00:00:00.000 Could you survive an international cancel culture mob and come out the other side at the top of
00:00:20.500 your game 10 years later? I'm Sheila Gunn-Reed and you're watching The Gunn Show.
00:00:30.000 he's a regular guest on the show and he's a real life friend of mine but did you know 10 years ago
00:00:48.060 robbie picard from oil sand strong and oil and gas world magazine found him at the center of one
00:00:53.880 of Canada's biggest cultural war firestorms after a controversial pro-oil advertisement
00:01:01.180 on Facebook exploded across the internet. The backlash at Robbie came fast. It was undeserved
00:01:09.660 and the headlines came even faster. And for my friend Robbie, although he wasn't my friend at
00:01:16.280 the time, it became a crash course in who would stand beside him when the pressure was on.
00:01:21.560 The controversy generated wide-scale criticism, and Robbie was cancelled by his friends at the behest of his enemies.
00:01:32.360 Now, Robbie said he only intended to draw attention to the human rights abuses faced by LGB communities in Saudi Arabia, rather than demean anyone.
00:01:42.900 Now, a decade later, my buddy Robbie's still fighting. He's found out who his friends are, but now his battle is over Alberta's energy future, squarely, actually, on coal.
00:01:56.960 As celebrities and environmental activists ramp up their campaigns against the proposed
00:02:02.380 grassy mountain coal project, Robby has become one of its most outspoken defenders, arguing
00:02:09.220 that the mine represents jobs, families, and economic opportunity for Southern Alberta.
00:02:15.980 And he's right.
00:02:17.420 So today on The Gun Show, Robby joins me to talk about surviving cancellation before cancel
00:02:22.200 culture was even a household phrase.
00:02:24.200 what he learned about loyalty and friendship when the outrage mob came for him and why he's
00:02:29.360 putting himself once again in the line of fire to defend Grassy Mountain and the jobs of the
00:02:34.300 Crow's Nest Pass. Take a listen. So joining me now is good friend of the show and actually my real
00:02:40.900 life good friend Robbie Picard from Robbie Picard Media and Oil and Gas World Magazine and I wanted
00:02:47.920 to have Robbie on the show because I noticed last week that we had had an anniversary of
00:02:54.340 our friendship um 10 years of friendship and we became friends over cancel culture so I'll let
00:03:04.460 you explain how that came to be um I was just kind of uh I was still with Canada Action at the time
00:03:11.800 and I have my own page called Canada Oil Sounds Community.
00:03:16.060 And I made a post about lesbians.
00:03:18.600 In Canada, lesbians are considered hot.
00:03:20.480 In Saudi Arabia, if you're a lesbian, you die.
00:03:22.400 Why are we getting oil from countries that don't think lesbians are hot?
00:03:25.400 Choose equality, choose Canadian oil.
00:03:27.740 And that post, I've had weird feelings about it over the years,
00:03:32.900 but that post literally changed the course of my life.
00:03:36.160 It actually was why I started Oil Sounds Strong.
00:03:38.360 um and uh through all of the ups and downs of that post if you still google it like there's
00:03:45.000 people who actually did their phd thesis on me and there was a there's thousands and thousands
00:03:52.680 of comments on it um but in my darkest hour um my i was i was you know 10 years ago i wasn't
00:04:00.840 quite as media savvy as i am now and my little media company was more of a social media company
00:04:06.200 It wasn't, you know, like the point where we have a magazine and interviewing world leaders and, you know, so it was a, I wasn't sure what to do.
00:04:14.520 And I got some praise, but then I got a lot of hate and people, the best part of it was I instantaneously knew who my friends were because they cut me out like a knife.
00:04:25.440 And I've met all those people who within seconds turned on me, even if they didn't agree with like, you know, some of my friends didn't agree with it or whatever, but they didn't ditch me as a friend.
00:04:37.360 But in my darkest hour, I remember because I spent quite a good time with Ezra before that.
00:04:43.480 I hosted Ezra multiple times in Fort McMurray, but I didn't know Sheila.
00:04:47.900 So I just remember I was defeated.
