Rebel News Podcast - EZRA LEVANT ｜ Under Trudeau, half of Canada's military equipment is 'unserviceable'

00:00:00.000 Hello, my friends. Incredible news from an incredible source. Only about half of Canada's

00:00:05.540 military equipment even works. Only about half of Canada's soldiers could respond to any demand on

00:00:11.680 them. And it's from the CBC telling you this, so you know it's got to be even worse. I'll show you

00:00:17.780 the facts and I'll contrast it with Trudeau's big promises of sending military assets to Ukraine,

00:00:23.840 almost none of which he's actually done. I'd like to show you a photo of a tank and I really want you

00:00:31.220 to see it because it tells the story. To do that, you need the video version of this podcast. Just

00:00:36.460 go to rebelnewsplus.com, click subscribe. It's eight bucks a month, which gives you the video

00:00:41.800 version every day. And just as important, it helps keep Rebel News strong because we get no money from

00:00:47.240 Trudeau or the government and it shows. That's rebelnewsplus.com. All right, here's today's podcast.

00:00:53.840 Tonight, a new report says that half of Canada's military equipment doesn't even work.

00:01:14.440 It's March 7th and this is the Ezra LeVance Show.

00:01:16.820 You fighting for freedom! Shame on you, you censorious bug!

00:01:23.840 I showed you the other day the headline in the Toronto Star where the Trudeau government was

00:01:37.080 floating the idea of sending Canadian troops into Ukraine itself. I think it's the worst possible

00:01:42.300 idea from a government with a lot of bad ideas. I mean, if we had a bad idea laboratory, the only

00:01:48.840 thing I think that could engineer to be worse would be if Trudeau wanted to send Canadian troops into

00:01:55.300 Gaza, he'd probably want them to defend Hamas. I'll probably suggest that pretty soon considering the 0.99

00:02:01.520 path he's on. But as I said the other day, I really don't know what Canada would do other than being a

00:02:08.320 PR backdrop for Trudeau or Chrystia Freeland's next photo op in Kiev. I mean, Trudeau makes so many

00:02:15.020 promises to Ukraine about sending weapons, but I'm really not certain if any of them have actually

00:02:21.940 physically been sent over and used. Trudeau made a big show about sending over an air defense system

00:02:29.780 costs almost half a billion dollars. Let me read the CBC story on that, though, so you know the reality

00:02:36.540 must be a lot worse if this is what the CBC says. Ukraine's president says getting air defense systems

00:02:43.600 onto the battlefield is the top priority in the new year, but the system Canada promised a year ago

00:02:49.300 still hasn't been delivered, and it's not clear when it will be. By the way, Canada doesn't even have

00:02:56.560 that air defense missile system. Basically, Trudeau promised to buy one to be made and then to be

00:03:03.620 sent directly to Ukraine from the factory, I guess, but one of the companies that makes them says they

00:03:08.960 don't even have a contract yet. Here's another promise from Trudeau, and the CBC reports this one

00:03:14.440 credulously. Let me read this one to you. Canada donating hundreds of drones to help war effort in

00:03:21.860 Ukraine. I'll read a little bit. The federal government is donating more than 800 drones to help the

00:03:26.480 war effort in Ukraine. Defense Minister Bill Blair announced Monday. Now, you can probably guess the

00:03:31.500 punchline here. Do you think that Canada even has 800 military drones to donate? No, we do not.

00:03:38.880 I don't know if we have eight. Again, Trudeau is promising that he'll find a company to make them,

00:03:44.900 sign a contract with that company, pay the company. The company will do the contract, and they'll send the

00:03:49.440 drones to Ukraine and be used. Do you see a pattern here? Do you think that's actually going to happen?

00:03:53.340 You know Trudeau promised to send four of our Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine, right? Leopard 2 is the

00:03:59.640 name of the tanks that are made in Germany. I think that only a single one has been sent.

