00:01:32.960 All right. Here's today's podcast.

00:01:38.800 You're listening to our latest podcast.

00:01:46.740 Tonight, Donald Trump wins his first foreign affairs battle in spectacular fashion.

00:01:55.660 It's January 27th, and this is The Ezra LeVant Show.

00:01:59.220 You're fighting for freedom!

00:02:02.080 Shame on you, you censorious bug! 0.58

00:02:05.240 Donald Trump has been working on things even before his inauguration.

00:02:18.720 I don't think the guy has taken a single day off since the election, and he was working every single day during the election, too.

00:02:26.880 I wish I had his energy, and he's almost, I guess he's 25 years older than me.

00:02:31.860 Here's an example. He insisted that Israel wrap up its war against Hamas and that the hostages be released by the time of his inauguration, and I suppose that was halfway accomplished.

00:02:45.600 He started negotiating with Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin over the termination of the war in Ukraine.

00:02:52.520 He has been lobbying Denmark to have Greenland become an American protectorate or territory.

00:02:58.280 He's been telling Panama that it should get ready to hand back the canal to America, which once owned it.

00:03:04.800 And, of course, as you know, he's been pressing Canada and Mexico to strengthen our borders with the U.S., to stop illegal migrants and illegal drugs from coming across.

00:03:14.520 And he's threatened a tariff on our imports if we don't.

00:03:17.280 Now, given that Joe Biden is a bit of a vegetable, no one really dealt with him after the election, other than those who were talking to, I don't know, the committee behind the curtain, I don't know who ran the government during Biden's time, people who wanted pardons.

00:03:34.100 Anthony Fauci, he got a pardon going back to 2014.

00:03:37.480 That seems odd.

00:03:39.560 General Milley, the high-ranking general who said he had back channels with China and would stop Trump if he had to.

00:03:47.940 And, of course, Biden's entire family getting pardons literally the morning of the inauguration.

00:03:54.960 Joe Biden has given away more pardons than any president in history.

00:03:58.400 They really meant it when they called it the Biden crime family.

00:04:01.600 But Trump's pace since he became president is staggering, even compared to how busy he was during that transition period.

00:04:11.480 They typically talk about the first 100 days of a president's term.

00:04:15.920 In the case of Trump, it's the first 100 hours.

00:04:19.340 Seriously, I found it thrilling to watch him sign so many executive orders.

00:04:24.340 I think there were about 200 of them in the first few days.

00:04:27.780 He's obviously meticulously drafted in advance, ready to go on that first day.

00:04:34.040 But sometimes an executive order is just a piece of paper.

00:04:38.360 To take that piece of paper into action, well, that's been so exciting.

00:04:44.000 For example, to have the U.S. military deployed on the southern border with Mexico.

00:04:50.220 That was riveting to see, the kind of thing that in the past General Milley would have stopped.

00:04:55.340 And to see ICE, that's the immigration police, to see ICE enforcement against some of the baddest hombres out there.

00:05:03.380 Here's Dr. Phil, who was out with the ICE czar in Chicago, rounding up criminals. 0.98

00:05:10.880 In this case, a child rapist. 0.98

00:05:13.460 Take a look at this. 1.00

00:05:14.380 Where are you from?

00:05:16.880 Where I was born or where I'm from?

00:05:19.080 Where are you born?

00:05:20.200 Thailand.

00:05:22.460 You've been deported before from the United States?

00:05:24.580 No.

00:05:25.780 Never been deported?

00:05:27.880 I've been in a system with all.

00:05:30.360 Yeah?

00:05:31.120 Yeah.

00:05:31.900 What have you been charged with?

00:05:34.240 Charged with?

00:05:35.960 Before?

00:05:38.980 I'm not a sinner.

00:05:39.920 I'm not charged with my lawyer.

00:05:42.680 Yeah.

00:05:43.500 Are you a citizen?

00:05:45.100 My mom's a citizen.

00:05:46.860 Your mother's a citizen?

00:05:48.140 Yes.

00:05:49.440 But you're not?

00:05:50.820 Nope.

00:05:52.540 But you've never been deported before?

00:05:54.080 You're Dr. Phil.

00:05:55.360 You're like Dr. Phil.

00:05:57.060 Yeah?

00:05:57.680 How do you know me?

00:05:59.480 No, I've seen Dr. Phil, you know, on TV.

00:06:03.280 Yeah?

00:06:03.820 Yeah.

00:06:05.300 Yeah.

00:06:05.700 Well, this is an example of sanctuary cities, right?

00:06:10.100 We've got an illegal alien convicted of sex crimes involving children, and he's walking 0.63

00:06:16.020 the streets of Chicago.

00:06:17.280 So, again, the downfall, the problem with the sanctuary city, that people like us walking

00:06:23.800 the street, rather than law enforcement working with federal agents, this is what we're dealing

00:06:27.560 with.

00:06:27.820 Yeah.

00:06:29.540 You've been charged with sex crimes with children?

00:06:32.840 Not really.

00:06:34.380 Not really?

00:06:37.640 And never been deported?

00:06:39.380 Nope.

00:06:40.760 Huh.

00:06:41.020 Let's take them in the process and lock them up. 0.97

00:06:44.640 Got it, sir.

00:06:45.640 On Trump's very first day as president, 308 migrants were deported.

00:06:51.100 It's been thousands more since then.

00:06:53.020 Now, by the way, those are still rookie numbers.

00:06:55.860 If you're going to deport 10 million people over four years, do the math, you need thousands 0.80

00:07:00.720 and thousands per day.

00:07:02.400 But it's an impressive start.

00:07:04.560 Speaking of deportations, there was a claim that Colombia and other countries that are hostile

00:07:13.260 to the United States, Colombia being a socialist country led by an actual communist, there was

00:07:18.620 a claim that Colombia emptied their prisons to go to the United States.

00:07:25.440 I mean, think about it.

00:07:26.300 That's what Fidel Castro did in the Mariel Boatlift when Jimmy Carter was in office.

00:07:32.440 I think it was 79 or 1980, just before Ronald Reagan won.

00:07:37.600 About 120,000 migrants came from Cuba.

00:07:40.740 Now, some of them were indeed political prisoners.

00:07:43.820 Some of them were freedom activists that Castro was happy to kick out of Cuba.

00:07:48.020 But along with that, Castro emptied the prisons of murderers and rapists and thieves, and he 0.60

00:07:56.500 emptied the insane asylums, people who were simply mad.

00:08:00.440 And he sent them all to America saying, you want us to release people? 0.94

00:08:04.680 Here you go.

00:08:05.740 He sent some wonderful people, freedom fighters, but many of the most awful people around.

00:08:11.720 It was the idea behind the movie Scarface with Al Pacino.

00:08:16.940 Here's a flashback of that.

00:08:18.340 Obviously, this is a fictional movie, but based on the Mariel Boatlift.

00:08:21.880 ¿Cómo se llama?

00:08:23.940 Antonio Montana.

00:08:26.360 And you?

00:08:27.180 What you call your son?

00:08:28.700 Where'd you learn to speak the English, Tony?

00:08:30.880 In a school.

00:08:32.700 And my father, he was from the United States.

00:08:36.000 Just like you, you know.

00:08:36.960 He was a Yankee. 0.76

00:08:40.860 He used to take me a lot to the movies, you know.

00:08:43.100 I learned.

00:08:43.940 I watched the guys like Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney.

00:08:49.220 That teach me to talk.

00:08:51.480 I like those guys.

00:08:53.260 I always know one day I'm coming here, United States.

00:08:56.840 So where's your old man now?

00:08:58.400 He's dead.

00:08:59.340 He died.

00:09:00.920 Sometime.

00:09:02.480 Somewhere.

00:09:03.080 Mother?

00:09:04.080 She's dead, too.

00:09:05.100 What kind of work you do in Cuba, Tony?

00:09:06.740 My car, you know, things.

00:09:08.740 I was, uh, this, uh, construction business.

00:09:14.560 I worked a lot with my aunts.

00:09:16.300 I was in the army.

00:09:18.100 As I showed you with Tom Homan in the field with Dr. Phil,

00:09:22.060 criminal illegal migrants have been the first to go.

00:09:25.460 That is, every illegal immigrant is a lawbreaker, 1.00

00:09:29.380 but those who actually committed secondary crimes as well, like rape,

00:09:33.360 they have been targeted as the priority deportees.

