00:00:00.000 Feel like Ottawa's got its boot on Alberta's neck?
00:00:03.640 Well, it's time to push back.

00:00:07.480 Saturday, June 14th at the Red Deer Curling Centre.
00:00:10.380 Spend the day with Ezra Levant, me, Sheila Gunn-Reed,
00:00:13.540 and a powerhouse lineup of freedom fighters,
00:00:16.020 political thinkers, and grassroots leaders.
00:00:18.680 We're talking energy, free speech,
00:00:20.520 and especially independence,
00:00:22.280 and how the West can finally stop getting screwed.
00:00:25.660 This isn't just a conference, it's a rallying cry.

00:00:33.740 Stand up, speak out, be there.
00:00:36.300 The Kearney Liberals are spending like drunken sailors,
00:00:38.480 but they forgot one small thing.
00:00:39.980 Oh, a federal budget.
00:00:41.400 I'm Sheila Gunn-Reed, and you're watching The Gunn Show.
00:00:58.380 Hart Kearney's brand-new government has committed
00:01:03.860 to spending tens of billions of dollars
00:01:06.560 on everything from meeting their NATO commitments,
00:01:10.080 finally, to a national gun confiscation program.
00:01:13.260 And they're doing it all without tabling a budget,
00:01:15.180 and we won't see one until late 2025.
00:01:18.100 That's not just reckless, it's unprecedented,
00:01:20.980 and it lacks complete and total transparency.
00:01:25.300 I think it violates the taxpayer trust.
00:01:28.120 On today's show, we're going to be also unpacking
00:01:30.660 how the provincial finance ministers are faring.
00:01:34.580 The Canadian Taxpayers Federation
00:01:35.860 has just issued their report cards.
00:01:38.920 Don't you want to know how Alberta did?
00:01:41.180 Then we'll talk about the Auditor General's
00:01:44.260 takedown of GC Strategies,
00:01:46.680 the shadowy firm at the heart of the Arrive Can scandal,
00:01:49.980 and the appointment of CBC's new president.
00:01:55.260 Chris Sims joins the show tonight.
00:01:57.320 She's the Alberta Director of the Taxpayers Federation.
00:02:00.440 In an interview we recorded yesterday morning.
00:02:03.400 Take a listen.
00:02:11.380 So joining me now is good friend of the show,
00:02:14.140 my personal good friend,
00:02:15.940 and good friend to taxpayers everywhere,
00:02:17.420 Chris Sims, the Alberta Director
00:02:18.860 of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
00:02:21.360 Chris, I wanted to have you on today
00:02:23.800 to talk about the macro issue
00:02:26.040 and then sort of the micro issue
00:02:28.380 of finances in this country.
00:02:32.480 And right off the top,
00:02:35.220 we aren't getting a budget anytime soon
00:02:38.560 from our new Prime Minister,
00:02:40.720 who is allegedly a finance guy.
00:02:42.240 And, by the way, sorry to interrupt,
00:02:45.180 all the same people.
00:02:46.560 So it's not like they have to figure out
00:02:48.220 how to learn on the job
00:02:49.520 before they get a budget going.
00:02:53.100 These are quite literally all the same people
00:02:54.860 from Justin Trudeau's cabinet.
00:02:56.220 So get to work, guys.
00:02:58.320 Yeah, exactly.
00:02:59.180 I love how you said sorry to interrupt
00:03:00.580 and it was talking to yourself.
00:03:02.620 That was my favorite part.
00:03:04.140 This is a mess.
00:03:07.140 Straight up, I know that
00:03:08.880 if there are still normies watching,
00:03:11.100 hello, interesting people watching.
00:03:13.700 If there are still normies watching,
00:03:15.700 it can be understandable
00:03:16.960 when you're like,
00:03:17.940 okay, he's new to the job.
00:03:20.680 Like, the physical human of Mark Carney
00:03:23.340 is new to the role of Prime Minister.
00:03:26.120 Okay, sure.
00:03:27.320 That's fine.
00:03:29.080 Dude also has a PhD in economics from Oxford.
00:03:32.060 He was also a central banker,
00:03:34.420 head of the Bank of Canada,
00:03:35.400 head of the Bank of England.
00:03:36.580 So he's been around an abacus before.
00:03:39.020 Okay, he knows the maths.
00:03:41.180 That said, you're right.
00:03:43.560 Wasn't he also the financial advisor
00:03:48.000 to the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada,
00:03:50.400 who by default is also the Prime Minister
00:03:52.380 of this country, for five years?
00:03:54.560 So it's not like he's like
00:03:55.660 just opening up the books for the first time.
00:03:58.760 He's the keeper of the books.
00:04:00.580 Yes, exactly.
00:04:01.380 And furthermore,
00:04:03.380 he's just the figurehead.
00:04:06.000 It is not Mark Carney
00:04:07.660 sitting up at night,
00:04:08.980 sharpening his pencil,
00:04:10.340 writing out the budget.
00:04:11.780 Further, it's not even the Cabinet Minister
00:04:14.460 with this clown car
00:04:16.060 of the same Cabinet Ministers
00:04:17.360 who are now paid
00:04:18.560 more than $300,000 per year plus perks.
00:04:21.400 It's the bureaucrats.
00:04:23.580 Right.
00:04:24.400 It's the same bureaucrats
00:04:26.680 within the Department of Treasury
00:04:28.440 and within the Department of Finance.
00:04:31.220 This is their entire job
00:04:33.340 to keep a running tally
00:04:35.400 of all of these columns.
00:04:37.260 So there are the ones that work out
00:04:39.700 all of the revenue by source,
00:04:42.220 okay,
00:04:42.780 all of the expense by function,
00:04:45.220 which is basically what a budget is.
00:04:47.320 You don't need to shove a whole bunch of,
00:04:48.880 you know,
00:04:49.640 social words in there.
00:04:51.000 It's really straight up.
00:04:52.500 How much money are we taking in
00:04:54.280 and from what sources?
00:04:55.720 How much money are we dishing out
00:04:57.660 and to whom?
00:04:59.220 That's it.
00:05:00.060 That's essentially what a budget is.
00:05:01.740 And you also need to figure out
00:05:03.200 if you've got a deficit,
00:05:04.420 how much that's adding to the debt.
00:05:06.160 And you need to calculate
00:05:07.400 your debt interest payments.
00:05:09.340 So it's kind of like
00:05:10.160 the big country credit card.
00:05:11.960 That's it.
00:05:12.640 That's a budget.
00:05:13.760 And so, yeah,
00:05:15.180 the pointy heads,
00:05:16.440 the smart kids
00:05:17.140 with the pocket protectors,
00:05:18.340 and I know there are some
00:05:19.220 in there in finance,
00:05:20.180 okay,
00:05:20.340 they got all this data.
00:05:22.420 They have all of this.
00:05:24.100 So, yes,
00:05:25.440 the short answer is
00:05:26.440 could they put out a budget?
00:05:27.900 Yes, they could.
00:05:29.280 Would it be as flowery
00:05:30.900 and fluffy
00:05:31.780 as, say,
00:05:32.980 a throne speech
00:05:33.940 and all of the little hopes
00:05:35.180 and pixie dust dreams
00:05:36.200 shoved into it?
00:05:37.240 No,
00:05:37.880 that takes a little while to write,
00:05:39.680 but you don't need
00:05:40.740 that stuff in there.
00:05:41.980 What we need
00:05:42.620 is a fiscal document.
00:05:44.680 That's all we need.
00:05:45.940 And unfortunately,
00:05:46.880 we're going to have to now
00:05:47.900 wait until the fall
00:05:49.100 to get it.
00:05:51.260 And that's crazy
00:05:52.200 because they're making
00:05:52.860 these wild spending
00:05:54.240 announcements right now.
00:05:55.400 And look,
00:05:55.740 I'm not one to say
00:05:57.380 that we shouldn't be meeting
00:05:59.760 our NATO spending commitments.
00:06:01.440 Of all the spending
00:06:02.240 the government does,
00:06:02.940 that's one of them
00:06:03.600 that I think is probably okay.
00:06:05.440 But they're making
00:06:06.260 these spending announcements
00:06:07.520 without a budget.
00:06:09.820 And these are billions
00:06:10.760 and billions of dollars
00:06:12.120 worth of spending announcements
00:06:13.660 without telling Canadians
00:06:16.040 where the money's coming from
00:06:18.080 and where it is actually going
00:06:19.380 at the end of the day.
00:06:20.340 Yeah,
00:06:20.960 it reminds me,
00:06:22.640 I don't like bringing
00:06:23.780 this time up,
00:06:24.460 but I'm going to keep
00:06:25.080 bringing it up
00:06:25.580 because nobody's been
00:06:26.480 held accountable for it.
00:06:27.700 It reminds me of back
00:06:29.140 in early 2020s time,
00:06:31.100 just as we're in lockdown.
00:06:32.700 Remember when the federal
00:06:33.860 government tried to say,
00:06:35.480 oh yeah,
00:06:36.000 and by the way,
00:06:36.740 we're not going to put out
00:06:37.780 a budget like ever again
00:06:39.240 and we're just going to spend
00:06:40.540 as much as we want
00:06:41.480 with no representation
00:06:43.100 in parliament?
00:06:44.120 Bye,
00:06:44.520 thank you.
00:06:45.220 They tried pulling that.
00:06:47.460 Right.
00:06:47.760 Like the feds tried pulling that.
00:06:50.040 Basically,
00:06:51.000 grant us unfettered spending power,
00:06:54.720 please,
00:06:55.240 parliament,
00:06:56.020 with no checks and balances.
00:06:57.920 Thank goodness cooler heads prevailed
00:06:59.720 and were like,
00:07:00.400 um,
00:07:00.660 no,
00:07:00.960 how about we don't actually
00:07:02.380 all jump off a cliff?
00:07:03.600 They still wound up
00:07:04.700 blowing a ton of money
00:07:05.940 and being terribly unaccountable
00:07:08.820 during that time,
00:07:09.840 but they actually tried
00:07:11.240 pulling that fast one.
00:07:13.020 So this is why
00:07:14.020 no matter what color
00:07:15.360 the jersey is,
00:07:16.440 if it's a red government
00:07:17.680 or a blue government,
00:07:18.460 it doesn't matter.
00:07:19.460 You need to stay on these folks
00:07:21.320 like white on rice
00:07:22.300 and say,
00:07:23.160 nope,
00:07:23.560 we need that fiscal document.
