EZRA LEVANT | Suddenly 'dirty oil' is 'Canadian energy' as Trudeau targets Alberta in U.S. tariff war

Summary

Trudeaude Trudeau and the rest of the premiers want to make Alberta the 51st state, and they have a plan to do so. I'll show you the details of it, and explain why it's a terrible idea.

00:00:00.080 Hello, my friends. It's really quite disheartening, but not only Justin Trudeau, who you'd expect,
00:00:05.820 and Melanie Julie, who you'd expect, but most of the rest of the provincial premiers have
00:00:10.140 declared war on Alberta by saying Alberta's industry should be shut down by Canada in
00:00:17.180 our fight with Donald Trump's terror. So Donald Trump isn't going to shut down the Alberta
00:00:22.000 oil sense, but Trudeau and the other premiers want to do that. How disheartening. You want
00:00:28.520 a national unity crisis. You want to drive Alberta to become the 51st state. I couldn't
00:00:34.580 think of a better plan. It's so gross. I'll take you through it and show you some videotape.
00:00:39.440 Ideally, you could watch this whole thing on video because I want to show you some clips
00:00:43.200 of Trudeau and Stephen Harper and Pierre Polyev and Melanie Julie. I want you to see it, not

00:01:55.460 Tonight, suddenly dirty Alberta oil has become Canadian energy as Trudeau tries to make Alberta
00:02:02.360 the sacrifice industry in his tariff war with America. It's January 16th and this is The Andrew LeVant Show.
00:02:09.020 He's ready for freedom! Shame on you, you censorious bug!
00:02:24.080 Oh, hi everybody. I sneaked out to the United Kingdom last night, but I didn't miss a beat. I'm back
00:02:30.020 already. I'm going to show you a video from there a little bit later and hopefully I'll have some big
00:02:36.440 news in a few days. But I came right back immediately. There's so much going on in Canada.
00:02:42.020 I don't want to miss a moment. And by the way, it feels like things are in total disarray.
00:02:46.640 The kind of calamity, the walking joke of the Liberal government is no longer an internal problem
00:02:53.560 that their MPs are worried about. It really is affecting Canada completely in one of the most grave
00:02:59.660 economic risks to our country. I'm talking about Donald Trump's promise to put tariffs on Canada
00:03:05.780 if we don't do what he said on our border. And I want to remind you what Trump asked for exactly.
00:03:13.260 I want to read it for you. The original post that he made on his own social media platform called
00:03:18.340 Truth Social. Let me read it for you. Because it's almost as if the political madness in Canada
00:03:24.840 has forgotten what Trump has asked for. Let me just read it. It's so easy to do, I would think.
00:03:31.160 Mexico seems to have done it. Here, I'll just read it for me. As everyone is aware, thousands of people
00:03:37.620 are pouring through Mexico and Canada, bringing crime and drugs at levels never seen before.
00:03:43.120 Right now, a caravan coming from Mexico composed of thousands of people seems to be unstoppable in
00:03:48.800 its quest to come through our currently open border. On January 20th, as one of my many
00:03:54.840 first executive orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25%
00:04:01.160 tariff on all products coming into the United States and its ridiculous open borders. This
00:04:06.960 tariff will remain in effect until such time as drugs, in particular fentanyl, and all illegal aliens
00:04:12.800 stop this invasion of our country. Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily
00:04:19.100 solve this long-simmering problem. We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that
00:04:24.300 they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price. All right, of course, it's got that Trump
00:04:30.020 flair and that Trump threat, some bellicosity. It is a demand, but the or else is the tariffs. Tariffs
00:04:38.040 aren't the demand. Tariffs are not the goal. It's not the purpose. It's not the rationale. They're what
00:04:44.180 Trump is threatening to do if Canada and Mexico disagree with them. And yet, for some reason,
00:04:49.460 and I think I know the reason, Trudeau and his cabinet and most of the provinces have decided
00:04:54.940 to pretty much ignore the actual demand because they're so excited about the or else because they
00:05:01.460 actually, as perverse as it sounds, want to fight a trade war with Trump. And it's sort of obvious why
00:05:07.320 Trump is unpopular in Canada for various reasons, including being universally condemned by the regime
00:05:14.260 media. And so Trudeau and his cabinet and his two potential successors, Christopher Hill and Mark
00:05:20.280 Carney, and most of the provincial premiers are really excited about having a new boogeyman to run
00:05:26.320 against, an external threat that we can demonize, someone else to blame for the bad economy.
00:05:33.280 Everyone is acting this way except for Alberta. Premier Danielle Smith has been going down to the U.S.
00:05:38.580 again and again, not just demonstrating that she is way ahead of the game in terms of border
00:05:43.160 security at the Alberta-Montana border, but to demonstrate to America that Canada is not
00:05:47.800 hostile to America and America depends on Canadian oil. She's being friendly and constructive.
00:05:54.200 As you may remember, and we interviewed her when she announced this, there are new drones and police
00:05:59.320 patrols, real things on the Alberta border. She's doing the job that Justin Trudeau won't.
00:06:05.940 But the rest of the country is practicing acting all butch. I mean, here's Melanie Jolie talking about
00:06:12.960 an energy embargo. Everything's on the table. I think that's code for she has no clue. But look
00:06:18.540 at how tough she sounds. Is your government prepared to cut off supplies of energy, for example, to the
00:06:25.480 United States? What I can tell you is everything is on the table. So Melanie Jolie is tougher on Donald
00:06:33.000 Trump than she is on Hamas. Just think about that for a moment. I'm not just blaming liberals. Here's
00:06:39.420 Doug Ford, the alleged conservative, sounding really tough, like he actually wants a battle.