00:04:51.440 I was, my house burnt down like a couple months earlier and we were back in McMurray and I was living in this, I could only get a trailer.
00:05:00.720 It wasn't the nicest trailer.
00:05:02.280 I needed a place to rent until I figured out if I was building or not.
00:05:06.120 And I had my two dogs, Shada and Boston, and I was cuddling with them under the blanket, hiding from the world.
00:05:12.880 I literally was covered up in the blanket.
00:05:15.320 And I got a notification from Twitter that Sheila Gunray did a video.
00:05:20.620 and oh fuck for the first minute I was terrified I thought because I've seen I've seen what Sheila
00:05:25.620 can do if she's pissed off at people so I was like oh I was I was like whoa and I didn't so
00:05:34.640 then I kind of gave I had I remember I had a lemonade and I okay I got up and then I watched
00:05:39.320 the video and you defended me and you didn't just defend me you like and that was the moment you and
00:05:45.740 I became friends I reached out and I and you actually I want to thank you like you kind of
00:05:50.260 you saved me because i needed that little bit of boost i mean not to be arrogant but at that time
00:05:58.540 and even now i'm one of the you know top oil sands advocates and um uh my team and more me at the
00:06:06.080 time we were the reason i little sense took off and you know and to go through all of the ups and
00:06:12.560 downs of that traveling doing things and then literally having everyone around you that you
00:06:18.640 spent years working with building and they just literally cut you off over a post it was definitely
00:06:25.360 an eye-opening experience for me you know what i mean it it it was definitely it was definitely
00:06:32.640 eye-opening and uh so you know like uh i since then i've obviously recovered and we're doing very
00:06:39.520 very well and things are good but i will never thank you from the bottom of my heart i'll never
00:06:43.600 forget that moment because that if it wasn't for that moment i might have just given up advocacy
00:06:49.920 you know what i mean and and but you i think you know one of the things people don't understand
00:06:55.280 when you're fighting for this type of thing not so much now now it's a bit of an easier fight
00:07:00.000 but i was one of the first the trailblazers and you put yourself at risk and you can make a post
00:07:06.880 that you think hey this is going to be great and it doesn't resonate the same but the one thing i
00:07:13.520 learned is loyalty is the most important thing and you've got to be loyal to people who got you
00:07:19.120 there the people who surround you and if you if they do something and you don't necessarily agree
00:07:26.160 with it you definitely don't attack them or throw them under the bus because that could be you in a
00:07:31.520 very different situation so no it was a i'm thrilled about the fact that uh you know that
00:07:38.560 I'm still standing and I'm definitely grateful for our friendship yeah me too I didn't know
00:07:45.940 anything about you at the time I had never met you but what I saw was a social media pile on
00:07:52.960 and I saw the people that you had worked with the people whose success I think you built
00:07:58.320 jettisoning you like you were garbage because they were listening to the other side like
00:08:03.880 i saw your friends siding with mike hadima yeah from greenpeace who would have loved nothing
00:08:11.600 better than to silence you and all i knew was i didn't like what was happening i knew it was wrong
00:08:17.460 and i needed to say something and ezra said yeah get it out of your system so i did a video on it
00:08:24.080 and i guess the moral of the story is when you stand up and and and you defend what you think
00:08:29.280 is right um you don't know who you're helping along the way you don't know the impact that
00:08:34.160 you're going to have on those people along the way and frankly look at you now like interviewing
00:08:39.360 jean chretien yes yeah you're right 100 and and that interview was quite telling and uh uh yeah
00:08:47.460 no i and and the the thing i learned is like i like i it wasn't fun the part you know to be
00:08:54.060 be honest with you i can live with the like the i still look at some of i find them hilarious like
00:09:00.140 i mean it was pages and pages and pages um it's still probably the most that or jade fondo was
00:09:08.140 either two of the most viral things i've done um jade fondo was a couple months later you know what
00:09:13.660 i mean six months later right and that anniversary is coming up right now but the best part was is
00:09:19.340 that you know you you I didn't give I didn't give up on myself and I and but