00:07:25.460 We need a budget.
00:07:26.580 You need to table it.
00:07:27.920 We need to be able to examine it
00:07:29.340 because otherwise
00:07:30.120 you wind up with
00:07:31.000 an unaccountable government
00:07:32.100 that is blowing money
00:07:33.540 left and right.
00:07:35.300 And that's what we have.
00:07:36.700 Yeah,
00:07:37.120 that's what we have.
00:07:38.080 That's exactly what we have.
00:07:39.700 I know.
00:07:39.980 What really,
00:07:41.080 again,
00:07:41.300 during the election campaign,
00:07:42.660 this truly,
00:07:43.800 it's hard to surprise me now.
00:07:46.160 I've been in the game too long,
00:07:47.860 soon seen too many stupid things,
00:07:49.720 but this truly surprised me
00:07:51.260 when Carney came out
00:07:52.420 and said,
00:07:53.120 I'm going to add more
00:07:55.400 to the debt
00:07:56.200 than Trudeau was planning to do.
00:07:58.840 Right.
00:07:59.440 That truly surprised me
00:08:01.020 because I thought
00:08:02.180 he was going to try
00:08:03.000 to take the tack of,
00:08:04.760 I'm the adult in the room.
00:08:06.200 I'm the one
00:08:06.940 that understands math.
00:08:08.160 I actually think of,
00:08:09.840 you know,
00:08:10.120 fiscal policy.
00:08:11.300 I know we can't grow
00:08:12.740 the economy
00:08:13.300 from the heart outwards.
00:08:14.500 I'm not going to show you
00:08:15.260 my socks.
00:08:16.580 I thought he was going
00:08:17.340 to be the kind of sober dude
00:08:18.960 of saying,
00:08:20.180 we got to get our books
00:08:21.000 back in order.
00:08:21.880 But no,
00:08:22.580 apparently the central banker
00:08:23.700 is going to be worse
00:08:24.640 with money
00:08:25.260 than the drama teacher.
00:08:26.560 That really surprised me.
00:08:28.660 And so I'm hoping
00:08:29.700 that he kind of,
00:08:31.660 you know,
00:08:32.440 mentally sobers up,
00:08:33.820 so to speak,
00:08:34.360 now that he's in the role
00:08:35.380 and looks around
00:08:36.420 is like,
00:08:36.800 I just can't stand
00:08:37.840 this inefficiency.
00:08:39.260 I'm not going
00:08:39.840 to do this anymore.
00:08:40.880 But so far,
00:08:41.720 we're not seeing it
00:08:42.460 because if he meant that,
00:08:43.640 we'd have a budget.
00:08:45.840 Right.
00:08:46.960 Right.
00:08:48.240 And speaking of
00:08:50.620 spending money
00:08:51.680 just, again,
00:08:54.460 with zero accountability,
00:08:56.040 it actually,
00:08:57.260 what chiefs of police
00:08:58.820 say will result
00:08:59.620 within zero
00:09:00.980 impact on violent crime.
00:09:05.020 We are seeing
00:09:05.740 the liberals
00:09:06.680 double,
00:09:08.020 triple,
00:09:08.520 quadruple down
00:09:09.560 on Justin Trudeau's
00:09:11.360 gun grab.
00:09:12.120 I knew this was coming
00:09:13.580 when they selected
00:09:15.320 Natalie Provo
00:09:16.420 from Polly Sissoufian
00:09:17.980 as their star candidate.
00:09:21.480 And so I knew
00:09:22.900 once you take someone
00:09:24.000 from Canada's
00:09:25.380 leading gun grab
00:09:27.180 organization
00:09:27.940 who quit
00:09:29.740 Trudeau's
00:09:30.400 gun grab panel
00:09:31.340 because it wasn't
00:09:32.020 grabbing Canadian
00:09:32.760 guns fast enough,
00:09:34.360 I knew
00:09:34.920 Canada's
00:09:37.480 firearms owning
00:09:38.280 community,
00:09:39.000 we were in
00:09:39.900 for an immediate
00:09:40.860 wild ride.
00:09:42.520 And from the
00:09:43.240 taxpayer's perspective,
00:09:44.540 whether or not
00:09:45.020 you own firearms,
00:09:46.360 you should care
00:09:47.980 about how your
00:09:48.920 money is being
00:09:49.600 spent with a
00:09:50.700 little to no
00:09:51.260 impact on rising
00:09:52.780 crime rates.
00:09:54.080 And it looks
00:09:55.580 like Trudeau's
00:09:57.540 gun grab,
00:09:58.380 which is now
00:09:58.860 Carney's gun
00:09:59.480 grab,
00:10:00.000 the cost is
00:10:00.820 going to be
00:10:01.160 approaching a
00:10:02.040 billion dollars
00:10:02.820 by the time
00:10:03.520 it's done.
00:10:04.340 I think it'll
00:10:04.800 be worse than
00:10:05.580 that,
00:10:06.540 with roughly
00:10:07.980 about a third
00:10:08.860 of a billion
00:10:09.480 dollars allocated
00:10:10.940 in the very
00:10:12.040 near future.
00:10:13.600 Yep.
00:10:15.040 It's one of
00:10:15.800 those things
00:10:16.300 where it feels
00:10:17.000 like,
00:10:17.520 what did they
00:10:17.880 say?
00:10:18.180 History doesn't
00:10:18.740 repeat itself,
00:10:19.440 but it does
00:10:19.820 rhyme.
00:10:20.580 Right.
00:10:21.420 It kind of
00:10:22.080 feels like that
00:10:22.860 in particular
00:10:23.600 with this gun
00:10:24.420 grab,
00:10:24.800 this confiscation,
00:10:25.680 people call it
00:10:26.660 the buyback.
00:10:27.340 I hear you.
00:10:28.000 I don't call it
00:10:28.500 a buyback either
00:10:29.160 because I did
00:10:29.800 not buy my
00:10:30.660 gun from the
00:10:31.300 government.
00:10:31.920 Right.
00:10:32.260 It is not the
00:10:32.760 government's
00:10:33.120 property.
00:10:33.580 Thank you very
00:10:33.980 much.
00:10:34.720 But the gun
00:10:35.420 grab,
00:10:35.960 it feels so
00:10:38.440 similar to the
00:10:39.760 long gun
00:10:40.120 registry.
00:10:40.840 Right.
00:10:41.660 So the so-called
00:10:42.740 long gun
00:10:43.200 registry for the
00:10:44.020 kids who are
00:10:44.440 watching and
00:10:45.020 good on you for
00:10:45.660 watching and
00:10:46.300 staying informed.
00:10:47.260 Please tell
00:10:47.680 your friends,
00:10:48.320 seriously spread
00:10:48.960 the word.
00:10:49.400 It's going to
00:10:49.660 be the young
00:10:50.040 people that save
00:10:50.780 us here.
00:10:51.520 Completely.
00:10:51.840 You know,
00:10:53.080 it's the gun
00:10:54.580 grab in the
00:10:55.120 1990s or the
00:10:56.320 long gun,
00:10:56.960 it was called
00:10:57.280 the long gun
00:10:57.880 registration.
00:10:59.300 And back then,
00:11:00.180 it was then also
00:11:01.160 a liberal
00:11:01.560 government.
00:11:02.160 It was under
00:11:02.520 then-liberal
00:11:03.160 prime minister
00:11:03.580 Jean Chrétien and
00:11:04.880 they had justice
00:11:05.880 and safety
00:11:06.360 ministers who
00:11:07.120 said,
00:11:07.580 we're going to
00:11:08.060 have a big
00:11:08.760 massive registry
00:11:09.720 of long guns.
00:11:10.940 Alan Rock.
00:11:11.820 Thank you,
00:11:12.560 Alan Rock.
00:11:13.160 Exactly.
00:11:14.780 And so,
00:11:15.600 again,
00:11:15.980 it was the
00:11:16.380 same level
00:11:17.000 of disconnect
00:11:17.620 between people
00:11:19.640 who actually
00:11:20.320 legally own
00:11:21.140 firearms and
00:11:22.100 use them as
00:11:22.860 the tools they
00:11:23.460 are versus
00:11:24.680 urbanites,
00:11:25.900 in this case,
00:11:26.680 Mr. Rock,
00:11:27.540 who don't
00:11:28.600 understand what
00:11:29.900 law-abiding
00:11:30.640 firearms owners
00:11:31.520 do and who
00:11:32.540 they are.
00:11:33.380 So what
00:11:33.760 happened is
00:11:34.400 they're like,
00:11:34.800 oh, we want
00:11:35.320 long guns
00:11:35.920 registered.
00:11:37.120 In this case,
00:11:37.780 for people who
00:11:38.460 don't know
00:11:38.860 guns, it
00:11:39.600 literally means
00:11:40.220 a long gun.
00:11:41.700 Right.
00:11:42.060 Not a handgun.
00:11:43.400 Not a handgun.
00:11:44.280 Anything but a
00:11:44.880 handgun.
00:11:45.660 Not handguns.
00:11:46.720 Not the ones
00:11:47.100 you see in the
00:11:47.560 movies with,
00:11:48.220 you know,
00:11:48.480 the cops and
00:11:48.980 robbers and
00:11:49.420 stuff.
00:11:49.660 No, like
00:11:50.320 rifles and
00:11:51.720 shotguns,
00:11:52.800 typically.
00:11:53.540 The ones that
00:11:54.460 ranchers would
00:11:55.180 keep on hand,
00:11:56.200 right, to deal
00:11:56.980 with pests and
00:11:58.400 also if they
00:11:59.020 ever needed to
00:11:59.580 put down a
00:12:00.100 suffering animal.
00:12:01.220 Also hunters,
00:12:02.420 if you're going
00:12:02.740 to go bag a
00:12:03.280 deer, you need
00:12:04.100 a rifle, usually
00:12:05.020 with a scope.
00:12:06.040 These are the
00:12:06.620 tools, okay, of
00:12:07.760 this trade.
00:12:09.060 The story goes,
00:12:10.420 they said, oh,
00:12:11.440 this is just
00:12:12.080 going to be one
00:12:12.700 of those simple
00:12:13.260 little things and
00:12:14.060 we're going to
00:12:14.360 get all the
00:12:14.780 farmers and
00:12:15.300 ranchers and
00:12:15.800 duck hunters to
00:12:16.600 write their name
00:12:17.320 and address and
00:12:18.320 which guns they
00:12:19.000 have on this
00:12:20.160 sheet of paper
00:12:21.080 and it's going
00:12:21.580 to be a
00:12:21.860 government
00:12:22.060 registry.