00:09:36.880 And there's been incredible images of them being loaded onto military planes

00:09:41.220 and flown to their home country, including to Colombia,

00:09:45.900 which allegedly emptied its prisons in a Castro-like move.

00:09:49.460 So planes were en route to Colombia.

00:09:52.580 And according to the U.S. administration, this was all approved and authorized.

00:09:57.320 But then the Colombian president balked.

00:10:02.840 He refused to allow the planes of deported Colombian citizens,

00:10:07.900 who the U.S. says are criminals.

00:10:09.560 He refused to let the plane in.

00:10:11.600 Well, Donald Trump, he was playing a round of golf,

00:10:15.840 so I'm not going to say he never takes a break.

00:10:17.680 He heard about it, and he put out a tweet,

00:10:21.960 or actually it was a post on Truth Social, his own social media platform.

00:10:26.660 Now, I want to read to you every single word.

00:10:30.860 It's about a two-minute read.

00:10:33.100 And this was put out in between rounds of golf. 0.78

00:10:35.420 So just to set the table, you have criminal Colombian citizens 1.00

00:10:40.900 being deported on a plane that has been authorized to land in Colombia.

00:10:45.300 They have the right to return to Colombia. 0.89

00:10:48.140 They're Colombian citizens.

00:10:49.780 They were illegally in America, and they were accused of crimes in America.

00:10:55.320 The president of Colombia says, no thanks.

00:10:58.540 Here's how Trump reacted.

00:11:01.220 I'm going to read every single word.

00:11:02.720 I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States

00:11:06.820 with a large number of illegal criminals

00:11:09.260 were not allowed to land in Colombia.

00:11:11.920 This order was given by Colombia's socialist president, Gustavo Petro,

00:11:17.220 who is already very unpopular amongst his people.

00:11:20.800 Petro's denial of these flights has jeopardized

00:11:23.040 the national security and public safety of the United States.

00:11:26.660 So I have directed my administration to immediately

00:11:29.460 take the following urgent and decisive retaliatory measures.

00:11:35.240 Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States.

00:11:40.020 In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%.

00:11:43.820 A travel ban and immediate visa revocations

00:11:48.560 on the Colombian government officials and all allies and supporters.

00:11:53.780 Visa sanctions on all party members, family members,

00:11:56.840 and supporters of the Colombian government.

00:11:58.600 Enhanced customs and border protection inspections

00:12:02.240 of all Colombian nationals and cargo on national security grounds.

00:12:08.200 IEEPA treasury, banking, and financial sanctions to be fully imposed.

00:12:14.120 These measures are just the beginning.

00:12:16.500 We will not allow the Colombian government

00:12:18.040 to violate its legal obligations

00:12:19.900 with regard to the acceptance and return of the criminals

00:12:22.660 they forced into the United States.

00:12:25.300 He put this out in the middle of playing golf.

00:12:29.960 This is diplomacy by tweet or by truth social media.

00:12:34.860 I'll tell you one thing.

00:12:36.580 That got Colombia's attention.

00:12:38.140 They thought they would flick Trump in the nose.

00:12:40.520 Trump is a man on a mission.

00:12:42.460 And by the way, Trump is legally correct.

00:12:44.740 You can't approve and authorize flights and then deny them.

00:12:49.940 And by the way, these are your citizens.

00:12:52.080 You must retake them.

00:12:54.440 Well, here is the reply.

00:12:57.020 Less than one hour later.

00:12:59.480 I mean, imagine.

00:13:00.920 And this was on the weekend.

00:13:04.140 Imagine under Joe Biden.

00:13:05.580 Joe Biden wouldn't have cared.

00:13:07.100 He would have accepted this act of impudence.

00:13:10.320 And he wouldn't have even known.

00:13:11.920 Some staffer would have dealt with it 0.53

00:13:13.280 and they would have been very risk averse.

00:13:15.060 Trump absolutely poked back on social media.

00:13:19.100 Why go through any more formal means?

00:13:23.100 And reading that, I imagine every single big shot in Colombia, 0.62

00:13:28.300 political, business, sports, entertainment said,

00:13:32.540 what, I can't go to the United States anymore?

00:13:35.920 Because Trump was basically saying,

00:13:39.620 if you don't accept the ground rules

00:13:41.320 for how we travel and visit each other,

00:13:43.160 including sending home your criminal migrants, 0.95

00:13:45.580 then if you're throwing out those rules,

00:13:48.520 we're going to throw them out too.

00:13:49.680 You started it.

00:13:50.860 Here's what Gustavo Petro wrote,

00:13:53.040 and I'm going to read part of it.

00:13:54.260 This is a rough translation.

00:13:57.400 The government of Colombia,

00:13:58.580 under the direction of President Gustavo Petro,

00:14:01.000 has dispatched the presidential plane

00:14:03.820 to facilitate the dignified return of compatriots

00:14:07.880 who were to arrive in the country

00:14:08.960 in the early hours of the morning

00:14:10.220 coming from deportation flights.

00:14:12.620 The measure demonstrates the commitment of the government

00:14:14.940 to ensure dignified conditions for our compatriots.

00:14:18.320 Despite the challenges,

00:14:19.360 they have not been stripped of their rights,

00:14:21.260 nor have they been expelled from Colombian territory.

00:14:24.340 Additionally, the government has convened

00:14:25.660 a unified command post on migration

00:14:28.080 in which representatives from the Ombudsman's Office,

00:14:31.980 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

00:14:33.080 and the Presidency of the Republic will participate.

00:14:36.160 This body will act as an objective observer

00:14:38.140 to ensure the dignified treatment of deported Colombians,

00:14:41.580 guaranteeing that the procedures respect human rights

00:14:43.660 and the integrity of each person.

00:14:45.880 Likewise, the government of Colombia

00:14:46.980 maintains active conversations

00:14:48.580 with the government of the United States,

00:14:50.120 seeking agreements that ensure

00:14:51.300 minimal conditions of respect

00:14:53.080 and dignified treatment for our compatriots

00:14:55.420 during deportation processes,

00:14:57.940 blah, blah, blah.

00:14:58.940 So he absolutely capitulated.

00:15:03.540 But he framed it as, well,

00:15:06.000 returning these criminals in a military jet

00:15:09.940 was not dignified enough.

00:15:12.360 That's why we were really upset.

00:15:14.100 So let me send my private jet 0.99

00:15:15.860 to take these accused murderers and rapists home. 0.98

00:15:18.340 He was trying to spin it.

00:15:20.080 But in other words,

00:15:21.340 it was a total capitulation

00:15:23.580 in less than an hour.

00:15:26.400 If he wants to send his personal private jet

00:15:28.180 to pick up his country's criminals, 0.62

00:15:29.900 so be it.

00:15:31.840 He has an obligation to do so.

00:15:33.780 And if not,

00:15:34.980 why should America take

00:15:36.320 any more Colombians of any sort? 0.99

00:15:39.400 And if they were criminals, 0.76

00:15:41.280 why would he insist America keep them?

00:15:44.820 Does he think Trump is Jimmy Carter or something?

00:15:48.040 So he absolutely capitulated.

00:15:50.300 By the way,

00:15:50.780 Trump said he's going to keep

00:15:52.280 some of those conditions in effect

00:15:54.040 until the plane actually lands

00:15:55.900 with the deportees back in Colombia.

00:15:59.820 After writing that sort of official collapse,

00:16:04.180 he wrote a very long rant

00:16:07.220 that should have been started with,

00:16:08.560 Dear Diary.

00:16:09.920 Now, again,

00:16:10.440 this is translated into English.

00:16:13.000 It's a little kooky.

00:16:14.400 You know what?

00:16:15.080 If you have the time,

00:16:15.780 you should find and read the whole thing.

00:16:16.820 I enjoyed reading the whole thing.

00:16:18.440 It's a little bit poetic.

00:16:19.620 It's a little bit sad.

00:16:20.480 It's a little bit emotional.

00:16:21.760 It's a little bit,

00:16:23.020 I don't know.

00:16:24.160 Let me just read it to you.

00:16:25.480 This is a partial excerpt of his Dear Diary.

00:16:28.640 He said,

00:16:29.080 Trump,

00:16:30.660 I don't really like traveling to the U.S.

00:16:34.080 It's a bit boring,

00:16:35.880 but I confess that there are some commendable things.

00:16:38.700 I like going to the black neighborhoods of Washington 1.00

00:16:41.060 where I saw an entire fight in the U.S. Capitol

00:16:44.080 between blacks and Latinos with barricades, 0.86

00:16:46.700 which seemed like nonsense to me 0.98

00:16:48.120 because they should join together.

