:34.580 So in the real world, if in the real world you were to ask your boss for some of these non wage benefits that I'm about to list for you, you'd get laughed out of the office.
00:18:43.580 These are so crazy. One of them is bureaucrats want more money if they work past 4 p.m.
00:18:49.580 And this is for program and administrative services who in the office job isn't working past 4 p.m.
00:18:56.580 And these federal bureaucrats want more money to work past 4 p.m.
00:19:00.580 Here's another one. These government union negotiators are pushing for an education fund for laid off employees of up to seventeen thousand dollars.
00:19:09.580 OK, let me list a few more. They want paid time off of two weeks or of seventy five hours.
00:19:16.580 Sorry, annually. They want accrual of four weeks vacation after only four years of service.
00:19:23.580 They want overtime paid at double time. And as we can dive into this, but this is the craziest one of them all.
00:19:28.580 They want taxpayer funded contribution into a union controlled social justice fund which engages in, quote, advocacy for progressive public policy.
00:19:40.580 Now, Ezra, Canadians have a right to advocate for what they believe in, but you don't use government negotiations to take taxpayers money so that you can fund your advocacy.
00:19:51.580 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And that's basically code word for an NDP super PAC.
00:19:57.580 You know, I there's a moral hazard whenever a government union negotiates with a government in that neither are using their own money.
00:20:05.580 I mean, you know, in a private sector situation or in any any other real life negotiation, you're buying and selling a house, let's say both sides.
00:20:15.580 It's their it's their own skin in the game here. There's the moral hazard.
00:20:20.580 I'm using that word again in that. Why would Justin Trudeau say no if he says no?
00:20:25.580 Maybe they're going to strike. Maybe they're going to leak documents on them.
00:20:29.580 Maybe they're going to make a fuss. This is his base other than the media.
00:20:33.580 I can think of no other part of the society that is more Justin Trudeau's people than this.
00:20:38.580 So, of course, he's got every temptation just to say yes, sign the check.
00:20:43.580 And these are his allies. These are the people who came out against the truckers in Ottawa.
00:20:48.580 These are the people who, of course, they got bonuses and of course they are in favor of lockdowns.
00:20:54.580 I don't know. I'm I think he's going to give this to him while the rest of the country goes into recession.
00:20:58.580 What do you think? Is there any is there any chance, any sign of any backbone to stand up to this?
00:21:04.580 Well, let's make no let's make no mistake about it.
00:21:08.580 The reason that these government union negotiators even feel that they can go push for up to forty seven percent compensation increases over three years, which would cost taxpayers nine point three billion dollars.
00:21:19.580 The only reason they even think they can make those demands is because of how crazy this government has been spending year after year after year after year.
00:21:28.580 If this government wasn't spending so crazy like this, these government union negotiators know they wouldn't be able to push for these demands because they'd be let laughed out of the office.
00:21:38.580 Right. But the government has been spending like crazy. Now, here's another important problem is that where is the pushback from the opposition?
00:21:45.580 Yeah. Which party out there is pushing back on this?
00:21:50.580 Yeah. Maybe I missed a press conference. I don't know. I get paid to watch this kind of stuff.
00:21:54.580 Maybe I was sleeping on the job, but I haven't seen a single member of parliament from a single party publicly come out against these government union negotiating demands.
00:22:05.580 I mean, of course, Jagmeet Singh, he's he would love the public sector union.
00:22:10.580 So he'd probably say to Trudeau, I insist you do this as part of my coalition agreement.
00:22:14.580 But you're right. I have not heard the Conservative Party talk about this and maybe they don't want to pick a fight with the unions.
00:22:20.580 But look, either you're for the taxpayer or you're not. And it's not like these are, you know, there are certain labor unions in the private sector, working class, blue collar jobs where a union makes some sense.
00:22:32.580 But to have a public sector union average income, one hundred and twenty five grand saying we don't want to work after four p.m., we want a left wing super PAC.
00:22:42.580 We if the Conservatives can't take a stand against that, I'm worried about that.
00:22:47.580 And I'm glad, as always, you point that out, because that's one of the things I love about the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
00:22:52.580 They are nonpartisan. So they're never going to give a free ride to the Conservatives. Very important.
