00:00:02.320 A revolution in civilization is taking place.

00:00:07.100 Imagine a traditional city and consolidating its footprint,

00:00:11.240 designing to protect and enhance nature.

00:00:15.040 The line's communities are organized in three dimensions,

00:00:18.560 within five-minute walk neighborhoods.

00:00:21.440 Travel end-to-end in 20 minutes.

00:00:25.320 Designed by world-leading...

00:00:26.980 Oh, we just watched this. I'm retarded. 0.96

00:00:28.180 We just watched this. We watched this one. 0.97

00:00:32.760 I'm retarded. 0.95

00:00:34.400 Is there more? 0.93

00:00:36.200 The land of the future.

00:00:42.560 Neom, the land of the future. 0.81

00:00:46.280 I'm originally a dentist.

00:00:49.280 I had to learn everything from scratch,

00:00:52.420 just to create a song.

00:00:55.460 So I never give up.

00:00:58.180 Nothing can ever stop me.

00:01:05.040 In 10 years...

00:01:06.300 What the hell does that have to do with Neom, bro? 0.90

00:01:08.320 Look at them putting, like, nice, inspirational music next to the new world.

00:01:12.000 I see Neom as the city of my dreams.

00:01:14.580 How? Who? What do you mean? Who are you?

00:01:17.180 Why do you believe in Neom? I don't know you.

00:01:18.980 You're just a DJ?

00:01:19.620 Being this person who's passionate about nature and technology all at the same time.

00:01:26.480 I see all these little plans happening and becoming alive.

00:01:30.800 You see how they manipulate you?

00:01:31.960 And Sevens is right in the chat.

00:01:32.960 He said,

00:01:33.540 Yep, climate change destroys the earth,

00:01:35.160 so we gotta live in a box so we are easier to control.

00:01:37.740 People, get your money up and open up your mind.

00:01:39.260 Exactly, Sevens. You get it, bro. You really do get it.

00:01:47.120 Oh, it's made by the Saudis. 1.00

00:01:48.740 Saudi Arabia's linear future city, Neom Explained. 0.96

00:01:52.460 The future planet.

00:01:53.620 The crown of the kingdom's Vision 2030 diversification program is undoubtedly Neom, 0.99

00:01:59.920 which will cost an estimated 500 billion.

00:02:02.660 500 billion!

00:02:03.800 All the oil money is being spent on a brick wall civilization.

00:02:07.300 Dollars to construct alone.

00:02:08.800 Glass wall.

00:02:09.480 Neom claims to be a blueprint for tomorrow, 0.99

00:02:11.780 in which humanity progresses without compromising the health of the planet.

00:02:15.820 Hello, and welcome back to our channel, Future Planet.

00:02:18.280 In today's video, we will talk-

00:02:26.400 Bad vibes, bad vibes.

00:02:27.960 No one fought for this, bro.

00:02:29.560 About Saudi Arabia's linear future city, Neom.

00:02:32.860 Before we continue, take a moment to subscribe to our channel, Future Planet,

00:02:36.620 for more amazing videos just like this one.

00:02:38.920 No, no.

00:02:39.300 Via Mohammed bin Salman announced the launch of the nation's first futuristic

00:02:43.440 and fully automated business zone, Neom, in 2017.

00:02:47.060 Let's take a look at what is being promised in this 500-

00:02:50.440 It's like an Assassin's Creed game, right?

00:02:52.120 100 billion dollar city, and why Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is pushing for its construction.

00:02:58.960 Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 outlines $1.8 trillion in investment in infrastructure,

00:03:04.880 education, housing, and healthcare, over 10 years in a bid to develop the private sector

00:03:09.480 and create new jobs. 0.56

00:03:11.660 The goals of Vision 2030 are to enhance the effectiveness of Saudi Arabia

00:03:15.860 in improving the quality of life for its citizens,

00:03:19.080 increase the nation's income, and diversify the economy by creating new industries.

00:03:24.380 The new city, Neom, is named from a combination-

00:03:26.840 It's a whole new city?

00:03:29.660 Chad, W-O, would you live here?

00:03:31.340 Bro, this is a pretty good ad, I'm not gonna lie, it's a little convincing, but this is, this is, this is scary.