00:04:05.400 Here's a picture of it. I love that caption of the photo. The first Canadian Leopard 2 main battle tank

00:04:10.940 donated to Ukraine arrives by air transport in Poland. So it's a single tank, and I don't know if

00:04:18.620 it's even made it into Ukraine from Poland. And that's it. Again, just photo ops. The Globe and

00:04:26.220 Mail got the photo. They were really excited. I don't know if Canada has four working Leopard 2

00:04:32.080 battle tanks that are in suitable condition to send. I really don't. I'm not sure if they're up to

00:04:38.100 standard. Other countries have been sending in Leopard 2 battle tanks, and they've had some limited

00:04:44.040 success. Here's some images of Russians attacking the Leopard 2 tanks. So they're not a magic solution

00:04:51.760 to stopping the Russians. Now those tanks are from the 80s, so it's sort of 50-year-old, 40-year-old

00:04:57.400 technology that actually makes them a lot younger than other Canadian military equipment. I honestly

00:05:02.460 don't know if Canada's Leopard 2 tanks have up-to-date computer systems, battle communication systems,

00:05:10.820 aiming systems. Do you think they do? Do you think the Canadian Armed Forces has updated those tanks

00:05:17.540 made in the 1980s to be high-tech to work with other NATO allies in the 2020s? What's your theory about

00:05:27.280 what appears to be just a single tank sent to Ukraine, despite all the press conferences? What do you think's

00:05:33.200 going on? Well, here's another CBC story, and I'm sorry for using such an unreliable source, but it's sort of

00:05:39.660 like how I like to use abacus polls to bring the news about how unpopular Justin Trudeau is, because

00:05:45.700 abacus was created by one of Trudeau's close political allies in the Liberal Party. So if they say things

00:05:51.100 are bad for Trudeau, you can probably take it to the bank, as opposed to a conservative pollster saying

00:05:56.340 the same thing. By the way, I can't name a conservative pollster off the top of my head, but I think you get

00:06:00.900 the point. So here's the CBC today. Here's their story. State of Canadian Armed Forces combat readiness

00:06:08.840 growing worse, government report warns. Department of National Defense report also says almost half of

00:06:15.620 military's equipment is unserviceable. Oh, you don't say. Let me read a few paragraphs. Only 58% of the

00:06:24.160 Canadian Armed Forces would be able to respond if called upon in a crisis by NATO allies right now,

00:06:29.060 and almost half the military's equipment is considered unavailable and unserviceable,

00:06:34.120 says a recent Internal Department of National Defense presentation obtained by CBC News.

00:06:40.440 The presentation, which touches on everything from readiness and equipment to recruiting and

00:06:45.020 ammunition supplies, is dated December 31st, 2023. It's the latest comprehensive snapshot of the state

00:06:51.540 of the military. The overview paints an alarming picture of the force's decline in readiness,

00:06:56.240 one that's even worse than the figures presented in last year's federal budget documents.

00:07:01.580 Quote, in an increasingly dangerous world where demand for the CAF is increasing, our readiness is

00:07:06.680 decreasing, said the document. The issue of military readiness has preoccupied the House of Commons

00:07:11.800 Defense Committee. The committee held a series of closed-door meetings last year where MPs could

00:07:16.740 discuss sensitive information with top military commanders. Now, I'm not sure if you can see these pie

00:07:22.460 charts, the CBC showed, but 55% of our air force is not working. No wonder we don't hold that NATO 0.98

00:07:32.200 exercise in Cold Lake, Alberta anymore. We used to hold it every year. It was called Maple Flag. That's a great

00:07:40.380 name for it. It's sort of like the top gun for NATO in Alberta. All the NATO air forces would come

00:07:46.680 together to practice with each other, practice working together in Alberta. It's pretty cool.

00:07:52.200 Then Trudeau said, I am not kidding. They said they're shutting it down to make it better.

00:07:58.380 Here's a press release from about five years ago. The Royal Canadian Air Force has decided to not

00:08:03.540 conduct exercise Maple Flag in 2019. The RCAF will use the opportunity to refocus its resources,

00:08:11.180 to update the exercise's mandate, and to modernize the infrastructure used during the exercise.

00:08:18.920 The RCAF will thereby ensure that Maple Flag remains focused and relevant to fighter operations

00:08:24.740 in a dynamic and fluid battle space now and into the future. In past years, exercise Maple Flag took

00:08:32.320 place at fourth wing Cold Lake, Alberta, in the June time period. I think that was the last of it. I don't

00:08:40.020 think they've ever come back. You know, there's a weird talking point out there among the left and

00:08:45.500 the media and the left media that Donald Trump wants to end NATO. It's so weird. And of course,

00:08:51.420 it's part of the conspiracy theory. Donald Trump is a Russian asset, which was completely debunked by a

00:08:56.880 huge Democrat investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. I don't know if you remember that,

00:09:02.000 but the CBC and other regime media in both countries still claim that Trump is for Russia,

00:09:07.780 which is odd because Putin didn't dare invade Ukraine when Trump was president. But he did both

00:09:13.580 before when Obama was president and after now that Biden is president. So it sort of tells me who

00:09:19.600 Putin likes to have as president. But do you remember this when Donald Trump went to Europe

00:09:24.640 as president to scold NATO countries for not spending enough on their defense? Remember this?

