Well, we're back again with another Take 5 session with Stand on Guard with David Creighton.
00:00:06.340
I'm your host, David Creighton, and the week has only begun here in Ottawa at Question Period,
00:00:15.840
and it's been fireworks on Monday, even though Justin Trudeau was out of town.
00:00:21.440
The last I heard, he was lecturing Poland about LGBTQ rights behind closed doors this time.
00:00:30.000
But we've got a great little segment for you here, because this is the clash of the titans,
00:00:36.380
at least between Conservative leader Pierre Polyev and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland,
00:00:43.880
who's always entertaining, you know, she is always entertaining, and there she is there.
00:00:49.640
I don't know what she thought she was dressing for on Monday,
00:00:53.860
but it looked like she was expecting to sit by the fire and read a good book
00:00:58.620
rather than sit in the front row of the Liberal caucus and answer questions on behalf of the Prime Minister.
00:01:06.740
But she was her typical self yesterday, and she kept saying the Conservatives were juvenile,
00:01:14.860
and they were acting like children, and adolescent.
00:01:22.580
And of course, she always thinks she's the only real adult in the room, wherever she is.
00:01:35.400
Well, the Conservatives have said that they're going to filibuster during the vote on the Liberal budget.
00:01:45.200
And she considers this to be adolescent, just horribly partisan behavior,
00:01:51.600
because they should be seeing the wisdom of the Liberal budget
00:01:55.400
and all of the wonderful things it's going to do.
00:01:57.900
But Polyev is using this opportunity to say that the Liberal government,
00:02:04.900
the Justin Trudeau government, has to pledge something towards lowering the debt,
00:02:16.300
ending annual deficits, and to bring down inflation and interest rates.
00:02:22.100
Because we're going to go, continuing to go on this downward spiral.
00:02:27.400
That's a bit of an oxymoron, because the interest rates are going to go up,
00:02:32.660
And at the same time, Polyev and the Conservatives are demanding
00:02:43.340
And there's one coming that, after all is said and done,
00:03:03.800
I want you to watch this exchange here between these two,
00:03:09.660
because it just, it shows you exactly how Christia Freeland thinks
00:03:24.720
Just six months ago, this minister promised a balanced budget by the year 2027.
00:03:35.580
Deficit finance minister, John Manley, a liberal,
00:03:39.700
said that while the Bank of Canada is slamming on the brakes of inflation with higher rates,
00:03:44.260
this government is slamming on the gas with higher spending.
00:03:49.880
when all of that mortgage debt Canadians hold comes up to renewal,
00:03:55.320
So will she act now to put in place a plan to balance the budget
00:04:02.000
Now, look at, watch this outrage from Christia Freeland.
00:04:11.720
by the reckless and irresponsible behaviour we are seeing from the Conservatives today.
00:04:18.420
They are showing that they prefer adolescent partisan gains
00:04:41.800
Canadians from getting with their parliamentary childishness.
00:04:47.280
They are preventing Canadians from getting the doubling
00:04:51.980
They're preventing us from putting in place an anti-flipping tax
00:05:00.000
Mr. Speaker, what is truly reckless is driving up inflation and interest rates
00:05:05.500
on Canadian consumers who are the most indebted in the entire G7.
00:05:10.320
In fact, the combined consumer debt is almost bigger than the entire Canadian economy.
00:05:15.280
And when the monster mortgages that Canadians took out with the advice of this government
00:05:20.280
back in 2021-22 come into higher rates for renewal,
00:05:28.540
Therefore, will the finance minister do what she promised only six months ago?
00:05:32.880
And that is to say, stop putting fuel on the inflationary fire,
00:05:36.560
balance the budget to bring down inflation and interest rates.
00:05:44.180
She's going to go on and on about how wonderful this budget is again.
00:05:49.420
And believe me, the concern here is that we are going to be headed for another
00:05:55.040
series of interest rate escalations, which are going to be catastrophic.
00:06:00.060
Mr. Speaker, someone who advised Canadians to opt out of inflation by investing in crypto
00:06:10.920
is pretty ill-positioned to offer economic advice of any kind.
00:06:15.980
She can't resist going back to the cryptocurrency thing.
00:06:19.880
Although it has absolutely nothing to do with the question,
00:06:23.400
with the economy today, with the carbon tax, with the budget,
00:06:29.460
Freeland has got to go back to Paliyev once espousing cryptocurrency.
00:06:35.760
And you know what he is doing instead of providing a responsible economic plan?
00:06:41.780
He is blocking the support that Canadians need,
00:06:44.400
real measures in our budget implementation bill.
00:06:47.440
For example, cracking down on predatory lending.
00:06:54.160
But the Conservatives, with their frivolous, childish behavior,
00:07:07.800
Yes, and as we mentioned earlier, those two conditions we've outlined.
00:07:12.600
He wants an end to all future hikes of the carbon tax,
00:07:16.720
and he wants a commitment to non-deficit spending every year.
00:07:21.160
To something, of course, Trudeau will never commit to because, you know,
00:07:31.920
It's going to be exciting to see if the Conservatives are successfully going to be able
00:07:38.940
I doubt they're going to get anything out of it.
00:07:40.940
But the questions this week so far are interesting because there seems to be a wider degree of support
00:07:48.440
to stop the carbon tax because it's clear it's not doing what it's supposed to do,
00:07:59.300
It's just hurting average Canadians who have to still drive to work
00:08:04.740
and have to heat their homes in the winter and, if they're lucky enough,
00:08:19.340
I want you all to continue to watch us this week as we unfold the events in the House of Commons,
00:08:31.580
So for another Take 5 session, we'll stand on guard with David Creighton.