00:03:35.420 But it's also kind of like, maybe?

00:03:38.420 For new, and the Arabic term for future, covering a total area of over 26,500 square kilometers,

00:03:46.560 larger than Kuwait, or in fact, Israel.

00:03:49.680 Neom will exist entirely outside the confines of the current Saudi judicial system, 0.94

00:03:54.960 and governed by an autonomous legal system that investors will draft up.

00:03:59.360 This high-tech business hub is to be located in the Tabuk province in the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia,

00:04:05.740 along the Red Sea coast.

00:04:07.660 The region has been selected because of its relatively mild climate.

00:04:11.480 The project is expected to generate 380,000 jobs,

00:04:15.440 and contribute for-

00:04:16.560 Wow, that's a lot of jobs, and I like this music.

00:04:18.960 ...8 billion US dollars to the kingdom's GDP by 2030.

00:04:22.780 The goal of the project is to demonstrate that the kingdom has the-

00:04:26.080 You guys like this? There's a lot of W's here, bro.

00:04:28.840 ...capacity to develop large-scale urban centers-

00:04:31.160 But do you see it? Like, this is making it look really cool and futuristic as shit, 0.97

00:04:35.040 but bro, there's no way you should trust this. 0.76

00:04:37.080 ...centers that can serve as economic hubs,

00:04:39.480 even as it continues to produce a majority of its energy needs through oil and gas.

00:04:44.140 The future city is being designed to maximize the use of renewable energy,

00:04:47.980 and employ cutting-edge technologies.

00:04:50.280 Initial plans for the city include drone taxis,

00:04:52.960 a Jurassic Park-style amusement park, and a giant artificial moon that lights up night.

00:04:57.720 ...this is literally like a movie.

00:04:59.720 ...reports state that the futuristic city-state is being built using artificial intelligence,

00:05:05.000 ...too much! AI, bro!

00:05:07.800 ...who's saying it's still W after all this?

00:05:09.540 ...and clean energy sources.

00:05:11.080 The planners-

00:05:11.720 ...clean energy? Shut the fuck up! 1.00

00:05:13.440 They're gonna use the climate to make you believe in this shit! 1.00

00:05:15.520 ...the city have said that they would provide bullet trains and a hyperloop for transportation, 0.99

00:05:19.740 ...but residents would be encouraged to use bicycle.

00:05:22.500 Neom's official website, which seems like something out of a sci-fi novel,

00:05:26.500 ...claims that the first phase of the megaterritory will be completed by 2025.

00:05:30.500 Neom will consist of three major regions, namely Oxagon, Trojena, and the Line.

00:05:36.500 ...Hunger Games

00:05:38.500 ...Oxagon

00:05:39.500 According to the Neom website, Oxagon will be a new paradigm where people, industries,

00:05:44.340 ...and technology come together in harmony with nature.

00:05:47.260 To be located in the southwest of the new city, Oxagon will host an integrated port and

00:05:52.440 logistics hub located on the Red Sea close to the Suez Canal.

00:05:56.660 As well as a hydrogen project and modular building construction factory, the district will

00:06:01.460 house the previously announced data center, developed in partnership with the Fast Energy

00:06:17.420 that will host Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

00:06:20.220 Oxagon

00:06:21.220 Neom definition means future, I saw already, Chad. Thank you, though.

00:06:23.220 ...Gon will be the catalyst for economic growth and diversity in Neom and the Kingdom. 0.99

00:06:28.220 ...It looks cool, though, but fuck that. 0.95

00:06:32.220 Further meeting our ambitions under Vision 2030, said Prince Salman. 0.97

00:06:36.460 It will contribute to Saudi Arabia's regional trade and commerce and support creating a new

00:06:40.940 focal point for global trade flows. I am pleased to see that the business end of-

00:06:45.420 Look what they're doing in the Middle East and then look what they're doing in China, 0.90

00:06:47.900 the type of advancement they have. The only advancements that we have in America are just

00:06:52.060 adding more pronouns and adding more genders and adding more sexualities and adding more

00:06:57.100 letters to LGBTQIA. That's our only advancements. But look at what they're, look how we're falling

00:07:03.340 behind, yo! Development have started on the ground, and we look forward to the city's rapid expansion.