00:09:29.960 even even at the time if you think back even Ezra we were worried what was
00:09:34.280 that they're gonna think you know what would happen and that was a defining
00:09:39.320 motive and advocacy and I think that's when the kind of the real advocates came
00:09:43.640 out and then the split kind of happened and then there and then it morphed into
00:09:48.800 many things over the time but yeah now the oil and gas world magazine is highly successful our
00:09:54.240 reach on social it's never been higher we're almost at a half a million followers you know
00:10:00.160 what i mean so we're just we're just shy of that and it's come a long way but the one that i learned
00:10:05.120 is like don't don't eat your own don't give up on your own if someone on your team does something
00:10:11.520 you know at least support or stay silent you know what i mean unless it's catastrophic but i know
00:10:18.000 i'm actually noticing that in the states a lot right now like where they're turning on each
00:10:21.920 other a little bit and it's like i think the cause i think we if you go back like the so
00:10:27.840 i've been doing this since 2014 so it's almost 12 years but on my own 10 exactly the the lesbian
00:10:33.680 posts literally and the beauty of that lesbian post is i i'm not working for anyone else i have
00:10:38.720 my own media company i have my own magazine and i'm still doing what i love um so sometimes a
00:10:43.920 good thing comes out of that um and then the best part though is like the people that were my dear
00:10:49.760 friends um they uh i'm glad because i i honestly the ones that really came at me i just ignored
00:10:58.640 and now they messaged me i had a phone call it's really funny after jane fonda not going to say
00:11:02.640 who it is but jane fonda was a major success and in our world i i mean i i basically kicked out a
00:11:09.520 you know a multi-millionaire celebrity mile-high club ex of a billionaire hypocrite out of fort
00:11:16.320 mcmurray and managed to get half the indigenous people here to denounce her visit i mean i just
00:11:20.880 that is huge right including not only to be candid um and then after that was so successful
00:11:26.720 um the person that was the most vocal against me about that post messaged me immediately let's team
00:11:32.640 up let's team up let's do t-shirts let's do this let's do that and i thought well where the hell
00:11:37.280 were you when i was down you know what i mean so yeah so anyway you know it's a happy anniversary
00:11:43.120 we'll have to go for dinner and have some keto diet maybe we'll have some like uh you know
00:11:49.200 cake with splenda or something and bake it a little bit better yeah we'll have steak with butter
00:11:57.760 you know what i'm i'm so glad you didn't give up because as you said shortly thereafter jane
00:12:03.120 fonda tried to visit fort murray to you know spread mistruths and use her prominence to destroy
00:12:10.800 that community and you were there and hollywood has never come back no after you ran rid of town
00:12:17.840 the only small exception to that was greta tunberg and she hid from me because they they were so
00:12:28.000 scared i was going to confront her and they kept her visit so quiet so no the celebrities don't
00:12:32.560 have come and if the celebrities came with good intentions and give them a tour and even if they
00:12:37.220 had a different opinion i'd support them but if they're gonna come and try to do what leo did or
00:12:42.240 i'll take them down and it's not you know that's not hard to do like there's not a single corner
00:12:47.500 that they can go in that i won't know they're here so it's pretty good that's right now i want
00:12:53.920 to talk to you about the fight for cole in alberta because even though corb lund who's a country folk
00:13:02.240 musician whose music i actually quite like um he has been leading the charge against the
00:13:08.960 grassy mountain coal mine and the christmas pass his petition to trigger a province-wide
00:13:17.840 referendum on this failed yeah i think he's going to seek a judicial review yes because he's a sore
00:13:26.800 loser but as you pointed out to me in earlier interviews the community has already had a
00:13:33.720 plebiscite on this why does the rest of the province get a say on this why do these out of
00:13:39.440 jurisdiction musicians get to determine what a small town has already decided for themselves
00:13:47.880 see i think i've been thinking i'm actually i'm going to turn off this fan because it's just
00:13:53.440 stuff. I think that's better. Much better.
00:14:13.040 I think that's better. Okay, so to answer your question about
00:14:19.960 But to answer your question about the say, here's the situation when it comes to the say.
