Rebel News Podcast - ON CAMERA： Ontario Mall Security Beats Up A Mask-Wearing Man

00:00:00.000 Hello, my Rebels. I'm going to take you step-by-step through a video from Newmarket, Ontario,

00:00:04.860 with a man where a man was slammed to the ground in front of his pregnant girlfriend.

00:00:09.180 For what? Was he not wearing a mask? Well, indeed, he was.

00:00:12.620 I'll try and make sense of it and how it's become normalized.

00:00:16.180 That's ahead, but first, let me invite you to become a subscriber to Rebel News Plus.

00:00:20.200 Just eight bucks a month. It's a great deal, I think.

00:00:23.000 Less than Netflix, less than pretty much any of those services.

00:00:25.900 And it's a point of view you just won't get anywhere else.

00:00:28.100 Just go to rebelnews.com and click subscribe.

00:00:32.080 All right, here's today's podcast.

00:00:40.260 Tonight, a mall in Newmarket, Ontario, beats up a man who was wearing a mask.

00:00:55.440 What were they doing? We'll show you the video.

00:00:58.100 Take. It's December 14th, and this is the Ezra Levant Show.

00:01:03.560 Why should others go to jail when you're a biggest carbon consumer I know?

00:01:07.300 There's 8,500 customers here, and you won't give them an answer.

00:01:11.360 The only thing I have to say to the government about why I'm publishing it is because it's my bloody right to do so.

00:01:17.240 Everyone is a journalist these days.

00:01:24.460 I think it's a good thing because we catch a lot more things that maybe authorities wouldn't want to see the light of day.

00:01:33.020 Here's an example.

00:01:33.980 I saw this homemade video report on a smartphone last night on Instagram on some local gossip channel.

00:01:43.040 I thought it was shocking.

00:01:45.020 Take a look.

00:01:45.660 This is exactly what I first saw.

00:01:48.280 You'll see it fresh like I did without any explanation.

00:01:50.740 Hey! Hey! 0.97

00:02:48.920 off of me.

00:02:50.760 Get off me. 0.85

00:02:52.600 Off of me.

00:02:53.600 No.

00:02:54.600 This is so illegal.

00:02:56.560 Move back.

00:02:57.960 Move back what?

00:02:59.640 No. 0.99

00:03:06.480 You guys, this is ridiculous. 0.95

00:03:10.560 Please no. 0.97

00:03:11.980 No.

00:03:12.520 No.

00:03:13.020 My son is wrong.

00:03:14.340 My son is wrong.

00:03:15.900 I'm not going to.

00:03:17.080 I'm not going to.

00:03:17.520 I'm not going to.

00:03:18.660 I'm not going to.

00:03:21.660 They must have stayed home.

00:03:23.200 They must have stayed home.

00:03:27.260 Well, not good.

00:03:40.560 So what exactly was that?

00:03:52.320 Well, it quickly came to light that that was a mall in Newmarket, Ontario, part of the

00:03:57.440 Greater Toronto area, called the Upper Canada Mall.

00:04:00.880 And that man was allegedly being tackled for a mask infraction.

00:04:07.560 And three, then four, then five, then as many as six on one, stomping this man into

00:04:14.440 the ground for no mask.

00:04:16.860 And all I could think of was, wow, not sure if that's an improvement on public health,

00:04:21.600 but that's the name of the law they're enforcing.

00:04:24.320 But soon I saw this next video that showed me the beginning of the altercation.

00:04:31.060 In fact, it captures the exact moment when the stomping began.

00:04:36.060 Again, you'll see that the man in question was recording himself in selfie mode.

00:04:42.940 And three of the security guards were walking behind him.

00:04:47.940 Also with him was his pregnant girlfriend.

00:04:50.940 Here, take a look at that. 0.58

00:04:51.940 No, you got the three stoogees here. 1.00

00:04:58.940 Curly.

00:04:59.940 There's Curly.

00:05:00.940 Curly.

00:05:02.940 Larry.

00:05:03.940 And them all over there.

00:05:06.940 Don't put your hands on me, bro.

00:05:08.940 Don't put your hands on me.

00:05:10.940 Don't put your hands on me.

00:05:12.940 Don't put your hands on me! 1.00

00:05:13.940 Okay.

00:05:14.940 Don't put your hands on me, bro!

00:05:19.940 Hey! 0.99

00:05:20.940 Hey! 0.99

00:05:21.940 Hey! 0.99

00:05:22.940 Who cannot put your hands on him?

00:05:25.940 What are you doing, bro?

00:05:27.940 Stop! 1.00

00:05:28.940 What are you talking about?

00:05:29.940 We're leaving!

00:05:30.940 We're not leaving!

00:05:31.940 Yes, we are!

00:05:32.940 I'm just right straight!

00:05:33.940 Who goes down?

00:05:34.940 What are you talking about?

00:05:36.940 We're leaving!