00:16:49.800 I confess that I like Walt Whitman

00:16:51.680 and Paul Simon and Noam Chomsky and Miller.

00:16:54.800 I confess that Sacco and Vanzetti,

00:16:56.900 who have my blood,

00:16:58.080 are memorable in the history of the USA,

00:16:59.860 and I follow them.

00:17:01.120 They were murdered by labor leaders

00:17:02.840 with the electric chair, 0.91

00:17:04.420 the fascists who are within the USA, 0.99

00:17:06.260 as well as within my country.

00:17:08.020 I don't like your oil, Trump.

00:17:10.000 You're going to wipe out the human species

00:17:11.860 because of greed.

00:17:13.420 Maybe one day over a glass of whiskey,

00:17:15.180 which I accept,

00:17:16.220 despite my gastritis.

00:17:17.740 We can talk frankly about this,

00:17:19.400 but it's difficult

00:17:20.040 because you consider me an inferior race,

00:17:22.480 and I'm not,

00:17:23.100 nor is any Colombian.

00:17:24.140 And it goes on and on and on.

00:17:27.720 Hey, fair enough.

00:17:28.580 Let the guy rant.

00:17:29.380 I don't really know what he's saying.

00:17:30.920 He finds America boring.

00:17:32.380 I don't think I've ever heard America called boring.

00:17:35.040 You can call America a lot of things,

00:17:37.000 but boring it is not.

00:17:40.080 And hey,

00:17:40.860 if he sent his private jet

00:17:42.200 to get the gangsters,

00:17:43.660 go for it.

00:17:44.480 I don't know if playing the race card

00:17:46.200 is really going to work here.

00:17:48.140 But hey,

00:17:49.300 he capitulated.

00:17:51.100 By the way,

00:17:51.900 the United States

00:17:52.640 provides millions of dollars every year

00:17:55.580 for the security of Colombia,

00:17:57.180 which is a pretty tough place.

00:17:59.560 I mean,

00:18:00.140 there's terrorists,

00:18:01.020 there's narco-terrorists.

00:18:02.660 Let me quote from the U.S. State Department,

00:18:04.500 report.

00:18:05.640 I'll just read one line.

00:18:07.240 The United States

00:18:07.780 provides security assistance to Colombia

00:18:09.780 to promote Colombia's long-term stability,

00:18:13.160 strengthen its security capabilities,

00:18:15.020 and boost regional security.

00:18:16.980 This security assistance,

00:18:18.300 which total over $90 million

00:18:19.560 in fiscal year 2023,

00:18:22.200 includes funding from a variety of sources.

00:18:24.440 So,

00:18:25.220 yeah,

00:18:25.780 I mean,

00:18:26.000 you're getting almost 100 million bucks a year

00:18:27.960 from Donald Trump,

00:18:29.380 and it's to support you.

00:18:31.240 And,

00:18:31.960 yeah,

00:18:33.540 you've got to take your

00:18:34.560 illegal migrants back. 0.76

00:18:35.980 Things are a little bit different now.

00:18:37.180 There's a new sheriff in town.

00:18:38.660 It's not,

00:18:39.320 you know,

00:18:41.440 senile Joe Biden anymore.

00:18:42.940 It's not push over Jimmy Carter.

00:18:44.880 And,

00:18:45.620 what are you going to do about it?

00:18:48.620 Is it unfair

00:18:49.740 what Donald Trump did to you?

00:18:51.260 No,

00:18:51.860 actually,

00:18:52.580 he,

00:18:53.120 he has the right

00:18:54.880 to deport non-citizens.

00:18:56.360 Will Donald Trump stand for BS?

00:18:59.940 It appears not.

00:19:02.460 I think that was exhilarating

00:19:03.900 what happened there.

00:19:05.680 Did you see the amazing clip

00:19:07.140 from Los Angeles the other day?

00:19:08.500 And this is related.

00:19:10.140 It was with the victims of the wildfire

00:19:12.000 in the greater LA area.

00:19:14.360 And you had that atrocious mayor of LA,

00:19:17.040 who's actually a communist.

00:19:18.320 Again,

00:19:18.480 I'm not saying that as an insult.

00:19:19.920 I'm saying that as a description.

00:19:23.820 Listen to the mayor

00:19:24.860 talk about how she didn't want homeowners 1.00

00:19:26.880 to have the right

00:19:27.600 to even re-enter their property.

00:19:30.740 And Trump is sitting there.

00:19:31.840 Trump actually went

00:19:32.680 and listened to people

00:19:33.560 and he said,

00:19:34.000 no,

00:19:34.760 they should have the right

00:19:35.620 to go back to their property

00:19:36.640 tonight.

00:19:38.140 Look at this clip.

00:19:39.040 And if individuals want to clear out

00:19:40.780 their property,

00:19:41.480 they can.

00:19:45.540 Well,

00:19:46.040 yes,

00:19:46.560 but you know that you will be able

00:19:48.240 to go back soon.

00:19:50.040 Mr. President.

00:19:50.800 We think

00:19:51.480 within a week

00:19:52.920 that's a long time a week.

00:19:56.620 I'll be honest.

00:19:57.300 To me,

00:19:57.700 everyone's standing

00:19:58.940 in front of their house.

00:19:59.800 They want to go to work

00:20:00.520 and they're not allowed to do it.

00:20:01.620 And the most important thing

00:20:02.720 is for people to be safe.

00:20:05.620 They're safe.

00:20:06.540 They're safe.

00:20:07.100 You know what?

00:20:07.420 They're not safe.

00:20:07.980 They're not safe now.

00:20:09.480 They're going to be much safer.

00:20:12.200 A week,

00:20:12.780 a week is actually

00:20:13.760 a long time

00:20:14.620 the way I look at it.

00:20:15.520 I watched

00:20:16.360 hundreds of people

00:20:18.100 standing in front of their lots

00:20:20.020 and they're not allowed

00:20:20.880 to go in.

00:20:21.760 It's all burned.

00:20:23.200 It's gone.

00:20:24.140 It's done.

00:20:24.700 Nothing's going to happen to it.

00:20:25.820 It's not going to burn anymore.

00:20:26.700 There's nothing to burn.

00:20:27.520 There's almost nothing to burn.

00:20:29.380 And they want to go in there.

00:20:30.740 The people are all over the place.

00:20:32.700 You know,

00:20:33.000 before Trump said,

00:20:34.020 let them back in,

00:20:34.600 and by the way,

00:20:35.040 they were let back in today,

00:20:36.400 you know what the city had planned?

00:20:39.660 An 18-month wait

00:20:42.440 for the government

00:20:43.840 to officially remove the debris.

00:20:47.760 18 months!

00:20:48.840 And no,

00:20:49.700 you were not allowed

00:20:50.240 to remove your own debris.

00:20:51.520 And we are 100% committed

00:20:54.060 to getting this neighborhood

00:20:56.120 rebuilt again.

00:20:57.860 You mentioned a couple of things

00:20:59.280 in terms of us expediting.

00:21:02.060 So I signed executive directives

00:21:04.380 right away

00:21:05.060 so that we could cut the red tape.

00:21:07.100 We could get people back

00:21:08.440 building as fast as possible.

00:21:11.060 And we're going to continue doing that.

00:21:13.300 The one thing is,

00:21:14.280 they are saying

00:21:15.080 they will not be allowed

00:21:16.540 to start for 18 months.

00:21:17.860 No, that will not be the case.

00:21:19.720 Okay, I just hope you're right.

00:21:21.220 You can hold me to it.

00:21:22.280 Four groups said that.

00:21:23.580 No.

00:21:24.200 That would be it.

00:21:24.820 They should be able to do it.

00:21:25.940 They should be able

00:21:26.520 to start tonight.

00:21:27.580 That will not be the case.

00:21:28.800 Trump knows he's got

00:21:29.900 four years as president,

00:21:31.340 and a precious week

00:21:32.160 has already gone by.

00:21:33.400 He is going to do,

00:21:34.840 do, do, do a million things.

00:21:37.000 Do more in a day

00:21:37.900 than previous presidents

00:21:38.920 did in a week

00:21:39.780 or even in a month.

00:21:41.300 And he will simply

00:21:42.600 get to, yes,

00:21:44.300 he's a doer.

00:21:45.320 He's a builder.

00:21:46.320 He's not a DEI hire.

00:21:48.560 I think we should study

00:21:50.080 what happened to Columbia.