00:07:09.740 Trojena, an all-year-round ski village and nearly two-mile artificial freshwater lake. 0.99

00:07:15.340 That looks dope, but fuck that. 0.99

00:07:16.860 And the vault. It's like a vertical village within the mountain with a fusion of technology, 0.99

00:07:22.060 entertainment and hospitality facilities. Trojena expects to attract 700,000 visitors and 7,000

00:07:28.860 permanent residents by 2030. It was also claimed that the project would create 10,000 jobs and

00:07:34.780 add 800 million US$. No, don't let this inspirational music fool you. Vanessa donated five visits to

00:07:41.100 Stiko. I think it's a good thing. Think about it more like the time travel improvement is so good.

00:07:44.780 No, no, Vanessa, Vanessa, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're spam bots in the chat for Vanessa,

00:07:49.180 bro. You could go to the Saudi fucking brick wall house. I'm, I'm, I'm, I would rather be outside. 1.00

00:07:54.940 ...$ to the Saudi economy. The line. The crown prince labeled the city project as a

00:08:01.580 civilizational plan that puts humans first. The line is crafted as a linear city for 1 million

00:08:07.500 people running 170 kilometers long with a width that would be walkable in five minutes.

00:08:13.580 The line is not designed to be a conventional city, but a futuristic one. A city's usual

00:08:18.700 amenities such as schools, hospitals and gardens will be carefully crafted. The entire Neom area,

00:08:24.300 including the line, will be a free trade zone with its own tax structure and an autonomous legal

00:08:29.580 system. As mentioned before, the line will run in a 100. You see how he just

00:08:34.060 walked over that really, an autonomous legal system, 70 kilometers straight. Is that what

00:08:38.300 he said earlier? The system as mentioned before, the line will run. They skip over all the weird

00:08:43.900 parts and just like blast inspirational music. Like motivational fucking yoga music. In a 170 0.99

00:08:50.700 kilometers straight line through the desert. Ali Shihabi, a former banker now on Neom's advisory board,

00:08:57.100 says, the line will be built in stages, block by block. People say this is some crazy project

00:09:02.860 that's going to cost gazillions. But it's going to be built module by module, in a manner that meets

00:09:08.700 demand. He further explains that much like Barcelona's traffic-free super blocks,

00:09:14.060 Barcelona is like the best design city I've ever seen, I gotta be honest.

00:09:16.940 Each square will be self-sufficient, and contained amenities such as shops and schools so that anything

00:09:22.300 people need will be a five-minute walk or cycle away. When complete, travel along the line will

00:09:29.900 be via hyperspeed trains with the longest journey never more than 20 minutes. The extensive development

00:09:35.900 of plans for Neom have been welcomed by observers worldwide, who have noted that the first city will

00:09:41.260 serve as a remarkable attraction for visitors from all over the world. Neom is a project with a larger

00:09:47.100 objective. As the world moves towards a non-oil-based future, Saudi Arabia, as the largest oil producer,

00:09:53.340 finds its economy threatened, unless it finds alternate sources of wealth creation. Global

00:09:59.020 trade and tourism would be the key areas for Saudi's new economy. Neom, backed by the line as the first 1.00

00:10:05.100 fully-automated city could emerge as the leading global destination. Moving forward, let's talk about

00:10:15.660 some fascinating features of this mega city. Neom will be a regional powerhouse in water

00:10:20.540 production and storage, anchored on water desalination. Neom's water distribution network

00:10:25.900 will be connected entirely through an advanced internet of water infrastructure, delivering

00:10:30.700 high-quality drinking water and recycled water across its network while removing wastewater.

00:10:35.180 Recycled water? Smart irrigation, leak detection, and water quality monitoring will be controlled in

00:10:52.060 real-time. Experts claim that Neom will be one of the world's leading green hydrogen producers,

00:10:59.260 as it is one of few places in the world where it can be produced competitively,

00:11:03.740 and in large quantities. Saudi Arabia's master plan is to increase non-oil-related revenue and attract

00:11:09.980 foreign investment. This is what's happening, bro. They're running out of oil to dig.

