00:00:00.000 Mr. Biden said he would be willing to get a vaccine. He would not require it.
00:00:04.880 I don't think it should be mandatory. I wouldn't demand to be mandatory,
00:00:07.360 but I would do everything in my power.
00:00:10.060 Where do things stand as far as the president deciding whether or not he will
00:00:13.180 mandate that federal employees must be vaccinated or members of the military must be vaccinated,
00:00:19.420 or would he work in conjunction with private sector employers who want to have those kinds
00:00:25.420 of requirements? I wouldn't anticipate that we would be putting requirements on private
00:00:29.840 sector companies, and I would expect that we would allow the space for them to put those
00:00:35.140 requirements in place themselves or decide what is best for their workforces. There will be private
00:00:40.840 sector companies and others who make decisions about how to keep their communities safe. That's
00:00:45.280 certainly appropriate. Perhaps the federal government should step in and issue mandates,
00:00:51.460 and if not, are you putting the needs of unvaccinated people ahead of the needs of
00:00:55.900 vaccinated people? One, that's not the role of the federal government. That is the role that 0.95
00:01:00.340 institutions, private sector entities, and others may take. Today, I'm laying out additional steps
00:01:06.560 we should be taking to deliver these life-saving vaccines to more Americans.
00:01:11.240 It's time to impose requirements on key groups to make sure they're vaccinated. The Department of
00:01:17.920 Veterans Affairs will now require COVID-19 vaccines for doctors and nurses and other healthcare workers
00:01:25.280 who provide medical care for our veterans. Every federal government employee will be asked to
00:01:31.100 attest to their vaccination status. Anyone who does not attest or is not vaccinated will be required to.
00:01:41.600 I'm announcing tonight a new plan to require more Americans to be vaccinated to combat those blocking 0.66
00:01:48.780 public health. We must increase vaccinations among the unvaccinated with new vaccination requirements.
00:01:55.980 The time for waiting is over. So tonight, I'm announcing that the Department of Labor
00:02:01.620 is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees that together
00:02:10.660 employ over 80 million workers to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated.
00:02:18.500 We're going to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by increasing the share of the workforce that is
00:02:25.100 vaccinated in businesses all across America. Already, I've announced we'll be requiring vaccinations
00:02:31.900 at all nursing home workers who treat patients on Medicare and Medicaid because I have that federal
00:02:37.920 authority. Tonight, I'm using that same authority to expand that to cover those who work in hospitals,
00:02:44.980 home healthcare facilities, home healthcare facilities, or other medical facilities. Tonight,
00:02:49.540 I'm announcing that we'll require all of nearly 300,000 educators in the federal head paid program,
00:02:57.900 Head Start program. Must be vaccinated as well to protect your youngest. I'm calling on all governors
00:03:03.900 to require vaccination for all teachers and staff. I will sign an executive order that will now require
00:03:11.380 all executive branch federal employees to be vaccinated. All. If you want to work with the federal government
00:03:18.060 and do business with this, get vaccinated. If you want to do business with the federal government,
00:03:24.300 vaccinate your workforce. Tonight, I'm asking each of you to reach out to your unvaccinated patients 0.96
00:03:31.440 over the next two weeks and make a personal appeal to them to get the shot. My message to unvaccinated 1.00
00:03:39.000 Americans is this. What more is there to wait for? What more do you need to see? We've been patient,
00:03:49.480 but our patience is wearing thin, and your refusal has cost all of us.
00:03:55.000 We'll see you next time.
00:04:13.940 Thank you.