00:21:52.900 And I don't think

00:21:54.540 that Trudeau and Melanie Jolie

00:21:55.920 are up to the task.

00:21:57.640 Do you?

00:21:59.220 Stay with us for more.

00:22:00.180 Hopefully you're having

00:22:04.800 a good time

00:22:05.420 with this podcast,

00:22:06.520 but I guarantee

00:22:07.320 a better time

00:22:08.640 would be coming to Alaska

00:22:10.460 with me, Drea Humphrey,

00:22:12.220 and my other Rebel colleagues.

00:22:15.000 You've got to find out more

00:22:16.640 at our special website,

00:22:18.080 rebelnewscruise.com,

00:22:20.700 but it's taking place

00:22:21.740 June 18th to June 25th,

00:22:24.860 a vacation trip of a lifetime.

00:22:28.240 Again, that's

00:22:28.700 rebelnewscruise.com.

00:22:30.540 I'll see you there.

00:22:39.300 Hey, good news.

00:22:40.620 Take a look at this

00:22:41.340 from Ottawa

00:22:42.120 and the Canadian

00:22:42.920 Taxpayers Federation

00:22:43.980 earlier today.

00:22:45.320 I'm Franco Teresano,

00:22:46.660 the Federal Director

00:22:47.360 of the Canadian

00:22:48.080 Taxpayers Federation.

00:22:49.540 And today we're here

00:22:50.420 with a simple message

00:22:51.360 for the government.

00:22:52.780 No taxation

00:22:53.540 without representation.

00:22:55.640 The Canadian

00:22:56.060 Taxpayers Federation

00:22:56.960 is taking the Canada

00:22:58.040 Revenue Agency

00:22:58.980 to court

00:22:59.660 for enforcing

00:23:00.800 the undemocratic

00:23:01.680 and illegal

00:23:02.400 capital gains tax hike.

00:23:04.440 The capital gains tax hike

00:23:05.660 blows a hole

00:23:06.640 through a fundamental principle

00:23:07.840 of Canada's democracy

00:23:09.440 while also blowing a hole

00:23:10.840 in Canada's economy.

00:23:13.320 No taxation

00:23:14.080 without representation

00:23:15.120 isn't just

00:23:15.980 an important principle

00:23:16.940 or a catchy slogan.

00:23:18.720 It's enshrined

00:23:19.580 in the Constitution

00:23:20.340 of Canada.

00:23:21.700 It's Parliament's job

00:23:22.940 to approve tax increases.

00:23:24.780 But the government

00:23:25.380 failed to introduce

00:23:26.420 the legislation,

00:23:27.740 debate the legislation,

00:23:29.220 pass the legislation,

00:23:30.360 or proclaim the legislation

00:23:31.900 into law.

00:23:33.000 And with an election

00:23:34.020 right around the corner,

00:23:35.460 it likely never will.

00:23:37.560 Yet unelected bureaucrats

00:23:39.000 at the CRA

00:23:39.660 are taking billions

00:23:41.020 of dollars

00:23:41.560 from Canadians

00:23:42.660 with this undemocratic

00:23:43.920 tax hike.

00:23:45.220 This is a tax hike

00:23:46.520 that will drag down

00:23:47.420 our economy.

00:23:48.880 This is a tax hike

00:23:49.940 that punishes Canadians 0.99

00:23:50.980 who work their entire lives

00:23:52.340 to save for their retirements.

00:23:54.580 This is a tax hike

00:23:55.680 that will push

00:23:56.500 young, smart Canadian graduates

00:23:58.120 who want to start

00:23:59.020 the next Google

00:23:59.700 to leave Canada

00:24:00.940 and set up businesses

00:24:02.200 in other countries.

00:24:04.040 To put it bluntly,

00:24:05.200 this tax hike

00:24:06.160 is a financial sucker punch

00:24:07.580 to many Canadians

00:24:08.760 who worked hard

00:24:09.580 to invest in properties,

00:24:11.440 create businesses,

00:24:12.540 or save for their retirement.

00:24:14.160 You know,

00:24:14.900 our democratic system

00:24:16.600 is broken,

00:24:17.840 our parliament, that is. 0.99

00:24:19.360 You have a lame duck 0.89

00:24:20.900 prime minister, 0.98

00:24:22.260 so low in the polls

00:24:23.660 in some demographics,

00:24:25.200 he's in single digits.

00:24:26.540 I'm not exaggerating.

00:24:28.180 Young men

00:24:29.260 in Saskatchewan

00:24:30.420 and Alberta,

00:24:31.540 it is single digit

00:24:33.160 support for Justin Trudeau.

00:24:34.940 He's dissolved parliament

00:24:36.220 to avoid a confidence vote.

00:24:38.060 He really is like

00:24:38.900 a cornered animal.

00:24:39.860 He's got a few weeks left. 0.91

00:24:41.680 He's going to go nuts. 0.83

00:24:43.260 Like Joe Biden. 0.90

00:24:44.720 As you know,

00:24:45.280 Joe Biden's final days,

00:24:46.460 he was pardoning everyone,

00:24:47.580 pardoning his friends,

00:24:48.800 pardoning his families.

00:24:51.160 I saw this story

00:24:52.800 in the CBC.

00:24:53.420 Did you see this one?

00:24:54.540 There are about

00:24:55.500 10 empty seats

00:24:57.320 in the Canadian Senate.

00:24:59.480 Trudeau is going to 0.99

00:25:00.500 go on an orgy

00:25:01.580 of patronage appointments.

00:25:03.600 Three seats from Ontario.

00:25:04.960 It'll be interesting

00:25:05.560 to watch the candidates

00:25:07.380 try and outdo each other.

00:25:09.320 Is Rosemary Barton

00:25:10.520 going to get it?

00:25:11.160 Is Andrew Coyne

00:25:12.020 going to get it?

00:25:12.820 All these journalists

00:25:13.880 are going to,

00:25:14.540 you're going to see 0.99

00:25:15.040 more sucking up 0.99

00:25:16.000 in the next month 0.99

00:25:16.880 than ever in Canadian history.

00:25:18.300 That's what happens

00:25:19.760 when you have a discredited 0.97

00:25:20.780 lame duck prime minister 0.73

00:25:21.820 who said he'll resign

00:25:23.680 sometime in the future

00:25:25.000 but refuses to go.

00:25:26.880 So how do you stop that?

00:25:28.900 How do you stop

00:25:29.580 an out of control train

00:25:31.580 when the engineer's laughing

00:25:33.720 because he's only got weeks left?

00:25:35.600 Maybe you go to court

00:25:37.580 and that's what

00:25:38.900 the Canadian Taxpayers Federation

00:25:40.500 are doing

00:25:41.200 about an illegal tax.

00:25:43.040 Joining us now

00:25:43.420 to talk about it

00:25:43.920 is our friend

00:25:44.260 Franco Terrizzano,

00:25:45.080 the boss

00:25:45.960 of the Taxpayers Federation.

00:25:48.220 Franco,

00:25:48.780 our parliament is broken.

00:25:50.060 Can we find relief

00:25:50.940 from the courts?

00:25:52.800 Well,

00:25:53.300 we're going to win

00:25:53.820 this challenge.

00:25:54.780 Okay?

00:25:55.160 Now, folks,

00:25:55.680 the Canadian Taxpayers Federation,

00:25:57.040 we're taking

00:25:57.580 the Canada Revenue Agency

00:25:59.240 to court

00:25:59.960 for enforcing

00:26:01.540 the undemocratic

00:26:02.640 and illegal

00:26:03.660 capital gains tax hike.

00:26:05.820 Now, Ezra,

00:26:06.480 you've heard me say this before,

00:26:08.020 no taxation

00:26:08.900 without representation.

00:26:10.920 Okay?

00:26:11.460 But it's not just

00:26:12.900 an important principle

00:26:13.960 or a catchy slogan.

00:26:16.420 It is enshrined

00:26:17.680 in the Constitution

00:26:18.700 of Canada.

00:26:20.540 Okay?

00:26:20.920 It's parliament's job

00:26:22.100 to approve tax increases.

00:26:24.200 Well,

00:26:24.520 the government

00:26:24.980 has failed

00:26:25.960 to introduce legislation,

00:26:28.080 debate legislation,

00:26:29.620 pass legislation,

00:26:30.520 or proclaim legislation

00:26:32.280 into law.

00:26:33.340 And with an election

00:26:34.860 likely right around the corner,

00:26:36.480 it likely never will.

