00:02:14.460 minister of Canada. And I want to know what that means now for my and your family's bottom line.

00:02:30.580 Of course, what she's talking about is this study that the Privy Council, which is basically the

00:02:40.740 permanent bureaucracy of the prime minister's office, they came out with a study saying, yeah,

00:02:46.120 things are going to get really grim in the future, not too far in the future, where people will have

00:02:50.920 to forage for food in public parks. And I love how you said strangle geese, Sheila, because of course,

00:02:57.520 Mark Carney wants to take all of our guns. Right. So we won't be able to hunt for our elk anymore,

00:03:03.780 or moose or whatever. Even pheasant, I guess, will be off the menu because they're harder to catch.

00:03:08.760 We're going to have to go to the slow moving geese and just choke them out. Yeah. So

00:03:13.480 in all seriousness, for the finances, yeah, we're probably in for a bit of trouble with Carney.

00:03:25.420 But I wanted to give people a pep talk first. Okay. This is a very slim minority. Okay. It is not

00:03:34.060 nearly as strong a minority that Trudeau had with Singh. Okay. Yes, I'm looking at the seat math,

00:03:42.040 as I call it. It doesn't look awesome, because it looks as if the NDP will be able to support the

00:03:49.880 liberals, at least on a vote by vote basis. And they don't deserve that. They do not deserve that.

00:03:55.800 They completely collapsed. And they're the reason Mark Carney got the seats that he did.

00:04:01.000 They don't deserve now to continue to hold the balance of power, which is at the end of the day,

00:04:06.380 holding the electorate hostage. Yeah. And that's what's going to happen for a while, at least.

00:04:11.640 Um, and as of right now, the NDP doesn't have a leader. So I would say for the foreseeable future,

00:04:18.360 that's what's going to happen is they'll just kind of vote, vote along to get along with him,

00:04:22.680 with Carney. So that's a thing. But to the points that people have been sharing around the last couple

00:04:30.460 of days, the conservative vote, if that's what you were going for, okay, the conservative vote,

00:04:37.480 vote, uh, was so high. Like when Stephen Harper won his majority, I think he got about 39.6% of the

00:04:45.900 vote, maybe a little less, but it was 39. Uh, Pierre Polyev, I think it was close to 42 or 43%.

00:04:54.300 Yeah. By the end of it. So he hit such a high watermark. We haven't seen that big a popular vote

00:05:02.620 for the blue team since the eighties. Like hanging tough was like number one on the charts with new

00:05:08.860 kids. Sorry. I have to work into our hit because it makes me happy. Um, hanging tough was topping

00:05:14.700 the charts back in the day when the last time the conservatives pulled this high. And the reason

00:05:19.180 why I'm pointing that out is because of course, Pierre Polyev was promising to get rid of all carbon

00:05:23.800 taxes. So nuke the carbon tax from orbit. He was promising to reverse all of the gun grab laws,

00:05:29.620 which would have been awesome. He was promising to get rid of all of the censorship laws, which is

00:05:34.120 again, outstanding. And we need that for our free expression. And he was going to defund the media,

00:05:39.400 which is a huge factor here. So this is why I understand the vast majority of our viewers right

00:05:45.420 now will be kind of wondering what's next. So what I think is going to happen next is I believe this is

00:05:52.840 my hunch. I have not talked to them. Um, I believe that Pierre Polyev will have to find a dark blue seat.

00:05:59.620 So he'll have that monkey off of his back. He'll officially have a seat back in the house of

00:06:03.880 commons. And this has happened before. There have been cases where we've had political leaders,

00:06:08.440 obviously who don't have seats in the legislature. Jagmeet Singh didn't. Sure. Exactly. Exactly.

00:06:14.040 Um, Daniel Smith didn't when she became premier. Yes. Jim Prentiss, neither. Yes. So this,

00:06:20.960 this does happen. Was it, um, an, a scorpion sting at the end of the day for him? Yeah,

00:06:27.420 for sure. That would have been really rough to see those numbers. Yeah, but fixable. So what he

00:06:33.040 needs to do is he needs to find now, and this is just structurally, this would happen if it were

00:06:37.100 any party. Right. So in this situation, what the party leader does is they find a loyal soldier to

00:06:43.840 take, you know, fall on the sword and offer up their seat. And then what they need to do is they need to

00:06:49.700 file for their request to have a by-election. And then it is up to the prime minister when a by-election

00:06:56.680 in that riding is called. Typically in tradition, it's within three to six months. Right. So really

00:07:04.460 fast. However, Pierre Polyev is still the official, his majesty's official loyal opposition leader.