00:05:37.940 We're not leaving!

00:05:38.940 Yes, we are!

00:05:39.940 I'm just right straight!

00:05:40.940 Go those doors like I told you! 0.91

00:05:44.940 Are you kidding me?!

00:05:45.940 Our exit's right there!

00:05:47.940 Our exit's right there!

00:05:48.940 Get off me! 1.00

00:05:49.940 Get the***! 0.99

00:05:50.940 Do that!

00:05:51.940 Hello!

00:05:52.940 Our exit's right there!

00:05:53.940 Are you good?

00:05:54.940 Stop resisting.

00:05:55.940 Okay, but you didn't have to put your hands on him! 0.99

00:05:59.940 No, he's not! 0.99

00:06:00.940 I have it all on recording, you d***! 0.99

00:06:03.940 Get the***! 0.99

00:06:04.940 Get the***! 0.97

00:06:05.940 Get the***! 0.97

00:06:06.940 Get the***! 0.97

00:06:07.940 Get the***! 0.97

00:06:09.940 Get the***! 0.97

00:06:10.940 I was not! 0.99

00:06:12.360 Get the f***ing! 0.99

00:06:13.240 I'm leaving! 0.99

00:06:14.380 No, you weren't.

00:06:15.200 Our ex is here!

00:06:16.880 You're stopping. 0.91

00:06:17.860 How are we so f***ing? 0.71

00:06:19.380 We're here! 0.77

00:06:20.240 Get back.

00:06:20.740 Get back. 0.98

00:06:21.160 Holy f***ing, I'm pregnant. 0.98

00:06:23.140 This is crazy. 0.99

00:06:24.420 Get the f***ing! 1.00

00:06:25.500 Get off me! 1.00

00:06:27.340 Holy f***ing! 1.00

00:06:28.380 Get the f***ing! 0.99

00:06:29.000 Now it's a little bit different, is it? 0.98

00:06:31.640 The first thing I noticed is that the man who was being frog-marched out of the mall

00:06:36.520 and his wife, they were both wearing masks.

00:06:41.960 They weren't against masks, obviously.

00:06:44.500 They weren't anti-mask activists going to the mall to make a point.

00:06:49.480 Even after they were being kicked out, they were compliant.

00:06:52.740 Maybe they actually believe in masks.

00:06:55.140 Maybe they just didn't want a fight.

00:06:58.480 That one gentleman was swearing at the men behind him.

00:07:02.960 And frankly, these days, I don't blame him.

00:07:04.780 Imagine being invited into a mall, spending your money, you're told to come and go shopping,

00:07:11.420 and then you're being unceremoniously kicked out.

00:07:14.980 Yeah, I can forgive him the odd swear, and you know what, of all the insults to throw at

00:07:20.020 mall cops, calling them Larry, Curly, and Moe, that's not the sharpest barb I've heard.

00:07:26.280 You'll notice how quickly it turned, though.

00:07:29.760 The man was saying, don't touch me.

00:07:32.040 Don't put your hands on me.

00:07:33.200 Don't put your hands on me.

00:07:34.780 He wasn't threatening.

00:07:38.360 He wasn't punching.

00:07:39.740 In fact, he was walking at a fair pace, especially given that his wife was pregnant. 0.91

00:07:44.760 They were walking out of the mall on the demand of the security guards.

00:07:49.140 And then something, like a switch, was flipped in the mind of at least one of the security guards.

00:07:55.740 And they suddenly said, you're under arrest for trespass.

00:08:00.120 And they slammed him down on the ground.

00:08:03.120 Thank God they didn't do that to his pregnant girlfriend. 1.00

00:08:06.120 She picked up the phone, which was still recording, and the rest we saw.

00:08:10.120 So the story's a little bit different, isn't it?

00:08:13.220 Was he really someone tackled for not wearing his mask?

00:08:16.620 It doesn't look like it.

00:08:17.760 He was wearing his mask at the moment he was tackled.

00:08:21.220 Was he tackled because he wouldn't leave the store?

00:08:24.500 No.

00:08:25.280 He was leaving the store.

00:08:26.560 They were marching him out of the store.

00:08:29.020 And he wasn't lollygagging.

00:08:30.700 He wasn't running.

00:08:31.540 But again, going about as fast as you'd expect someone to go, whose girlfriend was heavily pregnant.

00:08:38.240 So what exactly happened?

00:08:40.080 Well, a larger recording and a larger story soon appeared in the regional newspaper.

00:08:46.680 And it's published at YorkRegion.com, a local newspaper.

00:08:50.580 I want to read a few quotes because they identified the man and his girlfriend and some facts.

00:08:57.120 And they have a few quotes here that I think are very interesting.

00:09:00.720 Let me quote from Joshua Walker, the name of the man who was slammed to the ground and who, in fact, is now facing, get this, he is facing charges of assault.

00:09:12.620 Let me ask you again.

00:09:14.240 In either of the clips that I showed you, did he fight back?