00:26:37.920 And yet,

00:26:38.260 you still have

00:26:39.000 these unelected bureaucrats

00:26:40.280 at the CRA

00:26:41.020 that are going to be

00:26:41.740 taking billions of dollars

00:26:43.260 from Canadians

00:26:44.100 with this undemocratic

00:26:45.600 tax hike.

00:26:46.580 So, you know,

00:26:47.260 at the Canadian Taxpayers Federation,

00:26:48.600 we knew we couldn't

00:26:49.700 let that stand.

00:26:50.880 That's why we launched

00:26:51.760 this legal challenge

00:26:52.920 against the undemocratic

00:26:54.420 and illegal capital gains tax hike.

00:26:56.360 And we're going to win this one

00:26:57.620 because what the government

00:26:58.960 is doing

00:26:59.840 is wrong.

00:27:01.540 You know,

00:27:02.120 I want to read

00:27:02.720 from your press release

00:27:03.740 because you and I

00:27:05.060 talk about politics

00:27:06.000 and ideas,

00:27:07.220 but really,

00:27:08.300 this is the stuff

00:27:09.100 of real life,

00:27:09.920 of ordinary people

00:27:11.580 who are making decisions

00:27:12.640 in their lives

00:27:13.360 and the government

00:27:14.480 is doing a sneak attack on them.

00:27:16.360 Could I read

00:27:16.760 just one paragraph

00:27:17.420 from your press release?

00:27:18.660 And folks,

00:27:19.000 you can find this

00:27:19.680 at the Taxpayers Federation website.

00:27:21.580 The headline is

00:27:22.220 Taxpayers Launching Court Fight

00:27:23.920 Against Undemocratic

00:27:25.260 Capital Gains Tax Hike.

00:27:27.180 Let me just read

00:27:27.700 two sentences, okay?

00:27:29.760 The CTF,

00:27:31.560 Canadian Taxpayers Federation,

00:27:32.760 is representing

00:27:33.580 Debbie Vorstveld,

00:27:35.500 a resident of

00:27:36.520 Mapleton, Ontario.

00:27:37.560 Last year,

00:27:39.120 she and her husband Willem

00:27:40.200 sold a property

00:27:41.600 that included

00:27:42.160 a secondary home.

00:27:43.620 They had rented

00:27:44.440 the secondary home

00:27:45.280 to their adult children

00:27:46.160 but had to sell it

00:27:46.880 when the kids

00:27:47.260 were ready to move on.

00:27:48.720 The CRA says

00:27:49.840 the Vorstvelds

00:27:50.660 must pay higher

00:27:52.040 capital gains

00:27:52.900 under the proposed

00:27:53.840 capital gains increase

00:27:55.400 or face

00:27:56.320 financial penalties.

00:27:58.160 So,

00:27:58.480 you can just imagine

00:28:00.140 literally millions

00:28:01.940 of Canadians

00:28:02.660 making life decisions

00:28:04.440 about something

00:28:05.220 they've worked on

00:28:06.000 building their whole lives

00:28:07.100 the secondary home

00:28:08.580 a business

00:28:09.200 these are regular folks

00:28:10.680 I don't know

00:28:11.340 the Vorstvelds

00:28:12.060 I'm guessing

00:28:12.640 they're not gazillionaires

00:28:14.040 and you've got

00:28:15.280 this illegitimate

00:28:17.100 unfounded tax hike

00:28:19.920 ,

00:28:19.940 that is surely

00:28:21.540 to be swatted down

00:28:22.500 in the next election

00:28:23.340 but it's being collected

00:28:24.680 against them

00:28:25.220 that is really infuriating.

00:28:27.260 I'm so glad

00:28:27.900 you're helping them

00:28:28.520 but they're emblematic

00:28:29.380 of millions

00:28:30.440 aren't they?

00:28:32.160 Well,

00:28:32.380 that's exactly right

00:28:33.440 and I'm glad

00:28:33.980 you brought up

00:28:34.860 this story,

00:28:35.600 right?

00:28:35.780 Because at the end

00:28:36.540 of the day

00:28:37.020 it's easy to throw

00:28:38.240 figures at people

00:28:39.280 like the fact

00:28:40.060 that the capital gains

00:28:41.040 will mean 400,000

00:28:42.240 fewer jobs

00:28:43.020 but at the end

00:28:43.880 of the day

00:28:44.320 it's these individual

00:28:45.620 stories like this family

00:28:47.100 who are being penalized

00:28:48.280 with an undemocratic

00:28:49.320 and illegal tax hike

00:28:50.580 and to your point

00:28:51.760 like not only

00:28:52.680 are we doing it

00:28:53.260 to stick up

00:28:53.760 for this family

00:28:54.500 but what we're trying

00:28:55.200 to do is set a precedent

00:28:56.260 that what the government

00:28:57.580 is doing is wrong here

00:28:59.100 it's undemocratic

00:29:00.160 and it's illegal

00:29:01.020 and we're trying

00:29:02.040 to protect

00:29:02.520 the thousands

00:29:03.400 of Canadians

00:29:04.560 who will be impacted

00:29:06.320 by this capital gains

00:29:08.220 tax hike

00:29:08.800 now many times

00:29:09.960 you've heard

00:29:10.300 the government spin

00:29:11.320 right?

00:29:11.940 Oh,

00:29:12.220 it's just gonna

00:29:12.720 we're just gonna be

00:29:13.460 going after the monopoly

00:29:14.480 man with this tax hike

00:29:15.720 no,

00:29:16.300 no,

00:29:16.420 no,

00:29:16.580 no,

00:29:16.720 no,

00:29:17.020 no,

00:29:17.440 okay?

00:29:17.740 This is going

00:29:18.440 to affect

00:29:19.140 more than a million

00:29:20.500 Canadians

00:29:21.240 half of whom

00:29:22.660 earn

00:29:23.320 $117,000

00:29:25.720 or less

00:29:27.020 okay?

00:29:27.880 this is a financial

00:29:29.360 sucker punch

00:29:30.340 to people 0.90

00:29:31.160 who worked hard

00:29:32.060 their entire lives

00:29:33.240 to invest in properties

00:29:34.760 to create businesses

00:29:36.200 and put their neighbors

00:29:37.120 to work

00:29:37.700 and to save

00:29:38.720 for their own retirement

00:29:39.900 but not only that

00:29:41.160 this is also a tax hike

00:29:42.620 that will push

00:29:43.460 that young smart

00:29:44.460 Canadian graduate

00:29:45.500 who wants to start

00:29:46.780 the next Google

00:29:48.080 here

00:29:48.900 to leave Canada

00:29:50.280 and set up shop

00:29:51.140 in another country

00:29:51.980 yeah

00:29:52.500 okay?

