SNEAKO - SNEAKO Reacts to the TRUTH About Julian Assange!

00:00:00.000 The danger of ignoring Julian Assange.

00:00:02.720 Free Julian Assange. Did I say his name right?

00:00:04.380 I don't even know who that is.

00:00:05.380 You haven't heard about him? You haven't heard about WikiLeaks?

00:00:07.320 Nah. I mean, I know what WikiLeaks is. He started that?

00:00:10.320 Let's watch.

00:00:14.100 On a spring day 10 years ago,

00:00:16.580 a 41-year-old Australian man named Julian Assange

00:00:19.600 dressed up as a motorcycle delivery man.

00:00:22.460 He dyed his hair, put colored contacts in his eyes,

00:00:25.980 and even put a rock in his shoe

00:00:28.080 so that he would walk differently than normal.

00:00:30.400 He was sure he was being followed by dark government forces

00:00:33.780 that were attempting to capture him

00:00:35.740 and send him to the United States to be locked up.

00:00:39.800 He showed up here,

00:00:41.360 to the Embassy of Ecuador in central London.

00:00:45.060 Once inside this embassy,

00:00:46.920 he wouldn't be on British soil anymore.

00:00:49.120 No one could barge in here and grab him.

00:00:51.960 He'd be safe.

00:00:54.020 It's called political asylum.

00:00:58.080 Oh, and by the way,

00:00:59.080 this is an actual footage of Julian Assange in 2012.

00:01:02.040 Action!

00:01:03.360 You're great.

00:01:04.860 This is an actor.

00:01:06.140 We did a reenactment of this whole thing.

00:01:08.380 Anyway. 0.99

00:01:08.960 Yeah, no shit. 1.00

00:01:09.960 No fucking shit. 1.00

00:01:11.180 He wasn't vlogging the whole thing, bro? 1.00

00:01:12.480 For real?

00:01:16.200 Assange did make it inside that day,

00:01:18.580 and after entering the Ecuadorian embassy in London,

00:01:21.960 he wouldn't leave it for seven years.

00:01:24.600 Testing one, two, three.

00:01:28.380 I've been looking at a lot of this.

00:01:37.820 I've actually started hanging up the documents over here

00:01:41.120 because they've been taking up too much space.

00:01:44.060 I want to tell you the story of Julian Assange. 0.98

00:01:47.200 This guy's a traitor. 0.78

00:01:48.420 I love WikiLeaks. 0.98

00:01:49.600 This is a blow to transparency

00:01:51.340 and a blow to a free press.

00:01:53.880 Yo, free him. 0.92

00:01:55.380 Go.

00:01:56.200 The reason that they say he's a traitor

00:01:57.780 is because he was exposing government secrets.

00:02:00.920 Why would anyone call him a traitor?

00:02:02.400 We're the people.

00:02:03.460 The government is not with us.

00:02:05.100 He was trying to reveal valuable information

00:02:07.640 so that we could wake up to the fact

00:02:08.940 that the government is trying to control us

00:02:10.260 beyond what we know.

00:02:11.520 They're actively lying and manipulating,

00:02:13.460 and still, with this out there,

00:02:14.980 people still blindly trust the government.

00:02:16.680 What this story is

00:02:18.020 is like an expression of a new kind of power,

00:02:20.700 the power of secrets, of information.

00:02:24.300 An anti-war online organization

00:02:27.160 attacking U.S. policy in Afghanistan.

00:02:30.440 And the reason I'm calling what Julian Assange does power

00:02:33.080 is because the U.S. is trying to lock him up

00:02:36.120 for 175 years because of what he did.

00:02:39.620 He's probably being tortured right now.

00:02:40.960 It's all here in this indictment.

00:02:42.080 They caught him?

00:02:42.900 Hmm?

00:02:43.320 They caught him?

00:02:43.740 The most powerful country in the world

00:02:46.740 feels threatened by this man and what he's done.

00:02:50.100 I want to take you through Julian Assange's story

00:02:52.540 and then to unpack why the United States

00:02:55.200 is trying to lock him up for the rest of his life.

00:02:57.700 And I want to persuade you that,

00:03:00.220 no matter what you think of Julian Assange

00:03:01.820 and his conduct and his ethics and his mission,

00:03:04.840 this case should not be ignored.

00:03:06.820 You never know what the outcome is,

00:03:21.420 but the truth is always the best place to start.

00:03:25.120 Come on, fire! 1.00

00:03:25.900 Okay, wait.

00:03:32.520 Before we dive into this video,

00:03:34.020 I want to thank today's sponsor.

00:03:39.540 Go see if it works for your life,

00:03:42.520 makes your life better.

00:03:43.780 NordVPN.com slash Johnny Harris.

00:03:45.200 Thank you, NordVPN,

00:03:46.080 for supporting the videos that I do.

00:03:48.320 I really appreciate it.

00:03:49.800 Now let's get back into the story.

00:03:51.080 Okay, let's get up to speed really quickly

00:03:56.080 on who this guy even is

00:03:57.700 and how he ended up trapped in an embassy in London.

00:04:01.120 Julian Assange is an Australian hacker

00:04:03.060 who spent most of his life breaking into computers

00:04:05.520 and getting his hands on information

00:04:07.220 that he wasn't supposed to see,

00:04:09.120 but that he believed the world should see.

00:04:12.280 When he was 35, he built a website

00:04:14.100 where whistleblowers of all kinds

00:04:16.200 could upload sensitive information

00:04:17.980 that he, Julian Assange, on his new website would publish.

00:04:21.420 And the upside of all of this

00:04:22.900 was that these whistleblowers

00:04:24.040 would remain totally anonymous.

00:04:26.040 He claimed that even he wouldn't know

00:04:27.660 who his sources were.

00:04:28.980 So that was 2006.

00:04:30.400 Julian Assange builds WikiLeaks.

00:04:32.600 And soon after, he starts receiving submissions.

00:04:35.740 Like people start giving him documents

00:04:37.740 that are supposed to be secret

00:04:39.080 and he starts publishing them.

00:04:40.460 Everything from drone strikes in Yemen

00:04:42.340 to oil scandals in Peru

00:04:43.900 to corruption in the Arab world, 0.88

00:04:46.220 Tibetan uprisings in China.

00:04:48.240 Leaks like this sort of seem common to us now,

00:04:50.680 but this was like 2007.

00:04:52.700 WikiLeaks was a totally new thing.

00:04:54.560 It was this open source intelligence website

00:04:56.980 acting in the name of no government

00:04:59.200 with no location,

00:05:00.920 but with this very idealistic vision

00:05:02.800 of making the world's information

00:05:04.980 totally transparent,

00:05:06.500 exposing corruption,

00:05:08.380 exposing government secrets.

00:05:09.800 Understand how far you can push government

00:05:15.560 into doing something

00:05:17.260 into just

00:05:18.320 or by exposing injustice.

00:05:21.180 But WikiLeaks wasn't really noticed

00:05:22.880 until 2010,

00:05:24.340 when something happened

00:05:25.320 that would change everything.

00:05:29.680 In Iraq,

00:05:31.260 there was a 22-year-old

00:05:32.500 American intelligence analyst

00:05:34.300 named Chelsea Manning. 0.98

00:05:35.620 Horrified by what she was seeing,

00:05:38.200 she decided to download

00:05:39.500 hundreds of thousands

00:05:40.800 of classified documents

00:05:42.660 from military computers

00:05:44.220 and upload them directly to WikiLeaks.

00:05:51.540 Of course, our top story this morning,

00:05:52.900 the White House

00:05:53.400 blasting the release

00:05:54.720 of over 90,000 U.S. military records

00:05:57.320 on the Republican Party.

00:05:59.140 It was the biggest leak in history.

00:06:01.360 And this is the stuff

00:06:02.640 we've been looking through

00:06:03.780 over the past few weeks.

00:06:05.640 Hundreds of thousands

00:06:06.600 of classified documents

00:06:07.860 containing never-before-seen details

00:06:10.300 on how the U.S. conducts its war,

00:06:13.120 its diplomacy,

00:06:14.340 its intelligence.