00:09:31.920 I have been very, very direct with Secretary Stoltenberg and members of the alliance in saying

00:09:41.720 that NATO members must finally contribute their fair share and meet their financial obligations.

00:09:51.600 But 23 of the 28 member nations are still not paying what they should be paying and what they're

00:09:59.480 supposed to be paying for their defense. This is not fair to the people and taxpayers of the United

00:10:07.400 States. And many of these nations owe massive amounts of money from past years and not paying

00:10:15.140 in those past years. Over the last eight years, the United States spent more on defense than all other

00:10:23.380 NATO countries combined. If all NATO members had spent just two percent of their GDP on defense last year,

00:10:32.340 we would have had another one hundred and nineteen billion dollars for our collective defense

00:10:39.600 and for the financing of additional NATO reserves. And you remember this when Trump met with Trudeau

00:10:49.080 and scolded Trudeau on not spending enough. And Trudeau tried to lie about it, but Trump knew the facts

00:10:55.620 and corrected him. That was incredible.

00:10:58.040 Canada does not meet the two percent standard. Should it have a plan to meet the two percent standard?

00:11:03.220 Well, we'll put them on a payment plan, you know? We'll put Canada on a payment plan, right? I'm sure

00:11:07.400 the prime minister would love that. What are you at? What is your number?

00:11:10.760 The number we talked about is 70 percent increase over these past years, including and for the coming

00:11:18.480 years, including significant investments in our fighter jets, significant investments in our naval

00:11:25.740 fleets. We are increasing significantly our defense spending from previous governments that cut it.

00:11:31.880 Okay. Where are you now in terms of your number?

00:11:35.020 We're at 1.35. 1.3. 1.4. 1.4. And continuing to move on.

00:11:43.180 They're getting there. They know it's important to do that. And their economy is doing well.

00:11:49.160 They'll get there quickly, I think.

00:11:50.360 And do you remember when Trump scolded Europe for the folly of buying their energy from Vladimir Putin?

00:11:55.960 Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will be getting from 60 to 70 percent of their 0.99

00:12:01.360 energy from Russia and a new pipeline. And you tell me if that's appropriate, because I think it's not.

00:12:07.800 And I think it's a very bad thing for NATO. And I don't think it should have happened.

00:12:11.980 And I think we have to talk to Germany about it. We have to talk about the billions and billions of

00:12:17.200 dollars that's being paid to the country that we're supposed to be protecting you against.

00:12:22.000 You know, everybody's, everybody's talking about it all over the world. They'll say, well,

00:12:26.340 wait a minute, we're supposed to be protecting you from Russia. But why are you paying billions of 0.83

00:12:31.220 dollars to Russia for energy? Why are countries in NATO, namely Germany, having a large percentage of

00:12:39.240 the energy needs paid, you know, to Russia and taken care of by Russia? Now, if you look at it,

00:12:45.880 Germany is a captive of Russia because they supply, they get rid of their coal plants. They get rid 0.99

00:12:51.260 of their nuclear. They're getting so much of the oil and gas from Russia. Yeah, I know who's the

00:12:58.520 better ally. And his name was Donald Trump. So Trudeau talks about supporting the Ukrainian

00:13:03.860 military, but he can't really, because we have nothing to send them other than press releases.

00:13:10.000 Trudeau doesn't support our own military because like his father, Pierre Trudeau, he hates our military.

00:13:13.820 I think the only armed force that Trudeau supports and funds lavishly is Hamas.

00:13:22.460 Stay with us for more.

00:13:34.880 There are some things that could use a gender analysis, I'm sure. I can't really think of

00:13:40.760 them offhand. I mean, a lot of the go girl projects have been achieved. If you look at universities, 0.99

00:13:47.940 for example, more than 50 percent of law schools, more than 50 percent of med schools are women. In 1.00

00:13:55.680 fact, in many different departments, women make up 70 percent of the academy. Boys are just not going 1.00

00:14:02.920 to universities anymore, maybe because they're too woke or maybe because they want to get a real job

00:14:07.620 in a trade. There's no level of this government that hasn't had women in it, from leading the Senate 1.00

00:14:14.360 to being a prime minister to being premiers. It's no longer remarkable. I think that in many cases,

00:14:21.140 the battle has been won. But of course, a lot of these battles are self-perpetuating. Instead of

