SNEAKO - The Truman Show Tried To Warn You.

00:00:00.000 Yeah, The Truman Show tried to warn you.

00:00:01.640 The Truman Show is one of my favourite movies.

00:00:03.500 Shout out to Moon.

00:00:04.820 It's incredibly rare for a film to be as funny, cohesive, beautifully paced, and rich in detail as The Truman Show.

00:00:10.060 However, it's even rarer for a movie to go beyond this and give accurate, prophetic insights about the world.

00:00:15.680 20 years later, and The Truman Show's allegorical message is more relevant than ever.

00:00:19.820 But the only way we can truly understand its meaning is by diving into the story.

00:00:23.420 Chad, have you seen this movie?

00:00:24.440 The film begins with a monologue from Christoph, who sets up the main premise of the movie.

00:00:28.280 Truman is the unwitting star of a reality TV show centered around his life.

00:00:38.160 Truman, a child abandoned at birth, has been brought up to believe that he is a normal guy living in the idyllic town of Seahaven Island.

00:00:50.680 However, Truman's entire world is a lie.

00:00:52.940 All the people he knows, including his mother,

00:00:54.620 His best friend and his wife are all paid actors.

00:00:58.900 Seahaven Island is also fake, and is in reality just a huge setting closed by a massive dome.

00:01:03.800 This gives Christoph, the director of The Truman Show, almost complete control over Truman's world.

00:01:08.320 This ranges from the ability to control the weather, to the day-night cycle, and even the stars in the sky.

00:01:12.960 Truman's every moment is broadcast around the world, with extra funding from the show coming from product placement.

00:01:17.880 From the start of the film, we see a camera implanted in Truman's bathroom mirror, where Truman is pretending to be an explorer whilst getting ready for work.

00:01:25.000 It's as though this is just another regular day for Truman, but...

00:01:27.800 Oh, it's like they spy on us constantly.

00:01:29.800 What does that remind you of?

00:01:31.620 Except this was before phones.

00:01:33.160 ...them saying hello to his neighbours, making a coffee, and getting into his car.

00:01:36.340 But just as he's getting into his car, a stage light drops from the sky, right onto the road outside of his house.

00:01:41.560 Truman then walks over to inspect the light, and sees that it says Sirius on it, referring to the brightest star in the night sky.

00:01:47.420 But eerily, on his drive to work, the radio starts to run a story about a plane wreckage falling from the sky in order to explain the light.

00:01:54.200 Here's a newsflash just then. An aircraft in trouble began shitting parts as it flew over at Sea Haven just a few moments ago.

00:02:00.740 It then starts to talk about the dangers of flying, which is one of the first of many subtle ways that Christoph tries to influence Truman into staying on the island through fear.

00:02:08.780 Fear! Control through fear! Huh?

00:02:11.560 The media controlling you to stay inside with fear? Hmm.

00:02:16.000 Try to think of another time where the government and the media tried to convince me to stay inside and not see the truth by using fear through lying through the media.

00:02:25.660 What was another time I quarantined in social distance because my TV and the government told me to?

00:02:31.440 I don't think that's ever happened. This is just a movie. This is just a movie.

00:02:34.040 He is being subconsciously controlled by the radio.

00:02:36.460 This subconscious manipulation then continues throughout the film.

00:02:39.160 Like when Truman is asked by his boss to deal with something that will require a boat trip.

00:02:43.140 By doing this, the boss is setting up Truman's aquaphobia as we see he is unable to even get in the boat.

00:02:48.160 A phobia that's later revealed to be another subconscious manipulation of Truman.

00:02:52.100 Who gave him that phobia to not leave and to just stay within his little confines of life while the richer people get to do whatever they want and control us with fear?

00:03:00.240 What does that sound like?

00:03:01.100 This whole day feels very strange for Truman, so he hurriedly comes back to his wife Meryl, who then conspicuously shows off her new kitchen tool that she bought at the store, showing it off almost like she's advertising it.

00:03:10.880 It's a dicer, grater, peeler, all in one. Never need sharpening, dishwasher safe.

00:03:15.520 Truman becomes suspicious and when out with his best friend Marlon, Truman's behavior starts to be off and he brings up his desire to leave and go to Fiji.

00:03:22.820 Marlon catches that Truman is starting to wake up, so he quickly shoots down the idea.

00:03:29.380 He doesn't want Truman escaping. That would break the whole game.

00:03:32.140 In the next scene, we see Truman go off to spend some time on the beach, where he remembers the tragic boat accident that seemingly killed his father and gave him his aquaphobia.

00:03:39.220 Oh, I can't think of another time where the government lied about the ways people die so that you stay scared of something.

00:03:47.720 When's another time that the government was lying and the hospitals were lying about the deaths to make people scared? What does that remind me of?

00:03:56.660 Christoph then even heightens Truman's misery by adding a specific path of reign to follow Truman.

00:04:01.520 And with Truman's breakdown growing, we see the audience's engrossed reactions.

00:04:05.220 It's all these early scenes that start to illustrate that the fictional Truman show can only function when Truman buys into this false reality.

00:04:11.800 The Truman show, therefore, has to make sure that Truman can't escape his cage or even see that he's in a cage.

00:04:17.500 Hmm. Maybe part of the reason that people never escape the cage is because they don't even realize that they're in one to begin with.

00:04:24.940 They believe the reality that's presented in front of them instead of ever questioning it.

00:04:28.700 So they just believe what they see on their phone.

00:04:31.040 They believe what they see on TV.

00:04:32.200 They believe what they're told and just accept it.

00:04:34.560 And they will never realize that they're in a cage and that there's a select few people who are outside telling us what to do.

00:04:41.520 If he knows that he's in a cage, the whole game collapses.

00:04:44.680 The ways that Christoph keeps Truman deluded are the most striking aspects of the allegory.

00:04:48.560 The most obvious and egregious of these is how Truman is kept complacent by exploiting his deepest fears.

00:04:54.220 For example, Truman's aquaphobia works perfectly to keep Truman on the island.

00:04:58.220 Christoph even risks Truman overcoming this fear when he sends Truman to unsuccessfully board the boat.

00:05:02.820 The fact that Truman can't overcome his phobia only reinforces this.