00:29:53.300 you know it's funny

00:29:53.720 you mention that

00:29:54.300 because Trump

00:29:55.080 is really

00:29:56.120 jabbing at Trudeau

00:29:57.580 over the 51st state

00:29:58.680 and all that

00:29:59.160 and some people

00:29:59.900 laugh that off

00:30:00.500 but there was a poll

00:30:01.480 by Ipsos

00:30:02.280 last week

00:30:03.560 which is a very

00:30:04.040 reputable pollster

00:30:04.880 and it showed

00:30:06.100 young people

00:30:07.460 again young men

00:30:08.360 in particular

00:30:08.940 they're open to it

00:30:11.000 and I think it's

00:30:11.720 about prosperity

00:30:12.580 so when you say

00:30:14.500 young people

00:30:15.100 would consider leaving

00:30:16.120 I mean Trump

00:30:17.180 is saying hey

00:30:17.740 just join us

00:30:18.440 but no

00:30:18.860 we're talking

00:30:19.640 about a brain drain

00:30:20.500 again

00:30:20.820 I mean if you

00:30:21.560 watch America

00:30:22.280 and I know we all do

00:30:23.100 is we're all riveted

00:30:24.000 he is cutting taxes

00:30:25.860 cutting spending

00:30:26.660 cutting regulations

00:30:27.600 that whole doge idea

00:30:29.360 department of government

00:30:30.520 efficiency

00:30:31.020 if you're a young person

00:30:32.760 and you're ready

00:30:33.920 to start something

00:30:34.740 are you going to start it

00:30:35.800 under a country

00:30:36.480 that's going to ratchet up

00:30:37.580 carbon tax every year

00:30:38.740 or are you going to say

00:30:39.760 you know what

00:30:40.320 I can live in

00:30:42.760 California

00:30:43.520 Florida

00:30:44.180 Texas

00:30:44.900 better weather

00:30:46.760 maybe in the winter

00:30:48.060 and I'll be able

00:30:49.040 I mean I really think

00:30:50.300 that this is a

00:30:51.480 competitive

00:30:52.840 moment for Canada

00:30:54.620 your lawsuit

00:30:55.700 is not just going

00:30:56.860 to save individual

00:30:57.640 families

00:30:58.180 it'll change

00:30:59.280 the whole temperament

00:31:00.160 of taxes

00:31:00.660 in this country

00:31:01.300 well we hope so

00:31:03.380 and Ezra

00:31:03.920 I'm glad you keep

00:31:04.780 bringing it back

00:31:05.240 to the person level

00:31:05.960 right

00:31:06.220 I mean people

00:31:07.220 can't afford

00:31:07.820 groceries

00:31:08.420 right

00:31:09.360 the idea of

00:31:10.020 owning a home

00:31:10.700 is loss

00:31:12.040 for so many people

00:31:13.200 who are in their

00:31:13.880 20s or 30s

00:31:15.560 right

00:31:16.200 like think about it

00:31:17.160 if you can barely

00:31:18.120 afford to pay rent

00:31:19.160 you can't save

00:31:19.980 to buy that home

00:31:20.920 to start the family

00:31:22.240 right

00:31:22.800 I mean look

00:31:23.320 things are very

00:31:24.360 tough right now

00:31:25.240 and one of the

00:31:26.160 biggest reasons

00:31:26.860 for this

00:31:27.520 was all the

00:31:28.560 massive money

00:31:29.280 printing we saw

00:31:30.160 in Ottawa

00:31:30.740 the massive tax

00:31:32.140 increases

00:31:32.760 the runaway

00:31:33.800 deficits

00:31:34.300 the crazy amount

00:31:35.400 of money

00:31:35.740 that the government

00:31:36.400 is borrowing

00:31:37.300 now to circle

00:31:38.520 back

00:31:39.080 to this

00:31:39.800 outrageously

00:31:40.740 undemocratic

00:31:41.500 and illegal

00:31:41.960 capital gains

00:31:42.640 tax hike

00:31:43.240 like

00:31:43.780 the liberals

00:31:45.000 in the 2021

00:31:45.880 election

00:31:46.480 never even ran

00:31:47.840 on a capital

00:31:48.860 gains tax hike

00:31:49.740 okay

00:31:50.420 and this mess

00:31:52.040 is the Trudeau

00:31:53.180 government's

00:31:53.640 own creation

00:31:54.320 okay

00:31:55.120 they chose

00:31:56.080 to not pass

00:31:57.500 the capital gains

00:31:58.180 tax hike

00:31:58.600 with the budget

00:31:59.160 they were going

00:31:59.740 to use it

00:32:00.120 as a partisan

00:32:00.680 wedge issue

00:32:01.340 they chose

00:32:02.440 to prorogue

00:32:03.540 parliament

00:32:04.260 okay

00:32:05.180 so think about this

00:32:06.420 they first announced

00:32:07.680 the capital gains

00:32:08.780 tax hike

00:32:09.300 in their budget

00:32:10.180 what was it

00:32:10.620 last April

00:32:11.280 well parliament

00:32:12.260 is shut down

00:32:13.200 until March 24th

00:32:15.080 so it will have

00:32:16.440 been almost

00:32:17.280 a full year

00:32:18.320 since the capital

00:32:19.040 gains tax hike

00:32:19.900 was announced

00:32:20.560 and the legislation

00:32:22.040 forget not even

00:32:23.260 being passed

00:32:24.020 it hasn't even

00:32:25.460 been introduced

00:32:26.260 yeah

00:32:27.000 I don't know

00:32:27.560 how they can do that

00:32:28.460 hey you know

00:32:29.120 I want to throw

00:32:29.740 a stat at you

00:32:30.560 that I didn't know

00:32:31.260 I heard it the other day

00:32:32.280 and I didn't believe it

00:32:33.180 and I just checked it

00:32:34.500 the IRS

00:32:36.080 the Internal Revenue Service

00:32:37.660 that's what they call

00:32:38.300 the tax department

00:32:39.340 in the United States

00:32:40.360 a country of almost

00:32:42.180 350 million people

00:32:44.120 I don't know

00:32:44.400 the exact number

00:32:44.980 it's about

00:32:45.360 about nine times

00:32:46.640 bigger than Canada

00:32:47.500 they have about

00:32:48.800 90,000

00:32:50.220 approximately

00:32:50.840 90,000

00:32:52.080 full-time equivalent

00:32:53.560 staff working

00:32:54.340 at the IRS

00:32:54.880 let me say that

00:32:55.740 number one more time

00:32:56.420 90,000

00:32:57.540 in Canada

00:32:59.160 our CRA

00:33:00.180 Canada Revenue Agency

00:33:01.380 our version of the IRS

00:33:02.840 has 62,000

00:33:05.960 so they have

00:33:07.640 America is

00:33:09.040 900%

00:33:10.900 bigger than Canada

00:33:12.160 but they only have

00:33:13.580 50% more

00:33:14.620 tax collectors

00:33:16.300 how can Canada

00:33:17.500 have really

00:33:18.660 almost as many

00:33:19.600 tax collectors

00:33:20.340 as all of America

00:33:21.240 like that's so insane

00:33:22.620 we have more people

00:33:23.500 in the CRA

00:33:24.880 than we have

00:33:25.540 in the Canadian Armed Forces

00:33:26.680 how?