00:14:27.760 declaring victory, they have to continue to build an empire. I thought of that when Justin Trudeau

00:14:33.520 announced gender analysis for pipeline projects, for oil sands. And I thought, what on earth

00:14:40.020 is a gender analysis in oil and gas? What's that got to do with it? And of course, would they apply 1.00

00:14:45.800 that gender analysis for oil imports from, say, Saudi Arabia, where women simply aren't allowed to work

00:14:52.580 in oil and gas? Of course not. But I think the craziest deployment of the gender lens that Justin 0.99

00:15:00.680 Trudeau applies to pretty much anything and everything he wants to politicize is an announcement

00:15:05.820 that Ukraine will receive money from Justin Trudeau to clear landmines, which is a good idea. 1.00

00:15:14.080 But only if it is done in a gender-sensitive manner. If you think I'm kidding, well, listen to our next 0.97

00:15:22.020 guest. Our friend Lauren Gunter has written a column about this crazy idea called Trudeau's Virtue

00:15:27.680 Signaling Aid Pledge, not helpful to Ukraine. And Lauren joins us now via Skype from Edmonton.

00:15:35.000 Lauren, when I first saw that, I swear I had to click through to the original document because I

00:15:39.660 thought it was a spoof. I thought it was like the Babylon Bee or the Onion just making fun of Trudeau.

00:15:45.960 But he really did say he's going to give millions of dollars to Ukraine, but only if they

00:15:51.500 clear landmines in a gender-sensitive way. Yeah, exactly. It said that you must make sure that the 1.00

00:15:59.440 mine-clearing battalions are gender-inclusive. Now, they didn't have any specific roles. It doesn't

00:16:07.360 say 50-50, whatever. But who at Global Affairs or National Defense is sitting around thinking this

00:16:15.500 stuff up? Like, do they look at the Bahrainian mine-clearing unit and say, oh, there are no

00:16:24.100 obvious women on this list. Well, therefore, we can't include them in any future treaties because 1.00

00:16:29.580 they don't have gender-inclusive minesweeping. Like, what difference does it make? They're in the 0.79

00:16:35.160 middle of a war. They're not in the middle of downtown Toronto where, you know, you can cancel and

00:16:41.500 woke people to death on social media. They're in the middle of a real war. Give them money to

00:16:47.820 clear mines. I mean, one of the things that keeps people who've been displaced in Ukraine from coming

00:16:53.740 back to their communities is the fact that the Russians very often, when they are forced to

00:16:58.900 withdraw, plant all sorts of mines all over the town and the farm fields around it to render them

00:17:06.340 useless to people. So, demining is a very big part of Ukraine's recovery. And what we've decided is 0.88

00:17:14.760 we're going to impose our values, peace, enduring peace in an ultra-liberal country, very woe. We're

00:17:23.580 going to try to impose our values on a war zone. I mean, this is not the only thing. They want the 0.55

00:17:29.620 Ukrainian economy to be decarbonized. They want them to have a carbon tax. You might remember that when

00:17:36.260 Pierre Polyev initially objected to giving this aid package to Ukraine, of course, everybody on the

00:17:44.960 liberal side in the media, the CBC and the Star and the Global Man, oh, Polyev thinks that he doesn't

00:17:52.380 support the Ukrainians. He must be a Putin fan. Oh, my goodness. But it was because they were reading 0.82

00:17:58.200 this document and they were saying, you have to appoint internet censors. If you want our aid for

00:18:04.540 communications, you have to do what they're trying to do in Canada, which is people in charge of

00:18:11.380 looking at the internet to make sure there's no misinformation. But the worst one for me was this

00:18:18.340 $4 million for demining that was incumbent on there being women encouraged to join the hurt locker, 1.00

00:18:27.400 as it were. Yeah. You know, you quote the exact phrase from the announcement. I just want people

00:18:33.800 to know that you're not making this up. I did check the underlying document. The aid is contingent on,

00:18:40.240 quote, promoting gender transformative mind action. Like, it's like they were just throwing darts

00:18:49.860 at a bulletin board that had, you know, transformative gender action. Like, they probably 0.99

00:18:58.320 used gender transformative climate action. Like, that doesn't mean anything either.

00:19:02.880 Undoubtedly. Undoubtedly.