00:09:18.600 Looks like a big guy, fairly strong guy.

00:09:21.020 And as you'll learn, he's actually a serving soldier.

00:09:24.800 I think he probably could have thrown a few punches if he wanted to, but he never did, did he?

00:09:30.280 He hollered a bit.

00:09:31.600 He swore a bit.

00:09:32.620 He said, get off me and don't touch me.

00:09:35.100 But he never hit anyone, did he?

00:09:36.920 Yet he's the one charged with assault.

00:09:39.460 I'll read a bit.

00:09:41.160 One hundred percent, I feel I was racially profiled.

00:09:43.840 Joshua Walker, who was black, said the afternoon of December 11th, moments after he was charged by York Regional Police.

00:09:51.980 I don't think it was a racial incident.

00:09:54.660 I think it was a mask incident.

00:09:56.980 I think it was security guards snapping and giving into a violent temptation.

00:10:01.760 I don't think it was a black thing, but I wasn't there.

00:10:03.820 I'm just telling you, I've seen enough security flip out.

00:10:07.180 I don't think it's a race thing, but I wasn't there.

00:10:09.180 Mall spokesperson Adrian Simich said Walker had been belligerent leading up to the altercation with security guards.

00:10:18.360 And York Regional Police Constable Lauren Nicole said a review of all video taken indicates the charges are warranted.

00:10:26.080 Well, I agree that calling the security guards' names is slightly belligerent,

00:10:31.820 but at that point in time, he was being marched out of there already.

00:10:36.180 He was told that he was violating the Trespass Act and he had to get out, and he was complying.

00:10:43.020 So the belligerence itself may be a reason to kick a guy out of a mall,

00:10:48.680 but once he's being kicked out, is that an excuse to stomp him, pound him, throw him to the floor, and, quote, arrest him?

00:10:56.980 I don't know. I haven't practiced the law in a long time, but being belligerent,

00:11:01.640 I don't recall that being in our criminal code.

00:11:03.880 Now, the police weighed in, which I think is odd.

00:11:08.240 Normally, they let their charges do the talking in court, but the cops wanted to join in on this for some reason.

00:11:14.680 I mentioned York Regional Police Constable Lauren Nicole.

00:11:17.060 She said,

00:11:17.400 We learn also from YorkRegion.com that Walker is a corporal in the Queen's Own Rifles Reserves Regiment,

00:11:42.360 and his girlfriend, Samantha Johnson, were eating at the food court in the mall.

00:11:46.640 So I like the guy already, given that he didn't fight back, even though he clearly could have, you know,

00:11:53.340 landed a few blows on the security.

00:11:55.080 I like a guy who's in the military, and I tend to give him a little bit more respect and a little bit more of my time.

00:12:00.240 Again, the newspaper says they were approached, they said they were approached by a security guard

00:12:06.380 who said removing their masks and eating in the food court was not permitted under COVID-19 restrictions.

00:12:13.220 So let me say again what happened.

00:12:15.620 These weren't people walking without a mask.

00:12:18.800 They were sitting down in the food court eating their food without a mask on,

00:12:23.240 which, as far as I know, is the only way to eat food without a mask on.

00:12:29.460 Johnson, that's the girlfriend, said the guards allowed them to walk through the mall

00:12:35.180 rather than having to leave through the closest exit after she told them she is 18 weeks pregnant. 1.00

00:12:41.520 So because they were eating in the food court without a mask on, they were told to get out.

00:12:46.640 They were told they were violating the Trespass Act and they were being injected.

00:12:50.740 So they agreed to walk out.

00:12:52.500 And it being chilly, the guards agreed to let this pregnant woman walk out through the inside. 1.00

00:12:57.960 And that's where we picked up on that second videotape, didn't we?

00:13:03.380 As they are walking on the first floor of the mall towards an exit,

00:13:07.400 Walker is recording the incident on his phone, laughing and making fun of the security guards

00:13:10.980 by calling them the three effing stooges here.

00:13:14.340 Fair enough, but let me read a little bit more.

00:13:16.500 Moments later, there's an altercation with the guards,

00:13:18.740 with Walker repeatedly saying, don't put your hands on me.

00:13:21.600 Look at that passive wording.

00:13:23.960 There is an altercation with the guards.

00:13:27.500 What does that mean, there is an altercation?

00:13:29.980 We know because we saw the footage that Walker was walking and his hand was filming himself talking

00:13:38.060 and the security guards were behind him.

00:13:41.100 At least one of his hands was busy holding the phone.

00:13:44.020 He was facing forward.

00:13:45.360 There were three men behind him and they were all walking.

00:13:49.780 The only other information we have is that Walker said, don't put your hands on me.

00:13:54.340 To go from that to saying there was an altercation,

00:13:57.760 we clearly know the altercation was not started by Walker

00:14:00.760 because he was facing away from the men,

00:14:03.600 walking forward, talking into his camera,

00:14:06.620 and he wasn't even looking at the men.