00:12:23.020 It's only
00:12:23.660 going to cost
00:12:24.440 around $2
00:12:25.180 million with
00:12:26.900 an M.
00:12:27.860 Fast forward,
00:12:29.320 nobody is
00:12:30.140 safer and
00:12:31.340 they wound up
00:12:31.940 spending close
00:12:32.600 to $2
00:12:33.240 billion.
00:12:35.880 For kids
00:12:36.760 keeping track
00:12:37.460 at home,
00:12:37.900 that's a
00:12:38.180 thousand times
00:12:38.860 more.
00:12:39.760 Like 30
00:12:40.180 years ago.
00:12:41.120 30 years
00:12:41.840 ago.
00:12:42.180 Imagine the
00:12:42.720 inflation.
00:12:43.100 I can't
00:12:43.660 even, I
00:12:44.080 don't want
00:12:44.340 to look.
00:12:45.420 And it
00:12:45.600 was one of
00:12:45.940 those silly
00:12:46.420 moments where
00:12:47.200 back then the
00:12:48.640 Reform Party
00:12:49.420 and then
00:12:50.620 eventually the
00:12:51.280 Canadian
00:12:51.600 Alliance were
00:12:52.700 all fighting
00:12:53.260 against it and
00:12:54.020 the Taxpayers
00:12:54.620 Federation, that's
00:12:55.520 when we got
00:12:55.940 really started in
00:12:56.740 1990.
00:12:57.840 This is one of
00:12:58.460 the things we
00:12:58.880 cut our teeth
00:12:59.360 on because we
00:13:00.220 said, you
00:13:00.880 know what,
00:13:01.580 this is not
00:13:02.120 going to make
00:13:02.480 people safer
00:13:03.100 because the
00:13:03.660 police say so.
00:13:05.120 And two,
00:13:05.600 you're going to
00:13:05.940 blow a ton of
00:13:06.540 money.
00:13:07.200 And they did.
00:13:07.800 That's exactly
00:13:08.280 what happened.
00:13:08.880 And now here
00:13:09.540 we are again.
00:13:11.180 Yeah.
00:13:11.500 And also
00:13:13.040 with a public
00:13:13.620 safety minister
00:13:14.320 who also has
00:13:15.160 no clue about
00:13:16.540 the law-abiding
00:13:17.460 firearms-owning
00:13:18.380 community, Gary
00:13:19.340 Anandasangari,
00:13:20.660 who has the
00:13:22.200 funnest name to
00:13:22.940 say, by the
00:13:23.620 way, has no
00:13:25.100 clue what the
00:13:27.400 licensing and
00:13:29.120 screening requirements
00:13:30.440 are for firearms
00:13:31.780 owners.
00:13:32.600 Our friend Andrew
00:13:33.560 Lawton, who is
00:13:34.840 now the MP in
00:13:36.500 London, well
00:13:37.260 deserved, I'm so
00:13:38.220 proud of him,
00:13:38.860 he really has
00:13:41.360 been an advocate
00:13:42.000 on this issue
00:13:42.640 for years
00:13:43.520 through his
00:13:43.980 journalism, and
00:13:44.600 now he's in the
00:13:45.160 House of Commons
00:13:45.980 fighting for the
00:13:47.220 law-abiding
00:13:47.820 firearms-owning
00:13:48.600 community, and
00:13:49.560 he exposed the
00:13:51.780 public safety
00:13:53.160 minister as
00:13:54.440 someone who has
00:13:55.240 absolutely no
00:13:56.020 clue about what
00:13:57.740 is required of
00:13:59.400 the firearms-owning
00:14:00.100 community to own
00:14:01.540 the firearms that
00:14:02.160 they have.
00:14:02.660 I think he just
00:14:03.500 thinks we could go
00:14:04.080 to Walmart and
00:14:04.820 just buy an
00:14:06.460 AR-15.
00:14:07.280 I think that's
00:14:07.780 how he thinks
00:14:08.200 it works.
00:14:08.860 I think so
00:14:09.700 too.
00:14:10.680 That, for folks
00:14:12.220 who haven't seen
00:14:13.060 it yet.
00:14:13.540 I'll show the
00:14:14.160 clip.
00:14:14.640 I'll show the
00:14:15.140 clip here.
00:14:16.000 Awesome.
00:14:16.560 ...have been
00:14:17.000 seized so far
00:14:18.000 under the
00:14:18.600 buyback
00:14:19.100 confiscation scheme.
00:14:20.840 The alma
00:14:21.080 minister.
00:14:21.900 A thousand.
00:14:23.380 The alma
00:14:24.000 member.
00:14:25.020 What was the
00:14:25.620 price per gun
00:14:26.580 that the
00:14:26.880 government paid
00:14:27.840 for these?
00:14:28.900 Minister.
00:14:29.900 I will be
00:14:30.180 able to get
00:14:30.500 back to my
00:14:31.320 colleague.
00:14:32.940 The alma
00:14:33.200 member.
00:14:33.480 How many
00:14:34.560 firearms does
00:14:35.760 the government
00:14:36.080 believe have
00:14:36.720 been prohibited
00:14:37.400 that will be
00:14:37.940 collected under
00:14:38.500 this confiscation
00:14:39.340 scheme?
00:14:40.100 Minister.
00:14:41.120 Anticipation is
00:14:41.800 about 179,000.
00:14:44.380 The honour
00:14:44.660 member.
00:14:45.940 Are all of
00:14:46.900 those firearms
00:14:47.460 semi-automatics?
00:14:48.640 The honour
00:14:48.920 minister.
00:14:50.340 I don't
00:14:50.840 believe so.
00:14:52.140 The honour
00:14:52.400 member.
00:14:53.420 What other
00:14:53.980 types of
00:14:54.420 firearms have
00:14:55.100 been banned
00:14:55.640 that the
00:14:56.020 government will
00:14:56.460 be seizing?
00:14:57.460 The honour
00:14:57.680 minister.
00:14:58.040 Those that
00:14:59.520 are scheduled
00:15:00.100 to be brought
00:15:02.440 back will
00:15:03.400 be removed.
00:15:04.860 I can't tell
00:15:05.280 you the specific
00:15:06.360 ones, but
00:15:07.200 they are in
00:15:08.380 the schedule.
00:15:09.380 The alma
00:15:09.520 member.
00:15:10.560 Does the
00:15:11.020 minister have
00:15:11.520 an RPAL?
00:15:12.960 The alma
00:15:13.400 minister.
00:15:16.380 Can you
00:15:16.980 repeat that
00:15:17.300 question?
00:15:18.240 The alma
00:15:18.460 member.
00:15:18.980 I'll
00:15:19.200 rephrase
00:15:19.620 the
00:15:19.700 chair.
00:15:19.900 Does the
00:15:20.140 minister know
00:15:20.540 what an
00:15:20.740 RPAL is?
00:15:21.900 The alma
00:15:22.100 minister.
00:15:22.940 I do
00:15:23.240 not.
00:15:24.320 The alma
00:15:24.600 member.
00:15:27.340 Does the
00:15:27.980 minister know
00:15:28.520 what the
00:15:28.920 CFSC is?
00:15:30.760 The alma
00:15:30.960 minister.
00:15:32.160 I do
00:15:32.720 not.
00:15:33.020 No.
00:15:33.640 Member.
00:15:34.780 I'll
00:15:35.000 stipulate,
00:15:35.540 chair, that
00:15:35.880 is the
00:15:36.160 Canadian's
00:15:36.700 firearm
00:15:37.020 safety course
00:15:37.740 that all
00:15:38.100 gun owners
00:15:38.500 in Canada
00:15:38.980 have to
00:15:39.360 do to
00:15:39.660 get their
00:15:39.960 firearms
00:15:40.380 license.
00:15:41.200 Has the
00:15:41.640 minister
00:15:41.820 ever done
00:15:42.280 the
00:15:42.420 Canadian
00:15:42.700 firearm
00:15:43.100 safety
00:15:43.440 course?
00:15:44.200 The
00:15:44.360 Hon.
00:15:44.440 Minister.
00:15:45.700 Speaker,
00:15:46.220 it's my
00:15:46.460 third week
00:15:46.940 on the
00:15:47.180 job.
00:15:47.600 No, I
00:15:47.860 have
00:15:48.020 not.
00:15:48.860 The
00:15:49.020 Hon.
00:15:49.140 Member.
00:15:50.340 Does the
00:15:50.940 minister know
00:15:51.420 what safety
00:15:52.080 classes and
00:15:52.900 safety
00:15:53.280 demands are
00:15:54.040 expected of
00:15:54.600 law-abiding
00:15:54.980 Canadian gun
00:15:55.580 owners?
00:15:55.860 This is
00:15:58.280 not about
00:15:58.720 law-abiding
00:15:59.280 gun
00:15:59.560 owners,
00:15:59.960 Mr.
00:16:00.160 Speaker.
00:16:00.980 The
00:16:01.260 Hon.
00:16:01.320 Member.
00:16:02.640 How can
00:16:03.060 the
00:16:03.160 minister make
00:16:03.580 that claim
00:16:04.000 when he
00:16:04.240 doesn't know
00:16:04.600 the basic
00:16:05.200 fundamentals of
00:16:06.080 law-abiding
00:16:06.500 gun
00:16:06.700 ownership in
00:16:07.180 this country,
00:16:07.740 Chair?
00:16:08.420 The
00:16:08.700 Hon.
00:16:08.840 Minister.
00:16:10.960 Mr.
00:16:11.600 Speaker,
00:16:12.200 the Bill
00:16:12.640 21 is
00:16:13.520 meant to
00:16:13.980 get serious
00:16:16.160 dangerous
00:16:17.060 weapons
00:16:17.580 off our
00:16:18.360 streets.
00:16:19.700 The
00:16:19.940 Hon.
00:16:20.040 Member,
00:16:20.460 very briefly
00:16:20.940 I'm just
00:16:21.260 confirming that
00:16:21.720 he's splitting
00:16:22.060 his time
00:16:22.380 three ways.