00:22:57.580 Last word to you. Is this a done deal or do you think there's a chance this will be rolled back?
00:23:02.580 Well, you know, I don't have a crystal ball, but that's why it's so important right now for all your viewers to really send a letter, send an email, send a phone call to your member of parliament and tell them to push back.
00:23:12.580 You know, that social justice fund, they've used the fund to send their members to climate conferences in Madrid, in Cancun.
00:23:19.580 They've even used it to advocate for higher business taxes. It's completely unacceptable.
00:23:23.580 And this could cost us billions and billions of dollars over a couple of years.
00:23:27.580 Well, you always bring bad news, Franco, but we have to hear it. And so I'm glad you do.
00:23:33.580 And you bring it with a smile because you've got that happy warrior spirit, which we love to see.
00:23:37.580 It's why we love the Taxpayers Federation. Folks, you can see all their stuff at taxpayer.com.
00:23:43.580 Love their website, taxpayer.com. Franco, great to see you. Keep in touch.
00:23:47.580 Thanks for having me on. All right. Our pleasure. Stay with us. More ahead.
00:23:51.580 Hey, welcome back. Your viewer feedback. Joe says, Ezra, this interview impacted me a lot.
00:24:09.580 Xi Van Fleet is possibly giving us the biggest warning of the global threat of communist China, the biggest global threat out there.
00:24:15.580 She's absolutely correct. And I'm so glad you tracked her down and talked to her.
00:24:19.580 Many people have exposed communist China, but she is one who was there.
00:24:22.580 Yes. And I don't know if you're on Twitter, but I highly recommend her Twitter feed.
00:24:27.580 She juxtaposes things she saw or heard of in China during the Cultural Revolution with things that are happening now.
00:24:35.580 For example, the smashing of old language, the renaming of old streets, children lecturing teachers, like the inversion of things is very powerful.
00:24:47.580 So I really encourage you, if you're on Twitter, to follow Xi Van Fleet, Xi Van Fleet.
00:24:53.580 KM 002 says, I'm surprised parents were not aware of their kids' school content until the pandemic.
00:24:58.580 Don't kids talk to their parents about what they're learning in school?
00:25:02.580 Well, what do you learn in school today? Nothing.
00:25:06.580 And do you think you're going to get a recitation of the kind of propaganda tactics from class?
00:25:12.580 Schools are the worst battleground out there.
00:25:16.580 Greg Christopher says the Clinton Foundation set the gold standard for peddling influence at the highest levels.
00:25:21.580 This is a feeble copy of that swamp and all NGOs and charities that dabble in politics are now suspect.
00:25:26.580 Yeah, well, I mean, that's how Trudeau regards everything.
00:25:29.580 A slush fund for him, his family and his party.
00:25:31.580 I mean, that's how he treated Katimovic when it was on his board.
00:25:35.580 That's how he treated the Trudeau Foundation.
00:25:37.580 That's how he treated the WE charities for him and his family.
00:25:40.580 I mean, he really has lived his entire life where people give him things for free.
00:25:46.580 I think he probably thinks that's normal and how people live.
00:25:51.580 Remember that clip I played for you the other day of him saying to kids,
00:25:53.580 Hey kids, go ahead and put your college debt on a credit card with 24% interest.
00:25:59.580 He said that because I think that's how he thinks money works.
00:26:03.580 I don't think he has ever paid a bill in his life.
00:26:06.580 And I mean in his life, obviously not as a child.
00:26:09.580 And then he had his father's trust fund set up for him with accountants and lawyers.
00:26:14.580 I actually don't think he has ever paid a bill in his life.
00:26:18.580 And I doubt he's picked up the tab for a dinner either.
00:26:21.580 Just incredible.
00:26:22.580 That's our show for today.
00:26:23.580 Until tomorrow, on behalf of all of us here at Rebel World Headquarters,
00:26:26.580 to you at home, good night and keep fighting for freedom.
00:26:29.580 Thank you for being here.
00:26:32.580 Please stay busy and keep fighting for freedom.
00:26:35.580 Thank you for staying here.