00:14:08.340 Then suddenly we hear one of the security guards saying,

00:14:10.380 we're arresting you, you're under arrest,

00:14:12.620 and then they slam him down.

00:14:14.260 Look at that passive language, there was an altercation.

00:14:17.760 It's like that old phrase, mistakes were made.

00:14:20.880 It covers up the truth.

00:14:22.220 It doesn't reveal it.

00:14:24.420 A guard tells him he's under arrest for trespassing

00:14:26.640 and security guards tackle him to the ground.

00:14:30.120 I want to take a minute and I want to read to you

00:14:32.040 from the Trespass to Property Act,

00:14:34.120 which is the Toronto Law for Trespass.

00:14:36.540 And I know a little bit about this law

00:14:37.980 because this is the law that David Menzies was charged under

00:14:41.780 for reporting on the fact that Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown

00:14:46.420 was sneaking into a publicly owned hockey arena

00:14:51.300 and playing games while he was banning the children of Brampton from doing so.

00:14:55.960 As you may know, David was given a trespass,

00:14:59.460 he was arrested and given a ticket for trespassing

00:15:02.680 on the sidewalk outside that public property.

00:15:05.440 Obviously, we're appealing that all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary.

00:15:08.980 But let me read to you from the Trespass to Property Act.

00:15:11.400 It's a pretty short law and it's pretty easy to understand.

00:15:14.200 Here, let's just take a look at it now and I'll make my point in a moment.

00:15:18.360 Section 2 says,

00:15:19.720 Every person who is not acting under a right or authority conferred by law

00:15:24.000 and who, Section B,

00:15:26.220 does not leave the premises immediately

00:15:28.600 after he or she is being directed to do so by the occupier of the premises

00:15:32.440 or a person authorized by the occupier is guilty of an offense.

00:15:37.480 So if you're on a property, even if you were invited on it,

00:15:41.320 like a mall, it's a private property, but you're invited on it.

00:15:44.160 The store says, welcome, enter, come on in, spend your money.

00:15:47.920 So you're on the private property as an invited guest.

00:15:51.420 The property has the right to eject you.

00:15:54.040 And if you are told to leave, you do have to leave.

00:15:59.060 But as you saw, they were leaving.

00:16:01.940 You know that because you saw it.

00:16:04.220 You know that because you saw the man and the woman walking out

00:16:08.020 and you heard the explanation that they were just going a certain route

00:16:11.160 because she was pregnant, so they were inside.

00:16:12.980 So they were actually in compliance with the act.

00:16:18.500 If you were invited onto someone's property and they say leave and you leave,

00:16:24.460 you have not broken the Trespass to Property Act.

00:16:28.160 You're complying with it.

00:16:30.100 You don't have to leave in a flash.

00:16:32.700 You have to leave promptly.

00:16:34.240 You have to leave reasonably.

00:16:35.880 You have to leave immediately.

00:16:37.180 But you don't have to physically run.

00:16:39.880 You have to walk at a reasonable pace.

00:16:41.780 At no time was Corporal Walker or his girlfriend in contravention of the act.

00:16:49.420 They were told to leave and they were leaving.

00:16:52.640 No one broke the law.

00:16:55.100 There was no legal basis for them to be arrested, let alone slammed to the ground.

00:17:01.420 Let me read some more, though.

00:17:02.780 This is from the York Region Report.

00:17:04.900 The security guard called for backup from other security guards

00:17:07.680 and York Regional Police were called.

00:17:10.200 Now get this.

00:17:11.300 This is the mall here.

00:17:13.540 Our priority is keeping our customers and employees working in the mall

00:17:17.880 as safe as possible during the pandemic.

00:17:21.060 And we are operating under strict conditions.

00:17:24.020 Do you think they kept people as safe as possible?

00:17:27.040 They sure didn't keep Corporal Walker and his girlfriend safe, did they?

00:17:31.000 What exactly was the risk from them?

00:17:33.600 We're never told.

00:17:34.540 As you saw, they were wearing their masks when they were stomped.

00:17:37.480 Let me read one last series of excerpts.

00:17:42.600 This is from the York Regional Police.

00:17:44.940 So the stomping was done by the private security, but the police came later.

00:17:50.040 Now take a look at this.

00:17:53.340 Nicole, that's Officer Laura Nicole of the York Regional Police,

00:17:57.520 said police have reviewed video from the incident, including footage from the mall.

00:18:01.600 Security guards and posted on social media and feel the charges against Walker are warranted.

00:18:08.220 In this incident, the security guard observed two people in the food court area eating and not wearing masks.

00:18:13.040 They were asked to disperse and failed to comply.

00:18:15.760 Hang on a second.

00:18:16.520 We saw that they complied.

00:18:18.720 We watched that with our own eyes.

00:18:20.240 Additional security resources responded, and the two people were asked to leave the mall.