00:06:17.320 I mean, let me show you

00:06:18.440 some of this stuff.

00:06:23.600 Now, let me just do

00:06:24.520 a quick disclaimer here.

00:06:26.120 Going through these leaks,

00:06:27.540 there is a lot of, like,

00:06:29.240 horrific stuff.

00:06:30.140 Like, stuff I just don't even

00:06:32.300 want to talk about here.

00:06:34.060 I'll go over it

00:06:34.600 kind of in vague terms

00:06:35.740 and let you go read the rest.

00:06:37.140 I get to the point, man.

00:06:38.400 But war is horrible.

00:06:40.460 And what these documents reveal

00:06:42.340 is, like, a detailed version of that.

00:06:44.540 My fellow citizens,

00:06:45.900 at this hour,

00:06:47.680 American and coalition forces

00:06:49.300 are in the early stages

00:06:50.480 of military operations

00:06:51.760 to disarm Iraq, 0.93

00:06:53.780 to free its people,

00:06:55.280 and to defend the world

00:06:56.300 from grave danger.

00:06:57.560 In these leaks,

00:06:58.160 we learn about secret raids.

00:06:59.140 We read about scenes

00:07:01.040 of U.S. military people

00:07:02.680 executing Iraqi families.

00:07:06.300 We also get a lot of data.

00:07:08.640 The U.S. military claimed

00:07:09.660 that it wasn't keeping track

00:07:11.160 of deaths in Iraq,

00:07:12.620 but these leaks showed

00:07:13.900 that they actually were,

00:07:15.060 and that the number of casualties,

00:07:17.600 including civilian deaths,

00:07:19.800 was actually way higher

00:07:21.280 than anyone thought before.

00:07:22.760 The leaks also revealed

00:07:27.940 this classified footage

00:07:29.240 that, again,

00:07:30.400 I'm not going to show

00:07:31.220 all of it here

00:07:32.180 or even the worst parts.

00:07:33.700 It's more than keep walking by

00:07:35.020 and one of them has a weapon.

00:07:36.540 It's relevant.

00:07:37.180 Call that white six. 1.00

00:07:38.380 That's a weapon.

00:07:39.100 It shows a U.S. helicopter

00:07:40.480 firing on a group of Iraqis 0.99

00:07:42.580 who they thought were insurgents,

00:07:44.080 but was really just a family,

00:07:45.720 including children,

00:07:47.060 walking with two Reuters journalists.

00:07:49.880 They were carrying cameras,

00:07:54.620 not guns.

00:07:57.420 And yet in this video,

00:08:00.540 you see them open fire

00:08:02.340 on these people.

00:08:03.220 Uh, you know,

00:08:04.020 three, two, engage over.

00:08:05.680 Let me know when you're 0.99

00:08:07.500 Gavin or shoot. 0.99

00:08:09.400 Light them all up. 1.00

00:08:11.660 Come on, fire! 1.00

00:08:14.460 Like a Call of Duty game.

00:08:16.900 Hey, Roger.

00:08:19.920 Oh, yeah, look at those 1.00

00:08:20.840 dead bastards. 1.00

00:08:25.140 That's what I say in COD! 1.00

00:08:27.340 Nice.

00:08:28.280 It's their fault

00:08:29.080 for bringing their kids

00:08:29.840 to a battle.

00:08:30.540 That's right.

00:08:32.000 That's right.

00:08:41.520 Okay, we get it.

00:08:42.220 You have a bunch of papers.

00:08:43.160 You did a lot of research.

00:08:43.900 Can you get to the point, bro?

00:08:44.680 You don't need to be

00:08:45.080 a star of the show.

00:08:45.700 About this scene

00:08:46.540 where an Apache helicopter

00:08:47.920 is flying over

00:08:49.740 some insurgents in a house

00:08:51.340 who are surrendering.

00:08:52.480 They're coming out of their house

00:08:53.300 with their hands up.

00:08:54.360 And yet the Apache helicopter

00:08:55.640 gets the clearance

00:08:57.220 to fire on them.

00:08:58.540 And their justification

00:08:59.160 is according to this leaked log,

00:09:02.080 you're not allowed

00:09:02.640 to surrender to aircraft.

00:09:04.880 They're still valid targets.

00:09:06.840 I mean, it's horrendous.

00:09:09.020 As a journalist,

00:09:09.900 I'm skeptical.

00:09:10.480 I'm like, okay,

00:09:10.960 these are like

00:09:11.420 two or three bad apples.

00:09:12.620 Is this what we're staring at?

00:09:14.320 But no.

00:09:15.200 Through these leaks,

00:09:16.400 you see that 15,000 civilians

00:09:19.220 were killed

00:09:19.860 in previously unknown incidents.

00:09:21.860 15,000.

00:09:23.200 These documents reveal

00:09:24.540 a culture and a system

00:09:26.520 of abuse and torture in Iraq,

00:09:29.180 mostly by the Iraqi military and army

00:09:31.920 that the U.S. military knew about,

00:09:33.540 but did nothing to solve.

00:09:34.800 And the only reason

00:09:35.580 why we know about it now

00:09:36.800 is because Chelsea Manning

00:09:39.220 gave WikiLeaks

00:09:40.320 all of these documents.

00:09:43.020 They would have kept this secret

00:09:44.540 till the day all of us die.

00:09:47.240 They don't want you to know this.

00:09:48.620 I don't know how you can hear

00:09:50.300 about the WikiLeaks.

00:09:51.520 I don't know how you can hear

00:09:52.120 about people like Julian Assange

00:09:53.220 or Edward Snowden

00:09:54.540 and still trust the government.

00:09:56.600 I just don't understand it.

00:09:57.860 Department of State leaked

00:09:58.620 from the embassy in Belgium

00:10:00.340 that shows that the U.S.

00:10:02.240 tried to pressure Belgium

00:10:03.960 into taking some of the prisoners

00:10:05.980 from Guantanamo Bay

00:10:07.100 in order to curry favor

00:10:08.680 with the U.S.

00:10:10.140 You see the U.S. being like,

00:10:11.860 hey, Belgium,

00:10:12.460 take some of these Guantanamo prisoners.

00:10:14.320 It's a low-cost way for Belgium

00:10:16.380 to attain prominence in Europe.

00:10:18.260 Like, it's backroom deals

00:10:19.720 exchanging Guantanamo prisoners

00:10:22.340 for political favors.

00:10:24.740 We would have not known any of this

00:10:26.780 had these leaks not come out.

00:10:28.720 All of this turned out

00:10:29.900 to be a very grim insight

00:10:31.700 into how the U.S.

00:10:32.820 is conducting its wars.

00:10:34.440 And unsurprisingly,

00:10:35.360 Can you still find them?

00:10:36.180 Can you still find them?

00:10:37.940 Yeah.

00:10:38.920 Leaks came out in 2010 and 2011

00:10:41.240 on WikiLeaks.

00:10:42.540 The Pentagon was furious.

00:10:44.320 This was dumped on us

00:10:45.520 like it was dumped on you all Sunday.

00:10:47.880 War secrets revealed.

00:10:50.400 Okay, as if that's a bad thing.

00:10:52.880 It is the role of good journalism

00:10:55.220 to take on powerful abuses.

00:10:57.680 And when powerful abuses

00:10:58.780 are taken on,

00:10:59.940 there is always a back reaction.

00:11:01.240 Julian Assange's website

00:11:02.620 had gone from being

00:11:03.940 a small hacker website

00:11:05.580 with some leaks

00:11:06.380 to something that now

00:11:08.060 had worldwide attention.

00:11:10.000 This isn't a WikiLeak.

00:11:11.820 This is a WikiTorrent.

00:11:13.380 These documents have...

00:11:14.480 What does that even mean?

00:11:15.480 ...generated a mix of reactions

00:11:17.000 from horrified to appalled.

00:11:19.480 And Assange himself

00:11:20.660 became the public face for this.

00:11:23.160 And he became really polarizing.

00:11:24.520 He was either praised

00:11:25.480 as a courageous journalist.

