00:00:00.000 Liberal candidate Mark Carney launched his campaign in Edmonton on Thursday by waging war against the free press.
00:00:07.880 I was denied access to the premises and asked to leave for simply attending and perhaps being guilty by association.
00:00:16.420 Alberta Premier Danielle Smith went to war against Canada's proposed defence against the tariffs,
00:00:21.920 along with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's and the other premiers' response to them.
00:00:26.160 The Alberta government will also implement a policy it initially passed through legislation in May,
00:00:31.860 a program which will have 24-7 ankle bracelet monitoring with GPS for repeat offenders out on bail
00:00:38.000 to address the Liberal NDP's catch-and-release policy.
00:00:41.660 All of this and more on this week's episode of the Alberta Roundup.
00:00:44.920 I'm your host, Isaac Lamoureux, and it's always a pleasure to be here with you.
00:00:56.160 I know you're dying to hear about the Carney event, so I'll take you through my experience of what happened now.
00:01:04.860 So as some of you may know, Mark Carney announced his leadership campaign on Thursday in Edmonton,
00:01:09.940 and the campaign kicked off at 12.30pm at Laurier Heights Community League.
00:01:14.480 I was about five minutes late because I was recording another show right before the event,
00:01:19.020 and when I arrived, there was hardly parking within a few blocks of the Community League.
00:01:23.020 And as I walked closer, I saw a line of at least like 100 people, so I thought to myself,
00:01:27.860 wow, a lot of people are here to support Carney.
00:01:31.040 I had previously emailed the event organizers at 8am that morning to request media access, but received no reply.
00:01:38.880 So hoping to figure out a way to skip the line as media,
00:01:42.040 I tried to find something that would suggest the possibility,
00:01:45.520 but there seemed to be no such mechanism and the doors weren't even open.
00:01:48.880 So eventually, Liberal MP George Chahal came out to address the line,
00:01:54.360 and he said, sorry for the delay, but we're just waiting for the police to come,
00:01:58.860 and that things would get handled and get moving once they arrived.
00:02:01.900 So I thought it was compelling that the police would need to be at the event for it to proceed,
00:02:06.960 but perhaps this was standard practice at a federal event of the sort.
00:02:11.140 A minute or two later, I saw the counter-signals Kian Bextie being escorted out by the police.
00:02:18.620 With him was independent journalist Mocha Bezergin,
00:02:21.960 but he was recording him, so I wasn't sure if he was being escorted out as well
00:02:25.380 or just documenting what was happening.
00:02:27.740 And the police escort created a cosm, and nobody was near the two journalists,
00:02:32.660 except me, of course.
00:02:33.520 As they got into their car, I crept closer, hoping to ask them what happened,
00:02:37.840 but before I had the chance, the police started questioning me.
00:02:40.380 I was just standing there.
00:02:42.220 They asked me if I was with them, and they asked me all these other questions.
00:02:44.880 I told them I wasn't with them.
00:02:46.660 I gave them my name, and I told them who I worked for, which was, of course, True North.
00:02:50.540 And then the policewoman who was questioning me, she was clearly messaging the organizer,
00:02:55.960 and a minute or two later, she came up to me, and she said,
00:02:58.820 you're not welcome here, and you need to leave.
00:03:00.780 I asked why.
00:03:01.460 I tried to reason with her, and I was nothing but friendly to her,
00:03:04.300 but she wouldn't tell me much.
00:03:05.820 She just said that the organizers of the event did not want me there,
00:03:09.000 and that it was a private event, so I needed to leave.
00:03:11.740 She kept repeating that.
00:03:12.540 This is a private event.
00:03:13.380 You can't be here.
00:03:14.720 Okay.
00:03:15.620 Western Standard Journalist James Snell was also denied access to the event.
00:03:19.860 Keen Bextie, he took various videos of the event,
00:03:22.060 and in the following clip, you'll actually see the two policemen that I spoke with as well.
00:03:26.100 Well, here it is.
00:03:26.720 Do you guys want to see the police?
00:03:29.140 Of course.
00:03:29.640 Have you been advised if you have to leave?