00:06:45.140 We also need to learn more about where the government's retaliatory tariffs. I'm a strong
00:06:52.940 believer in retaliatory tariffs. You can't let someone hit you over the head with a sledgehammer
00:06:57.940 without hitting him back twice as hard, in my opinion. We're also eager to learn more about
00:07:04.600 other considerations that we can hit back beyond the tariffs. And lastly, we need to hear from
00:07:10.960 the federal government about how quickly and effectively the support comes to workers and
00:07:16.960 businesses through the tariffs that we receive. It's absolutely critical. We get it out to the
00:07:26.220 people as quickly as possible. If we use every tool, Canada has a lot of leverage, as you were
00:07:32.740 saying, prime minister. And again, we'll be dealing through strength, not weakness.
00:07:38.840 Doug Ford sounds like he wants a battle because he wants a battle. Did I tell you I had a Doug Ford
00:07:43.080 door-knocking team at my house on the weekend? They're going to the polls on this. They won an
00:07:49.480 election. They love the drama. So Doug Ford is not running against the liberals. He's running to save
00:07:55.940 Ontario and save all of team Canada from the evil Donald Trump. Of course, he loves the fight.
00:08:01.280 Now, 25% tariffs. You know what a tariff is. America would charge basically an import tax and
00:08:08.420 it would be paid by American customers. So the money doesn't go to Canada. The money is collected
00:08:13.160 on the goods that go into Canada. So what are these Canadian exports? We have a huge trade with
00:08:18.740 the United States. But what is it? Well, here it is. It's about a half a trillion dollars a year.
00:08:24.580 Oil and gas, by far, the number one export to the United States. $128 billion worth last year.
00:08:34.360 Cars are a substantial second place, $58 billion, but not even half as much. Other machinery is $33
00:08:41.080 billion. And then commodities, plastics, metals, and then the rest are very small by comparison.
00:08:46.360 So really, the exports are oil and gas. That's what America needs. And here's the crazy part.
00:08:53.520 Alberta is very much at risk from this, as is Ontario. Trump has publicly said he would like
00:08:58.960 to bring those automobile factories from Ontario and take them to Detroit and J.D. Vance's home
00:09:06.140 state of Ohio. There's no electoral college votes in Ontario, is there?
00:09:09.480 But why are we supporting a country, $200 billion plus a year? Our military is at their disposal.
00:09:19.380 All of these other things, they should be a state. That's why I told Trudeau when he came down,
00:09:23.980 I said, what would happen if we didn't do it? He said Canada would dissolve. Canada wouldn't be
00:09:29.340 able to function if we didn't take their 20% of our car market. You know, we, again,
00:09:34.460 they send us hundreds of thousands of cars. They make a lot of money with that. They send us a lot
00:09:40.360 of other things that we don't need. We don't need their cars. We don't need the other products. We
00:09:43.860 don't need their milk. We got a lot of milk. We got a lot of everything. And we don't need any of it.
00:09:50.420 So I said to him, well, why are we doing it? He said, I don't really know. He was unable to answer
00:09:55.240 the question, but I can answer it. We're doing it because of habit. And we're doing it because we like
00:10:00.560 our neighbors and we've been good neighbors, but we can't do it forever. And it's a tremendous
00:10:05.720 amount of money. And why should we have a $200 billion deficit and add onto that many, many
00:10:12.800 other things that we give them in terms of subsidy. And I said, that's okay to have if you're a state,
00:10:18.880 but if you're another country, we don't want to have it. We're not going to have it with European
00:10:22.320 Union either. And there's no reason other than inertia for Trump to allow the factories to
00:10:28.940 continue in Windsor. But you can't do that with oil. You can't just up and move the oil sands
00:10:35.400 to the United States. Like you can up and move a factory to the United States. The oil sands can't
00:10:41.440 move. And there's such a large source of oil. The U.S. could not find an alternative to it in any
00:10:46.940 meaningful way, certainly not within a number of years. And there are some U.S. refineries that are
00:10:52.720 only connected to Canadian oil pipelines and only can handle Canadian grades of oil. Of course,
00:10:59.340 that could change, but it would take years. And of course, the alternative, at least, again,
00:11:04.800 for the next few years, if Trump ramps up U.S. production, which he probably will,
00:11:09.020 the alternative to Canadian oil would be OPEC conflict oil or Russian conflict oil.
00:11:14.360 So it's probably not going to happen that Trump's actually going to slap tariffs on oil.
00:11:21.240 And by the way, there's smiling, friendly Danielle Smith down in Washington and down at Mar-a-Lago
00:11:26.600 trying to make sure it doesn't happen. She's advocating for her province, but she's not
00:11:33.200 threatening any other province. And of course, the, you know, what's that? 11-digit sale of oil to
00:11:41.320 America every year is a huge benefit for all of Canada. But the others are trying to throw
00:11:48.540 Alberta under the bus. Suddenly, dirty oil sands oil is now Canadian energy that Melanie Jolie and
00:11:56.480 Justin Trudeau can use as a weapon. And suddenly, the only thing the other premiers can think of
00:12:02.060 is, get this, putting a tariff on Canadian exporters ourselves, or just banning Canadian
00:12:10.420 exports altogether. As in not fixing our border to stop drugs and migrants, which is what Trump
00:12:17.240 asked for in the first place. Not even fighting tariffs with tariffs on U.S. goods coming into
00:12:22.980 Canada, but shutting down the oil sands in Canada. Donald Trump has never threatened to do that.
