Rebel News Podcast - EZRA LEVANT ｜ The public may be getting sick of the Hamas hate marches but Trudeau isn't

00:00:00.000 Hello, my rebels, and today's show I'm going to quote about four different public opinion

00:00:03.340 polls at you that will give you hope that the madness you see on TV is not approved

00:00:08.240 of by people at home.

00:00:09.720 I'll start with a poll out of Calgary showing that radical mayor is the lowest recorded

00:00:13.600 popularity of any mayor in Calgary history, and then I'll show you a poll taken by Angus

00:00:19.380 Reid who asked people, is Islam a positive or negative force in public life in Canada?

00:00:26.400 Incredible answers.

00:00:27.680 I'll take you through that.

00:00:28.340 But first, let me invite you to become a subscriber to Rebel News Plus.

00:00:31.980 It's the video version of this podcast.

00:00:34.260 It's eight bucks a month, which might not sound like a lot to you, but boy, it adds up for

00:00:37.860 us.

00:00:38.480 It's how we pay the bills because we don't take any money from Trudeau.

00:00:41.420 Please go to rebelnewsplus.com and click subscribe.

00:00:44.960 All right, here's today's show.

00:00:50.820 You're listening to Rebel News Podcast.

00:00:58.340 Tonight, I think the public is getting sick of the Hamas hate marches, but Trudeau

00:01:04.980 isn't.

00:01:05.680 It's December 20th, and this is the Ezra Levant Show.

00:01:08.500 You're fighting for freedom!

00:01:11.520 Shame on you, you censorious bug!

00:01:14.500 I've seen some public opinion polls that are interesting.

00:01:25.800 I'd like to share them with you.

00:01:27.180 There's a new poll out about the mayor of Calgary.

00:01:29.460 The hard left-wing G.O.T.

00:01:32.020 Gondek is her name. 0.97

00:01:33.400 She's awful.

00:01:34.460 You might remember one of the very first things she did after becoming mayor of Calgary, 0.94

00:01:38.420 a city built on the oil and gas industry.

00:01:40.640 Is she declared a climate emergency?

00:01:43.000 What?

00:01:44.200 Not a tax emergency or a homeless emergency or an unemployment emergency or a violence

00:01:48.900 emergency on the streets.

00:01:50.360 None of those are her top priorities.

00:01:51.900 She didn't mention the climate emergency until after she was elected, of course.

00:01:56.100 It's gone from bad to worse.

00:01:57.800 Her obsession with censorship is very un-Canadian, very un-Calgarian.

00:02:02.140 She's brought in laws, as you know, that are surely unconstitutional, banning peaceful

00:02:06.500 protests against transgender extremism.

00:02:09.540 And her police obediently followed through with this. 0.99

00:02:12.600 It's so gross.

00:02:13.960 The other day, police arrested two men for simply having a private personal conversation 0.93

00:02:18.860 about transgenderism on the subway.

00:02:21.740 They later dropped the charges against them, but only after lawyers from the Democracy Fund

00:02:25.900 got involved.

00:02:26.920 So it's true.

00:02:27.440 She's been hated by Calgarians pretty much since the day she was elected, but there's

00:02:34.580 a new pull-out that captures, in part, the public reaction to her anti-Semitic decision

00:02:40.100 to boycott the annual Jewish menorah lighting ceremony for the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

00:02:45.780 It's a Calgary tradition that goes back a generation.

00:02:48.100 I used to go as a kid.

00:02:49.100 It's about as innocuous as can be.

00:02:51.460 It's like lighting Christmas lights on a Christmas tree, but it's a Jewish candelabra 1.00

00:02:57.240 one night a year.

00:02:58.280 It couldn't be more generic and friendly and family-ish.

00:03:02.880 Gondek refused to go.

00:03:04.740 But when the Jewish community leader said, look, can you just be quiet about it and not

00:03:08.860 make a fuss about it?

00:03:09.680 No way.

00:03:10.420 She wanted to make a fuss. 1.00

00:03:11.580 That was the whole point.

00:03:12.400 She did the opposite.

00:03:13.100 She put out a press release denouncing the menorah lighting as some sort of political

00:03:17.640 statement in support of Israel and taking sides against Hamas.

00:03:20.980 And so, of course, she would never take sides against Hamas.

00:03:24.680 And she made a big fuss about it, very anti-Semitic, absolutely a dagger in the heart. 1.00

00:03:29.840 She put a press release basically saying that it was inappropriate for the mayor of Calgarians.

00:03:37.580 It was just outrageous. 0.86

00:03:38.480 It's almost like she doesn't like Jews.

00:03:40.520 Or rather, it's almost like she can count.

00:03:43.960 Calgary has maybe 10,000 Jews, but more than 100,000 Muslims.

00:03:49.360 She did the math, I guess, and she knows where the votes are.