00:18:26.300 As a courtesy, security agreed to allow them to leave through the entrance closer to their vehicle

00:18:32.760 and began walking them toward that entrance, she said.

00:18:36.360 All right.

00:18:37.420 So they left immediately, contrary to what she said just a moment earlier.

00:18:41.520 And according to police, they had the agreement and the permission of the mall to take the route that they did.

00:18:47.740 And they were going at a reasonable clip, considering that the woman was pregnant. 0.66

00:18:52.700 Get this.

00:18:54.780 The suspect was yelling and swearing at the security officers.

00:18:58.520 That's true.

00:18:59.220 We saw that.

00:19:00.140 I don't know if he was yelling.

00:19:00.980 He was speaking at a good volume.

00:19:03.480 We saw that in the videotape.

00:19:05.340 By the way, it's not against the law to raise your voice,

00:19:08.560 and it's not even against the law to swear.

00:19:10.160 But get this next sentence.

00:19:11.280 This is the killer for me.

00:19:13.380 He began filming them and refusing to leave.

00:19:17.740 Did he refuse to leave?

00:19:22.260 I agree he began filming him, but did he refuse to leave?

00:19:24.780 Take one more look.

00:19:25.640 Over there.

00:19:29.240 Don't put your hands on me, bro.

00:19:30.980 Don't put your hands on me.

00:19:32.820 Don't put your hands on me.

00:19:35.320 Don't put your hands on me.

00:19:37.020 Let's go.

00:19:38.480 Don't put your hands on me, bro.

00:19:42.240 Don't put your hands on me.

00:19:43.540 Don't put your hands on me.

00:19:45.640 He didn't refuse to leave.

00:19:47.500 He was leaving.

00:19:48.980 They actually stopped him from leaving because they chose to stomp him instead.

00:19:55.060 Why would that officer lie like that?

00:19:58.640 Why would she say that she reviewed the videotape and he refused to leave?

00:20:06.020 We saw him leaving.

00:20:08.440 The police officer admits that the mall agreed he would leave on a certain route.

00:20:13.540 We watched them leaving and they were stomped.

00:20:15.900 Why are the police endorsing this group violence?

00:20:20.660 I'd even call it gang violence against this man.

00:20:23.020 Now, he says it's racially charged.

00:20:25.100 Maybe it is, but you don't have to go there.

00:20:28.220 You don't even have to say, where's my civil right about a mask?

00:20:31.160 The guy was wearing a mask.

00:20:33.240 He was wearing a mask when he was stomped.

00:20:35.140 Thank God they didn't stomp the pregnant woman as well. 1.00

00:20:38.260 Here's my point.

00:20:39.980 This is being called normal now.

00:20:42.920 The mall is standing by this.

00:20:46.480 The police are standing by the mall cops.

00:20:49.440 It's not their business to do that.

00:20:51.180 They're choosing to do that.

00:20:53.100 Laughably, this same story says they're reviewing hours and hours of footage.

00:20:57.940 There's not hours and hours of footage.

00:20:59.580 There's a couple minutes.

00:21:00.440 I've shown you everything relevant.

00:21:03.020 This is the new normal.

00:21:05.740 A couple are eating food in the food court.

00:21:09.280 They're told not to, so they walk out and leave.

00:21:12.040 And they cuss on their way out. 1.00

00:21:13.540 You know, you would too if you went into a mall and were told to leave in a ridiculous way. 0.97

00:21:17.680 And to be stomped and pounded for that. 0.88

00:21:21.120 It's a good point, though.

00:21:23.020 Where is Black Lives Matter? 0.99

00:21:24.940 I don't think it's a racial thing.

00:21:26.660 But why is this man's civil liberties and his physical integrity smashed?

00:21:31.000 And it's excused by the mask ideologues who say,

00:21:35.580 if you don't follow each one of these rules punctiliously, expect to be smashed.

00:21:40.800 If you have a restaurant like Adam Skelly and Adamson's Barbecue, and if you contravene a rule,

00:21:47.240 you won't just get a ticket.

00:21:48.500 You'll get 100 police, 50 cars, and six riot horses.

00:21:52.120 This is the tyranny they told us Donald Trump represented.

00:21:56.960 This is the fascism.

00:21:58.800 This is the autocracy.

00:22:00.720 This is the steel hand glove and the steel boot that we were told Trump represented.

00:22:07.180 But here we have it with every little police force, public health officer, and now every little mall cop.

00:22:13.720 Where's the Canadian Civil Liberties Association?

00:22:17.680 Where's the Police Oversight Commission?

00:22:20.300 Where's the trial lawyers lining up to sue the mall?

00:22:23.620 We now live in an era, unthinkable less than a year ago,

00:22:28.620 that a man and a woman wearing a mask, being marched out of a mall,

00:22:33.280 can be pulverized in the name of public health.

00:22:38.580 Stay with us for a minute.