00:12:29.640 The worst he said is he'll put a tariff on them, which would be a terrible thing. But only our
00:12:35.260 fellow Canadians are saying, let us shut down the oil sands. Trump has not threatened that.
00:12:41.580 That threat has come from inside the house. Could you imagine if Daniel Smith had gone down to
00:12:45.780 Washington and told Donald Trump, smash the auto industry in Windsor and other remaining Canadian
00:12:51.380 car factory locations? Or in some ways worse, was telling Doug Ford that Doug Ford had to unilaterally
00:12:58.700 bear the brunt of this by shutting down his own auto industry to punish America. By the way,
00:13:04.080 it would be just as illegal for Doug Ford to shut down the auto industry in Windsor as it would be
00:13:10.000 to shut down the oil industry in Alberta. And in both cases, the companies are actually American. Do you
00:13:14.780 think Ford isn't American? Do you think Imperial Oil isn't American? So it's all crazy talk.
00:13:21.060 And remember, America can buy cars from other countries too, or from itself. That would actually
00:13:28.760 get Trump's attention if we stopped the export of Canadian cars to punish America, because in some
00:13:38.600 ways, America would love it, build some factories there. But of course, Donald Trump would come to
00:13:42.500 the aid of Ford, GM, etc. But the chutzpah, the gall, the outrageousness of everyone else in the country
00:13:50.680 offering up Alberta's oil industry as a scapegoat.
00:13:53.880 Every single premier other than Daniel Smith then chose to put Canada first and say, but we're all part
00:14:03.500 of Team Canada because what happens to any part of us happens to all of us. And we will be there to
00:14:09.440 respond strongly, to fight for Canada, and to do it in a united way that makes sure that it's fair
00:14:16.700 across all industries, across all regions. That was what we came together yesterday to do.
00:14:22.860 A sacrifice zone. It's beyond the pale. For decades, it's always been Alberta's dirty oil
00:14:28.340 that had to be stopped. Quebec didn't want that dirty oil traveling through a pipeline across its
00:14:33.760 sacred land. Now, suddenly, that oil is national property, despite that the Constitution says
00:14:39.360 it's a provincial jurisdiction. And that oil is needed as a sacrifice to save Ontario's auto
00:14:45.260 industry and whether ever other trinkets they sell to America by comparison. It's very frustrating to
00:14:51.960 see this. Now, Stephen Harper recorded a podcast the other day, and he referred to this. He referred
00:14:58.000 to the quirk of how we're selling oil to America because of Trudeau and his anti-oil friends, like his
00:15:04.540 best friend, Gerald Butts, who used to run the World Wildlife Fund in Canada. Canada is stuck selling
00:15:09.860 almost 100% of our oil to the United States because we didn't build pipelines to the open seas.
00:15:17.300 We didn't build Energy East, which would have taken oil sands oiled to New Brunswick to be refined there.
00:15:22.700 The largest refinery in Canada is in New Brunswick, and then shipped, I don't know, to Europe or wherever.
00:15:27.400 That was blocked by Trudeau, the Northern Gateway Pipeline, which would have taken oil to the West
00:15:33.700 Coast. So we really have one buyer. I don't know if you've heard the word, that's called a monopsony.
00:15:39.500 When there's one buyer and a bunch of sellers, it means you're going to have a lower than world
00:15:43.760 market price. That's the opposite of a monopoly, where you have one seller and a bunch of buyers,
00:15:49.000 where you pay more than world price. That is because Justin Trudeau blocked the pipelines,
00:15:53.960 blocked the tankers. And he had the gall to tell Germany and Japan just a year or two ago that
00:15:59.900 there's no business case to sell natural gas to them either. What a malicious idiot. Here's Harper
00:16:07.220 talking about that. Our country has an unparalleled comparative advantage in its resource base.
00:16:16.300 And we are, you know, we have energy-critical minerals, resources of all kinds. We have
00:16:23.960 probably the largest overall resource base of any country in the world, even greater than Russia
00:16:31.880 in terms of its diversity. Well, at the same time, being a rule of law, stable jurisdiction,
00:16:42.900 far removed from conflict zones. So this is a tremendous advantage of the country. Mr. Trudeau has
00:16:48.160 denied that as an advantage and in fact gone out of his way to put impediments in front of the
00:16:54.560 development of our resource industries, our mining, but especially energy. His goal has been to shut
00:17:00.640 down the oil and gas industry. He's actually been quite plain about this. So Pierre is going to reverse
00:17:06.800 those things. Canada will be back in the resources business in a big way, which is a great opportunity
00:17:13.820 for us because, well, you know, most Western countries have combinations of slow growth,
00:17:19.340 debt, inflation, bad demographics. We have the easiest exit from that because we have this
00:17:27.180 tremendous resource base that we can, and products we can sell not only in the United States, but to
00:17:32.100 growing emerging economies around the world. So that's the first thing he's going to liberate that
00:17:35.600 section of the economy. And the other thing he's going to do is start pursuing a, start reversing the
00:17:40.940 high tax agenda of the Canada. It is true that Canada presently has a modest trade surplus with
00:17:47.500 the United States. The reason Gabe, we do is because you buy so much of our oil and gas.