00:14:33.420 I think BC's largest export is coal, and they're pre-established in their minds, you know what I mean?
00:14:43.900 So they don't really seem to care about Alberta getting a piece.
00:14:51.280 If you cross that border, you know, a lot of people that live in Blairmoor,
00:14:56.360 in that Crosness Pass area, they work in B.C., right?
00:15:00.140 So that town is dying.
00:15:03.040 They did manage to, Northback had to make some moves,
00:15:07.480 and they took part of a golf course.
00:15:09.320 And then they built them a beautiful clubhouse,
00:15:11.280 one of the nicest golf courses in all of Canada.
00:15:13.900 So there's a lot of benefit to that, but I believe it has a lot to do with these really, really rich ranchers that are kind of not wanting to lose any of their sort of lease space.
00:15:28.260 and so they've got core kind of convinced this is going to be a water crisis which it's not
00:15:34.080 it's actually going to take a community and really help them take them out of poverty
00:15:39.900 build an industry so they can stay in their community and so they're having to drive in
00:15:44.660 an hour and a half to bc to work in those coal mines and to work the exact same job it worked
00:15:50.400 the exact same job and have to drive a little further and the vast majority of people in that
00:15:55.220 community want the coal mine they want the coal mine they they really want to have a little bit
00:16:00.560 they want to have some dignity and they want to have you know a future for their kids so I've
00:16:05.700 been spending quite a bit of time there um the and the thing with Corb is as we know he's not
00:16:11.680 gonna give up he's not gonna he he lost I had a feeling that the way they were doing those signings
00:16:19.220 was just so bizarre and unorganized.
00:16:23.000 And I had a funny feeling it wouldn't have worked anyway.
00:16:27.080 But regardless, you know what I mean?
00:16:28.520 I'm all for democracy.
00:16:30.260 But what I wanna see is Alberta in some ways
00:16:34.920 has never been in a better position to promote ourselves.
00:16:37.740 Everybody wants energy.
00:16:39.440 Coal, we all made a mistake, myself included.
00:16:43.460 And I think this is why coal in Alberta is kind of,
00:16:46.640 no one talks about it in BC.
00:16:47.940 You can say it a hundred times.
00:16:49.620 No one gives BC's number one export is coal, and they've got a great coal industry, and good for them.
00:16:54.780 I support their industry.
00:16:56.580 But in Alberta, when we're trying to get pipelines approved, trying to get oil and gas,
00:17:01.740 trying to get the reputation that was so damaged by the so-called environmentalists from Milagong, Leonardo DiCaprio,
00:17:10.680 and that plastic fossil Jane Fonda, we somehow shit on coal.
00:17:17.940 we like we in my early days of advocacy i wasn't out there saying build coal or when they shut
00:17:24.820 down all the coal mines in um outside of edmonton um parkland county and all that it wasn't like i
00:17:34.060 was there like saying hey stop this right and i think that's why we have a little catch-up to do
00:17:39.700 in alberta coal is as important as important as any other of the industries and we need to defend
00:17:45.220 it so i've changed the my name of the magazine to oil gas and coal world i am proud to support coal
00:17:52.580 i'm interviewing people and i'm not gonna let one energy source you know what i mean somehow
00:17:59.380 be better than the other one each energy source has their purpose you know and i think that that's
00:18:04.980 what i've done and it's been getting great support and unfortunately for corb i think he's you know
00:18:11.460 he's i think he's sort of
00:18:18.740 lacking relevance and i think this adds a little relevance to him and i and i wish he'd just stick
00:18:25.300 to seeing because he's actually damaging families in alberta and the one thing that i find really
00:18:30.500 funny is the complete lack of empathy that they have towards people losing their homes and jobs