00:22:43.720 Well, while the nation is gripped with so many crises, the pandemic, even worse,

00:22:57.300 the lockdown in response to the pandemic, even worse, the massive spending and borrowing

00:23:03.880 that will take decades to pay down, Justin Trudeau did the most bizarre thing, unplanned,

00:23:11.260 unpromised, so out of the blue, he stuck a dagger into anyone's wallet that spends money on energy,

00:23:21.260 on transportation.

00:23:23.480 And that's for everyone in the country, but that dagger actually was aimed at the heart

00:23:27.560 of Alberta and Saskatchewan and the other oil-producing provinces.

00:23:31.680 I'm talking about Trudeau's shocking decision to raise the carbon tax to $170 a ton,

00:23:41.040 more than triple what it is now.

00:23:44.360 Can you imagine doing that to a country that is economically as reeling as our own is now?

00:23:51.480 Joining us now to talk about it is the Alberta Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation,

00:23:56.260 Franco Teresano, who joins us now.

00:23:58.280 You're in Calgary, am I right, Franco? 0.61

00:24:00.480 Yep, I'm in Calgary right now.

00:24:02.200 That is the center of the bullseye for the carbon tax.

00:24:05.900 That city has had either the highest or amongst the highest unemployment rate for years in this country.

00:24:12.400 It used to be the opposite.

00:24:14.280 Out of the blue, this shot at the oil patch, what on earth is the justification for this?

00:24:21.160 Well, certainly I think the place that we have to start here is a simple truth,

00:24:25.480 and that's that the Trudeau government lied to us.

00:24:28.180 Leading up into the last election, you know, former Environment Minister Catherine McKenna,

00:24:33.120 she told us that the government has no intention of increasing the carbon tax beyond what they already told us about.

00:24:38.740 Well, guess what?

00:24:39.820 Turns out that was a lie.

00:24:41.400 But it's not just Trudeau's former Environment Minister, because Trudeau himself is breaking a promise.

00:24:46.460 I mean, it was only a few months ago that he told us that he wasn't going to be increasing taxes,

00:24:50.700 that he wasn't going to be saddling Canadians with higher costs,

00:24:54.180 and now we find out that there's going to be a massive carbon tax hike.

00:24:57.700 So this is absolutely not courageous.

00:25:00.300 Really, it's the opposite.

00:25:01.440 It's gutless.

00:25:02.500 You know, it would have been courageous if Trudeau actually looked us in the eye,

00:25:06.260 and he told us that he was going to soak Canadian families for an extra $30

00:25:10.460 when they go up to fill their minivans in carbon taxes.

00:25:13.780 So it really is a betrayal, and as you pointed out, I mean, it's coming at probably the worst possible time for this.

00:25:20.060 It doesn't make any sense.

00:25:21.700 I mean, the economy has had such a shock to the system, frankly, the decline in economic activity.

00:25:29.880 If you care about carbon dioxide emissions, and I'm not, I'm a skeptic of the theory of man-made global warming,

00:25:36.080 but you should be cheering because this human misery actually has caused less emissions

00:25:43.220 because we're living smaller.

00:25:44.860 People are going bankrupt.

00:25:46.740 So for those who value that, hooray, congratulations, this is what you wanted.

00:25:51.840 But to do that on top of all the misery feels so punitive,

00:25:59.680 and I can't help but think that just a few weeks ago there was all this kerfuffle in the media

00:26:05.000 about something the World Economic Forum calls the Great Reset,

00:26:09.460 which is, you know, get off carbon fuels, get on to shopping from Amazon,

00:26:15.600 and this strange digital-only life.

00:26:19.520 Justin Trudeau was talking about the Great Reset at a UN press conference,

00:26:23.580 and all these mainstream media types were saying,

00:26:26.860 oh, that's not real, that's a conspiracy theory.

00:26:28.920 And out of the blue, he does one of the things they talk about in the Great Reset

00:26:33.400 at the World Economic Forum.

00:26:34.940 He basically taxes oil and gas so punitively it's going to stop people

00:26:41.260 from heating their homes and driving.

00:26:45.220 Is this part of a global thing?

00:26:47.360 Is any other country going along with this Great Reset?

00:26:51.640 China certainly isn't. 0.61

00:26:53.000 They're going full tilt. 1.00

00:26:53.960 Are we the only people stupid enough to do this, Franco? 1.00

00:26:56.320 Well, you know, you talk about misery, and I'm in Calgary, 1.00

00:27:02.300 and I know all Canadians are struggling,

00:27:04.840 and I know all Canadians have been struggling for the last few months,

00:27:07.700 but in Calgary, in Alberta, I mean, we've been struggling for the last five-plus years.

00:27:12.480 You know, and it really sucks to have these conversations with my fellow Albertans,

00:27:18.420 you know, when I hear about families who are struggling to put groceries on the table,

00:27:21.900 who are burning through their savings.