00:05:06.640 Truman is also constantly barraged by propaganda and subliminal messages to induce a fear of flying.

00:05:12.340 Misinformation. This is hate content.

00:05:14.740 This is hateful, hateful, bad, bad misinformation.

00:05:18.240 There are constant reminders of the dangers of flying.

00:05:20.540 You know what's funny, Chad?

00:05:21.280 I just had my tweet removed.

00:05:24.380 I thought Twitter was a place for free speech.

00:05:26.440 And I'm suspended on Twitter right now because I posted a meme about monkeypox.

00:05:30.580 And the caption was, delete this.

00:05:33.200 And if that was like a he-him or like a bi person or someone with a BLM thing, it would not be called hate speech. 0.51

00:05:39.500 It would be taken seriously.

00:05:40.960 Delete this.

00:05:41.500 And it was a meme making fun of where the monkeypox came from.

00:05:44.440 It takes this rampant fear-mongering to keep Truman's delusion alive.

00:06:03.240 However, this time the propaganda starts to weaken.

00:06:05.520 Truman still fantasizes about taking a flight to Fiji.

00:06:08.280 His aquaphobia is still strong, but it's revealed that this is most likely because it originates from the undressed guilt over Truman's father's death.

00:06:14.780 But it's not just the fear that influences Truman.

00:06:16.720 The control that Christoph has over his world is total.

00:06:19.220 Everything Truman takes in on a daily basis is designed with a secret purpose.

00:06:23.000 Oh, it's almost like the government, the banks, the big pharmaceutical industry, all of them help each other out.

00:06:29.640 It's almost like all the people who control all the money just do sly deals and scam all the bots while we trust them blindly.

00:06:39.520 Now, this is just a movie, though.

00:06:40.820 This is just sort of a crazy movie.

00:06:42.080 Watchers reinforces the message.

00:06:43.800 The media always has headlines directly promoting whatever they want Truman to believe.

00:06:47.560 Even the people that Truman talks to on a daily basis spout the same canned lines and positive affirmation.

00:06:52.960 Stop the spread. 1.00

00:06:54.120 Put this on. 0.91

00:06:55.980 Trump is bad. 0.99

00:06:57.540 Bots. 0.99

00:06:58.020 You all sound exactly the same.

00:07:00.560 Propaganda is seeping into every aspect of Truman's life and society.

00:07:04.280 You think I'm flying somewhere?

00:07:05.440 Nope.

00:07:05.980 Oh, good.

00:07:06.940 A lot like its infiltration of our society.

00:07:09.320 Just like Truman, we're always bombarded with propaganda just to keep us complacently unaware of the delusions of modern ide-

00:07:15.260 Stop the spread. 1.00

00:07:16.280 ...ideology.

00:07:17.100 Every day, society tells us who we are, what we ought to do, and who our enemies are.

00:07:21.360 Cut your family off if they don't take this.

00:07:23.540 This is the right opinion. 0.99

00:07:24.540 Okay, this is the right opinion.

00:07:26.300 Black lives matter.

00:07:27.000 Just like Truman, we're encouraged to ignore the clues that we're living in a lie.

00:07:30.340 Where we're made to still become wages in the matrix.

00:07:33.680 Wagey! 0.99

00:07:34.240 Brokey! 1.00

00:07:35.520 You're a wagey! 0.97

00:07:37.680 You're a brokey! 1.00

00:07:38.900 I've got eight supercars, ten mansions! 0.90

00:07:40.980 You're in the matrix!

00:07:41.680 And then everyone who buys into the societal delusion helps perpetuate it.

00:07:45.680 This means that lots of well-meaning rational people are swept up to become mouthpieces of a failing system.

00:07:51.060 The cracks are present in both reality and fiction.

00:07:53.580 They just exist solely on the personal level for Truman, rather than the societal level that we're starting to see.

00:07:58.360 But what is the society-wide delusion?

00:07:59.960 Well, in the Truman Show, it's obvious and literal.

00:08:02.120 It's the premise of the movie.

00:08:03.320 The Truman Show is a reality show.

00:08:04.900 But how does this translate into our real world?

00:08:07.100 Well, this is where it gets interesting.

00:08:08.620 The Habitus is a tool used by sociologists for describing the ways in which a society's culture functions.

00:08:13.820 Society rests upon an enormous amount of unsaid rules and expectations.

00:08:17.940 These are often performed without thinking about them.

00:08:19.800 It's more like a learned skill than a conscious decision.

00:08:21.980 Well, you're supposed to do that.

00:08:23.880 And if you don't act like that, then you're just immature.

00:08:27.640 I remember when I was your age and I didn't trust the government and I didn't vote.

00:08:32.320 And I thought the banks were scamming me.

00:08:34.020 I remember that. 0.98

00:08:35.000 But then I cut my balls off and I just sat still and I got a job and now I'm mature. 1.00

00:08:40.540 But you sound crazy. 1.00

00:08:42.100 Maybe you need meds. 0.99

00:08:43.500 Take your meds. 0.98

00:08:44.080 Why are you so unhinged?

00:08:46.500 Bordeaux, the French intellectual who brought the term to prominence, often compared it to sports.

00:08:50.360 People tend to know the rules of the game.

00:08:52.240 For example, it's generally accepted that when you're finished at the supermarket, you return your shopping cart.

00:08:56.840 There's no personal reward or egotistic incentive.

00:08:59.220 It's just a learned, polite expectation.

00:09:01.240 Well, I took it because it's just the right thing to do.

00:09:04.280 Well, I don't want to get sick.

00:09:06.160 So I took three because that's just what you're supposed to do.

00:09:11.180 In the context of the supermarket, though, it's very important.

00:09:14.240 The whole system would collapse without it.

00:09:16.040 Some abstracts of the habitus are nearly invisible because they seem so natural to us.

00:09:20.680 Even your taste in music or food are influenced by the habitus.

00:09:23.800 This is because the cultural expectations that the habitus instills go so deep.

00:09:27.980 They're established from the moment you're born, reinforced throughout your childhood by your family and then further built upon by your education and work.

00:09:34.620 This then makes the habitus a self-perpetuating structure.

00:09:37.740 Those brought up in certain habitus will nurture its specific values in their children, for example, making sure the cycle continues.