00:16:23.380 Chair,
00:16:23.740 will the
00:16:23.980 minister commit
00:16:24.600 to taking
00:16:25.120 the Canadian
00:16:25.620 Firearm Safety
00:16:26.360 Corps so
00:16:26.800 he'll know
00:16:27.120 what he's
00:16:27.380 talking about?
00:16:28.580 I'm a
00:16:28.920 minister.
00:16:29.940 Mr.
00:16:30.220 Speaker,
00:16:30.540 I do not
00:16:31.020 intend to
00:16:31.980 purchase a
00:16:32.680 firearm or
00:16:33.220 use a
00:16:33.560 firearm.
00:16:34.840 Brilliant.
00:16:35.780 Absolutely
00:16:36.260 brilliant.
00:16:36.980 If Lawton
00:16:37.520 keeps that
00:16:38.000 going,
00:16:38.640 then this is
00:16:39.120 going to be
00:16:39.400 a good
00:16:39.620 session.
00:16:40.320 Because we
00:16:41.400 need to
00:16:41.840 show that
00:16:43.000 these ministers
00:16:44.400 either know
00:16:46.240 or don't know
00:16:46.940 what they're
00:16:47.220 doing.
00:16:48.020 They either
00:16:48.420 know or
00:16:48.860 they don't
00:16:49.140 know what
00:16:49.360 they're
00:16:49.460 talking about.
00:16:50.320 This is
00:16:50.700 part of
00:16:50.960 accountable
00:16:51.280 government.
00:16:52.480 And when
00:16:52.740 you have a
00:16:53.260 minister in
00:16:53.780 charge of a
00:16:54.780 massive
00:16:55.440 confiscation of
00:16:56.420 private property,
00:16:57.540 especially from
00:16:58.540 one of the
00:16:59.260 most strict
00:17:00.140 law-abiding
00:17:00.840 communities in
00:17:02.000 Canada,
00:17:02.620 gun owners are
00:17:03.960 uptight.
00:17:05.040 We follow
00:17:05.520 rules.
00:17:05.840 Very.
00:17:06.620 Big time.
00:17:08.160 And for this
00:17:09.020 minister just to
00:17:09.880 be floundering
00:17:10.720 around not
00:17:11.500 having a
00:17:12.120 schmick about
00:17:13.240 how this works
00:17:14.160 is surprising.
00:17:15.820 For folks who
00:17:16.480 don't have their
00:17:17.100 firearms licenses,
00:17:18.660 you have to
00:17:19.400 have a full
00:17:19.920 background check.
00:17:21.280 They phone your
00:17:22.180 spouse.
00:17:23.280 They'll phone
00:17:23.880 your exes.
00:17:25.420 You have to
00:17:26.140 yeah, like for
00:17:27.560 real.
00:17:28.240 This is just
00:17:29.040 for like
00:17:29.760 unrestricted.
00:17:31.600 So long
00:17:32.020 guns, like
00:17:32.460 owning a
00:17:32.860 regular shotgun.
00:17:34.220 You have to
00:17:34.680 go in for a
00:17:35.400 special course.
00:17:36.620 Mine was being
00:17:37.420 taught by a
00:17:38.540 former military
00:17:39.180 and RCMP
00:17:39.820 dude, super
00:17:40.460 nice student in
00:17:41.380 Nova Scotia.
00:17:42.580 You have to be
00:17:43.680 really good at
00:17:44.420 it.
00:17:44.940 There's no
00:17:45.440 participation
00:17:46.160 ribbons in
00:17:46.960 this.
00:17:47.540 You have to
00:17:47.960 pass that thing
00:17:48.600 with flying
00:17:49.020 colors.
00:17:49.920 There's rules
00:17:50.500 about where you
00:17:51.060 have to store
00:17:51.620 your ammo.
00:17:52.520 There's rules
00:17:53.000 about how you
00:17:53.540 have to store
00:17:54.000 your firearm.
00:17:54.780 Like you can't
00:17:55.600 just throw it in
00:17:56.120 your truck.
00:17:56.740 Like there are
00:17:57.680 so many rules
00:17:58.840 around these
00:17:59.560 things.
00:17:59.960 And you go to
00:18:00.560 jail if you
00:18:01.740 get it wrong.
00:18:02.880 Yes.
00:18:04.420 It's one of
00:18:05.060 those things
00:18:05.440 where you don't
00:18:05.900 just get a
00:18:06.300 ticket.
00:18:06.640 You're going
00:18:07.020 to prison.
00:18:08.160 Right.
00:18:08.380 So people are
00:18:09.180 very careful
00:18:10.040 with this stuff.
00:18:11.180 And if you
00:18:11.520 want to get
00:18:11.860 into handguns,
00:18:12.680 which you can't
00:18:13.220 now, things are
00:18:13.940 such a mess right
00:18:14.740 now between this
00:18:15.440 government and
00:18:16.120 firearms owners,
00:18:17.340 you have to be
00:18:18.320 able to allow
00:18:18.900 law enforcement to
00:18:19.860 enter your
00:18:20.240 home.
00:18:21.060 Like at any
00:18:21.600 time, if you're
00:18:22.700 a handgun
00:18:23.040 owner.
00:18:23.740 Like these are
00:18:24.540 serious things.
00:18:26.080 And to have
00:18:26.520 this minister just
00:18:27.460 not knowing the
00:18:29.240 foggiest thing
00:18:30.020 about it is
00:18:31.080 disappointing.
00:18:32.000 And it isn't
00:18:32.440 just, I must
00:18:33.140 say, it's not
00:18:34.620 just the individual
00:18:35.900 firearms owners.
00:18:36.840 That's bad
00:18:37.280 enough.
00:18:37.900 And how much
00:18:38.700 they're going to
00:18:39.220 spend on this
00:18:39.780 thing.
00:18:40.060 Again, without
00:18:41.080 making people
00:18:42.160 safer, according
00:18:43.720 to the police,
00:18:44.840 the police say
00:18:45.760 that we shouldn't
00:18:46.660 be spending money
00:18:47.340 on this because
00:18:47.880 it won't
00:18:48.180 help.
00:18:49.140 It's also the
00:18:50.160 businesses.
00:18:51.720 Yes, they have
00:18:52.500 stranded assets.
00:18:53.980 This is it.
00:18:54.960 This is it.
00:18:55.480 I'll never forget,
00:18:56.400 I was speaking to
00:18:57.220 a lady right in
00:18:58.280 the, you know,
00:18:58.980 teeth of the
00:18:59.440 lockdown.
00:18:59.880 I was up in
00:19:00.460 Prince George and
00:19:01.680 she was running
00:19:02.320 this amazing
00:19:03.180 business.
00:19:04.300 This, this mom,
00:19:05.280 mama, I think she
00:19:06.140 had five or six
00:19:06.840 kids.
00:19:07.200 She was amazing.
00:19:08.460 And they, they
00:19:09.740 had to, they
00:19:10.280 had to close.
00:19:11.000 They had to close
00:19:11.880 because she had so
00:19:13.000 many stranded
00:19:13.800 assets that were
00:19:15.100 locked up that she
00:19:16.380 could not move.
00:19:17.500 She could not
00:19:18.340 sell.
00:19:19.100 She, they still
00:19:20.060 didn't know what
00:19:20.580 they were doing
00:19:21.100 even with the
00:19:21.680 so-called buyback,
00:19:22.660 meaning she couldn't
00:19:23.380 even get compensation
00:19:24.260 at the time, even
00:19:25.440 if she had wanted
00:19:26.220 to with the
00:19:26.860 government.
00:19:27.320 It just strangled
00:19:29.000 her business.
00:19:30.480 I have no idea
00:19:30.980 what she's doing
00:19:31.440 now, but she was,
00:19:32.900 she was doing so
00:19:33.660 well.
00:19:34.080 It was a community
00:19:34.780 hub.
00:19:35.320 They were doing
00:19:35.720 lessons with
00:19:36.380 people like,
00:19:37.000 and so it
00:19:38.340 isn't just the
00:19:38.940 individual firearms
00:19:39.780 owners, it's
00:19:40.620 businesses, small
00:19:41.800 locally owned
00:19:42.480 businesses that
00:19:43.480 have been there
00:19:43.940 in cases for
00:19:44.620 decades that have
00:19:46.040 been wrecked by
00:19:46.540 this and it's
00:19:47.260 not right.
00:19:48.940 Well, and then
00:19:49.260 there's Canadian
00:19:49.800 firearms manufacturers
00:19:51.020 who made, uh,
00:19:53.740 small runs of
00:19:55.560 an AR-15 and
00:19:58.240 that was all that
00:19:59.000 they manufactured.
00:20:00.240 Uh, the government
00:20:01.100 just put them out
00:20:01.700 of business with
00:20:02.500 the stroke of a
00:20:03.080 pen.
00:20:03.720 Um, and, um,
00:20:06.140 and think
00:20:06.920 about it and
00:20:08.080 the minister
00:20:08.700 responsible for
00:20:10.600 putting you out
00:20:11.340 of business, the
00:20:13.120 minister responsible
00:20:14.200 for gun laws has
00:20:15.680 no idea what the
00:20:16.660 gun laws are, but
00:20:18.320 he knows for sure
00:20:19.840 that you're just
00:20:20.480 not following them.
00:20:22.080 Which is, again,
00:20:23.480 for folks who are
00:20:24.460 listening who have
00:20:25.220 friends and family
00:20:26.220 who aren't in, like,
00:20:27.180 the gun world, um,
00:20:28.420 imagine that this
00:20:29.300 was your truck
00:20:30.000 instead.
00:20:30.680 Right.
00:20:31.400 Imagine that it was
00:20:32.320 your chainsaw, a
00:20:33.440 tool that you rely
00:20:34.500 upon, um, imagine
00:20:36.320 that it was that
00:20:36.980 instead.
00:20:37.340 Or if you're really,
00:20:38.580 if you're a sports
00:20:39.200 shooter, imagine all
00:20:41.100 of a sudden the
00:20:42.420 government coming
00:20:43.040 forward and saying,
00:20:43.860 okay, we're literally
00:20:44.760 confiscating your
00:20:45.780 snowmobile, your
00:20:46.620 skis, your poles,
00:20:47.700 you're not allowed to
00:20:48.340 have these anymore.
00:20:49.540 Right.
00:20:49.980 And I'm just doing
00:20:50.460 that as a thought
00:20:51.000 process because this
00:20:51.960 is a private property
00:20:52.880 issue as well.