00:11:14.060 They've been fracking the earth like they've been fracking, just fracking and fracking and fracking,

00:11:20.220 and now they're like, how do we make more money, uh, people?

00:11:24.460 ...investment with interesting proposals to stimulate economic growth.

00:11:28.220 The GIGA project is part of the Crown Prince's vision of a greener Saudi Arabia.

00:11:33.180 The technological and environmental

00:11:34.940 The plans of the zero cars, zero streets, and zero car emissions have drawn the most attention.

00:11:41.180 Mohammed bin Salman has said,

00:11:43.340 Beginning this journey to

00:11:45.660 The greener future has not been easy, but we are not avoiding tough choices.

00:11:50.140 We reject the false choice between preserving the economy and protecting the

00:11:54.220 Cap! Cap! All you do is dig up oil and frack the earth, and now you're a fucking climate change.

00:12:00.220 Oh, but he's smiling, so I believe him. Get the fuck up out of here, bro. 1.00

00:12:03.180 ...environment. The city infrastructure is expected to cost between $100 to $200 billion U.S. dollars. 0.98

00:12:09.100 Nia means evil in Hebrew? Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh, boom, boka. 1.00

00:12:14.780 Investments are planned to be drawn from the U.S. $500 billion dollars allocated for Nia.

00:12:19.980 The Public Investment Fund, or PIF, which is the Saudi's foreign wealth fund and local and global

00:12:25.340 investors over ten years. Well, the city's infrastructure and services will be arranged in

00:12:30.540 three layers. The top layer will be the pedestrian layer, supported by two underground layers.

00:12:36.140 It will be followed by the service layer of physical infrastructure. And further below,

00:12:40.780 the service layer will be this fine layer for transportation. The high-speed transit is being

00:12:48.860 designed to reach people within 20 minutes anywhere in the city. Moreover, construction of the project's

00:12:54.620 first phase has already begun. Neon Bay, some hotel complexes, and luxurious apartments were completed

00:13:00.780 in 2019. And the Neon Bay airport was inaugurated. A massive complex of palaces-

00:13:06.620 Wow, little girl, that means good. Cube said, this is, uh, this is that agenda 2030 population

00:13:11.260 control stuff, LMFAO. The logo is literally a pentagram. Why the fuck do they always make it

00:13:15.180 so obvious? Because this is what I heard. They just put it right in your face so that it's not 0.99

00:13:19.740 a conspiracy. If it's right in front of you all the time, then it's not a conspiracy because they

00:13:23.980 told you. And they get to separate any empathy and they get to separate any responsibility from it.

00:13:29.100 But he, and then he said it helps people wake up though. Not really. A lot of people are like,

00:13:32.940 Yeah! I like the inspiration of da-da-da! Da-da-da!

00:13:38.060 The Saudi king, prince, and royal family members has also been started.

00:13:42.380 The city would be run totally on smart city technologies. Robots will play a key role in

00:13:47.180 security, logistics, home delivery, and care provision. So with that, our video has come to an

00:13:52.460 end. Now let's watch how this young prince sees power in Saudi Arabia. This is the guy who's talking

00:13:56.060 about climate change and developing this. Made by Vox. Shout out to Vox.

00:14:02.380 Check out these two Saudi princes.

00:14:06.940 This one's the 57 year old crown prince.

00:14:11.580 And this one, the one doing all the hand kissing, is his younger cousin.

00:14:16.860 Listen to what the older cousin is saying.

00:14:18.620 He's being forced to give up his power and to pass the crown prince title to his younger cousin,

00:14:37.820 a guy who's almost half his age. This is Mohammed bin Salman.

00:14:41.500 And that's the guy who's in charge of this Neom thing. He said the Saudi prince chops up journalists

00:14:46.620 who disagree with him. Why would anyone trust this guy with the whole city? Exactly. If he's chopping

00:14:52.540 up journalists just because he's smiling all the time and kissing hands doesn't make him a good

00:14:56.700 person. This is what politicians do. They kiss a couple of babies' heads and then nuke a Haiti, 1.00

00:15:01.660 a Haitian village, bro. It's just like... In the West, we just call him MBS. And since this moment in June,

00:15:08.380 he's consolidated power so swiftly and so thoroughly that in Saudi Arabia, they just

00:15:15.100 know him as Mr. Everything.