00:11:27.060 The role that Julian Assange

00:11:28.740 has played in exposing

00:11:30.460 uncomfortable truths

00:11:31.660 is something that he should

00:11:33.860 be very proud of.

00:11:35.120 WikiLeaks is no different

00:11:36.080 from the New York Times.

00:11:37.280 He just believes in justice,

00:11:38.980 believes in honesty,

00:11:39.920 believes in exposing governments.

00:11:41.940 Or he was reproached

00:11:43.280 and condemned...

00:11:43.780 Who was against this?

00:11:45.840 Who could possibly be against this?

00:11:49.560 L Street, L Street.

00:11:50.140 ...as a villain

00:11:50.700 who was set on damaging

00:11:52.120 the U.S. security interest

00:11:53.760 and putting people in danger

00:11:54.980 in the process. 1.00

00:11:55.960 I hope he rocked in hell 0.99

00:11:57.120 starting with that. 1.00

00:11:58.240 This guy's a...

00:12:00.740 I don't like mine! 1.00

00:12:02.140 Traitor, treasonous... 1.00

00:12:03.380 ...and he has broken 0.99

00:12:04.600 every law of the United States. 0.98

00:12:06.120 A traitor and a treasonous. 0.97

00:12:07.680 How has he broken laws 0.98

00:12:08.860 while they're killing civilians?

00:12:10.860 Illegally shoot the son of a... 0.95

00:12:12.340 But regardless...

00:12:14.860 That's wild that you could say that back...

00:12:16.620 You know, why does he seem like

00:12:18.140 the Daz Games of Fox News?

00:12:21.180 This looks like all the Tate haters.

00:12:23.800 Sounds like them too.

00:12:25.620 Amen that he got banned.

00:12:27.140 It's the same.

00:12:27.900 It's the repeat people.

00:12:29.940 The people who are jealous,

00:12:31.420 people who are part of the system,

00:12:33.260 people who don't want

00:12:34.480 to fight against it,

00:12:35.420 people who want to live

00:12:36.120 and exist in the Matrix

00:12:37.100 will hate the person exposing it.

00:12:39.340 And he has broken...

00:12:41.040 Chad, this is Daz Games right here.

00:12:42.500 You don't know what I'm talking about, bud.

00:12:43.380 Every law of the United States 0.90

00:12:44.420 illegally shoot the son of a...

00:12:46.220 But regardless of what the public 0.74

00:12:47.880 thought about him,

00:12:48.840 the reality is the U.S. government

00:12:50.560 now felt like they were at war

00:12:52.240 with Julian Assange and WikiLeaks.

00:12:54.600 The United States strongly condemns

00:12:56.960 the illegal disclosure

00:12:58.380 of classified information.

00:13:00.920 There have been examples in history

00:13:02.600 in which official conduct

00:13:04.560 has been made public

00:13:05.880 in the name of exposing

00:13:07.760 wrongdoings or misdeeds.

00:13:10.640 This is not one of those cases.

00:13:13.600 And the...

00:13:13.880 Yo, shout out to everybody

00:13:16.280 in this chat who voted

00:13:17.100 for Hillary Clinton, Goofy.

00:13:18.280 The next chapter of his life

00:13:19.380 would be spent

00:13:20.500 trying to avoid being sent

00:13:22.100 to the U.S. to face them.

00:13:23.960 And this is why Julian Assange

00:13:25.820 went to the Ecuadorian embassy

00:13:27.460 in London.

00:13:30.420 Okay, so after this huge leak,

00:13:32.200 it's now like 2012.

00:13:33.580 Assange is living in London

00:13:34.920 and he's actually facing

00:13:36.560 the possibility of being sent

00:13:38.060 to Sweden

00:13:38.740 to face an investigation

00:13:40.400 into sexual misconduct allegations.

00:13:42.560 And even though this Sweden investigation

00:13:44.620 legally has nothing to do

00:13:46.660 with the big leaking thing

00:13:48.320 that he had done,

00:13:49.280 Assange was convinced

00:13:50.160 that the U.K. and Sweden

00:13:52.080 were working with the U.S.

00:13:53.580 to try to get Assange

00:13:55.180 back onto U.S. soil 0.96

00:13:56.420 to face trial.

00:13:57.400 So instead of go

00:13:58.240 and participate in the investigation,

00:14:00.460 he fled

00:14:01.080 to seek political asylum

00:14:03.060 inside the walls

00:14:04.100 of this embassy.

00:14:05.020 An embassy is kind of like

00:14:09.620 a little enclave

00:14:10.460 within a country.

00:14:11.520 Like this is a little slice

00:14:12.860 of Ecuador within London.

00:14:14.620 So the U.K. couldn't do anything.

00:14:15.980 They couldn't go storm

00:14:16.700 into an embassy.

00:14:17.800 So instead,

00:14:18.400 they just positioned

00:14:19.020 a ton of police

00:14:20.060 outside of the embassy.

00:14:23.700 And this is the moment,

00:14:25.020 this spectacle

00:14:25.700 of all these police

00:14:26.720 sitting outside of the embassy

00:14:28.040 where you realize

00:14:29.040 that this is a huge deal.

00:14:30.460 On paper,

00:14:31.340 this was actually

00:14:31.860 a really small deal.

00:14:32.600 The U.S. wanted

00:14:33.860 to arrest Assange

00:14:35.020 to send him to Sweden

00:14:36.320 to face this

00:14:37.120 sexual misconduct investigation.

00:14:38.740 But all of this

00:14:39.640 shows us

00:14:40.460 that this is not about

00:14:41.580 a small investigation

00:14:42.980 in Sweden.

00:14:44.380 The U.S. wanted Assange

00:14:46.040 to punish him

00:14:46.760 for what he did.

00:14:47.760 And the U.K.,

00:14:49.020 it was looking like,

00:14:49.920 was ready to help them.

00:14:51.200 Sounds familiar?

00:14:52.540 Some guy exposes

00:14:53.720 the truth

00:14:54.720 about what's going on

00:14:55.960 behind the scenes,

00:14:57.560 tries to help the people,

00:14:59.280 and they make up

00:15:00.060 some sexual misconduct case

00:15:01.680 to get him arrested

00:15:02.800 and get him off 0.97

00:15:03.920 and so that they

00:15:04.700 can't talk anymore.

00:15:06.260 So while Assange is...

00:15:07.500 Not to get him off,

00:15:08.200 that was a bad choice of words.

00:15:09.360 You don't understand

00:15:09.820 what I was saying, right?

00:15:11.820 Yeah, I got you.

00:15:12.500 Okay, okay, okay.

00:15:13.260 In the walls of this embassy,

00:15:14.980 he's protected.

00:15:15.940 And the U.S. would have

00:15:16.640 to wait him out,

00:15:18.020 building their case.

00:15:19.840 But wait a minute,

00:15:20.540 hold on.

00:15:21.720 What exactly

00:15:22.640 are we charging Assange

00:15:24.020 with here?

00:15:24.780 He published a bunch

00:15:25.720 of leaked documents.

00:15:27.000 So what is the crime here?

00:15:28.780 And honestly,

00:15:29.360 that is the heart

00:15:30.000 of this story.

00:15:31.000 What crime did he commit?

00:15:32.780 I'm going to get there.

00:15:33.520 I want to just finish

00:15:34.040 the story of what happens next.

00:15:36.860 Is that treason

00:15:37.420 if he was an Australian?

00:15:40.400 He wasn't an American citizen?

00:15:41.560 No, he's Australian. 1.00

00:15:42.820 What the fuck? 1.00

00:15:43.840 Treason is he committing? 1.00

00:15:44.840 How is he a traitor?

00:15:46.040 Yeah, I don't know.

00:15:46.880 Julian Assange

00:15:47.600 is in an embassy

00:15:48.460 in London.

00:15:49.540 The weeks turn into months

00:15:51.180 and the months

00:15:51.940 turn into years.

00:15:53.880 And Julian Assange

00:15:54.780 is living in an embassy,

00:15:57.080 not leaving.

00:15:57.820 He occasionally comes out

00:15:59.060 onto this balcony

00:15:59.800 to deliver a speech

00:16:01.300 to his...

