00:06:58.960 Community and Social Services.

00:07:02.200 We are asking the federal government to come to the table.
00:07:05.700 Well, we've known this for years
00:07:06.780 since Trudeau brought over 50,000 Syrians

00:07:10.980 most of them without a high school diploma,
00:07:12.640 no cultural skills, no plan.

00:08:33.460 to avoid saying the $50,000 number
00:08:36.280 because they knew it was so outrageous,

00:08:43.780 But Lisa McLeod is talking about the provincial costs.
00:08:46.580 Let me quote from the story I showed you a moment earlier.

00:08:50.820 before the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration
00:08:53.020 that $74 million is needed to fund
00:08:55.280 the cost of maintaining Toronto's shelter system alone.
00:08:58.520 Another $12 million is needed
00:08:59.640 for the increased demand on homeless shelters in Ottawa,
00:09:02.720 plus $3 million for support services
00:09:04.580 lent to the province by the Canadian Red Cross,
00:09:06.600 and $20 million for legal bills?
00:09:09.900 And children's education?
00:09:11.600 Oh, I didn't know we're paying lawyers.
00:09:12.900 Of course we are.
00:09:13.680 The federal government announced this summer
00:09:15.080 it would give $11 million to Toronto
00:09:16.460 to alleviate the pressure on the city's temporary housing.
00:09:18.640 Part of the money would be used to rent hotel rooms
00:09:21.480 for about 450 irregular migrants
00:09:24.160 who had been staying in college dorms
00:09:25.880 after city shelters started turning them away.
00:09:28.380 Initially, the government said the migrants
00:09:29.660 would only stay in hotels until September 30th.