00:03:31.660 By nobody who's identifying themselves.
00:03:33.440 They're just random.
00:03:34.160 A random dude came up and said that this fellow is well.
00:03:38.760 If we have to leave, I'm happy to leave,
00:03:40.840 but nobody from whoever's book this has told us that they're actually an authority figure,
00:03:46.140 just people that I think don't like us, so.
00:03:48.740 Okay.
00:03:49.020 You are trespassing, so we can leave the property.
00:03:50.960 Do you want to come up this way so you don't walk in front of all of them?
00:03:55.160 I don't.
00:03:55.680 Sure.
00:03:56.380 Yeah.
00:03:56.620 Okay.
00:03:57.280 Happy to...
00:03:57.840 Yep.
00:03:59.540 Can I stay with us?
00:04:00.580 Okay.
00:04:01.360 What's your position in the campaign?
00:04:02.980 No, no, no.
00:04:03.300 Why am I...
00:04:04.260 Sorry, they're going to come to you.
00:04:06.540 Yeah.
00:04:07.340 Come this way.
00:04:09.320 All right, George.
00:04:12.060 Have you stolen anything lately?
00:04:13.160 Edmund.
00:04:13.760 Yeah.
00:04:16.520 No.
00:04:19.260 No.
00:04:19.460 Back this day?
00:04:22.500 Okay, sorry, we're actually going to go with this.
00:04:23.640 Oh.
00:04:26.540 This way, this way, sir.
00:04:27.860 This way.
00:04:29.180 This is the weirdest I've ever been treated.
00:04:34.200 If you want to keep filming, you're welcome to,
00:04:35.720 but you're going to have to be off the community property.
00:04:37.240 We'll have to pick up our car, and is that okay?
00:04:39.140 Where is it?
00:04:39.600 It's just in the parking lot.
00:04:41.900 We can drive, but thank you.
00:04:42.880 I don't know about...
00:04:43.560 Oh, sure, yeah.
00:04:44.400 So the entire community center has trespassed us,
00:04:49.580 or was it the campaign?
00:04:50.820 It's the private event.
00:04:51.680 Yeah, the private event.
00:04:52.640 Okay, but they haven't booked this, like, playground.
00:04:55.300 No, but it is part of the property,
00:04:56.760 so we're going to get you to see off the property.
00:04:59.600 Okay.
00:05:01.860 You're free to film from there, but...
00:05:03.260 Sure, yeah.
00:05:04.160 Well, thanks for being so professional about this.
00:05:05.920 It's strange treatment from someone
00:05:08.680 who wants to be the prime minister of this country.
00:05:13.340 And where's your...
00:05:14.020 Just right up ahead here.
00:05:18.460 And here's another video of Snell
00:05:20.060 showcasing some journalism students
00:05:22.020 also not getting let in.
00:05:23.200 Can you believe it?
00:05:24.100 I mean, I assume the journalism students
00:05:25.860 aren't legacy media enough for Carney.
00:05:28.060 I mean, this is crazy stuff.
00:05:29.860 Just watch this here.
00:05:31.020 So now we have journalism students
00:05:32.980 trying to get in.
00:05:34.160 Great young people
00:05:35.200 looking to make a start in media.
00:05:38.320 And it appears they are being restricted.
00:05:41.240 So hopefully they will be allowed in,
00:05:43.540 these great young people.
00:05:50.820 So let me know what you guys think
00:05:52.240 of Carney launching his campaign
00:05:53.820 by banning independent media
00:05:55.600 from even attending.
00:05:56.860 I mean, I can hardly even get through the sentence.
00:05:58.740 It's such a ridiculous stance.
00:06:01.140 I never would have thought
00:06:01.960 that waging war on free press
00:06:03.800 and independent media
00:06:04.860 would be a way to kickstart your campaign.
00:06:07.120 And also, do you think anything negative
00:06:09.080 will result of this?
00:06:10.260 Or is this just business as usual
00:06:12.360 for the liberals?
00:06:13.580 Yeah, that was fun.
00:06:14.380 I wish we could start every episode
00:06:15.760 with story time.