00:16:01.780 Goat. 1.00

00:16:02.720 Fucking go, bro. 1.00

00:16:03.980 Years at an embassy? 1.00

00:16:05.340 How did he get him out?

00:16:06.280 Huh?

00:16:06.540 How did he get him out?

00:16:07.760 I don't even...

00:16:08.360 I don't remember.

00:16:09.200 Support base.

00:16:10.200 Can you hear me?

00:16:12.820 But like,

00:16:13.720 this guy is confined

00:16:14.800 to the embassy.

00:16:15.860 Well, I joked

00:16:16.460 it's a little bit like

00:16:17.260 living in a space station

00:16:18.220 because there's no natural life

00:16:19.740 and there's...

00:16:20.600 You've got to make

00:16:21.100 all your own stuff

00:16:21.860 and you can't go out

00:16:23.140 to shops

00:16:23.560 and so on.

00:16:25.000 From the embassy,

00:16:26.020 Assange continues

00:16:26.940 to run WikiLeaks.

00:16:28.360 He publishes troves

00:16:29.560 of secret documents.

00:16:31.040 It is from the embassy

00:16:32.040 that he declares

00:16:33.040 his hate for Hillary Clinton.

00:16:34.780 The American liberal press

00:16:35.880 are in falling over themselves

00:16:38.020 to defend Hillary Clinton

00:16:39.920 are erecting a demon

00:16:41.900 that is going to put nooses

00:16:44.020 around everyone.

00:16:44.840 Yeah!

00:16:45.880 Lock her up! 1.00

00:16:47.100 Lock her up! 1.00

00:16:48.040 Exactly, bro!

00:16:49.160 Yo, Hillary Clinton king! 0.55

00:16:50.920 Who's next?

00:16:51.460 And it is here

00:16:52.180 that he orchestrates

00:16:53.240 a plan to damage

00:16:54.900 her campaign 1.00

00:16:55.780 by strategically

00:16:56.600 publishing emails

00:16:57.660 that were stolen from...

00:16:58.960 Why do you keep saying that?

00:17:00.700 No, like, 1.00

00:17:01.380 Hillary Clinton sucks 1.00

00:17:02.480 like in Minecraft. 1.00

00:17:03.620 Like, not in real life.

00:17:04.400 Like, Hillary Clinton K

00:17:05.240 in a video game.

00:17:06.940 Oh, got you.

00:17:07.820 You got what I'm saying?

00:17:08.700 Yeah, Hillary Clinton 1.00

00:17:09.420 is the worst person 1.00

00:17:10.640 ever to exist 0.99

00:17:11.600 and she's literally 0.95

00:17:12.180 a walking demon lizard

00:17:13.440 in Minecraft.

00:17:14.620 Democratic Party

00:17:15.480 and from Clinton's

00:17:16.780 campaign chair,

00:17:17.520 John Podesta,

00:17:18.600 WikiLeaks posted

00:17:19.480 these emails

00:17:20.180 in daily batches

00:17:21.520 throughout October 2016,

00:17:23.420 a month before the election.

00:17:25.040 Soon,

00:17:25.560 mounting evidence

00:17:26.380 showed that WikiLeaks

00:17:27.480 got these emails,

00:17:28.660 potentially unknowingly,

00:17:30.160 from a Russian government agent

00:17:31.660 who, like Assange,

00:17:33.300 was trying to damage

00:17:34.240 the Clinton campaign.

00:17:35.480 The leaked emails

00:17:36.400 helped the Trump campaign

00:17:37.820 and quickly made Assange

00:17:39.580 an enemy

00:17:40.200 of American progressives

00:17:41.760 who had tended

00:17:42.580 to support Assange

00:17:43.840 and WikiLeaks

00:17:44.660 because they were

00:17:45.800 keeping the government

00:17:46.780 and the military accountable.

00:17:49.020 But now they hated them.

00:17:49.860 WikiLeaks.

00:17:50.720 I love WikiLeaks.

00:17:51.640 So now it's 2017.

00:17:52.580 Yo, bro.

00:17:53.860 Yo, yo, yo. 0.99

00:17:54.780 I'm really starting

00:17:55.520 to be convinced, bro.

00:17:56.720 I would vote for Trump

00:17:57.880 in 2024.

00:17:59.060 I would vote for Trump.

00:18:00.200 But I think

00:18:01.060 in Minecraft,

00:18:02.080 they would try

00:18:02.660 to maybe

00:18:03.620 alter the course

00:18:05.600 and change your votes

00:18:07.280 based on mail-in ballots

00:18:08.560 in Minecraft.

00:18:09.360 ...and Trump is president.

00:18:11.440 This WikiLeaks

00:18:12.120 is unbelievable.

00:18:13.260 Assange is still

00:18:14.260 in the embassy.

00:18:15.420 And from the embassy,

00:18:16.740 Assange and WikiLeaks

00:18:18.140 drop another huge leak,

00:18:19.860 this time of CIA documents.

00:18:21.920 It revealed the playbook

00:18:23.300 of the CIA's

00:18:24.220 cyber warfare strategy.

00:18:25.780 Don't you see how

00:18:26.260 they just deleted Tate

00:18:27.480 off of all social media

00:18:28.480 just like they deleted

00:18:29.340 Trump off of all social media?

00:18:31.300 An outsider who's

00:18:32.200 made money

00:18:32.740 not being...

00:18:34.280 Well, Trump was buddy-buddy

00:18:35.600 with some of the elites,

00:18:36.540 but Trump was an outsider.

00:18:37.960 He wasn't part of the system.

00:18:40.180 So that triggers

00:18:41.960 the powers that be

00:18:42.980 and they just had to

00:18:43.620 erase him

00:18:44.240 instead of dealing with them

00:18:45.380 because people

00:18:45.880 who are outside like that

00:18:47.040 who don't conform,

00:18:48.500 that's why they just

00:18:49.000 raided his house.

00:18:49.980 They're the biggest threat

00:18:51.100 to the agenda.

00:18:53.180 Releasing all of these documents

00:18:54.740 has one major...

00:18:56.040 This is actually mad interesting.

00:18:57.140 ...result.

00:18:58.140 Making all of the CIA's tools

00:19:00.320 completely worthless.

00:19:02.080 Trump,

00:19:02.540 who had praised WikiLeaks

00:19:04.340 for like helping him

00:19:05.260 get elected,

00:19:06.120 now hated WikiLeaks.

00:19:07.820 No!

00:19:08.420 I know nothing about WikiLeaks.

00:19:10.360 It's not my thing.

00:19:11.520 WikiLeaks walks like a hostage.

00:19:12.960 Hostile intelligence service

00:19:13.840 and talks...

00:19:14.920 Never mind about what I said about Trump.

00:19:16.460 ...like a hostile

00:19:17.000 intelligence service.

00:19:18.340 So by 2019,

00:19:19.900 Julian Assange is still

00:19:21.180 in the embassy

00:19:21.920 and now he's pissed off everyone

00:19:23.600 for one reason.

00:19:24.560 It didn't seem like he dissed it,

00:19:25.400 it just seems like he backtracked.

00:19:26.460 I don't know anything about WikiLeaks,

00:19:28.100 but...

00:19:28.540 Bot.

00:19:29.280 I'm a bot.

00:19:30.020 Nah, Trump.

00:19:30.740 Yeah. 1.00

00:19:31.320 Trump does some bot shit. 0.99

00:19:32.800 It's at this time 1.00

00:19:33.800 that the Trump administration

00:19:34.820 starts to really get serious

00:19:37.040 about how do we get this guy

00:19:38.660 and how do we punish him

00:19:40.140 severely for what he's done.

00:19:41.760 They start upping the ante

00:19:43.000 on their case

00:19:43.820 against Julian Assange.

00:19:45.180 But Assange starts

00:19:46.300 to get really restless

00:19:47.320 in the embassy.

00:19:48.260 I mean, can you blame him?

00:19:49.000 It's been like seven years.

00:19:50.540 He starts to mistrust his hosts

00:19:52.700 and in turn,

00:19:54.140 his hosts,

00:19:54.860 the Ecuadorian diplomats,

00:19:56.360 are getting kind of tired of him.