00:03:52.620 But even that is gross. 0.90

00:03:54.120 She assumes that the Muslim community itself wouldn't tolerate her being seen with Jews. 0.99

00:03:58.540 She's so gross, Jodi Gondek, isn't she? 1.00

00:04:00.960 But here's the good news about her I mentioned. 0.97

00:04:03.580 Even though that ideology is a perfect fit for Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party, it's

00:04:09.460 thankfully not a perfect fit for Calgary.

00:04:11.880 A new poll out shows the Calgarians disapprove of her by more than a two-to-one margin.

00:04:18.100 Let me read it to you from—it's all over the news.

00:04:20.120 I'll read it to you from Trudeau's CBC state broadcaster.

00:04:22.800 Think HQ's online survey of 1,138 Calgarians earlier this month shows the mayor's approval

00:04:29.960 rating down six percentage points since the public relations firm last surveyed in June.

00:04:34.460 61% of those surveyed between December 5 and 11 said they disapprove of the mayor's performance.

00:04:42.580 9% said they were unsure.

00:04:45.160 And look at that bar graph there.

00:04:46.900 Only 7% of people strongly approve of Gondek.

00:04:50.100 I agree that there's a lot of reasons to dislike her, but her numbers have plunged in just the last month 0.93

00:04:56.320 or so, or two months.

00:04:58.300 And the main news about her in that period of time is her boycott of the Jews of Calgary.

00:05:02.780 And look at these new national polls.

00:05:06.020 Here's one of my favorite pollsters, the Liberal firm called Abacus.

00:05:10.540 I like them because when they have bad news about the Liberals, I can trust it because they like the Liberals,

00:05:14.600 so they're loathe to say it.

00:05:15.840 They're predicting 221 seats in Parliament for the Conservative Party.

00:05:20.920 That's up 17 from their last prediction.

00:05:22.840 There's only 338 seats total.

00:05:25.180 That would be a Canadian historical record if this poll came true.

00:05:29.640 Others concur, if not quite to the same degree.

00:05:31.740 A pollster named Innovative Research came out with these stats the other day.

00:05:37.180 You can see them here, 205 seats for the Conservatives, and the Liberals cut down to just 63.

00:05:42.380 I'm getting excited just reading these things.

00:05:46.040 A new one by Main Street Research.

00:05:47.940 I'm just showing you different pollsters so you know it's not rogue.

00:05:50.820 Boulder, 215 seats for the Conservatives, just 57 for the Liberals.

00:05:54.920 Now, Trudeau can bide his time under our Constitution.

00:05:57.840 He could theoretically last until 2026, as long as he could keep negotiating with Jagmeet Singh,

00:06:04.240 who's got to be the weakest man in Canada.

00:06:06.140 It's just astonishing.

00:06:07.440 But let me show you another poll that delves into some issues, namely immigration.

00:06:11.580 And let's talk about it, about Muslim immigration, too.

00:06:15.860 This is a new one from Angus Reid.

00:06:18.660 And I'm just going to show you the one question I find most interesting, okay?

00:06:22.940 The question they ask is this.

00:06:24.780 In your view, would you say the overall presence of each of these in Canadian public life

00:06:30.300 is benefiting or damaging Canada and Canadian society?

00:06:34.680 And he asks about religion.

00:06:36.480 So it's an interesting question.

00:06:39.660 He doesn't ask if people ought to practice religions in their private lives.

00:06:43.560 The question is specifically about the public square, which is a pretty good question when

00:06:47.480 you think about it.

00:06:48.760 And look at the answers now as opposed to when he asked these questions a year ago.

00:06:52.720 Start on the left of the chart.

00:06:54.460 Catholicism.

00:06:54.820 I was surprised.

00:06:56.140 31% of people think it's negative, which really surprised me.

00:06:58.980 But then again, Justin Trudeau and the mainstream media has been at war with the Catholic Church

00:07:03.300 for a generation, smearing it as anti-Indigenous, et cetera.

00:07:07.240 And so that number is unchanged from last year.

00:07:11.100 The number who say it's a net positive has fallen a bit from 26% to 22%.

00:07:16.000 I find this sad because, of course, Catholicism is an enormous charitable force in the public

00:07:22.360 square in Canada.

00:07:23.800 How can more people think that Catholicism is bad than good?

00:07:27.060 I'm troubled by that.

00:07:29.180 Protestantism is the next denomination tested.

00:07:32.820 Very few people object to Protestantism in the public square.

00:07:36.300 14% last year, 15% this year.

00:07:39.420 No real change, I guess.

00:07:41.020 Around 41% or 42% of people don't even have an opinion on the subject.

00:07:44.260 22% or 23% of people think it's negative, no real change.

00:07:50.840 For Jews, 9% thought that Judaism was a negative force last year.

00:07:56.100 That's now up to 13%, which is concerning.

00:07:59.200 And I think it's a function of the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic propaganda in the Hamas war.