00:20:54.180 Exactly.
00:20:54.580 Like, when do you
00:20:55.340 give the state the
00:20:56.180 right to seize
00:20:56.960 property from law
00:20:58.300 abiding peaceful
00:20:59.140 people?
00:21:00.300 Do you really want
00:21:01.160 to go down that
00:21:01.700 route?
00:21:02.420 And again, this is
00:21:03.660 going to cost a ton
00:21:04.420 of money and it is
00:21:05.580 the police forces,
00:21:07.400 the frontline guys
00:21:08.500 who are saying this
00:21:10.060 is not where the
00:21:10.640 problem is.
00:21:11.400 The problem is, is
00:21:12.480 with illegal handguns
00:21:13.440 coming across the
00:21:14.120 border and they say
00:21:15.680 the fact that they
00:21:16.460 can't keep bad guys
00:21:17.520 in jail, no matter
00:21:18.800 how many times they
00:21:19.700 catch them.
00:21:20.840 Yes.
00:21:21.560 Yeah.
00:21:21.960 Because from what I
00:21:23.040 can see on the news,
00:21:24.300 they're actually kind
00:21:25.400 of good at catching
00:21:25.980 them.
00:21:26.780 They keep getting
00:21:27.880 back out of jail.
00:21:28.840 This is it.
00:21:30.500 And then committing
00:21:31.780 crimes while they
00:21:33.400 are on bail.
00:21:34.500 Yes.
00:21:35.160 Over and over and
00:21:36.080 over again.
00:21:36.680 And we're not
00:21:37.220 talking about new
00:21:37.820 laws.
00:21:38.220 We have enough
00:21:38.740 laws on the
00:21:39.200 books.
00:21:39.640 Right.
00:21:40.080 All the police are
00:21:40.960 saying is how
00:21:41.660 about we enforce
00:21:42.820 the ones that are
00:21:43.680 already here and
00:21:45.800 start backing off on
00:21:47.180 some of these folks.
00:21:48.060 And again, here in
00:21:48.640 Alberta, Premier
00:21:50.060 Daniel Smith has
00:21:50.940 instructed, saying
00:21:52.620 we don't want to be
00:21:53.620 spending precious
00:21:54.520 taxpayer dollars
00:21:55.420 provincially for
00:21:56.780 police to go door
00:21:57.840 to door, ranch
00:21:58.660 to ranch, saying
00:21:59.460 hi, I'm here to
00:22:00.280 seize your
00:22:00.600 property.
00:22:01.180 Like, and I
00:22:01.820 don't know any
00:22:02.460 frontline police
00:22:03.260 officer that is
00:22:04.340 keen to be doing
00:22:04.940 that.
00:22:05.540 Like, this is just
00:22:06.720 it should be a
00:22:07.460 non-issue, but
00:22:08.500 unfortunately it
00:22:09.380 looks like they're
00:22:09.820 going to be trying
00:22:10.320 to plow ahead with
00:22:11.040 this.
00:22:11.320 But good on
00:22:11.740 Andrew Lawton for
00:22:12.420 exposing that.
00:22:13.160 Yeah.
00:22:13.640 Yeah.
00:22:14.080 Andrew Lawton is
00:22:15.060 going to continue
00:22:15.760 to make some of
00:22:16.520 these liberals look
00:22:17.260 like absolute
00:22:17.860 idiots.
00:22:18.240 And I'm just, I'm
00:22:19.260 here for it.
00:22:21.140 Now, moving ahead,
00:22:23.560 the Provincial
00:22:25.800 Finance Minister's
00:22:27.220 report cards are
00:22:28.940 out.
00:22:29.920 Alberta did okay-ish,
00:22:31.700 not excellent, but
00:22:32.640 okay-ish, passing
00:22:34.140 grade.
00:22:35.540 Yeah.
00:22:36.360 So, our Finance
00:22:37.740 Minister here is
00:22:38.540 Nate Horner, and he
00:22:40.020 got a B, which, I
00:22:41.520 mean, we're kind of
00:22:42.880 tough here at the
00:22:43.980 CTF, the Taxpayers
00:22:45.400 Federation.
00:22:46.340 We want you to
00:22:46.880 balance the budget, we
00:22:47.720 want you to pay down
00:22:48.320 the debt, we want
00:22:49.040 lower taxes, we want
00:22:50.020 smaller government, all
00:22:50.960 of that.
00:22:51.280 And, yeah, he came
00:22:52.480 in second.
00:22:53.500 So, he got a B, in
00:22:54.900 Saskatchewan, the
00:22:55.700 Finance Minister there
00:22:56.620 got a B plus.
00:22:58.120 And that's because
00:22:59.180 technically, as of
00:23:00.780 right now, on June,
00:23:03.040 you know, 10th or
00:23:04.000 whatever it is, their
00:23:05.400 budget is balanced, and
00:23:07.500 the reason why I'm
00:23:08.100 putting a little
00:23:08.680 asterisk on that is
00:23:09.660 because apparently
00:23:10.880 they were being very
00:23:12.880 hopeful in their
00:23:13.760 estimations coming up
00:23:15.000 to their next
00:23:15.560 quarterly update, and
00:23:16.920 maybe a little bit
00:23:17.600 too hopeful with how
00:23:18.600 much resource revenue
00:23:19.500 they were going to
00:23:19.940 be getting, but we'll
00:23:20.680 see.
00:23:21.280 So, as of right
00:23:22.480 now, here in
00:23:23.260 Alberta, we started
00:23:25.200 off the year paying
00:23:26.140 down some debt, but
00:23:27.600 now we're going to
00:23:28.360 reverse that and
00:23:29.480 start adding more to
00:23:30.760 the debt.
00:23:31.700 So, our budget is not
00:23:32.880 balanced in Alberta.
00:23:34.280 It pains me to say
00:23:35.620 that, and we are
00:23:37.080 going to be borrowing
00:23:37.920 more than 5 billion
00:23:39.460 extra dollars, heaping
00:23:41.680 more money onto that
00:23:43.340 debt.
00:23:44.340 Yeah.
00:23:44.520 And the reason why
00:23:45.300 that's a problem, of
00:23:46.140 course, is because we're
00:23:47.380 charged interest on that
00:23:49.020 debt.
00:23:49.300 It's the same as if you
00:23:51.100 had a line of credit or
00:23:52.320 a credit card as an
00:23:53.260 individual.
00:23:54.160 The government is in the
00:23:55.380 same boat.
00:23:56.540 And so, we are blowing
00:23:57.640 close to 3 billion
00:24:00.020 dollars every year just on
00:24:02.800 debt interest payments.
00:24:04.160 I did the math.
00:24:04.920 I think it works out.
00:24:06.180 What's that?
00:24:07.020 Three hospitals worth.
00:24:08.360 Three hospitals.
00:24:08.980 I think it's like 8
00:24:10.880 million dollars a day.
00:24:13.900 Isn't that awful?
00:24:15.260 I know.
00:24:15.840 Like, it's bad, bad.
00:24:17.620 And so, this is where
00:24:18.240 we're like, okay, this is
00:24:19.380 how I put it out.
00:24:20.260 And this is coming out in
00:24:21.280 the, hopefully, the
00:24:22.600 Calgary sound in the next
00:24:23.480 few days.
00:24:25.020 I'll give it to you this
00:24:25.780 way.
00:24:27.300 Premier Daniel Smith is
00:24:28.380 doing an amazing job
00:24:30.000 fighting the powers that
00:24:32.080 be in Ottawa and trying to
00:24:35.100 stay ahead of whatever
00:24:36.700 circus is happening in
00:24:38.800 D.C.
00:24:39.520 Right.
00:24:39.800 I don't even know
00:24:40.440 anymore.
00:24:41.080 I'm just innocent
00:24:43.280 bystander.
00:24:44.920 That's on fire.
00:24:46.540 I'm just going to stay
00:24:48.000 over here now.
00:24:49.080 So, Smith is doing a
00:24:50.220 great job trying to
00:24:52.000 tackle both of those
00:24:52.920 things, trying to
00:24:53.620 wrestle both those
00:24:54.360 steers.
00:24:55.580 However, here in
00:24:57.480 Alberta, we have to be
00:24:59.260 Fortress Alberta.
00:25:00.460 Right.
00:25:00.900 At home.
00:25:01.840 So, imagine, you
00:25:03.360 know, I liken her in the
00:25:04.640 article to Sarah Connor,
00:25:06.080 who is like one of
00:25:06.680 my favorite, you
00:25:07.840 know, movie
00:25:08.260 characters of all
00:25:08.860 time.
00:25:09.960 Imagine if in T2, she
00:25:12.560 hadn't had all that
00:25:13.760 ammo stored.
00:25:15.020 Right.
00:25:15.520 Imagine if she didn't
00:25:16.440 have the gas masks
00:25:17.420 ready.
00:25:17.800 Imagine if she wasn't
00:25:18.800 ready.
00:25:19.820 So, she's tough, she's
00:25:21.440 courageous, all of
00:25:22.360 those great things.
00:25:23.240 She's a fighter, but
00:25:24.480 she hadn't done the
00:25:25.600 planning and made sure
00:25:27.320 that her team was
00:25:28.340 strong.
00:25:29.160 That's what we have to
00:25:30.200 have here in Alberta.
00:25:31.800 Because if Alberta is
00:25:32.980 not balancing its
00:25:33.720 budget, if Alberta is
00:25:34.720 not paying down the
00:25:35.460 debt, if Alberta is
00:25:36.380 making sure that our
00:25:37.140 fiscal, isn't making
00:25:37.940 sure our fiscal house is
00:25:38.740 in order, what the
00:25:39.880 other province is going
00:25:40.820 to do.
00:25:41.500 Where are people going
00:25:42.360 to come to, right, for
00:25:44.300 that kind of fiscal
00:25:45.200 stability?
00:25:46.380 And from fiscal
00:25:47.400 stability, I will add,
00:25:49.320 comes things like more
00:25:50.320 freedom because you have
00:25:51.900 smaller government, which
00:25:54.080 is what we need is
00:25:54.960 smaller government.
00:25:56.740 And so that is why we
00:25:57.600 are urging through this
00:25:59.020 report card system of,
00:26:00.220 yeah, you're doing a
00:26:00.780 very good job in the
00:26:01.660 sense that you did a big
00:26:02.560 income tax cut that was
00:26:04.060 outstanding.
00:26:05.320 Super happy with that.