00:33:28.440 well let me just

00:33:29.300 put those stats

00:33:30.020 into another context

00:33:31.420 here

00:33:31.700 in Canada

00:33:32.620 there is one tax

00:33:33.900 bureaucrat

00:33:34.380 for every 700 citizens

00:33:35.720 in the US

00:33:36.940 there's one tax

00:33:37.980 bureaucrat

00:33:38.440 for every 4,000 citizens

00:33:39.840 right

00:33:40.700 like look

00:33:41.140 like the bureaucracy

00:33:42.260 is so out of control

00:33:43.460 Trudeau has added

00:33:44.900 108,000 extra bureaucrats

00:33:46.560 in less than a decade

00:33:47.380 okay

00:33:48.120 the cost of the bureaucracy

00:33:49.400 has gone up 73%

00:33:51.560 nobody

00:33:53.080 unless you're getting

00:33:54.120 a taxpayer funded paycheck

00:33:55.440 is getting anywhere close

00:33:57.060 to 70% better services

00:33:58.440 from the federal government

00:33:59.420 and then

00:34:00.520 the government

00:34:01.520 goes after

00:34:02.440 doctors

00:34:03.340 entrepreneurs

00:34:04.240 people saving for the retirement

00:34:05.760 with this capital gains tax hike

00:34:07.440 illegal

00:34:07.920 capital gains tax hike

00:34:09.520 and you have any wonder

00:34:11.220 why people are feeling

00:34:13.020 like there is

00:34:14.140 two distinct

00:34:15.480 Canadas here

00:34:16.380 the taxpayers

00:34:17.580 versus the tax consumers

00:34:19.520 the makers

00:34:20.560 versus the takers

00:34:21.880 and the government

00:34:22.840 and the political elite

00:34:23.900 are running around

00:34:24.920 wondering why everyone

00:34:25.920 is so frustrated

00:34:26.940 and fed up

00:34:27.600 well Canadians

00:34:28.360 should be fed up

00:34:29.360 you know

00:34:30.500 you made me think

00:34:31.080 of an old interview

00:34:32.040 early in Justin Trudeau's

00:34:34.400 political career

00:34:35.280 when he sat down

00:34:36.420 with Peter Mansbridge

00:34:37.240 and he talked

00:34:38.260 with great disdain

00:34:39.560 about people

00:34:40.640 who set up

00:34:41.140 little companies

00:34:41.760 and claimed

00:34:42.300 that they want

00:34:42.760 to do that

00:34:43.240 to dodge taxes

00:34:44.560 I don't know

00:34:44.900 if you remember this

00:34:45.500 here's a clip

00:34:46.460 of that interview

00:34:47.400 showing that

00:34:48.420 Justin Trudeau

00:34:49.080 has never

00:34:49.820 really done anything

00:34:51.820 never taken a risk

00:34:52.860 never suffered

00:34:54.060 never put his

00:34:55.500 blood sweat

00:34:56.300 and tears

00:34:56.720 into anything

00:34:57.440 and that's fine

00:34:59.320 I mean he was born

00:35:00.100 with a silver spoon

00:35:01.600 in his mouth

00:35:02.100 he was born into

00:35:03.000 riches and power

00:35:03.760 and fame

00:35:04.180 fine

00:35:04.540 but he never learned

00:35:06.660 compassion for those

00:35:07.860 who suffer

00:35:08.340 here's that clip

00:35:09.320 of him

00:35:09.560 and Peter Mansbridge

00:35:10.320 a few years back

00:35:11.220 I think small businesses

00:35:12.620 should be paying

00:35:13.300 less taxes

00:35:13.940 we just have to make sure

00:35:14.820 that it's done

00:35:15.300 the right way

00:35:15.860 so there could be

00:35:16.940 a cut for small business

00:35:17.960 we have

00:35:19.180 we'll probably have

00:35:20.300 things to say about it

00:35:21.120 but we have to know

00:35:21.820 that a large percentage

00:35:23.520 of small businesses

00:35:25.160 are actually just

00:35:26.540 ways for wealthier Canadians

00:35:29.220 to save on their taxes

00:35:31.020 and we want to reward

00:35:32.020 the people who are

00:35:32.500 actually creating jobs

00:35:33.940 and contributing

00:35:34.580 in concrete ways

00:35:35.960 so there's

00:35:36.440 there's a little tweaking

00:35:37.360 to do around that

00:35:38.100 I don't know

00:35:38.620 I just feel like

00:35:39.780 and I got to be

00:35:40.560 candid with you

00:35:41.120 I feel like we're

00:35:42.160 whoever the next leader is

00:35:43.360 whether it's Mark Carney

00:35:44.420 you know oligarch 0.95

00:35:46.040 master of the universe

00:35:47.140 or Christia Freeland

00:35:49.580 who herself is more

00:35:50.860 middle class

00:35:52.000 but her whole life

00:35:52.860 has been fawning

00:35:54.120 before power

00:35:55.120 she was George Soros'