00:08:05.120 The number who say Jews are a positive force, though, actually grew a bit from 23% to 25%.

00:08:11.360 I think Jews have a big impact on society, certainly in certain fields, academia, science,

00:08:17.900 the professions, and certainly in charities and charitable giving.

00:08:21.360 But maybe I'm biased.

00:08:22.820 But look at the last column.

00:08:24.100 That's what I want to talk to you about.

00:08:26.700 Islam.

00:08:28.500 Last year, 29% of people told Angus Reid that Islam was a negative force in Canada.

00:08:34.340 Now that number has skyrocketed to 43%.

00:08:39.260 And the number who say that Islam is a positive force has plunged, too, down from 18% to just 13%,

00:08:45.760 the lowest for any religion.

00:08:47.560 It's the least liked and the most disliked religion in Canada.

00:08:53.080 And the number of undecideds is falling, too.

00:08:55.020 People are making up their minds.

00:08:56.020 Why is this happening and why now?

00:09:01.040 Well, I think the most important change in the past year happened two and a half months ago,

00:09:04.620 the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel with torture and rape and the kidnapping of civilians,

00:09:11.240 including women and children.

00:09:13.760 There were so many terrifying images of torture and rape that were positively cheered,

00:09:18.840 bragged about why Hamas, like this one. 0.77

00:09:21.220 Hamas live-streamed their crimes and bragged about it. 0.98

00:09:24.600 And around the world, Muslim crowds cheered, cheered the violence and the depravity. 1.00

00:09:29.660 Hamas did not conquer a single square inch of land. 0.96

00:09:33.320 It did not move itself any closer to success for its own people.

00:09:36.480 It only inflicted a grievous wound on its sworn enemies, the Jews, especially women and children. 0.65

00:09:41.740 But that's what they were cheering, the horror of it.

00:09:46.880 And I think a lot of people noticed the nature of that and who was cheering.

00:09:50.820 They noticed people pulling down pictures of the kidnapped women and children all around the West,

00:09:55.960 those pictures of those kidnapped hostages.

00:09:58.360 Who would pull down pictures like that?

00:10:00.500 It would be like pulling down a picture of a lost child.

00:10:03.260 Why would you do that?

00:10:04.940 Some woke leftists, but a lot of new immigrants to Canada did. 0.97

00:10:08.460 And even people who are not yet immigrants, who are just still foreign nationals here as our guests.

00:10:13.600 And then week after week, as the Hamas hate marches were held in cities across Canada, people noticed, too.

00:10:20.120 They noticed the terrorist paraphernalia, the terrorist flags.

00:10:24.060 It was hard not to notice.

00:10:25.540 I mean, there were literally flags of banned terrorist groups being flown and women wearing machine gun earrings.

00:10:32.160 And there were no arrests, which was really gross, too.

00:10:35.260 Palestinians shut down major roads, like the most important road in downtown Toronto, the Gardner Expressway. 0.99

00:10:42.780 They shut down major bridges in Montreal.

00:10:45.620 They blocked subways in Toronto.

00:10:48.080 And just this week, they stormed into a mall, the Eaton Center, shouting threats of murder at terrified Christmas shoppers.

00:10:54.660 You know what, I'm telling you, because if you touch it, I'm going to put him on the floor.

00:11:00.420 You come near me, I'll put you lay down on the floor.

00:11:03.040 I'll lay you asleep.

00:11:04.200 I'll put you six feet deep.

00:11:05.860 I'll put you six feet deep.

00:11:09.760 He's not trying to shake. 1.00

00:11:10.720 He's a pussy, man. 1.00

00:11:11.900 He's sticking. 1.00

00:11:12.800 Leave him. 0.78

00:11:13.840 Leave him. 0.78

00:11:14.320 Leave him. 1.00

00:11:14.960 Oh, bitch. 1.00

00:11:17.160 Oh, bitch. 1.00

00:11:17.840 You guys up here, who are you looking at? 1.00

00:11:23.040 You bitch? 1.00

00:11:23.480 If you're really a pussy, you're a pussy, you're a pussy. 1.00

00:11:32.860 No, no, no, we're not going to hurt him. 1.00

00:11:34.120 Put aside the cowardly reaction by police, and for the moment, put aside the grotesque acceptance of this by politicians,

00:11:41.160 from Jody Gondek and Justin Trudeau to the equally cowardly Doug Ford and city mayors like Olivia Chow.

00:11:47.680 Remember, police are usually run by city police commissions,

00:11:50.580 and prosecutions are run by provincial justice departments.

00:11:54.480 So where are the prosecutors here?

00:11:57.220 People notice this.

00:11:59.200 They notice the attacks on Jewish businesses, the swarming of Jewish restaurants, just because they're Jews. 0.78

00:12:04.200 That's not a Canadian way to express yourself, to demonize Jews, to shout and shriek at Jews.