00:09:43.720 The Truman Show gives a literal picture of what a habitus can look like.

00:09:47.380 We can see all the actors in the fictional Truman Show is being sucked into this.

00:09:50.960 But!

00:09:51.680 The actors act in certain learned ways in order to perpetuate the essence of the Truman Show.

00:09:56.060 A lot of you are just echoing what the elites want you to think blindly, like slaves, and you have no idea.

00:10:03.820 If you're saying the right opinion, think about why it's right.

00:10:07.640 Why do you so strongly hold on to these beliefs that you didn't even develop on your own?

00:10:12.460 You were just told to think that.

00:10:14.780 Is it really the right opinion? 0.99

00:10:16.240 Or are you just a fucking echo chamber for the people who will fly out to islands and touch kids? 0.98

00:10:22.620 Now, the key difference between fiction and reality is the incentive. 0.99

00:10:26.600 Literally, the actors in the fictional Truman Show are being paid to play their part.

00:10:30.180 But in the real world, people play their parts in the habitus because...

00:10:33.400 Blindly.

00:10:34.600 ...because the habitus itself has conditioned them into it.

00:10:37.440 Everyone is one of the actors.

00:10:39.100 Everyone makes the delusion real.

00:10:40.440 And what the Truman Show goes on to tell us is that when the habitus has been altered into something too detached from an authentic society,

00:10:46.980 cracks start to show, when lies start to perpetuate, when the ego gets in the way, when power corrupts, the habitus starts to break.

00:10:53.780 And this ripples throughout entire civilizations.

00:10:56.420 See, throughout the movie's progression, we see Truman gradually wake up to the delusion that has... 0.98

00:11:00.740 Oh, you must be crazy.

00:11:01.920 What do you mean you're noticing things that don't make sense and you're noticing that you're just being controlled? 1.00

00:11:05.480 You're crazy. 1.00

00:11:06.420 You're unhinged. 1.00

00:11:07.260 You used to be so much better. 0.99

00:11:08.620 There's something wrong with you. 1.00

00:11:09.760 You're crazy. 1.00

00:11:10.720 Take your meds. 1.00

00:11:11.600 No, like, why?

00:11:12.320 What's wrong with you?

00:11:13.360 You've gone off the deep end. 1.00

00:11:14.740 You're like an incel, misogynist, toxic, crazy person now. 0.99

00:11:18.160 So what happens when you start noticing? 1.00

00:11:19.520 The bots are like...

00:11:20.980 Just malfunctioning.

00:11:23.720 ...consumed his life, which inevitably causes a breakdown of the entire habitus.

00:11:27.900 The further Truman moves towards truth, the faster the delusion collapses, and thus, the more resistance he faces.

00:11:33.740 The habitus of our world is just as deluded as the one in the Truman Show.

00:11:37.520 This is because what's valuable culturally has been drastically changed by reality TV and social media.

00:11:42.420 The Truman Show almost predicted this with its commentary on reality TV.

00:11:46.080 The vapid values of reality TV expanded to shape the entire habitus.

00:11:50.400 Now, I want a Birkin bag.

00:11:52.180 I'm getting lip fillers.

00:11:53.640 Limited to reality TV, and this doesn't seem too harmful.

00:11:56.620 But it gets so much worse when you consider this in our own reality.

00:11:59.600 How many people do you see just take a picture of their food before they eat it? 0.99

00:12:03.720 Who the fuck cares? 1.00

00:12:05.460 Who are you living for? 1.00

00:12:06.480 Your food, you're living for other people to that level? 1.00

00:12:09.840 Who the fuck cares what the fuck you're eating? 1.00

00:12:13.180 Especially with the effects of social media on our values. 1.00

00:12:16.320 Nowadays, everyone's the star of their own reality TV show.

00:12:19.240 People project vapid and unattainable standards by advertising a fake life on social media.

00:12:24.020 That 14-year-old girls who use social media more than 5 hours a day saw a 50% spike in depression symptoms.

00:12:31.420 No, no, it's not social media.

00:12:34.380 I have a chemical imbalance in my brain.

00:12:36.660 Give me a pill.

00:12:37.480 Give me a pill right now.

00:12:38.660 I have a chemical imbalance.

00:12:39.600 Give me a pill.

00:12:40.320 Give me a pill.

00:12:40.940 Feeds into people's values.

00:12:42.300 They see other people's fake lives and hold their own up to the same standard.

00:12:45.400 These people then perpetuate the cycle, which then brings the habitus further and further away from authenticity and truth.

00:12:51.820 Corporatization of society is then also reflected in the habitus of both the Truman Show and in our own society.

00:12:57.120 In the Truman Show, the effects are obvious. 0.97

00:12:58.960 Truman's wife is constantly advertising and shitting brands. 0.99

00:13:01.660 It's almost a learned response that has been ingrained into her. 0.99

00:13:04.860 You really ought to throw out that mower.

00:13:07.380 Get one of those new elk rotaries.

00:13:08.700 Which is why at this point, Truman is actively interrogating her on the lie that they've been living.

00:13:13.540 In response, Truman's wife defaults to an almost robotic speech about a coffee brand.

00:13:17.340 This is the habitus failing.

00:13:18.580 Truman's wife is so deeply submerged in the Truman Show delusion that she has no other response. 0.74

00:13:23.640 She just keeps reading the same script.

00:13:25.300 But it's so much worse in our own society where our habitus is so heavily corporatized,

00:13:29.540 with corporate values being held in such a high regard that we value our careers more than our families.

00:13:34.740 Never before in history has this happened.

00:13:43.720 Truman's suspicions of reality are then brought up again,

00:13:46.140 when his father, who he assumes is dead, shows up on his way to work dressed as a beggar.

00:13:51.260 Truman's father is then quickly whisked away on a bus.

00:13:53.880 But not before Truman sees his face.

00:13:55.620 He realizes something is up.

00:13:57.100 So he goes to talk to his mother, who tries to explain away his father's reappearance,

00:14:00.500 by suggesting that he's just crazy and hallucinating. 1.00

00:14:02.500 You're just crazy! Take your pills! 1.00

00:14:06.020 You're gone off the deep end! You're just so unhinged! 0.98

00:14:08.580 What happened to you? You're crazy! 1.00

00:14:10.900 This time, it doesn't convince Truman, 0.99

00:14:12.800 who also notices how often his wife name-drops brands. 0.66

00:14:15.940 As Truman starts to go through his old things,

00:14:17.640 the movie flashes back to Truman's college years,

00:14:19.820 and a chance encounter he had with a woman named Lauren.