00:06:17.320 But hopping into the news
00:06:18.360 from Alberta this week,
00:06:19.440 as you can imagine,
00:06:20.540 President-elect Donald Trump's tariffs
00:06:22.380 have dominated the headlines.
00:06:24.380 And Smith has taken a surprising stance
00:06:26.480 against not only the tariffs,
00:06:27.800 but Trudeau and even the other premiers.
00:06:30.000 So following her meeting
00:06:30.960 with President-elect Donald Trump
00:06:32.240 at Mar-a-Lago,
00:06:33.460 which was thanks to an invite
00:06:34.540 from Shark Tank star
00:06:35.640 and her recent business partner,
00:06:37.260 Kevin O'Leary,
00:06:38.520 Alberta Premier Danielle Smith
00:06:39.880 came back with the slightly surprising news
00:06:42.220 that the proposed tariffs were imminent.
00:06:44.480 I honestly thought Smith
00:06:45.460 would have returned
00:06:46.020 from her meeting with Trump
00:06:46.960 with better news,
00:06:47.780 but less surprisingly,
00:06:49.440 she said that Canada
00:06:50.380 would have to leverage
00:06:51.260 its energy muscle
00:06:52.280 to avoid the tariffs
00:06:53.720 or to deal with them
00:06:54.880 once they're in place.
00:06:56.040 Smith said that
00:06:56.600 because of Trudeau's
00:06:57.500 announced resignation,
00:06:58.720 she's actually been speaking
00:06:59.780 with U.S. administration independently.
00:07:02.580 She reiterated
00:07:03.280 that this was the very reason
00:07:04.540 she was calling
00:07:05.260 for an immediate election.
00:07:06.920 Then Foreign Affairs Minister
00:07:08.140 Melanie Jolie said that,
00:07:09.960 everything's on the table
00:07:11.660 when asked about
00:07:12.620 cutting off energy supply
00:07:13.880 to the United States.
00:07:15.300 Smith said a few things
00:07:16.280 in response to this.
00:07:17.140 Firstly,
00:07:17.540 that oil and gas
00:07:18.260 is under provincial jurisdiction
00:07:19.660 and this would not be happening.
00:07:21.840 She also suggested
00:07:22.780 that Jolie pick up a map
00:07:24.320 to look at where
00:07:25.180 the Enbridge Line 5 travels.
00:07:26.940 If supply to the United States
00:07:28.240 were cut off,
00:07:29.220 so too would supply
00:07:30.600 to Ontario and Quebec.
00:07:32.080 Smith said,
00:07:32.620 you should never,
00:07:34.480 ever threaten something
00:07:35.660 you can't do.
00:07:37.260 She added,
00:07:38.260 there's no point
00:07:39.060 in making empty threats
00:07:40.260 that cannot be executed on
00:07:41.640 and we cannot do anything
00:07:43.080 that harms Canadians
00:07:44.060 in any substantial way.
00:07:46.480 Smith also said
00:07:47.300 she does not expect Alberta
00:07:48.680 to be granted
00:07:49.300 any tariff exemptions
00:07:50.740 despite being
00:07:51.540 an energy exporting behemoth.
00:07:53.840 Smith will be attending
00:07:54.660 Trump's inauguration
00:07:55.620 in person on January 20th
00:07:57.680 and on the opposite end
00:07:58.960 of the spectrum,
00:07:59.660 Trudeau is having
00:08:00.620 his last cabinet retreat
00:08:02.180 in Quebec
00:08:02.760 on the same day
00:08:03.680 Trump is sworn in.
00:08:05.260 So it gets even more surprising
00:08:06.740 with this next bit about Smith
00:08:08.500 and I mean,
00:08:09.120 this one took me
00:08:09.700 by complete shock.
00:08:11.460 So a few days after
00:08:12.360 the previously mentioned statements,
00:08:14.040 Trudeau and the premiers
00:08:14.800 met on Wednesday.
00:08:16.660 Smith was attending
00:08:17.300 the conference virtually
00:08:18.260 and she did not attend
00:08:19.840 the closing press conference.