00:19:57.980 His poor hygiene,

00:19:59.160 his habit of playing football

00:20:00.560 in the hallways.

00:20:01.600 Meanwhile, Ecuador's new president...

00:20:02.920 Seven years in there

00:20:04.120 is crazy, bro.

00:20:05.580 Let the guy play a little football

00:20:06.820 in the hallways.

00:20:07.540 I mean, I understand

00:20:08.200 why he went insane.

00:20:09.220 I understand.

00:20:10.320 I mean, of course

00:20:10.980 I would get rude in there.

00:20:11.980 Kurt is like less sympathetic

00:20:13.200 to WikiLeaks

00:20:13.980 because he was actually

00:20:15.460 the subject

00:20:15.980 of some embarrassing leaks himself.

00:20:17.740 He actually called Assange 0.82

00:20:18.960 a miserable hacker 0.86

00:20:20.160 whose only goal 0.99

00:20:21.020 is to destabilize governments.

00:20:22.920 And so,

00:20:24.060 they kicked him out.

00:20:25.880 Wow.

00:20:26.760 He got addicted.

00:20:27.280 The British police

00:20:28.180 were seemingly invited

00:20:29.460 into this very small embassy.

00:20:31.340 Seven years after

00:20:32.300 he had walked into this building,

00:20:34.380 Assange finally left.

00:20:37.500 He was immediately arrested.

00:20:39.960 Again, on paper,

00:20:41.300 the UK government wanted him

00:20:42.680 because of this sexual investigation

00:20:44.500 in Sweden from 2000...

00:20:45.980 Well, that investigation

00:20:47.780 had been dropped

00:20:48.580 and yet the UK kept him in jail

00:20:50.720 because the US

00:20:52.400 had formally requested

00:20:54.140 Assange to be extradited.

00:20:55.960 You see how all the governments

00:20:56.940 work together?

00:20:58.040 Which basically means

00:20:59.000 one country

00:20:59.600 asked another country

00:21:00.700 to detain

00:21:01.540 and send a criminal

00:21:02.720 back to their country 1.00

00:21:03.940 to face charges.

00:21:05.260 The UK would hear

00:21:06.580 and assess the US's request

00:21:08.340 and in the meantime,

00:21:09.780 Assange would sit

00:21:10.840 in the Belmarch prison

00:21:12.180 45 minutes from central London.

00:21:14.500 And that's where he is today

00:21:15.960 when I'm filming this.

00:21:17.280 And he's not doing great.

00:21:19.680 He's been examined

00:21:20.460 by doctors

00:21:21.880 and by the...

00:21:23.000 Free this man!

00:21:24.740 A living legend!

00:21:26.220 A hero!

00:21:27.520 And the amount of people

00:21:28.380 wishing death on him

00:21:29.580 is just really eye-opening 0.88

00:21:31.760 to the fact that people

00:21:32.680 will adamantly defend

00:21:33.900 the Matrix

00:21:34.360 instead of...

00:21:36.280 And it kind of shows you

00:21:39.000 that there's no way around it.

00:21:40.040 I think if the US wants you,

00:21:41.340 they're going to get you

00:21:41.960 one way or the other.

00:21:42.440 Yeah, they're going to get you

00:21:43.140 when you start whistleblowing. 0.99

00:21:44.680 But this is a fucking hero. 0.99

00:21:47.100 ...when representative 1.00

00:21:47.960 for torture.

00:21:49.660 And they've basically...

00:21:51.120 Yeah, they're probably

00:21:51.600 torturing him right now.

00:21:52.660 What do you think they're doing to him?

00:21:56.100 I don't even want to...

00:21:56.740 ...cluded that Assange

00:21:57.740 has experienced

00:21:58.720 severe psychological trauma

00:22:00.980 because of his isolation

00:22:02.320 in the embassy

00:22:03.020 and now in jail,

00:22:04.380 including extreme stress,

00:22:05.920 chronic anxiety,

00:22:06.920 intense psychological trauma.

00:22:08.700 The British government,

00:22:09.520 of course,

00:22:09.800 disagreed with this.

00:22:11.040 But the UN has said

00:22:12.720 that he has been subject

00:22:14.100 to psychological torture

00:22:15.720 and other cruel,

00:22:17.020 inhumane,

00:22:17.760 or degrading treatment

00:22:18.880 of punishment.

00:22:20.160 They also claim that

00:22:21.260 he's been medically neglected.

00:22:23.700 Many are calling this

00:22:24.920 retaliation.

00:22:26.180 Why didn't Trump pardon him?

00:22:28.220 Punishing assaults,

00:22:28.860 not legally,

00:22:30.600 but through these

00:22:31.440 really inhumane ways

00:22:32.520 of not giving him

00:22:33.260 medical treatment,

00:22:34.640 isolating him

00:22:35.460 in ways that aren't warranted.

00:22:37.120 And now is the moment

00:22:37.920 where we need to remind ourselves

00:22:39.240 why this man is in jail.

00:22:41.500 Not because he's been charged

00:22:42.660 with a crime,

00:22:43.580 but because he published

00:22:44.580 hundreds of thousands

00:22:45.340 of classified documents

00:22:46.520 that an army intel analyst,

00:22:48.520 Chelsea Manning,

00:22:49.160 gave to him.

00:22:50.000 And the U.S. wants to punish him.

00:22:52.000 So he's rotting in a jail.

00:22:53.840 They want to punish him

00:22:54.880 for telling the truth.

00:22:56.560 They want to silence him

00:22:57.480 for telling...

00:22:57.720 He committed no crime.

00:22:59.040 What crime did he commit?

00:23:00.540 What?

00:23:00.780 Isn't that freedom of speech?

00:23:02.000 He's not even an American. 0.96

00:23:03.200 It's not treason.

00:23:05.660 Waiting for the legal process

00:23:07.200 on whether or not

00:23:07.940 he's going to get sent back

00:23:08.740 to the U.S.

00:23:09.240 to face these charges.

00:23:10.840 And to me,

00:23:11.500 this gets to the most important

00:23:12.900 part of this story.

00:23:13.840 Because what happens next

00:23:15.600 affects not just Julian Assange

00:23:17.740 and his story,

00:23:19.060 but it could set a precedent

00:23:20.280 for all of us.

00:23:22.060 Those of us who do journalism

00:23:23.200 and those of us

00:23:24.020 who rely on journalism

00:23:25.760 to teach us about the world.

00:23:27.360 What I want to do next

00:23:28.400 is I want to dive into this stuff.

00:23:30.920 I want to walk you through

00:23:32.520 these two documents,

00:23:34.360 which are basically

00:23:35.320 the U.S.' case

00:23:36.780 against Julian Assange,

00:23:38.440 as laid out

00:23:39.200 by the Trump administration

00:23:40.240 in 2018.

00:23:41.440 It's daunting.

00:23:42.820 It's a lot of stuff.

00:23:43.620 It's a lot of legal jargon.

00:23:45.260 But Trump used him

00:23:46.820 to get elected.

00:23:48.140 I love WikiLeaks.

00:23:49.440 I love WikiLeaks.

00:23:50.420 WikiLeaks is the greatest.

00:23:51.900 And then he's the one

00:23:52.680 who wrote up the case,

00:23:53.840 his administration.

00:23:54.720 Been through it all.

00:23:55.880 And I want to explain why this happened.

00:23:57.340 They're all not voting, bro.

00:23:59.040 Everybody got to vote

00:23:59.800 independent or something.

00:24:00.700 Okay, let's do this. 1.00

00:24:02.020 Oh, shit. 1.00

00:24:02.780 Here we go. 1.00

00:24:05.680 Okay.

00:24:06.720 Okay.

00:24:07.120 So stick with me

00:24:09.160 as I explain

00:24:09.900 the legal case

00:24:10.960 against Julian Assange

00:24:11.860 and what that means

00:24:13.120 for journalism.

00:24:15.920 Okay, we get it, dude.

00:24:16.920 You have a lot of papers and stuff.