00:07:10.620 He'll stay in Stornaway. That's his official residence. None of that changes for him, his wife,

00:07:16.220 and his kids. All that stuff will stay the same right now. But technically, he does obviously

00:07:20.920 want to get a seat back in the House of Commons. As quick as possible. Yes, as quick as possible.

00:07:26.620 Because there's nothing I would enjoy more as a parliament nerd than seeing Pierre Polyev

00:08:22.440 was seeing, at the time, a four-seat gain. It turned into not be a four-seat gain in Atlantic

00:08:27.800 Canada for the Conservatives. But anyway, I digress. So, first things first, I believe

00:08:32.400 structurally what they're going to do is find Pierre Polyev a safe seat to run in, get the

00:08:38.760 by-election done. Two, I think the answers are still the same. And the arguments are still

00:08:45.680 the same. It's about affordability. Like, normal people cannot afford basic elements of life

00:08:52.480 here. And so I think the two elements will be affordability and the strangling control of

00:08:59.400 Ottawa. Yeah. And so with affordability, they need to keep on fighting to get rid of the

00:09:04.660 industrial carbon tax, which he is going to roll out any second now. Yeah. And it is going

00:09:09.440 to be mega expensive. We're trying to find out how expensive. Okay. Two, he's going to introduce

00:09:15.800 his brand new carbon tax tariffs, which are separate and apart from the industrial carbon tax.

00:09:21.300 So this, for folks who don't know, Carney, Carney loves carbon taxes so much. He describes them as

00:09:29.560 a cornerstone to his belief system for the world. And that's in his book. Anyone who's not read his

00:09:36.640 book yet, pitter-patter. You must. Yeah. You must. I'm sorry. Borrow it from the library if you don't

00:09:41.120 want to give him money. Get your hands on Mark Carney's book. Read this thing. Yeah. Because he's now the

00:09:45.700 prime minister and he's got a very good chunk of seats in the house of commons. And it looks like

00:09:50.720 it's going to be that way for a while. And he kept the climate radicals, you know. He did. All of them

00:09:55.780 are there. The same old Trudeau climate radicals are going to be in his cabinet too. Guibo is there.

00:10:39.120 and a big waste of money. And we saw that at play in this election.

00:11:02.220 be fighting are things like the industrial carbon tax, the new carbon tax tariffs that are going to make

00:11:06.980 your life more expensive. We're going to fight the censorship on one side of the vice and the funding of

00:11:12.640 the media on that other side of that vice. We're going to be fighting the gun grab. Okay. Those are

00:11:18.720 all still very strong elements of this fight. And to give people some encouragement here. And again,

00:11:24.920 this is going along with the fact that in this case, the blue team was going to reduce how much

00:11:31.960 they were putting down on the debt. They were going to reduce your taxes more than the red team. 0.82

00:11:35.640 They were going to scrap all the carbon taxes. They were going to scrap the gun grab and they

00:11:39.240 were going to cancel the censorship plans. All of those things. If the red team had been pushing

00:11:43.320 for all of those things in earnest all this time, I'd be saying the same thing. So all that

00:11:48.100 understood. Um, did you see the youth vote? No. Yeah. There's a survey that go. Apparently my,

00:11:56.720 my 17 year old told me this. Cause you know, I'm not 17, so I don't follow it. Right.

00:12:00.800 But there's a youth vote survey that happens each time. Yeah. And the conservatives want it. Yeah.

00:12:07.220 I've never seen that in my life. It's always been green or NDP or something. Yeah. But this time

00:12:34.540 Look, I know that the women elected Justin Trudeau. I don't take offense to that because I didn't vote

00:12:42.100 for him. It's not me. I didn't do it. Um, but I know the Eastern boomers, they cared about fighting 0.99

00:12:54.420 about fighting Trump tariffs, but they are the people least affected by the tariffs. And so

00:13:00.380 here's my, my like bright spot in this mess. The conservatives actually swept the ridings

00:13:08.420 most affected by the tariffs. The conservatives snatched Windsor. Oh, did they keep that one