00:08:22.220 Following the conference,
00:08:23.260 all of the premiers
00:08:24.080 and the prime minister
00:08:25.140 released a joint statement
00:08:26.320 of the Canada-United States
00:08:28.060 relationship.
00:08:28.920 Well, not exactly all of them.
00:08:30.920 At the bottom of the statement,
00:08:32.160 it reads,
00:08:32.840 quote,
00:08:33.460 the government of Alberta
00:08:34.440 did not approve
00:08:35.580 the joint statement
00:08:36.400 between the government of Canada
00:08:37.720 and the Council of the Federation.
00:08:39.720 I mean, wow.
00:08:40.540 And in case you've forgotten,
00:08:41.500 the Council of the Federation
00:08:42.380 is Canada's premiers.
00:08:43.800 So this means that
00:08:44.700 Smith opposed
00:08:45.560 all of the premiers
00:08:46.680 and the prime minister.
00:08:48.160 Their joint statement
00:08:48.860 had various quotes
00:08:49.920 that touched on
00:08:50.780 several things
00:08:51.820 like the border issues
00:08:53.000 and Canada reaching
00:08:53.860 its 2% NATO spending target
00:08:55.940 as soon as possible,
00:08:56.740 but it didn't say anything
00:08:57.900 really that shocking
00:08:59.400 that Smith would have
00:09:00.740 to oppose it.
00:09:01.640 So that was really surprising.
00:09:03.280 But she did go on
00:09:04.140 to release her own statement.
00:09:05.960 She said, quote,
00:09:07.120 Federal government officials
00:09:08.240 continue to publicly
00:09:09.540 and privately
00:09:10.440 float the idea
00:09:11.500 of cutting off
00:09:12.240 energy supply to the U.S.
00:09:14.300 and imposing export tariffs
00:09:15.740 on Alberta energy
00:09:16.740 and other products
00:09:17.580 to the United States.
00:09:18.960 Until these threats cease,
00:09:20.740 Alberta will not be able
00:09:21.920 to fully support
00:09:22.780 the federal government's plan
00:09:24.000 in dealing with
00:09:24.920 the threatened tariffs.
00:09:26.040 Smith said that
00:09:27.260 Alberta will not agree
00:09:28.380 to export tariffs
00:09:29.200 on energy or any product
00:09:30.840 and will not support
00:09:32.080 banning these products.
00:09:34.060 She said she would do
00:09:34.960 anything in her power
00:09:36.140 to protect Albertans
00:09:37.200 from such destructive
00:09:38.360 federal policies.
00:09:40.260 She added that
00:09:40.840 the whole country
00:09:41.700 should use the threat
00:09:42.620 as an opportunity
00:09:43.480 to fix Canada's,
00:09:45.240 quote,
00:09:45.520 misguided direction
00:09:46.780 and start supporting
00:09:48.180 infrastructure projects
00:09:49.520 that support oil and gas.
00:09:51.340 She concluded by saying,
00:09:52.640 quote,
00:09:52.880 I will be traveling
00:09:53.920 to Washington, D.C.
00:09:55.120 this week
00:09:55.540 for the inauguration
00:09:56.500 and will be returning
00:09:57.800 to the United States
00:09:58.640 several times
00:09:59.560 over the coming months
00:10:00.440 to meet with U.S. lawmakers
00:10:01.680 and officials
00:10:02.520 to continue to make the case
00:10:04.060 against the imposition
00:10:05.200 of tariffs
00:10:05.780 on Canadian products
00:10:07.320 and to strengthen
00:10:08.160 and grow the trading
00:10:09.140 relationship
00:10:09.640 between our two great
00:10:10.800 and independent nations.
00:10:12.620 Let me know in the comments
00:10:13.640 what you think
00:10:14.260 about Smith standing up
00:10:15.620 not only to Trudeau
00:10:16.640 but now against
00:10:17.440 all the other premiers.
00:10:19.020 So sticking with provincial news,
00:10:20.600 the Alberta government
00:10:21.300 has taken its next step
00:10:22.660 in fighting Canada's
00:10:23.680 catch-and-release bail system
00:10:25.020 that has let high-risk
00:10:26.200 and repeat offenders
00:10:27.140 roam free.