00:14:22.160 Lauren's meant to be a background character,

00:14:23.980 but the two sides meet across the room.

00:14:25.660 They share a conversation in a romantic moment on the beach.

00:14:28.280 Lauren then goes out of character,

00:14:29.620 to try to reveal to Truman that his whole reality is fake.

00:14:32.640 Listen to me.

00:14:33.680 Everybody knows that.

00:14:34.820 Everybody knows everything you do.

00:14:36.560 They're pretending, Truman.

00:14:37.940 Do you understand?

00:14:38.780 Everybody's-

00:14:39.380 That's me.

00:14:40.320 Every day on this stream.

00:14:41.740 They know everything about you!

00:14:43.260 They don't care about you! 1.00

00:14:44.600 It's all a lie!

00:14:45.620 Before they get you, listen to me!

00:14:47.440 Listen to me!

00:14:48.000 Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

00:14:49.560 It's all a lie! 1.00

00:14:50.520 You sound stupid! 1.00

00:14:51.740 Wake up before it's too late! 1.00

00:14:52.880 Trust me!

00:14:53.460 Another one's coming!

00:14:54.420 They're gonna lock you inside!

00:14:55.600 They're gonna tell you to take more shots! 1.00

00:14:57.000 The monkey shit! 1.00

00:14:58.140 I'm telling you! 1.00

00:14:59.020 You're all gonna fall for it!

00:15:00.260 But listen up now!

00:15:01.240 That's me!

00:15:01.820 Exactly the scene! 1.00

00:15:04.940 Fuck! 1.00

00:15:05.960 Lauren, who reveals her real name as Sylvia, 1.00

00:15:08.160 tries to explain that Truman's world is a lie.

00:15:10.180 But then again, she stops short by a man saying he is her father,

00:15:13.540 and that she's just talking nonsense.

00:15:15.360 As Truman- 1.00

00:15:15.900 You're just crazy, y'all! 1.00

00:15:17.140 Why are you so crazy? 1.00

00:15:18.680 Why just chill out? 1.00

00:15:21.080 Shh! 0.97

00:15:22.040 Relax! 0.97

00:15:23.080 Why are you so unhinged?

00:15:24.940 Just chill! 0.99

00:15:26.860 Why don't you take a Xanax and sit there?

00:15:29.820 Watch some Netflix!

00:15:31.480 Calm down!

00:15:33.580 And starts to think back to this.

00:15:35.400 It's revealed that he still longs to see Sylvia,

00:15:37.500 with him even recreating her face from fashion magazines,

00:15:40.280 because Sylvia is the only thing that's real in this fake world.

00:15:43.320 It's then later revealed that Truman is obsessed with Fiji,

00:15:45.800 as Sylvia is reported to be moving there.

00:15:47.780 Truman then starts to see more and more suspicious things.

00:15:50.200 His radio specifically describes his every move in an apparent malfunction.

00:15:54.000 Okay, he's making his turn on the Lancaster Square.

00:15:58.560 Truman's also seeing every part of the background set,

00:16:00.780 but he's always escorted away from it.

00:16:02.580 This sequence of events brings his suspicions to a breaking point,

00:16:05.420 as Truman concludes that it seems that his entire world revolves around him in some weird way.

00:16:10.200 Fearing that he's going crazy, he brings up these questions to Marlon, his best friend,

00:16:13.840 who then just tries to brush it all off.

00:16:15.740 Oh, chill!

00:16:17.300 Play some Fortnite!

00:16:18.180 And in response to his increased suspicion,

00:16:20.280 Truman's then further barraged by suggestions that everything is just fine,

00:16:23.460 that he's just being weird.

00:16:24.700 His mother then shows fake pictures of him at Mount Rushmore,

00:16:27.200 and even the TV runs a program about the benefits of a small-town life.

00:16:31.020 But by now, things don't work like they're used to.

00:16:33.100 He's seeing the society that he lives in starts to crack. 0.96

00:16:35.540 It's also laughable and ridiculous. 0.98

00:16:37.440 This whole thing is a facade. 0.96

00:16:39.000 And now that Truman is waking up to this reality,

00:16:41.120 the lullabies

00:16:41.680 of deception can't draw him back to sleep.

00:16:46.360 After noticing that his wife is crossing her fingers in his wedding pictures,

00:16:49.580 Truman follows her to work.

00:16:50.840 Despite multiple attempts by extras to delay and stop Truman from seeing the surgery that his wife is helping with,

00:16:55.940 Truman breaks into the hospital and sees the fake surgery being played out by actors

00:16:59.600 who have no idea what they're doing.

00:17:01.340 Determined to leave, Truman then visits a travel agency.

00:17:04.040 By this point, Truman's had enough.

00:17:05.520 He's determined to leave.

00:17:06.700 He wants to escape the sick society.

00:17:08.320 So he tries to book a flight to Fiji,

00:17:10.240 but the clerk says they're all sold out for at least a month.

00:17:12.580 So then Truman tries to get a bus out,

00:17:14.180 but it conveniently breaks down just before leaving.

00:17:16.360 Truman then, sitting in a car at home,

00:17:18.180 waits for his wife to come back from work.

00:17:20.040 When she does,

00:17:20.900 she gets in the car with him

00:17:22.040 as he points out the clockwork regularity of the people who go past their road.

00:17:26.940 Unsatisfied with her unrealistic reaction to this,

00:17:29.120 Truman then locks the car and takes Meryl on an impromptu road trip. 0.88

00:17:32.280 To everyone around him,

00:17:33.080 he seems like he's having a breakdown.

00:17:34.420 He's breaking the rotten habit of-

00:17:35.820 You're, whoa, why are you so used to be more calm?

00:17:39.740 But now I'm-

00:17:40.540 Surrounding him.

00:17:41.240 But then instantly, traffic jam starts,

00:17:43.180 stopping Truman in his tracks.