00:17:54.220 In fact, you buy it at a discount to world markets. It's actually Canada that subsidizes the United States
00:18:00.220 in this regard. And, um, you know, so maybe, maybe my response is maybe Canadians, if Mr. Trump feels this
00:18:08.780 way, should be looking at selling their oil and gas to other people. Um, we, uh, we certainly want,
00:18:14.540 have always wanted to do some of that. Maybe that was the time to do it. And Pierre Polly have said
00:18:18.740 something similar the other day, that the real long-term answer to this threat by Donald Trump
00:18:24.020 is to diversify where we sell our oil to. And so God forbid, if Trump actually did put tariffs
00:18:31.420 on Canadian oil, well, maybe we could sell it to India or South Korea or Japan or anyone. Here's
00:18:37.580 Pierre Polly saying that same thing. I think that the first thing that President Trump should do
00:18:43.260 when he gets into the Oval Office is to send a big bouquet of flowers to the liberal government
00:18:50.860 in Ottawa by blocking pipelines and LNG plants in Canada. The liberals have forced Canadians to sell
00:19:01.340 almost all of our energy to the United States, giving President Trump massive leverage in making
00:19:09.420 these tariff threats. Had they allowed the Energy East and Northern Gateway pipelines to go ahead,
00:19:16.940 had they rapidly approved LNG plants to sell the natural gas that Japan, Greece, Germany, and other
00:19:24.700 countries were looking for us to sell them directly, we wouldn't have to give a hundred percent,
00:19:30.380 almost a hundred percent of our hydrocarbons to the Americans at discount prices, and you wouldn't
00:19:36.380 have had to ask me that question. Because I would have answered in that scenario, I would have answered
00:19:41.420 we'll go around the Americans, we'll sell our energy directly. But that's something that the liberals
00:19:46.780 would not let us do. Freeland supported killing the Energy East pipeline, which would have moved a
00:19:53.900 million barrels of Western oil to the St. John refinery and off to Europe, by the way, which would have
00:19:59.740 helped defund Putin. Carney testified in the Industry Committee that he was against the Northern Gateway
00:20:07.020 pipeline to take Canadian oil to Asia without going through the United States, by the way, while his
00:20:13.020 company buys pipelines in the Middle East and in Brazil. How unpatriotic is that? So, frankly, the liberals have got us in this mess
00:20:23.740 by making us beholden to the Americans and giving them, the Americans, our energy at massive price discounts,
00:20:31.020 selling our oil for $15, typically below the market rate, and selling them natural gas for $4 per million metric British thermal units,
00:20:41.820 when they're going for $13 in Europe. That is economic sadomasochism. And I will put an end
00:20:49.100 to it. When I'm Prime Minister, we will repeal the anti-energy law, C-69. We will rapidly approve LNG plants
00:20:57.100 and any other private sector unsubsidized investments to expand our ability to sell our energy without going through
00:21:05.180 the Americans. And I will unite our people. We see right now that not only have the liberals weakened
00:21:11.740 our economy, now they're resorting to dividing our people. Divide and conquer. Right when the president
00:21:19.180 is threatening us with tariffs, what is the first thing the Liberal Party of Freeland and Carney think to do?
00:21:25.340 Divide Canadians. Divide our provinces. We don't need to be divided. We need to be united. All provinces.
00:21:32.860 All Canadians. Let's put Canada first. Thank you. But now we have a real split, don't we? We have the
00:21:38.940 provinces who want Trump as a foil, a bogeyman, and who want, you know, they would rather have a
00:21:45.900 trade war in which they could play the hero and fight bravely against Trump rather than just fixing
00:21:51.580 the border. That's what started this whole thing. Trump said, hey, can you fix the border? And they want
00:21:56.460 Alberta to be the sacrifice zone. Danielle Smith has said that that will cause a unity crisis. Well, of course it
00:22:02.300 will. Here's Trudeau throwing Alberta under the bus to fight for Canada, he says, except,
00:22:07.980 of course, he won't fight for Alberta. Take a look. I would actually like to point out
00:22:12.700 to Danielle Smith that Canadians know the importance of standing up for each other.
00:22:18.700 That's why Canadian taxpayers bought the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion,
00:22:24.460 TMX to be able to get Albertan oil to new markets. That was an investment that all Canadians made that
00:22:33.660 the Alberta government is making billions of dollars off of because in what was a very difficult decision,
00:22:41.340 the federal government, we made the decision to purchase and build and complete that pipeline.
00:22:48.860 That's an example of all Canadians standing up for Alberta and getting it done.
00:22:54.940 So yes, premiers should be advocating for their own industries, their own country, their own communities,
00:23:02.060 but they should also put their country first as every single premier except Danielle Smith did.
00:23:10.700 I could point to any number of those premiers and point out lots of moments in which they have points
00:23:17.340 of disagreement with me, from Doug Ford to Scott Moe to Tim Houston to even David Eby and Wob Canu and others.
00:23:26.700 There's all sorts of disagreements we're going to have. But when push comes to shove,
00:23:31.980 every single one of them are Canadians first. And yes, they're going to look out for their communities,
00:23:36.860 but they also know that looking out for all of us is what everyone in their communities expect us to do.
00:23:44.700 And on top of that, I think it's very clear that right now, Pierre Polyev,
00:23:49.900 who wants to be prime minister for all Canadians, has a choice to make.
00:23:54.460 Either he stands up to fight for all Canadians alongside
00:23:58.300 all premiers and the federal government that are doing that,
00:24:01.660 or he chooses to stand with Danielle Smith, Kevin O'Leary, and ultimately Donald Trump.
