00:00:00.040 Hey everyone, welcome back to the Alberta Roundup. I'm your host, Rachel Emanuel.
00:00:04.520 We have some great stories for you guys today, unless you live under a rock.
00:00:09.180 You likely know that Tucker Carlson was in Alberta for two events this week.
00:00:13.880 I saw some of you guys there. I was privileged enough to be able to introduce the Premier at his event in Edmonton on Wednesday evening.
00:00:21.300 And of course, the left is melting down that he was here and at Alberta Premier Daniel Smith's involvement in the event.
00:00:27.520 And you guys might have heard that there was a shooter in Edmonton City Hall this week.
00:00:32.180 All that and more happening now on the Alberta Roundup.
00:00:44.260 Taking a look at our first story here, American journalist and pundit Tucker Carlson was in Alberta this week for two events, one in Calgary and one in Edmonton.
00:00:53.300 He was joined by Conrad Black, Jordan Peterson, and of course, Premier Smith.
00:00:58.720 Tucker Carlson warned that federal policies like safe supply and assisted suicide are destroying Canadian society, as is mass migration.
00:01:07.860 As he pointed to the long wait times at hospitals and the lack of housing we have in the country for everyone coming here and the people already here.
00:01:17.660 Take a listen to some of his comments now.
00:01:19.400 This is a destruction of you and your culture and your beliefs and your children and your future as a country.
00:01:28.200 Premier Smith was at both those events and at the event in Calgary, she promised to double Alberta's gas and oil production.
00:01:36.000 The Premier said Alberta will bring in new baseload natural gas power this year, which she said will stabilize the power grid, which we all know has been having some issues to say the least.
00:01:46.160 The Premier said quote, so I think we should just double down and decide we're going to double our oil and gas production.
00:01:53.700 Where else does America want to get its oil from?
00:01:56.060 Do you want to get it from Iran?
00:01:57.720 Do you want to get it from Venezuela?
00:01:59.600 Or do you want to get it from safe Canada?
00:02:02.020 I think that we can do a lot to make sure that the Americans know that we are here to provide energy security.
00:02:07.360 We are a great friend, great ally, great neighbor.
00:02:09.660 And we just need to get the political leadership to realize that we are a friend.
00:02:14.900 The Premier opened the panel by telling the audience and the media that just because she's on the panel doesn't mean she agrees with everything the other panelists have said.
00:02:24.800 The Premier was hammered for sitting side by side with the infamous Tucker Carlson at a media conference the next day.
00:02:30.580 Take a listen.
00:02:31.200 I do want to ask about your attendance at both of Tucker Carlson's events yesterday.
00:02:34.500 This is somebody who has been accused of defending white supremacy, spreading misinformation about the war in Ukraine, as well as making disparaging remarks about women.
00:02:42.020 So why did you believe that this is someone that you should be giving time and attention to?
00:02:46.020 Well, I take a wide range of media requests.
00:02:49.300 I've done, I've been told by my staff, 96 individual media events or interviews since I got re-elected, 24 press conferences.
00:02:57.300 And I don't require, I don't do a screening test to make sure that every person that interviews me matches 100% of what I believe.
00:03:05.860 And I don't expect that they're going to, that that would be an appropriate thing to do.
00:03:10.700 So I take a wide range of interviews from CBC all the way through to alternative media because my job is to get our message out about Alberta.
00:03:19.160 And I told everyone that I wanted to make sure that somebody who has a very loud voice in America knew that we were a partner in being able to provide energy security and energy affordability.
00:03:32.240 And I got that message out.
00:03:33.720 In one of the best moments of the event, Premier Smith told Tucker Carlson she's trying to get Federal Environment Minister Stephen Guibo fired and asked Carlson to put the minister in his crosshairs.
00:03:44.540 The next day, Guibo said he was targeted by the Tucker Carlson event and claimed he is the victim of political violence.
00:03:51.660 I mean, this goes beyond me and the fact that I was targeted last night at this event.
00:03:58.600 This increases political violence against everyone who runs for office in this country.