00:12:11.820 And although I'd say 15 to 20 percent of the protesters in these big cities are woke, white leftists, 0.98

00:12:16.940 you simply can't not notice that the vast majority of these thugs, these masked thugs threatening violence, are Muslim. 0.98

00:12:24.440 Hamas is an explicitly Muslim organization, as is the Taliban and all the other terror groups who flags are on our streets. 0.96

00:12:31.820 And Canadians notice this.

00:12:34.140 We notice, of course we notice, and we notice the double standard in policing.

00:12:37.140 Not for a second did the peaceful truckers do anything like this.

00:12:40.400 They didn't storm anything.

00:12:42.060 They didn't threaten genocide of put just six feet under like that thug.

00:12:46.260 They didn't trespass into private buildings.

00:12:48.240 They were in trucks outside in the cold on the streets in front of parliament, parliament that was actually closed for renovations.

00:12:55.460 They were in the cold honking their horns for a bit until a judge told them to stop honking, and then they stopped.

00:13:01.900 Trudeau put the country under martial law for that.

00:13:04.640 But you have Hamas hate marches masked, threatening, calling for the genocide of Jews, and nothing.

00:13:12.140 No one's stopping it.

00:13:14.680 Trudeau voted with Hamas at the United Nations.

00:13:17.020 Oh, and today, Hamas put out a video thanking him.

00:13:20.940 Did you see this?

00:13:21.820 The statement by Canada, Australia, and the New Zealand backing sustainable ceasefire in Gaza.

00:13:29.720 We welcome these developments and consider them in the right direction toward isolation of the fascist Israeli government globally 0.77

00:13:40.020 and ending the longer-ever occupation in our modern time.

00:13:45.920 Finally, we call all countries and the free people of the world to keep their momentum going to support, aid, and show solidarity with the Palestinian people by all possible and available means.

00:14:02.300 That's a disgrace, but I bet you Trudeau's pretty excited about that.

00:14:04.980 It'll shore up his Hamas vote. 0.99

00:14:06.780 You know, in the last 90 days, Trudeau let in more than 400,000 new migrants to Canada, many of whom are Muslim, almost none of whom were vetted in any meaningful way.

00:14:19.740 They certainly weren't interviewed or met in person.

00:14:21.580 I saw a statistic that there are now more than 1.7 million Muslims in Canada.

00:14:27.680 There's barely 300,000 Jews.

00:14:29.400 Trudeau can do the math, right?

00:14:31.060 And he's willing to put up with anti-Semitism and support for terrorism and screaming in our streets if it means he wins the next election.

00:14:38.140 A lot of politicians are doing that math, too.

00:14:41.080 And people can see all that.

00:14:44.480 People don't like it.

00:14:46.480 And I think peaceful Muslims shouldn't like it either. 1.00

00:14:49.340 There are peaceful Muslims, of course.

00:14:51.420 It's harder to spot them because they're not shouting at you.

00:14:54.500 I still haven't seen a single mosque in the country, though, denounce a mosque without saying but. 1.00

00:14:59.820 Not one Muslim organization of note.

00:15:02.900 Why should they?

00:15:03.620 Trudeau doesn't say it.

00:15:05.860 Canadians don't like this.

00:15:07.020 And so they were asked about Islam, and they answer 43% say it's a negative force.

00:15:13.500 If I were a Canadian Muslim, I would not like this. 0.98

00:15:16.620 I would not want the face of the Muslim community to be those masked thugs. 1.00

00:15:20.800 I would not want the voice of the community to shout threats in an Arabic accent. 1.00

00:15:26.900 I wouldn't want Muslims in the name of Islam saying that Christmas is going to be canceled this year

00:15:32.540 and terrifying kids going to see Santa in the mall.

00:15:37.020 But Trudeau loves all this.

00:15:51.580 He loves the chaos.

00:15:52.520 He loves his plan to bring in 1.6 million migrants this year.

00:15:56.380 Do you think he cares about housing prices?

00:15:58.180 He cares about disrupting the country and bringing in a million more liberal voters.

00:16:04.160 The people are expressing their discontent in these polls.

00:16:08.100 Who will be the political entrepreneurs to get ahead of it and to call for a reduction of mass immigration,

00:16:13.600 especially for immigrants who are not a cultural fit with our values of peace, freedom, and pluralism?

00:16:19.180 Or do we have to go so far down this road that we reach the crisis that the Netherlands and other European countries have?

00:16:27.780 Here's what Geert Wilders, the winner of the Dutch elections, told me about that when I saw him a few weeks ago.

00:16:32.640 What advice would you give to freedom-oriented conservative parties who are obviously afraid of losing the vote of new immigrants?

00:16:44.380 What advice would you have for Canada or the United Kingdom?

00:16:46.500 Well, don't be afraid.

00:16:48.360 First, don't be afraid.

00:16:49.700 A lot of people will support you.

00:16:51.440 Secondly, it's a totally misconception that the immigrants would disagree.