00:24:18.340 Just read the information.

00:24:20.640 The thing that

00:24:21.480 the Department of Justice

00:24:22.320 focuses on

00:24:23.280 is the events of 2010

00:24:25.440 when Assange received

00:24:27.400 tons of classified cables

00:24:29.480 and war logs

00:24:30.360 from Intel analyst

00:24:31.940 Chelsea Manning,

00:24:33.000 who was previously

00:24:34.040 Bradley Manning

00:24:34.880 has transitioned

00:24:35.560 to Chelsea Manning.

00:24:36.640 Manning had a security clearance,

00:24:38.920 violated that security clearance,

00:24:40.480 and ended up

00:24:41.840 serving seven years in prison

00:24:43.540 for leaking

00:24:44.400 all of this stuff

00:24:45.320 to WikiLeaks.

00:24:46.320 It would have been 35 years.

00:24:47.700 W. Chelsea Manning

00:24:48.800 did seven years

00:24:50.220 so that we could know the truth.

00:24:51.240 If Obama hadn't

00:24:52.180 lessened her sentence.

00:24:53.480 So the U.S. focuses...

00:24:54.440 Oh, that's a woman? 1.00

00:24:55.560 It used to be Bradley Manning.

00:24:58.220 You didn't hear him say that?

00:24:59.600 A word?

00:25:00.200 Yeah, they transitioned.

00:25:01.360 I thought you were joking.

00:25:02.220 Nah.

00:25:02.720 Huh.

00:25:03.660 On this super giant leak.

00:25:05.700 They start out by reminding us

00:25:07.500 just how many documents

00:25:09.440 were leaked.

00:25:10.540 If you add this up,

00:25:11.140 it's like over 700,000

00:25:12.960 classified documents

00:25:14.220 were leaked to the world.

00:25:16.500 And then they go

00:25:17.600 into the actual crimes.

00:25:19.220 What they see is the crimes.

00:25:20.460 There's 18 counts.

00:25:21.920 Basically, 18 instances

00:25:23.380 where they allege

00:25:24.400 he broke the law.

00:25:25.400 In total,

00:25:26.220 this would be a sentence

00:25:26.900 of 175 years in prison.

00:25:29.380 Luckily,

00:25:29.680 we don't have to go through

00:25:30.720 all 18 counts

00:25:31.700 to understand them

00:25:32.540 because they fit pretty nicely

00:25:34.020 into three main buckets.

00:25:36.200 Hacking,

00:25:37.280 aiding,

00:25:38.020 and publishing.

00:25:38.920 First, let's go into hacking.

00:25:40.320 The first bucket.

00:25:41.260 It's about

00:25:41.940 assisting the hacking.

00:25:43.700 This first allegation

00:25:44.660 is the least scary

00:25:45.900 for Julian Assange.

00:25:47.180 It basically says

00:25:48.020 that Assange

00:25:49.080 worked with Manning

00:25:50.440 to crack a password

00:25:52.100 on a government computer

00:25:53.300 so that Manning

00:25:54.660 could grab documents

00:25:56.200 without being detected.

00:25:57.840 Incidentally,

00:25:58.420 it didn't work.

00:25:59.280 They didn't crack

00:25:59.980 the password.

00:26:01.120 But the indictment

00:26:02.880 alleges that he tried

00:26:04.320 and therefore,

00:26:05.600 it is considered

00:26:06.220 a conspiracy

00:26:06.940 to commit computer fraud,

00:26:09.080 which is a violation

00:26:09.900 of this like

00:26:10.660 80s era law

00:26:12.560 called the Computer Fraud

00:26:13.680 Abuse Act.

00:26:14.700 It has a max sentence

00:26:15.640 of five years.

00:26:16.460 So they just made up 1.00

00:26:17.300 a bunch of bullshit 1.00

00:26:17.960 to give him 1.00

00:26:18.720 the longest sentence

00:26:19.580 of all time 0.90

00:26:20.220 just and torture him.

00:26:22.300 But if you think about it,

00:26:24.080 he was doing 1.00

00:26:24.520 the most American shit ever 1.00

00:26:25.720 even as a non-American. 1.00

00:26:27.380 Exposing the government,

00:26:28.360 exercising freedom of speech

00:26:29.980 and giving the power

00:26:31.320 back to the people.

00:26:32.720 Years,

00:26:33.060 which for Julian Assange

00:26:34.060 is not that big of a deal

00:26:35.260 given that he spent

00:26:36.520 seven years

00:26:37.420 in the Ecuadorian embassy

00:26:38.640 evading the charges.

00:26:40.460 Okay,

00:26:40.680 so that's the first one,

00:26:41.960 the least severe.

00:26:42.980 The other 17 counts

00:26:44.320 allege that Julian Assange

00:26:46.020 violated the Espionage Act.

00:26:49.020 He has to answer

00:26:50.880 for what he has done.

00:26:52.720 Wait, what?

00:26:53.820 The Espionage Act?

00:26:54.940 Hold on.

00:26:55.320 You know I printed it off

00:26:57.860 and read through

00:26:59.200 the Espionage Act.

00:27:00.540 I mean, look at that cool font.

00:27:03.920 The Espionage Act

00:27:05.440 is really intense.

00:27:07.440 It was passed in 1917

00:27:09.440 when we were fighting

00:27:10.960 World War I.

00:27:12.320 I'm going to read some of it here.

00:27:13.240 This law was meant

00:27:29.920 to punish people

00:27:31.440 who were government employees

00:27:33.220 or members of the military

00:27:35.220 who had government secrets

00:27:36.680 and went and gave them

00:27:38.520 to another nation

00:27:39.460 that then hurt the United States.

00:27:41.260 It's basically spies, espionage.

00:27:42.860 That's what it's about, espionage.

00:27:44.480 Chelsea Manning violated this

00:27:46.280 because she was a member

00:27:49.120 of the military.

00:27:50.180 She had a security clearance.

00:27:51.980 She violated that security clearance

00:27:53.500 by using her privileged information

00:27:55.840 and therefore broke this law.

00:27:58.060 But Julian Assange

00:27:58.880 is not that.

00:28:00.760 He has never worked

00:28:01.780 for the US government.

00:28:02.640 He's never had a security clearance.

00:28:04.140 He's an Australian

00:28:04.900 hacker and activist.

00:28:06.980 It is very, very rare

00:28:08.420 that the Espionage Act

00:28:09.760 is used against somebody

00:28:11.180 who is not a government employee,

00:28:13.180 who does not have

00:28:13.600 a security clearance.

00:28:14.640 So what is going on here?

00:28:16.200 How is the US trying

00:28:17.300 to use the Espionage Act

00:28:19.120 against an Australian

00:28:20.960 who didn't leak any information?

00:28:23.680 He published information

00:28:25.080 that was leaked to him.

00:28:26.160 So bucket two,

00:28:34.320 I'm calling aiding or pelping. 0.98

00:28:36.440 The US case here

00:28:37.640 uses the Espionage Act

00:28:39.220 to say that indeed

00:28:40.480 it was Chelsea Manning

00:28:41.860 who broke the law directly.

00:28:43.740 As an army intel analyst,

00:28:45.200 it was her who had access

00:28:46.660 to the secrets.

00:28:47.560 She leaked to them.

00:28:48.440 But in US federal law,

00:28:49.900 we have this thing

00:28:50.740 that says that

00:28:51.600 if you aid someone

00:28:52.940 in committing a crime,

00:28:54.140 you are punishable

00:28:55.680 kind of as if

00:28:56.840 you've broken the law yourself.

00:28:58.520 Yep, got it right here.

00:29:00.260 Title 18, folks.

00:29:01.840 Crimes and criminal procedure.

00:29:05.300 Whoever commits an offense

00:29:06.340 against the United States

00:29:07.420 or aids, abets,

00:29:08.780 counsels, commands,

00:29:09.900 induces, or procures

00:29:11.080 its commission

00:29:11.800 is punishable as a principle.

00:29:14.300 If you helped out,

00:29:15.300 you did it too.