00:04:04.600 While Federal Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez claimed the event was an example of, quote, extreme right, end quote, infiltrating Canada.
00:04:12.440 Federal ministers weren't the only ones dismayed at Tucker Carlson's appearances in Alberta.
00:04:17.780 There was also many pundits who melted down online.
00:04:21.000 David Frum expressed his disappointment on X saying, quote,
00:04:24.100 The thing that's so sad is that I thought Canada had passed the point where Canadians had to make do with cancelled US programming as if it were fresh and new.
00:04:31.740 Former Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna also weighed in saying, quote, appalling.
00:04:36.980 Danielle Smith encouraging American right-wing rage farmer with a massive base to attack a Canadian politician.
00:04:44.000 Un-Canadian and dangerous.
00:04:45.940 And of course, Alberta NDP leader Rachel Notley, who announced last week that she's going to quit once a new leader is elected, also weighed in.
00:04:53.140 Notley said Danielle Smith, quote,
00:04:54.600 Sat across from a man moments after he promoted white supremacy and disparaged immigrants.
00:05:00.720 In a lengthy post on X, Notley also said, quote,
00:05:04.160 The Alberta NDP strongly condemns everything Tucker Carlson stands for, and we stand strong against such division and hate.
00:05:11.240 We will never stop fighting for what's just, and continue working tirelessly towards a future where every Albertan lives the genuine experience of their inherent value.
00:05:20.260 And finally, in news that will shock you all, it appears that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an appearance at the Tucker Carlson event, and he might even be a fan.
00:05:28.600 Let's roll that clip for you.
00:05:36.500 Of course, that was the Prime Minister at a women's hockey game the day after the federal court ruled that his invocation of the Emergencies Act to quell freedom protesters was unreasonable.
00:05:47.300 I've never seen anyone clap like that in my life.
00:05:50.440 I think we should all be asking some questions about what is going on with Justin Trudeau to make him act in such a bizarre manner.
00:05:57.220 Moving into our next story here, I guess I could label this the controversy of the week, but that label seems a little light for the material.
00:06:03.220 There was an active shooter at Edmonton City Hall this week.
00:06:06.860 Early Tuesday mornings, shots ran out and a Molotov cocktail was thrown inside the building, leading to its immediate evacuation.
00:06:15.000 Edmonton Police Services posted on X that they were investigating around 11 a.m.
00:06:20.060 And during the incident, Edmonton City Councilors were inside a scheduled meeting of the Emergency Advisory Committee,
00:06:26.420 and loud gunshots can be heard in a recording of the video.
00:06:29.720 We're going to play that for you now.
00:06:30.800 This is as well that we need to continue to work on.
00:06:33.080 Pretty frightening stuff.
00:06:48.820 The building was evacuated, as I said, and no one was harmed during the incident.
00:06:52.920 The man, the police allege is responsible for Tuesday's shooting, said in a video just before the incident that he was, quote,
00:07:00.560 just tired of seeing the tyranny and corruption taking over our society and our lives.
00:07:06.200 In a four-minute video posted to X, Rebel News journalist and good friend of the show, Adam Seuss, identifies a man as Bizani Savar.
00:07:14.280 In the video, the man takes aim at woke-ism, the housing crisis, multiculturalism, and what he describes as the genocide in Gaza.
00:07:22.420 In the video, he says, quote,
00:07:24.200 Brothers and sisters, before I do my mission, I want you all to know that I am not a psychopath.
00:07:29.060 I do not believe in bloodshed.
00:07:31.220 I am not one of these monsters that hurt children, that hurt innocents, and that promote wars all around the civilization of our society.
00:07:38.240 The video has not been officially linked to the alleged shooter, but the man in the video is wearing the same security uniform as the man discharging the gun in City Hall.
00:07:47.740 Edmonton police confirmed that Savar is facing seven charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm into a place,
00:07:54.280 knowingly possessing unauthorized firearm, using throwing explosive substances, arson to property,
00:08:01.040 possession of incendiary material, use of a firearm while committing offense, and careless use of a firearm.
