The other day we did a great show with James Manson of the Justice Center for Constitutional Freedoms and we had the lead attorney in the case to stop Ontario s unlawful prorogation. Unfortunately, the volume was down and the audio was not good enough for the whole thing to be heard.
00:11:19.860Karina Gould has been watching from the wings.
00:11:22.540But the 37-year-old government house leader is ready to step up.
00:11:26.520I'm literally hearing from every age and demographic in this country that are excited about the possibility of renewal, of energy, and of change.
00:20:39.360Here's some interesting commentary from former Prime Minister Stephen Harper on all of this.
00:20:45.680According to President Trump, about $200 billion a year protecting Canada went on saying he doesn't need – the U.S. doesn't need Canada's lumber.
00:20:53.860Commenting on the tariff problem, which, of course, is going to be exacerbated very, very shortly.
00:21:01.560Maybe even Canada should be a 51st state.
00:21:03.580A lot out there just in a couple weeks.
00:21:10.300Well, I must admit, some degree of surprise.
00:21:18.580You know, we've always – I was, you know, ran a – in fact, our Conservative Party is a very, you know, pro-American, pro-Western party.
00:21:27.100I was probably the most pro-American prime minister in the history of our country.
00:21:33.640I view our relationship with the United States as one of Canada's great assets.
00:21:38.580You are our closest neighbor, our vital security partner, and, you know, not just our friend and shared comrade in the propagation of the values of the free and democratic world everywhere.
00:21:55.440And I've always viewed this as a tremendous partnership.
00:21:58.520I understand that, you know, Donald Trump may want some changes in trade arrangements, but I must admit to being shocked by some of the things he said.
00:22:23.460Canada – it is true that Canada presently has a modest trade surplus with the United States.
00:22:28.960The reason, Gabe, we do is because you buy so much of our oil and gas.
00:22:34.880In fact, you buy it at a discount to world markets.
00:22:37.780It's actually Canada that subsidizes the United States in this regard.
00:22:41.640And, you know, so maybe my response is maybe Canadians, if Mr. Trump feels this way, should be looking at selling their oil and gas to other people.
00:22:53.340We certainly have always wanted to do some of that.
00:23:21.200Even when you talk about migrants, first of all, there's no major migrant flow from Canada to the United States.
00:23:26.320There's you've obviously got an enormous problem on the southern border.
00:23:29.760By the way, the only problem here with Harper's assessment is he he doesn't understand the terrorist element that's going in the United States.
00:23:40.920But he points out that we don't sell any dairy to the U.S. at all.
00:25:00.180But it doesn't sound to me like the pronouncements of somebody who's a friend, a partner and an ally, which is what I've always thought the United States is for our country.
00:25:09.100Yeah, there's a lot to unpack there with regards to migration.
00:25:13.080Obviously, it's nowhere near what's happening in the southern border, but we do have the records are – they're at record level crossing from Canada to the United States.
00:25:26.980Yeah, so there's definitely a lot of work to do.
00:25:29.040You know, from where I said, I think there might be something there of trying to push Trudeau out the door and just trying to show that Trudeau won't be able to hang with the president.
00:25:38.460Yeah, look, I have no doubt that there's clearly animosity there, and for good reason.
00:25:44.540I mean, Mr. Trudeau's conduct with Mr. Trump on numerous occasions when they were in office together was not professional.
00:25:54.140And I can understand why there's some animosity.
00:25:56.660But look, whether or not we have Mr. Trudeau as our prime minister is our choice as Canadians.
00:26:02.140You know, we don't tell you who to elect as president of the United States.
00:26:04.840And so as much as I'm glad to see Mr. Trudeau leaving, this is not Mr. Trump's decision.
00:26:10.740It's the decision of – Canadians ultimately was the decision of Mr. Trudeau's own party.
00:26:15.820Yeah, I'm reaching out to Stephen Harper to get him – see, I'm not going to promise, because, yes, I knew Stephen Harper while he was in office.
00:26:25.560I worked for Stephen Harper's first leadership campaign.
00:29:12.640I'd like to submit for the record signatures by 32 members of the House of Representatives who are veterans.
00:29:20.720The signatures call on the Senate to honor the constitutional duty of advice and consent by conducting a fair, thorough confirmation process that evaluates his nomination solely on the substance and merits.
00:29:33.380His distinguished military service, academic credentials, and a bold vision for revitalizing the national offense.
00:29:39.340I ask unanimous consent to enter into the record.
00:29:43.620You know, there's a lot of talk going about, talking about qualifications and then about us hiring him if we are the board.
00:29:50.660But there's a lot of senators here I wouldn't have on my board because there is no qualifications except your age and you've got to be living in the state and you're a citizen of the United States to be a senator.
00:30:01.400Other than the fact we've got to convince a lot of people to vote for us.
00:30:04.000And then when we start talking about qualifications for if you're qualified for it, could the chairman tell me what the qualifications are for the secretary?
00:30:34.420They don't even know what the qualifications are.
00:30:39.120And the senator has it on his smartphone.
00:30:41.960I'm making a point because there's a lot about qualifications.
00:30:44.540And I think it's so hypocritical of senators, especially on the other side of the aisle, be talking about his qualifications, not going to lead the secretary or be the secretary of defense.
00:30:54.600And yet your qualifications aren't any better.
00:30:58.740You guys aren't any more qualified to be the senator than I'm qualified to be the senator, except we're lucky enough to be here.
00:31:03.820But let me read you what the qualifications of the secretary of defense is, because I Googled it, and I Googled it and went through a lot of different sites.
00:31:18.060If you have served in the U.S. Army forces and have been in the service for, you have to be retired for at least seven years, and Congress can weigh that.
00:31:28.820And then there's questions that the senator from Massachusetts brought up about serving on a board inside the military industry.
00:31:42.140And yet your own secretary that you all voted for, Secretary Austin, we had to vote on a waiver because he stepped off the board of Raytheon.
00:31:51.160But I guess that's okay, because that's a Democrat secretary of defense.
00:31:59.340And then Senator Kaine, or I guess I better use the senator from Virginia, starts bringing up the fact that what if you showed up drunk to your job?
00:32:07.980How many senators have showed up drunk to vote at night?
00:32:12.140Have any of you guys asked them to step down and resign for their job?
00:32:18.420And don't tell me you haven't seen it, because I know you have.
00:32:21.520And then how many senators do you know have got a divorce before cheating on their wives?
