00:03:47.500 Now the question then is, okay, how do we get from Jesus to the Catholic Church?

00:05:07.100 He is a Jew, but he grew up in Greek culture.

00:08:37.080 And what Paul tells us is that Jesus is the promised Messiah.

00:08:45.240 At this time in history, the Bible was greatly influenced by the Persians, right?

00:08:53.000 They believed in good and evil, the Asher and the Jews, okay?

00:08:57.920 And so the Bible began to reflect the Persian belief, especially in the idea of eschatology,

00:09:06.760 And what Jews believed is, they're not afraid of the Romans, because eventually the Messiah

00:09:11.620 will return, or sorry, not return, the Messiah will come to lead them to war against the

00:09:17.180 Romans, and because the Messiah is anointed by God, they will triumph.

00:09:22.800 So the Jews are waiting for the Messiah of war in order for them to reclaim the Davidic

00:09:29.800 kingdom, the kingdom of David.

00:09:33.660 What Paul does that's very clever is that he uses this eschatology, but he says that

00:09:38.920 Jesus is not the Messiah of war, he's the Messiah of peace, okay?

00:09:45.820 And therefore, we Jews should not resist the Romans, okay?

00:09:50.020 So that's the first major culture that Paul uses.

00:09:53.120 The second major culture that Paul uses is the Greek culture.

00:09:57.420 Exactly like the United States and Israel today.

00:10:07.540 serve sure all uses the second major culture that Paul uses is the Greek

00:12:10.060 So the Roman social structure is called the paterfamilias, and how the system works is, at the very top, there's one patriarch.

00:12:27.600 This is where we get the word patriarchy, right? And then, he has lots of children, right? Sons, and also he has slaves as well.

00:12:41.900 The patriarch is at the very top.

00:12:43.860 In this system, the patriarch is always right.

00:12:48.080 Here you have slaves.

00:12:49.720 Now what the patriarch will do is,

00:12:51.080 he will identify very promising slaves,

00:12:55.200 slaves with talent, and will turn them into clients.

00:13:03.400 So now they're able to conduct business on his behalf.

00:13:35.080 and from the system, he will copy it to create the church.

00:14:12.740 Now, why would the Romans want to do this? Because if you think about it, this is the perfect solution to the problem of Jesus.

00:14:20.740 As a patriarch, your main concern is getting your slaves to work hard, right? You want to suck the energy out of them.