00:24:08.140 The chutzpah of killing the Trans Mountain pipeline, that was a privately funded pipeline that Trudeau then
00:24:14.940 killed. And then he bought it and overpaid by billions to get it bailed out. It was perhaps the
00:24:22.140 stupidest decision made with taxpayers money in the history of the country. Hey, Alberta, you should be
00:24:27.660 grateful to Trudeau for building your pipeline with government money that he canceled when it was being
00:24:33.180 done by a private company. You should be grateful. And because of that, you should let Trudeau shut down
00:24:38.140 oil and gas. I mean, I tell you, I keep joking with my American friends when they talk about acquiring
00:24:43.660 Canada. I said, guys, you probably wouldn't really want Canada as a 51st state. It would be like another
00:24:49.500 California in the electoral college sense, going Democrat almost every time. I mean, good luck ever
00:24:55.580 re-electing a Republican. Do they really want Quebec with its linguistic demands? I mean, get ready for
00:25:01.020 bilingualism. Do they really want the demands of equalization from the poorer provinces? But, but,
00:25:09.340 would they want Alberta? Well, you bet they would. The most right-wing province, the province with 170
00:25:17.420 billion barrels of oil, third only to Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. The province with lots of Americans
00:25:25.500 living there now, the engine of equalization for the whole country, it's probably the most American
00:25:30.780 of the provinces. You bet they would take Alberta. Do they really want Prince Edward Island? No,
00:25:34.860 but I see the premier of Prince Edward Island is happy to throw Alberta under the bus. I think Donald
00:25:39.260 Trump was kidding about the 51st state. I think he saw it got under Justin Trudeau's skin,
00:25:44.060 so he kept saying it. But the anti-Alberta strategy taken by Trudeau, Jolie, Doug Ford,
00:25:51.420 wouldn't that be something if it actually created a separation crisis? If it actually made the 51st
00:25:59.180 state more likely? Not the whole country, but just Alberta. Let me rephrase that though. Danielle
00:26:06.220 Smith isn't a force for disunity. They're calling her every name in the book, but she's not betraying the
00:26:11.900 country by going to bat for her province at the expense of others. She's doing Trudeau's job
00:26:18.700 because he's too busy going on left-wing talk shows like Stephen Colbert or MSNBC. Danielle Smith is
00:26:24.700 doing what Trudeau won't do, what Melanie Jolie is too stupid to do. She's trying to paper over this
00:26:30.540 diplomatic hiccup. And if she succeeds, she saves Canada's biggest export, which happens to save her
00:26:37.420 province. And maybe she'll succeed at more than that. She is the force to stop disunity because
00:26:44.460 if she fails, well, if she fails, Alberta, if it's turned into a sacrifice zone by Trudeau and
00:26:51.420 the other premiers especially, well, Alberta might just then decide to become the 51st state. You know,
00:26:59.180 our Supreme Court of Canada ruled that it is legal to separate. In the United States,
00:27:05.260 they had a whole civil war over it. It's not legal there. It's legal here. Do you doubt
00:27:10.220 that if the province, one by one, the premiers of the provinces said they were going to shut down
00:27:15.740 the oil patch, that that would cause Albertans to say, we're out of here? Here's what Danielle
00:27:19.260 Smith tweeted just a few hours ago. She said, how about this for building a Team Canada approach?
00:27:25.420 Number one, stop threatening the livelihoods of tens of thousands of Albertans and Canadians
00:27:30.380 via an energy export tax or ban. Two, immediately start construction on the Northern Gateway and
00:27:36.700 Energy East pipelines to diversity, diversify our customer base to Europe, Asia, and our own country.
00:27:43.340 Three, tell Germany, Japan, and the rest of the world that there is in fact a business case for
00:27:48.060 Canadian oil and gas to be sold to them. Number four, repeal the unconstitutional and job-killing
00:27:53.660 production cap, electricity regs, and C-69. That's an anti-tanker law, if I recall.
00:28:00.860 Five, treat with respect and as an equal partner, the Alberta taxpayers that have been transferring
00:28:06.220 hundreds of billions to Quebec, the Maritimes, and even Ontario for decades. Let's start there on
00:28:12.140 building our Team Canada approach, shall we? She's so right. And you know what? That's positive.
00:28:17.740 That's a national approach, building the economy. Energy East, again, that's the pipeline that will,
00:28:23.020 from Alberta to New Brunswick. Jobs all along the way. And it would fill the largest refinery in
00:28:27.900 Canada, which right now takes OPEC oil. Can you believe it? It would build the economy. It would
00:28:32.540 build solutions here. It would deal with Trump productively by fixing border issues, but make
00:28:39.020 sure that Canada has other options. I like that plan. Everyone should, but Trudeau would rather burn
00:28:45.820 the entire house down to save face and have the last laugh at us, wouldn't he? By the way,
00:28:53.340 I'll be in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, and I've scheduled an interview with Danielle Smith. I'll be
00:28:59.020 sure to let you know when we have that published, and it'll be fascinating to see what happens in the
00:29:03.980 next few days. Stay with us. After the short break, a video I filmed while I was in the UK
00:29:10.700 last night for a few hours. That's next.
00:29:18.540 Hey guys, literally today I got an email from our cruise ship company. We are almost sold out. I don't
00:29:25.020 know if you know this, but every year Rebel News has a cruise. This year we're sailing out of Vancouver,
00:29:29.900 going up to Alaska. It's fun, you bet, but it's actually a fundraiser to keep Rebel News strong.
00:29:36.220 That's it from my point of view, but from your point of view, holy cow, most of our Rebel talent
00:29:42.060 will be on the ship, from David Menzies to Drea Humphrey to Alexa Lavoie and Sheila Gunn-Reed,
00:29:47.740 plus other special guests like Tamara Leach. You don't want to miss it, and I just got the email today
00:29:53.260 from the cruise company. We are almost sold out, so don't delay. The cruise is in June of 2025.