00:29:16.020 So they use this law to say,

00:29:18.200 yeah, Julian,

00:29:19.680 you didn't do the hacking

00:29:20.860 and leaking, 0.95

00:29:21.560 but like you helped.

00:29:22.820 You aided, abetted,

00:29:24.280 counsel-induced,

00:29:25.100 or procured,

00:29:25.700 and willingly caused

00:29:26.740 Manning to do this

00:29:28.680 because you promised

00:29:29.780 that you were going

00:29:30.780 to publish all this stuff.

00:29:32.220 So that was sort of like

00:29:33.080 incentivizing Chelsea Manning

00:29:34.680 to do this.

00:29:35.500 And that is why

00:29:36.340 you are being punished

00:29:37.480 under the Espionage Act.

00:29:38.960 Wait, this is a giant deal.

00:29:41.500 This is a big deal.

00:29:42.340 This logical chain

00:29:43.880 that was just created.

00:29:45.480 Assange is being charged

00:29:46.960 with aiding Manning,

00:29:49.080 a convicted spy,

00:29:50.160 because he published

00:29:52.880 the things

00:29:53.540 that the spy gave to him.

00:29:55.180 Okay?

00:29:56.340 File that away for a second.

00:29:57.600 Let's get on

00:29:58.040 to the third bucket in here. 0.92

00:29:59.620 The third bucket

00:30:00.240 I'm calling publishing.

00:30:02.080 Counts 15 through 17.

00:30:04.300 And let's just read directly

00:30:05.320 straight here

00:30:05.820 from the indictment.

00:30:06.760 The government says

00:30:07.400 that Assange,

00:30:08.660 having unauthorized possession

00:30:10.020 of all of these reports

00:30:12.380 from Afghanistan and Iraq

00:30:13.660 and the State Department,

00:30:14.700 et cetera,

00:30:15.040 which, again,

00:30:15.780 he had sort of induced

00:30:16.760 Manning to give to him.

00:30:18.660 They then specifically

00:30:19.660 alleged that the crime here

00:30:21.320 is that having

00:30:23.200 all of these documents,

00:30:24.180 he then communicated

00:30:25.340 those documents

00:30:26.340 to the world

00:30:27.740 by publishing them

00:30:29.260 on the internet.

00:30:30.440 Whoa.

00:30:31.460 The crime

00:30:32.400 is publishing.

00:30:34.520 That's the crime.

00:30:35.820 Counts 15 through 17

00:30:37.120 are that he published

00:30:38.680 something.

00:30:40.020 This is posting stuff

00:30:41.040 on the internet.

00:30:45.040 It's just crazy, bro.

00:30:46.920 W, Julian.

00:30:48.980 Great take.

00:30:52.200 You like that one?

00:30:53.360 That was good.

00:30:53.880 Turbin.

00:30:56.140 Okay.

00:30:57.020 We're done

00:30:57.740 with the legal talk here.

00:30:59.840 Let's talk about

00:31:01.160 what this means.

00:31:02.700 Back to our three buckets here.

00:31:04.820 The first one

00:31:05.660 is the least scary to me.

00:31:07.520 Did Assange

00:31:08.260 try to help Manning

00:31:09.340 hack a password

00:31:10.180 so that he can remain anonymous?

00:31:12.020 Maybe.

00:31:12.660 The facts aren't

00:31:13.560 super robust here,

00:31:14.780 but whatever.

00:31:15.760 If there is evidence

00:31:16.440 for that

00:31:16.740 and he gets convicted,

00:31:17.520 that's five years in prison.

00:31:18.840 Okay.

00:31:19.200 It's these other two buckets

00:31:20.900 that use the Espionage Act

00:31:22.980 that say that Assange

00:31:23.940 was aiding Manning

00:31:25.300 because he promised

00:31:26.180 to publish the documents.

00:31:27.660 And then he went further

00:31:28.380 and committed

00:31:28.780 three more crimes

00:31:29.600 by actually publishing them

00:31:31.260 to all the world

00:31:32.280 on the internet.

00:31:35.120 Let me explain

00:31:35.880 something about journalism

00:31:36.560 really quick.

00:31:38.520 New York Times article

00:31:39.720 about Iran,

00:31:41.020 doesn't matter,

00:31:41.500 whatever.

00:31:41.780 When you read

00:31:42.240 the international section

00:31:43.180 or the politics section

00:31:44.280 of any big newspaper,

00:31:45.680 you will see quotes

00:31:47.040 from officials

00:31:48.780 inside the government

00:31:49.560 or diplomats

00:31:50.820 or whatever

00:31:51.360 who request

00:31:52.240 to remain anonymous

00:31:53.700 quote,

00:31:54.780 because of the sensitivity

00:31:55.740 of the subject.

00:31:56.520 What this means

00:31:56.960 is some government official

00:31:57.800 talked to the reporter

00:31:59.040 at the New York Times

00:31:59.960 and said,

00:32:01.180 hey,

00:32:01.440 I kind of want to remain anonymous

00:32:02.720 because I'm not really

00:32:03.760 supposed to be talking

00:32:04.740 to you about this,

00:32:05.660 but I think the information

00:32:07.000 that I'm giving you

00:32:07.780 is for the public interest

00:32:09.360 and so I'm going to do it anyway.

00:32:11.160 Please don't reveal my name.

00:32:12.560 And the New York Times

00:32:13.200 is like,

00:32:13.600 okay, cool.

00:32:14.620 And they publish it.

00:32:15.360 That happens

00:32:15.840 every single day

00:32:17.400 all of the time.

00:32:18.320 That is one of the

00:32:19.200 most important aspects

00:32:20.720 of journalism

00:32:21.240 is that a journalist

00:32:22.060 can have a source

00:32:22.880 who feels protected

00:32:24.320 because they can remain anonymous

00:32:26.080 even if they talk

00:32:28.260 Basically,

00:32:29.400 freedom of speech is dead.

00:32:30.780 Just,

00:32:31.160 I can summarize

00:32:31.780 the last six minutes

00:32:32.660 of this video.

00:32:34.200 Four minutes.

00:32:35.040 About sensitive

00:32:35.920 or classified information.

00:32:37.300 Why?

00:32:37.920 Because in our society,

00:32:39.180 we value the flow

00:32:41.180 of important information.

00:32:42.620 And chat,

00:32:43.000 there's people donating right now.

00:32:44.080 This guy said,

00:32:44.680 this dude sent me $50

00:32:46.020 so I can get in touch with them.

00:32:47.060 I don't really care

00:32:47.720 what you have to say.

00:32:48.780 I have a tier on my Patreon

00:32:49.880 where you can like

00:32:50.580 pay for a one-on-one call,

00:32:51.700 but just because

00:32:52.520 you send me money

00:32:53.640 doesn't mean that

00:32:54.200 I'm entitled to talk to you.

00:32:55.400 for the public

00:32:56.020 even if the government

00:32:57.180 has deemed it

00:32:58.100 to be classified.

00:32:59.280 So,

00:32:59.580 according to the indictment

00:33:00.920 from the Department of Justice,

00:33:02.540 any New York Times article

00:33:03.820 that is quoting

00:33:04.840 a government official

00:33:06.320 who's talking

00:33:06.860 about classified information,

00:33:08.380 if the New York Times

00:33:09.140 publishes that,

00:33:10.800 espionage.

00:33:12.180 I mean,

00:33:12.400 that's what they're saying here.

00:33:13.940 In fact,

00:33:14.600 tons of the leaks

00:33:15.720 that WikiLeaks published

00:33:17.380 in 2010 and 2011

00:33:18.760 were also published

00:33:20.540 by Der Spiegel

00:33:22.180 or the New York Times

00:33:23.460 or the Guardian.

00:33:24.400 Oh, wait,

00:33:25.080 but Julian Assange

00:33:25.980 isn't a journalist.

00:33:27.300 He's not like

00:33:27.660 the New York Times reporter.

00:33:28.760 Those are like

00:33:29.160 technically legitimate journalists.

00:33:31.520 No.

00:33:32.700 Journalist is not

00:33:33.540 a legally defined status.