00:10:28.620 This is by implementing
00:10:29.480 the Provincial Ankle Bracelet
00:10:30.920 Electronic Monitoring Program
00:10:32.600 which came on Wednesday.
00:10:34.680 The program will allow
00:10:35.680 offenders and accused
00:10:36.820 who are deemed
00:10:37.320 a public safety risk
00:10:38.600 to be subject to court-ordered
00:10:40.060 24-7 electronic monitoring
00:10:42.540 by Alberta Correctional Services.
00:10:44.800 Alberta Public Safety Minister
00:10:46.240 Mike Ellis said,
00:10:47.500 quote,
00:10:47.600 Ottawa's Bill C-75
00:10:49.440 has broken the bail system.
00:10:51.660 High-risk offenders
00:10:52.440 pose a significant risk
00:10:53.820 to public safety
00:10:54.640 and require an enhanced
00:10:55.900 supervision in the community.
00:10:57.920 He added,
00:10:58.540 quote,
00:10:59.060 Ankle Bracelet Electronic
00:11:00.400 Monitoring
00:11:01.040 is another tool
00:11:01.940 in the toolbox
00:11:02.660 for courts to consider
00:11:03.920 when determining
00:11:04.620 sentencing or bail conditions,
00:11:06.840 helping us combat
00:11:07.740 rising crime
00:11:08.540 and create safer
00:11:09.580 Alberta communities.
00:11:11.280 You might remember
00:11:11.940 that Canada's provincial
00:11:12.920 and territorial premiers
00:11:14.300 previously called
00:11:15.360 on the federal government
00:11:16.280 to reform the bail system
00:11:17.740 following various murders
00:11:19.060 by those out on bail.
00:11:20.560 Then,
00:11:21.060 the federal government
00:11:21.800 shifted the blame
00:11:22.620 to the provinces
00:11:23.380 saying it was up to them
00:11:25.060 to fix the crime issues
00:11:26.240 caused by the
00:11:26.980 catch-and-release
00:11:27.600 bail system.
00:11:28.780 The Alberta government
00:11:29.540 said ankle bracelet monitoring
00:11:31.180 will help secure
00:11:32.100 offender-restricted areas
00:11:33.840 such as
00:11:34.600 victims' residences,
00:11:36.500 places of employment
00:11:37.460 and other areas
00:11:38.460 deemed off-limits
00:11:39.560 by an accused
00:11:40.420 bail-release conditions.
00:11:42.440 The previous system
00:11:43.400 saw probation officers
00:11:44.540 monitor high-risk individuals
00:11:46.060 only during regular
00:11:47.220 business hours
00:11:47.900 and did not include
00:11:49.340 GPS monitoring.
00:11:51.160 Alberta's Justice Minister
00:11:52.440 Mickey Amory
00:11:53.140 repeated the call
00:11:54.060 for bail reform.
00:11:55.240 He said,
00:11:55.840 quote,
00:11:56.340 Alberta's government
00:11:57.140 continues to call
00:11:58.160 for federal bail
00:11:59.000 and sentencing reform
00:12:00.140 to stop violent criminals
00:12:01.280 from re-entering
00:12:02.040 our communities.
00:12:03.500 The Alberta government
00:12:04.280 allocated $2.8 million
00:12:05.980 to cover the implementation
00:12:07.480 cost for the 2024-25
00:12:09.540 fiscal year.
00:12:10.720 Alberta previously
00:12:11.740 released a provincial
00:12:12.560 police force plan
00:12:13.800 and stricter penalties
00:12:14.780 for repeat offenders.
00:12:16.520 Bill 11,
00:12:17.200 which was part
00:12:17.740 of the previous announcement,
00:12:18.820 provides legislative amendments
00:12:20.240 to establish
00:12:21.400 the ankle monitoring program
00:12:22.500 for violent
00:12:23.260 and sexual offenders
00:12:24.680 out on bail.
00:12:25.800 The ankle bracelet
00:12:26.560 monitoring program
00:12:27.580 is part of the
00:12:28.440 Alberta United
00:12:29.220 Conservative Party's
00:12:30.440 Safe Streets Action Plan.