00:29:59.340 Go to rebelnewscruise.com. Come and have a great week vacation, and know that it's supporting
00:30:06.780 Rebel News as our fundraiser. Rebelnewscruise.com.
00:30:14.300 Have you heard about Tommy Robinson? Do you know who I'm talking about?
00:30:16.540 Yeah, Tommy Robinson. Yeah, he's like a crypto sort of fascist guy.
00:30:19.580 Yeah, he did something against the law, so that's why he's in jail.
00:30:23.100 It's not long enough for him. He should have been jailed for longer.
00:30:25.580 He's a racist.
00:30:27.980 And should we jail people who are racist?
00:30:30.060 Yeah, if they're racist, yeah, it's illegal.
00:30:32.140 You know exactly the sort of things he hates. I'm not even going to give him the airtime,
00:30:35.420 or I'm not even going to start to list his targets, because it buys into his agenda.
00:30:41.580 I'm not trying to fight with you, I'm just trying to...
00:30:43.180 You know what I say to him and all people like him?
00:30:45.180 It's when people stop wanting to come to this country, we are really in trouble.
00:30:49.020 Should he be jailed for it?
00:30:50.060 Yeah, if he's been told off, if he's been given enough warnings.
00:30:55.100 I mean, Britain has got pretty good for free speech, if you take it on a global,
00:31:01.740 global looking at the different countries. I think we're up near the top.
00:31:06.060 I think we're up near the top of the country.
00:31:08.940 We're up near the top of the country.
00:31:09.420 Hi, it's Ezra Levant here in London, England, in Leicester Square.
00:31:12.780 I'm actually in the UK on a secret mission, but while I was here,
00:31:15.820 I thought I would go out onto the street and talk to ordinary Brits and ask them,
00:31:20.780 have you heard of Tommy Robinson? Have you heard about him being put in jail
00:31:25.020 over publishing a video that a judge told him not to do?
00:31:28.460 What's the state of freedom of speech in the UK?
00:31:30.940 Are you allowed to talk about things like immigration and grooming gangs?
00:31:35.340 Well, we talked to passers-by, and here's what they had to say.
00:31:38.780 Have you guys heard of Tommy Robinson?
00:31:40.220 No, I haven't.
00:31:42.140 What do you think of Tommy Robinson?
00:31:44.540 Not much. Personally, I don't have any rounded opinion,
00:31:46.860 because I haven't had an awful lot of time to study the evidence one way or the other.
00:31:49.580 Have you heard about Tommy Robinson?
00:31:50.940 No. Does that name ring a bell?
00:31:52.380 No. No?
00:31:53.340 Well, yeah, he's in jail because, uh, yeah, he was in contempt of court.
00:31:57.100 Yeah, Tommy Robinson, yeah, he's like a crypto sort of fascist guy.
00:32:00.300 Tommy Robinson, not that, not that guy.
00:32:02.460 Yeah, yeah, yeah, we have.
00:32:03.660 Yeah.
00:32:04.140 Does he sometimes have something good to say, even if you don't like the man?
00:32:07.260 Does he sometimes shine a light on a truth?
00:32:09.500 No, he hasn't. His is the politics of hate and prejudice, and it's as simple as that.
00:32:12.940 And who does he hate?
00:32:13.740 As simple as that. We're a, we're a, we're a really good accepting country here.
00:32:17.260 You know exactly the sort of things he hates.
00:32:18.940 I'm not even going to give him the airtime, or I'm not even going to start to list his targets,
00:32:24.780 because it buys into his agenda.
00:32:26.700 I'm not trying to fight with you, I'm just trying to...
00:32:28.300 You know what I say to him and all people like him?
00:32:30.300 It's when people stop wanting to come to this country, we are really in trouble.
00:32:34.140 Yeah? All those things they go on about that are reasons why people come here.
00:32:38.700 Well, they come here for free schools, they come here because they get education,
00:32:41.580 they come here to get a roof over their head, makes me proud of this country.
00:32:45.020 Yes, it is the sort of country you can come to, and you do get those things,
00:32:48.540 which is why people come here. And the day that stops is the day we're f***ed.
00:32:51.900 Have you heard about Tommy Robinson?
00:32:54.540 Not enough to speak on him.
00:32:56.220 Have you heard of him? You know who I'm talking about?
00:32:57.740 No, sorry.
00:32:58.780 I have, yeah.
00:32:59.340 What are your thoughts on him?
00:33:01.820 Mix.
00:33:02.700 And he's in prison now for publishing a video that the courts ordered him not to publish.
00:33:07.100 What do you think of that?
00:33:10.380 I think it's a good idea.
00:33:11.660 Why is that? Don't you believe in the British concept of free speech?
00:33:14.940 Yeah, I believe in free speech, but there's a line that has to be crossed sometimes,
00:33:20.380 and he's crossed that line.
00:33:21.660 Yeah, he did something against the law, so that's why he's in jail.
00:33:25.180 Yeah, he should be locked up, or he should be punished.
00:33:27.500 Are you worried that that's...
00:33:28.540 I think he's a troublemaker anyway.
00:33:31.340 Well, you don't get there for nothing.
00:33:34.300 It's the political climate at the moment is something that he's probably crossed the mark on.
00:33:40.060 It's not long enough for him. He should have been jailed for longer.
00:33:42.940 He's a racist.
00:33:44.940 And should we jail people who are racist?
