00:04:58.920 Next, the seeds enter a roller mill, which crush them into thin flakes.
00:05:05.680 A conveyor then feeds the flakes into a screw press.
00:05:08.920 As the shaft turns, its threads squeeze the flakes with high pressure, forcing out the oil.
00:05:14.880 The remainder is still trapped in the pressed flakes, now referred to as canola cake.
00:05:20.280 This one, a 70-minute wash with a solvent.
00:05:23.700 This chemical extraction process removes all but a trace of oil.
00:05:27.300 The extracted oil, stored in large tanks, now enters the refining phase.
00:05:32.820 They wash the oil for 20 minutes with sodium hydroxide.
00:05:36.480 After this cleaning process, the canola oil is visibly clearer.
00:05:40.380 Meanwhile, back in the factory, after washing and filtering the oil, they bleach it to lighten the color.
00:05:46.620 Then use a steam injection heating process to remove the canola odor.
00:05:51.140 The oil is now fully refined and ready for bottling.
00:05:54.100 The main ingredients that we've shifted our diet to, it's sugar, which is 100x.

00:06:24.980 Our main source of fat, when you look at the label, canola oil, sorboid oil, this is an industrial byproduct that's much cheaper than good fats like olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, grass-fed butter, things like that.