00:15:19.260 Mr. Everything. Jesus Christ.

00:15:23.020 As crown prince, MBS will become king. And with all of this new power, MBS is seeking to assert his

00:15:29.100 dominance throughout the Middle East. One of his big policies has been a vehement opposition to

00:15:34.540 Saudi Arabia's neighbor, Iran. And on that note, he has found an ally in the White House.

00:15:40.220 Wrong. Wrong.

00:15:43.900 Inside the kingdom, MBS is also seeking to cement his authority and dominance over the royal family.

00:15:50.060 Saudi Arabia's young crown prince arresting hundreds of his own cousins.

00:15:54.220 Crack down on corruption. Eleven princes and nearly 40 current or former officials detained,

00:16:00.060 reportedly being held at the lavish Ritz Carlton. Yes, if you're a Saudi prince, jail is the Ritz 0.65

00:16:06.460 Carlton. MBS called this a corruption crackdown, and he branded himself as the financially responsible

00:16:15.660 anti-corruption leader. But we're talking about a guy who recently purchased one of the most expensive

00:16:20.540 homes in the world and who last year spent a half a billion dollars on a painting. He clearly had other

00:16:26.300 motives for this crackdown beyond fiscal responsibility. One thing to realize is that

00:16:30.940 the Saudi royal family is made up of thousands of members who use public money generated from oil

00:16:36.140 revenues to fund their unfa- And now they're running out of oil! How are they going to get money?

00:16:40.380 thinkably excessive lifestyles. So it wouldn't be hard for MBS to crack down on anyone he wants to.

00:16:46.620 Chad, what else do you- Chad, talk to me so I can learn more about this guy. I've never heard

00:16:49.740 about him before. Can you tell me more about him?

00:16:51.260 Chad, talk to me. Coming into power, MBS's second big move was to loosen the strict moral and social

00:16:58.220 rules of the kingdom. Is that the guy in the meme of like he's getting taking pictures everywhere and

00:17:02.220 he just walks in like, do you remember? He's definitely not that guy, but that's what he looks

00:17:06.380 like, right? You know what meme with the guy who walks in like with all the fucking paparazzi? 0.97

00:17:10.700 He stripped the religious police of their right to make arrests. He expanded women's rights in society, 0.98

00:17:31.020 including giving them the right to drive. On the surface, these are progressive social reforms

00:17:35.900 meant to modernize Saudi society. But like the anti-corruption crackdowns, the move is another 0.88

00:17:41.180 effort to seize power. Saudi society is built on a sort of pact between the royal family, which is

00:17:47.580 called the House of Saud, and the vast religious establishment run by conservative Islamic clerics.

00:17:53.820 The clerics give the Saud family legitimacy by giving them their blessing as rulers of the kingdom.

00:17:59.740 In exchange, the family allows the clerics to strictly enforce their uncompromising, pure

00:18:04.780 any leaked Bezos messages? That's kind of goaded.

00:18:07.100 botanical version of Israel. So Chad, is he a W or L?

00:18:09.340 Islam within the kingdom. This Faustian bargain means that Saudi princes like MBS and others 0.84

00:18:15.100 can live these indulgent lifestyles and make deals with the West, but still retain religious 0.97

00:18:20.140 legitimacy in the eyes of the public. It's a balance that has kept the kingdom stable in this very

00:18:25.020 volatile region. But now MBS has violated his family's part of the bargain, arresting hardline

00:18:30.700 clerics who might speak out against his progressive reforms. This could shake one of the foundational

00:18:35.180 pillars of Saudi society. The third way MBS is shaking up the kingdom is his plans for the economy.

00:18:42.620 The kingdom's revenue comes almost entirely from oil. Demand for oil has remained solid for decades,

00:18:51.100 and Saudi has reaped the rewards of that. But in 2014, the price of oil started to drop. And it

00:18:59.420 became clear that betting the entire kingdom's economy on this one resource was a dangerous

00:19:05.020 strategy for the future. So MBS wants to end what he calls this oil addiction in order to prepare for

00:19:16.940 a world after oil. He's laid out a vision for privatizing a lot of the sectors within the Saudi