00:26:07.080 And taxpayer protection,
00:26:08.660 again, good job.
00:26:10.600 But our spending increased
00:26:12.460 year over year by more
00:26:14.380 than 8%.
00:26:15.600 Sheila, that was second
00:26:18.120 only to Prince Edward
00:26:19.380 Island.
00:26:21.120 Yuck.
00:26:22.080 Yeah.
00:26:22.620 Like, yeah, I'm
00:26:23.740 cringing.
00:26:24.340 Like, I don't want to hear
00:26:25.460 that.
00:26:25.800 And yes, I know it's
00:26:27.260 technically within the
00:26:28.220 rules because they have a
00:26:29.660 rule of inflation plus
00:26:30.760 population, but it was
00:26:32.380 within, like, 0.01%
00:26:34.900 here, girl.
00:26:35.600 Yeah.
00:26:36.040 Like, not good enough.
00:26:37.480 And so this is where we're
00:26:38.480 encouraging them, you got
00:26:40.160 a B, but we want you to
00:26:42.040 pull your socks up and get
00:26:43.240 an A.
00:26:43.880 So that's where we're at
00:26:44.720 right now in Alberta.
00:26:45.860 Yeah, right.
00:26:46.420 We need to be conservative
00:26:47.440 in our spending.
00:26:48.780 Yes.
00:26:49.300 That's a nice way of
00:26:50.180 putting it.
00:26:51.120 Right?
00:26:53.760 Speaking of not being
00:26:54.880 conservative in their
00:26:55.980 spending, CBC, which
00:26:58.400 claims to be stricken
00:27:00.660 with poverty, but
00:27:02.960 receives about a
00:27:04.460 billion and a half
00:27:05.820 dollars in subsidy
00:27:07.140 per year, plus, you
00:27:09.140 know, those government
00:27:09.760 contracts for all the
00:27:10.720 government of Canada
00:27:11.740 advertising, plus they
00:27:13.740 rake in private sector
00:27:15.340 advertising.
00:27:17.080 Their new CEO, who is
00:27:20.040 replacing the outgoing
00:27:21.220 personal muse of mine,
00:27:23.640 Catherine Tate, their
00:27:27.220 new boss, same as the
00:27:30.400 old boss, sounds like.
00:27:31.580 Yes, exactly.
00:27:33.480 And so I like doing a
00:27:36.240 little bit of guerrilla
00:27:36.940 training for, like,
00:27:38.200 independent journalists
00:27:39.060 who watch the show.
00:27:41.440 So a good way to go
00:27:43.020 figure out how much
00:27:44.800 these people are being
00:27:45.720 paid is to look up
00:27:47.380 something called orders
00:27:48.360 and counsel.
00:27:49.860 Okay?
00:27:50.480 It's a government
00:27:51.220 website.
00:27:51.960 It's basically where they
00:27:52.940 announce, you know,
00:27:54.020 appointments.
00:27:54.460 And in this case, it
00:27:56.780 was announced that the
00:27:57.760 replacement for
00:27:58.640 Catherine Tate is going
00:28:00.660 to be at the same
00:28:02.120 level, same CEO level
00:28:05.920 as Tate.
00:28:07.240 The reason why that
00:28:08.540 matters is because the
00:28:09.780 way the federal
00:28:10.340 government does their
00:28:11.800 pay is they have a
00:28:13.360 grid system.
00:28:14.480 Right.
00:28:14.600 Okay?
00:28:15.120 And so what you do is
00:28:16.780 you look up, look up
00:28:18.620 CEO Crown Corporation
00:28:20.540 Canada grid, and it'll
00:28:23.400 show you, so the new
00:28:25.500 boss is CEO level seven.
00:28:28.260 That's the same that
00:28:29.580 Catherine Tate was.
00:28:30.960 All that is to say, the
00:28:32.900 new boss is also getting
00:28:34.680 paid about half a million
00:28:36.680 dollars.
00:28:38.140 Jeez.
00:28:38.480 Like, it's disgusting.
00:28:40.260 It is more than the
00:28:41.380 prime minister, regardless
00:28:42.300 of how you feel about the
00:28:43.300 person, more than
00:28:44.520 cabinet ministers.
00:28:45.920 I think it's closing in
00:28:47.500 on the U.S.
00:28:48.440 president's salary.
00:28:49.860 Like, of the entire
00:28:51.140 country?
00:28:52.260 Yeah.
00:28:52.660 One little bureaucrat
00:28:53.800 who's the head of our
00:28:54.860 state broadcaster is
00:28:56.400 getting paid around
00:28:57.920 $500,000 a year.
00:29:01.200 Plus perks, for sure.
00:29:02.960 So this is where it gets
00:29:04.220 frustrating, because we
00:29:06.140 had all of these folks
00:29:07.800 saying, you know what,
00:29:08.960 that's too much money.
00:29:10.580 We want to see CBC, you
00:29:12.280 know, read the room,
00:29:14.000 realize that 50% of
00:29:15.580 Canadians are fighting to
00:29:16.620 afford basics right now.
00:29:18.000 They're tapped out.
00:29:18.800 They're taxed out.
00:29:19.780 This is too large.
00:29:20.940 Too large.
00:29:22.140 Right?
00:29:22.740 Trim it back.
00:29:23.260 Yeah.
00:29:23.800 And they didn't.
00:29:24.640 They hired her at exactly
00:29:25.760 the same level.
00:29:27.080 Well, and regardless of
00:29:29.160 what you...
00:29:29.660 Okay, look.
00:29:31.160 I think it's clear.
00:29:32.820 I think the CBC should
00:29:34.420 sink or swim on its own.
00:29:35.620 I believe that that is
00:29:36.540 your position, too.
00:29:37.480 I see it behind you
00:29:38.420 there.
00:29:40.420 But let's even take my
00:29:42.680 political leanings out of
00:29:44.460 the mix for a second.
00:29:47.080 This is the CEO of a
00:29:50.540 failing company by every
00:29:53.080 single metric.
00:29:54.580 It's a TV station nobody
00:29:56.440 watches.
00:29:57.660 Yes.
00:29:57.980 Quite literally.
00:29:58.880 They are a statistical
00:29:59.820 rounding error of Canadian
00:30:01.360 grandparents who don't
00:30:02.480 know how to use their
00:30:03.160 remote control.
00:30:04.120 They're watching the six
00:30:05.800 o'clock news at this
00:30:06.780 point, if indeed your
00:30:08.160 region even has a six
00:30:09.980 o'clock news broadcast
00:30:10.880 anymore, because they
00:30:11.820 basically all but
00:30:12.860 eliminated those.
00:30:13.740 Their flagship show is
00:30:16.300 Unwatchable, Bias, and
00:30:17.920 Unwatched.
00:30:20.500 They just don't provide
00:30:24.300 the service to Canadians
00:30:26.440 that they are supposed to
00:30:28.140 provide and that Canadians
00:30:29.840 want.
00:30:30.200 This is a failing company.
00:30:32.220 Should a failing company's
00:30:34.400 CEO be making this money?
00:30:36.180 Particularly if the
00:30:38.000 shareholders, us, don't
00:30:40.380 like it.
00:30:41.520 No.
00:30:41.880 Great point.
00:30:42.460 I'm pulling up my phone
00:30:44.380 right now just to give you
00:30:46.480 the exact latest one on
00:30:48.220 how much, how many people
00:30:49.600 are actually watching it
00:30:50.600 here.
00:30:51.320 All right.
00:30:51.840 So in their latest
00:30:53.080 quarterly report from the
00:30:54.700 CBC itself, okay, their
00:30:57.020 latest quarterly report,
00:30:58.560 they have an audience share
00:31:00.240 of 1.8%.
00:31:02.940 What that means is, of Canadians who
00:31:07.140 were available to be watching TV at
00:31:09.360 that time, 98% of Canadians were
00:31:13.240 choosing to watch something else.
00:31:16.100 Yeah.
00:31:16.220 And again, this is CBC News World
00:31:18.300 primetime.
00:31:18.980 They're in every house in the country
00:31:21.280 too, by the way.
00:31:22.160 Like this is, you don't have a choice.
00:31:24.000 This is shoved onto your TV, whether you
00:31:26.660 want it or not.
00:31:27.720 They are mandatory carriage, whether
00:31:29.540 you're just got antennas or cable or
00:31:32.400 satellite.
00:31:33.060 This is in every home in the country and
00:31:36.100 very few networks can say that.
00:31:38.740 Yeah.
00:31:39.260 They're mandated, so to speak.
00:31:41.200 Yeah.
00:31:41.520 Yeah.
00:31:41.720 The CBC is mandated and still nobody
00:31:44.520 is watching them or close to nobody.
00:31:46.620 And again, I will point out, so the
00:31:48.400 new CEO of the CBC is Marie-Philippe
00:31:51.600 Bouchard.
00:31:52.540 She started her new role right at the
00:31:54.580 change of the new year after Tate left
00:31:56.540 off and her pay, the official pay
00:31:59.460 salary for this scale is between
00:32:01.580 $478,300 and $562,700.
00:32:07.920 Now, technically also entitled to a
00:32:11.840 bonus of up to 28% of that.
00:32:15.440 Oh my goodness.
00:32:16.480 Which is amazing.
00:32:17.920 I think it's over, I think that alone
00:32:19.440 is over $150,000.
00:32:21.360 Now, this is the, laugh or cry, it's
00:32:24.200 kind of the funny part.
00:32:25.600 The CBC said, oh, we hear you.
00:32:27.900 We're listening.
00:32:28.840 We're getting rid of bonuses.
00:32:31.040 Yeah, but they're just going to jack up
00:32:32.620 the salaries.
00:32:33.440 Exactly.
00:32:34.420 Right.
00:32:35.560 Again, this.
00:32:36.500 At least it's truth in advertising
00:32:39.040 because before they were calling them
00:32:40.660 performance bonuses and everyone was
00:32:42.780 like, including me, but you're not
00:32:44.980 performing.
00:32:45.800 So they're like, okay, we'll just call
00:32:47.140 it a salary.
00:32:48.300 Exactly.
00:32:48.900 And they're just going to go back to
00:32:49.840 salary.
00:32:50.400 And again, this, sorry to be like
00:32:52.160 Debbie Downer here, but this is on
00:32:54.520 top of the fact that Prime Minister
00:32:56.460 Mark Carney, okay, is going to give
00:32:59.020 them even more money.