00:17:44.780 Truman then pretends to go back home,

00:17:46.220 which disperses the traffic completely,

00:17:47.720 but then turns right around

00:17:48.840 and makes his way out of the suburbs and onto the road.

00:17:51.320 Once they reach the bridge,

00:17:52.300 which stands between Truman and the mainland,

00:17:53.960 it seems that his conditioned aquaphobia will stop his escape plan.

00:17:57.040 All the conditioning and propaganda is the only barrier to his freedom.

00:18:00.180 However, Truman overcomes his fears

00:18:01.860 by closing his eyes and forcing Meryl to steer the car while he holds down the accelerator.

00:18:06.060 Once they're over the bridge,

00:18:07.220 other obstacles are set up by Kristoff to try and stop Truman from leaving.

00:18:10.440 Truman even drives through a wildfire,

00:18:12.340 but is stopped by a roadblock due to a convenient leak at the nearby power plant.

00:18:16.260 In desperation, Truman tries to get through on foot,

00:18:18.660 but is tackled and subdued by men in hazmat suits.

00:18:20.960 To take him back home.

00:18:31.160 The implausibility of all these events

00:18:32.940 cement Truman's skepticism of the world around him.

00:18:35.440 Which brings up the question,

00:18:36.620 how many so-called emergency events in our own world

00:18:39.100 could be equally implausible?

00:18:40.700 I don't know!

00:18:42.840 How many emergency events in our own world

00:18:45.920 could be equally implausible?

00:18:48.300 I wonder,

00:18:49.280 how many emergency,

00:18:50.580 like you could say like an emergency event,

00:18:52.420 like a panned,

00:18:53.580 what's the word,

00:18:54.180 pan?

00:18:55.100 I don't remember the word

00:18:56.280 because I don't want to say it

00:18:57.140 because they're going to take it down

00:18:57.960 and put misinformation,

00:18:58.920 but it's like,

00:18:59.400 the word,

00:19:00.380 an emergency event that's implausible,

00:19:02.920 kind of like a p-p-pan something,

00:19:04.740 something like that,

00:19:06.440 kind of,

00:19:07.120 that scares everybody to stay inside,

00:19:09.360 to keep everybody controlled,

00:19:12.320 using fear,

00:19:13.920 and that you can never get out of

00:19:16.040 and that they're just,

00:19:17.100 they're doing again.

00:19:17.900 It's something that they've planned out

00:19:19.120 and something that the elite people

00:19:20.940 have no involvement in whatsoever.

00:19:23.240 I can't remember the word.

00:19:24.700 I can't remember the word.

00:19:25.740 All the lies told by our media,

00:19:27.480 all the false narratives pushed onto us,

00:19:29.480 all the divisions showed by algorithms in the news,

00:19:32.060 all these layers of fallacy

00:19:33.420 that have been embedded into-

00:19:34.880 Shout out to Moon.

00:19:35.860 Big shout out to this channel.

00:19:36.760 Every aspect of society.

00:19:39.640 We all have the means

00:19:40.500 to stop this nonsensical fictional reality

00:19:42.580 that we abide by.

00:19:43.600 And yet,

00:19:44.040 we choose not to confront it.

00:19:45.560 When anyone does,

00:19:46.640 they are-

00:19:47.040 They get banished.

00:19:49.720 The bots hate them.

00:19:51.120 The government hates them.

00:19:52.660 The platforms hate them.

00:19:54.260 Bro,

00:19:54.880 I got suspended on Twitter.

00:19:56.580 I'm demonetized on YouTube.

00:19:58.500 I got, uh,

00:19:59.800 hidden on Instagram.

00:20:00.900 I'm shadow banned on Instagram.

00:20:02.060 I have a strike for misinformation on my YouTube channel.

00:20:06.700 Censored.

00:20:07.220 Completely on social media.

00:20:08.840 I can't even be on-

00:20:09.840 I don't use TikTok because I know what's gonna happen.

00:20:12.160 Everybody who posts my videos on TikTok,

00:20:13.860 shout out to you.

00:20:14.600 But you know what's going on.

00:20:15.960 Everybody who's posted a stream clip on my TikTok

00:20:17.860 has been removed for bullying,

00:20:19.720 for harassment,

00:20:20.520 and for hate content.

00:20:21.480 Every single one.

00:20:22.480 You know what's up.

00:20:23.920 The government too.

00:20:24.800 Like,

00:20:24.980 I started talking about how 11.9 was a lie.

00:20:28.360 Stream terminated.

00:20:29.280 The bots are wishing death. 0.57

00:20:33.380 The bots want me to die. 0.58

00:20:35.900 I showed it yesterday.

00:20:37.080 I pretended to get jumped with makeup,

00:20:39.300 and they all started celebrating.

00:20:40.520 Woo! 0.99

00:20:42.000 Deserved! 0.96

00:20:43.120 Wish it was a bullet.

00:20:45.760 It's not easy to talk about this stuff.

00:20:47.620 But,

00:20:47.960 someone's gotta do it,

00:20:49.040 and it's more fun than anything else. 0.98

00:20:50.340 I don't give a fuck. 0.99

00:20:51.240 I know what it's up. 0.99

00:20:52.400 This is what happens to whistleblowers, bro. 1.00

00:20:54.000 This is a fucking hero. 0.99

00:20:55.320 Edward Snowden, 1.00

00:20:56.340 John McAfee,

00:20:57.620 who's the WikiLeaks guy?

00:20:59.720 Julian Assange. 0.99

00:21:00.680 These are fucking heroes. 0.99

00:21:02.520 And some people should be like, 1.00

00:21:03.400 well,

00:21:03.700 I can't believe that they would expose the government.

00:21:05.840 Good.

00:21:06.740 They value you

00:21:07.760 more than the government values you.

00:21:09.740 They're telling you the truth.

00:21:11.080 And still,

00:21:11.560 some people don't call guys like this 0.99

00:21:12.980 fucking heroes. 0.99

00:21:15.400 Free Edward Snowden. 1.00

00:21:16.360 He's still in Russia

00:21:17.240 because he exposed the NSA

00:21:18.820 for spying on you 1.00

00:21:19.980 every fucking day. 1.00

00:21:21.560 And still, 0.99

00:21:22.140 some people are like,

00:21:22.620 well,

00:21:23.040 they don't actually watch you

00:21:24.500 at every second.