00:27:23.620 You know, I talk to small businesses frequently,

00:27:26.240 and I hear that they're not sure whether they're going to be able to fully recover from this.

00:27:30.460 Right?

00:27:30.620 They're hanging on by a thread.

00:27:32.080 Our economy is hanging on by a thread.

00:27:33.800 And unfortunately, we hear this new news, which amounts to a lie from the Trudeau government,

00:27:39.280 that they're going to be hiking massively the carbon tax, right?

00:27:42.140 And it's really just another kick to the shins while we're already down, while we're already hurting.

00:27:47.160 We talk about Alberta.

00:27:48.500 We've already seen the No More Pipelines law, the discriminatory tanker ban,

00:27:52.520 and, of course, moving the regulatory goalposts on Energy East, rejecting Northern Gateway.

00:27:59.640 I mean, you really can go on and on and on.

00:28:02.300 And I think that's why Albertans are really feeling a lot of the pain.

00:28:07.280 I know all Canadians are feeling pain right now,

00:28:09.800 and this carbon tax hike is certainly going to increase that pain,

00:28:13.780 but it's really going to do a lot of harm to Alberta's economy.

00:28:16.660 You know, very early in the lockdown was Earth Hour.

00:28:21.560 That's a gimmick invented by Gerald Butts, Trudeau's former boss at the World Wildlife Foundation.

00:28:29.740 And it was, turn off your electricity for an hour, don't do anything for an hour.

00:28:34.400 And Trudeau, quote, celebrated that during the darkest hours of the lockdown.

00:28:41.300 The whole country was in misery because we were locked down.

00:28:45.000 And he was saying, woo, this is our ideal.

00:28:48.100 You know, no electricity, no light bulbs, no computer, just locked. 0.79

00:28:51.040 Like, it was so gross, but an extra layer of gross was that he was so childish and juvenile

00:28:58.060 that he was celebrating this during the worst part of the lockdown. 0.59

00:29:03.000 But that wasn't a one-off, Franco.

00:29:04.680 Later on, he announced a ban on single-use plastics.

00:29:09.580 Single-use plastics have been a major tool in dealing with this pandemic

00:29:13.180 in terms of food safety and gloves and, you know, try doing any of those things with old plastic.

00:29:19.880 And now you have this carbon tax.

00:29:21.640 It looks like he's doing these foolish pet projects that I just know, Franco,

00:29:27.600 are not in the top ten list of what Canadians want. 0.79

00:29:31.300 He's taking advantage of the crisis to ram through any cockamamie scheme that he's always wanted to do.

00:29:39.380 This would normally be front-page news.

00:29:42.300 Well, you know, I mean, of course the Trudeau government is going to try to dress this up as an environmental plan.

00:29:47.260 But the carbon tax is not an environmental plan.

00:29:50.160 It's a tax plan, right?

00:29:51.280 I mean, look, if we're going to talk about this, you have to look at it from a global perspective.

00:29:56.020 Canada makes up, what, about 1.5% of GHG emissions.

00:30:00.660 I mean, so even if Trudeau manages to bring our economy to a screeching halt,

00:30:05.140 it's really not going to have a global impact, right?

00:30:09.720 So what we're seeing is we're seeing our federal government really continue to pull coals into our own economy.

00:30:15.640 And if we really are concerned about the environment,

00:30:19.740 then what we should be doing is making it easier, not harder,

00:30:22.760 for us to export our oil and gas across the world.

00:30:25.620 But we're not seeing that, right?

00:30:27.260 Bill C-69, the normal pipelines law, the discriminatory tanker ban, right?

00:30:31.320 This is making it harder.

00:30:32.520 And on top of that, we're also making it harder for families to put food on the table, right?

00:30:37.180 For businesses to get their neighbours back to work.

00:30:40.480 And, you know, lost in this from the taxpayer perspective is it's going to cost taxpayers.

00:30:45.100 I mean, how do we pay for a lot of the government services,

00:30:47.660 or at least a large portion, through our oil and gas industry?

00:30:51.600 Frick, let me leave you with this.

00:30:53.880 I got a phone call out of the blue from a very senior businessman in Alberta on the weekend.

00:31:00.240 I was shocked that he called me.

00:31:01.600 I couldn't believe it was out of the blue.

00:31:03.500 And he's been driven to the edge by this.

00:31:06.880 Not personally, but his patience for Confederation as it runs under the current system.

00:31:14.600 And for a man of such stability and establishment to say he's basically done was shocking to me.

00:31:23.780 Wexit was on the radar of Albertans and other Westerners after the 2019 election.

00:31:30.040 The pandemic sort of put everything in the freezer for six months.

00:31:32.760 But I'm starting to hear voices like that again that I had never thought would talk that way.

00:31:39.220 I think Trudeau wants to drive the West out.

00:31:41.520 And I think he'd be happy if the West was driven out.

00:31:44.120 He'd enjoy pounding them with a stick out the door.

