00:15:03.420 referendum in 2004 where 79.6 voted against against i think it was 79.6 voted against this so it's

00:15:11.000 overwhelming four out of five people so ireland was a fairly homogenous culture after um after the

00:15:17.540 rising in 1916 and then formation of the the free state 1921 ireland was a very homogenous culture

00:15:24.060 there wasn't very many foreigners here at all there really wasn't like you can go back and look at the

00:15:28.320 irish census records from from 1920 and and and back as far as those years there's just a handful of

00:15:36.280 foreigners on the island you know what i mean it's it's a majority irish country obviously with the

00:15:41.300 efforts up north but um the main decades of change would have been in 90s and the noughties so in the

00:15:48.000 90s is when we saw a lot of the uh african immigration the the africans coming over and having their anchor

00:15:53.080 babies um we also saw a lot of immigration from eastern europe mainly poles and slovaks but they were

00:16:00.200 completely different and because obviously we share a lot culturally with with the eastern europeans the

00:16:05.940 polish especially the catholic traditions and you know that the matriarchal society where we respect

00:16:11.260 for our mothers and you know we cherish our grandmothers and all that very similar to the

00:16:16.520 poles so they assimilated they worked they fitted in they had children and a lot of them became

00:16:22.300 you know they didn't become irish but they became they became welcome in the country you know