00:21:25.720 Yes, 1.00

00:21:26.260 the fuck they do. 1.00

00:21:27.520 Breaking the habitus surrounding them, 1.00

00:21:30.020 which threatens the whole house of cards

00:21:31.640 that society is built on.

00:21:33.140 Which is why true,

00:21:34.000 authentic reality

00:21:34.900 is always outrunning our apprehension.

00:21:37.080 So then how can we ever know the truth

00:21:38.620 when the lens we look through

00:21:39.740 is tainted by a corrupted habitus,

00:21:41.960 tainted by all the models

00:21:43.160 of distractions

00:21:43.760 that we don't even acknowledge?

00:21:45.380 If we can't comprehend true reality,

00:21:47.160 we no longer know what truth is.

00:21:49.200 We don't have a grasp

00:21:50.220 on what our values really are.

00:21:51.680 And it's this flattening of our values,

00:21:53.780 of our society,

00:21:54.660 of our culture

00:21:55.280 that dampens our outrage and emotion.

00:21:58.000 Hello,

00:21:58.560 I'm born!

00:21:59.260 Everything becomes muted

00:22:00.340 by our post-modern reality.

00:22:01.980 In the Truman Show,

00:22:02.840 Truman's deserved our- 0.73

00:22:03.880 Yo,

00:22:04.400 we don't even-

00:22:05.060 Our reality's getting so warped

00:22:06.800 that I just watched this documentary

00:22:08.360 What is a Woman? 1.00

00:22:08.980 by Matt Walsh.

00:22:10.280 People don't even know 0.99

00:22:11.700 what the fuck to call a woman now. 0.98

00:22:13.520 They're like, 1.00

00:22:13.740 whatever you identify as a woman,

00:22:15.880 okay,

00:22:16.460 what is a woman? 1.00

00:22:17.700 What are they identifying as?

00:22:20.360 This question is transphobic. 1.00

00:22:22.680 People are so fucking brainwashed, 1.00

00:22:25.560 we don't even know what genders are. 1.00

00:22:28.460 We're so brainwashed

00:22:29.600 that you can say 1.00

00:22:29.980 a woman is a bitch with a vagina. 1.00

00:22:31.780 What's a male? 1.00

00:22:32.820 What's a man? 1.00

00:22:33.740 A dude with a dick. 1.00

00:22:34.940 It's that fucking simple. 1.00

00:22:36.680 But we're so brainwashed 1.00

00:22:37.820 by this nonsense 0.81

00:22:38.600 that they want us to believe, 0.99

00:22:40.420 we can't even fucking- 0.98

00:22:41.540 We're not even living in reality. 0.98

00:22:43.380 Whatever you identify

00:22:44.380 and whatever you feel

00:22:45.880 is the truth

00:22:46.780 that you're living, 1.00

00:22:47.900 shut the fuck up, dummy. 1.00

00:22:49.780 And I wish Matt Walsh 1.00

00:22:50.640 just had the balls, 0.99

00:22:51.560 but he doesn't- 0.99

00:22:52.720 It's not about not having balls. 0.97

00:22:53.620 Matt Walsh and guys like, 0.98

00:22:54.880 it's complicated.

00:22:55.480 There's a lot of guys

00:22:55.840 who just ask questions

00:22:56.800 and use the Socratic method 1.00

00:22:58.180 to expose the bullshit. 1.00

00:22:59.400 I believe all the same shit 1.00

00:23:00.460 they believe. 1.00

00:23:01.200 I'm just more of a dickhead about it 0.98

00:23:02.540 because I don't want to come off 0.98

00:23:03.640 like a good guy. 0.99

00:23:04.320 I don't give a fuck. 0.99

00:23:05.200 Hate me. 1.00

00:23:05.920 Fuck you. 1.00

00:23:06.580 You're stupid. 1.00

00:23:07.400 I'm going to be that guy. 1.00

00:23:08.820 Outrage at the cage

00:23:09.820 he has been trapped in

00:23:10.740 is never tapped into.

00:23:12.140 He's never angry.

00:23:13.120 Instead, he's always left

00:23:14.140 in a state of confusion

00:23:15.060 and distraction.

00:23:15.760 He's meant to feel crazy

00:23:17.080 by searching for the truth.

00:23:18.580 This is because

00:23:19.100 for the show to be successful,

00:23:20.600 it relies on Truman

00:23:21.680 and his belief

00:23:22.360 in the society around him.

00:23:23.680 If he starts questioning this,

00:23:25.000 then society goes down with him.

00:23:26.660 So-

00:23:26.920 Yep.

00:23:27.900 Society has to prevent him

00:23:29.220 from questioning the habitus

00:23:30.340 he is surrounded by.

00:23:31.340 And are we any different?

00:23:32.660 Is this why we live in a culture

00:23:33.960 without soul or value?

00:23:35.180 Where everything we think and do

00:23:36.380 is shrinked down by reductionism.

00:23:38.040 Where the phenomena of nature,

00:23:39.580 personality,

00:23:40.340 the essence of life

00:23:41.400 is just reduced to statistics

00:23:42.920 and banal labels.

00:23:43.940 Our world is filled

00:23:45.060 with mystery and wonder.

00:23:46.180 It's filled with adventure.

00:23:47.160 Travel the world, Chad.

00:23:48.200 But our world is being reduced

00:23:49.520 to nothing more

00:23:50.240 than a banal monotonous cage,

00:23:52.200 numbing us into this

00:23:53.140 bored, flaccid apathy.

00:23:54.600 This is what you guys look like.

00:23:55.720 You just lay down on your side

00:23:57.080 scrolling on OnlyFans

00:23:58.140 and TikTok

00:23:58.560 playing Fortnite

00:23:59.420 instead of actually

00:24:00.240 like living life.

00:24:01.540 That's ecstate,

00:24:02.520 which is what

00:24:02.960 The Truman Show

00:24:03.540 tries to show us.

00:24:04.600 Once home,

00:24:05.100 Truman is now feeling

00:24:05.800 like an animal in a cage.

00:24:07.260 His wife,

00:24:07.840 unable to come down,

00:24:09.120 offers him some coffee

00:24:10.000 with a less than subtle

00:24:10.960 product placement.