00:33:01.140 I can't get over, as a journalist my
00:33:03.520 entire life, I can't get over the,
00:33:06.080 the scene during the election.
00:33:08.860 Yeah.
00:33:09.200 So like, just picture it here, folks.
00:33:12.320 Candidate A, the red team candidate
00:33:14.400 and candidate B, the blue team
00:33:16.360 candidate.
00:33:17.520 Candidate A says, hey, CBC, I'm going
00:33:21.660 to give you more money.
00:33:23.620 Here you go.
00:33:24.900 And then the CBC goes and covers this
00:33:27.500 as news.
00:33:28.680 Yeah.
00:33:28.840 I saw it at the debate first.
00:33:30.100 Like, this, this, this conflict of
00:33:34.500 interest is so big, it is casting a
00:33:37.300 shadow on Godzilla.
00:33:38.720 Right.
00:33:39.520 Like, everybody can see this thing.
00:33:41.540 Yes.
00:33:41.980 And like, candidate B, the blue guy
00:33:44.640 says, I'm going to cut your funding.
00:33:46.920 Right.
00:33:47.820 How is that?
00:33:49.480 This is it.
00:33:50.300 How is that reporter supposed to call
00:33:52.800 that straight?
00:33:53.760 You can't.
00:33:54.800 It is an inherent conflict of interest,
00:33:56.540 which is an illustration as to why
00:33:58.760 journalists should not be paid by the
00:34:01.180 government.
00:34:02.020 Right.
00:34:02.960 Again, so just an update for folks on the
00:34:05.060 CBC.
00:34:05.680 A, they're going to be getting more money.
00:34:07.300 B, the new CEO, same as the old CEO.
00:34:10.040 And C, they're getting rid of bonuses,
00:34:12.380 but they're just going to increase their
00:34:13.960 pay.
00:34:14.660 Yes, we're going to find out by how much.
00:34:17.040 Oh, good gracious.
00:34:18.420 Now, last thing, you know, last thing I
00:34:20.960 just want to touch on, um, as we're
00:34:22.540 recording this Tuesday morning, this news
00:34:24.440 just broke.
00:34:25.680 Um, and it's funny because I read the
00:34:28.200 same report as the rest of the
00:34:29.700 journalists, but I'm the only one who
00:34:31.100 found this one thing and I'm sure they
00:34:33.320 saw it.
00:34:33.860 They just didn't want to report it.
00:34:35.600 GC Strategies, the company behind the
00:34:37.900 flawed Arrive Can app that sent 10,000
00:34:40.700 people into quarantine erroneously, um,
00:34:44.460 which is a $60 million contract to create
00:34:48.660 an app that was recreated over a weekend
00:34:50.900 by a bunch of just nerds, benevolent nerds,
00:34:55.440 not the sinister kind, tech bro kids, uh, for
00:34:59.060 about $50,000.
00:35:01.580 Um, the auditor general report is out on
00:35:05.400 this today and I'm asking you about this
00:35:07.000 or just, we're going to talk about it
00:35:08.420 real quick, uh, because well, you're the
00:35:11.280 CTF. So $93 million in no bid contracts, uh,
00:35:16.760 between 2015 and 2024 GC Strategies, a two
00:35:20.340 man company run by Christian Firth and
00:35:22.700 Darren Anthony secured 106 federal
00:35:24.860 contracts across 31 departments. Total
00:35:27.560 value 93 million. Most were awarded
00:35:30.460 without competition. So sole source
00:35:33.080 contracts and GC Strategies. They don't
00:35:35.600 build tech. They're basically a pass
00:35:38.120 through. They outsource the work, mark
00:35:40.780 up the invoices, and then they send the
00:35:42.880 bill to the taxpayer. Uh, the auditor
00:35:45.520 general's findings were 82% of the sole
00:35:48.620 source contracts had no price validation. So
00:35:50.940 they didn't know if they were within the
00:35:53.240 realm of what the market could bear. 21%
00:35:56.760 lacked proof of required security
00:35:59.820 clearances. 87 of these contracts were
00:36:03.160 split into small amounts to avoid
00:36:06.160 oversight rules so that to make sure that
00:36:08.000 they didn't have to go to, um, mandatory
00:36:10.620 tender. Um, and then, uh, department, it
00:36:16.300 wasn't just the CBSA. So the CBSA was into
00:36:19.300 these guys for 59 or 49 million treasury
00:36:22.420 board, 10 million innovation, innovation
00:36:24.440 Canada, 10 million national defense. And
00:36:27.060 remember, I just said that they didn't
00:36:28.380 have the proper security clearances, almost
00:36:30.940 4 million. And here's the one that I
00:36:33.240 thought was kind of, uh, interesting. It's
00:36:35.800 not the biggest, but CBC was into these
00:36:39.560 guys for $12,000. Now, never once in years
00:36:43.900 now of reporting on the Arrive Can GC's
00:36:47.340 strategies scandal, did CBC ever divulge
00:36:52.080 that they had a contract with these guys? Not
00:36:55.440 even once. I've never heard them declare
00:36:57.940 that, no. No, and nobody else declared it
00:37:00.300 either. So all the journalists in the
00:37:01.780 mainstream media who were funded by the
00:37:03.300 government had the same report that I had
00:37:05.320 today. And they just sort of skimmed over
00:37:08.000 CBC being into this up to their elbows.
00:37:10.860 Holy smokes. And again, I started off our
00:37:14.340 conversation talking about history rhyming.
00:37:16.860 This is what the Accountability Act was
00:37:18.960 supposed to be for. Right. So for, you
00:37:22.000 know, younger people, there was a huge
00:37:23.840 thing that, you know, eventually did bring
00:37:25.500 down the Kretchen-Martin government. Yep. And
00:37:27.740 that was called, um, ad scam, right? Or the
00:37:30.540 sponsorship scandal. Yeah. Um, long story
00:37:33.460 short, uh, it was in the wake of the near
00:37:36.020 miss referendum where Quebec wanted to get
00:37:38.020 out of here. And then basically the federal
00:37:40.000 government backed up the dump truck full of
00:37:41.740 money and said, we're going to give you tons
00:37:44.100 and tons of taxpayers dollars. The problem is
00:37:46.860 in areas around Quebec, they weren't
00:37:49.280 accountable for it. Meaning there weren't
00:37:51.560 receipts, there weren't paper trails. Auditor
00:37:54.020 general looked at this over and over again and
00:37:56.200 said, whoa, like this is not okay. Which then
00:37:59.660 prompted new prime minister, Stephen Harper
00:38:02.340 to pass the Accountability Act. So that
00:38:05.640 included things like what you just mentioned
00:38:07.860 there, limits on how much you can sole source
00:38:11.760 before putting it out to tender. But if it
00:38:14.880 now is shown that they're purposefully breaking
00:38:17.440 it down into small increments to avoid, like
00:38:19.400 this is not okay. This is absolutely not okay.
00:38:23.040 It doesn't matter what, you know, brand of
00:38:26.060 government is in there. No, this is what
00:38:27.740 accountability is for because all of this is
00:38:30.280 your money. You guys, all of this is taxpayers
00:38:32.940 money. Like picture the people who are
00:38:35.560 struggling in your neighborhood or when you're
00:38:37.500 watching them at the grocery store, put stuff
00:38:39.240 back. Like, I'm sorry, this makes me really
00:38:42.140 mad because this, the auditor general found
00:38:47.920 that there was no e-procurement system. There
00:38:51.720 were no fraud risk tools used and no
00:38:54.980 enforcement of the existing rules. So this
00:38:57.280 isn't even about adding extra rules, which
00:39:00.140 normally I'm against, but I feel like we
00:39:01.760 probably should here because it protects the
00:39:04.380 taxpayer. But even the ones that are on the
00:39:06.220 books, nobody was following.
00:39:08.360 This is it. Gets back to what we were saying
00:39:10.200 about the police saying, just keep the bad
00:39:11.900 guys in jail. We don't need, probably don't
00:39:13.860 need new laws. We just need the laws that are
00:39:16.400 currently there to be followed. And again, this
00:39:19.420 is, this gets back to government being in for
00:39:22.840 a while and then getting this sense of
00:39:25.200 entitlement and this Teflon sort of coating
00:39:28.120 that Trudeau had on him. Yep. My one little
00:39:31.500 glimmer of hope here, because a colleague of
00:39:35.420 mine just said something, not a colleague, but
00:39:37.220 a, like a caller called the office. How did he
00:39:40.420 put it? I'm not optimistic, but I'm trying to
00:39:43.060 be hopeful. Right. Which was a nice way of
00:39:45.620 putting it. Yeah. I don't want to be a doomer, but
00:39:47.800 this isn't good. Yeah. It's not good. Um, and so
00:39:51.620 my little bit of hope to offer people here is
00:39:55.060 that I do, I think that Trudeau as a personality
00:40:01.600 prime minister was a phenomenon. And I don't
00:40:06.400 mean that in either a positive nor a negative
00:40:09.080 light. Right. I mean, as an individual, he was
00:40:13.380 exceptional because of who he was. Right. He
00:40:16.080 was kind of a celebrity. He was a famous name.
00:40:19.680 Um, people thought he was, you know, the, the
00:40:21.720 media kind of treated him like the cool kid in
00:40:23.700 class. So he was not your garden variety
00:40:27.140 politician. Right. I'll put it that way. Similar
00:40:29.640 in a sense that, you know, um, U S president
00:40:32.080 Donald Trump is a specific type of person, right?
00:40:36.180 Yeah. He's not coming up through the
00:40:37.480 bureaucratic ranks. My hope here in saying all
00:40:40.680 this is stuff didn't stick to Trudeau. He was
00:40:44.280 Teflon. He could say the most outrageously
00:40:46.340 stupid things. Like you should prioritize paying
00:40:49.220 your carbon tax, my carbon tax over feeding
00:40:51.420 your kids and pay rent and people shrug their
00:40:54.740 shoulders. Like, you know, they keep like flick his
00:40:57.020 hair and show his sock and everyone would be
00:40:58.740 like, Ooh, swoon. I know it was like, am I on
00:41:02.480 crazy pills here? I know. Like it was crazy. And
00:41:05.620 so I think that chapter is over. I hope I'm not
00:41:11.860 expecting Dr. Mark Carney flashing his socks at
00:41:16.360 people. I'm hoping that there is that, that getting
00:41:20.940 back to what we were saying, that calculator
00:41:23.220 abacus, you know, minding the beans and counting
00:41:26.120 them mentality in there that is like, Nope, you're
00:41:29.560 going to wear a suit to work and you're going to
00:41:31.620 show up on time. And I hope that this means it's a
00:41:35.280 change within this own government of
00:41:37.600 accountability. And we need to get back to, you
00:41:40.060 know, where you got to show your receipts.