00:18:39.140 yeah i mean it feels as though he burned his base for no reason i mean corb's biggest song
00:18:45.440 is about uh the men of the oil patch and you are right the same arguments being made against coal
00:18:54.640 were the same ones made against the oil and gas sector the oh everyone downstream is going to
00:18:59.660 get cancer and it's going to poison the water and it's environmental destruction and oh the
00:19:03.660 greenhouse gas emissions it's all the same and they won't stop until they win so they they have
00:19:12.060 almost won on coal when they're done there they'll take those arguments back to oil and gas they will
00:19:17.260 yeah and we can't tolerate it so we need to fight back and stand up and i interviewed a few people
00:19:23.940 there but i'm headed back there and i'm going to be spending quite a time time there i'm actually
00:19:27.480 going to bring my camper and interview a lot of people and i'm even going to interview there's
00:19:31.560 about a handful of people in that community that actually don't support it i'll hear them out and
00:19:36.040 talk to them but um the way i see it is is that alberta has never been in a better place to
00:19:42.200 provide energy for the world and we need to understand that and none of energy is going
00:19:48.120 anywhere they're they're opening new coal mines every single day this so-called green energy thing
00:19:54.840 did not work out they all know it now germany's going back to coal like why we can what i really
00:20:02.360 think needs to happen the one thing that that justin trudeau said that he never did um i
00:20:10.760 believe that if we want a greener planet we have to look at it from a different perspective
00:20:17.240 destroying people's livelihoods and taking away their jobs and their future that makes everything
00:20:24.440 far worse but if you plant proper trees in cities and maintain them if you reforest with
00:20:31.320 with proper intent if you find innovative ways to like take water and repurpose it like they're
00:20:38.440 doing in some desert parts now where they're actually like you can have it all if you work
00:20:43.880 together i am not a believer that coal or fossil fuels is damaging the planet i i don't believe
00:20:51.560 that i think excess pollution garbage management you if you look at the dominion or the the haiti
00:20:58.840 and then the dominican republic which is basically on the other side one side clean beautiful water
00:21:04.440 the other side trash and plastic what is that from that's from pollution that's from bad waste
00:21:10.680 management garbage not being handled um i look at like you know if we can develop these coal mines
00:21:17.400 and find ways to make sure they filter and they make wonderful steel and they provide jobs and
00:21:22.200 families and we continuously improve on it why not so i just think that and we if we if we're
00:21:30.120 if people in alberta have not learned that greenpeace and jane fonda and all these people
00:21:36.360 they don't care about us leonardo caprio came to fort chip 10 years ago a little more than 10
00:21:42.120 years ago okay now for chip if you go up there you it's beautiful for chip right well has he come
00:21:47.400 back where's the savior like he was expecting it to be a complete and utter dump it what it's not
00:21:54.680 it is gorgeous it's a gorgeous community does it have problems yes but they're but it's gorgeous
00:22:01.320 and that's these celebrities they don't care they come up for their little picture and that has
00:22:06.280 Jane Fonda, since big scary gay Robbie took her out of town, has she come back to, right?
00:22:14.700 No.
00:22:15.700 So the celebrities don't care about your family, your children, your homes, the college education
00:22:24.660 that these oil jobs pay for, the prosperity, the mom-and-pa restaurants, they don't care
00:22:29.480 about none of that.
00:22:31.140 No, but we do.
00:22:32.820 When you go back to Crow's Nest Pass, please let me know because I'll come.