00:13:15.220 from the hands of the left? That's amazing. That's amazing. Those are auto workers, blue collar

00:13:21.500 unionized jobs, which normally vote NDP. They're voting conservative. Now they see as the conservatives

00:13:29.180 as the best people to fight Trump, regardless of what the insulated retirees in Toronto have to say

00:13:37.920 and endorsed the conservatives. Yes. That's a new one. Like that is a total new one. It's not all

00:13:46.660 that interesting to see like the steel workers in Alberta endorse the conservative. They build

00:13:51.440 pipelines, of course, but they build refineries. That's fine. But when you see unions in Ontario

00:13:57.540 coming out to support the conservatives, that's a new coalition forming that I think is a longer

00:14:04.240 lasting than whatever strange boomer lefty greenie coalition that Mark Carney has cobbled together.

00:14:13.540 We're seeing young people, young people, like young, young people, the next generation of voters are

00:14:19.580 conservative, blue collar people, families, business people, and indigenous people are voting

00:14:27.660 conservative. Chief Billy Morin swept his seat. Uh, Ellis Ross swept his seat. Uh, this is a new

00:14:35.660 development. We like, again, indigenous people in Alberta, of course they, they vote conservative.

00:14:40.940 Why? Because there is no more an indigenous industry than the oil and gas sector provides

00:14:47.120 good jobs in indigenous communities where you get to stay in your community and, and break from 1.00

00:14:52.780 generational poverty. But to see that happening in British Columbia is a little bit something

00:14:56.700 different. And so it gives me hope for a longer lasting, uh, movement to be built upon.

00:15:03.160 Yeah. Uh, Ellis Ross was for folks who don't know him. Um, I don't know him well, but being from BC,

00:15:09.040 I kind of picked up a bit more what he was saying. Um, he was, he was a chief, he was a government

00:15:14.020 leader in his regional area before he became provincial. Yeah. Yeah. Before he got into provincial

00:15:19.900 politics. Um, he ran for the leadership of the BC liberals. They were foolish to not put him forward.

00:15:27.440 Um, because he, he's, I would describe him as very fair minded. Like he's not, he's not a, doesn't have

00:15:35.420 a mean bone in his body, but he fights for his people, for his territory and for workers. And so

00:15:42.140 having him come along to the federal, think of this, he was a bit more, I would describe him as

00:15:47.700 progressive. Centrist. Yeah. Yeah. Centrist. Centrist. Right. And now he's come along to the federal

00:15:54.440 conservatives. And so, and he's fighting against things like, uh, pipeline bans and he's against

00:16:00.500 things like energy caps and he's against things like carbon taxes. So because he knows that those

00:16:06.960 big government policies just impoverish working people. Yeah. The same thing as tariffs, tariffs

00:16:12.600 only hurt working people with both their job losses and making stuff at our stores cost more.

00:16:19.640 Rich people don't notice that stuff because they don't know how much milk costs. They don't know how

00:16:23.460 much vegetables cost. Like when Carney said, I don't do the grocery shopping. I believe him.

00:16:28.300 He has the help go do that. So this is the big difference here. And so I wanted to encourage

00:16:33.860 people that we've been doing this fight in particular with things like carbon taxes, pipeline

00:16:39.340 bans, energy caps, censorship, those kinds of gun grabs, those elements of the fight. We've been doing

00:16:45.640 this now for years, so they're not changing. So we know how those feel in our hands. We know how to

00:16:52.040 mobilize. We know how to push back on them. And they reduced the minority right down to like this

00:16:58.580 big. Yeah. So, and what I was interested in, I don't know if those numbers stood up.

00:17:04.100 Correct me if I'm wrong. Did the conservatives get a million more votes than Ontario Premier

00:17:09.720 Doug Ford did in Ontario? Yes. Yes. That's big. Doug Ford, in spite of his sabotage,

00:17:17.280 him and his cronies, this is me saying this, not you, Chris. Doug Ford and his cronies with their

00:17:24.100 aspirations on the prime minister's chair, willing to sabotage the conservatives and sell the rest of

00:17:30.240 us out in the West in the middle of an election campaign, saying the conservatives, the federal party

00:17:35.920 doesn't know how to campaign. Well, they smoked Doug Ford's numbers in his own province. And what a

00:17:43.460 wild thing to say, especially after all those people who volunteered to get Doug Ford elected

00:17:52.180 were part of the federal campaign. What? Like you're shooting inside the house, Doug Ford.