00:24:11.660 Truman immediately

00:24:12.500 centers out the fact

00:24:13.400 that she is performing

00:24:14.180 for someone

00:24:14.720 and so he confronts her

00:24:15.900 about it.

00:24:16.500 He's starting to reject 0.93

00:24:17.260 this ridiculous reality 0.97

00:24:18.440 he is surrounded by 0.96

00:24:19.440 and because of this

00:24:20.260 he seems crazy.

00:24:21.380 Which is why then

00:24:22.100 the actor of Truman's wife

00:24:23.380 begins to break character

00:24:24.500 and pulls out

00:24:25.340 a sharpened kitchen utensil

00:24:26.840 to defend herself.

00:24:28.260 It's these sorts of cracks

00:24:29.140 in the show

00:24:29.600 that only happen

00:24:30.480 when Truman stops

00:24:31.440 believing in it.

00:24:32.280 Like in our world,

00:24:32.940 we're now starting to see

00:24:33.640 the rise of political outsiders.

00:24:35.320 We're seeing the rise

00:24:36.000 of extremism

00:24:36.700 and a general apathy

00:24:37.620 of all the people

00:24:38.440 who refuse to believe

00:24:39.300 in our current system.

00:24:40.260 With our government

00:24:44.120 starting to collapse

00:24:44.920 with war imminent,

00:24:45.940 no one trusts

00:24:46.540 our broken society

00:24:47.700 and in the case

00:24:48.480 of the Truman Show,

00:24:49.360 it's this unraveling madness

00:24:50.600 that almost ends

00:24:51.360 with Truman's wife

00:24:52.080 revealing her active role.

00:24:53.560 Only until Truman's

00:24:54.500 lifelong friend Marlon

00:24:55.560 bursts in at the last minute

00:24:56.740 and whisks Truman away

00:24:57.840 to have a heart-to-heart conversation.

00:24:59.380 But at this point,

00:25:00.060 it's like putting a band-aid

00:25:01.120 on a gaping wound.

00:25:02.220 The floodgates are now open

00:25:03.380 and Truman's belief

00:25:04.200 is dwindling.

00:25:05.080 In this scene,

00:25:05.680 the two are sitting

00:25:06.260 near the river

00:25:06.820 and begin reminiscing.

00:25:07.960 Christoph, through Marlon,

00:25:09.040 reassures Truman

00:25:09.780 that Truman's life

00:25:10.520 has meaning

00:25:11.120 and is normal.

00:25:11.880 He comforts Truman

00:25:12.700 by assuring him

00:25:13.620 that if what Truman

00:25:14.420 believed was real,

00:25:15.340 then everyone would

00:25:16.060 have to be in on it,

00:25:17.160 including him.

00:25:17.980 Though this isn't possible

00:25:19.100 as Marlon would never lie.

00:25:20.760 On the surface,

00:25:21.560 Truman seemingly

00:25:22.260 takes this into heart.

00:25:23.420 But deep down,

00:25:23.980 he knows that Marlon

00:25:24.700 is just a victim of the game.

00:25:26.060 And so he deliberately

00:25:26.860 shows to him

00:25:27.500 that he bought the ruse.

00:25:28.800 He knows that Marlon

00:25:29.440 isn't a bad person,

00:25:30.600 but that he's not

00:25:31.240 a real person.

00:25:32.280 Morning arrives

00:25:32.960 and Truman seems

00:25:36.480 to be back

00:25:36.840 to his old self.

00:25:37.760 He draws with a bar

00:25:38.480 of soap on in the morning.

00:25:39.560 He has the usual

00:25:40.180 conversations with his

00:25:41.080 neighbours and co-workers

00:25:42.000 and seems interested

00:25:42.960 in a new office mate

00:25:44.060 he will have next to him.

00:25:45.120 Evening,

00:25:45.380 he rolls around

00:25:48.320 and everything seems

00:25:49.080 business as usual

00:25:49.880 with Truman fast asleep.

00:25:51.300 However,

00:25:51.640 Christoph senses

00:25:52.400 something is off.

00:25:53.440 Truman fell asleep

00:25:54.120 in the basement

00:25:54.760 rather than his bed.

00:25:56.400 So Marlon is again

00:25:57.240 sent over with a six-pack

00:25:58.580 to investigate

00:25:59.240 and talk Truman

00:25:59.960 back to sense.

00:26:00.940 However,

00:26:01.280 this time he finds

00:26:02.180 that Truman isn't there

00:26:03.260 and has escaped

00:26:04.000 from the house.

00:26:05.020 Christoph calls

00:26:05.640 for all actors

00:26:06.340 to search for Truman

00:26:07.240 and for the first time

00:26:08.320 in the show's history

00:26:09.060 cuts the transmission.

00:26:10.440 However,

00:26:10.800 even with all the actors

00:26:11.800 searching the entire set,

00:26:13.260 Truman cannot be found.

00:26:14.500 At his wits end,

00:26:15.380 Christoph has the set

00:26:16.180 illuminated into

00:26:17.040 daylight mode early

00:26:17.960 and on a hunch

00:26:18.960 has the team begin

00:26:19.880 looking through the cameras

00:26:20.940 near the harbour

00:26:21.620 and on the boat.

00:26:23.400 After cycling

00:26:24.200 through a few cameras,

00:26:25.180 the team finds Truman

00:26:25.920 aboard a sailboat

00:26:26.900 and Christoph gives the call

00:26:28.220 to resume transmission.

00:26:29.220 After a few moments

00:26:30.260 of peace sailing,

00:26:31.080 Christoph is then

00:26:31.680 faced with a dilemma.

00:26:32.680 He either continues

00:26:33.400 the transmission

00:26:34.020 at risk of Truman

00:26:34.880 finding the truth

00:26:35.720 or he gets rid of

00:26:36.660 Truman entirely.

00:26:37.780 So he decides

00:26:38.680 to send a violent storm

00:26:39.680 above Truman's boat.

00:26:40.820 Christoph increases

00:26:41.540 the violence of the weather

00:26:42.420 but after a few long minutes,

00:26:44.020 relents.