00:33:47.020 Yeah, if they're racist, yeah, it's illegal.
00:33:49.820 I didn't know it was illegal.
00:33:51.260 Yeah, it's illegal in this country.
00:33:52.540 Well, we are in a society now, you have to be very careful what you say.
00:33:56.460 You say one thing, they don't agree, the other thing they don't agree, so...
00:34:00.780 Is there too much censorship in the UK?
00:34:02.460 I think so.
00:34:03.180 There's a lot of issues that ordinary people talk about, I think, person to person,
00:34:07.500 but they may be scared to talk about to a broader audience, like immigration or the grooming gangs.
00:34:13.260 How are those issues going to be resolved if Brits can't have full-blown conversations?
00:34:18.540 How are those things going to be solved?
00:34:20.220 They're not listening. They're definitely not listening to the public.
00:34:26.620 Maybe it's harder than we know. I don't know. I don't know what to say.
00:34:29.740 They don't want to admit what's going on because it's all political.
00:34:35.020 They're looking for votes. They don't want to upset the apple cart.
00:34:37.740 We're meant to be an equal culture, and it's not working that way.
00:34:42.060 We as whites in this country now are a minority. We're the second race.
00:34:46.620 First of all, just in the United States, when we're looking at rebel news,
00:34:50.620 we're seeing somebody that's actually talking truth to power.
00:34:53.500 Wow.
00:34:53.900 And you were talking truth to Trudeau, and you prevailed because you're still here and he's not.
00:34:59.660 They did handcuff me. It was the only time in my life of being in jail.
00:35:03.020 I don't know how you tolerate it, but the great thing is that true media, you take the punches,
00:35:08.860 you take the hits, you take the handcuffs, and you get right to it.
00:35:11.740 Well, thanks very much. It's nice to meet you.
00:35:14.460 Stay at it.
00:35:15.100 Bye, guys. Take care.
00:35:16.300 What a hoot. Meeting Rebel fans in Leicester Square in the UK.
00:35:21.020 What do you think of the state of free speech in the UK? Is it being withered away? Is it strong?
00:35:25.660 Do you believe in it?
00:35:26.540 I believe in it. I think it's still, at its core, still fundamentally there.
00:35:31.100 I think there are attacks on it from time to time, but I think everybody's just got to be
00:35:35.900 unified across all walks of life and defend it to the death because that's what we're based on.
00:35:41.260 I think freedom of speech still exists. It's when you go online, do it online and on some certain websites,
00:35:47.820 that it becomes a bit viral and it becomes, you know, a bit stupid.
00:35:54.620 It's just being stifled.
00:35:55.900 Yeah. And where's that coming from? What part of society is stifling the conversation?
00:36:00.860 The top. The top. Why do you think they're doing that?
00:36:03.740 Because they don't want to be exposed as being dictatorial, dictating to everybody.
00:36:10.220 It's just, we're no longer a democracy. We're now being dictated to. It's a dictatorship.
00:36:15.740 Not necessarily. I mean, it's getting very sort of, you haven't politically correct nowadays,
00:36:21.980 but things have changed in that respect.
00:36:23.740 But do you think people are able to talk about things like immigration?
00:36:27.180 I think so, yeah. It depends on the group of people you're with. It does vary.
00:36:32.780 Well, you can say what you want, but it's when you go online and you try to spread it online,
00:36:40.860 that it gets viral.
00:36:41.900 How is that worse than spreading it in person? Like, if you talk to 100 people in person,
00:36:46.700 how is that different than talking to 100 people online?
00:36:49.420 Because you don't see them online. You see them in person. You know that who you're talking to,
00:36:53.980 you can have a conversation with. They're good people. But online, you don't know who the hell you're talking to.
00:36:59.100 So it sounds like you're okay with a little bit of online censorship.
00:37:01.420 Yeah, definitely.
00:37:03.500 Can I challenge you? Because you just told me that people should be jailed if they're a racist.
00:37:07.420 Oh, no, that's different. You know, that's offensive. Freedom of speech is different.
00:37:11.980 Aren't you allowed to be offensive?
00:37:13.420 What you're doing at the moment is freedom. You didn't even ask me if you could film me,
00:37:17.260 but I'm allowing you to. Because I'm...
00:37:19.420 Okay, fair enough.
00:37:21.420 But aren't I allowed to hurt your feelings? I mean, I would never hurt you physically, but
00:37:26.140 can I say something that hurts your feelings? Isn't that part of free speech?
00:37:29.900 Oh, it is. But there are limits to anything, isn't there? And racism is the limit.
00:37:36.700 So even if what he says is wrong, should he be jailed for it?
00:37:39.980 Yeah, if he's been told off, if he's been given enough warnings. I mean, Britain has got pretty good
00:37:46.780 for free speech if you take it on a global, global looking at the different countries. I think we're
00:37:54.620 up near the top. Why do you think the Labour government voted against an inquiry into the rape
00:38:01.420 gang? Because exactly what I say. I believe that, unfortunately, the victims who have suffered
00:38:06.780 this are going to actually be compensated or at least something happened to them. An inquiry,
00:38:14.940 as I say, is going to say another two, three years, four years, knowing the way politics work.
00:38:19.100 Aren't we allowed to stir up a little bit of trouble in politics?
00:38:21.980 Yes, you're allowed to start a discussion. It's free speech. It is free speech.
00:38:27.340 He does incite violence, doesn't he? And he incites a lot of very bad feelings.
00:38:33.100 But feelings and violence, I don't know if he's incited violence. I don't think so. But feelings,
00:38:37.980 aren't we allowed to elicit feelings? I mean, isn't that what a passionate political speech does?