00:22:35.660 I'll let you know. It might be sooner than you think. It's coming pretty quicker. I'll give you
00:22:39.120 an update on that. Okay, perfect. Robbie, I know you're very busy and I sprung this interview on
00:22:45.740 you with short notice. So I just want to invite you to let people know how they can see your
00:22:51.280 advocacy work and support your advocacy work because you have really built your entire presence
00:22:59.060 from the ground up twice um okay so um go to oilandgasworld.ca sign up for our magazine we
00:23:09.060 have uh we have john crutch on the cover we're working on a major major interview for the
00:23:14.440 september issue we try to do one a month but truthfully we're um we're doing one every two
00:23:21.380 months but i've done something completely different um the entire planet when it comes
00:23:26.440 to print is going really cheap on print. We're done the opposite. So this is a coffee table book
00:23:32.300 and it has, it's going to have about, each issue is going to have about 400 pages and all the
00:23:38.020 interviews are going to be in there with a nice hardcover. Listen to this. You hear that? That's
00:23:42.620 quality, right? And obviously we have the digital interviews online and everything, but eventually
00:23:49.220 we're going to let, we're going to let people buy these for about five bucks and that will support
00:23:53.540 us now if they can't afford the five bucks we'll mail to them for free but i want to provide i
00:23:58.820 think what we've done with this with the magazine this is 16th issue um and i've done all the i'm
00:24:04.180 tearing up i'm emotional today i i've done all the interviews myself um my writers write them
00:24:09.700 and i'm so proud of it so this is like a storybook of of the advocacy and and so it's more than just
00:24:15.540 a magazine the it's a it's a history and we try to be as non-partisan as we can and one of the
00:24:22.420 reasons I wanted to interview Jean-Claude Chan was because Jean-Claude Chan is the reason that
00:24:26.820 oil sands started because they invested 300 billion dollars so back before Trudeau it was a
00:24:34.740 little more oil and gas was not a horrible thing and that initial investment changed the entire
00:24:42.980 country now the part that I found fascinating here in my interview with him was he didn't hold back
00:24:48.340 on how important alberta is and how alberta is taken for granted and i wanted hearing that
00:24:54.180 it's important because we contribute as a province 20 some billion more than we take in
00:25:00.420 and it's something that they like this the the very city that i'm in has literally supported
00:25:07.460 that whole country and it was nice to get him to acknowledge that you know what i mean so i'm very
00:25:11.780 proud of that issue and then go to robbypricard.com click to follow me and yeah please like uh just
00:25:20.660 help it helps me get the reach out that we need yes thank you because i believe you're doing
00:25:26.500 important work on behalf of families just like mine robbie i think we're going to do a road trip
00:25:31.620 together and i can't wait thanks for coming on the show we will speak soon you have a good one
00:25:35.380 thank you sheila well as you know last portion of the show goes to you at home because without you
00:25:39.620 you there really is no rebel news if you have your feedback on the show today that i did with
00:25:45.300 my friend robbie picard from oil sands strong and oil and gas and coal world magazine you can send
00:25:52.080 it to me at sheila at rebelnews.com and apologies for the audio there um next time i talk to robbie
00:25:58.280 we'll make sure that it is better um today's viewer feedback comes to me from the comment
00:26:04.100 section on my friend Tamara Ugolini's video about the controversy surrounding the Edmonton City
00:26:10.900 Police and their anti-hate speech campaign. They released a video last weekend where they detailed
00:26:21.840 what could amount, at least in their view, to hate speech and calling on people to report it to a
00:26:30.560 snitch line but that's not where their little anti-hate speech campaign ended there are edmonton
00:26:36.220 city buses wrapped in campaign graphics for the hate speech campaign now the problem with all of
00:26:45.400 this is none of the things that they pointed out in their video were actually hate speech no calls
00:26:51.200 to genocide no calls for violence towards an identifiable group many of the little snippets
00:27:01.220 of social media postings showed people calling for deportations perhaps of temporary foreign
00:27:10.180 workers or temporary foreign students who had overstayed their visas which is actually what's
00:27:16.300 supposed to happen but according to the Edmonton City Police if you express that well off to the
00:27:21.180 hate speech gulag for you uh it's even gone so far as the premier has spoken out about it in
00:27:28.660 an ex post and our public safety minister mike ellis is now looking into the uk style policing
00:27:38.180 being floated by the edmonton city police and as i've said on the daily live stream i'm not a