00:31:46.960 And then he would win forever because he would get rid of the conservative voting province.

00:31:51.820 I actually think Trudeau likes antagonizing the West.

00:31:55.180 I don't know if you want to talk about any of those things.

00:31:57.220 But I just sure feel it.

00:31:58.520 I sure feel it.

00:31:59.320 Well, I can certainly tell you that people are struggling right now.

00:32:03.440 And we've been struggling for a long time.

00:32:05.040 And I think there's no doubt that there's a bit of a prairie fire out here.

00:32:10.200 And certainly Trudeau's massive carbon tax hike is adding fuel to that fire.

00:32:15.000 So, I mean, it would be great to see our political leaders kind of come to the table here.

00:32:19.700 But one of the things that Albertans are going to need to see is we're going to need to see the federal government take the regulatory noose that's hanging around our economy right now.

00:32:28.160 So, we really need to see the feds.

00:32:30.260 I mean, stop tightening the noose.

00:32:32.820 Well, I wish they would listen to you, Franco. 0.75

00:32:34.840 I fear they won't.

00:32:36.420 And I fear for the worst for the West, which is where I'm from.

00:32:39.620 And even though I'm out here in exile in Toronto, my heart is in the West.

00:32:43.540 And this is a terrible thing being done to the West.

00:32:46.240 There's no economic or environmental sense to it.

00:32:49.180 It's causing pain.

00:32:50.480 I'm so glad you're out there speaking to the other side of this.

00:32:53.340 Keep it up, my friend.

00:32:54.780 Well, hey, thank you so much for having me on.

00:32:56.480 Oh, it's my pleasure.

00:32:57.440 There's Franco Teresano.

00:32:58.920 He's the Alberta director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, one of the only groups out there that does not take money from the Trudeau government,

00:33:08.460 which is the reason why they're one of the only groups out there that can speak so plainly and independently.

00:33:14.900 And if you can, I would encourage you to support them, not only financially if you can, but to follow their stories.

00:33:22.320 Follow them on Twitter.

00:33:23.460 Follow their website.

00:33:24.160 They are like us.

00:33:26.180 They are fully independent.

00:33:28.020 And my God, we need all the allies we can have.

00:33:30.040 That's Franco Teresano.

00:33:31.000 Stay with us more ahead.

00:33:31.860 Hey, welcome back to my show Friday.

00:33:46.080 Kathleen writes, the liberal scandals continue to get bigger and bigger.

00:33:50.240 Oh, yeah.

00:33:50.780 And the thing is, why not?

00:33:52.780 Where's the check and balance to them?

00:33:54.300 You know, I noted that it's been, I guess it's been five days now since we broke the massive China file story.

00:34:01.580 And it's been covered all around the world.

00:34:03.000 You saw I went on to the Tucker Carlson show.

00:34:05.280 The National Post is covered.

00:34:06.320 The World of Mail is covered.

00:34:07.060 The Toronto Sun is covered.

00:34:07.940 It's been covered.

00:34:08.460 Third, the CBC has run one sentence about it.

00:34:14.560 I don't care if they don't like me or how we got the documents.

00:34:18.380 The documents, we got them.

00:34:20.000 They simply are refusing to report on an enormous foreign affairs and security scandal.

00:34:25.720 So, of course, they're going to refuse to report on smaller scandals, too.

00:34:30.160 They're in the tank for Justin Trudeau.

00:34:31.760 But he already knew that.

00:34:33.100 He pays them.

00:34:35.400 Bruce writes, even though we aren't technically at war with China, they still view us as the enemy.

00:34:40.140 That's why they fight us by corrupting our politicians and university faculty in such a subtle way.

00:34:45.000 Trudeau didn't technically commit treason, but his actions gave aid and comfort to that snake, the CCP.

00:34:51.120 I think you're pretty accurate there.

00:34:52.980 I should tell you that Xi Jinping believes they're at war.

00:34:56.400 There's different ways to fight a war.

00:34:57.840 There's cyber attacks.

00:35:00.040 There's espionage.

00:35:01.200 There's industrial espionage.

00:35:03.080 There's war by other means.

00:35:05.280 I think that China believes they're at war.

00:35:07.560 Why would we think we're not?

00:35:10.540 Nicholas writes, keep sharing your news about the liberal Trudeau corruption everywhere in the world.

00:35:15.160 Oh, we will.

00:35:15.740 And I just find it so unusual that we have more interest in these stories about Canadian security on American media than in our rival Canadian media.

00:35:24.980 And that's our show for today.

00:35:26.320 Until tomorrow, on behalf of all of us here at Rebel World Headquarters, to you and all.

00:35:29.840 Good night.

00:35:30.520 And keep fighting for freedom.

00:35:31.480 Good night.

00:35:46.000 Good night.

00:35:46.620 Good night.

00:35:47.580 Good night.

00:35:52.380 Good night.