00:19:03.320 And I'm sure there's some climate change parts of this. In fact, you mentioned that the carbon tax,

00:19:08.760 you know, I love watching some of Jordan Peterson's debates on gender stuff because he,

00:19:14.600 you know, that very famous interview he did with Kathy Newman on Channel 4, where talking about

00:19:21.460 inequality of men and women in the world. And he says, yes, there are more men in positions of

00:19:26.200 economic power. There's also more men in the worst jobs in the world, like, you know, very dangerous

00:19:33.920 jobs from, you know, people who go to fish at sea for a month at a time, or people who, you know,

00:19:40.840 let me give you an example. I mean, construction, it's a more dangerous job. Mining, it's a more

00:19:46.860 dangerous job. I recently saw a video of people doing welding in deep sea drilling rigs. These are

00:19:57.740 very dangerous jobs. You know, stringing the high tension, high voltage power lines. Those are very

00:20:05.280 dangerous jobs. And if you could show me, and if you could show me that the company's responsible

00:20:10.060 for that, or the government's responsible for that, we're deliberately barring women, I would say, 1.00

00:20:15.360 let's have a case for that. Let's take them to court. But the point is, I think the difference

00:20:22.620 between small L liberalism and Marxism is that in small L liberalism, you say there's opportunity for

00:20:29.700 all, and you then punish people who don't give the proper opportunity to everyone, regardless of

00:20:37.480 gender, race, whatever. Marxism is, we cannot know that there isn't discrimination unless there are

00:20:45.840 equal numbers of all groups in final product. And that gets away from merit. I don't care if every

00:20:55.940 woman who's digging out, every person who's digging out mines in Ukraine is a woman. I don't want us 1.00

00:21:02.020 not then to have a rule that, well, you have to get more men involved. I don't care.

00:21:07.140 It's so insane. But you know what? I don't think there's a single woman, like I would be, I mean,

00:21:12.700 clearing mines, it's got to be one of the worst jobs in the world. And thank God there are men who

00:21:16.640 are willing to do it to keep us safe and free. And I imagine, I don't know a lot about it, but you're

00:21:22.300 wearing heavy protective clothing in case, God forbid, a mine explodes. So you have to be strong

00:21:27.040 enough to probably wear a hundred pounds worth of protection. Like that is a dangerous job. I would

00:21:34.500 be surprised if there is, if there are 10 women in the entire world who, and I don't think they want 1.00

00:21:40.920 to. I saw an interview. I Googled up an interview or YouTubed up an interview, looked to see whether

00:21:48.980 there were any women deminers. And I found an interview with one from the US Army. But it would 0.98

00:21:58.580 be very rare. But the point is not whether it's rare or not. It's whether it's allowed or not. And

00:22:03.420 if it's not allowed, then you have a problem. But if it's allowed and it's rare, that's nobody's

00:22:08.840 business. It's just madness that this is, like, I think it makes a mockery of Trudeau's supposed

00:22:14.920 support for Ukraine. I just did a monologue where I pointed out that we promised them 800 drones.

00:22:21.200 We don't have 800 drones. So we have to order them and maybe they'll be delivered. We promised

00:22:25.940 them a bunch of Leopard 2 tanks. I think only one has been delivered. And I don't know if it's

00:22:30.880 being deployed. We promised them a $400 million air defense system. It hasn't even been built yet.

00:22:37.820 It's not like we had it. So I think that Justin Trudeau is using Ukrainians as basically a cinema

00:22:45.740 backdrop for him to virtue signal, pandering to Ukrainian-Canadian voters. I don't think 0.52

00:22:52.940 most of his promises have actually been kept. And what a bizarre promise. This is some strange

00:22:58.560 feminist thing. It's not helping Ukraine, Lord. 1.00

00:23:01.280 No. And, you know, he thinks he's pandering to Ukrainian voters in Canada. But if they find out

00:23:08.600 about the strings that have been attached to this aid project, they're not going to go for that.

00:23:12.820 Because what they need to see is real Canadian aid going to Ukraine fast enough to actually push Putin

00:23:21.960 back. And, you know, I know a lot of people in the West have lost faith or lost interest in the

00:23:28.320 Ukraine war because it hasn't gone as quickly or as well as we had thought it might. I think it has

00:23:34.640 gone very much better than it could have. I mean, the last good estimates I saw were up to 400,000

00:23:42.800 Russian soldiers had died. The better estimates were somewhere between 66,000 and 85,000. That's

00:23:50.740 about four or five times as many as they lost in Afghanistan in the 80s. So this has been a real

00:23:57.880 blow to the Russians. It's going to be slow. But we know from past history that what Russians do is 1.00

00:24:03.400 they throw, they have no value for their own citizens' lives and said they will throw as many

00:24:09.380 people as they can at any war situation. And so the West, more than ever, has to stand up with

00:24:15.380 Ukraine. And if he's not getting drones to Ukraine because we don't have the drones to send them and

00:24:21.500 we have, I think we only had four tanks that were movable. And we sent them one, but I don't think we

00:24:30.000 sent the repair kit for how to actually fix the thing and make it work. So you're right. All of his aid

00:24:38.160 promises to Ukraine have been very hollow. You know, I'm less bullish on this war than you are.

