In this episode of Stand On Guard, I talk about the new online news registry and how it threatens to destroy the ability of independent Canadian news broadcasters to produce and broadcast Canadian content online. I also talk about how the government is trying to censor the internet to ensure that people are not allowed to produce canadian content.

00:00:00.000 welcome back to another take five with stand on guard i'm your host david creighton and in a few
00:00:07.820 moments i'll be back to tell you how the online news registry is here so we are in a very
00:00:16.500 precarious position in this country we need political change but we also need to resolve to resist
00:00:30.000 well you just saw that subscribe button before i get into the guts of the program today i do want
00:00:38.720 to remind you that i am seeking your support and you can join at the five dollar level the low is
00:00:46.920 the five dollar of course we'd appreciate more but you can do that at david creighton.substack.com
00:00:52.720 that's my substack page that's where i put all of my audio files i'm doing with the george orwell book
00:00:57.800 for instance right now i've been reading that every day and it's the response has been phenomenal
00:01:03.880 i also do original columns and original work on on substack encourage you to have a look
00:01:09.580 and become a member subscribe and we also have the five dollar level at youtube of course you can
00:01:16.360 do more we always appreciate it and buy me a coffee another option at the five dollar level
00:01:23.320 or more but i've got to repeat this and i'm always being told you don't talk about the money enough
00:01:29.560 david nana yeah and i don't because it's not something i've ever had to do as a as a working
00:01:35.840 journalist as an air force officer i never really had to raise money but i've got to do it now because
00:01:40.640 i tell you and that's really what we're talking about today is that what can happen to people like
00:01:48.580 myself independent news broadcasters who are doing this and justin trudeau and his liberal government
00:01:54.580 are out to get us and while i'm reminding you that please hit that subscribe button hit that bell ring
00:02:01.240 the bell because if you do that we're beating trudeau's censorship and that's what we're talking
00:02:06.520 about today you remember bill c11 the online streaming act remember that and it was all about canadian
00:02:13.920 content and and how it was going to make oh we're going to ensure that we're going to read canadian
00:02:19.920 news the rest of our lives well the crtc you know canadian radio television telecommunications
00:02:25.600 commission now yes i remembered they came out on friday with a declaration of that they are going to
00:02:33.600 start producing an online news registry but don't worry folks if you're not making 10 million dollars a year
00:02:42.960 you won't have to register by the november 28th deadline however folks when you read when you read
00:02:54.320 the information it appears very tenuous that this threshold as they like to call it is in fact going to
00:03:04.160 stay very much of a threshold and i'm very concerned about what's going on here because i believe
00:03:11.240 we are seeing the beginning of a massive online registration on part of what the cretchen government
00:03:20.220 did with the long gun registry this is all about seeing who is out there broadcasting nasty things
00:03:29.120 about justin trudeau and the trudeau government the crtc is supposed to be a regulatory agency an arm's
00:03:36.280 length from the government but it's clearly pushing and promoting the liberal policies here it's creating
00:03:43.080 an online news registry and that that has not been lost by a lot of journalists and commentators around
00:03:49.740 the world and i encourage you to read my piece in the postmillennial today could be up by now and
00:03:57.340 we explain a bit more of it there but michael geist fantastic professor of law at the university of
00:04:04.280 ottawa is studying this problem comprehensively and he has put an excellent piece out in substactivity
00:04:10.760 it's michael geist i encourage you to read that have a look at what he's saying because this is all about
00:04:17.320 the survivability of independent news newscasters broadcasters exactly what i'm doing am i concerned
00:04:27.200 of course i'm concerned i don't come on here and tell you lies there's no misinformation disinformation
00:04:33.860 here i don't use clickbait so you'll come to the station by telling you every week that justin trudeau
00:04:40.320 is resigning or justin trudeau is out of here i say he should resign but i'm under no illusion he's
00:04:46.740 going to do that especially when he's getting no pressure to do so from the conservative opposition
00:04:52.060 they were still looking for an apology from trudeau not a resignation over this nazi waffen ss fiasco 0.86
00:05:00.100 which remains front and center and we're going to continue to talk about that this week there's
00:05:05.860 fresh information about that but in terms of internet censorship c11 is coming to pass exactly as we
00:05:13.640 predicted it is going to be a means a mechanism to control the internet to ensure that people are
00:05:21.100 not allowed to say what they want to say to produce the news they want to produce it's not just about
00:05:27.100 canadian content but if it was just about canadian content i wouldn't worry 90 of my material
00:05:32.440 is canadian content i'm not worried about that i cover the parliament hill i cover the federal
00:05:38.400 government largely sometimes provincial news sometimes municipal news sometimes u.s news
00:05:43.800 but 75 to 90 percent of the time it's federal canadian news so i'm not concerned about that i am
00:05:51.040 concerned about internet censorship because there's worse coming with bill a bill coming that hasn't
00:05:56.240 been named yet but pre in its previous incarnation and they tried to get it through the first time
00:06:02.320 it was called the online safety act and guess what that bill has just passed same bill same name
00:06:09.740 same effects same objectives which is to silence independent media by saying hey we don't like
00:06:17.520 your news we're going to call it mail information they're actually using that word in britain call it
00:06:22.880 misinformation call it disinformation call it whatever you want but it's what the government says
00:06:27.760 they're going to ban they're going to prosecute they're going to stop they're going to censor and
00:06:33.020 that's what this next bill is going to be about it's going to be about shutting down people who
00:06:39.720 disagree with the trudeau government and that's coming and we have got to stop it we've got to get
00:06:44.900 rid of trudeau before this bill comes into effect it's going to be more difficult to repeal than it is
00:06:51.000 simply to stop it before it happens and we need people to be educated about this we need people to know
00:06:57.060 what's happening they have had study groups for a year looking at this bill and how they're going
00:07:02.780 to sell it and they've already decided and i've mentioned this before but i gotta mention it again
00:07:07.740 they've already decided they will not define this information in this bill because that will make it too
00:07:14.220 hard to prosecute people so what will disinformation be whatever justin trudeau and his minions say it means
00:07:25.260 i am going to stick to a short broadcast today we're going to go back to parliament hill tomorrow
00:07:31.940 for question period the trial is on hold this week a freedom trial as i've been calling it freedom
00:07:39.200 freedom convoy leaders tamara leach and chris barber it's on hold till october the 11th we'll be back
00:07:46.240 there covering it and back there broadcasting after the trial but it's on hold for a week another week
00:07:52.520 till after thanksgiving and we're going to be covering a lot of different angles this week
00:07:57.540 and i'm going to hoping the broadcasters to put every day about these things so thanks for listening
00:08:02.200 today once again i need your support you can support this station and i appreciate it and those people
00:08:10.760 who have donated in a large way thank you thank you so much it's appreciated and it's appreciated
00:08:17.640 on the bottom of my heart because i tell you i couldn't do this without your support and we need
00:08:24.240 the station to grow not decline because we're going to tell justin trudeau where he can put his
00:08:29.360 censorship bills and that's our main thrust this fall is to maintain freedom of speech because if we
00:08:36.940 lose freedom of speech we lose our democracy we lose our canada we have very little left he's already
00:08:46.620 tried to destroy freedom of assembly and freedom of protest basically the same thing with the freedom
00:08:53.840 convoy and putting people on trial for doing absolutely nothing except peaceful protesting
00:09:00.240 that's all for me today i'll be back again tomorrow i'll see you here for question period
00:09:06.120 at around two o'clock don't miss it there will be some witty and insightful analysis thanks again for
00:09:13.140 listening today god bless you and let's save canada
00:09:16.260 you