00:27:44.100 defund the police kind of girl in fact I'd like to give them more money but to deal with actual
00:27:51.840 crime because crime is way up in the city of Edmonton I don't want to give it to social media
00:27:57.400 cry bullies and to buy advertising telling you to snitch on your neighbors if you question
00:28:04.600 out of control immigration and the lack of deportations of people who have overstayed
00:28:10.300 they're welcome they're temporary welcome by the way temporary means not forever in our country
00:28:15.980 so let's go to the comment section on Tamera's video shall we LZGP writes what on earth is
00:28:21.240 going on in this world it's unbelievable is it though this is the way of every progressive city
00:28:27.300 in the western world happens in the UK all the crazy cities in the United States New York LA
00:28:36.160 now Edmonton and I I wonder if Calgary is any better if Calgary got this bad idea I hope they
00:28:45.600 forgot this bad idea after seeing what just happened with the pushback in Edmonton where
00:28:51.240 the post was deleted now the snitch line the link to the snitch line doesn't really go anywhere
00:28:57.100 hopefully they learned a lesson but these people someone needs to lose their job actually
00:29:03.500 x2fury writes they'll push this garbage but will do basically nothing about the numerous
00:29:09.820 people jonathan yaniv that's uh a radical trans activist is stalking both online and in person
00:29:19.760 the people at that police department were behind or who were behind this crap should all be fired
00:29:24.640 i think the point here is you know not even about this specific one individual but edmonton has a
00:29:30.900 real crime problem and those are just the statistics crime is going up please do not
00:29:37.360 expend police resources on turning free speech into another crime just deal with the real crimes
00:29:46.040 let's do that first and that other stuff never because objectionable speech is still free speech
00:29:54.600 and there's a very high bar that defines hate speech in canada and none of the stuff that
00:30:00.480 they pointed out even comes close wide sky 71 says ah yes censorship and free speech suppression
00:30:07.640 the cornerstones of any nutritious dictatorship yes miss p buttons 3602 says it doesn't only
00:30:16.400 stifle speech it leads to stifled thought which leads to suicide by sympathy yeah um
00:30:23.140 that's the consequence of this sort of stuff is that not only is it does it criminalize the
00:30:30.160 speech that has taken place but people then begin to self-censor for things that should never be
00:30:37.640 criminal you you could hurt someone's feelings on the internet you can do that it's not illegal
00:30:43.960 edmonton police brass don't seem to know that but it is the truth and premier smith has pointed out
00:30:50.660 as much bosco 1776 says as one great lady said worry about our streets not our tweets exactly
00:30:59.900 Mike's LZ7JM says so does this mean on Al-Quds Day and during pro-Palestine rallies they're going
00:31:09.580 to be arresting people oh come on we don't do that around here it would be about time what
00:31:15.520 about burning Canadian flags I would call that a hate crime 100 percent I don't even it's not
00:31:21.640 illegal to burn a flag um but yes if you go to those pro-Palestinian rallies especially in the
00:31:29.540 early days now they sort of tempered off in alberta um because we seem to be less crazy
00:31:36.060 for now than toronto montreal vancouver but there were obvious open calls to genocide
00:31:45.580 which is hate speech that does meet the bar from the river to the sea is a call to genocide
00:31:53.660 what are you going to do with all the people from the river to the sea
00:31:57.840 from the jordan to the mediterranean where do they go and who are they right now
00:32:05.720 one more two more let's say jeff hayes 1968 come and get me millions must go yeah what are you
00:32:14.840 gonna do arrest everybody who's expressing concerns about the state of the immigration
00:32:21.300 system in this country and start arresting our mps now because they're bringing it up in committee
00:32:26.880 or even cbsa officials who are like yeah we got to track these people down
00:32:32.740 they're saying it in committee you're gonna go get them robert lawson 698 says are these the same
00:32:40.380 police that want to collect everyone's prohibited firearms well they won't be doing that around here
00:32:45.280 they might be doing it in other jurisdictions but once again our premier has been explicitly clear
00:32:51.800 We will not be expending police resources on that sort of thing.
00:32:55.480 And I think Mike Ellis is on notice, our public safety minister, that he should have an eye out for rogue police forces who are just making up their own laws as they go.
00:33:10.960 Well, everybody, I think that's it.
00:33:12.580 That's the show for today.
00:33:13.420 Thank you so much for tuning in.
00:33:14.780 Happy anniversary to my friend-iversary, to my friend Robbie Picard.
00:33:19.720 we'll see everybody back here in the same time in the same place next week and as always
00:33:24.140 don't let the government tell you that you've had too much to think