00:24:44.460 In fact, twice I've visited the Ukrainian pavilion at the World Economic Forum. And twice I've spent

00:24:50.820 quite a bit of time there because I want to make sure I hear the Ukrainian story very clearly. And

00:24:56.900 I don't doubt what I've heard there. The emphasis that they have had at this pavilion is the civilian 0.97

00:25:03.880 losses and what they call atrocities. And I'm sure both are true. And after going through the whole

00:25:11.460 Ukrainian messaging experience, which some would call propaganda, but I went through it and I spoke

00:25:16.760 to the curator there and I spent a lot of time there and I talked to their, you know, their

00:25:20.720 international law lawyers. I leave there not enthusiastic for the war, Lauren, but desperate for

00:25:27.280 peace because, you know, the meat grinder of both sides. I heard that the average age of the Ukrainian 1.00

00:25:32.840 army now is 43. They have, they have either lost the men who were refugees or they've been killed in

00:25:41.880 battle. And I just wish that there was a diplomatic solution because I mean, even if what you're saying

00:25:51.060 is correct, that this has been a devastating loss for Russia, how's that a win for the world? Because 1.00

00:25:56.260 it's Ukrainian men who are fighting. And I hate to say there actually are Ukrainian women who are being

00:26:01.820 sent into the meat grinder too. Absolutely. But, but let's, let's sort of draw a parallel here with,

00:26:08.760 with Gaza. You know, I am really sorry that Ukraine has had as many losses as it has. I am

00:26:15.220 sorry that the Palestinian innocents are being killed, but I understand that both of those wars have got to

00:26:24.700 be fought to the conclusion because the West, as much as those two combatant countries need wins,

00:26:31.460 the West needs wins in both of those battles. And maybe a diplomatic solution could be a win. You,

00:26:37.840 you, you stop Russia where it's at now and it has to go back home and lick its wounds for a decade. 0.98

00:26:42.640 That might be the best that, that, that comes out of this. But, but I don't see us. I, I, what I think

00:26:49.640 Trudeau is really doing is trying hard not to give aid to Ukraine without looking like he's not giving

00:26:55.580 aid to Ukraine. Yeah. Well, I, I find the whole thing deeply sad. And, uh, you know, I, I think I,

00:27:03.280 I follow professor John Mearsheimer of, uh, of Chicago, who, by the way, I'm, you know, 30 years ago,

00:27:10.680 he was warning Ukraine not to give up its nukes. It said, once you give up your nukes, you're just in 0.92

00:27:16.280 the hands of the big powers. I don't know if you recall, but after the Berlin Wall fell and the

00:27:21.840 Soviet Union disintegrated, Ukraine, because it was a large Soviet socialist republic, it actually

00:27:27.860 had a lot of the Soviet Union's nuclear weapons. And there was an agreement signed by America and

00:27:34.420 the Brits and Russia that, Hey, if you give up your nukes, Ukraine will protect you. I think it was 0.75

00:27:39.100 called the Budapest Memorandum. Well, Ukraine gave up its nukes and that was the worst decision

00:27:43.980 that never made. It would be like giving up, you know, a homeowner, giving up your, your guns.

00:27:48.060 You're never going to get them back. Yeah. And it was, you know, it was unique because I mean,

00:27:53.360 there were lots of the, the, the, the Soviet republics in central Asia that had huge numbers

00:28:00.020 of Russian missiles, but they were all operated and protected by Russians. They'd moved Russians into 0.98

00:28:08.100 those. Like in Ukraine, the Russians had let the Ukrainians mostly for the most part, actually take

00:28:14.360 care of those missiles. So yeah, it was, it was unfortunate that they moved them up.