00:16:57.020 Because maybe for some people, surprisingly, the immigrants agree. 1.00

00:17:00.920 Many of the immigrants agree. 0.79

00:17:02.240 For in Holland, many of the immigrants, even many Muslims, voted for my party.

00:17:07.020 Because they know that when there is too much influx of immigration, that the integration and the success for them will only diminish.

00:17:15.720 So they also are in favor of less immigration.

00:17:19.580 They know, they see what will happen with the housing, with their income, with the jobs, with everything.

00:17:25.280 So surprisingly, it's not surprisingly, but surprisingly to many people, they are often our allies.

00:17:30.320 They don't want more immigrants to come as well.

00:17:33.160 And their own voters, the indigenous people, they, in a growing majority, also feel the same.

00:17:39.980 So don't be afraid to be politically correct or incorrect.

00:17:43.900 Just state your mind.

00:17:45.840 People believe, I always make the comparison to one person's house.

00:17:49.980 You know, you have to be able, in your own house, to decide who will be your guest and when the guest should leave.

00:17:56.500 This should be your autonomous and nationwide and national decision.

00:18:01.860 In Holland, most of it, we gave those powers to the European Union.

00:18:05.660 Canada is a sovereign country.

00:18:06.720 There is no European Union in Canada.

00:18:08.440 So the Canadian government really can decide to close the borders for people they don't want to enter,

00:18:15.060 like President Trump did and is planning to do if he would win next year by people from certain countries.

00:18:22.600 So don't be afraid.

00:18:24.120 Just do it and you will be surprised how many people support it, including the immigrants themselves.

00:18:31.180 Yeah, things are going to get worse.

00:18:33.440 Stay with us for more.

00:18:34.460 Well, the world is on fire in so many ways.

00:18:48.700 There's the war between Israel and Hamas.

00:18:50.740 There's the war between Russia and Ukraine.

00:18:53.180 I see news today that Xi Jinping has told Joe Biden, just said to him, that he plans to conquer Taiwan by any means necessary.

00:19:01.460 And that's just foreign affairs and war.

00:19:04.240 Of course, the real concern for most Canadians, Americans, Brits, and many others around the West is inflation.

00:19:11.160 And it's due to some of the same reasons in all the jurisdictions I just mentioned.

00:19:15.080 The government printing money by the hundreds of billion or trillions of dollars, basically shutting down the economy during the lockdowns and then juicing it with fake money.

00:19:25.020 Well, of course, that's going to mean inflation takes root.

00:19:28.160 And then add to it carbon taxes.

00:19:30.640 And you heard him when I talked to Kurt Bilden's nitrogen taxes.

00:19:34.800 They're taxing the elements in the periodical table as if a chemical.

00:19:38.880 If you tax a chemical, the world will change.

00:19:41.080 So all of these things, high housing prices, high grocery prices, high gas prices, it's tough to get ahead.

00:19:48.620 I see that the average person in Canada won't even get into a house till they're almost 40.

00:19:54.680 How do you start a family?

00:19:55.920 I say all this because the world is on fire.

00:19:59.340 And what's the last thing we need?

00:20:02.860 Well, let me read to you a headline from our friends at the Taxpayers Federation.

00:20:07.500 I'm sorry to do this to you folks because it'll put you in that tailspin of depression.

00:20:11.900 The headline is simply, more federal tax hikes in 2024.

00:20:16.980 Are you serious?

00:20:19.720 Serious is a heart attack.

00:20:21.080 And joining us now to talk about it is our friend Chris Sims, the Alberta Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

00:20:27.720 Chris, good to see you again.

00:20:29.460 Although you bring with us bad news, I should have known.

00:20:32.640 But according to your calculations, taxes on Canadians are going up by thousands of dollars in the new year.

00:20:40.680 Tell me the details.

00:20:42.580 Yeah, unfortunately, we're the bearer of bad news.

00:20:45.500 We wish we weren't.

00:20:46.340 So the big one, let's start with the big one, Ezra, is of course the carbon tax.

00:20:50.420 This is Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's baby.

00:20:53.140 And he just loves it.

00:20:54.400 It's a mandatory minimum carbon tax.

00:20:57.140 It's applied now across the country, including in the maritime provinces, which caused a bit of a dust up a few weeks ago.

00:21:03.040 And he's cranking it up.

00:21:04.860 So as of right now, if you went outside and filled up your vehicle with gasoline, it would cost you 14 cents extra per liter just in the carbon tax.

00:21:14.740 He's going to crank that up to 17 cents per liter.

00:21:18.560 Now, even if you don't drive, I guarantee everybody watching eats and uses things.

00:21:25.020 So trucks bring all of our groceries and all of our supplies and trucks, those big rigs, they run on diesel.

00:21:33.160 The carbon tax on diesel is going up to 21 cents per liter.

00:21:37.700 So this is really eye-watering.