00:12:32.880 The plan was put forward
00:12:33.780 in their 2023 election campaign
00:12:35.540 and has various measures
00:12:36.700 to increase public safety.
00:12:38.620 So that wraps up
00:12:39.340 our stories for this week.
00:12:40.500 I'm really looking forward
00:12:41.540 to the comments this week
00:12:42.640 on the questions
00:12:43.600 that I've raised,
00:12:44.340 but bringing it back
00:12:45.040 to last week's comments,
00:12:46.440 let's hop in
00:12:47.100 to the comment roundup.
00:12:48.440 The first comment
00:12:49.260 I'll highlight
00:12:49.680 from last week
00:12:50.320 comes from
00:12:50.820 at Bumsy58
00:12:52.120 who said,
00:12:53.280 advances in technology
00:12:54.600 should be the primary focus.
00:12:56.520 In the meantime,
00:12:57.460 hybrids are a good path.
00:12:58.960 Fully electric cars
00:12:59.840 are not suitable
00:13:00.620 for Canadian geography
00:13:01.780 and climate.
00:13:02.920 Or for that matter,
00:13:03.960 the electrical grid
00:13:04.900 cannot sustain
00:13:05.760 that surge
00:13:06.360 in power usage.
00:13:07.640 Yeah, I decided
00:13:08.200 to highlight this
00:13:08.860 because of how closely
00:13:09.840 it aligns
00:13:10.400 with what Energy Minister
00:13:11.580 Brian Jeans said
00:13:12.420 when I interviewed him.
00:13:13.420 Essentially,
00:13:13.980 he said that the Liberals
00:13:14.920 are trying to supersede
00:13:16.160 technology with emissions
00:13:17.420 reduction goals
00:13:18.240 that will obliterate
00:13:19.660 Canada's economy
00:13:20.520 and job market.
00:13:21.560 Whereas if they were
00:13:22.240 a bit more patient,
00:13:23.380 technology would catch up
00:13:24.420 and emissions reduction
00:13:25.300 would follow suit.
00:13:27.140 And time is not
00:13:28.380 of the essence.
00:13:29.060 We've seen research
00:13:29.920 showing that carbon taxes
00:13:31.760 and emissions reductions
00:13:32.700 tactics of the like
00:13:33.900 do little to nothing
00:13:34.980 to reduce emissions
00:13:35.960 and in Canada's case,
00:13:37.240 even increase emissions.
00:13:39.140 On top of that,
00:13:41.260 Canada's impact
00:13:42.000 on global emissions
00:13:42.780 is negligible at best
00:13:44.260 and in reality,
00:13:45.460 we could have more
00:13:46.120 of an effect
00:13:46.700 by being pro-energy
00:13:47.880 and supplying
00:13:48.920 our responsible
00:13:49.680 clean energy
00:13:50.540 over that of dictatorships
00:13:52.940 from their coal plants.
00:13:54.400 The next comment
00:13:55.140 comes from
00:13:55.620 at Thomas Herman 12
00:13:56.900 who said,
00:13:57.920 Alberta will be
00:13:58.900 both stronger
00:13:59.740 and have greater freedom
00:14:01.020 as a US state.
00:14:02.260 We would have to start
00:14:03.160 as a territory
00:14:03.900 but statehood
00:14:04.600 would be achieved swiftly.
00:14:06.460 The American Constitution
00:14:07.480 is better than the Canadian one
00:14:09.360 by a country mile.
00:14:10.580 Alberta 51.
00:14:11.760 Yeah, Thomas,
00:14:12.360 so I decided to highlight
00:14:13.260 your comment
00:14:13.780 but it could have been
00:14:14.820 any number of comments
00:14:16.160 from the last video
00:14:17.100 of people suggesting
00:14:18.020 that Alberta separate
00:14:19.140 from Canada
00:14:19.720 and become the 51st state
00:14:21.400 to bolster our economy,
00:14:23.000 security,
00:14:23.680 and other things.