00:17:58.600 That was strange. I know. I'll give you a really concrete example of my puzzlement over what is

00:18:03.640 going on in Queens Park. Oh, I'm not puzzled. I know. I figured it out. But anyway, I'll be quiet.

00:18:09.740 I'm trying to be dainty. I know. So you're like, and I see what you're doing. So with I'll give you

00:18:16.620 Hamilton, for example. So back going back to the industrial carbon tax, going back to the trade

00:18:21.840 unions endorsing the federal conservatives, the pipe workers, the pipe workers of Hamilton who work

00:18:28.720 in the steel industry came out with their face and in print saying, we endorse the conservatives,

00:18:35.980 the blue team this time around, because they're promising to get rid of the industrial carbon tax.

00:18:42.020 They say the carny industrial carbon tax will, quote, decimate, meaning obliterate, decimate

00:18:50.940 the steel industry in and around Hamilton. Hamilton, last I checked, is in the province of Ontario.

00:18:57.780 Yeah. Okay. Big time. Ford likes to put on a hard hat and a high visibility vest the way a lot of

00:19:04.960 politicians like to. Okay. Playing dress up there. What is he doing? Not coming out swinging against

00:19:11.840 carny's industrial carbon tax. Right. In the same way Scott Moe did of like, it's on like Donkey Kong.

00:19:18.640 Daniel Smith, she came out against it, but in more of a stay out of my backyard sort of way,

00:19:23.880 because she wants provincial control over everything. But Moe like full on said, stop it 1.00

00:19:29.340 with this industrial carbon tax nonsense. And so, but Ford wasn't there. He didn't show up. So from a,

00:19:36.840 from a working person perspective, which is supposed to be his base, right? Like steelworkers in Hamilton,

00:19:43.060 he needs to keep those folks, but he didn't come out and defend them, which was astonishing.

00:19:49.020 Yeah. And the auto sector in Windsor. You know, you look at what happened during this campaign.

00:19:59.420 John Rustad went out strong for Polyev. Daniel Smith, strong for Polyev. Scott Moe, strong for Polyev.

00:20:07.060 Brad Wall. Brad Wall. He came out of retirement as Canada's most popular premier for 10 years

00:20:12.940 and endorsed Polyev. So you've got four superstars. I mean, the only other person I could think of is

00:20:20.280 a message from beyond the grave, Ralph Klein. And Doug Ford is standing there with Carney.

00:20:28.740 Yeah. Selling out his fellow conservative premiers.

00:20:32.440 So in financially, they, they're not balancing budgets in that province. Like there's a lot of

00:20:38.140 fiscal mess. Oh yeah. So yeah, it's, it's, it's definitely a thing. Um, did you want to quickly

00:20:44.440 touch on what Smith is doing with the, uh, referendum changes? I will. As a last topic,

00:20:51.100 first thing I want to talk to you about is, okay, so Mark Carney promises to spend a hundred billion

00:20:56.100 dollars more than, uh, Justin Trudeau. Apparently he's the calm wise banker. Who's just making it rain

00:21:05.520 with cash. And while the rest of us have to bait in raccoons, uh, down at the playground,

00:21:11.440 um, and almost instantly, uh, Fitch, which is like a credit rating company, Fitch ratings comes out and

00:21:21.800 says, not even 24 hours after Carney's elected, they're saying that Canada is risking it's losing

00:21:29.360 AAA rating. If the liberals actually do what they campaigned on, which is what the rest of us have

00:21:35.660 been saying. We can't afford this. And now the international credit ratings, uh, organizations

00:21:41.040 are saying, yeah, yeah, you can't do that. It's bad because the, you can't foist that debt load

00:21:47.460 upon the taxpayer and not think that there are going to be real implications for your, for your

00:21:53.360 country's finances. Yeah. This is a trying not to be grim, but this part is grim. Um, this is a

00:22:00.400 problem. Uh, I was legitimately surprised. I thought I was misreading it when it came out on that

00:22:05.520 Saturday during the campaign that Carney's going to add more money to the debt than Trudeau was

00:22:10.300 planning to. Right. So I thought that maybe high level, like an average person would have viewed

00:22:16.580 Carney as, Oh, he's a banker. So he'll be fiscally responsible because he's a money guy. Uh, turns out