00:35:56.720 official biographer

00:35:57.620 she was on the board

00:35:58.800 of the World Economic Forum

00:35:59.760 I feel like neither

00:36:01.100 of those leading candidates

00:36:02.280 actually knows

00:36:03.620 what it's like

00:36:04.180 to be an ordinary taxpayer

00:36:05.760 I just feel like

00:36:06.940 they're so out of touch

00:36:07.840 last word to you

00:36:08.540 I know you're non-partisan

00:36:09.460 I just wanted to tell you

00:36:10.520 my thoughts on it

00:36:11.200 last word to you Franco 0.93

00:36:12.080 no our leaders

00:36:13.460 have become

00:36:14.160 financially divorced

00:36:15.120 from the people

00:36:15.660 they're supposed to represent

00:36:16.700 right

00:36:17.560 it's called the

00:36:18.540 House of Commons

00:36:19.600 yeah

00:36:20.220 for a reason

00:36:21.100 yeah

00:36:21.520 right

00:36:21.940 but look like

00:36:22.800 they are so

00:36:23.740 financially divorced

00:36:24.820 from the realities

00:36:25.580 facing their constituents

00:36:27.220 right

00:36:27.780 it truly is a bubble

00:36:28.960 in Ottawa

00:36:29.360 when I moved here

00:36:30.160 from Calgary

00:36:30.820 I've heard the

00:36:31.800 Ottawa bubble terminology

00:36:32.960 I couldn't believe

00:36:34.320 just how real it is

00:36:35.660 and a lot of it

00:36:36.700 is like look

00:36:37.540 the capital

00:36:38.720 Ottawa

00:36:39.400 is really

00:36:40.740 like the bureaucrats

00:36:41.820 the politicians

00:36:42.380 they're living off

00:36:43.520 the hard work

00:36:44.160 from the people

00:36:44.760 who actually make things

00:36:46.060 in society

00:36:47.000 right

00:36:47.340 the taxpayers

00:36:48.120 how can we help you

00:36:49.960 with the lawsuit

00:36:51.040 are you crowdfunding it

00:36:52.320 oh yeah

00:36:53.960 well I mean

00:36:54.440 all of our funding

00:36:55.340 is from voluntary

00:36:56.640 donations from Canadians

00:36:58.040 so there's really

00:36:58.600 two things that you can do

00:36:59.600 I mean

00:36:59.860 if you're able to donate

00:37:01.160 of course

00:37:01.600 we would really appreciate it

00:37:02.800 but if you're not able

00:37:04.020 to donate

00:37:04.500 I understand

00:37:05.160 times are really tough

00:37:06.080 please share this video

00:37:07.360 share what we're putting

00:37:08.560 on social media

00:37:09.480 go to taxpayer.com

00:37:11.100 follow us on social media

00:37:12.480 all of that stuff

00:37:13.520 really really helps

00:37:14.360 taxpayer.com

00:37:15.880 there you have it

00:37:16.420 one of the reasons

00:37:16.920 I like Franco

00:37:17.660 and the taxpayers so much

00:37:18.620 is they don't take

00:37:19.720 government money

00:37:20.280 so that means

00:37:21.320 it's up to you and me

00:37:22.280 to chip in

00:37:23.080 I'm sure even 10 bucks

00:37:24.380 would add up

00:37:25.720 I know

00:37:26.020 you have a thousand people

00:37:27.380 chipping in 10 bucks

00:37:28.260 that's going to move

00:37:29.120 the ball down the field

00:37:30.380 keep us posted

00:37:31.760 I know the JCCF

00:37:34.320 the Justice Center

00:37:35.100 they're taking the liberals

00:37:36.120 to court over

00:37:36.940 the dissolution of parliament

00:37:39.120 the prorogation

00:37:40.140 and I didn't think

00:37:41.300 that had a strong chance

00:37:42.520 until I learned

00:37:43.600 that in the United Kingdom

00:37:45.020 they took prorogation

00:37:47.180 to court

00:37:47.520 and won

00:37:48.100 when it was involved

00:37:49.000 with Boris Johnson

00:37:49.800 I thought wow

00:37:50.660 that really is

00:37:52.520 a strong precedent

00:37:53.460 so I now believe

00:37:55.640 these things are possible

00:37:57.160 I was a skeptic

00:37:58.260 wouldn't that be amazing

00:37:59.440 if the Taxpayers Federation

00:38:00.500 in a court ruling

00:38:02.180 saved millions of people

00:38:03.980 from taxes

00:38:04.580 I'm really rooting

00:38:05.420 for you guys

00:38:06.000 come back when you have

00:38:07.100 more news on the lawsuit

00:38:08.100 how it's going okay

00:38:09.060 I will Ezra

00:38:10.540 thank you so much

00:38:11.280 and I just want to say

00:38:12.020 we're going to win this one

00:38:13.000 right on

00:38:14.060 well we're all rooting for you

00:38:15.540 and we'll follow along

00:38:17.280 at taxpayer.com

00:38:18.960 take care my friend

00:38:19.660 hey thank you

00:38:21.200 all right there you have it

00:38:22.360 Franco is our

00:38:23.580 freedom fighter

00:38:24.560 he's our tax fighter

00:38:25.460 stay with us

00:38:26.280 more ahead

00:38:26.740 hey welcome back to you

00:38:39.380 and I guess I'm going to

00:38:40.220 welcome myself back

00:38:41.080 to Canada too

00:38:41.780 I had a very interesting

00:38:42.980 time last week

00:38:43.800 I spent Sunday

00:38:44.960 in Washington DC

00:38:46.200 including with Premier

00:38:47.720 Danielle Smith

00:38:48.820 very interesting

00:38:49.900 Monday

00:38:50.300 was the inauguration

00:38:51.940 I am exhilarated

00:38:54.180 by it

00:38:54.520 I have to say

00:38:55.540 Tuesday

00:38:56.240 I went to Davos

00:38:58.160 it took me actually

00:38:59.180 a full day to get there

00:39:00.080 I had to take three planes

00:39:01.320 and then three trains

00:39:03.340 but Wednesday

00:39:04.420 Thursday and Friday

00:39:05.540 I was there

00:39:06.420 for the World Economic Forum

00:39:07.640 with our great team

00:39:09.420 I thought it was very exciting

00:39:10.360 and I hope you've watched

00:39:11.240 all those videos

00:39:12.000 we put a lot of them

00:39:13.100 on the show

00:39:13.660 but if you haven't

00:39:14.720 gone to

00:39:15.100 wefreports.com

00:39:17.300 please do

00:39:18.100 I don't know

00:39:19.520 there was a lot

00:39:20.140 of very interesting things

00:39:21.320 and I got a lot of letters

00:39:22.440 from you guys

00:39:23.140 let me go through

00:39:23.720 some of them now

00:39:24.440 the first is from

00:39:25.940 Fred Hink

00:39:26.500 who is talking about

00:39:27.500 the bugs

00:39:28.260 that guy

00:39:29.140 handing out

00:39:30.120 energy bars

00:39:31.520 made from bugs

00:39:32.720 Fred says

00:39:33.980 don't see the billionaires

00:39:35.300 lined up to feast

00:39:36.400 should check to see

00:39:37.620 a bug's on the menu

00:39:38.520 anywhere

00:39:39.000 in Davos

00:39:39.780 well

00:39:40.780 we didn't eat

00:39:42.060 in Davos

00:39:42.540 other than

00:39:42.900 at a cafeteria

00:39:43.720 attached to a grocery store

00:39:45.320 and I can assure you

00:39:46.420 there were no bugs there

00:39:47.860 no these are more

00:39:48.840 five star

00:39:49.640 Michelin

00:39:50.320 reviewed

00:39:51.100 kind of people

00:39:51.920 you know what

00:39:53.100 I hated how deceptive

00:39:54.520 these bugs were

00:39:55.620 I mean I was thinking about

00:39:56.640 if someone wants to eat bugs

00:39:58.060 I suppose

00:39:59.380 who am I to say

00:40:00.280 don't

00:40:00.820 I mean

00:40:01.160 we live in a society

00:40:02.540 where there's a lot

00:40:03.300 of awful things

00:40:04.560 that people can choose

00:40:05.420 to do

00:40:05.880 but are you really

00:40:07.280 choosing to eat the bugs

00:40:08.520 if it's kept hidden

00:40:09.920 from you

00:40:10.360 because it's not labeled

00:40:11.460 Diane Mallon says

00:40:13.880 how people queue

00:40:14.840 for compliance

00:40:15.640 will never cease

00:40:16.380 to amaze me

00:40:17.160 well while I was

00:40:18.300 talking to the bug guy

00:40:19.500 who

00:40:20.000 you have to admit

00:40:20.820 he was pretty friendly

00:40:21.680 and he

00:40:22.380 he really did answer

00:40:23.960 all of my questions

00:40:24.900 to the best of his ability

00:40:26.000 I didn't count

00:40:28.000 but I think there was

00:40:28.920 now that I think about

00:40:30.620 about seven or eight people

00:40:31.680 who came by

00:40:32.400 for those

00:40:32.980 energy bars

00:40:34.420 the Sikh guy

00:40:35.560 didn't hear it

00:40:36.940 when I said

00:40:37.720 that's an insect

00:40:38.700 bar

00:40:39.720 he said

00:40:40.140 I don't want to do it

00:40:41.020 but there was this group

00:40:42.040 of young people

00:40:42.660 and I didn't know

00:40:43.460 if they understood it

00:40:44.740 so I

00:40:45.140 because they had

00:40:46.180 a different language

00:40:46.880 I kept saying

00:40:47.440 insects

00:40:47.940 insects

00:40:48.300 I don't know

00:40:49.500 if they all

00:40:50.200 understood it

00:40:51.000 but some certainly did

00:40:52.180 maybe they think

00:40:53.220 of it as some sort

00:40:53.920 of a novelty

00:40:54.580 but I was surprised

00:40:56.260 by how many people

00:40:57.580 if they understood it

00:40:59.700 were happy to eat

00:41:01.440 the bugs

00:41:01.860 maybe young people

00:41:02.660 would just eat

00:41:03.100 free anything

00:41:03.740 I don't know

00:41:05.320 Tilly Sanders

00:41:06.820 said

00:41:07.240 16 grams of sugar

00:41:08.460 would mask any taste

00:41:09.600 and cancel any

00:41:10.380 potential goodness

00:41:11.280 guaranteed

00:41:12.880 none of those

00:41:13.440 bigwigs are eating 1.00

00:41:14.180 worms at Davos

00:41:15.000 great interview

00:41:15.940 Ezra

00:41:16.340 you know

00:41:18.080 I'm

00:41:18.520 I am very

00:41:19.740 aggressively

00:41:20.500 against bugs

00:41:21.520 but I wasn't

00:41:22.560 going to take it out

00:41:23.600 so to speak

00:41:24.260 on some guy

00:41:25.540 who was obviously

00:41:26.280 a true believer

00:41:27.040 but he was a really

00:41:28.000 nice guy

00:41:28.460 he wasn't running

00:41:29.040 away from me

00:41:29.660 he wasn't doing

00:41:30.860 a Larry Fink

00:41:31.700 you saw that

00:41:32.320 where Larry Fink

00:41:33.220 has his bodyguard

00:41:33.960 shove us 0.57

00:41:34.540 and take photos

00:41:35.160 of us

00:41:35.480 the guy was a nice

00:41:36.840 guy

00:41:37.220 I just don't think

00:41:38.680 his arguments

00:41:39.180 are compelling

00:41:39.780 I want to learn

00:41:40.420 a little bit more

00:41:40.960 about who's behind

00:41:41.700 this Pumbaa

00:41:42.840 I thought it was

00:41:43.960 deceptive

00:41:44.660 that the insect

00:41:45.700 nature of this

00:41:46.540 bar was

00:41:47.140 really

00:41:47.880 inconspicuous

00:41:49.940 no one

00:41:50.880 no one knows

00:41:52.160 that Latin

00:41:52.800 phrase for

00:41:53.700 for bugs

00:41:54.980 I can't even

00:41:56.740 remember it

00:41:57.180 and I said it

00:41:57.660 like 10 times

00:41:58.520 they really

00:42:00.140 are hiding it

00:42:01.320 it was a very

00:42:02.460 interesting trip

00:42:03.100 but I think we

00:42:03.640 might even still

00:42:04.140 be putting up

00:42:04.620 more WEF

00:42:06.480 report videos

00:42:07.140 even today

00:42:07.660 there was so

00:42:08.120 much stuff

00:42:08.740 in fact I know

00:42:09.820 we just put up

00:42:10.320 a new one today

00:42:10.820 about McKinsey

00:42:11.640 so be sure

00:42:12.540 to go back

00:42:12.920 to WEF

00:42:13.760 reports.com

00:42:15.320 and yeah

00:42:15.900 I'd like your

00:42:16.720 opinion on that

00:42:18.260 I mean it's a

00:42:18.780 very expensive

00:42:19.380 project to take

00:42:20.220 six people

00:42:20.800 three journalists

00:42:21.920 Avi, Sheila

00:42:22.720 and me

00:42:23.120 and each of us

00:42:24.060 has a videographer

00:42:24.840 that is a

00:42:25.360 cameraman who's

00:42:25.980 also an editor

00:42:26.720 Benji, Ed

00:42:28.280 and Lincoln

00:42:29.100 so six of us

00:42:30.280 have to fly to

00:42:31.160 Zurich and then

00:42:31.840 take the train

00:42:32.540 up to

00:42:33.020 not to Davos

00:42:34.180 because it's all

00:42:34.760 sold out

00:42:35.220 but to Closters

00:42:36.000 and to go back

00:42:36.660 you know what

00:42:37.940 I hate to say

00:42:38.740 it's close to

00:42:39.420 $50,000

00:42:40.240 on any other

00:42:42.320 week of the year

00:42:43.060 it would be

00:42:43.640 a quarter of

00:42:44.900 that price

00:42:45.440 but that week

00:42:46.820 it's astonishing

00:42:48.940 they quadruple

00:42:50.080 the price

00:42:50.500 or multiply

00:42:51.520 by 10

00:42:52.080 the price

00:42:52.980 of what they

00:42:53.440 can get

00:42:53.780 because everyone

00:42:54.360 wants to be

00:42:54.960 there

00:42:55.220 anyhow

00:42:56.320 I think it's

00:42:57.240 important that

00:42:57.720 we're there

00:42:58.000 and the fact

00:42:58.360 that really

00:42:58.700 no other

00:42:59.160 journalists

00:42:59.620 are

00:43:00.080 other than

00:43:00.600 the regime

00:43:01.080 journalists

00:43:01.500 I think

00:43:02.000 it's important

00:43:02.560 well that's

00:43:03.600 our show