00:38:45.100 A union leader, Brexit for or against, Labour, Tory for or against. Aren't we allowed to be
00:38:50.460 passionate and to stir up passions? We are indeed, yes. But not of hatred.
00:38:57.420 Tommy Robinson has had some popularity because other politicians are afraid to talk about
00:39:03.340 immigration, grooming gangs. So it's been left to Tommy Robinson because powerful people don't
00:39:09.180 want to talk about it. The Labour government just voted against an inquiry into grooming gangs,
00:39:13.580 for example. But there was previous grooming gang inquiries, wasn't there? And it's a big debate as
00:39:17.340 to whether those grooming gang inquiries were enough or whether there needs a further grooming gang inquiry.
00:39:22.060 Are you worried about them at all? No, no. But they've used these things
00:39:25.180 as an agenda to highlight in certain communities where it has arisen or certain recent cases.
00:39:33.020 But it's, you know, the problem of pedophiles and grooming, that's across every single culture.
00:39:40.620 They're trying to make out it's coming from one place. It's not. It's not.
00:39:44.220 But in Rotherham, for example, about 100,000...
00:39:46.700 You can pick an example, then you've got...
00:39:48.380 There's a huge example, 1,400 white girls. There were white girls and most of the men were Pakistani
00:39:52.860 Muslim men. I don't know that. I don't know...
00:39:56.220 I don't know if that's true. I'm just going by the reports.
00:39:57.740 I don't know... I don't know if they...
00:39:58.780 There was a commission of inquiry. There was a government inquiry.
00:40:00.940 I don't know if they were all...
00:40:02.140 There weren't all. About 80% were Pakistani Muslim men. I'm not making that up.
00:40:06.540 I'm just reading the report. I read the...
00:40:08.220 So have you... have you been to jail? Have you seen the face of pedophiles in front of you
00:40:11.980 and what their ethnicity is? Like lone white pedophiles or pedophiles who are that...
00:40:17.340 from that country. But we can all agree that that's bad stuff.
00:40:21.740 I won't let that drag down a greater community who do a lot for this country.
00:40:27.740 I detect a bit of a Scottish brogue. And I'm from Calgary, Canada,
00:40:31.500 which is named after a place in Scotland. I love Scotland.
00:40:34.540 Now, I know you guys had a First Minister called Hamza Yosef for a while.
00:40:37.900 Yeah. But he didn't do a lot of favors for Scotland, did he?
00:40:40.540 I don't... He didn't last long.
00:40:41.580 He gave a speech once where he talked about how Scotland...
00:40:44.540 Yeah, I'm an idiot. He's an idiot.
00:40:47.420 But why are we so surprised when the most senior positions in Scotland
00:40:51.820 are filled almost exclusively by those who are white?
00:40:55.900 Take my portfolio alone. The Lord President, white.
00:41:00.140 The Lord Justice Clarke, white. Every High Court Judge, white.
00:41:04.620 The Lord Advocate, white. The Solicitor General, white.
00:41:08.220 The Chief Constable, white. Every Deputy Chief Constable, white.
00:41:12.220 Isn't that anti-white racism?
00:41:14.060 Yeah, it is. Yeah, it is. If it was another... Imagine if the role was reversed.
00:41:17.100 If there was a white minister saying,
00:41:19.500 well, we've got too many black people here, we've got too many Asian people.
00:41:22.700 You have to just accept people for what they are and what they bring to the country
00:41:25.580 and what they contribute. It's not about classing people as A, B, C or D,
00:41:29.180 which was what he was doing.
00:41:30.300 Generally, when people start talking about freedom of speech, a lot of the time,
00:41:37.100 they want to offend someone.
00:41:38.540 But you've offended a number of people in your conversation with me, I'm sure.
00:41:43.180 People watching, and some people will be mad, but isn't that your right?
00:41:45.500 Well, why would you?
00:41:47.020 Well, you would offend... Because you had some very strong things to say,
00:41:50.060 and I love hearing it.
00:41:51.020 No, I'm not. I've said nothing offensive.
00:41:52.700 Well, some people might find it offensive.
00:41:54.300 This is a great country, and the sad day will be when people don't want to come here.
00:41:57.180 And I've said that these grooming gangs are not typical.
00:42:02.300 Somebody might find you offensive.
00:42:03.500 Of the communities from which they're from.
00:42:04.540 You've got so much energy, I bet occasionally you bump into someone
00:42:07.180 who doesn't like what you say. Come back.
00:42:08.700 I doubt it. You doubt it?
00:42:09.820 I've got a show.
00:42:10.220 Okay, nice to meet you.
00:42:11.580 Last question, and I thank you guys for stopping to talk to me.
00:42:14.380 Elon Musk has been using Twitter, or X as it's now called,
00:42:19.180 to talk about some of these issues, immigration, grooming gangs.
00:42:23.020 And some British politicians say he should be censored
00:42:26.620 because he's interfering in British affairs.
00:42:28.940 What are your thoughts on Elon Musk and his use of his social media platform?
00:42:32.940 I think he should stay out of English politics.
00:42:35.580 He's not wanted.
00:42:36.780 I think he's a bit over the top regardless of that.
00:42:40.700 So, yeah, I think he should interfere.
00:42:44.380 Because, I mean, there's a political approach to politics between,
00:42:47.900 especially as he's in the US government, so...
00:42:50.540 Well, that's it from Leicester Square.
00:42:56.140 If you want to learn more about Tommy Robinson, well, as you know,