00:41:42.660 Yeah. Mark Carney has the charisma of one of those
00:41:45.840 vacuum cleaner robots.
00:41:50.080 Don't take this away from me, Sheila. I'm still
00:41:52.340 clinging to hope that he's efficient. Really? And
00:41:56.280 like, let's get, let's come back to there. I want
00:41:58.500 me, what is it? Make politicians boring again.
00:42:00.680 Yes. Boring and accountable. Take me back to
00:42:04.340 Stephen Harper. Boring and accountable. Yeah. My
00:42:07.880 problem with Mark Carney is the last time he had an
00:42:10.680 expense account at the Bank of England, he blew right
00:42:14.760 through it. And then he and his wife complained that it
00:42:16.940 wasn't large enough for them. So I'm already filled with
00:42:19.940 dread and trepidation. On that dark note, Chris, how do
00:42:24.220 people get involved with the Canadian Taxpayers
00:42:27.320 Federation? Because you provide a bit of a community for
00:42:31.760 people who are looking for ways to stand up and have their
00:42:35.160 voices heard. Amen. And it's the best part of the job. And
00:42:39.160 it's the best part of Taxpayers Federation, actually. So folks
00:42:42.560 can go to our website, taxpayer.com, click on the
00:42:46.280 petitions tab. And this is where it's important because it's
00:42:49.400 kind of like you're signing up for a certain battalion, okay, of
00:42:54.040 which part of the armed forces, the taxpayer armed forces you want to
00:42:58.040 join here. And basically pick something that speaks to you. If you
00:43:02.040 want to cancel the gun grab, sign that petition. If you want to defund the media,
00:43:07.640 something near and dear to both of our hearts, sign that petition. I think my,
00:43:12.040 you know, little petition to get rid of sales tax on thrift shop items is
00:43:15.480 still there. It's important. It's important. It is important. Stop taxing poor
00:43:19.480 people. Quit being absolute demons. Awful. Right. So things like that, right? Sign those
00:43:25.800 petitions. And then the next time that issue comes up, so when they're, for example, not
00:43:30.480 balancing the budget or they're seizing firearms or they're giving the media more
00:43:35.120 money, you'll get like an action update alert email saying, okay, it's time to
00:43:39.840 everybody email your minister at once. Everybody phone your local MP. Everybody
00:43:44.480 get out and come to, you know, we're, we're having a teddies event or handing out
00:43:47.600 golden pig statues. Everybody come out. So it's kind of a community where then you
00:43:53.040 actually speak truth to power and we chat with you. We answer all of our emails
00:43:58.000 personally. Okay. And I know you do. I can vote for that. I know you do.
00:44:03.200 It's just a really good way. It's a sense of, I get a sense of fellowship out of it.
00:44:07.920 And I think it matters to feel that you're not alone. So, so, and we get results. So
00:44:12.800 remember back when the government was going to increase the capital gains tax
00:44:16.960 without going through parliament? Well, we took action. We were taking them to court,
00:44:21.120 court, like fighting them in court. They backed off that like a burning building.
00:44:25.600 So we do get results. The carbon tax, carbon tax, right? Yes. I know they're plotting a new one.
00:44:32.880 Yes. I know the industrial carbon tax, but I don't know about you, Sheila, my gas is still 20 cents
00:44:38.160 cheaper than it was. That's serious savings. So, and that was a long fight. So we win the fights,
00:44:45.440 but we also have a good time and we connect with people while we're doing it. So thank you for
00:44:49.520 letting me do my Ted talk there. Happy warriors. Chris, thank you so much for coming on the show.
00:44:54.640 Thank you so much for being my friend and a good friend to taxpayers. And we'll have you back on
00:44:59.840 again very soon. Thank you, Sheila.
00:45:01.920 As always, I turn over the last segment of the show to you because without you, there's no rebel news.
00:45:16.000 So I want to know what you think about the work that we do here. If you want to get in touch with
00:45:21.040 me directly, you can send me an email. It's Sheila at rebel news.com put gun show letters in the subject
00:45:27.200 line. So I know why you're emailing me, but also if you are watching and or sharing free clips of the
00:45:34.800 show with your friends to introduce them to rebel news, plus, um, encourage them to leave comments
00:45:43.680 on our work, um, because it helps us get higher on the algorithm, uh, because our work is engaged with
00:45:52.800 and the algorithms like work that's engaged with and commented on. And so it serves it up to more
00:46:01.360 people so that more people can discover the work that we do here at rebel news. And perhaps ultimately
00:46:07.200 one day become a subscriber and supporter of the work that we do here. So that is why sometimes I
00:46:13.040 go looking for the comments over on YouTube or on rumble. I want to know what those people think too,
00:46:19.360 because they're commenting and even the hate comments help us, um, be viewed and consumed
00:46:27.200 more by people. Now, many of you know that last week I went to the UK for less than 24 hours.
00:46:38.160 It took me 18 hours to get there. And then I was on the ground for a little bit over that. And then
00:46:42.480 another 18 hours to get back because I was covering a court hearing of citizen journalists and activist
00:46:49.680 Tommy Robinson, Cole's notes version of the court hearing. He has been charged with, uh, harassment,
00:46:58.720 criminal harassment. Now you won't even believe this. He was on vacation with his kids in Cyprus
00:47:06.880 out of the country, out of the prying eye of the UK paparazzi. And he was with his children. I want to
00:47:16.480 reiterate with his children. Two Daily Mail journalists followed him to Cyprus and took pictures of him
00:47:24.960 with his children. Instead of physically attacking him like them, like what a lot of dads might do if
00:47:32.720 weirdos, uh, were taking pictures of their children. Tommy turned the camera on them. He took their pictures
00:47:40.560 and then he published their names. And so that according to the UK police amounts to criminal
00:47:50.320 harassment. Now it was the first hearing where Tommy entered a plea of not guilty. I went there to
00:48:00.720 hear about Tommy's conditions. If he would be released because it's always a miracle when Tommy
00:48:06.960 goes to court and isn't taken directly into custody. Now they did release him. They released him with some
00:48:11.600 pretty strict conditions. He can't talk about the case. He can't name the journalists involved.
00:48:16.000 Um, you can't name the judge involved, the prosecutors, anything. He is basically completely gagged.
00:48:22.640 But before he was gagged, I met him at a coffee shop and we had a little chat about why he was in court.
00:48:32.880 And, uh, I gave him the ability to talk about something he knew he wouldn't be able to talk about in
00:48:43.120 quite literally under an hour after our conversation. And so let's hear what you have to say about that
00:48:49.920 interview. Toby Reed 59. No, sorry. Toby Reed 529 says, as a survivor of something similar to the
00:48:57.120 grooming gangs, Tommy is my hero. I followed his story from the start and I can honestly say I've
00:49:02.240 seen nothing to warrant him going to jail. To be honest, the reporter prosecuting Tommy is actually
00:49:07.520 causing me harm and worry that this court case will set our country back years. My family are
00:49:12.880 scared and afraid as well. What's the reporter's name, please? I feel a lawsuit coming on up.
00:49:18.400 The names are out there. You can find them. They work for the Daily Mail. Um, but I'm, I can't name them.
00:49:28.480 If you watch my subsequent reporting at tommyreports.com, you'll see the conditions
00:49:35.360 listed and the names are thus protected right now.
00:49:42.400 John Lemon 1863 says they've made Tommy stronger than ever. Yeah, I think so. I think more people know
00:49:48.480 about him than ever before. It's the Streisand effect. Do you know the Streisand effect? Uh,
00:49:57.200 Barbara Streisand once objected to a photo of her palatial home being published,
00:50:06.560 which only caused people to want to look at the photo of her palatial home even more. And that's
00:50:13.360 what they're doing to Tommy. The more they censor him, the more people want to know what's so bad
00:50:19.280 that they have to censor him. And then they realize that what he is saying is true, but inconvenient
00:50:29.360 and difficult to the establishment. The real rant room says it's never ending. What a joke. They're
00:50:36.640 throwing anything that sticks. Yeah, absolutely true. They're trying anything. I mean, if you watch
00:50:44.000 that interview with Tommy, he says that he was recharged, like charged like hours after getting
00:50:55.200 out of jail where he was in, uh, where he was being held for civil contempt of court for publishing a
00:51:04.080 documentary about grooming gangs. And he had been in there for months and months and they just can't
00:51:13.280 have Tommy walk in the streets, can they? Being public enemy number one of the establishment. And so
00:51:21.760 he's out. They picked him right back up. These charges stem from August of 2024. They had him for
00:51:28.720 seven months. They could have charged him at any point. Uh, but the idea was to charge him and
00:51:34.160 hopefully he would thus go back to jail and not be released on conditions, but shocking, shocking to
00:51:39.280 even myself, they did release him. Uh, and, uh, Jeff three, Tom, seven, 10 says, well done, dude.
00:51:50.080 John Shank 251 says you're one hell of a man that you are doing so proud to support you. If only by writing.
00:51:58.720 Yeah. William Keith 8740 says love rebel news supporting rational thinkers and patriots.
00:52:09.120 Uh, I think you must support the truth, right? And sometimes you can't change the injustice in
00:52:20.880 front of you, but alone. But if you talk about it, if you show people it, maybe, maybe you'll make a
00:52:29.600 difference. Maybe you'll change hearts and minds, but maybe you won't, but at least it's better than
00:52:34.800 nothing. And just standing by sort of saying like, it's just little old me. What can I do?
00:52:42.240 You could talk about it, tell everybody, you know, about it. And sometimes that's,
00:52:49.920 that's better than nothing. And sometimes that's as effective as anything. Okay. Well,
00:52:56.000 everybody, that's the show for today. Thank you so much for tuning in. I'll see everybody back here
00:53:00.640 in the same time, in the same place next week. It might not be in the same place. I don't know what
00:53:04.720 I'm doing next week. I shouldn't make those promises. But as I always say, don't let the government
00:53:11.280 tell you that you've had too much to think.