00:21:39.960 If you're filling up a couple of those tanks on a big rig truck, it's about $160, $170 extra just in this carbon tax.

00:21:49.880 Yeah.

00:21:50.340 Yeah, and that's where the inflation comes from.

00:21:52.280 You can't say you're fighting inflation when you're printing money like a madman and then jacking up a tax on literally everything.

00:21:59.900 I'm looking at your press release here.

00:22:01.340 You know, you just talked about the carbon tax, which is atrocious.

00:22:06.500 They have one called the alcohol escalator tax.

00:22:10.200 And for a second, I thought that means you can't, if you take a beer on an escalator, you know, they'll charge you extra.

00:22:16.360 But it's even worse than that.

00:22:17.880 Tell me about this alcohol escalator tax.

00:22:21.820 What's that all about?

00:22:23.380 Yeah, it sounded like one of those antiquated laws where, you know, you can't trade a penny on a moving train or something.

00:22:28.140 No, it just means it goes up automatically, which is a real kick in the teeth, because this means that members of parliament don't need to have the guts to kind of show up to the House of Commons, maybe on Zoom, maybe not, and vote to increase your alcohol taxes.

00:22:43.540 No, it's locked in.

00:22:44.900 It goes up and up and up every single year.

00:22:46.960 And it's supposed to be by the rate of inflation.

00:22:49.360 And so the rate of inflation is terrible right now.

00:22:52.000 A lot of folks may not realize this, but if you purchase beer, around 50%, 5-0, half of that is taxes.

00:23:00.600 If you're drinking a glass of wine or a box of wine, hopefully with a friend, that's around 75% taxes.

00:23:08.900 Right.

00:23:09.060 And if you're using liquor, like spirits, like whiskey and vodka, it's already 80% taxes.

00:23:16.680 Yeah.

00:23:16.940 It's really eye-watering.

00:23:18.520 And unfortunately, our taxes on alcohol are automatically going up again next year.

00:23:23.120 That's 100 million bucks a year right there, according to your release.

00:23:25.720 Yep.

00:23:26.060 And there's one more tax, and it's the worst, because it is literally a tax on jobs.

00:23:33.340 And that's the payroll taxes.

00:23:35.620 What's up for – those are the things that are deducted from your employer and from your paycheck every month.

00:23:41.880 You know what?

00:23:42.460 I remember when I graduated from university, and I was this right-wing guy in class, and I would always argue with my other students.

00:23:49.520 And the first time, the first time I bumped into my classmates after we all graduated and worked, they were just shocked,

00:23:56.780 because they thought they were going to be making this salary here that they had negotiated.

00:24:01.080 But they looked at their paycheck, and they were getting this salary here.

00:24:05.080 They had never stepped outside the bubble of unreality, and it was amazing.

00:24:11.140 And all it took was two weeks to turn these socialists that I had sparred with in university into fire-breathing capitalists just because they felt robbed.

00:24:21.560 Well, that's going up again.

00:24:22.840 And forget – and those were baby lawyers, so don't have too much sympathy for them. 0.57

00:24:27.320 But these CPP and EI taxes, that's on everyone.

00:24:31.520 That is on blue-collar jobs.

00:24:32.900 That's on service jobs.

00:24:34.600 That is – I mean, maybe we shouldn't spare any sympathy for lawyers.

00:24:37.620 They can afford it.

00:24:38.460 But this is on everybody, isn't it?

00:24:41.040 Yeah, it is.

00:24:41.740 It's not just on the workers themselves.

00:24:43.560 As you pointed out, it's on the employers.

00:24:45.980 It's on the job creators.

00:24:47.520 You know, this is, you know, Ayn Rand's nightmare, where they're just increasing payroll taxes for the punishment of what?

00:24:53.200 Employing people, being productive.

00:24:55.400 And so this is usually referred to as CPP, but they are payroll taxes.

00:25:00.500 Some bureaucrats try to jump up and down and say it's not a tax.

00:25:03.980 Well, right on the Government of Canada website, they're listed as payroll taxes.

00:25:07.780 And you can't opt out of them, and the government forces them on you.

00:25:11.140 So, sorry, that's a tax.

00:25:12.980 That's unfortunately going up as well.

00:25:15.660 And this is weird.

00:25:16.800 There's a special new secondary CPP, and it's kind of strange, and they've got this weird formula, Ezra, and it's only affecting people who earn between like $68,000 and $72,000.

00:25:30.740 We don't yet know why this weird window, this weird bubble bracket is existing for this new CPP.2, but it's there for next year.

00:25:40.520 So it's definitely something we're investigating.

00:25:42.380 At the end of the day, you're going to have more coming off of your paycheck in payroll taxes in 2024.

00:25:49.160 Let me read from your press release.

00:25:51.920 For workers making $73,200 or more, and by the way, you can't even live on that in Vancouver or Toronto if you're living in a house or renting.