00:26:44.680 Amidst this,

00:26:45.180 Truman shows his willingness

00:26:46.040 to dive for the truth

00:26:47.080 by shouting to the sky,

00:26:48.260 Is this the best you've got?

00:26:49.500 Christoph,

00:26:50.000 in godlike

00:26:50.380 You feel me?

00:26:51.200 Is that the best you've got?

00:26:52.760 What's up?

00:26:53.680 Stupor descends

00:26:54.560 to send the most violent

00:26:55.600 bout of weather yet,

00:26:56.720 all to the dismay

00:26:57.440 of his crew and producer.

00:26:58.380 Truman however holds on

00:26:59.880 but is not unconscious.

00:27:01.240 But at the last minute,

00:27:02.040 Christoph rescinds the weather

00:27:03.100 and removes the storm,

00:27:04.260 resuming the tranquil waters.

00:27:05.860 Truman regains consciousness

00:27:06.960 and begins sailing

00:27:07.740 his boat again.

00:27:08.700 He has beaten the storm

00:27:09.580 and the sea seems

00:27:10.280 to be in his favour.

00:27:11.260 However,

00:27:11.660 after a few minutes,

00:27:12.640 the bow of Truman's boat

00:27:13.560 launches through

00:27:14.180 the side of his set,

00:27:15.200 leaving a big hole

00:27:15.980 in the sky dome.

00:27:16.820 By now,

00:27:17.300 all of Truman's suspicions

00:27:18.400 have been confirmed

00:27:19.140 and,

00:27:19.720 in an ecstasy,

00:27:20.480 begins punching the wall.

00:27:21.600 However,

00:27:21.880 the reality of Truman's situation

00:27:23.300 begins to dawn on him

00:27:24.340 as he sees the ramp

00:27:25.220 at the end of the water.

00:27:26.360 Truman walks across this ramp,

00:27:27.560 walking on the water.

00:27:28.700 The audience is gripped.

00:27:29.820 The culmination of his 30 years

00:27:31.180 in the Truman show

00:27:31.920 seems to be at its finale.

00:27:33.700 Truman locates a staircase

00:27:34.720 and slowly ascends

00:27:35.780 to the side of the set.

00:27:36.960 At the top,

00:27:37.520 he locates the door

00:27:38.220 labelled exit

00:27:38.840 and opens it,

00:27:39.840 revealing the abyss

00:27:40.620 beyond his realm.

00:27:41.420 A godlike voice

00:27:42.140 then thunders through the sky

00:27:43.380 as Christoph reveals

00:27:44.380 that Truman was the star

00:27:45.460 of a TV show

00:27:46.420 with the whole world watching.

00:27:47.820 Truman asks,

00:27:48.560 was nothing real?

00:27:49.280 And in response,

00:27:50.200 Christoph responds

00:27:50.960 that Truman is real

00:27:51.940 and that's what made him

00:27:52.740 so enjoyable for millions.

00:27:54.340 Christoph then tries

00:27:55.020 to keep Truman in the set

00:27:56.220 by indicating that

00:27:57.180 there was no more truth

00:27:58.100 out in the real world

00:27:59.100 and that in the world

00:27:59.800 he created for him,

00:28:00.680 he had nothing to fear.

00:28:01.760 The ignorance was bliss.

00:28:03.040 After a few moments of silence,

00:28:04.360 Ignorance is bliss.

00:28:05.920 That's why people choose

00:28:07.080 complacency.

00:28:08.780 They'd rather not think

00:28:09.460 for themselves.

00:28:09.960 They'd rather have

00:28:10.580 a guy like that dude

00:28:11.640 think for them.

00:28:15.360 It's tough to think

00:28:16.180 for yourself.

00:28:17.000 Truman looks up

00:28:17.740 at the camera

00:28:18.220 and says his final words

00:28:19.360 before leaving the show.

00:28:20.660 Good afternoon,

00:28:21.440 good evening,

00:28:21.840 and good night.

00:28:22.580 It's Truman's 0.91

00:28:23.320 overriding impulse

00:28:24.400 to return to what is real

00:28:25.680 that makes the entire show

00:28:26.980 fall apart.

00:28:27.880 His drive to understand

00:28:28.880 true reality

00:28:29.560 is enough to bring down

00:28:30.720 the false reality

00:28:31.620 he'd been living in.

00:28:32.420 As he goes through the door,

00:28:33.700 this symbolizes Truman

00:28:34.700 taking back control

00:28:35.900 and turning back

00:28:39.980 on a sterile,

00:28:40.920 hollowed out reality.

00:28:41.900 And today,

00:28:42.420 we're in the same process. 0.90

00:28:43.700 The increasingly ridiculousness 0.88

00:28:45.120 of our society 0.84

00:28:45.920 and the habitus

00:28:46.860 that we're servile to

00:28:47.840 is beginning to crack.

00:28:49.080 With our world,

00:28:49.820 economy and culture

00:28:50.660 crumbling into the ground,

00:28:51.840 we're seeing a rejection

00:28:53.000 of this tired system.

00:28:54.320 We're seeing new waves

00:28:55.160 of younger generations

00:28:56.140 dropping out of the workforce,

00:28:57.560 rejecting the habitus

00:28:58.540 imposed on them

00:28:59.240 and millions taking

00:29:00.060 the untrodden path,

00:29:01.300 which is causing society

00:29:02.380 to reach a crossroads.

00:29:03.680 We're faced with a new path

00:29:04.960 because those in control

00:29:06.060 of our reality

00:29:06.760 are now making a new one.

00:29:08.300 A path of metaverses

00:29:09.500 and virtual AI reality

00:29:10.740 to take us astray

00:29:11.680 from our current world

00:29:12.640 and the other path

00:29:13.440 is a reversion back

00:29:14.360 to what is truly felt.

00:29:15.640 But whichever path we take,

00:29:16.980 our belief in society

00:29:17.940 is falling apart.

00:29:19.240 The cracks are starting to show

00:29:20.660 everywhere you look.

00:29:21.700 and the game

00:29:22.380 is collapsing in on itself.

00:29:24.060 So the question is,

00:29:25.020 where does it go from here?

00:29:26.620 Get money,

00:29:27.880 get out.

00:29:33.280 That's it.

00:29:33.680 Is this your job?