00:28:17.480 And, and Mearsheimer. So the reason I mentioned that is that Mearsheimer was for Ukraine 30 years

00:28:23.180 ago. He's not some Putin shill. And he laments that, I mean, we're, we're getting off topic. We

00:28:30.380 wanted to talk about the bizarre feminization of foreign aid, but I, I don't even know what the path

00:28:36.320 forward is because a big chunk of Ukraine has already been devoured by Russia. And I don't 0.95

00:28:41.400 know if it'll ever be extracted from it. And, you know, I'm terrified when, I don't know if you saw

00:28:47.920 the news, but a week ago, Bill Blair was mooting, brooting the idea of sending Canadian troops into

00:28:54.320 Ukraine proper for non-combat roles, nonetheless, but still I, I, I am worried about an escalation. I,

00:29:00.940 do you think I'm, do you think I'm too much of a nervous Nelly? Do you think it, it's too much of a,

00:29:06.020 Putinist response to say, I'm worried about sending Western troops into Ukraine?

00:29:10.860 No, I absolutely should be worried about that, but we should make that decision based on what our

00:29:17.320 needs are for this conflict. And if we need to protect Ukraine to preserve democracy in Central

00:29:27.420 and Eastern Europe from being devoured by the Russians, then maybe there is a non-combat role

00:29:32.900 for our people there. But we couldn't even send peacekeepers to Haiti when the Americans asked

00:29:39.020 us to do that about 18 months ago. I think it's all BS. I think Trudeau is just all talk. He's gutted

00:29:44.460 the military. And I think, frankly, in his own way, he's abusing Ukrainian Canadians by giving them false

00:29:51.860 promises. And he's trying to score points off the general hatred of Putin. He wants to be on the front

00:29:58.300 line of denouncing Putin, but he actually doesn't, hasn't lifted a finger in reality.

00:30:02.680 We have a hundred Canadians in Poland training Ukrainians in this war. And these are the guys

00:30:10.440 who, when they got sent over there, were not sent a cook. You might remember this story. They were not

00:30:15.720 sent a cook with them. And they were told, just charge your meals at local restaurants, and we will

00:30:21.900 reimburse you. And six months later, they drained all their savings. They were getting their friends

00:30:26.080 and family back home to send them money because DND had not paid them back. They were buying their

00:30:32.800 own meal in Poland. So what would Blair think he was going to do with people sending them directly

00:30:38.340 to Ukraine? It's just ludicrous, this government.

00:30:41.700 Yeah. Well, I mean, I think the fact that he's calling for gender-neutral mind clearing 0.93

00:30:45.220 shows you it's not actually about mind clearing. And we're laughing. You're right. I mean,

00:30:49.140 minds are one of the saddest things in the world because not only are civilians prone to stepping on them,

00:30:54.820 but it casts a shadow decades after the war is done. The minds are still active. I mean,

00:31:02.100 believe it or not, minds are still being found, unexploded ordnance still being found from World

00:31:06.760 War II, and even the occasional World War on the shell, a hundred years after. So it really is,

00:31:13.620 you know, mind clearing is of interest to everyone, women and men, civilian and military alike.

00:31:19.240 But this bizarre requirement that the mind clears be women is just crazy. 0.90

00:31:23.240 Lauren, it's great to catch up with you. And I really appreciate you making your points about

00:31:26.680 the war in Ukraine. I have a, I would even call it a more pacifist

00:31:31.260 point of view, which I don't normally do, but I appreciate you sparring with me on the subject.

00:31:36.660 You bet.

00:31:37.420 All right. There you have it. Lauren Gunter, 0.86

00:31:39.120 his new column is called Trudeau's Virtue Signaling Aid Pledge Not Helpful

00:31:42.720 to Ukraine. And you can read it in post media. Stay with us. More ahead.

00:31:47.720 Hey, I almost forgot to tell you today, Tamara Leach was back in court. I think it was just a virtual 0.99

00:32:02.940 court hearing. But the trial and the prosecution, the endless political prosecution of Tamara Leach was

00:32:09.840 back on. And our friend Robert Krejcik filed this report. So I'll play it for you instead of letters

00:32:15.360 today. Until tomorrow, on behalf of all of us here at Rebel World Headquarters, to you at home,

00:32:19.800 good night. Keep fighting for freedom and take a look at Robert.

00:32:26.360 Robert Krejcik here in Ottawa, Ontario reporting for Rebel News. Want to share a quick update with

00:32:31.680 you folks out there in the dear Rebel News audience. Very short proceedings today. The judge

00:32:37.260 ruling on one motion submitted by the defense. The defense requested an outright preemptive dismissal

00:32:45.200 of a Carter application that's expected to be submitted by the Crown at the end of the trial.