00:08:06.860 Moving into what we're watching in the weeks to come, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, most commonly known as CSIS,
00:08:13.480 is warning Alberta that it has become a very attractive target for foreign entities to exert their influence due to the province's economy,
00:08:22.060 resources, and large number of ethnic communities.
00:08:25.780 CSIS shared its findings at a presentation in Edmonton.
00:08:29.160 There were several political parties present, as well as officials from Elections Alberta,
00:08:33.680 and those documents have been obtained through an access to information request filed by Postmedia.
00:08:38.880 The presentation said that foreign entities use, quote,
00:08:42.300 clandestine or coercive, end quote, activities to influence Canadian society to their benefit.
00:08:48.720 CSIS found that Alberta is the most sought-after place to enact these activities,
00:08:52.680 because of its, quote, resource-rich and high-tech economy.
00:08:56.100 The documents read, quote,
00:08:58.340 Canada and specifically Alberta are very attractive to many hostile foreign states,
00:09:03.360 due to our resource-rich and developed high-tech economy,
00:09:06.640 geo-strategic interest, particularly with respect to energy production and the Arctic,
00:09:10.980 and presence of large diaspora communities.
00:09:13.540 Alberta Premier Daniel Smith's press secretary acknowledged that the Alberta government is aware of foreign influence,
00:09:19.680 and particularly concerned about officials traveling abroad.
00:09:22.680 In a statement, the press secretary said, quote,
00:09:25.680 we take regular steps to interact with the appropriate agencies
00:09:28.720 to ensure our staff are educated on the tactics and methods used by foreign influencers.
00:09:34.740 And finally, moving into our weekly comment roundup, I'm sorry I missed it last week.
00:09:38.640 There was just so much material, and I know you guys like it when I keep my shows short,
00:09:43.300 so I just removed it from the episode last week, but I'm going to dive into some of your comments now.
00:09:47.760 User Rick Sabey says,
00:09:48.880 Alberta may never recover from the NDP ideologues.
00:09:51.780 The damage they caused almost cost people severely.
00:09:55.060 That is true, and I would argue with the high electricity bills that we're seeing,
00:09:59.320 it has in fact damaged people severely and will continue to do so
00:10:02.700 until maybe we see some more baseload power or something like that.
00:10:06.820 User JR said,
00:10:07.820 wow, that is fantastic news.
00:10:09.920 Rachel Emanuel is absolutely the best journalist in Canada right now.
00:10:13.080 That is such a generous comment.
00:10:14.440 I don't agree that I'm the best journalist in Canada,
00:10:16.500 especially right now while I haven't been doing too much as I'm on mat leave,
00:10:19.900 but I do have a lot of respect for my colleagues.
00:10:22.740 I just want to give a quick shout out to Andrew Lawton.
00:10:24.960 He's of course a fan favorite.
00:10:27.180 And Cosman, Georgia, he is doing the Daily Brief right now,
00:10:29.900 and honestly, he's one of the best researchers in Canada.
00:10:32.820 So definitely check out their work if you aren't already familiar with them.
00:10:36.180 And finally, moving into our last comment here,
00:10:38.740 user at mama bear and two cubs said,
00:10:41.460 great news, Rachel, looking forward to seeing your show twice a week.
00:10:44.320 And of course, that was just in response to the news
00:10:46.460 that my show is going to be going up to twice a week beginning in February.
00:10:50.180 For those of you who didn't see last week's episode,
00:10:52.600 we're going to be doing one episode midweek.
00:10:55.220 That will be an interview and then the regular show on Saturday.
00:10:58.740 So if there's any particular subjects you would like me to interview,
00:11:01.820 please let me know in the comments below
00:11:03.320 and I'll do my best to schedule them in in the coming weeks.
00:11:06.540 Okay, guys, that's all I have time for today.
00:11:08.360 Thank you so much for tuning in.
00:11:09.600 As always, if you're able to support our work,
00:11:11.420 you can do that over at donate.tnc.news.
00:11:14.180 Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
00:11:15.700 I'll see you guys next week.
00:11:17.300 God bless.