00:14:24.680 I wonder what this
00:14:25.360 would result in
00:14:26.080 for Albertans
00:14:26.740 and how negatively
00:14:27.660 the rest of the country
00:14:29.080 would be affected
00:14:29.960 without Alberta's
00:14:30.840 oil and economy.
00:14:32.400 In fact,
00:14:32.860 I thought this was
00:14:33.460 a widespread belief
00:14:34.480 in Alberta
00:14:35.020 but a recent poll
00:14:36.120 suggested otherwise.
00:14:37.660 So a recent poll
00:14:38.380 conducted by
00:14:39.000 the Angus Reid Institute
00:14:40.080 highlighted that
00:14:40.760 90% of Canadians
00:14:42.200 do not want to become
00:14:43.360 the 51st state.
00:14:45.080 And okay,
00:14:45.480 that's a pretty high number
00:14:46.240 but I thought Alberta
00:14:47.240 would be an anomaly.
00:14:48.720 And it was
00:14:49.360 but not to the extent
00:14:50.800 I had imagined.
00:14:52.000 Alberta favored
00:14:52.940 separation the most
00:14:54.700 but still
00:14:55.520 only 18% of Albertans
00:14:57.460 said that they would
00:14:58.100 vote for Canada
00:14:58.880 to become the 51st state
00:15:00.380 in a referendum.
00:15:01.540 This was the most
00:15:02.300 among any province
00:15:03.140 but it was much lower
00:15:04.260 than I expected.
00:15:05.680 Let me know
00:15:06.280 what you think.
00:15:07.040 The last comment
00:15:07.760 comes from
00:15:08.180 Vinnie379L4
00:15:10.420 who said
00:15:10.980 quote,
00:15:11.600 Never again
00:15:12.260 with NDP
00:15:12.900 in Alberta.
00:15:14.000 Never forget
00:15:14.720 what Notley did
00:15:15.720 to this province.
00:15:17.360 Yeah,
00:15:17.680 this is a sentiment
00:15:18.400 I've highlighted before
00:15:19.440 but something I think
00:15:20.500 Albertans who lived here
00:15:22.220 during the NDP's reign
00:15:23.220 will never forget.
00:15:24.560 That being
00:15:24.860 the economic ruin
00:15:25.900 that the Alberta NDP
00:15:27.060 put the province in
00:15:28.220 and how much poorer
00:15:29.440 everyone was
00:15:30.340 during their tenure
00:15:31.180 and thereafter.
00:15:32.000 However,
00:15:32.820 as I've previously
00:15:33.600 mentioned with immigration
00:15:34.920 there are a lot
00:15:35.900 of new Albertans
00:15:36.660 who may not have
00:15:37.280 lived here
00:15:37.740 during the NDP's rule
00:15:39.080 and so they may not
00:15:39.900 have the same
00:15:40.500 strong held opinions
00:15:41.460 as so many
00:15:42.240 Albertans do.
00:15:43.460 Before Rachel Notley
00:15:44.340 took office in 2015
00:15:45.660 conservatives in Alberta
00:15:47.180 had held office
00:15:47.980 for 44 years straight.
00:15:50.460 Given how poorly
00:15:51.260 the NDP's recent reign
00:15:52.580 was in Alberta
00:15:53.500 and how vehemently
00:15:54.960 rural Alberta
00:15:55.740 is against the Alberta NDP
00:15:57.280 I was meaning
00:15:58.020 to ask you guys
00:15:58.680 if you think
00:15:59.620 there will be another
00:16:00.560 multi-decade rule
00:16:01.860 of conservatives
00:16:02.500 in Alberta
00:16:03.440 or what will end up
00:16:05.140 knocking them out
00:16:05.840 of office eventually
00:16:06.780 if anything.
00:16:07.580 That wraps up
00:16:08.160 our comment roundup
00:16:08.960 and this week's show.
00:16:10.260 My name's Isaac Lamoureux
00:16:11.420 your host of the
00:16:12.480 Alberta Roundup.
00:16:13.700 Have a great weekend
00:16:14.660 thank you and God bless
00:16:15.900 may Alberta prosper
00:16:16.980 strong and free.
00:16:27.280 thank you and God bless