00:26:02.900 So that's not even an impressive number.

00:26:05.700 I would even dare say if you've got a family, that's working poor.

00:26:09.980 And I know that sounds astounding to call $73,000 working poor.

00:26:13.880 If you are in Toronto, Vancouver, or other cities where housing, housing's going to take that whole chunk.

00:26:20.520 Here's what you say.

00:26:21.620 For workers making $73,000 or more, federal payroll taxes will cost them $5,104.

00:26:29.440 So that's not even income tax.

00:26:31.660 That's not even HST or GST.

00:26:33.900 That's just for the privilege of working.

00:26:36.240 They're knocking you down $5,000.

00:26:37.620 And by the way, they're socking your employer with $5,000.

00:26:40.240 That is $10,000 that you have to pay, taken right off your paycheck.

00:26:45.620 I don't know.

00:26:46.480 It's a war on people.

00:26:48.340 And I see Trudeau trying out, like, oh, you're Trump, you're MAGA extremists.

00:26:53.340 It's so pitiful.

00:26:54.700 What on earth?

00:26:55.380 And I just don't want to believe that any real person in Canada, especially a young person, who's thinking, why are you talking about Donald Trump?

00:27:04.360 Can you please tell me why I can't keep the money I earn?

00:27:06.920 Can you please tell me how I'm going to be able to pay rent or buy a house one day?

00:27:10.780 Oh, and Trudeau says, well, let me tell you about the scary Donald Trump.

00:27:14.180 It's just so disconnected from real life.

00:27:17.240 Last word to you, Chris.

00:27:18.420 I agree, Ezra.

00:27:20.340 It's really gross.

00:27:21.640 And for those of us who've worked in Ottawa, we remember that it can become a bubble.

00:27:26.340 And politicians and bureaucrats can live in that bubble and forget how real people live.

00:27:31.400 Unfortunately, we also have a prime minister who's a king of a bubble.

00:27:35.220 He's never had to balance a checkbook or pay a bill in his life.

00:27:38.860 So he doesn't understand what it is to truly fight to make ends meet.

00:27:42.860 And he's jacking your taxes up.

00:27:44.480 Yeah, you know what?

00:27:45.420 I said that was the last point, but I want to throw one more thing that just jumped into my head.

00:27:48.580 Chrystia Freeland was asked a surprise question that she was not ready for, which was, how has the cost of living affected you in your real life?

00:27:57.160 Uh-oh, she wasn't briefed on that.

00:27:58.880 And you can see her start to get into her word salad fog machine talk. 1.00

00:28:02.740 But she was thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking.

00:28:05.680 And the only thing that came to mind was, well, there's a soup kitchen near me that is worse than ever. 0.68

00:28:13.320 And that is, I suppose, an answer.

00:28:16.060 It's true.

00:28:17.120 There's more people going to food banks, more homeless people than ever.

00:28:19.700 And it is directly contributed to by the cost of living and cost of everything.

00:28:25.840 But it's also not an answer to how has it affected you.

00:28:29.300 Because it is a fact that Chrystia Freeland, like the rest of the cabinet, has a limousine driver.

00:28:34.600 And she doesn't pay the gas. 0.81

00:28:36.120 And they have subsidized everything.

00:28:38.360 And they have automatic increases every April Fool's Day.

00:28:41.940 The MPs give themselves an automatic raise.

00:28:44.060 And the senators, too.

00:28:45.240 And the fact is, she could not say a single way in which real life penetrates her bubble.

00:28:51.800 Here, take a look at this video.

00:28:53.400 What example, not an announcement, what example can you share that would illustrate that you understand the pain in the pinch that Canadians are feeling at the grocery store when they're doing budgets?

00:29:02.260 You know, how does it look in the Freeland household when we're in a cost of living crisis?

00:29:06.740 Well, you know, Anne-Marie, I think the thing that, like, in my regular life brings the challenge home the most personally to me is that my church, which is around the corner from my house, just up the street from us here,

00:29:26.380 the Church of the Messiah, has a food bank every Wednesday.

00:29:32.380 And the lines have been getting longer.

00:29:36.140 And that is heartbreaking.

00:29:38.920 It's heartbreaking that we have food banks in Canada.

00:29:42.040 And it's really heartbreaking to see that people really need them.

00:29:47.280 Yeah, Christia Freeland, she was the woman who said, if inflation's tough, just don't watch Disney Plus, guys.

00:29:54.660 I mean, stop living it up.

00:29:56.680 Don't watch Disney Plus and you'll be okay.

00:29:58.740 Really?

00:29:59.620 Not with a $5,000 payroll tax on me.

00:30:02.320 Chris, keep up the good fight.

00:30:03.340 You guys are the good guys.

00:30:04.300 I love talking to you.

00:30:05.480 Your colleague, Franco Teresano, he's got high energy.