00:32:50.640 Now, I need to explain to you folks out there what is a Carter application and what does the Crown seek

00:32:55.460 to accomplish via its forthcoming submission. A Carter application, if accepted, would allow the

00:33:02.580 application of statements from one defendant to the other. In this specific case, it would allow for

00:33:08.920 statements made by Chris Barber to be attributed to Tamara Leach as evidence. So a Carter application

00:33:15.460 implies a conspiracy between co-defendants. So if the prosecution successfully argues at the end of this

00:33:23.620 trial that both Tamara Leach and Chris Barber conspired towards an unlawful end, then again, evidence that can be

00:33:31.160 used against one defendant can be used against the other. Again, specifically in this case, it means

00:33:35.780 statements made by Barber can be attributed to Tamara Leach as evidence. Now, the defense knows that this

00:33:42.840 application is coming and they preemptively submitted a motion to dismiss the Carter application out of

00:33:48.360 hand to prevent the judge from even considering it. The judge today decided that she wants to see

00:33:54.480 the Carter application upon its submission. So again, like I said, that will be happening at the end of

00:33:59.340 the trial. This was expected. This is not some sort of catastrophic bad news for the defense team,

00:34:04.680 despite their own motion being denied. At the end of the trial, when the prosecution explains and

00:34:11.860 submits its Carter application with all the details and arguments in its favor, the defense will have an

00:34:18.500 opportunity to respond to those arguments. And at that time, the judge can decide whether or not to

00:34:24.580 accept the claims or reject them. So at the end of the day, we can still see a rejection from Justice

00:34:30.620 Perkins McVeigh to deny the Crown's attempt to link the two defendants as co-conspirators in this

00:34:39.320 conspiracy via the Carter application's allegations.

00:34:43.040 So as the judge told us and reminded us again this morning, it's a bit of an unusual application that

00:34:48.100 the Crown is relying on where there's more than one person charged and the Crown is trying to use what

00:34:56.300 one person said against somebody else. So in this case, they're trying to use things that Chris Barber said

00:35:02.220 against Tamara Leach and things that Tamara Leach said against Chris Barber. So there's a particular

00:35:06.860 somewhat convoluted series of steps that the Crown has to go through in order to try and use that evidence

00:35:14.360 against one against the other. So that's essentially what we're dealing with here. So it's basically a three-step process

00:35:21.880 that the judge has to look at. And now as far as today's proceedings, the brief moments that were there,

00:35:27.240 the judge denied a motion from the defense to preemptively dismiss the Carter application prior

00:35:33.300 to its hearing. Is that correct? And if that is right, what's the outcome of that in terms of future

00:35:37.480 proceedings? That's correct. And you put that very well in terms of our application to preemptively

00:35:46.760 dismiss this application. Because as the judge emphasized in her decision a number of times, this is

00:35:50.960 this is not a decision on that application. This is not a decision on whether any of that evidence

00:35:55.960 will be admitted. And even further down the line, this is not evidence that any of the evidence will

00:36:01.960 be used or useful to her in terms of reaching her decision, even if it is ruled admissible.

00:36:07.540 The Crown must prove its claims of this conspiracy existing between the two defendants beyond a reasonable

00:36:14.840 doubt. Isn't that the highest standard of proof or the highest burden required? And does that now

00:36:21.260 apply to the Crown at the end of the trial, given this consideration of the forthcoming Carter

00:36:26.500 application? Exactly. So what it means is now that we will be hearing about this Carter application again

00:36:32.600 at the end of the case. And at that point, the Crown will need to persuade the judge, which she

00:36:36.160 again reminded everybody this morning is at that point going to be a very high burden of proof beyond a reasonable

00:36:41.320 doubt that there in fact was a conspiracy or common unlawful design. And they'll have to establish at least

00:36:49.460 on balance of probabilities that that both Ms. Leach and Mr. Barber were part of whatever specific common

00:36:56.860 unlawful design the judge finds, if any. Basically, at this stage, we were forced to argue that it could not succeed,

00:37:05.320 that there's no basis in law as to why the evidence that's presented could succeed on a Carter

00:37:11.560 application. At the end of the case, we get to argue that it should not succeed. And we say that it does not

00:37:17.640 succeed because there's simply a lack of evidence of a common unlawful design as between Chris Barber and

00:37:27.640 Tamara Leach in light of the evidence that's been heard and any potential evidence that could be heard going forward.

00:37:35.320 We'll see you in the next couple of minutes.

00:37:38.520 We'll see you in the next couple of minutes.