00:33:35.800 Journalists don't enjoy

00:33:36.520 some upgraded version

00:33:37.740 of free speech.

00:33:39.060 All journalism

00:33:39.700 takes place

00:33:40.640 within the free speech laws

00:33:42.220 that all of us enjoy.

00:33:44.520 Oh,

00:33:44.740 and I don't really-

00:33:45.240 No, we don't.

00:33:46.200 We don't all enjoy

00:33:47.260 freedom of speech laws.

00:33:48.200 I don't think you can say this,

00:33:49.280 but those laws,

00:33:50.220 those protections

00:33:50.840 are really,

00:33:51.880 really-

00:33:52.520 Barely from what they're

00:33:53.000 saying in the chat,

00:33:53.740 Chelsea Manning,

00:33:54.420 or what's your name?

00:33:54.960 Chelsea Manning?

00:33:55.480 Was on an L3L3 podcast.

00:33:56.720 Yeah, she got out

00:33:57.340 before Julian Assange did.

00:33:58.880 She's the one 1.00

00:33:59.200 who actually stole the shit. 1.00

00:34:00.220 Yeah, he got in trouble 1.00

00:34:01.360 for publishing it.

00:34:02.600 Maybe she turned trans 1.00

00:34:04.760 and sold to the government. 0.92

00:34:06.720 That's definitely-

00:34:07.200 I mean,

00:34:07.340 she was on L3L3.

00:34:08.360 You see what I'm saying?

00:34:09.660 Free speech is what

00:34:10.600 keeps our society transparent.

00:34:12.800 It keeps our government

00:34:13.620 accountable.

00:34:14.520 It is important.

00:34:16.060 And it is rare.

00:34:16.940 It's a new thing.

00:34:17.700 Like,

00:34:17.980 being able to hold

00:34:18.820 governments accountable

00:34:19.560 is like,

00:34:20.500 kind of a brand new thing. 0.99

00:34:21.840 What the fuck? 0.99

00:34:29.960 Yo, chat. 1.00

00:34:31.000 I had a great night.

00:34:33.040 I don't know

00:34:33.700 what he's been talking about.

00:34:34.500 I just got here.

00:34:35.360 Like, 10 seconds.

00:34:36.200 This is all hypothetical

00:34:37.060 in Minecraft.

00:34:38.440 Yo.

00:34:39.260 I love the CIA.

00:34:40.940 There's nothing greater

00:34:41.840 than the CIA.

00:34:43.360 Yeah,

00:34:43.760 you want to find us?

00:34:44.560 Pull up to us.

00:34:45.020 We in Utah right now.

00:34:46.000 Come slide. 0.89

00:34:47.360 Utah, yeah.

00:34:48.020 We in Utah.

00:34:48.660 Come find us, CIA.

00:34:50.420 Yeah. 1.00

00:34:50.900 Pussies. 1.00

00:34:51.940 Wrong. 1.00

00:34:54.900 In human civilization,

00:34:57.040 it's not natural.

00:34:58.280 It's not guaranteed.

00:34:59.500 It can easily go away.

00:35:00.740 So that is why

00:35:01.560 I'm concerned

00:35:02.220 about this case.

00:35:04.260 Yeah, go ahead.

00:35:05.140 Charge Julian Assange

00:35:06.180 with the conspiracy

00:35:07.540 to hack into

00:35:08.260 a government computer.

00:35:09.380 But as soon as you introduce

00:35:10.380 the Espionage Act

00:35:11.600 into what he did,

00:35:12.580 you start to play with fire.

00:35:14.680 You're setting a precedent

00:35:15.920 that could easily be applied

00:35:17.380 to the journalism

00:35:18.560 that we rely on every day

00:35:19.980 to keep us informed

00:35:20.900 and to keep governments

00:35:22.300 and businesses accountable.

00:35:23.920 Oh,

00:35:24.240 and I'm not the only one

00:35:25.220 who's concerned by this.

00:35:26.740 The Obama administration

00:35:27.780 also worried

00:35:28.840 that pursuing Assange

00:35:30.180 would be dangerous

00:35:31.640 for free speech

00:35:32.700 and journalism.

00:35:33.800 So they didn't do it.

00:35:35.220 It was the Trump administration

00:35:36.220 that really doubled down

00:35:37.680 and tried to get Assange

00:35:39.340 and charge him. 0.94

00:35:40.460 What the hell? 0.99

00:35:41.180 Trump? 1.00

00:35:41.700 Trump!

00:35:42.520 Wrong.

00:35:43.100 How are you going to use

00:35:44.220 I love WikiLeaks?

00:35:46.320 WikiLeaks is the greatest.

00:35:48.540 And then be the one

00:35:49.380 who indicts him?

00:35:50.620 Ronald Lump.

00:35:51.840 Ronald Lump.

00:35:54.440 And, I mean,

00:35:55.860 are we surprised?

00:35:57.360 So the Biden administration

00:35:58.380 is sort of at a crossroads.

00:35:59.780 Like, what are they going to do?

00:36:00.700 Are they going to push this?

00:36:02.180 Are they going to try to charge

00:36:03.460 Julian Assange with espionage?

00:36:05.340 Well, it turns out

00:36:05.840 they are moving ahead

00:36:06.720 trying to get him extradited

00:36:08.300 to the U.S.

00:36:09.660 Okay, wait, wait, wait.

00:36:11.120 There's been news.

00:36:12.760 We were making this video.

00:36:13.940 We were editing it

00:36:14.680 just because we're interested

00:36:15.640 in Julian Assange.

00:36:16.700 And then news broke that...

00:36:19.180 The UK judge will rule tonight

00:36:20.480 on whether WikiLeaks found

00:36:21.620 that Julian Assange

00:36:22.500 should be extradited

00:36:23.660 to the United States.

00:36:24.960 Where a judge basically said

00:36:26.660 that it's totally legal

00:36:28.080 that Assange be sent

00:36:29.140 to the U.S. to face trial.

00:36:30.580 Where a judge approved

00:36:31.460 the extradition earlier today.

00:36:33.600 Meaning he's one step closer

00:36:34.680 to being extradited.

00:36:35.900 Now, he will...

00:36:36.780 Imagine being hated

00:36:37.560 internationally by governments.

00:36:39.900 Probably appeal this.

00:36:41.080 It'll probably go to

00:36:41.660 the high court in the UK.

00:36:43.700 But, like, he's one step closer.

00:36:45.360 How long could this drag out?

00:36:47.500 Sometime.

00:36:48.420 Maybe not so much time.

00:36:50.360 My whole purpose

00:36:50.980 in making this video

00:36:51.700 was not to defend

00:36:52.880 Julian Assange as a person.

00:36:54.760 Ah, backtracking.

00:36:56.040 Come on, bro.

00:36:57.100 Free Julian Assange, man.

00:36:58.560 I'm defending him.

00:36:59.740 In Minecraft.

00:37:00.260 Or even WikiLeaks

00:37:01.520 as an organization.

00:37:02.700 That's not the point.

00:37:03.520 You can make up your mind on that.

00:37:05.040 The thing that I hope

00:37:06.160 I've persuaded you, though,

00:37:07.860 is that Julian Assange's

00:37:09.440 legal case

00:37:10.280 has ramifications

00:37:11.400 for all of us.

00:37:12.480 If he's sent to the U.S.

00:37:13.560 and he's convicted

00:37:14.320 under the Espionage Act,

00:37:15.900 that will have major ramifications

00:37:17.760 on the future of journalism.

00:37:20.160 I hope that is clear now.

00:37:21.420 So, over the coming weeks

00:37:23.100 and months,

00:37:24.240 this case will play out

00:37:25.620 and you know

00:37:27.220 that I will be paying attention to it.

00:37:29.000 And my hope is

00:37:29.820 that you will be too.

00:37:31.640 All right, that's it.

00:37:34.520 That's all I've got for today.

00:37:37.060 Good video.

00:37:38.360 Chat a minute ago.

00:37:39.600 WStream, I'll see you tomorrow.

00:37:46.060 That's it.

00:37:46.480 Is this your job?

00:37:47.640 Thank you.

00:37:48.060 Thank you.