00:30:08.300 You guys are all high energy advocates for the taxpayers because you don't take a dime from Trudeau.

00:30:12.800 That's why I trust you.

00:30:14.540 Thanks, Ezra.

00:30:15.260 Likewise.

00:30:15.880 Merry Christmas, everyone.

00:30:16.860 All right.

00:30:17.240 You too.

00:30:17.700 Cheers.

00:30:18.060 There you have it.

00:30:18.460 Chris Sims, the Alberta Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

00:30:22.100 Stay with us.

00:30:22.600 More ahead.

00:30:24.660 Hey, welcome back to Your Letters to Me.

00:30:36.180 Howard Tenenbaum says, if you listen to enough interviews of protesters when they stop shouting

00:30:40.460 their mindless chants, you'll find that the majority have no idea what they're protesting

00:30:44.360 about.

00:30:44.660 It's absolutely stunning and not surprising.

00:30:47.260 And the violent nature or aggressive nature of the protest is such that there's no question

00:30:50.880 that these non-peaceful demonstrations should be shut down.

00:30:53.500 They know so very little.

00:30:55.380 And in fact, we did, we showed a video from our Australian journalist, Avi Amini, who had

00:31:02.820 a friend down there who went sort of undercover to a protest in Australia and asked basic questions

00:31:08.280 like, where is Gaza?

00:31:10.260 What does it border?

00:31:11.640 When they say from the river to the sea, what do they mean?

00:31:13.880 Here's just an excerpt from that.

00:31:15.160 Which country does Israel border?

00:31:17.360 Egypt?

00:31:18.360 I don't think so.

00:31:19.360 No.

00:31:20.360 I've no idea.

00:31:21.360 You're asking me.

00:31:22.360 I like this to you now.

00:31:24.360 What does this chair from the river to the sea actually mean?

00:31:27.820 From the river to the sea.

00:31:28.820 From the river to the sea.

00:31:29.820 It was always Palestine. 1.00

00:31:30.820 It belonged to Palestine.

00:31:31.820 The whole land.

00:31:32.820 Exactly.

00:31:33.820 The whole land.

00:31:34.820 I support a one-state solution.

00:31:35.820 And that's a one-palestinian solution. 0.91

00:31:36.820 It's really important that people understand the meaning behind that.

00:31:37.820 So dismantling the Zionist state of Israel. 0.54

00:31:38.820 Correct.

00:31:39.820 Under Palestinian Arab sovereignty. 0.74

00:31:40.820 And that includes Tel Aviv and no Jewish state.

00:31:41.820 Yes.

00:31:42.820 I don't understand it too much.

00:31:43.820 I've actually...

00:31:44.820 This is the first time I've heard that phrase.

00:31:45.820 Yeah.

00:31:46.820 So I don't know a whole lot about it.

00:31:47.820 But from what I can understand, Israel certainly...

00:31:49.820 Isn't it on the Black Sea?

00:31:50.820 It's not even on the Mediterranean, right?

00:31:51.820 Israel? 0.53

00:31:52.820 Yeah.

00:31:53.820 It's on the Black Sea, no?

00:31:54.820 The Black Sea?

00:31:55.820 Yeah.

00:31:56.820 Right?

00:31:57.820 From the sea is the Mediterranean.

00:31:58.820 And from the river to the Euphrates.

00:31:59.820 The Jews have the two lines particularly. 0.99

00:32:00.820 Right.

00:32:01.820 They went from river to river.

00:32:02.820 Right?

00:32:03.820 It's called the Glare of Israel. 0.89

00:32:04.820 They want to expand.

00:32:05.820 From the Euphrates River to the river to the river.

00:32:07.820 Right?

00:32:08.820 They want to expand from the Euphrates river to the river.

00:32:11.820 They want to expand from the Euphrates river to the river.

00:32:12.820 I hear that phrase?

00:32:13.820 Yeah.

00:32:14.820 So I don't know a whole lot about it.

00:32:15.820 I don't know a whole lot about it.

00:32:16.820 But from what I can understand.

00:32:17.820 Israel certainly, isn't it on the Black Sea?

00:32:21.820 It's not even on the Mediterranean, right?

00:32:22.820 Israel? 0.53

00:32:23.820 Yeah.

00:32:24.820 Yeah.

00:32:25.820 expand from the euphrates river to the nine river right it ain't gonna happen man they're stuck in

00:32:32.220 palestine it's on one allowed right we got in stock in palestine and south lebanon and we'll

00:32:38.780 destroy them there from which river to which sea from yeah which river uh euphrates river

00:32:49.260 yeah i believe that's the one yeah to the black sea isn't it the jordan sea yeah they don't really

00:32:56.940 care about the details but then again i put it to you you go to an environmentalist rally they don't

00:33:00.620 care about the details you go to a black lives matter rally and i don't know more rally you go

00:33:04.700 to an antifa rally they don't really care about the details all they care about is the revolution the