00:22:21.760 the banker is going to be worse with money than the drama teacher. Yep. I did not expect that, but

00:22:27.780 it's a reality. So this is what he's planning. And you're right that the international credit

00:22:32.340 rating agencies are really on top of this. This is the problem if that happens. So we pay interest

00:22:39.860 on the debt. So right now the debt is about $1.2 trillion. We pay billions and billions and

00:22:46.440 billions of dollars every single year, just in the interest payment on that debt. It in fact,

00:22:52.660 eclipses how much the feds give the provinces for healthcare. So the next time you hear somebody say,

00:22:58.520 what about our vaunted healthcare system? Well, we're paying more just on our credit card interest

00:23:03.740 payment on the stupid debt than we're paying technically for healthcare. Right. If our credit

00:23:09.760 rating diminishes, that goes up in the same way that you can't borrow at a good rate, if you've got

00:23:18.220 bad credit, this would be results basically in the country of Canada having bad credit. So that means

00:23:26.080 that our interest rate is higher. Our borrowing rate becomes higher. So this is why that's really

00:23:33.320 important. And so at this point, I'm hoping that Carney with his PhD from Oxford and economics

00:23:42.520 really does have good connections with smart fiscal minded people around the world. I truly hope this

00:23:51.080 because they need to talk to him and sober him up and say, no, bro, you can't do this. Um, I know what

00:23:58.360 you said during the election or whatever, I don't care what he has to say. Um, he, he can't screw up

00:24:03.680 our credit rating worse than it is right now. He needs to completely pull back on this crazy spending

00:24:09.420 plan and adding to the debt plan. He calls it investing. Countries only have taxpayers' money.

00:24:17.420 Investing is spending. Okay. It's the, he cannot separate his operating budget from his capital budget.

00:24:23.700 It's all taxpayers' money. It's all spending. So he needs to actually have a serious sober second

00:24:29.620 thought and look at this line by line, talk to really good financial advisors and figure out how

00:24:36.140 to stay on this side of the black so that we aren't nailed with higher interest costs as taxpayers.

00:24:42.980 But yeah, that is, that's a real possibility. Yeah. And then it becomes a fiscal hole. We just

00:24:49.220 cannot dig ourselves out of, uh, now let's talk about what's happening in Alberta. We're recording

00:24:54.640 this on Wednesday and we'll go to air on Wednesday, late Tuesday afternoon. Didn't even give Carney 24

00:25:00.540 hours. Madam premier Daniel Smith just actually made the citizens initiative act a usable law in this

00:25:12.220 province because before it wasn't, um, she made it so that just 10% of eligible voters in the province. 0.99

00:25:24.060 So that may vary depending on population, but 10% of eligible voters could, if within 90 days,

00:25:30.640 sign a petition to petition the province, to allow Albertans to hold a referendum on, uh, separation,

00:25:38.840 independence. I don't know what that looks like, but it actually became something that is

00:25:44.980 surmountable instead of the prior iteration of the law, which was designed to fail. Uh,

00:25:52.320 tell me what you think about that. So the taxpayers federation, we are the Canadian taxpayers

00:25:58.120 federation. So we were national. So we aren't taking a telling people what to think about this,

00:26:05.100 what the question would be on a referendum. However, as far as the mechanisms of direct

00:26:10.580 democracy and having referendums, we're all over that. We love that. Um, we think that we need lower

00:26:17.340 taxes, less waste and accountable government. And often the way to achieve those three things

00:26:22.420 is to have smaller, more local government that is responsive to you. And a great way to hold

00:26:29.600 governments to account, of course, is through referendums. So for folks who are watching outside

00:26:34.900 of Alberta, love you guys, always tune in, share, send this to your friends. Um, in Alberta,

00:26:41.800 we have a lot of direct democracy. Yeah, we can have voter recall at the provincial level

00:26:47.560 and at the municipal level and at the school board level if we really want to. So that's a big deal.

00:26:55.080 We have to have a referendum. I'll put it this way. We have the Taxpayer Protection Act.

00:27:01.180 Right. And if for some reason the government wanted to raise our taxes or introduce new ones,

00:27:07.300 they would need to win a referendum from the people to do that. Right.

00:27:11.480 Which is amazing. Right. So yeah, that's, that's direct democracy. We love that because it gets people
